ARSbot

[edit]

User:ARSBot doesn't seem to be working. Is there something that needs to be fixed? -- Banjeboi 02:09, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK, it looks like it was instead an open reference which masked all the other entries. This then would be a bug instead. Is there a way to address that? -- Banjeboi 00:28, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Of course. I'll throw a thingy into the bot to tell it to terminate the summary any time it sees a < . --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹoɟʇs(st47) 01:37, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Coolio. Thank you! -- Banjeboi 16:35, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Article Rescue Barnstar
I hereby award you the Article Rescue Barnstar for your exceptional - and wonky - contribution of the ARSbot which has made rescuing articles much easier for the editors working in this valuable field of service to the Wikipedia community. Please keep this on your wall of honor and dust it regularly knowing that the silent majority will never know how much you have helped but appreciate your work all the same as we share vast sums of human knowledge freely and often with style. -- Banjeboi 16:39, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CSD Warn Bot too quick !!

[edit]

Hi. I was attempting to go through the CSD procedure for an article, and had placed the 'db-xxxx' tag on the article. I had just placed the warning notice on the authors talk page, when I was informed of an edit conflict as your bot had added a warning for me. I'm not using Twinkle or any automated process, so it's slower, but the delay between tagging the article itself and getting the edit conflict was < 30 seconds. This then leads me to a problem - do I just stop adding messages to a user's talk page because the bot will tag them ? If there's any possibility that the bot may not catch the article (or not in a reasonable time), then I should, but obviously I don't want to go throught he process if it's being made redundant by the bot. Any thoughts ? CultureDrone (talk) 08:16, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bot runs every 30 minutes or so. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹoɟʇs(st47) 11:39, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Starlims Page you commented about

[edit]

I wrote a comment as instructed on the Starlims page. Just wanted to make sure you see it and hopefully you can help me in some way. Here is what I wrote in response to your comment:

Yes, I did write this page on behalf of Starlims. Starlims is a Nasdaq traded company and I believe that this by itself warrants a Wikipedia presence. This article is written in a very impartial manner. I intend to write more pages for Wikipedia that are unrelated to Starlims. Choosing the user name Starlims was just pure inexperience on my part. I thought it would be symbolic to use this user name so I can always remember the first post I wrote. Please remove the warnings on the page or advise otherwise. I only have good intentions and understand very well the concept and the importance of Wikipedia. Thanks... --Starlims (talk) 14:11, 6 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editnotice

[edit]

I've moved your Editnotice from MediaWiki:Editnotice-3-ST47 to User talk:ST47/Editnotice. In the User: and User_talk: namespaces a special subpage /Editnotice (case sensitive) can be used instead of filling up the mediawiki space. I've left this page full protected, but you may want to remove that if you don't think it will be a vandal target. Thank you, — xaosflux Talk 03:46, 14 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CSDWarnBot destroyed existing talk page comments

[edit]

In this edit, it seems to have replaced the page with the warning instead of adding the warning to the page.—Kww(talk) 20:42, 15 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CSDWarnBot image size issue

[edit]

It missed the size parameter, causing the image to be (by default) displayed at 620px × 620px. Any ideas? neuro(talk) 15:45, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a thought....

[edit]

I noticed that your bot's talk page notice includes a link to WP:WMD and I got to thinking that new users might think that means "weapons of mass destruction" (what "WMD" normally stands for off-wiki). Perhaps it would be wise to have it link to WP:WWMPD instead? It's not a big deal, but I think it may cause some unnecessary confusion to new users. (on the other hand, maybe they'll be more likely actually read the page thinking there's some way they can retaliate to whoever deleted their page. hmm... :P ) Thingg 03:49, 20 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch, I've changed the link. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹoɟʇs(st47) 02:27, 21 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom vote

[edit]

I checked my edit numbers before I voted on the checker provided and it said I had enough before the appropriate date to vote. Please check again. If that checker is providing erroneous information, it should be removed. Mervyn Emrys (talk) 23:22, 1 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The checker is actually worthless - it tells you your edits to date, the requirement is to have 150 by november 1st. ST47 (talk) 00:29, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ST47, can you please check again? I went in and checked the contribs of Mervyn Emrys (talk · contribs) by hand, and by my count, he does meet the standard, with 208 edits prior to November 1st. Is it only counting certain namespaces? --Elonka 03:33, 2 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Report request

[edit]

Hi ST47, among all the wonderful data-gathering tools that you have, do you have anything that could issue a report on "inactive" voters who just emerged to vote in the elections? There's currently a discussion at WP:AN about some editors who emerged from mothballs (one who had been inactive for over a year!) just to vote, and there are concerns about canvassing and sockpuppetry. It would be really helpful if we could see a report that showed of all the voters, which ones hadn't participated anywhere else on the project in months, and where those voters were voting. Can you think of any easy way to present that data? Thanks, --Elonka 04:17, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was looking at this yesterday and I think it should be possible. Bot's running right now to get the data, I'mm post it once it's done. ST47 (talk) 11:29, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm getting anecdotal evidence that the above list isn't quite complete. For example, it didn't catch:

Both of those users have since had their votes removed, and were not checked. ST47 (talk) 20:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, well would it be possible to get the report of anyone who's even trying to vote? Image request

[edit]

Hi, it's me again.  :) On your fantastic graph Image:ACE2008.jpg, which I am now using on my User:Elonka/ACE2008 page, I see that Caspian Blue at one point uploaded a slightly different version that had bolder colors, and also lined up the names with the actual lines.[3] Would this be easy for you to emulate, or if we want those colors, would it be something that Caspian needs to do manually each time? --Elonka 18:13, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not something I can easily do. ST47 (talk) 18:57, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

indenting

Feature request for CSDWarnBot

[edit]

CSDWarnBot just edited my talk page with a deletion tag warning, and that is fine - it was very useful :-). It would be better if the edit summary included a link to the section created (a "→") so users can quickly navigate to the section created.

On another issue, I don't really understand your comment on this talk page "ATTENTION! IF YOU ARE REPORTING AN ISSUE WITH ONE OF MY BOTS... Visit /dev/null...Don't come back." If you mean you don't care/want comments on bots, you could possibly make that more explicit, or direct people to a subpage where others, like me, will help answer questions for you.--Commander Keane (talk) 09:07, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:ArbCom vote

Hi - thanks for the notice. I had registered on October 18, but misunderstood the second criteria. Thanks for making the correction, Shiva (Visnu) 17:50, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Missing candidate

[edit]

I think you've missed a candidate off the 13:31, 6 December 2008 version of Image:ACE2008.jpg. Carcharoth (talk) 18:54, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, a few have dropped off. It used to be showing 12 candidates, but now it's only showing 10. I'd thought it was the "top" 10 candidates, but it's not listing Jayvdb (talk · contribs) at all, and he's currently at #8 according to your other data. --Elonka 18:58, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd. I'll fix it when I update the graph, which I shall do now. ST47 (talk) 01:35, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Graph colors

[edit]

Hello, ST47. Thank you for sharing the good info with the community, but could you use bolder colors than the current neutral colors in order to clearly distinguish candidates? Thanks.--Caspian blue 02:25, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, that's not really possible with ms excel without manually changing every candidate's color every time, which is annoying. ST47 (talk) 02:41, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Would it be possible to publish the data you use to generate the chart? That would allow others to fiddle with the colours if they wanted to. It's getting the data from the bot-updated pages that is difficult for most people. Once they have the basic data, most people can fiddle in Excel to their heart's content. Carcharoth (talk) 14:52, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
User:ST47/ACEraw. 340 kB, tab-separated. ST47 (talk) 15:18, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Wouldn't be right for me to do a graph, but I hope someone else does, and that you keep updating your one if no-one else does one in customised colours. I have seen other requests for stats, but some are purely for my own interest, so I'll do those myself. Carcharoth (talk) 17:31, 7 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Updated again. ST47 (talk) 02:46, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Arbcom voting table

[edit]

Hi ST, thanks for taking the trouble to design a table for the election.

I'm just wondering though, is there any reason why the table listing defaults to percentages rather than aggregate votes? If I'm not mistaken, Jimbo's usual practice is to promote those users who get the most aggregate votes, in which case (for example) Vassyana will miss out, since although he has a better percentage his aggregate is well below that of some other candidates. Gatoclass (talk) 05:38, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I believe he said he'll look at both, but (discussions from WT:ACE support this) in the past appointments have been the top people by %. ST47 (talk) 11:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
WT:ACE2008 discussions include this one about this very issue. Carcharoth (talk) 01:33, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
IMO net support is a better yardstick, and I've added my opinion in that regard to the thread in question. Gatoclass (talk) 09:11, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ST47's email address?

[edit]

Hiya. I've an email thread sitting in my inbox that I want to forward to you. Could you drop a note to agkwiki@gmail.com to allow me to add your address to my contacts list, and subsequently send you the thread?

The matter is regarding Mervyn_Emrys (talk · contribs), an editor who has voted but has no suffrage; only some of his votes have been indented, and I was hoping you could nuke his contributions with your vote delisting tool

Thanks, AGK 16:46, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ALL of his votes were indented before he continued his reign of disruption earlier today, which should have earned him a preventative block before he managed to disrupt another 4 candidacies by posting his votes there. I've sen my script after them AGAIN and will leave a talk message. You can email me at EN.WP.ST47@gmail.com. ST47 (talk) 19:24, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Great; thanks for your assistance.
Will load you onto my contacts list in the event that I am ever in need of your polymathic knowledge and technical wizardry. ;-)
AGK 19:39, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
To be clear, I have been actively encouraging Mervyn Emrys (talk · contribs) to put comments on the vote pages, since that was my understanding of the compromise at WT:ACE2008. He knows that his votes don't count numerically, but his commentary is still allowed. Let's not accuse him of being disruptive. --Elonka 19:46, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And I'm asking him to add a #: so that other people don't have to go around cleaning up after him. He knows they don't count numerically, so he shouldn't be having them counted. ST47 (talk) 19:58, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Isn't it kind of extreme to threaten a new editor with a block, because he's using a "#" instead of "#:"? Let's just indent for him and not worry about it. --Elonka 20:02, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please see comments of UltraExactZZ on Eligibility at ACE2008, and stop threatening me. Mervyn Emrys (talk) 20:24, 10 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have something similar here. Do I have your permission to carry on with it? --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 13:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why would you need my permission? ST47 (talk) 13:49, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to be accused of plagiarism. --Dylan620 Contribs Sign! 13:51, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it... ST47 (talk) 14:06, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The bot-generated report

[edit]

I left a comment at User talk:ST47/ACEE. My comment on the main page got wiped out by the update. I think some of them could be easily fixed - eg. add a link to Rspeer's user page for the one that appears to have no user. Carcharoth (talk) 18:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OTOH, in fixing my additions of newlines, as, e.g., here—they followed from some less-than-careful copy-and-pasting, and I thank you for paying more attention than did I—you called me by my name; surliness is, I don't think you'd mind my saying, a quality that has been imputed to you from time to time, and I must confess that I was a bit disappointed to find that you didn't call me an idiot. Re your block of Judyrenouf

[edit]

Hey ST47, User talk:Judyrenouf has appealed your block of her and I'm rather confused by what has happened there and why she has been blocked. I see she had several "vandal" warnings on her page which she says she didn't see them until after she was blocked, but I really don't understand why her edits were deemed "vandalism" in the first place, ie "intentional unconstructive edits" and I was hoping you could explain? She has a conflict of interest but I believe she is well intentioned. I don't think those edits were vandalism as defined by policy and I would like to unblock her under an agreement that she will abide by COI and discuss her edits with other users as necessary. I also don't understand why you disabled her ability to edit her own talk page? I would appreciate your advice on this matter. Cheers, Sarah 02:22, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just to let you know, I've unblocked Judyrenouf. It seems rather apparent that there has been some misunderstandings and I think it's probably best for all concerned if I simply unblock her and give her some careful guidance rather than take it to ANi or whatever. talkin' to a bot...

[edit]

Your bot took a dump on my talk, and although I thoroughly enjoy talking to a bot... Anyway, the page ref'd wasn't my page - I'm the one who reverted the vandal move and left the stupid redir there so the vandal couldn't repeat the nonsense w/out getting it deleted. I don't give a rip about that redir - just thought you might educate your bot 'bout leaving a dump on admin talk pages. Am I grippin', naw, keep up the good work. Merry Christmas!
ST47, here's hoping you're having a wonderful Christmas, and here's also hoping that all your family and friends are well. Lets all hope that the year coming will be a good one! If we've had disputes in the past, I hold no grudges, especially at such a time as this. If you don't know I am, I apologise, feel free to remove this from your page.
Come and say hi, I won't bite, I swear! It could even be good for me, you know - I'm feeling a little down at the moment with all of these snowmen giving me the cold shoulder :(

There are a large number of Bambifan101 talk talk pages that need to be deleted for the same reason as the user talk pages you're deleting now. Please consider this. 68.220.175.142 (talk) 01:24, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Having finally finished my pass, it's time for bed, but I will have a look at those in the morning. Thanks! ST47 (talk) 02:16, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Would it be possible to add a {{NOINDEX}} and an explanation of the page's purpose at the top, or could it cause problems for the bot? —Snigbrook 16:28, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That could not cause any problems, the bot would simply overwrite it the next time it saved a dump. ST47 (talk) 18:19, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, then it wouldn't be very helpful, would it? —David Levy 22:04, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That was my point. ST47 (talk) 23:10, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What is this page? Gwen Gale (talk) 21:42, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I, too, came here to ask what this page is and why my user name appears on it (which I was just advised of by an anonymous editor). I see no explanation on your bot's user and talk pages. —David Levy 22:04, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I see that DragonflySixtyseven just moved the page to User:STBotI/LEFT-NOTE-FOR-USER. Am I to understand that you (via your bot) have been deeming someone a "bad user" whenever your bot has notified that individual of an image that wasn't properly tagged?
Incidentally, the notification that I received was invalid; it pertained to a Wikimedia logo (properly tagged with Template:Non-free Wikimedia logo, protected and used on the main page), which obviously does not require a fair use rationale. —David Levy 22:20, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:STBotI/BADUSER is still up (I think because the bot updated it). Gwen Gale (talk) 22:25, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DragonflySixtyseven reverted the data dump. It seems to me that the redirect should be deleted (so that it eventually will stop appearing via search engines) and protected against creation (to prevent the bot from recreating it while we wait for its code to be updated). —David Levy 22:43, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've done so. If anyone feels that these actions were inappropriate for any reason, please feel free to undo them or request that they be undone. —David Levy 22:47, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You all couldn't manage to wait for 50 minutes for me to get back online before you moved the page, twice, and deleted it, and blocked the bot for doing its job? ST47 (talk) 23:10, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

1. I see that you referred to our (or possibly just my) actions as "vandalism" in the [permanent and public] page restoration log. Does that stem from the same assumption of bad faith that led you to publicly label numerous users (including me) "bad"?
2. I don't see a second page move (aside from yours).
3. I wasn't aware that DragonflySixtyseven had blocked the bot. While I viewed deletion/protection of the redirect as a better solution (because I didn't want the bot's other tasks to be interrupted), I see no justification for the above indignation. After all, your bot was essentially defaming editors.
4. You haven't re-deleted the User:STBotI/BADUSER redirect, which will continue to appear via search engines (thereby implying that the users listed are "bad"). I would re-delete it myself, but I don't want to be accused of further "vandalism." —David Levy 23:26, 27 December 2008 (UTC)r[reply]
The redirect needs to stay until code changes are allowed to propagate. If I have not deleted it within a week, you may feel free to remind me then. ST47 (talk) 23:36, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Now can you please explain...
  • ...why you used that page title in the first place?
  • ...why you labeled my intervention (a good-faith attempt to halt the above incident in a manner that would prevent your bot from being blocked) "vandalism" in a permanent, public log? —David Levy 23:47, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That page title was used because the page was the data dump file for the badusers subroutine, which identifies potential malicious or clueless uploaders (those who have been warned by the bot more than 10 times, and are listed there with a number greater than 10 next to their name) and reports them to an IRC channel. It is also used for customised warnings every 5 uploads or so reminding the user that they might be blocked if they cause too much of a ruckus. ST47 (talk) 00:20, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And it didn't occur to you that this would result in all of the listed account names (irrespective of how many times warnings had been issued) appearing on a public page (likely to turn up via Google searches and the like) that appeared to label the associated editors "bad users" (without any explanation)?
This leads me to the question of why you used that name for the subroutine. Do you really believe that it's reasonable to label a user "bad" because a [fallible] bot has warned him/her more than ten times? And why is the user then reported to an IRC channel (instead of an on-wiki page)?
I await your explanation of why you labeled my good-faith intervention "vandalism" in a permanent, public log. —David Levy 00:56, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then you've made a mistake and have strayed from WP:NPA. If you don't fix this now, it's going to stir up even more worries. The page should be deleted straight off, the bot shouldn't be run until it no longer needs this page. Gwen Gale (talk) 00:23, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Bullshit. The bot shall continue to run until someone manages to find a problem with the bot, and then I will fix it and the bot will run again. The existence of a redirect is not causing any harm. ST47 (talk) 00:25, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Now you've strayed from WP:CIVIL. User:STBotI/BADUSER is a sweeping personal attack on many users. Personal attacks aren't allowed and are blockable. I plan on deleting and protecting the page if you don't do it yourself. Gwen Gale (talk) 00:28, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will have you reverted and reported to ANI if you do so. Doing so will disrupt the operation of the bot. A simple redirect existing for another few days is doing no harm. There's even a nice notice on top of the new page in case someone decides to take offense. ST47 (talk) 00:30, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The notice at the top of User:STBotI/WARNEDUSERS is both a personal attack and uncivil. Please reword it, thanks. Gwen Gale (talk) 00:35, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Done. ST47 (talk) 00:39, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Phrases and words such as overly sensitive users and meddling are uncivil, personal attacks on those who have commented here. Please remove the personal attacks. Gwen Gale (talk) 00:43, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously, ST47, I don't understand why you're lashing out like this. —David Levy 00:56, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A more benign problem

[edit]

Thanks for dealing with the BADUSERS thing. Now, in the process, I've noticed a more benign problem that you may want to fix, although on the other hand it may not actually affect anything.

You've got encoding errors in the list of usernames on User:STBotI/Notified users. It seems that you read UTF-8 off of Wikipedia, treat it as Latin-1, and then submit those Latin-1 strings back to your log on Wikipedia, where they show up as UTF-8 gibberish. Whatever your bot is supposed to do with its list of notified users, it may not be working correctly for users with accented characters in their name. rspεεr (talk) 20:36, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well aware of the UTF issues with the bot. The bug appears more or less on its own every time we do anything significant and then it gets fixed, those users there are probably pretty old from one of the periods when the bot was running on a bad version of the module. ST47 (talk) 20:58, 28 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Happy New Year!
Hey there, ST47! Happy new Gregorian year. All the best for the new year, both towards you and your family and friends too. I know that I am the only person lonely enough to be running this thing as the new year is ushered in, but meh, what are you going to do. I like to keep my templated messages in a satisfactorily melancholy tone. ;)

Congratulations to Coren, Wizardman, Vassyana, Carcharoth, Jayvdb, Casliber, Risker, Roger Davies, Cool Hand Luke and Rlevse, who were all appointed to the Arbitration Committee after the ArbCom elections. I am sure I am but a voice of many when I say I trust the aforementioned users to improve the committee, each in their own way, as listed within their respective election statements. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to update the 2009 article, heh.

User talk:Encyclopediaofalabama

[edit]

Hi, why delete User talk:Encyclopediaofalabama? This was a useful record of Wikipedians' responses to a new editor who was facing difficulty in contributing. DuncanHill (talk) 11:48, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pages such as that one are deleted after a period of time, usually at least three months for no-longer-active sockpuppets and sockpuppeteers. This is done to keep the old transclusions of templates to a minimum, as they serve no use on a blocked user's talk page, and because the page is no longer needed after the user has had a reasonable time to contest their indefinite block. ST47 (talk) 20:00, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As I recall it contained useful discussion which should be preserved. DuncanHill (talk) 20:04, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
All I see are a COI notice, a username block notice, a welcome, a sockpuppet notice, and some brief discussion as to whether the user's contributions are welcome and on the merits of a specific link they added (less than 5 comments, nothing really to write home about.) ST47 (talk) 20:09, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Forget it. Can't be bothered any more. DuncanHill (talk) 20:11, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree with DuncanHill here. That was a case where a new Wikipedian of evidently GF was very nearly tarred and feathered for an honest mistake. It wasn't just the regular troll-swatting. I hope we didn't scare them off permanently, but the page is gone now and I can't recall the username they were permitted(!) to retain. Andy Dingley (talk) 00:10, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure three months is sufficient time to allow, before deleting the user page of a blocked user. If the page is going to be deleted while the user remains blocked, at the least a note should be placed on the page indicating that the account is blocked, to prevent confusion. Otherwise, editors ending up at the page via links from other pages and their edit histories may not be aware that the account has been blocked and is no longer active. Is there a policy or guideline that authorizes and governs deletion of old user pages? If not, there should be. --Srleffler (talk) 01:10, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Brendo619RulzBest

[edit]

I noticed the following entry in the logs: "(Deletion log); 06:43 . . ST47 (Talk | contribs) deleted "User talk:Brendo619RulzBest" (Temporary page, too old)"

How can the user talk page have been too old? That user account was just created a month ago. Deleting the talk page was confusing. I put a vandalism warning there today, because I noticed that the account's contribution history contained a lot of vandalism and it did not appear that anyone had warned the user to stop. In fact, it was just that you had prematurely deleted the talk page. If you undelete the page, feel free to just overwrite the warning I left there today. I presume the deleted page must contain a record of other warnings.--Srleffler (talk) 00:18, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sathya Sai article - inappropriate images notice issue

[edit]

Hi. The Sathya Sai Baba article is one of the very sensitive controversial article which went through 2 arbitrations and many of the pro sai and anti editors were banned to let other NPOV editors to contribute and improve it. After arbitration this article was maintained pretty well till January 07 2009. From January 08th 2009 a new user http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:White_adept - hardcore anti sai activitist has taken over this article. His agenda is very clear from the talk page where he compares SaiBaba to Osama Bin Laden. He has completely rewritten the article in an anti sai perspective in a matter of 10 days. Just on Jan 12th 2009 he made 35 edits to the article. http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sathya_Sai_Baba&dir=prev&offset=20090111045336&action=history. The article which had been maintained for the past 21/2 years is completely rewritten in a matter of 10 days in the most negative perspective and does not have single positive incident about Sathya Sai Baba. He has also added offending images which are against criteria for non-free content. You had also added a comment in his talk page to remove those images. So far I have added 2 warning messages. Inspite of removing those images he still keeps adding them. How can this be stopped!!. Can something be done to stop this?. If he still continues to add those images after the 3rd warning can he be blocked?. Please advice.Thanks. RadiantEnergy 17 January 2009 (UTC)

Comment on CSDWarnBot

[edit]

According to the documentation, disabling the CSDWarnBot for a page is as simple as adding: <!--User:CSDWarnBot--> to the page. Is there a reason why the bot doesn't recognize the {{nobots}} template too? ηoian ‡orever ηew ‡rontiers 05:54, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I asked on the template page for inclusion of the comment prior to asking you here. Also, the nobots question would also ideally include other variations of the template related to CSDWarnBot, such as {{|bots|optout=afd}}, or {{bots|deny=all}} ηoian ‡orever ηew ‡rontiers 05:59, 21 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The bot will pay attention to "{nobots" on a userpage and skip that page. Any other features of the exclusion standard are not supported. Whether you have {{nobots}} or {{nobots|whatever else people put here}}, the bot will ignore the page. ST47 (talk) 19:22, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup FP points

[edit]

Durova has offered to have her FP points docked to 15 to encourage competition. Would this be possible for the bot to implement? Thanks, Garden. 21:51, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to justify adding a feature like this. I'll see what I can do... ST47 (talk) 01:30, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers :D While you're at it, could you have a look at User:Garden/WikiCup/Submissions/Catalan? His points aren't being counted. Thanks again (and sorry to pester you), Garden. 20:41, 26 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My Uploaded Photo

[edit]

Pardon me, your operated bot, STBotI gave a speedy deletion tag on my uploaded file File:Majalah Tempo (Februari 1999).jpg. I was imported it from id.wikipedia.org, please check it out. C H J L Discuss 10:34, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for importing this image. We probably do things a little differently than id.wiki, so what works there doesn't necessarily work here. Looks like you've got everything you need except for a non-free use rationale, describing the image's use here. The specific requirements, along with a template to help you out, it at WP:NFURG. ST47 (talk) 02:05, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh i see. I just imported from the id.wikipedia, so i don't know about the use rationale, the User:Meursault2004 scanned it. If you have enough time, please ask him. Cheers! C H J L Discuss 06:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

your bot CSDWarnBot

[edit]

Hello, I recently put a speedy on what appears to be a copyright violation. I was in the process of putting a notification on the user's talkpage who uploaded the image but was unable to do so because of an edit conflict; your bot beat me to the punch. I respect the fact that your bot will notify users when other users fail to do so but perhaps you might consider giving me a little more time to put the notification up? I appreciate you considering this, thanks. Naufana : talk 00:00, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

WarnBot deleting messages

[edit]

CSDWarnBot blanked this user's talk page before adding its own message. --R'n'B (call me Russ) 16:59, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like an isolated incident - a bad GET, where the API decides it doesn't want to do what it's supposed to. I'll turn on local debugging, just to be sure. ST47 (talk) 17:02, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bot did it again at User talk:CAFAirpower. – ukexpat (talk) 18:59, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the report, because my logs didn't catch anything. I'll write a safety check into the code. ST47 (talk) 20:31, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another bot error:CSDWarnBot

[edit]

CSDWarnBot placed this CSD warning on the talk page on my Bot, when my bot had done nothing else than WikiProject Tagged on the article talk page ( not an article contributor/creator) . Kindly look . Thanks -- Tinu Cherian - 11:02, 2 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Delta waves

[edit]

Just noticed your bot put a message on my talk page regarding speedy deletion of Delta waves. I've no idea what that page had on it and pretty certain I did not create the article or edit it. Please can you explain how you came up with my user id for this article? Muntfish (talk) 16:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jim Killock undeletion

[edit]

As you are listed in Wikipedia administrators who will provide copies of deleted articles, I would be very grateful if you would userfy Jim Killock (that I created in 2005) to User:Joeblakesley/Jim Killock. I wasn't notified of its deletion at the time, but did agree that the subject lacked notability. However, I now think the subject is more notable, so would like to improve the article in my user space to demonstrate this, before moving it to the main namespace. —Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 03:39, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sure. Done. ST47 (talk) 19:02, 5 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CUOS elections

[edit]

Do you have a tool available to check voter eligibility?--Tznkai (talk) 06:14, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Only locally, I have a script for it. I'll start posting the reports when I see issues. ST47 (talk) 11:26, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks.--Tznkai (talk) 14:04, 6 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regional Science High School for Region III is not a nonsense because I'm still patrolling that article against vandalism. Please, cancel the CSD. I hope that it will not continue the CSD unless I'm watching that article. Thank you! GPI-MediaWiki Union (talk) 09:12, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please

[edit]

CSD is needed for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teknologi_Industri_Pertanian_Angkatan_2005 - when they add the educational institution ads (they are literally) it seems to be some game - I have left a basic indonesian message for 'get lost' but politely, i hope you are able to do a csd - the point of translation of ads for tech colleges seems to be pointless at the mo considering how few active eds at the indonesian project there are - cheers

I havent checked either the web or wp in to see if its a lift or not SatuSuro 10:22, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Duplicate File:WhiteHeart1970.png Bot notice

[edit]

There image does not meet F1. It was/is not an unused image or other media file that is a redundant copy, in the same file format and same or lower quality/resolution, . The was a mis-tag. Please restore. (CC: OrangeMike) Soundvisions1 (talk) 13:43, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why is it necessary to have two copies of the same image in different file formats, when the jpg one that already exists isn't even used anywhere? ST47 (talk) 13:51, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. The original was upped by me last year and is used (Well, was until it was incorrectly deleted) so the one uploaded yesterday (the jpg) does not need to be here. Soundvisions1 (talk) 15:54, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't want to edit that myself, but do you think you could put a hatnote at the top pointing back to the CU/OS elections themselves? If that will mess up any pages where the results are transcluded or otherwise be difficult, don't worry about it (But using the back button is so hard!). Thanks for making the results list! Protonk (talk) 15:59, 7 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CSDWarnBot user talk page editing error, blanked page!

[edit]

Per this diff [[14]] CSDWArnBot blanked SIX recent warnings off of a users talk page, in order to issue a single new warning, that duplicated 1 of the pre-existing warnings.

Leaving new message = Good.

Issuing duplicate warning = Not so good.

Blanking page first. = BAD.

Question about my fairly stupid idea

[edit]

I was looking at User:ST47/CUOS 2009 just now, and I'm just curious. My dumb idea here, with that simple formula for weighting results based on the averages... how hard would that be to bot up, or stick out at the end? I'm curious to see if my formula sort of works through two elections, since I 538'd the AC elections based on the data in your AC09 table. :P rootology (C)(T) 06:26, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Portal edits in the Wikicup

[edit]

Hi, would it be possible for you to add portal edits to the mainspace edits counted by the bot for WikiCup points? I raised the question here, and there was a good amount of support for the idea. The judges said on IRC that they were happy for the edits to be added. J Milburn (talk) 11:16, 13 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(I'm just checking that you've read this by triggering the range bar of death) Dendodge TalkContribs 22:51, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. I did it. ST47 (talk) 23:08, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's great, thanks. Is it counting all portal edits since the start date, or just the latest batch each update? (While we're on that question, if the latter, wouldn't deleted edits still be counted, as long as there was at least one update between the edit and the deletion?) Mustard Bath (film)

[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry that I kept making changes to the article, I'm new here and I find a lot of this stuff confusing. I think I got the hang of sandbox now so that I won't be making so many corrections to the actual articles that I hope to write. Besides the issue of the article containing spam (which I hope you now see that it does not) is there anything else I need to change to keep the article? Thanks for all of your help! Sandra Okland

Content gets deleted on CSD of User Talk pages

[edit]

Often, spammers will put their spam on their talk page in addition to or instead of in an article. I typically use Twinkle to mark pages for CSD. A bug reported in Twinkle, which has been resolved, was that the warning placed on the talk page would obliterate the spam. It seems your bot is doing the same thing. --Tckma (talk) 17:02, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is your 3rr warning. (seriously, what on earth)... oh, and thanks for maintaining the table whilst Tango and SQLBot are off in the Bahamas. neuro(talk) 02:35, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You may consider this your 'cease and desist all idiocy' warning. Edit warring with a bot never ends well. ;) I'll update the code to strip out links, thanks for the message, ST47 (talk) 19:56, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

BAGBot

[edit]

Just cos I'm curious, where does it get its list of BAG members? Some bots seems to be in a trial without being edited by one, so I guess something's up. (I'm referring to BAG Status, btw). Cheers, - Jarry1250 (t, c) 14:41, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

From WP:BAG, but it ignores members listed as inactive, I think. No. The code says that any members in the active or inactive section are considered bag, former are not. ST47 (talk) 19:58, 18 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Madia Gond

It seems you just blocked yourself for vandalism twice. Is everything all right with your account? Is there sleep deprivation or an amusing story behind this? rspεεr (talk) 06:44, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA bot

[edit]

In Mfield's section, you keep on adding 1 to the oppose part. He has no opposes in the RFA. Malfunction? I had to revert this twice. SimonKSK 20:14, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Heroes template help please

[edit]

Just want to make sure I am not doing something against the rules. I have been trying to clean up the Heroes character articles and make them more encylopedic and save in-universe detail for the Heroes wiki. For years I have seen a wikilink template on Star Trek character pages to a Star Trek wiki so I figured that will provide the link to the Heroes wiki so viewers can go there for in-universe info. The template was maked spam by another user. I don't get it, why would the Heroes wikilink be spam but not the Star Trek wikilink? I copied the info. right from the Star Trek wikilink template too Template:Memoryalpha and pasted it to the page for the new template I created Template:Heroeswiki so these 2 templates are identical... did I screw something up here? Some of the pages even had links to the wikilink such as the Sylar page, so it was just adding the template instead. Why is this wrong? Also, I know you didn't delete the template and the other user nominate it to the bot, just wanted to get an admin's advice and saw u operated the bot so wanted to ask you. So just looking for admin advice here, I did read the notice you posted above and thats not what I am looking for, please advise, thank you. Ejfetters (talk) 05:54, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They're just looking for you to use Template:Heroes Wiki rather than Template:Heroeswiki article, since the two are identical, no reason to keep both. ST47 (talk) 13:31, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
