Clark Hulings Approved by Permissions

UKexpat - finally permissions got to us and approved our grant for Clark Hulings. I wanted to find out how to do citations and add a picture, I've been trying but failing.

Our facts are true, they're drawn from family archives, not many books have been written about this artist, just one, and two supporting books. More are in the works. Not sure how to go about this.

Thanks --AGWriterly (talk) 22:59, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

FYI: A change was made in how the help link is attached, so if you wanted to re-add {{sp-contributions-footer}} to your user-page, the help link should no longer show in the upper right. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:28, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I was searching for you

Few guys out here in India told me they were informed by you to help them repost the article. Thank you for doing so. Since I deleted my user page I could not find you. But through my talk history I could find your page. Whether that is publised or not I am sending you my official youtube link. http://nl.youtube.com/user/jayenvarma The new videos added are from a Traditional Classical FESTIVAL in INDIA. I am so confident about my Percussive bass speed. Thats why I boldly post those videos and speak so loudly, like "SELF PROMO".. ha ha . Now every fast or fastest bassists in the world know this...I am not the Fastest Bassist, But I am the Fastest slap Bassist. This is the truth. See you someday somewhere during any live performances Regards--Jayenvarma (talk) 12:25, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Its a bit hard

I looked at the article. Looks good, but I do not know how they are going to edit as per the rules, which is really complicated. I got mail from one of the guys who created it. But I told them to avoid doing edit without knowing the rules, because I had more than enough from this..LOL. Many people think that its easy to edit. At the same time there are many articles& biographies which are accepted without any citations. I have more refences than such people. 4to40.com has official right to publish World Records of RHR, GWR, Limca Book. etc.... I had quoted a refence of them also. but in vain... News about my record had been in BBC, CNN,many national and international TV and radios. Also in news papers...But you need proof...??? . So I suppose, its better you do the editing and show them how it is... Or will forget it..I also told them to give it up???????,ha ha . Regards--Jayenvarma (talk) 07:51, 10 October 2008 (UTC)

Hi,

Thanks for all the info and the kind welcome. I hope I'll get chance to add some good stuff!

I'm having a bit of an issue with an article I've tried to add a link to, it seems to be getting removed. Any idea why? It's on the article about Learning Management System

Many thanks again

No Jacket Required

Hello there! I've never really nominated an article for Peer Review before, so bear with me. I have just recently nominated the article, No Jacket Required for Peer Review. I was a major force in turning it into the bare bones article it once was, to the Good Article that it is at the time of this message. I would love to improve it and make it a Featured Article, but I stink at these kinds of things, and usually go in a totally wrong direction! I looked at the Peer Review volunteer's page, and thought that you'd be a great person to look the article over, and see if any improvements are necessary. The link to the peer review is here. I would appreciate any sort of input, but if you are too busy, I certainly understand. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you at the peer review! CarpetCrawler (talk) 01:21, 7 October 2008 (UTC)

That's OK, thanks for the work you've done so far! I'll take some stress off of your workload and have someone else finish the Copyedit. :) CarpetCrawler (talk) 23:37, 11 October 2008 (UTC)

Possible replacement page for "oxymoron"

I've written a replacement page for "oxymoron". It's at the end of Talk:Oxymoron. Can you or someone please have a look?

I'm still working on it, but even in its present state it's a big improvement, imho.

i believe that your action to delete eleftherios arelis is unacceptable because all famous writers or journalists have an advertising material in their articles with personal webpages or there are many greek journalists that do not fullfill the criteria of wikipedia but there are articles of them —Preceding unsigned comment added by 195.134.96.195 (talk) 09:56, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for Greeting

Hello Ukexpat

Thank you for your note, most welcome

Apologies for delay in response - a combination of not looking at my 'Contributions' page for some time (so not noticing it) plus some downtime owing to decorating!! and a PC fault needing sorting by my repairer fellow

I certainly do intend to stick around and graduate to initiating pages

P.S. Just noticed that an addition I made to baseball legend Christy Mathewson has disappeared. I added to 'Christy in popular culture' but that small sub-section has gone

It used to say He is the subject of an Off-Broadway one-man show starring Eddie Frierson. He is the subject of Eric Rolfe Greenberg's baseball novel "The Celebrant". Mathewson is mentioned in the poem "Lineup for Yesterday" by Ogden Nash:

Lineup for Yesterday M is for Matty, Who carried a charm In the form of an extra brain in his arm. — Ogden Nash, Sport magazine (January 1949)[6]

Singer/pianist/songwriter Dave Frishberg's song "Matty" is a sentimental tribute to Christy. The song may be found on Frishberg's albums, Quality Time, Let's Eat Home plus a live version on Retromania: At the Jazz Bakery, which contains other baseball related songs). Frishberg's liner notes and occasional commentary to his audience help explain the background to many of these songs.

That last para was mine. Can you please help me to understand who deleted it all - and why. Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by Colinkilgour (talkcontribs) 17:19, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

Cary The Label Guy

Hello, back in July i wrote a article on Cary The Label Guy, which you helped me keep from being deleted. I really appreciated the help. Now, after many months with no problems and no deletions, i have some people that are challenging the article and want it deleted, after i worked very hard with you and other Mods to keep it up. Can you please help me make my case to them? I am still not really versed in WP, so i am having a hard time making my case. They are being rude and non-helpful along with not answering any of my questions about how to make the article better, to keep it from being deleted. Your help would be greatly appreciated, again! --Teamxrsx (talk) 01:30, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Please have a look

We saw the communication in JV's user page. We contacted him and after that he insisted his staff not to write or edit anything from that user page illegaly. And it will never happen. Sorry for that. He has no time to write all these. He is always doing concerts and doing practice. His only word is "PRACTICE". Pl google for him and you can see many people and organisations have rated him among top 20 Bassists in the World. How can they approve him among the best players, if he is not notable. Another surprise!!!..when other Professional Bass players use Bass Guitar worth USD 2000 to 4000 and above, he uses a Bass Guitar worth just USD 150 with two good pick ups purchased for USD 150 or 200. This is unbelieavable. You can see from his videos that he is a very calm and cool person. You can not expect any aggressive words from him. He appreciates the attitude of Wikipedia editors. He loves to have his article in WP. But he never hates anyone if he is rejected. . Hope you will just see the draft article and approve it after making whatever modifications you can. Hoping that WP will approve atleast few more Indian Guitarists other than the present 8 persons!!!!!!!!!! Thank YOU all.----Fansfans123 (talk) 06:06, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

I see from one of your userboxes that you're an administrator hopeful. I've seen and acted on many of your reports at WP:UAA, WP:AIV and CAT:CSD and you seem to do great work in those areas. Ancient Persian problems

You recently contributed to an AfD discussion on an article about ancient Persian history. I have been reviewing the contributions of the editors who have been involved in these and other related articles, and have found a considerable number of issues - bad writing, original research, lack of sourcing or citations, and POV problems. I have posted the results of my review at User:ChrisO/Ancient Persian problems (it's a work in progress, as I'm still going through the contributions). Please feel free to add to it and leave any comments at User talk:ChrisO/Ancient Persian problems. I would be interested in any feedback that you might have. Thanks in advance. -- ChrisO (talk) 00:08, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Quotations in an encyclopedia

I have no idea what you think wikipedia is but quotations particularly those which are used to described an individual are perfectly acceptable in wikipedia. Frequently in the death section of many people there are quotes from family or friends to describe an untimely death Paul Hunter, Steve Irwin etc etc. We have featured articles on wikipedia with many such quotations in. Wikipedia is not an obituary, but as long as there aren't too many of them and they reveal something about that person in dying I don't see a problem. Removing my work without discussing looks like vandalism to me. The Michael Crichton article is extremely poorly structured anyway and against the guidelines to biographical articles on wikipedia. By removing a death section anyway which is common to most biographies of deceased people you are degrading the article further without giving it a chance to develop. Count Blofeld 10:50, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi I was just judging my your edit summaries which said "the family statements do not belong in an encyclopedia". I agree in a way that we don't need many quotes but I was trying to start building up the death section. Unfortunately however there isn't much info available I agree because his he was rather a private man. The article though need serious improvement. For an author like Crichton the literary techniques section should be far longer and I'd imagine there is a lot of material that could be used. I'll keep it in mind over the comming weeks to develop it if somebody else doesn't. At present its pretty manic! He wasn't much older than my father. Not a good age to die Count Blofeld 15:11, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

This is absurd, I cannot be on wikipedia because im not important enough, who defines whats important to people, what do i need atleast one thousand people who know my name a book written about me, to be on tv does this make a person important. how can you possibly have a page on the likes of paris hilton is she important, the appendix most useless unimportant part of the body has a page. This my friend is a sad day for the internet a place were people had freedom unmoderated unedited freedom to do mediocre things and now you are taking that away fro us.

sorry for using the word publicity, by publicity i want more people to know bout the organization, publicity not in the vested interests of using wikipedia to publicise but to have that as an article as our company is doing well and i thought it wud better to showcase it, now how can i get the article back, bcos its created twice and i think it wudnt survive long if i created it again!!!

TxtVox

You have tagged my page TxtVox for deletion...I wanted to ask you for an explanation on why this page violates the guidelines and pages like one for Ning (social network) does not. I have used the exact style guide and followed referencing guidelines.

It seems there is a bit of dual standards for companies based in Silicon Valley vs rest of the world. Just because the company is founded by a Valley insider does not make it more worthy of a reference.

Singlezero (talk) 18:05, 7 November 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your detailed explanation on the deletion procedure. I appreciate it. And sorry if I implied that I "owned" the article, I simply meant that I wrote it, I am very clear on the fact that owning something in public domain is impossible. Thanks again.

Hi there. I added some details on the page of Ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba. I forgot, however, to put in the brief explanation of my changes. How can I put those in retroactively? I just don't want people to erase my changes just because I didn't provide a description.. ..what I did was add a few relevant external links, added information on one of his first public appearances, and added a citation.

Bash Back

Why can gays use the term Homophobic but Christians can't use the term Christaphobic?????????? whay do you ban me from using the word?

Also why can bash back call a NAZI group a HATE GROUP but when I add that Bash Back who attacks christian churches a hate group you say it is trashing the site & you will ban me. BE FAIR OR ADMIT THAT YOU ARE A BIGOT who backs GAY SPEECH & bans Christian Speech. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.31.209.136 (talk) 01:36, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

wikipedia's censorship

I looked up Bash Back (The sodomite terrorist group that attacked the Church in Michigan) on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bash_Back) just to see what liberal bias they would have. Under the section "Antifascist action at 2008 Milwaukee Pridefest" Wakopedia says "In response, Bash Back! Milwaukee planned a confrontation of the hate group." the "hate group they are talking about is the NAZIs but then if the NAZIs are a hate group then Bash back must also be a hate group so I edited it to say "In response, The hate group Bash Back! Milwaukee planned a confrontation of the hate group."

Since they also didn't have any topic for the new terrorist attack on the church I added a few lines & was attacked by the Admins. So they added the following paragraph 2008 Disruption at Mt. Hope Church in Lansing, MI

Bash Back! members disrupted a Sunday sermon at Mt. Hope Church in Lansing, Michigan on November 9th, 2008. They dropped a banner in the church, threw thousands of fliers, made out in front of the congregation, yelled "Jesus was a Homo", pulled the fire alarm and initiated pro-gay chants. Mt. Hope is an Assemblies of God church which holds and promotes "ex-gay" events and preaches that homosexuality is a sin.

I edited the first line of the paragraph to read "Christaphobic Bash Back! members disrupted.... & added the following footnote

"Christphobia (from Greek Christós: Messiah; phóbos: fear, phobia) is an irrational fear of, aversion to, or discrimination against Christianity."

I took the defanition word for wors from Wakopedia's definition for Homophobia & just changed the Homo/Christos & Homo/ Christian parts.

For this I received the following note from the admin

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits, such as those you made to Bash Back. If you vandalize Wikipedia again, you will be blocked from editing. Please maintain a neutral point of view. ukexpat (talk) 01:30, 13 November 2008 (UTC)

Although paypoint.net as a company is fairly new, it was actually born from a merger between secpay and metacharge both companies had been around for a long while and when paypoint.net was launched it received a high number of mentions online and offline and to this date it continues to do so.

With these facts in mind, when you mention adding reliable sources are these both internal and external sources?

Sorry if I confused you. I do NOT own the company. Just wanted to submit a listing about them. It appears that I begin this process by editing something else to show my credibility. Is this correct? Margelennon (talk) 21:34, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Bank layer accumulation

do you think bank layer accumulation is a hoax? have you studied the existence of late cretaceous turkeys? i am currently preparing a manuscript for submission to the Journal of Geology about my findings in Utah... I though I would share the article with the wiki community as early as possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cretaceousturkey (talkcontribs) 02:00, 21 November 2008 (UTC)

Chiprovtsi FAC copyedit

Hello, I'm contacting you because you've volunteered on the Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers as a copyeditor. The Chiprovtsi article is currently a featured article candidate, but it requires an urgent copyedit by a native speaker in order to qualify for an FA. Your help will be greatly appreciated! Copy edit request

Hi. I am currently trying to get Richard Mohun through the WP:GAN process but some issues have been brought up with the prose and it was recommended that I request that some copyeditors take a look at it (see the article's talk page). I noticed you are listed at WP:PRV in this category and wondered if you would be able to take a look at it? Many thanks for any help you can offer - Dumelow (talk) 16:08, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks for agreeing to check over the article for me. It is much appreciated. Many editors have been involved already but the article still has some improvements to be made I think. Thanks once again - Dumelow (talk) 14:18, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Help with "Gerald N. Epstein"

I'm stunned by all this help all at once. Many thanks to all. I still don't know why I received a boilerplate-type message that this page title was blacklisted. I also still don't know how to move a message. Whatever. I'll now learn from the fixes that have been made. Again, many thanks. David Hollidays (talk) 16:15, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Help moving article to mainspace

Hello. Yes, I would love help moving the article from my user subpage to the mainspace. Please let me know what I should do to make that happen. Timber98 (talk) 17:17, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure what the unconstructive edit message really meant but things seem to be okay. The subpage is marked for deletion and the other page is in the mainspace. Thank you once again. Timber98 (talk) 18:06, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Question

Hi. I saw your name listed at general copyediting volunteer page. I wonder if you could help me with an article. I've brought Slovenian presidential election, 2007 to a FAC and the reviews have been generally positive with a remark that the language needs some polishing. I'd appreciate greatly if you could spare some time and run through the text. Thanks in advance. Kind regards. --Tone 14:05, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Mary Hopkin

Hi Ukexpat (oddly enough, me too)

You helped me out yesterday with a problem on the Mary Hopkin page. However, I don't know if you check on these things but it's been reversed. Whoever it is that's doing this is pretty quick off the mark.

Also, this was just one of 20 or so other articles where the same problem exists. The full list was in my original message.

Would you like me to make all the necessary edits or, given that reverting will happen again very quickly, is this something that needs to be handled differently?

Thanks. David T Tokyo (talk) 15:18, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your advice - much appreciated. I've never been through the dispute resolution process but I have been following the steps. First, a letter to the person involved (no reply), then editor assistance (yourself). I've tried third party contact twice but never had any responses. Ultimately I'm looking for some kind of official response to this, so I suppose I should escalate it. David T Tokyo (talk) 07:53, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ukexpat, I see you added tags to this article and wonder if you would mind considering my note on the talk page. I found it through the tasks portal and wikified it style-wise, but realised later all the refs are not third party, so it's got some problems still. Would appreciate your comments. Dear Wikipedia/Ukexpat,

Thanks for your reply regarding my article I wish to write about a social entrepreneur I know.

Firstly, this man is not exactly a friend of mine, more a colleague I know of through friends who have brought his experiences and achievements to my attention. I found his life story and experiences to be quite interesting, because this man has achieved serious goals in combating climate change via energy-efficiency, but has done so using methods which I have never heard of before and breaking Guinness World Records along the way. I find it inspirational and informative to read about his campaigns, projects, and achievements.. much the same that anyonee might find Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's life, experiences and achievements interesting.

I do not wish to promote him, and fully understand Wikipeida's views on writing articles in a bias or opinionated manner, however, I am a little curious as to how people write articles for Wikipeida if they are not interested in that person/subject themselves...? For example, someone who has no interest in climate change what so ever, would hardly spend hours writing an article about it. If I am not the best person to write an article of a social entrepreneur I have come to learn of - then who is ideally the best person?

The purpose of this article will be to write an informative, fair, well structured and referenced article of a social entrepreneur with interesting experiences and achievements... is that acceptable?

I think either way, your previous advice is a good idea, I will write the article in my sandbox and invite people to read it and provide their feedback, and make any edits based on their advice.

Thank you again for your time and help. Coolnrg (talk) 02:23, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

NMS Bill user name

Hello Ukexpat, just saw your note and understand your concern fully. As you can see, I have used this account to contribute to and comment on articles related to NMS and related subjects. Therefore, the "NMS" in the name is part of my disclosure and not meant in any way to be promotional. Likewise, I believe my edit history will show that edits are informational, not promotional, and in keeping with this ethic I have sought assistance before creating new pages (as in this case). I base my edits on the Starwood decision allowing "reasonable" edits to subjects with which one has a deep involvement, and WP:COI's advisement that a conflict arises when "advancing outside interests is more important to an editor than advancing the aims of Wikipedia." I believe all of my edits thus far have improved Wikipedia, and am willing to discuss any of them. Just ping me if you want to follow up. NMS Bill (talk) 18:40, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Thanks VERY much, Ukexpat. I will try moving the article from the sandbox, and commenting as you suggest. I see the instructions for the move in another thread. It may not come out quite right, I am still a little bit disoriented in here, to tell you the truth! But I will give it a try.

Moved the article, almost deleted it afterward, but I think all is shipshape now. Thanks again. Tinkwig (talk) 18:13, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Gerald Epstein

Ukexpat --

Thanks for your continuing help. I am in the process of redrafting the page on Gerald Epstein and am trying to find information and sources that point to his notability -- via reviews, appearances on national tv, etc. It seems to me that the continuing existence of one book for 18 years by the same publisher and the book's translation into 11 languages is one sign of notability. But I can see that more is needed.

Richard Hickox

I am his first cousin, Merrick Dowson, and have known him all my life.

I attended his funeral last Tuesday in Cornwall UK and exited with his sister, Charmian, arm in arm.

My mother Margery (nee Hickox) and his father Sidney were best friends and twin-like as they were born 15 months apart.

Incorrect information that needs to be corrected:-

He died in a Cardiff Hotel from an aortic aneurysm (confirmed after an autopsy) after being taken ill earlier in the day in Swansea during a recording session. He went to a local hospital, was released, went back to his hotel and died later in the evening in his room.

He was married three times firstly to his high school girlfriend Julie (I went to this wedding) and then to the other ladies mentioned. He was married to Julie for about 2 years? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.150.208.149 (talk) 18:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

There's a way to go yet before I'd like it moved to the right place, but will let you know. I have plenty of references and will add them when the time comes if that's ok with you. This is part of a larger project about my grandfather, and the sources I'm using come from our family archive which includes many press clippings, personal letters etc. This is (I think) fun! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrsco (talkcontribs) 16:46, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Yes, please move it to where it should be considering it's going to take me a while. No probs. And thanks for the source tips. Re: Simonetti Please do not accuse me of vandalism because I revert your misleading and incorrect edits. A proof of claim is not a case transfer. This is a shared school address

If you'd be so kind as to stop sending 'block warning' messages to this users talk page, it'd be appreciated. This is a shared address from a local public school and the children editing Wikipedia aren't reading the talk pages, especially considering this is a dynamic IP and changes on a per-desktop basis every so often as the wireless connections rotate, so you're not reaching the abusers in question. Hate to steal a line from Obi-Wan Kenobi here, but 'these are not the droids you're looking for'. 75.149.203.217 (talk) 16:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Regarding Student Vandalism

I would if I had any say, I'm not an athority figure. Just a student.

My point lies in that, as the messages are phrased they seem to be directed at a single person when at any time 20+ students from this IP are likely on Wikipedia and most recieve the message and (being uneducated in Wikipedia policy or the concept of a 'dynamic IP' or 'Proxy server') think they have somehow made the edit themselves, which drags them off task (assuming they're studying for an assignment/test and not messing around, which begrudginly some always will). If there are persistent edits, it'd be pertinent to phrase them is such a way as to demonstrate that it was a single users error and not the fault of the immediate student who recieved the message in place of another.

You may ban this IP if you so choose, I have my own account (I simply don't use it on public terminals) and wont really be detrimentally affected by that action. Just be aware that the messages sent aren't getting to the person they're directed to, and well, lets be honest, most students spend all day on Myspace or Youtube and could care less if they get 400+ students banned from editing on Wikipedia. Anyway, thank you for your time on the subject. I'll be on this computer until 2:30pm Eastern if you have any further inquirys or suggestions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.149.203.217 (talk) 16:55, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Reply

It should be noted that a large amount of information in my article is referenced to the official website. The information I put to identify the company is notable and the sources are all reliable. Almost every reference clicks into the website. It cannot get more reliable than that. I cited all that there is to cite. Please provide me with some more detailed feedback so I can get it right.
