While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Thanks for all the work you do on the AIPP page..... you have done a tireless and generally thankless job that many people benefit from..... It is wonderful that so many can access facts and stats about this event.
I would love to see the table for race wins by category returned but almost feel it would be the wrong thing to undo it myself. Hoping you will think it is worth putting back and re-enstate it. Glovemanp510 (talk) 09:08, 28 July 2014 (UTC) |
Help with SANFL seasons
[edit]- To do the WAFL results for each season, I took the following steps:
- Place all the results in a plain text TextEdit file
- Use the standard AFLGame format for each game
- Carefully replace, one-by-one, all the elements with their proper Wikipedia formatting
- Take care to make sure that they will be replaced in the correct order, which I do not recall but will come with practice
- Ultimately I am aiming to provide details which are much tougher to get than for the VFL in as consistent a format as possible (this is why I have not been doing new WANFL seasons of late)
With the SANFL, results would have to be obtained for another site (unlike the WAFL) and might require work on a Microsoft Word file so only the final scores are kept unless you want to put all results into a detail match format which is tougher.
I hope this helps! (luokehao) 23:25, 4 November 2014 (UTC)
Adelaide sister city relations
[edit]Hi Thejoebloggsblog, sister city relations are made by local government - i.e. the ones you have listed are made by the Corporation of the City of Adelaide, and are shown on the appropriate page, that is, City of Adelaide. The page to which you have added this section is for "Greater Adelaide" which contains 18 different local government areas, each of which have their own, differing, sister city relations. This has been pointed out on the article's Talk page, as others have made this error before you. Bahudhara (talk) 12:33, 5 November 2014 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of List of SANFL wooden spoons
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. VFL is not separate to AFL
[edit]Please stop separating the VFL flags from the AFL flags. There is no reliable reference that does that. There is no difference between Hawthorn's 1989 flag and Collingwood's 1990 flag. I appreciate all the other work you put into the articles, but this just has to stop. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 13:36, 1 May 2016 (UTC)
Port Adelaide players
[edit]I fully understand that the 1996 SANFL and 1997 AFL Port Adelaide club is the same club, but you can't merge the players category, as it is a subcat of Category:VFL/AFL players. The old system of Category:Port Adelaide Football Club players for only AFL players, and the Category:Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) players and Category:Port Adelaide Magpies players cats for SANFL players worked perfectly in terms of subcategorisation. And it's in alignment with how we deal with Richmond/Footscray VFA players. The cat system isn't perfect - ie all of the South Melbourne players are in the Sydney Swans cat, but you need to consider the bigger picture, and not just redefine things without any consultation or discussion. [edit] You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Port Adelaide Football Club. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.
Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:
- Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
- Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.
If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
I have opened up a discussion on the talk page, please discuss there rather than reverting. Flickerd (talk) 15:41, 27 May 2017 (UTC)
Edit war at Port Adelaide Football Club
[edit]Your recent editing history at Port Adelaide Football Club shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. You have also previously been reminded about assuming good faith and this edit summary is not appropriate, if you continue down this path, you may be reported to WP:ANI. Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. RonBot (talk) 17:13, 1 August 2018 (UTC)

The article Merv Shaw has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:58, 1 November 2018 (UTC)
The article Malcolm Cooper (footballer) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
No evidence of notability, no significant coverage in independent reliable sources. Not even close to meeting WP:NAFL
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The-Pope (talk) 13:59, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:2018 in Australian rules football
[edit]Hello, Thejoebloggsblog. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "2018 in Australian rules football".

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:1994 SANFL Grand Final banner, Port for AFL 1996.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:1994 SANFL Grand Final banner, Port for AFL 1996.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Good compromise reached on Adelaide's montage
[edit]It is good to see a compromise has been reached on Adelaide's montage after lots of edit warring. The best photos have been retained (Torrens rotunda, School of Mines on North Tce, and of course the pano of Vic Sq)...I was a fan of the Glenelg shot with the dramatic sky and rocks because I think it epitomises that area quite well, but the replacement is just as good. All in all, a good result and a good montage to replace the previous long standing one. Well done. Ashton 29 (talk) 11:58, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Port Adelaide Football Club - Lead
[edit]Hi Thejoebloggsblog,
Since you've made an attempt to remove the detail in the lead of the article a couple of time, I thought I'd come to your talkpage to discuss why it's formatted and covers what it does.
In accordance with MOS:INTRO, the lead aims to summarise the the most important parts of the article, so it can stand as a concise version of said article. Port Adelaide is notable for being one of Australia's oldest clubs and its successes in the SANFL. As such, both of these are covered. However, the identity of the club is also equally as important as the success it has achieved - it is an integral part of the club. Hence, it also acknowledges items such as the rivalries the club has, colours it wear and the nicknames it uses.
Furthermore, in accordance with MOS:LEADLENGTH - a single lead paragraph is not enough for an article the size of Port Adelaide's. The Article easily breaks 30K characters - it should aim for at least 3-4 lead paragraphs, of which it currently possesses.
If you have any other issues, please don't hesitate to reply and ping me.

Sporting Life Magazine Teams
[edit]Hi Thejoebloggsblog!
As in my edit summary, I've come over here so we can figure out some sort of compromise in regards to this issue. I've reverted the page to the state before the dispute, and would appreciate if you could refrain from further reverts in regards to this until we discuss the issue. My position is as follows:
- The name was actually listed incorrectly - I was misled into beliving the teams were called the "Team of the Year". However, as the references use the latter title they must be titled appropriately. Text within the wiki should be changed however, to reflect the correct title.
- The Modern All Australian side and the Sporting Life teams should be listed seperately as, despite being the same concept, they are recognised independently from one another - hence why the Carnivals and Modern AFL teams are recognised by the AFL, whilst the Sporting life teams are not. The Team selection undeniably happened, hence why it's listed in the first place, but they're seperate honours and should be represented as such.
- Additionally, the Carnivals and Sporting Life teams overlap in years due to their nature as seperate entities.
Thus, I propose the following: During in-text mentions of the team we change the text to accurately reflect the actual title of selected team by Sporting Life. We leave the section seperate under the Individual Honours section. We make the addition of that photo you added to this section for much-needed media coverage in the latter part of the article.
If you have any disagreements, please feel free to counter-propose. I'm all ears if that's the case.
- A lesser side point to end off - the nicknames listed were actually sourced in the main body of the article, so I've re-added them to the infobox. They're recognised by the club on its own website.
Looking forward to your response, and thanks! Empoleonmaster23 (talk) 08:47, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Thejoebloggsblog: I'd appreciate if you could actually partake in discussion over this, rather than removing the content. I reverted the page to the state before the dispute - hence my request to not perform edits on the related sections until we come to a resolution. Empoleonmaster23 (talk) 10:54, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Thejoebloggsblog: Adding prose does not necessarily make you correct. The difference between the Sporting Life and official All Australian team is their association with the Governing Australian Football body. Sporting Life has no affilition with the body - simply providing their own 'experts' to come with their best of team. The Carnivals, and later, the AFL's all Australian teams have direct connection to the governing bodies of the organisations - the Carnival Team being selected by the State Body representatives, and the AFL being the governing body of the sport in the modern era. That's where this distinction between the two lies, and why representing them together is incorrect - they are not considered the same entity, hence why one is unofficial and the other is official.
- I once again request you leave the page alone while we come to a compromise. The following is proposed display, with references removed to prevent clutter on your talk page. My proposed references would be the already pre-listed ones for the listed All Australian members, Sporting Life information supported by researh performed by Peter Argent, and then your linked AFL references for additional clarity.
Sporting Life's All Australian
[edit]Sporting Life Magazine first pioneered the concept of a 'team of the year' in 1947, and would run each year until 1955. The AFL does not recognise the teams selected by Sporting Life.
- Bob Quinn – 1947 (captain)
- Dick Russell – 1950
- Fos Williams – 1950, 1951
- Harold McDonald – 1951, 1955
All-Australian
[edit]The All-Australian team is considered a 'best-of' selection of players for each calender year, with each player represented in their team position. The team is selected by a panel of experts.
Interstate carnivals
- John Abley – 1956, 1958, 1961

- Craig Bradley – 1983, 1985
- Tony Giles – 1983
- Stephen Curtis – 1983
- Greg Anderson – 1987

- Warren Tredrea – 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004
- Brett Montgomery – 2002
- Josh Francou – 2002
- Chad Cornes – 2004, 2007
- Mark Williams – 2004 (coach)
- Kane Cornes – 2005, 2007
- Brendon Lade – 2006, 2007
- Shaun Burgoyne – 2006
- Chad Wingard – 2013, 2015
- Travis Boak – 2013, 2014, 2020 (VC)
- Robbie Gray – 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018
- Paddy Ryder – 2017
- Darcy Byrne-Jones – 2020
- Charlie Dixon – 2020
- @Thejoebloggsblog: I'm only reverting the page to its prior state until we come to a consensus on display. Please continue this conversation here, Joe, this is my fourth attempt at contact.
- Addressing what your edit summary said, yes, I have read those sources. I've even suggested their use above. However, Primary sources are no more important than Secondary - both have their advantages and weaknesses. Primary =/= good/bad, Secondary =/= good/bad. June 2021
[edit]Your recent editing history at Port Adelaide Football Club shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
