I'm reverting your move of Pirate Party, as the US version calls itself The Pirate Party of the United States. You should however know that the article has already been deleted and will most likely be deleted again if recreated. If, however the party should gain notability, I'd prefer to see a small notice on top of the Pirate Party article instead. -Obli (Talk)? 19:39, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your VandalProof Application

[edit]

Dear ST47,

Thank you for applying for VandalProof! (VP). As you may know, VP is a very powerful program, and in fact the just released 1.3 version has even more power. Because of this we must uphold strict protocols before approving a new applicant. Regretfully, I have chosen to decline your application at this time. The reason for this is that at this time you do not meet the minimum requirement of 250 edits to mainspace articles (see under main here). Please note it is nothing personal by any means, and we certainly welcome you to apply again soon. Thank you for your interest in VandalProof. - Glen 03:00, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit Summary

[edit]

Hello. Please don't forget to provide an edit summary. Thanks, — FireFox (talk) 15:32, 15 August 2006

hmm. most of what I do is reverts and warnings so I didn't think it was necessary but I will in future ST47 15:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to echo what FireFox said. It's actually really helpful (and generally good courtesy) if you provide a summary, even (or perhaps particularly) when reverting vandalism. Even a short summary like "rv vandalism" is adequate. -- Steel 22:56, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Vandalism

[edit]

Hey man I have been getting numerous emails/warnings with regards to vandalism; I just want you to know that this is a SHARED IP address, so any vandalism that is being committed on this quaint little project of yours is not the work of me. My name is Derek Malife and I live in Canada. My email is dmalife_45@yahoo.com; feel to free to contact me, but please no more threats about being blocked. peace

gotcha I'll try to figure out what the wikigeeks do about that - sorry about the warns :) ST47 20:55, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

you issued me this warning

[edit]

This is your last warning. Removing legitimate warnings from your talk page is considered to be disruption. You will be blocked from editing Wikipedia and your talk page will be protected from editing if you do it again.

I looked up disruption. I could find nothing about editing your own talk page being considered a disruption. How was I supposed to know you arent allowed to edit your own talk page? (on a shared ip no less).

Please explain this to me.

gee, it sure would help if I knew who you were!
removing warnings from your talk page is like throwing out a parking ticket - you do something bad and get warned/punished, you can't just ignore it. the IP in question had a history of vandalism so i just put a level4 there - now you know :) ST47 18:54, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but once you resolve the parking ticket you throw it out.

I would like to know how editing my talk page constitutes a disruption.

Is there anything in writing that demonstrates this?

Wikipedia:Removing warnings ST47 19:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this warning is fair at all. I am going to dispute it.

This page is a proposed Wikipedia policy, guideline, or process. The proposal may still be in development, under discussion, or in the process of gathering consensus for adoption. References or links to this page should not describe it as "policy".

DOESNT PROPOSED MEAN THAT IT HASNT BEEN PUT INTO EFFECT YET?

are you kidding me?

im reporting you for this abuse of power

furthermore the most recent warning had occured in may.

I think that qualifies as "reasonable amount of time"

kay. i looked at the talk page for the policy and changed the warning to a wr0. remember you can archive your page if you so desire ST47 19:09, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A question about pop-ups

[edit]

I was wondering if you could help me with pop ups ... I've followed the instructions but have been unable to get it to work. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 24.97.210.40 19:25, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sure! pretty much just go to User:24.97.210.40/monobook.js and type {{subst:navpop}} there, save page and see if it works - if it doesn't, clear your browser cache ST47 19:28, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting

[edit]

Hello ST47. Please do not use automated tools, such as popups, to revert good-faith edits like this one to Maurice Clarett. Such edits require an explanation, a descriptive edit summary if not a full talk or user talk post. Keep up the good work. ×Meegs 13:11, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

ok i will :)

discussion re: db-nonsense

[edit]

Hi ST. I deleted your {{db-nonsense}} at the Fraenkel page. That template is not for deleting content, but for deleting the whole page, which I'm sure was not what you were aiming at. (I've blocked the IP obsessed with Fraenkel's groping for now.)

hey - actually, i did want to delete that talk page, as there was no other content on it? don't forget to WP:SYP :P ST47 13:59, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Can you please stop deleting my edits on my userpage? Even if I'm not logged in at the time? It's getting really annoying. I make an edit, and it's deleted. Please prevent this from happening in the future, knowing my IP. DarknessLord 15:08, 18 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

comment on article page

[edit]

it wasn't comment! isn't that obvious, that it was supposed to be part of the article

geez, these wikipedia "pros" never get, what's intended (it wasn't the first time). ok, you're right about one thing: i'm not very good at binding new things to existing articles, so do it better, instead of random deletion!

you posted:
The shade of blue should be pantone 285C.
which is a comment, and is not something that belongs in the article namespace. if you post it in the talk namespace, then someone who knows what that means can fix it.ST47 13:10, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

no it's just that most often it's said, that the shade of blue has to be "pantone 285 c". first estonian flag law stated, that the color of estonian flag is the blue of sky and blue of cornflower. AND that IS relevant information. why should it be on the talk page, i wasn't correcting anything, i just picked the wrong wording. and you got it all wrong. "first shoot then ask"?

if you add something like the first verson, then I'm going te revert it, because, the way you worded it sounded like you were saying the image was incorrect. If you wanted to add a section, then just do that, and see WP:SIG ST47 13:43, 21 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry for artificially creating an edit war, but that's because you added the text with "requires", but i was right in middle of writing different text. by the way, during research for exact colors i discovered, that there's a mistake in the flag law, so could you please just not touch the darned thing, it's now the best way it can be and right now, i'm sending an inquiry to the states newspaper, whether they have wrong picture added to the law or they have misquoted the law.

Thanks!

1 troy ounce = 31 grams?

[edit]

"I don't believe this is correct.

I do. please WP:SIG ST47 22:21, 23 August 2006 (UTC)"[reply]
WTF are you talking about? I've never even heard of a "troy ounce". Kevin 21:49, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
so? now you have, and google agrees with me...from Ounce:
    Main article: Troy weight

A troy ounce (abbreviation: t oz) is equal to 480 grains. There are 12 troy ounces in a troy pound.
Consequently, the international troy ounce is equal to about 31.103 476 grams.

Today, the troy ounce is used only to express the mass of precious metals such as gold, platinum or
silver.

For historical measurement of gold,

    * a fine ounce is a troy ounce of 99.5% ("995") pure gold
    * a standard ounce is a troy ounce of 22 carat gold, 91.66% pure (11 "fine ounces" plus one
ounce of alloy material).
from Troy Weight:
Troy weight is a system of units of mass customarily used for precious metals, black powder,
and gemstones.
next time, google it or wiki it :) ST47 10:57, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that's a disambig page. It's not a list of different things that all use the term "therapy". It's a list of different types of therapy, with a definition of therapy at the top. I apologize, it appears as though an error in the tool my bot uses made an incorrect edit you your page. I am in the process of going through the bot's contributions to see if it was an isolated incident. ST47Talk 23:30, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, it appears as though it was a repeated error due to an extraneous space in the command. I have set a bot to repair any remaining errors and anticipate its completion within the next few minutes. I apologize for this error, which was entirely operator negligence, and promise that it will not happen again. ST47Talk 23:35, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your personal attacks in your edit summaries are inappropriate, and your talk page comment to Erwkern3 was hasty and rude, see Wikipedia:No personal attacks. I've recharged the text after altering it offline and with that your comment got erased. Which I only realised thereafter. Sorry.

Anyway, i'm working on it, but need time. Would be nice if you understood that as it is. And of course it would be welcome if you, or anyone into the subject, added to reading less like advertising.

bot?

[edit]

Hey, I know it says that your "bot" account is using AWB, but it's, like, flooding, like, my watch list. So I thought I'd whine about that. Maybe for when you do stuff like change redirect categories, you could get a bot flag, that would be nifty? Ok, that's all :) Mak (talk) 02:37, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

sorry :( but...why are you watching redirect pages anyway? :P meh. I'll go bother someone about the flag, I thought I was supposed to have one anyway ST47Talk 10:20, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. Per Betacommand's final approval [3], I've granted your bot, STBot, a bot flag. Redux 12:15, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I know, it's a little bit silly of me, and it was partly flooding my watchlist because I have the "watch all pages I edit or create" box checked, and didn't bother to uncheck it when creating redirects. Thanks for getting it fixed :) (the "likes" were supposed to convey that I knew I was being a little bit silly, but perhaps more direct communication would have been better :) Mak (talk) 16:19, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How were they slanderous? It is well known that Giambi's father loves Mickey Mantle and as far as relevance is concerned, it's a trivia section. They don't need to be relevant, as long as it is a trivial piece of information.

Removal of African-American football players category (Willie Fleming & Johnny Bright)

[edit]

I read the wiki category guidelines and don't understand why you removed the above-referenced categories from the Johnny Bright and Willie Fleming pages. Had some type of consensus been reached that I don't know about? I think the categories are appropriate for both pages. I would welcome discussion and a response. Using AWB for cleanup

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for doing copy edit work. One remark however. Per WP:AWB#Rules of use, one should

Avoid making insignificant minor edits such as only adding or removing some white space, moving a stub tag, converting some HTML to Unicode, removing underscores from links (unless they are bad links), or something equally trivial. This is because it wastes resources and clogs up watch lists.

I would suggest using AWB for spell-checking, category renaming, or other important matters. Wonder what you think. You can reply here. Thanks. Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 02:11, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Oleg! Are you referring to my bot itself, or the trial I did on ST47 yesterday? in future it will all be done with the bot account(I'm preparing a 50 edit trial now) and I'll be working on specific things such as the messed up links. I think it will only be a week of the heavy edits, and then only fixing errors that are inserted, however I don't want it to be an annoyance. As for the resources, it will ofcourse run overnight, not during peak times - thats 2AM-10AM GMT that I will run it. I can probably set it to end earlier if needed? ST47Talk 18:39, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I am referring to your bot, indeed. Note that overnight where you are maybe midday somewhere else. :) My point is that you should not use the bot for trivial edits. For example, is a link messed up just because it has underscores in it, or because it is like this: [[function|functions]]? Such edits should not be done with AWB, per the policy linked above. Such edits don't add value, and they obscure the watchlists and recent changes, making it harder for people to track contributions. Cheers, Oleg Alexandrov (talk) 02:08, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
why don't you take a look at its request for approval, as that explains the bot ST47Talk 10:15, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Recent bot edits

[edit]

Your edits to Annie Haslam and Anthony Ashley-Cooper, 3rd Earl of Shaftesbury‎ are contrary to what I was taught here at Wiki and other editors using AWB. Has something changed, i.e. caps and plurals in links?? Amerindianarts 04:36, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! When using links where you want it to appear plural, you can just type [[link]]s, there is no need to sue a piped link. There are a few more tips on what the bot does at his userpage, User:STBot. Thanks! ST47Talk 11:09, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not really needed edits

[edit]

Hi, I noticed your bot did the following edit: [4]. We shouldn't really be doing such minor edits on articles as they do not actually change anything in the page. All this does is put unnecessary strain on the servers (as an edit takes a significantly larger amount of resources than parsing that sort of link does). I don't know if you can alter this with AWB, but I think you should look into ways of avoiding doing this. Thanks, Localzuk(talk) 13:04, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

actually, that is the point of the bot's second task, which passed a WP:BRFA with the approval of betacommand and RM. The edits are run in non-peak hours to decrease server load, and the bot has a botflag to avaid RC and watchlist spam. after the first 2 weeks, the amount of edits will drop, because I am currently 'repairing' the wiki, and in 2 weeks after this is done I will be 'maintaining' the wiki, only repaiting issues that are added. The edits I made last night, of which there were 2,160, recovered a total of 25,920 B, and the rest of the edis will probably be about 402,636 B more. It should also simplify the edit view, and limit users from seeing that error and perpetuating it, as the user above was led to believe. ST47Talk 13:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But instead of the 25,920 B of data being used for storage, won't a significantly higher amount be used in storage of the diff information about the edit made? I still disagree with this form of edit as it is a waste of resources and should only really be done when another editor is making a significant edit and fixes the issue at the same time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Localzuk (talkcontribs) 09:31, October 14, 2006 (UTC)
From the BRFA
While I agree that this bot is useful and good as per Betacommand, I also partially agree with Oleg Alexandrov to some extent, but not for the same reason. There are a number of potential changes: plurality, underscores, double-piped links, self referential links, and interwiki links. I'll focus on the first 4. Plurality and double-piped links only serve to hurt the readability of the code behind the page, so there is a compelling reason to make these changes even though they are trivial and may enter people's watchlists. As mentioned above, bot edits to watchlists can be disabled, so this isn't a big deal. With self-referential links, this isn't so much of a big deal. They shouldn't happen, true, but they don't really overly hurt readability. Nevertheless, I don't mind if they occur. My problem is with changes that do nothing but change underscores. An underscore in a link is not a big deal and there is no compelling reason to make an edit to a page solely to change underscores to spaces. This adds database load without a clear benefit. So here is what I suggest. Do the plurality, double-piped link, and self-referential link fixes for any articles needing it, but only correct underscores if you are making one of the other 3 fixes. So basically only correct underscores if you were going to edit the page anyway. This will cut down on needless edit load to the databases. I don't mind if you process underscores during time periods where Wikipedia is experiencing low load. So make sure if you do just underscores that you do so at major off-peak times.
I am obeying the restrictions set by RM, only editing off-peak, and using minor edits under a botflag. All edits are being done off-peak due to the underscore restriction, and at an acceptable speed(5-7 epm) ST47Talk 13:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed your concerns on the bad-faith AfD (nominated by the Muslim guild) . The Hinduism article is used for the philosophy and practices of Hinduism, not for things belonging to articles in the Category:Hinduism by country. Hinduism in Azerbaijan has a long history, mainly in Silk Road trade. Also the Atashgah is a major defining part of the practice of Hinduism. The article is sourced as well. If you have any other concerns, please ask me on my talk page.Bakaman Bakatalk 16:18, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It has a long history, though the article says Hinduism in Azerbaijan has never been a widespread tradition.? You have all these small articles for each country, some of which, like Hinduism in Azerbaijan, admit that there isn't any Hinduism in Azerbaijan? I believe that all these articles with little context would be better as one article(like Hinduism by country is???) ST47Talk 16:49, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summary & bot edits

[edit]

Can you please shorten your bot's edit summary. If nothing else, you could remove the redundant link to the bot's talk page, since it RDRs here. Also I thought AWB was explicitly not for bots. It still says, "edits made using this software are the responsibility of the editor using it." So you shouldn't have to apologise for the possibility of mistakes in your edit summary, any more than you would in your own manual unassisted edits.

Its edits in fact are nothing like what is described at Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/STBot which only mentions category work. --pfctdayelise (translate?) 01:19, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

spaces or lack thereof

[edit]

I was going over my watchlist this evening and noticed that one user had added spaces and your bot had subsequently removed them. I figure it's a MOS buggery or something, but I'm not sure why we need a bot going through attacking blank lines. I rather like the idea of separating text visually. Exactly how many pages are you doing this to? ... aa:talk 05:03, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not ssure why it did that, probably a bug, but it shouldn't have edited that page at all, I'll go over the settings and see if there's a better wat to keep it from doing that. Thanks for letting me know! ST47Talk 10:53, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

AWB mistake

[edit]

Please read the talk page for AWB. We do not want automatic Unicodification of mathematics pages. The bot is being changed to avoid these without intervention, but meanwhile you are responsible for undoing what you have done, and for not allowing the bot to do it any more. The page that brought this to my attention is Boolean algebras canonically defined, which I have already reverted. Thanks. --KSmrqT 05:58, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]
