Relation between Hathigumpha inscription and Ancient Tamil Nadu

[edit]

Before you do any modification in an article better read details and know the fact and add information. Adding absurd think which has no link with one article is stupidity and proves how immature you on knowledge are.I have removed Ancient Tamil Nadu from category list of article Hathigumpha inscription and put History of Odisha instead.User:diptiprakashpalai

Edits around Udaipur Topics

[edit]

Hi,
I noticed your edits regarding the articles about Udaipur, including new categories Category:Buildings and structures in Udaipur and Category:Sport in Udaipur. I also believe that such updates will move the topic towards better categorization, so thanks for doing this. To fasten up the process, we might refer to the Udaipur Template. Each row in this template might correspond to a category, so we might require categories for few other rows like culture. Also, we might need to create articles for several other topics about Udaipur (like Swaroopsagar Lake), which are still missing on Wikipedia. Hoping for a good helping hand on that front as well. Preventing possible vandalism of content in the article

[edit]

Hi Shyamsunder,

In the National Herald Case, here the duplicate and unnecessary content has been added by the user "Rao_Ravindra" who is going in edit war, old content deleted without any proper reason. It seems that the media highlights of the case in India makes it bit sensitive. I and user "Capankajsmilyo" have been able to restore the content as much as possible but again the same issue. My request is that please look into the unnecessary edits going on ASAP and if possible add to it "semi-protected" sort of mode for a particular time to prevent it from vandalism. I had contacted others editors, but i didn't get any response.

Almost all of the text in the article was a copyright violation, taken from various different websites without permission. I can not overstress this; you do not have permission to take materials from other websites and post them here. This is quite serious, and continued breaches of this will likely result in your being blocked. I've reviewed some of your other article contributions and have found a troubling trend here. Wheat industry - is not necessarily anything to do with the wheat category - wheat as a category does not necessarily = the industry in australia, literal interpretation of an article title and a corresponding category is not necessarily how the most appropriate categories are allocated JarrahTree 14:12, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Suburbs of Perth as part of economy?

[edit]

Sorry, you have lost me completely - I fail to see how a suburb with a range of activities and functions actually is part of the economy of Perth - please explain JarrahTree 08:29, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JarrahTree, I read the following on Welshpool, Western Australia page." The area is considered to be one of the main industrial areas of Perth, along with Kewdale, Kwinana, Henderson, Malaga, O'Connor, Canning Vale and Osborne Park".If any suburb named here is not industrial area of Perth please fee free to undo my edit(s).Shyamsunder (talk) 11:47, 2 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Also 'economics' attached to 'activities' in Australia - categories and project tags can be very overdone, there are some classic examples where editors add almost every conceivable category or project tag, and it shows up as 'over-associating' and hardly a balanced understanding of a subject - I am not saying you have got to that point, but you have to be very aware that some 'readings' of meaning and context require a very judicious balance between over-done and adequate coverage / spread - it is not every editors judgement, but between the category creator and the potential CFD - where a word or meaning needs to be considered carefully. I cannot claim to have achieved it in my edits, but ... for a start I would never trust an articles content as a full guide without knowing it first in real life - (as in your reply above) the opportunity for mis-inertpretation is ripe... I should have asked more clearly, maybe the US https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Geology_of_the_United_States or one of the south american projects https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Geology_of_Argentina would be better removed and to see what happens there -

ok my bad :( - apologies for the intrusion - they all do it JarrahTree 11:44, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

your edits literally fill my watch page as I see you doing a very good job (so few eds seem interested in getting categories fixed from a proactive perspective) however every now and then some jump out at me and I think, oh hell do I need to query that one or not?

Hotels as residential? A region of Western Australia as an organisation?

Otherwise keep up the good work! At least somebody is doing what so few seem interested in ! JarrahTree 02:31, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I have undone my edit now. Thanks for the note. Shyamsunder (talk) 02:34, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No problems - some of the items make me very reluctant to point some out, as there can always be a 'grey line' on some things, and the last thing I want to do is be 'pedantic' and 'rules' oriented - there really are some things that can be left, as the bulk of your work is something the project has been needing for ages, dont let me stand in the way of good well thought out and definite improvements :) JarrahTree 02:43, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you JarrahTree for appreciation. Shyamsunder (talk) 02:45, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
damn damn damn - I have been very rude to editors over this one - always non-native speakers do this - accommodation has no plural form!!! I have heard polish people, and other eastern europeans always add the 's' - accommodation is the same singular or plural... damm damm damm

please dont take personally - please leave as is - I have checked wiktionary and they claim it is valid (with no back up) - there seems to be a derived form supposedly from french - but in my english dictionaries ( checked 3) there is no sign of the usage... why it is annoying/damm is that the process of challenging validity in wiktionary and here in wp en is time consuming and soul destroying... not sure I want to challenge something like that at the moment it gets in the way of editing and so on... please dont take personally - leave as is... JarrahTree 03:02, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

grrr - it gets worse - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2013_February_17#Category:Tourist_accommodations a very very unsatisfying discussion - where there is no clear resolution of common sense in the argument, despite the numbers JarrahTree 03:14, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
lost cause...checked with someone who should know from the us - not a brit or oz engvar - but an american usage... sigh JarrahTree 03:42, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I did not think about that before creating the category. I just copied from "Tourist accommodations in the United States" . I have no issue if it gets corrected . Further I may make errors while ctaegorising articles . Please feel free to revert .Shyamsunder (talk) 04:07, 9 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not your problem - taking the precedence from the states is vital for consistency across the whole project - nay flaying myself with irritation that the us usage got through on the cfd four years ago or whenever - it is not universal usage across all varieties of english. sorry I use your talk page as my worry bead/board. state government instrumentalities

[edit]

even though they have the word in their titles - they really are agencies that deal with protected areas/national parks - parks without a qualifier tend to be man made or urban oriented - national parks and the agencies that deal with them may have the word park - but double check i think you will find national parks and reserves a better clump of terms to check JarrahTree 12:41, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

fremantle railway workshops

[edit]

If the workshops still existed, maybe the cat your added, but there is nothing residual on the area where it was until 1904, actually still existing - until the category has text saying extant and demolished structures, I would be reluctant to let the category sit there JarrahTree 10:42, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

very high powered government authority/instrumentality - NOT an organisation... Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority JarrahTree 12:50, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tense - you seem to have a problem with tense - the perth cable car is not current transport - it is a stalled proposal, there should be somewhere on wp en a category for proposed australian transport ideas - where the cable car ideas that are stalled might fit(there is also one for mount wellington hobart tasmania) - very bad idea to have proposed transport items as being in transport - I am sure there are cats for proposed items... somewhere JarrahTree 13:33, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

How moving a Perth related article from the state category to the same category Perth city category tree is taken as my problem with tense.Shyamsunder (talk) 13:38, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Perth Cable Car and the Mount Wellington Car are proposed transport items - they dont exist - seeing how adventurous you are with categories and their utilisation - Id have thought you might have understood what I was on about and looked for planned transport projects in australia or created it (I am sure there are such cats in other countries)

I had suggested that the fremantle railway workshop as a 1904 item that doesnt fit into current category, and the two items - things that do not exist being in categories that imply current existence - that is my thing about tense - non existing items either long gone or not appeared yet - nothing to do whether the actual edit you did - more trying to drop a hint than a specific reference to specific edit JarrahTree 13:46, 20 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

categories

[edit]

Ok so youre enthusiastic and that is good!

but when I see the items in economic history of tasmania, I am concerned...

economy of tasmania already has sub-categories - and some of the items in the econ history category already exist in the economy of tasmania

there is nothing in the category space to identify why and how the items chosen for econ history are there, if they already in the economy of tasmania

it may make sense to you, but for me it seems there is no qualifying aspect that leads to be added to the econ history

is there something in the article to say that it was a significant notable positive contributor to van diemans land, or tasmanian economy?

if it seems that way to you - fine... and although i am not going to change it - your removal of history from the great western railway article makes me wonder as well - it was a notable failed proposal - and had a significant presence in the minds of people concerned to link the mining activity of the west coast - as a consequence - it was of historic significance. It is a pity I seem to have to query every xth creation, but it suggests to me you need to read the articles a bit more closely as you allocate categories JarrahTree 10:19, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

slippery slope

[edit]

also, when you create 'banking in tasmania', precedence says you really should have a similar category for each state for balance - but there is already 'banks' by state already, so the extra by state 'banking' category should in practice have over 10 or more components to it to be a viable category - but it is hard to have even 5 in the 'bank' or 'banking' category for tasmania (from knowledge of that sector in that state) - so there is the question - can the larger banking in australia adequately cover things without state subcats?

the slippery slope is the issue of creating categories that remain small due to the historical fact there were only so many banks in australian history - the state separation into banks, and banking might not just be necessay, really,... JarrahTree 10:29, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I did not create it. I only categorised it.Shyamsunder (talk) 10:30, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
fair enough, np - maybe the usual suspects wont trip over it and want to revert back to a single banking in australia cat - there is always that chance, but in the circumstance - dont worry abut my obersvation, that is all it is... JarrahTree 10:41, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
hahaha - have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Banking_in_Tasmania&action=history - it probably should be deleted - I think the creator thought Tasmania was a separate country :) - there are no other categories in banking in australia against a state - JarrahTree 10:45, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed.Shyamsunder (talk) 10:47, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Categories

I would strongly advise a very careful read of anything about categories - grain trade and specific parts of australia grain industry - short of creating parallel category trees (some think they are OK I do not) - you are adding things that dont belong - grain industry of australia should be the only one - the component sub categories do not belong as well JarrahTree 11:11, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

'bound/defined' vs open and global

[edit]

In the Australian project there are qualifying things like states - which define where things are. By going into the 'unbound' city categories you are placing australian items into more global in almost every case very under-developed global unbound categories. In the united states where the 51 qualifying states - such categories are hardly if ever used... I would like in the most WP:AGF way ask you to stop creating further global by city categories for australian subjects - as they are of no practical use to anyone. A lot of people understand categories as ways to locate things - 'by city' with no state or country bounds is really unhelpful JarrahTree 10:19, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

which one you are talking about.Shyamsunder (talk) 10:21, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok got it. Will undo the edit .Shyamsunder (talk) 10:23, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
no hang on - I am just concerned when you create un-defined city items - it is not as defined; 'in australia' they are fine... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Office_buildings_by_city - is a very limited and messy little collection - always better to have in australia for limits and to keep away from the very undeveloped things..
But hey no one else seems to be much bothered in the areas you are improving - however I am impressed - you must some day learn to do project tagging on talk pages - many have inadequate qualification of states - NSW and VIC very much so are just 'Australia' - anyways keep up the good work!!JarrahTree 10:26, 11 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Shyamsunder. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I recently sent you an invitation to join NPP, but you also might be the right candidate for another related project, AfC, which is also extremely backlogged.

Category:Telecommunications regulatory authorities has been nominated for discussion

[edit]

Category:Telecommunications regulatory authorities, which you created, has been nominated for possible deletion, merging, or renaming. A discussion is taking place to see if it abides with the categorization guidelines. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments at the category's entry on the categories for discussion page. Thank you. Rathfelder (talk) 19:26, 18 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The article Vithal Chavan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

95% of this article is completely unsourced. The two sources offered briefly mention Chavan as being an MLA for the far-right regional party Shiv Sena and a "strongman". I could only find one more source by googling, https://www.countercurrents.org/sharan251010.htm, which also mentions Chavan (in passing) as an MLA for Shiv Sena and a mobster. No depth of coverage whatever anywhere, as per WP:BASIC. Bishonen | talk 21:54, 6 March 2018 (UTC).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. (I must say I do appreciate that you actually entered into conversations sometime some time ago) but the land management attribution to the former department in western australia is wrong. Nuances of english clearly still miss out with your categories, but well done for the hard work you put in any way - cheers If you want an explanation about the differences and th enuances, I can give it if you so wish JarrahTree 11:58, 3 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
