Philosothon
Stifle please note that the COI issue in relation to the Philosothon page has been dealt with during the review claim following the deletion of the article. The article was peer reviewed for a reputable journal and it was edited by university based academics that are specialist in Philosophy and Education. In terms of lack of notability it is not notable in the US but nor is Neighbours and AFL football both of which deserve a place in this encyclopaedia. Likewise this event is notable in an educational environment in Australasian and UK Schools, high school, middle schools and primary schools. It also has strong links with the university sector over the past 8 years. notability has also been established. So why delete?Sydney59 (talk) 16:00, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

Asking Your Support
Hi, good morning. I noticed that you are very active on the State of New York University page. I wanted to let you know that the page of one of the trustees Joseph Belluck has been nominated for deletion. I would really appreciate it if you could support the page so that it is not deleted: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Joseph_Warren_Belluck
Thank you very much Nwerner1 (talk) 13:41, 7 August 2015 (UTC)
Sorry to bother you, but your closure does not correctly assess community consensus here:
- Nominator says "I'm sure any sources may be non-English and offline" not true, as shown below, a question of fact
- Necrothesp votes "definite keep", citing WP:NPOL
- I voted "keep" citing sources, and NPOL
- Cutest Penguin voted "delete" sayimg that the subject would be notable if true, but says it is a hoax, "Hoax" is not true, a question of fact, so the vote reverts to "notable"
- Fuebaey changed his vote to "keep", citing my sources and NPOL
- Nyttend voted "Delete" "per Fuebaey", since Fuebaey changed his vote, this reverts to "keep", for the "Hoax' see Cutest Penguin
- Sulabhvarshney makes a Comment which is shown to be irrelevant, since the (incomplete) list in question begins only in 1951, and the subject was a member before that
The result seems to be a clear "keep", since there remains not a single argument for deletion. I will add the sources and the info to the article as soon as I come to it. Kraxler (talk) 14:54, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
- As noted in my talk page header and FAQ, I consider all my deletion decisions carefully before closing and do not change them based on talk page requests. In any event, no consensus and keep are functionally equivalent. Stifle (talk) 15:00, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

Our Wiki page IFA Paris has been deleted? Why? We are one of the biggest fashion schools and all the other fashion schools can have a Wikipedia page, but we can't? We changed a lot and tried hard to make it sound satisfactory.. How can I reinstate it? Thanks in advance. Nikki38394724 (talk) 01:28, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- IFA Paris was deleted because the community consensus said it should be. No two articles are alike and each one stands or falls on its own merits, so I am unable to entertain suggestions that because another article exists, yours should also.
- It won't be possible to reinstate the article unless further and better reliable sources can be provided to show that the school is properly notable. You'll also need to review the conflict of interest rules. Stifle (talk) 08:09, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for getting back to us. We understand that just because another article exists, it isn't a valuable argument. But the page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istituto_Marangoni for example is even more worthless than ours was and is also missing credible sources, yet nobody decides to delete it. No idea why our page became a victim. We would like to reinstate the article, making it simpler and narrowing it down to everything for which we have reliable sources. How do we get started with this? Can you give us a helping hand? Thanks.
Nikki38394724 (talk) 09:11, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- As I've already explained, we don't have a particular order for dealing with suboptimal articles.
- Have you read WP:COI? Stifle (talk) 10:06, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I've read it. We would like to reinstate the article, making it simpler and narrowing it down to everything for which we have reliable sources. How do we get started with this? Can you give us a helping hand?
- Nikki38394724 (talk) 10:23, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, you've said all that already. Repeating the same thing isn't going to help. As you've read the COI rules, you'll know that we don't encourage organizations to write about themselves. You would need to file a request at WP:REFUND for the article to be undeleted as a draft, and then when you feel that it is appropriate as an article, file a request at WP:DRV for permission to move it into the main article space. I will not be in a position to do any of these things for you. If you find yourself unable to file the necessary requests, try filing a request for help at WP:HD instead.
- Please note that I am unable to provide further assistance on this matter. Stifle (talk) 10:27, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
guru
Hmmm. I thought I changed that to \.guru, which would only match the blog tld. Never mind. Guy (Help!) 11:00, 17 August 2015 (UTC)

Philip Wright (bishop)
I would have thought that Philip Wright (bishop) was the correct name for the page, rather than Philip S. Wright. It is my under under standing that Wikipedia biographies are to be named according to the name the person usually or commonly goes by. When disambiguation is needed, in the case of bishops (bishop) is place behind their name. I understand middle names and middle initials are a deprecated form of disambiguation.
I do understand that the url [1] which you use to support your remaming of the article refers Philip S. Wright but it also refers to him as Philip Wright ("Bishop Philip Wright is married to Mrs. Carla Suite-Wright") Wayne Jayes (talk) 14:23, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Invitation to subscribe to the edit filter mailing list
Hi, as a user in the edit filter manager user group we wanted to let you know about the new wikipedia-en-editfilters mailing list. As part of our recent efforts to improve the use of edit filters on the English Wikipedia it has been established as a venue for internal discussion by edit filter managers regarding private filters (those only viewable by administrators and edit filter managers) and also as a means by which non-admins can ask questions about hidden filters that wouldn't be appropriate to discuss on-wiki. As an edit filter manager we encourage you to subscribe; the more users we have in the mailing list the more useful it will be to the community. If you subscribe we will send a short email to you through Wikipedia to confirm your subscription, but let us know if you'd prefer another method of verification. I'd also like to take the opportunity to invite you to contribute to the proposed guideline for edit filter use at WP:Edit filter/Draft and the associated talk page. Thank you! Political alignment - Página /12 newspaper in Argentina
Hi Stifle, good to hear about you, your role in Wikipedia
I am not going to add any drama to Wikipedia, because there's not. There is drama in Argentina, but that is another matter
I am new as a wikipedia contributor, so I apologise if I have not played the rules by the book. All I have tried to do is to correct a highly hypocritical appearance stating that Pagina 12, a newspaper in Argentina, is aligned with "centre-left" or something that is called "progresismo". This newspaper founded by Jorge Lanata who was subsequently ousted, has become an utterly unconditional supporter of the Kirchners who rule Argentina for nearly 12 years at the point of even defending the undefendable like the appointment of a former torturer (General Milani) as Chief Commander of the Armed Forces. No matter what Cristina Kirchner, the president, says or does, in open and clear contradiction with previous statements and anything commonly admitted as being "leftist", it is supported and defended by Página 12. Their main contributors, a group who call themselves "Carta Abierta" have clearly expressed in their newspaper to support and vote for "Frente para la Victoria", Cristina Kirchner's party.
I therefore find it natural that they should assume their political alignment and not perversely, on the foreign versions of Wikipedia at least (Argentine readers cannot be fooled), call themselves "centre-left"
If, because this presumably big supporter of the Kirchners, called "Banfield", has prerogatives to block me on Wikipedia's Pagina 12 page, so be it. I just thought I would try to end hypocrisy
Thanks for the opportunity to express myself anyway

- I take absolutely no position whatsoever on who is "right" about the article, and have no intention to do so. The one thing I observed was that you broke the three-revert rule, which is why I blocked you. Stifle (talk) 07:24, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
What a particularly inept bit of adminship there. Repeated edit warring from one editor across a range of articles, which you then reward by doing nothing over it, but protecting the article in his favoured state for a week. Andy Dingley (talk) 10:05, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- You will be well aware that protection is not an endorsement of the current version.
- I will not dignify the remainder of your message with a response. Stifle (talk) 12:57, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- When Garageland is next at ANEW for edit-warring the next article to his version of truth (likely to be Morning Star by his latest edits), are you going to support him in that one too by locking the article to his favoured version? Andy Dingley (talk) 13:07, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- I agree with User:Stifle that protection of Hard left was justified. Anyone can open an RFC on the talk page to decide if the names of those politicians should be included. EdJohnston (talk) 13:27, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- So bulk-stripping sources is now a content issue, rather than behavioural, even when it's an editor who has just been blocked for edit-warring and calls the rest of us "cunt"s without the slightest admin comment? Andy Dingley (talk) 13:40, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- Exactly, Andy. His blanking edits and bulk-stripping just goes to show how illogical Stifle's actions and occupation of his position is. Attractel (talk) 10:53, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

- Stifle, you told us to start talking, but we already have been - I've received no reply. What should I do, talk to a brick wall? There was no consensus to change it in the first place. The only person engaging in edit-warring was Garageland66, which is why I refrained from reverting it again in the first place. This is a procedural absurdity from an inept admin to say the least. Attractel (talk) 10:51, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
- Calling me "inept", "illogical", etc. is not likely to make me want to take your side. Stifle (talk) 13:36, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

3RR
do I understand correctly? the 3RR rule means in practice that if a contributor wants to correct a misleading statement and the author of that misleading statement keeps reverting it to his "advantage", the honest contributor just has to sit and sigh? Liberté&justice (talk) 23:57, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
- Both users should be discussing their issues and not edit warring. Reverting consistently three times a day for a week is just as bad as four times spread over 24 hours. Stifle (talk) 08:48, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
I wonder whether deleting the image from Material Girl was a mistake. Talk:Finally (CeCe Peniston song), Talk:Wildside (Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch song), and Talk:I'm Coming Out prove that any rule might allow two cover arts. --George Ho (talk) 10:58, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

File:Clement Davies 1948.jpg
Hi, You recently deleted this image as it was not being used in an article and you then went on to state this in the relevant image deletion discussion. It appears that another editor not involved in this discussion, took it upon themself to delete the image from the article it was being used in and which is still currently under discussion. I have added a comment to this discussion that I will re-up the image but feel under the circumstances, that since you were the deleting editor, it would be easier for you to restore the image file. It would also be helpful if you could then restore the image to the article. This would avoid problems and assist those editors in discussion on this matter. Thanks. Graemp (talk) 15:12, 7 October 2015 (UTC)

- Oops. I've restored the image and tagged it properly. Stifle (talk) 15:25, 7 October 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. However, the same editor has again deleted it from United Kingdom general election, 1950 so that it is again orphaned. To avoid an edit war, it would help if you could restore the image to that article with a suitable explanation. Thanks. Graemp (talk) 05:10, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
- I didn't remove it from that article, so I'm not going to re-add it either. Stifle (talk) 08:17, 8 October 2015 (UTC)
- In which case, please be vigilant to ensure that the image does not again get deleted before the article discussion has concluded. Thanks. 09:17, 8 October 2015 (UTC)

In 2008 you salted this title after articles about a then-18-year-old-hopeful racing driver were created three times in a day. In seven years it seems his career has progressed. Today a newish user requested assistance in moving Draft:Jono Lester to the title; looking into it, I found that an article had already been created in 2013 at Jonathan Lester, bypassing the salting. Since he is clearly known as Jono, I have moved the article to that title and told the new requester to improve that one. Letting you know because I over-rode your 2008 salt. Hi, you have closed the DRV discussion on Draft:Carathéodory rank? I guess it's ok to close the discussion as "overturn". But the wording there seems not clear. Page protection at Argument from authority
Hi. I saw that you protected the page. I honestly appreciate you protecting the page, and wish I'd thought to request page protection myself. It would certainly have been a better route than reverting. Normally, I'm quite cautious about the 3RR (and am willing to prove that I've specifically avoided violating it in the past if you feel I might be blowing smoke), I do realize that edit warring is disruptive, and I am feeling a bit contrite about having violated it this time. However, despite what FLoA said at the 3RR noticeboard, the reason I have been reverting has been to maintain the page as it was when the discussion started.
Unfortunately however, you protected it after it had been reverted yet again by one of the two users who've been pushing for the inclusion of the material being discussed. If you take a look at this diff, you can see that version I was reverting to was the version as it stood before that specific contentious material was inserted (that material was first inserted here, in which another large chunk of contentious material was also re-inserted). Is is possible to maintain that version until the discussion has concluded? I understand if you have objections to doing something that might be seen as taking sides, I just want to try to get a clearer consensus on what material belongs on the page before it is included. MjolnirPants Tell me all about it. 13:46, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Rose Cocktail
You proposed deletion for the article Rose (cocktail) because you said it was unreferenced for over nine years. There is a link in the side bar part but the link is broken. The correct link is http://iba-world.com/cocktails/rose/ . As you can see from the link it is an IBA official cocktail, but I am not sure if that is enough for the article to remain. 86.158.13.116 (talk) 18:58, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

I have found the drink in two 1920s era cocktail books from Paris and there are also numerous websites that have the cocktail or variations of it listed. It is also an IBA official cocktail but the Cocktail infobox itself seems to be broken and I have no idea how to fix it. In the infobox you are supposed to put the name of the cocktail and then it automatically links to the recipe on the IBA website but the IBA website must have changed the URL format because the links are broken for any cocktail that used the infobox to link to the recipe. 86.158.13.116 (talk) 16:57, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

Your policy of a blanket ban on all archive.is links seems unreasonable
Hi Stifle,
All I have to say on the matter is here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki_talk:Spam-whitelist#http:.2F.2F_archive.is_.2F1aTaF
but I thought I'd leave a message for you, because some of your decisions on that page suggest that you are labouring under the impression that archive.is is a simple URL-shortening service rather than a webpage archiving service. Archive.is URLs are short, yes, but they do host the page in question, not just a URL to the server which originally hosted the content (as do bit.ly et al.)
Kind regards,

FFD
Hi Stife. Thank you for helping to clear the backlog of FFD discussions. There are not many admins working at FFD, and those that are can only do so much. This is just a suggestion, but it might be a good idea to add {{Oldffdfull}} templates to the file talk pages of images that you keep. This provides a link to the relevant discussion to anyone whose interested and it also allows you to provide a brief summary of your close: For example, "keep" for article "A", but remove from article "B". Since WP:NFCR was merged into FFD last fall, FFD now deals with non-free content issues, which may involve a file's usage in multiple articles. WP:PUF has also been merged into FFD, so those discussions are only going to create more options when it comes to closes. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:04, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
closure on List of Cal Fire firefighters AFD
Thank you for your closure and explanation at the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Cal Fire firefighters killed in the line of duty. It's fine by me that you described as "a bit of a mess" because of my move during the AFD, but I wonder if you could clarify there in the AFD itself that it was a "Keep" decision as you posted at the article's Talk page. That would allow the AFDSTATS software and any other automated processes to be able to interpret it as one of the allowed outcomes for an AFD. Or I hope you don't mind if I edit the AFD to insert "Keep but remove list of memorialized persons". Oh, hmm, I see you have a note posted stating that you don't change AFD closures based on talk page requests, but I don't mean this as a change of decision, it's just a clarification. It's no big deal either way, if you don't want it revised.
Also feel free to participate at Talk:California Firefighters Memorial#Memorial list about a list of the persons listed on the memorial can and/or should be included in the article. I recognize that there is wp:NOTMEMORIAL but what that says is "Wikipedia is not the place to memorialize deceased friends, relatives, acquaintances, or others who do not meet such requirements", and that does not rule out including some type of list here, I think. I don't terribly care, myself: I also think that linking to the list of names on an external website can be better, as that will be updated presumably by Cal Fire or whomever. One reason I'll raise it there is to allow the original contributor a chance to discuss it.
Again, thanks for making sense of the AFD. --doncram 22:59, 28 April 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there, I'm not going to endorse your move during the AFD by putting down a keep closure, for the sake of automation. The AFD was a bit of a mess, and I think characterizing it otherwise for that reason wouldn't be right. Stifle (talk) 13:04, 29 April 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Carlos Alberto Cabral
The article Carlos Alberto Cabral has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- The article makes no claim to notability & significant coverage in RS to meet GNG cannot be found. There's a wiki article in Spanish, but it's only marginally longer, with many red links.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. K.e.coffman (talk) 07:33, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Recreating article "Vaidyanathan Ramaswami"
Hi Stifle, Would you please take a look at this improved and substantially different new draft and consider recreating the article "Vaidyanathan Ramaswami". This article had been the subject of a discussion before here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Vaidyanathan_Ramaswami_(3rd_nomination) . As suggested during that discussion by one admin: "as still questionably better for any improvements, best deleted and restarted if better later. SwisterTwister", I have rewritten entirely the article wih better structure and referencing. It is available in my sandbox here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:RoshanKarki123/sandbox . I will be grateful if you would evaluate this draft and consider publishing it on Wikipedia. Thank you for your cooperation. RoshanKarki123 (talk) 13:19, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

UK Border at Marne la Vallée-Chessy
Hello, your edit of the Eurostar article suggests there is no UK border post at Marne la Vallée-Chessy, and that checks take place on arrival at St Pancras.
Are you sure this is currently the case? I called Eurostar and asked, and while they strangely couldn't tell whether there is a UK border post at Marne la Vallée-Chessy, they did say that UK border checks for Eurostar passengers always take place in France or Belgium. I checked the timetable and it's clear you don't get off at Lille (as is the case when travelling on a train from Marseille).
Do you have any recent experience of this? André Devecserii (talk) 20:58, 14 August 2016 (UTC)
- Yes, this was the case last December when I travelled, and I have checked with friends who travelled last month and it remained so. Eurostar does not publicise it in order not to discourage passengers from using the Disneyland direct service, for which they charge a premium fare.
- There are French exit checks and a small plain-clothes UK Border Force contingent at Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy but the formal checks are done on arrival at Ashford International, Ebbsfleet International (where I alighted), and London St. Pancras International. Stifle (talk) 08:49, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- I see, thanks.
- Do you happen to know the situation for the Bourg-st-Maurice route? That one is also unclear, though I've heard that UK officers do perform checks at Bourg-st-Maurice and Moutiers, but that Aime-la-Plagne doesn't have the space for it, hence why only southbound trains stop there. André Devecserii (talk) 18:19, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- Stifle Called the train stations directly. Bourg+Moutiers apparently have Uk posts but not Chessy. Changed the Juxtaposed controls article accordingly André Devecserii (talk) 19:23, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection
Hello, Stifle. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins
Hello,
Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. New deal for page patrollers
Hi Stifle,
In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.
Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.
Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)
A new user right for New Page Patrollers
Hi Stifle.
A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.
It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.
If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!
Hello, Stifle. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi I saw that you tagged for speedy delete A3 the above page. I hesitated because when I read the WP:A3 it says "Similarly, this criterion does not cover a page having only an infobox, unless its contents also meet another speedy deletion criterion" i have been reverted in the past for similar tags and i wanted your advice as an admin as to how this works. thanks --Domdeparis (talk) 14:39, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Talk:Richard Eastell/submission from Professor Eastell requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.shef.ac.uk/humanmetabolism/people/eastell. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hello. You're listed as "Cap" number 52 in this WikiProject. It seems that the Project's talk page is sadly neglected these days. I know little about rugby but have seen how important an active WikiProject is to getting quality information on Wikipedia by helping each other. If you don't mind the nudge (and you may be very active, I've not checked) please pop by the WikiProject talk page from time to time to reply to comments - or start your own. Cheers. --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 00:04, 11 July 2017 (UTC)
It may not be true for all varieties of English, but certainly in Australian English the word "footballer" means "a person who plays any code of football". Hence, Paterson as a rugby player is just as much a footballer as Zinedine Zidane playing the code our news media still obstinately refer to as "soccer". That said, per WP:NRU, the man's still not notable as the Japanese competition in which he has played isn't fully professional, so I'll take it to AfD. You can learn more about the research plan at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial. The exact start date of the experiment has yet to be determined.
- A new speedy deletion criterion, regarding articles created as a result undisclosed paid editing, is currently being discussed (permalink).
- An RfC (permalink) is currently open that proposes expanding WP:G13 to include all drafts, even if they weren't submitted through Articles for Creation.
- LoginNotify should soon be deployed to the English Wikipedia. This will notify users when there are suspicious login attempts on their account.
- The new version of XTools is nearing an official release. This suite of tools includes administrator statistics, an improved edit counter, among other tools that may benefit administrators. You can report issues on Phabricator and provide general feedback at mw:Talk:XTools.

- ACTRIAL, a research experiment that restricts article creation to autoconfirmed users, will begin on September 7. It will run for six months. You can learn more about the research specifics at meta:Research:Autoconfirmed article creation trial, while Wikipedia talk:Autoconfirmed article creation trial is probably the best venue for general discussion.
- Following an RfC, WP:G13 speedy deletion criterion now applies to any page in the draftspace that has not been edited in six months. There is a bot-generated report, updated daily, to help identify potentially qualifying drafts that have not been submitted through articles for creation.
- You will now get a notification when someone tries to log in to your account and fails. If they try from a device that has logged into your account before, you will be notified after five failed attempts. You can also set in your preferences to get an email when someone logs in to your account from a new device or IP address, which may be encouraged for admins and accounts with sensitive permissions.
- Syntax highlighting is now available as a beta feature (more info). This may assist administrators and template editors when dealing with intricate syntax of high-risk templates and system messages.
- In your notification preferences, you can now block specific users from pinging you. This functionality will soon be available for Special:EmailUser as well.
- Applications for CheckUser and Oversight are being accepted by the Arbitration Committee until September 12. Community discussion of the candidates will begin on September 18.
When to remove "This article has multiple issues"?
Hi Stifle. I was doing some research and saw that this article had some issues https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_source_and_information_reliability. I reworded slightly, added some references and a link to another Wikipedia article. How do I know if I can remove the warning at the top of the page "This article has multiple issues"? (You added the warning back in 2010). Stevegon (talk) 21:05, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
- If you think you've adequately solved the issues, you don't need anyone's permission to remove the notice. Stifle (talk) 11:17, 11 September 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey
Hello,
Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.
The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.
To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.
We really appreciate your input!
Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.
- Wikimedians are now invited to vote on the proposals in the 2017 Community Wishlist Survey on Meta Wiki until 10 December 2017. In particular, there is a section of the survey regarding new tools for administrators and for anti-harassment.
- A new function is available to edit filter managers which can be used to store matches from regular expressions.
- Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is open until Sunday 23:59, 10 December 2017 (UTC). There are 12 candidates running for 8 vacant seats.
- Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message
Hello, Stifle. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

- Community ban discussions must now stay open for at least 24 hours prior to being closed.
- A change to the administrator inactivity policy has been proposed. Under the proposal, if an administrator has not used their admin tools for a period of five years and is subsequently desysopped for inactivity, the administrator would have to file a new RfA in order to regain the tools.
- A change to the banning policy has been proposed which would specify conditions under which a repeat sockmaster may be considered de facto banned, reducing the need to start a community ban discussion for these users.
- CheckUsers are now able to view private data such as IP addresses from the edit filter log, e.g. when the filter prevents a user from creating an account. Previously, this information was unavailable to CheckUsers because access to it could not be logged.

- Editors who have been found to have engaged in sockpuppetry on at least two occasions after an initial indefinite block, for whatever reason, are now automatically considered banned by the community without the need to start a ban discussion.
- The notability guideline for organizations and companies has been substantially rewritten following the closure of this request for comment. Among the changes, the guideline more clearly defines the sourcing requirements needed for organizations and companies to be considered notable.
- The six-month autoconfirmed article creation trial (ACTRIAL) ended on 14 March 2018. The post-trial research report has been published. A request for comment is now underway to determine whether the restrictions from ACTRIAL should be implemented permanently.
- There will soon be a calendar widget at Special:Block, making it easier to set expiries for a specific date and time.
- The Arbitration Committee is considering a change to the discretionary sanctions procedures which would require an editor to appeal a sanction to the community at WP:AE or WP:AN prior to appealing directly to the Arbitration Committee at WP:ARCA.
- A discussion has closed which concluded that administrators are not required to enable email, though many editors suggested doing so as a matter of best practice.
- The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team has released the Interaction Timeline. This shows a chronologic history for two users on pages where they have both made edits, which may be helpful in identifying sockpuppetry and investigating editing disputes.

- Starting on July 9, the WMF Security team, Trust & Safety, and the broader technical community will be seeking input on an upcoming change that will restrict editing of site-wide JavaScript and CSS to a new technical administrators user group. Bureaucrats and stewards will be able to grant this right per a community-defined process. The intention is to reduce the number of accounts who can edit frontend code to those who actually need to, which in turn lessens the risk of malicious code being added that compromises the security and privacy of everyone who accesses Wikipedia. For more information, please review the FAQ.
- Syntax highlighting has been graduated from a Beta feature on the English Wikipedia. - After a discussion at Meta, a new user group called "interface administrators" (formerly "technical administrator") has been created. Come the end of August, interface admins will be the only users able to edit site-wide JavaScript and CSS pages like MediaWiki:Common.js and MediaWiki:Common.css, or edit other user's personal JavaScript and CSS. The intention is to improve security and privacy by reducing the number of accounts which could be used to compromise the site or another user's account through malicious code. The new user group can be assigned and revoked by bureaucrats. Discussion is ongoing to establish details for implementing the group on the English Wikipedia.
- Following a request for comment, the WP:SISTER style guideline now states that in the mainspace, interwiki links to Wikinews should only be made as per the external links guideline. This generally means that within the body of an article, you should not link to Wikinews about a particular event that is only a part of the larger topic. Wikinews links in "external links" sections can be used where helpful, but not automatically if an equivalent article from a reliable news outlet could be linked in the same manner.
- The WMF Anti-Harassment Tools team is seeking input on the second set of wireframes for the Special:Block redesign that will introduce partial blocks. The new functionality will allow you to block a user from editing a specific set of pages, pages in a category, a namespace, and for specific actions such as moving pages and uploading files.

Undeletion Discussion
Hi Stifle,
I was about to add a new page and I noticed that it had been deleted before here: [5]. I have read the comments and agree with the deletion at the time. This building is now virtually complete and will be placed in service early next year. I think now that it is a real building which is substantially complete, it might be time to reconsider undeleting the page. I have read some of the Deletion Review page and your FAQ and WP:REFUND to figure out how best to start this process, and it seems I should start here. [6] Here is a link to more information about the status of the temple. Sorry my wiki markup isn't very good, it has been a while since I did anything complicated that I couldn't copy or mimic :) Glennfcowan (talk) 03:03, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
- Haha, see I told you I was out of practice. Here is the original link to the deletion decision: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Kinshasa_Democratic_Republic_of_the_Congo_Temple Thank you! Glennfcowan (talk) 03:07, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
- If you have overcome the reason for deletion you can simply recreate the article in place. Stifle (talk) 14:23, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

- There is an open request for comment on Meta regarding the creation a new user group for global edit filter management.
- Partial blocks should be available for testing in October on the Test Wikipedia and the Beta-Cluster. This new feature allows admins to block users from editing specific pages and in the near-future, namespaces and uploading files. You can expect more updates and an invitation to help with testing once it is available.
- The Foundations' Anti-Harassment Tools team is currently looking for input on how to measure the effectiveness of blocks. This is in particular related to how they will measure the success of the aforementioned partial blocks.
- Because of a data centre test, you will be able to read but not edit the Wikimedia projects for up to an hour on 10 October. This will start at 14:00 (UTC). You might lose edits if you try to save during this time.
- The Arbitration Committee has, by motion, amended the procedure on functionary inactivity.
- The community consultation for 2018 CheckUser and Oversight appointments has concluded. Appointments will be made by October 11.
- Following a request for comment, the size of the Arbitration Committee will be decreased to 13 arbitrators, starting in 2019. Additionally, the minimum support percentage required to be appointed to a two-year term on ArbCom has been increased to 60%. ArbCom candidates who receive between 50% and 60% support will be appointed to one-year terms instead.
- Nominations for the 2018 Arbitration Committee Electoral Commission are being accepted until 12 October. These are the editors who help run the ArbCom election smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering for this role, please consider nominating yourself.
Administrators' newsletter – November 2018
News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2018).
- A request for comment determined that non-administrators will not be able to request interface admin access.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether the Mediation Committee should be closed and marked as historical.
- A village pump discussion has been ongoing about whether the proposed deletion policy (PROD) should be clarified or amended.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether pending changes protection should be applied automatically to today's featured article (TFA) in order to mitigate a recent trend of severe image vandalism.
- Partial blocks is now available for testing on the Test Wikipedia. The new functionality allows you to block users from editing specific pages. Bugs may exist and can be reported on the local talk page or on Meta. A discussion regarding deployment to English Wikipedia will be started by community liaisons sometime in the near future.
- A user script is now available to quickly review unblock requests.
- The 2019 Community Wishlist Survey is now accepting new proposals until November 11, 2018. The results of this survey will determine what software the Wikimedia Foundation's Community Tech team will work on next year. Voting on the proposals will take place from November 16 to November 30, 2018. Specifically, there is a proposal category for admins and stewards that may be of interest.
- Eligible editors will be invited to nominate themselves as candidates in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections starting on November 4 until November 13. Voting will begin on November 19 and last until December 2.
- The Arbitration Committee's email address has changed to arbcom-enwikimedia.org. Other email lists, such as functionaries-en and clerks-l, remain unchanged.
Change in user rights?
I don't know what you are doing here [7] but I do not show "poor judgement in accepting copyvio". My User:Legacypac/CSD_log confirms I find and delete a lot of copyvio. My Move log shows only 3-4 out of my last 1000 moves have been deleted as copyvio, which is a very good record. We all miss the occasional copyvio because it is hard to find. You just smeared me without evidence or discussion in the PERM log and if there is any way to remove that comment I urge you to remove or edit it to show it was an error. Legacypac (talk) 19:03, 12 November 2018 (UTC)
- I already readded the permission saying it was not what I intended to do. If that's not satisfactory then as logs cannot be edited or deleted I guess I could remove and re-add the permission again with another comment such as "previous permission removal was entirely in error and should be disregarded". Stifle (talk) 17:32, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- I'd appreciate that. I'm a little sensitive as this kind of thing has been used against me by Admins. Legacypac (talk) 21:41, 14 November 2018 (UTC)
- Done Stifle (talk) 09:25, 15 November 2018 (UTC)
- I saw that on my watchlist and was pretty surprised especially as there was nothing on Legacypac's talk page. Good to see it was simply an error especially as I don't think there are any special rights to have access to the Afc tool just a decision by an admin to add it. ArbCom 2018 election voter message
Hello, Stifle. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Interface administrator changes
- Following a request for comment, the Mediation Committee is now closed and will no longer be accepting case requests.
- A request for comment is in progress to determine whether members of the Bot Approvals Group should satisfy activity requirements in order to remain in that role.
- A request for comment is in progress regarding whether to change the administrator inactivity policy, such that administrators "who have made no logged administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped". Currently, the policy states that administrators "who have made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least 12 months may be desysopped".
- A proposal has been made to temporarily restrict editing of the Main Page to interface administrators in order to mitigate the impact of compromised accounts.
- Administrators and bureaucrats can no longer unblock themselves unless they placed the block initially. This change has been implemented globally. See also this ongoing village pump discussion (permalink).
- To complement the aforementioned change, blocked administrators will soon have the ability to block the administrator that placed their block to mitigate the possibility of a compromised administrator account blocking all other active administrators.
- Since deployment of Partial blocks on Test Wikipedia, several bugs were identified. Most of them are now fixed. Administrators are encouraged to test the new deployment and report new bugs on Phabricator or leave feedback on the Project's talk page. You can request administrator access on the Test Wiki here.
- Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee Elections is open to eligible editors until Monday 23:59, 3 December 2018. Please review the candidates and, if you wish to do so, submit your choices on the voting page.
- In late November, an attacker compromised multiple accounts, including at least four administrator accounts, and used them to vandalize Wikipedia. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. Sharing the same password across multiple websites makes your account vulnerable, especially if your password was used on a website that suffered a data breach. As these incidents have shown, these concerns are not pure fantasies.
- Wikipedia policy requires administrators to have strong passwords. To further reinforce security, administrators should also consider enabling two-factor authentication. A committed identity can be used to verify that you are the true account owner in the event that your account is compromised and/or you are unable to log in.
- Shock Brigade Harvester Boris (Raymond Arritt) passed away on 14 November 2018. Boris joined Wikipedia as Raymond arritt on 8 May 2006 and was an administrator from 30 July 2007 to 2 June 2008.
