Sulphurdale, Utah (!)
Hi Utahraptor, just wondered if you saw my comment at T:TDYK about Sulphurdale. I saw you're away for a few days so there's no problem if you can't sort it for a few days but I thought it would make an interesting hook. Hope you have a good new year! SmartSE (talk) 12:42, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Sulphurdale, Utah
On 1 January 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Sulphurdale, Utah, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that although Sulphurdale was established due to nearby sulfur deposits, it was abandoned and the area is now exploited for its geothermal power? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Orphans
Hi, I just wanted to let you know (since your comment at Talk:Norhill, Houston/GA1 is a little confusing) that articles are considered orphans if they have no links coming in from other articles, not because they don't have many links going out. That article is an orphan as it is not currently linked to by any other. Anyway, both of those things (links going out and coming in) are easily fixable. It's perhaps not fair to list them as reasons for quick-failing an article. I completely agree with you that the article is not at GA standard, but if you're not going to do a full review, it's probably best to only point out major failings of the GA criteria. (Especially for new editors who might not really know how GA works. :) ) --BelovedFreak 02:11, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm new to reviewing Good articles. You learn as you go, I guess. Thanks for letting me know. :) The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:20, 8 January 2011 (UTC)
- No problems. Good for you for getting stuck into reviewing, there's a huge backlog so we need reviewers! Don't worry about it though, while you're still gaining experience, try to keep checking back on the criteria and focusing on what's actually required there. And maybe you do this already, but reading reviews that other people do is a good way to pick up tips. The above review was slightly unusual in that neither the nominator or major contributor seemed to really know what was happening! Sometimes though, I have seen articles nominated that fall well below the standard for GA, but whose nominators are quite keen to get there. If I get the feeling that's the case, I try to take a bit of time to do a bit more of a detailed review, even if it's a fail, as well as pointing them in the direction of WP:PR. A full review is not a requirement at GA, but sometimes 1st-time nominators don't really get why the article fails and will simply renominate. GA reviewing is pretty simple in principal, but you'll find different editors have different ways of going about it so don't worry! --BelovedFreak 14:24, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

DYK nomination for John Graham
I reviewed the DYK nomination for John Graham (racing driver). The article depends extensively on an unreliable source which is the same one used to cite the hook. This makes it a poorly referenced BLP. While I don't think it's acceptable as is, I don't think it would take long to fix given the right sources. --Pnm (talk) 23:43, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

New Years Message for WikiProject United States
With the first of what I hope will be monthly newsletters I again want to welcome you to the project and hope that as we all work together through the year we can expand the project, create missing articles and generally improve the pedia thought mutual cooperation and support. Now that we have a project and a solid pool of willing members I wanted to strike while the iron is hot and solicite help in doing a few things that I believe is a good next step in solidifiing the project. I have outlined a few suggestions where you can help with on the projects talk page. This includes but is not limited too updating Portal:United States, assessing the remaining US related articles that haven't been assessed, eliminating the Unrefernced BLP's and others. If you have other suggestions or are interested in doing other things feel free. I just wanted to offer a few suggestions were additional help is needed. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, comments or suggestions or you can always post something on the projects talk page. Essay
Ok, I don't like essays because they can be created by just one user and then that user can point to them during discussion, causing it to appear that it is a consensus. For example, a user can see keep/delete (afd) support/oppose (rfa) per (the user's own essay). I believe Wikipedia is a community, and as such discussions, policies, etc should have community involvement and consensus from the community, not just one user creating an essay, and then using it as a reason to support their position on issues. CTJF83 chat 19:04, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- OK, I think I see what you mean. But that doesn't necessarily mean all essays are like that. For example, the one I pointed out to you on your RfA, WP:RBI, is a good essay to consider. When you think about it, the motive of persistent trolls is to attract attention to themselves. They actually want to see that orange banner on the top of their page that warns them about what they are doing. It's like adding wood to a fire. For this purpose, the troll is the fire, and warnings are wood. The more wood you add to the fire, the bigger (or more intense) it becomes. By ignoring the fire (for our purpose, trolls) and just pouring water on it (blocking them), they are more likely to cease. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 19:08, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- Ok, I understand. That is a good essay to follow. I also understand your fire analogy, and if I pass, I will definitely put RBI in to practice on trolls. Thanks for "straightening" me out. CTJF83 chat 19:12, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Adminship and DYK
I want to run for adminship and be a better DYKer. WAYNESLAM 20:59, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- I don't think you should try an RfA for a while. You still don't have rollback back, and that's going to look bad. Unfortunately, you still have a long way to go before you should try an RfA. However, given enough time, I'm sure you would make a good administrator.
- If you want to make better DYKs, all you have to do is write an article that is at least 1,500 characters long and come up with an interesting fact from the article. The fact will be the hook that is used in the DYK. Hope this helped. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:08, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- I need to make a good hook that would work. How can I make an article and work on it on my own with no help? WAYNESLAM 21:14, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Good writing skills are very important when it comes to writing Wikipedia articles. You have to have verifiable, reliable sources available in order to start the article. Then, based on the information in the sources, you write the article. Remember not to plagiarize or closely paraphrase the text. A hook should be something from the article that is backed up by a source and that is interesting enough to be featured on the Main Page. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:23, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

- Use as much information as you can from the sources. That way, the article has a better chance of being large enough to qualify for DYK. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:35, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry for butting in, but Wayne (you may have already been told this) use Google or Bing to find sources. Nascar1996 04:33, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Another piece of advice for Wayne: Sources don't have to be websites. They could be newspapers (using {{cite news}}), magazines, etc. In fact, I find most of my sources by clicking the "News" button at the top of Google. →♠Gƒoley↔Four♣← 04:45, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.
So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success! Your drive coordinators –S Masters (talk), Diannaa (Talk), The UtahraptorTalk to me, and Tea with toast (Talk) |

RfA
Hello! I was wondering if you could give me some advice. I'm planning on going for a third RfA in February (my second RfA was in August), but I'd like some advice from other Wikipedians before I make a third one. Do you think that it has a chance of succeeding, and do you have any suggestions for what I can do to improve its chances of succeeding? --Slon02 (talk) 01:26, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Have a look at what qualities I think an administrator should have by clicking here. I have a few words of advice for you:
- Don't nominate yourself. Self-nominations don't always hurt, but they can. Find an administrator to nominate you; that way, voters will know that a user with a high level of experience thinks you're ready.
- One of the concerns that may come up is lack of content contributions. You're a top-notch vandal fighter as well as an excellent copy editor, but you don't have any GAs or FAs. Some people look for these kinds of things in RfAs, and you may garner some opposition based on this.
- Of course, this is just my opinion, and you may do as you wish. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:45, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments, and thank you for pointing out the link to your opinions on admin criteria. I have been thinking about the lack of content contributions, especially since it has been brought up a few times by other editors and it is a constant argument in RFA's. While I don't think that I'll be able to write a GA or FA by the time of my next RfA, I do think that I will be able to make several more articles of similar quality to my last one. I know that this won't be enough to quiet the RfA group that focuses on content, but hopefully it will be enough for some of them to show them that I did create some content. --Slon02 (talk) 03:23, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Hi Utahraptor. I've done a few more copy edits, including a longer article (as you suggested). Have you had a chance to look at them? If so, do you have any comments? Back in November last year, you copy-edited the Loaded article prior to me nominating it for good article status. It was finally reviewed and passed today: Talk:Loaded (band)/GA1. Still waiting for Velvet Revolver to be reviewed. HrZ (talk) 15:14, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

- Now that you mention it, could you take a look at the "Possible return (2010–present)" section of Velvet Revolver? The rest of the article hasn't really needed any work since you last copy-edited it. However that section has been added to and, to me, seems a bit bulky and excessive? Could just be me but wouldn't mind someone else having a look. HrZ (talk) 15:28, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
Seem to have come into a dispute over Velvet Revolvers lead sentence amongs other issues. Started a discussion on the talk page. Don't want to turn it into an edit war which wouldn't help the articles chances of GA status. Is it possible you could give your opinion on the matter? Thanks. HrZ 14:28, 8 February 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the November 2010 Backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering the barnstars within the next couple of weeks. Bugger! lol
Hi
I think that I have made a little woopsie lol
For some reason (probably due to a page update without me refreshing) when I clicked on the links on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors/Requests it was giving me the link above the ones I was clicking on. As a result I have just double copyedited The_Heroes_of_Olympus - I was half watching Revenge of the Sith while I was starting the edits and the battle scene got the better of me, which is I suppose why I did not notice it was the wrong page - DOH!
If you feel I have over edited it (as I do not know what state it was in when you started on it) - feel free to undo my changes!
I have refreshed the page now and am starting on the one I should have done, as well as pausing the film :¬)

Mentoring students: be sure to check in on them
This message is going out to all of the Online Ambassadors who are, or will be, serving as mentors this term.
Hi there! This is just a friendly reminder to check in on what your mentees are doing. If they've started making edits, take a look and help them out or do some example fixes for them, if they need it. And if they are doing good, let them know it!
If you aren't mentoring anyone yet, it looks like you will be soon; at least one large class is asking us to assign mentors for them, and students in a number of others haven't yet gotten to asking ambassadors to be their mentors, but may soon. --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 20:09, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

Marking articles students are working on
Howdy, Online Ambassador!
This is a quick message to all the ambassadors about marking and tracking which articles students are working on. For the classes working with the ambassador program, please look over any articles being worked on by students (in particular, any ones you are mentoring, but others who don't have mentors as well) and do these things:
- Add {{WAP assignment | term = Spring 2011 }} to the articles' talk pages. (The other parameters of the {{WAP assignment}} template are helpful, so please add them as well, but the term = Spring 2011 one is most important.)
- If the article is related to United States public policy, make sure the article the WikiProject banner is on the talk page: {{WikiProject United States Public Policy}}
- Add Category:Article Feedback Pilot (a hidden category) to the article itself. The second phase of the Article Feedback Tool project has started, and this time we're trying to include all of the articles students are working on. Please test out the Article Feedback Tool, as well. The new version just deployed, so any bug reports or feedback will be appreciated by the tech team working on it.
And of course, don't forget to check in on the students, give them constructive feedback, praise them for positive contributions, award them {{The WikiPen}} if they are doing excellent work, and so on. And if you haven't done so, make sure any students you are mentoring are listed on your mentor profile.
Thanks! --Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 18:14, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

GOCE drive newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.
On March 21, SMasters appointed Chaosdruid (talk) and Torchiest (talk) as Guild coordinators to serve in place of The Utahraptor, who recently stepped down. Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 54 people have signed up for the drive, and 33 are actively participating. If you signed up for the drive but have not participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us. We are making slow progress on achieving our target of reducing the overall backlog by 15%; in order to accomplish this goal we will need to complete about 400 more articles. However, we are making good progress on the 2009 backlog, as we have eliminated over half of the articles from 2009 that were present at the start of the drive. GOCE drive stats
Hi
I know you are saying that you didn't complete the copyedit but the work you did may still count. Normally when an article is tagged for copyedit and the editing is only in part of it, the editor takes the word count of the parts they edited. If the tag was at the top of the article and one only edited the first half the word count would be a word count on the first half instead of the whole article word count.
Please can you respond at User_talk:Diannaa#MofM_and_The_Utahraptor to say whether or not you still wish to remain uncredited.

Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 backlog elimination drive report
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors May 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating!
There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. General feedback
Hi Utahraptor,
How are you? I found you on the mentor page for Copy Editors. I can imagine you are usually really busy. I am a newbie to Wikipedia and wrote an article. I was wondering if you could give me your quick feedback on the article. No need to dedicate a month to it like the mentor program I read as I don't want to take too much of your time on a subject that you probably are not interested in. But if you could check it out, that would be great.

I just dont know how to change the URL of my draft to show Gala Inc. instead of Gala Group. Also how to move from a draft work to a published Wiki page. - I have worked to remove the Link rot on my article. I also added the categories to the article. I noticed the Gala Group page a few weeks ago and started to focus on Gala Inc. as the holding company and simply mention the members of the Gala Group. I just dont know how to change the URL of my draft to show Gala Inc. instead of Gala Group. Also how to move from a draft work to a published Wiki page. Every user's contributions, no matter how small, all make a big difference in Wikipedia. So don't consider yourself a "small contributor", because there's no such thing as a small contributor. No matter how many contributions you make, and no matter what type of contributions you make, you will always make a big difference. Nice work, by the way. I'm glad to have assisted you. If there's anything else I can do for you, you know where to find me. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 13:12, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

GOCE elections
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors
Elections are currently underway for our Guild coordinators. The voting period will run for 14 days and ends on June 30, 23:59 UTC. All GOCE members in good standing, as well as past participants of any of the Guild's Backlog elimination drives, are eligible to vote. The candidate with the highest number of votes will become the Lead Coordinator, therefore, your vote really matters! There is also a referendum to appoint a Coordinator Emeritus. Cast your vote today. |

And now you know why I opposed. I would have been much more harsh than SandyGeorgia. He was a little kid who had no reason to be an admin. However, it's worse than that. I figured someone would figure it all out. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 18:14, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's still common practice to include a reason or reasons as to why you're opposing. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 20:02, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- But not a hard and fast rule, unless I'm missing something. I knew he was immature, but my way of dragging it out isn't very nice. Apparently, given what followed, my comments weren't really required, because I was going to blast him a new one. I was pretty sure it was all going to come out, and it did. No one knows this, but there's absolute method in my madness always. I do nothing around here with out a motive, and writing no comment after a vote is one of those actions. How people react is more telling than anything I can say. OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 22:02, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- No it is not a "hard and fast rule", but as you can see here, your "writing no comment" in RfAs causes more problems than it addresses, even if the problems with the user running for adminship are addressed later on. Plus, if you look at almost all failed RfAs, there are some pretty convincing arguments in the oppose section that are put in the nicest of ways. Couldn't you put your oppose rationale in a nice way? The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 22:32, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
- Funny guy, you must not know me very well. I don't do "nice". I think I got a bit of a stroke just typing the word. On another note, I see your ex-governor is running for Pres. I just don't see a Utah boy every becoming President. Except for me, but then again, I'd never do the nice thing. :) OrangeMarlin Talk• Contributions 22:48, 21 June 2011 (UTC)

Dianna on wikibreak
I have to go to an out-of-town event on the Canada Day long weekend. Since my travel day is June 30 I will be unable to launch the drive and close off the election (if we don't close if off early). Would you be able to do these things? You would have to be available more or less exactly at 23:59 UTC on the 30th of June. I will be on an airplane at that time. Please check your schedule and let me know if you can do it or not. Thank you. --Diannaa (talk) 01:08, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I will most likely be able to close the elections and launch the drive. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:19, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- Also, I think it's important to know that I won't be here from July 17-19 or 20; I'm going on a vacation to Silver Reef. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:33, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will be bringing my laptop and keeping up with things when I don't have to be at the venue. Return travel day is Monday and then if all goes as planned at this event I will be away again at the end of August. I will mark down your vacation days in my planner. --Diannaa (talk) 18:51, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
Wiknik
Wiknik this weekend if you're interested. Looks like Pioneer Park farmers' market. Nijonjoe, Useight, and some others will be there. GreenGlass(talk) 04:36, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm going to West Haven Days on Saturday. What time is the Wiknik? I might be able to make it after West Haven Days. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 14:19, 23 June 2011 (UTC)
- No time or location has been decided yet, so maybe weigh in. GreenGlass(talk) 00:49, 24 June 2011 (UTC)
Suggestion for WikiProject United States to support WikiProject American Old West
It was recently suggested that WikiProject American Old West might be inactive or semiactive and it might be beneficial to include it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States. I have started a discussion on the projects talk page soliciting the opinions of the members of the project if this project would be interested in being supported by WikiProject United States. Please feel free to comment on your opinions about this suggestion. --Kumioko (talk) 19:38, 6 July 2011 (UTC)
Vacation
Hope you have a nice holiday and return refreshed :¬)
Silver reef looks great, like a Sergio Leone film set! - though the goings on I have seen on TV from a town called Eureka would make me wary of going there lol Chaosdruid (talk) 20:14, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- Your Eureka comment made me chuckle a little. Silver Reef was, in fact, used as a backdrop for a movie, though; 1969s Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid was filmed in southern Utah, with scenes being filmed in Silver Reef and other nearby ghost towns such as Grafton. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 20:26, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- I went over to Rockland County, NY, to visit my brother and we went to a couple of areas there, and a little further north, that had been abandoned, very eerie. They were old mines and a small settlement that were more like our 15th and 16th century abandoned buildings, in terms of being overgrown and decaying, even though they were occupied just over a hundred years ago. I think it is probably because of the temperatures. Although we get only as low as −8 °C (18 °F) (ish) here in the UK, it was as cold in Monsey as it had been in Sweden the week before, −18 °C (0 °F) if I remember correctly, and for much longer periods of time. That is probably why they decay so fast in the North (well, it's almost in Canada!) Chaosdruid (talk) 21:14, 8 July 2011 (UTC)
- Last year I visited several of Utah's ghost towns, including several mining towns. Coal mining was a major industry in Carbon County in the 20th century, and continues to be a major industry in the county today. From about 1912 to the 1970s, numerous company towns were constructed in Carbon County. I visited several of them: Standardville, Peerless, and Royal among them. Their buildings were very decrepit even though they were inhabited less than 100 years ago. I can only imagine what town life was like when these towns were active. It's hard to believe that eighty years ago Carbon County's coal towns were alive and well, and today only a couple have avoided becoming ghost towns. Guild of Copy Editors mentorship
I noticed that you are on the mentorship list and was wandering if you could mentor me as far as copy editing is concerned. I copyedited my first article a few days ago and, reading through it today, I don't think I did as good a job on it as I could have done (even though, as yet, there have been no real problems highlighted except for a little mishap over some dates which was quickly reverted). Thanks in advance --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 22:34, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I could mentor you. I won't be available for the first part of next week; I'm going to be in Southern Utah from July 17-19, and I will be in Eureka, Utah on the 20th. But I will be available all this week and the second half of next week. Could you tell me what article you copy edited so I can review it to determine where to begin? Thanks, The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:43, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- First thing: thank you very much for helping me out, second thing: No worries at all about your availability (I'm sure I will find something to do in the meantime) and third thing: This was the article I copy edited - Timeline of the 2011 Egyptian revolution under Supreme Council of the Armed Forces
- Thanks for the link. It's getting late where I live, so I'll review your copy edit of the article tomorrow morning (between 15:00 UTC and 18:00 UTC). The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:45, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
- Oh no problems at all. Take your time with it as well. I have a gut feeling that there may well be a long list of things I need to work on ;-) --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 03:46, 12 July 2011 (UTC)

Copy Editing
Thanks for the feedback. I will go through the article again with those points in mind. One thing I forgot to ask about was that users were adding new information to the article, despite the copy edit tag I left at the top. How would I deal with that when copy editing. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 16:31, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- It looks like, in most cases, the editors were editing after you had been inactive for a while. This is generally acceptable, but if it presents a problem for you, just issue a notice to any user who edits the article while you're copy editing it telling them to allow you to finish your copy edit before continuing their own edits. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 23:37, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
- Oh, ok. Wasn't trying to step on anyones toes or anything. Was just wondering. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 23:43, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Timeline of the 2011 Egyptian revolution under Supreme Council of the Armed Forces
I believe I have finished the majority of the points you made with one exception. I am still confused about the tone of the article and how that should be changed, even after reading the link you sent me on the subject. Any helpful pointers would be appreciated so that I can finish going over it. --Skamecrazy123 (talk) 21:52, 16 July 2011 (UTC)
- That's great! I'll fix the tone problems and look over your copy edit as soon as I get back on the 20th, or if I have enough time at the hotel. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 00:54, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the reminder, you just make sure you have a good time and refresh those batteries before returning :¬)

Mid-drive newsletter available for editing
Hi, Utahraptor. I hope you are having a great trip. I have made a first draft of a mid-drive newsletter and it is available here for further work. If you have time to check it over that would be great. Thanks. --Diannaa (talk) 17:21, 17 July 2011 (UTC)
- Hey, sorry I wasn't able to work on it. I've volunteered at the Silver Reef Museum, and I've been busy with that since yesterday. I'll still be able to participate in and coordinate the Guild in addition to my new volunteer work, so don't worry too much about inactivity on my part. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 12:31, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- The newsletter was sent out as-is, it didn't need any editing this time. Thanks for the update. Sounds like you are having a great time. Good stuff --Diannaa (talk) 14:00, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
GOCE drive newsletter
Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive update
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
So far, 45 people have signed up for the drive, of which 30 are actively participating, a very high participation rate. If you have not signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. If you have questions about getting started, feel free to talk to us.
Progress has been less than that needed to meet our target for the drive (which would reduce the backlog by about 400 articles). Remember though, if everyone copy edits one or two articles every day, we will easily meet our goal. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. Reducing the number of articles on this list has been a major success of this drive. Thanks for participating! Your drive coordinators – Diannaa, Chaosdruid, The Utahraptor, Slon02 and SMasters |

Silver Reef
Good job on the new Silver Reef pictures. With a bit of elbow grease and spit polish, I think this article may be good enough for FA. Cheers! NielsenGW (talk) 19:59, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- It's still a far cry from FA, but I'm working on it. I've got a few more sources to add, and I still need to expand the "Decline" section. But I agree, with the right amount of work, Silver Reef could become a Featured article. After all, it is one of only two places where silver was substantially mined in sandstone formations, so it's notable enough to be Featured. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:45, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
