WIR templates, etc.

Hi there, Rosie, wherever you happen to be. I have followed with interest the discussions on the WIR templates. It seems to me risky to upset our well-established approach and hope we can succeed in maintaining the present approach. I have been looking at the listings under Template:WIR and was surprised to see there was nothing for Template:WIR/doc/2023 although there are complete listings for previous years. Is this something we should be completing ourselves and, if so, do you know how? Similarly, I see that the list under Template:WIR/meetups ends at February 2018. Perhaps Headbomb can let us know whether any of this is important. While I'm here, on our monthly metrics I finally found out that Earwig had helped us out in the past and am pleased to see that thanks to his rapid response, everything is back to normal again. I was however rather surprised that no one commented on the absence of updates which made me wonder whether it is worthwhile maintaining these pages. I do however appreciate the yearly totals you have been adding. It might be useful to have an update for our eighth anniversary. I'm rather concerned that since the end of May, we have had no contacts with Tagishsimon who has been so helpful on technical and statistical issues. Have you any idea why he is no longer editing?--Ipigott (talk) 09:39, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Ipigott. I really hope we can continue our present approach with the WIR templates. I think they not only work well for us, but they enthuse us (hey, I'm contributing to the 275th event of Women in Red, wow, so cool). Why diminish the enthusiasm?
WRT "... completing listings for previous years ...", that's beyond my tech knowledge.
I don't know if they are, but if Tagishsimon is a student, it might make sense that they are away for the summer, backpacking somewhere. Of course, there may be entirely different reasons for not editing in a bit. --Rosiestep (talk) 10:41, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
He's certainly not a student. If I remember correctly, he carried out contractual work on research for the European Commission about 30 years ago.--Ipigott (talk) 11:44, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
I can confirm from a Twitter exchange that he is taking a break from Wikipedia and Wikidata at the moment. Oronsay (talk) 21:13, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Oronsay. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:00, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Headbomb. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:00, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

July music

July songs
my story today

My story today pictures a friend whose birthday is today ;) - we listened to music she helped publishing - at a fancy place (which looked different when Bach played there). -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:04, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt - Back from vacation and catching up with reading. Nice that you are friends with Leonore. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:16, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
(Finally: June pictures updated, with three great RMF concerts! - No cat, but next batch. - If you get a chance to enjoy Diana Tishchenko, don't miss it.) - Leonore played for us at her party (Saturday), on four instruments including baryton, with family (granddaughters!) and colleagues, from Renaissance to Haydn. - My story today is very personal: the DYK appeared on Wikipedia's 15th birthday, and describes a concert I sang. I was requested to translate the bio into German for a memorial concert ... - see background, and we talked about life and death. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:52, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Nice! You do so much, Gerda Arendt! Plus, nice to learn about Diana T. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:26, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
She was my story on 28 Jun but you were away I guess ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:53, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Love your cat today especially! - fireworks on the Rhine pictured on 1 July, but the real stars were sun and moon. I love today's story. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:20, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt Thank you; indeed, a cute catloaf. Today's cat is looking up at something... perhaps the sun or perhaps the moon. I do enjoy fireworks over water. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:28, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
On today's Main page, you can find a cantata that Bach first performed 300 years ago, and an iconic saxophonist from East Germany. Next will be a woman. Met a cat today, but was to slow again. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:21, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, makes me wonder whose music from now will still be performed 300 years from now. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:49, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
... or make it 400, thinking of Monteverdi's 1610 vespers? - I uploaded a few more pics. The woman mentioned before is on the Main page. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:05, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, yup, time is relative, in music and otherwise. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:08, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
July songs
my story today

For a good time, have my friend cutting a birthday cake, and as the number 8 is featured, you can take it as a symbol for the WiR birthday. I am still behind in pics, but moved forward from 2 to 8 - this. 6 has a black cat, in front of a gorgeous landscape, but not quite as exciting without it.--Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:55, 23 July 2023 (UTC)

Such a treat looking at your pictures. The black cat looks like it's enjoying the day. Especially cute was the peacock who seemed to be following the men. But my favorite is "Schloss Ettersburg from creek" ... imagining myself sitting in that field with a good book and a glass of lemonade. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:17, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
The cat was rolling over sideways 360°, - I took several shots, but only two have eyes, and on the other, the background is too out of focus. - What do you think of Leonore's cakes? - I added several of my most recent pics to articles such as Tenebrae, which will by my story tomorrow. With all the DYK section about Santiago, their one-hour presentation of the 2005 Path of Miracles, composed for them, seems the perfect match. I heard it the first time, in 2019, and liked it again. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:37, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
ps: there's a red link for a woman to fill, also a plan for tomorrow - a woman in green which tells her party ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:40, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
... which is now blue ;) - As said above, while today's DYK highlights Santiago on his day, I did my modest share with my story today, describing what I just experienced, pictured. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:14, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
Today Jahrhundertring, and I'm listening to Götterdämmerung from the Bayreuth Festival (pictured), - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:54, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt - Götterdämmerung, such stunning images. And now I'm listening, too (via YT). --Rosiestep (talk) 13:40, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

Thanks for reviewing Sun Sunquan!

Dear Rosie,

Thank you for reviewing Sun Sunquan, a page I created earlier today. I read about WiR a while ago and I also learned about your experience. You can guess how excited I was to see that you were the reviewer of the new article. Cheers, --TheLonelyPather (talk) 18:02, 10 July 2023 (UTC)

You're most welcome, TheLonelyPather. It's a nice article! Know that I appreciate what you do around here. Happy editing and stop by my talkpage and/or the WiR talkpage any time. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:30, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
You'll be pleased to see TheLonelyPather has become a member of Women in Red and has drawn up a redlist of Chinese women he intends to cover.--Ipigott (talk) 06:40, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
Wonderful news; thanks, Ipigott. Welcome to Women in Red, TheLonelyPather! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:50, 13 July 2023 (UTC)

So I am working on an article on your grandmother's friend and found this lovely article, which I thought you might enjoy. It also made me add the author Svetlana Tomić to our redlist for women's studies. SusunW (talk) 20:05, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Oh, my, SusunW - thank you so much for the link. Also, REALLY ENJOYED reading the article you've started on Katarina. So amazing what women of that day accomplished, e.g., ...one of the first women to write a high school textbook in the country.... --Rosiestep (talk) 20:47, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
Well the other woman was your grandmother, because they wrote it together. Obviously the lede hasn't yet been expanded and I'm still working through sources, but that piece by Tomić talks about the things they wrote in the private musings and diaries, so it makes them seem much more alive. As I was reading it, I kept thinking of you. SusunW (talk) 20:56, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
SusunW - --Rosiestep (talk) 21:05, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
I'm back. This photo is widely used on the web. I could always upload it fair use, but I could put it on commons if we can decipher the photographer's name and figure out dates. Can you read it? I only grasp Belgrade at the bottom. SusunW (talk) 17:46, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
There is a clear photographer's name on the bottom left which should not be too difficult to read for someone familiar with cyrillics. Maybe KWiki could help us out.--Ipigott (talk) 18:47, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
Yes, that's what I am hoping for. Thank you Ipigott! Lots of use of this image without any attribution to the photographer, but this image clearly shows who took it, if I could only read it. SusunW (talk) 19:10, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
The first letter is a bit unclear, but it should be "Milan Savić (Beograd)". The title of the article is "Life and work of Katarina Bogdanović". The text in the gray frame on the picture says: "Opening of the exhibition 'Life and work of Katarina Bogdanović'; authors: Slavica Jagličić, Jelena Mikićević; 30th December 2019, 12 o'clock, Historic archive of Šumadija, Kragujevac; design: Marija Stefanović Jovanović". Anything else? KWiki (talk) 19:56, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, KWiki, and nice to meet you! --Rosiestep (talk) 20:03, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
And now a friend has confirmed "Milan Savić". --Rosiestep (talk) 20:05, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you all. I really appreciate the help! SusunW (talk) 20:32, 13 July 2023 (UTC)
According to p 311 of this his dates are 1883-1954. Which means for now has to be fair use, as it won't be in the PD until January 2024 in Serbia. Unless someone can find proof of publication before his death, it won't be freely distributive in the US until 2049. I am fairly sure it was taken before she left Belgrade in 1928, primarily because of the style of dress she is wearing. Really appreciate the sleuthing from everyone. Women in Red 8th Anniversary

Women in Red 8th Anniversary
In July 2015 around 15.5% of the English Wikipedia's biographies were about women. As of July 2023, 19.61% of the English Wikipedia's biographies are about women. That's a lot of biographies created in the effort to close the gender gap. Happy 8th Anniversary! Join us for some virtual cake and add comments or memories and please keep on editing to close the gap!

Thanks, Lajmmoore! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:16, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
  • Congratulations, Rosie, on this eighth anniversary. It's great to see how involved you still are in the success of the project. It was a great idea of yours to celebrate the day.--Ipigott (talk) 13:02, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Ipigott. On Day 1, it was an idea. Since Day 2, more or less, you have been one of the most instrumental Wikimedians in the project's success. For example, I remember it was your idea to hold the second editathon, "Leadership". My honor to work alongside you. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:16, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for your kind words. The main reason I have spent so much time on the project is simply because it's fun. In fact, I believe my involvement goes back rather further than "Day 2". When I saw Roger's proposal, I encouraged him to go ahead with his wonderful idea of "Pickin' up more women" and I suggested he should try to bring you into the project. I thought we needed a woman and you had already been enormously successful with Women writers. When I saw how things had evolved in Mexico, I was convinced it was an enterprise I should support. Those early days with "Leadership", "Architecture" and "Science" really set the ball rolling. I have never forgotten how way back your son encouraged you to devote more of your Wikipedia time to persuading other people to contribute rather than just writing articles yourself. With your projects, ideas, and your involvement in all levels of Wikipedia/Wikimedia, you have certainly followed his advice. I am also now devoting much more of my editing time to supporting new participants as I realize an active new contributor is worth far more than just another new biography. When I see how productive many of them have become, I'm convinced this is the right course. It's always been a real pleasure working with you, Rosie, and I look forward to many more productive years.--Ipigott (talk) 13:51, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Authority Control

Hi Rosiestep,

Is authority control something I can add when I write an article, or does it have to be done after the article is reviewed, etc? Thanks for adding it to my articles!

T. E. Meeks (talk) 10:51, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Hi, T. E. Meeks. You're welcome and great question! "Authority control" can be included in your first edit when you create a new article, plus "DEFAULTSORT", plus "reflist", plus at least one category. These are articles I created recently; you could check out the first edit on some of them if you'd like to see examples of what I routinely do on my first edit. In mainspace (as opposed to draftspace), it's okay to add everything you plan to include in a new article without waiting for a review. Thanks for what you do around here! --Rosiestep (talk) 13:09, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

August music

August songs
my story today

Today's music is played by my brother's orchestra, conducted by two very young men on their way up, - the picture was taken shortly after the invasion of Ukraine began, - more detail on my talk. Images reached the day of the Tenebrae concert mentioned in July. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:41, 2 August 2023 (UTC)

My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but one I reviewed for DYK, see here. I like all: topic, "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". I just returned from a weekend of weddings, so also like the spirit ;) - Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:34, 7 August 2023 (UTC)

Lots to read and learn about, Gerda Arendt. Smiled when I noticed that Kurhaus was created by Dr. Blofeld more than a decade ago. A weekend of weddings sounds lovely... much happiness. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:26, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
Yes, much happiness, and music! - Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! - No cake yet, but a butterfly and open-air opera. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:18, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
Now: picture of heart-shaped cake(s) uploaded, and more from the concert hall! - Today's story is about a tenor, - why his roles are not linked on the Main page remains a mystery to me. Today is also the birthday of the Bayreuth Festival. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I love reading about (and attending!) festivals and fairs! Nice article. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:46, 13 August 2023 (UTC)
One more day uploaded, with another wedding cake - I couldn't resist. Today's story is about the Inkpot Madonna who returned to "her place" 9 years ago, and also has aspects of early learning, remember? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:58, 15 August 2023 (UTC)
Today is the anniversary of the premiere of Götterdämmerung. Berit Lindholm sang its final scene in concert at the Royal Festival Hall in London, only four years after her stage debut in a Mozart opera in Stockholm. - Sorry for occupying your place below, while you are away. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:38, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
No worries, Gerda Arendt. I'll catch up when I'm back. Let me just say, cake of any nature, is always a delight as far as I'm concerned. It's night here in Singapore, but I'm awake and decided to do some Wikipedia work. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 20:43, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Today I heard a delightful concert, "Himmlische Freuden", remembered having heard Vilde Frang (Bruch concerto, in Zürich, with my brother's orchestra) , and succeeded in preparing Renata Scotto's article enough for the Main page (which took two days). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
Today's story is based on a 2011 that would not pass 2023 reviewers, - they have to be of interest to the general public, which opera singers are not, so they say. Look below, discussed here. - I added pics until a happy day with excellent food, only dessert pictured, soup was tasty but looked pale, main course (rabbit in bacon on risotto with chanterelles) was covered too much with broccoli. - Adorable cat that you show! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt - Now back home and getting caught up with reading in this section and down below. I assume that my pagestalkers have already clicked through your links in this section and enjoyed learning about your stories. Thank you; agree that the last cat was adorable. Another kitten for today. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:25, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
also adorable, and flowery! - If you want to add on WT:DYK, in the name of WiR, it's not too late. Look for Berit. We have one suggestion with bottom extension and one with damn primary school teacher. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:30, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
good news: that discussion was closed, - you can speak there, link on the article talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:00, 22 August 2023 (UTC)
bad news: overnight, the reviewer - without asking anyone else - approved a poor choice. I offered a new version of another hook, please check. Perhaps even bring it up at WiR, because I see poor view on a (great!) woman's article. - The new cat in the flower box made me laugh loud - just what I needed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:52, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt - Sorry for your bad news but happy to hear that today's cat made you laugh. Perhaps it went unnoticed, but I stay away from DYK these days. It can be a stressful environment, so the decision is purposeful. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:58, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
today's cat speaks my mind, lol, "does not approve", - Lindholm is in prep, with no music but "damn" - that's the current style of DYK --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:23, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I haven't enjoyed the DYK style for a few years now. For me, the best option was to stop participating. Stress level receded. I'm not suggesting that others should follow my example. Just sharing my history. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:14, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Understand, all too well. I wanted to stop completely in January, but didn't quite manage, for still wanting to tell the stories about my subjects, at least the most important ones, especially the women. (I have only 21 qpq as of today, vs. an estimated 160 in August 2022.) See today's story, a 2014 DYK which would probably not have passed in 2023. I'll discuss it today. I want to paint subjects active, and not just say what a man said about them, so have to be active as well ;) - today's cat looks appropriately serious, but to match my singer should be black ;) - I saw her on stage in Bayreuth, with Gwyneth Jones. Her singing With Lindstrom was a few years earlier. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:41, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, not my area of expertise, but this one needs doing and I can't sleep, so... I'm just starting the biography on Christine Nielson Dreier, a contralto concert and oratorio singer. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:47, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, I'll look (but first comes a woman for RD, then check the GA review for Lindholm, then the discussion announced). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:51, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
I looked ;) - Today is Gwendolyn Killebrew's birthday, - pictured: a spider and sweet food - Yesterday I added Killebrew to Lindholm's article, and today the latter became GA. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:56, 26 August 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, Gerda. I'm smiling. Two contaltos: Christine and Gwendolyn. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:04, 26 August 2023 (UTC)

This too shall pass. - Ten years ago on 28 August, I heard a symphony, with a heavy heart because of the pending decision in WP:ARBINFOBOX, and not worried about my future here but Andy's. - It passed, and I could write the DYK about calling to dance, not battle, and Andy could write the DYK mentioning about peace and reconciliation, - look. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:38, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Indeed, Gerda. --Rosiestep (talk) 08:55, 30 August 2023 (UTC)
Closing August: I am proud of expanding Berit Lindholm, but not of the hook for her, and I like Alma Mahler on the Main page today after I just heard some of her songs. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:07, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Help?

I wrote an article about Josephine Waconda and wanted to link her to both her father and brother. The issue is that the article about the father, Miguel, was titled Michael (the brother's name). No clue why that was done as every single source cited in what was there called him Miguel. So, I moved the article on dad to Miguel Trujillo. The problem is that now Michael Trujillo is a redirect to that article and I don't know how to make the article on her brother without losing the history on her dad's article. Am I making sense? Can you help, or explain to me what I need to do to create the article on her brother, who was "the first full-blooded Indian to serve as director of the U.S. Indian Health Service".[1] Thanks SusunW (talk) 18:37, 16 August 2023 (UTC)

She says "out of town". My helper for such things is Graham. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:47, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, Gerda Arendt. I was hoping she'd check in when she could or a page stalker could help and that obviously worked SusunW (talk) 18:59, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
@SusunW: Just edit the page normally (convenience link to redirect page). No history will be lost. Graham87 19:04, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
(ec) I think you might just create the article about the brother replacing the redirect, which would leave the history available for a later merge. You could also cautiously begin in draft. - Now how is that? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:06, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
@Graham87 and Gerda Arendt: I am sorry, I'm confused. Full disclosure I am not at all technical and probably didn't explain it well. I want to create a new article about Michael, but I cannot as that is now a redirect to Miguel. If I just write the article in the space that is now a redirect, the history is all about Miguel, not Michael. How can the history of Miguel go to his article so I can write Michael? SusunW (talk) 19:10, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
You click on the redirect, then "edit", and then replace the redirect (to the father) by whatever you want to write about the brother. - Completely different question: what do you think about the DYK nom for Berit Lindholm (on her talk)? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:25, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Okay, I got it. Thanks, Gerda Arendt. That DYK conversation is not very nice. SusunW (talk) 19:51, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, SusunW, for not seeing this earlier. I'm at Wikimania and it is all-consuming, particularly yesterday, with the WikiWomen Summit. Looks like things are resolved now with Miguel Trujillo and Michael Trujillo. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:54, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Nice or not nice, I don't care, but I don't want a notable woman travel to the Main page with just some male vulgarity, and no word about her achievements, which were quite unique. - But that's what happened, - it's in prep, without image (which would at least be a hint at the period). I'm busy with Renata Scotto, - I remember having seen her unsourced article recently, thinking o dear what will happen when she dies - and she did. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:46, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
@Gerda Arendt: The nomination was put forward by @Storye book: and had the hook approved by @Narutolovehinata5:. I cannot promote your choice of ALT0 as it was specifically rejected. Note that you now have a discussion about this topic in three places: on the nomination, at my talk page and now on this talk page. I am doing my best to do my checks and promote hooks, and I said in the nomination: if we are going to workshop the hook I have to move on. I said this because I was looking for a biography to complete a set and I wanted this one. I am sorry if that offended you but I needed the hook for a set so I promoted the one that was approved. NPP review

Hi Rosiestep! I saw that you marked The Princeton Progressive as reviewed for NPP. Which references did you consider to have met the WP:NORG standard? {{u|Sdkb}}talk 17:07, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Sdkb, My opinion on its notability is that it is a decades-old publication of an Ivy League university. Having an awareness of the work that "Newspapers on Wiki" is doing influenced me, too. If you wish to revert me, please be bold and do so. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:02, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for the explanation, Rosie. I am also a proponent of being lenient on newspaper articles, given that we often cite them and it's in readers' interest to be able to look up their reputation, and I wish WP:NMEDIA was elevated to an SNG. But The Princeton Progressive is clearly different from The Daily Princetonian — it's an opinionated political journal rather than a campus-focused publication of record, and it's cited less than half a dozen times on Wikipedia (compare to The Daily Princetonian's 400+).
Something that I've observed working with WikiProject Higher education is that prestigious universities often have lower-quality coverage than might be expected, and over time I've come to understand that the "it's associated with an Ivy and therefore must be notable" attitude, which diffuses editor effort across more articles than are needed, is a major reason why. So I think that attitude is something to discourage.
Given all that, I don't think your IAR argument holds water. As an ATD, I'll redirect it to Princeton University § Campus organizations, where it's given an appropriately due one-sentence mention. If Student life at Princeton University becomes an article someday, perhaps it could have a section there. {{u|Sdkb}}talk 15:29, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable to me, Sdkb. Thanks for doing the heavy-lifting. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:52, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

September flowers

September songs
my story today

The flowers seem to weep in memory. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:23, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

So apropos, Gerda Arendt... RIP, Richard. At the same time, Happy Birthday, grandpa. --Rosiestep (talk) 01:33, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for the gift of meeting that great person! - The article about the one grandfather I knew would be short but should contain that he instilled in me a love for hiking and flowers. The day before he was buried I sang Jesu, meine Freude. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:44, 2 September 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, How wonderful that you knew him and that he instilled those two loves in you. --Rosiestep (talk) 20:59, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you! The day of the funeral was also me reaching legal age. My other grandfather was cross with my dad, his youngest son, marrying an older woman; he didn't attend their wedding, and expected no offspring, but at least got to know that she was pregnant before he died. - Did you know that a line of consolation that you gave me 10 years ago, on my talk (2 Sep, but the relief came 4 Sep), inspired today's story? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:04, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, and you remember it from 10 years ago... wow! Thank you for letting me know. Kindly, would you let me know what was the context back then? --Rosiestep (talk) 16:15, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
I didn't remember at all. 10 years ago was WP:ARBINFOBOX in its final phase, and it shows on my talk, - just look for the phrase. - From 28 August, it looked as if Andy would be banned, then you spoke, and then on 4 September one arb changed his mind. - I was pleasantly surprised to see it. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:25, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I found it. Glad it brought comfort then, and that even 10 years later later, it is remembered. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:39, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
Now pics around a memorable concert, and the story of Walter Arlen, - proud that I survived the decision in ARBINFOBOX for 10 years, standing and singing --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:13, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
Today's story is about a great pianist with an unusual career, taking off when he was 50. It's the wedding anniversary of Clara and Robert Schumann, but I was too late with our gift. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:10, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
For Clara
Gerda Arendt, and tomorrow is Clara's birthday! --Rosiestep (talk) 18:05, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I told DYK, but to no avail so far, and better wait for an image slot than have it on her birthday without image. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:10, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Today a soprano who sang an opera young that I heard young ;) - no image for the Myrthen, on Monday. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:42, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt - Nice article on Margherita, the soprano. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:39, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

Today I remember Raymond Arritt, who still helps me, five years after he died, per what he said in my darkest time on Wikipedia (placed in my edit-notice as a reminder), and by teh rulez. - Latest pics from a weekend in Berlin (one more day to come). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:00, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Gerda Arendt Cheesecake with blueberries! (Berliner Dom and its park across Spree is also nice.) --Rosiestep (talk) 10:40, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, - good taste ;) - My story today is The Company of Heaven ("company" with a double meaning, but angelic company in the end). - Pictures of the one more day yes, but no others yet, it's a week with concert or opera almost every night! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:23, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt That's a lot of music... even if lovely to be part of it! This time of year, though, when it's a bit cooler than blazing summer heat, is a great time to attend events; I've been doing it, too, though not all are music-related. Enjoy! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:06, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

anita bobasso

Anita Bobasso dear Rosiestep: I can see in your face that you are a good person and I ask you for help. I am 71 years old and its not easy for me to manage all the way around wikipedia.

there is an editor who wants to remove it at all costs because I complained and he did not like it. It is a biography of a singer of typical Argentine "tango" songs, very famous in the last century and that can be verified in the dozens of links in the bio, despite the fact that at that time there was no press like there is now... without Yet she had it. 25 years after she died, press is still talking about her as you can see in this article from 2020 "E de amargar" where noted that the public asked her to repeat the song several times! https://www.historiadealagoas.com.br/antonio-hugo-da-silva-o-boemio-maestro-antonio-paurilio.html Please help me so that it is not deleted, it shows not respect for a famous dead person. very thankful if you can do something to help me!!.Alfredo

Alfredomaraw (talk) 14:00, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Alfredomaraw: I do not appreciate the accusations of WP:IDONTLIKEIT put on me. Please understand that the English Wikipedia has very strict guidelines on what’s notable for inclusion, and after performing a search on the subject myself, I do not think this subject meets those guidelines. Jalen Folf (talk) 16:05, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

anita bobasso have hundreds of exterior links, very unusual for people of her age. 125 years old. in her times wasn't the press that we have today. Alfredomaraw (talk) 17:53, 5 September 2023 (UTC)

Alfredomaraw, thank you for contacting me regarding Anita Bobasso's biography, which has been nominated for deletion. I think it's a nice start to an article on an accomplished woman. I understand how much work it takes to create a woman's biography so I empathize with your sadness that it's been nominated for deletion.
The appropriate course of action at this time is to improve the article if you can. For example, there are several External Links; the information contained in them could be incorporated into the article and the External Link could be converted into a reference. It's okay to engage in conversation on the subject's Article for Deletion page if you have additional information to share, but once you've made your point, it's best to give space for others to comment. Per WP:CIVILITY, it's good practice to stay professional in the comments that we make when dealing with other editors, e.g., not criticize the editor who, in good faith, nominates an article for deletion (in this case, JalenFolf). I understand that you have an opinion, but others do, too, and we are all volunteers. Another good practice is to remain calm in what you write and how you write it. For example, you may be unaware, but it's jarring to read messages in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS as written on the Articles for Deletion page as it denotes shouting.
You and I are both "senior citizens" and there's a lot we can offer the world through our wiki work, so I hope you keep learning and keep writing!
P.S. I'm curious why there is no article yet about her on ES-WP? --Rosiestep (talk) 18:14, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
thank you Rosie, good people like you is what makes this world worth it to stay. I respect older people ( unhappily many young people doesn't )and not because I am also old ( lol) i always did since I was very young. Anita was a very famous singer, I was able to see her shows when I was a kid. she deserves respect and her memory stay alive ( wikipedia is good for that). I hope she is resting in peace with all these going around her (lol again)..thank you again Rosie and GB. Alfredomaraw (talk) 11:43, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Amazing!

Rosie, I'm really amazed at your energy and increasing activity as demonstrated for exemple here. I used to be forced to travel all over the world but now enjoy the peace and quite of retirement. Please keep us informed of your future ventures.--Ipigott (talk) 17:43, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for noticing, Ipigott. I have a few more wiki conferences this year and I'll drop a note as they occur. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:14, 6 September 2023 (UTC)

Kitten Magee

Thanks for the review! =) BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 10:52, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

BoomboxTestarossa - Cool character (Kitten Magee)! --Rosiestep (talk) 11:01, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
Always disappointed she didn't get to go much further; who knows, maybe someone will see the page and revive her! =D BoomboxTestarossa (talk) 11:45, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Hola. Started this to fill in a red link. There's some more bios which turned up as red links, though at least one is a BLP. This also looks an interesting source..♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:17, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Muchas gracias, Dr. Blofeld. This put a big smile on my face. Happy that Raquel Olea is linked in 1 more article and that there are useful new redlinks in the org article. Indeed, what a source; have just started reading it... --Rosiestep (talk) 13:47, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Cool. I was reading on Spanish Wikipedia and my reading of it is so good now I didn't think it would be much effort to translate something! I ought to translate more articles from other Wikipedias more regularly as part of my language reading, but if it's a big article it's time consuming to source it, particularly if you have to chase up uncited claims! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:52, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Dr. Blofeld - Yup. So it narrows down the articles I choose to translate to be the ones that I can readily find refs for anything that's uncited. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:03, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Always great to see Dr. Blofeld contributing again. Happy to see fluency in Spanish is proving an asset.--Ipigott (talk) 18:16, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Ian, I appreciate your kind words! I haven't done much work on the languages over the summer, I'll get back into it now the weather is getting cooler and will try to translate a few a week! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:57, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

intertranswiki reference bot

Rosie, Ipigott, SusunW and any other page stalkers, I've brought up the idea of an intertranswiki reference bot at the village pump here. I'm not expecting it to be successful, but thought it was worth bringing up if any of you want to comment. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:29, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

I get what you're saying. It would be nice if a bot could do the translation automatically. Ergo, commonly, I just take the ref's URL and run it through the EN-WP citation maker. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:47, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Looks like a good idea for those who develop biographies on the basis of word-for-word translations. As I think you know, I nearly always draw on a number of additional sources and create a completely new biography, even if the subject has already been covered in another Wikipedia language. I think nevertheless that there might be a case for facilitating translations not just of Wikipedia articles but of sources quoted. It can be quite a laborious process to turn up, for example, Google translate and copy URLs into to their website item. Same for Yandex, etc. This would be particularly useful for reviewing articles in languages such as Japanese or Finnish (and making things easier for AfC reviewers).--Ipigott (talk) 13:35, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
Sorry, I now see this is exactly what you are suggesting. Great idea!--Ipigott (talk) 13:39, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
I think this is what m:WikiCite (a proposed sister project) is all about, e.g., easily using a reference across all language Wikipedias, e.g., just like images from Wikimedia Commons. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:02, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
Sorry Dr. Blofeld, I have been away. Literally just arrived home after 19 hours of traveling yesterday. The whole family met in Oklahoma to celebrate mom's 90th. It'll take me a few days to get back in the swing of things. SusunW (talk) 13:51, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
So happy for you, SusunW, that you could be with your mom for her 90th. Wow! BTW, Dr. Blofeld, following your link to the village pump, they mention AnomieBOT, but I've never used it. If others have experience with it, would be interested to know how it works for them. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:56, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
Hi Susun! Tulsa? I just tried a source from German Wikipedia Rosie and to my surprise it recognized Template:Internetquelle and formatted it into a citation, but if I clicked save I'm pretty sure the bot wouldn't update it and convert the parameters into English. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:54, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
Thanks Rosie. Dr. Blofeld, flew in and out of Tulsa, but we were actually in Muskogee. I am an actual Okie from Muskogee, just haven't lived there in 40 years. SusunW (talk) 20:21, 27 September 2023 (UTC)
