April songs
my story today |
My story today is about the Alchymic Quartet, - I went away from DYK but it's the last one from last year. - The songs are about vacation, continued. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:41, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
- Cool name, "Alchymic Quartet". --Rosiestep (talk) 18:48, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Cool story, don't miss the pic in the program of the chemist and the composer playing duo when one was the other's teacher ;) - I made an exception from my DYK abstinence for Good Friday, - see my story today. Interesting to compare a hook 2023 style to one in 2012 (see my story today). - I sang, including chorales from Bach's greatest Passion. I recently listened to one by Homilius: a discovery! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:57, 7 April 2023 (UTC)
- I managed another day of vacation pics, no animals though, just getting wet --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:15, 8 April 2023 (UTC)

- I'm having coffee and yogurt for breakfast while looking at your newest photos. The lamb chops look delicious. I made this "Pr 17, Encumeada, Madeira, small plants in drizzling water" my Desktop Background of the day. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:30, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
- That's so cool! - I loved to see Marian Anderson and her story of protest against discrimination by singing on Easter Sunday 9 April 1939 on the Main page yesterday. Impressions of Easter here and music here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:37, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- My story today, Messiah (Handel), was my first dip into the FA ocean, thanks to great colleagues. - a few pics added, even the favourite cat, one day missing --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:25, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda, how nice to have those colleagues. I've never ventured into that ocean. It's beyond me. Lovely cat; just sunning itself on the pavement. BTW, like so many others, I love Handel's Messiah. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:27, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- The cat I mean is about to jump, last day. - Of the colleagues, one died and the other speaks with me only when he has to, sigh. Did I tell you that he wrote a FA on a man, and I about his wife? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:40, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
- Today is the 80th birthday of John Eliot Gardiner. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:38, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda - Happy Birthday to JEG! Quite accomplished, isn't he? Lots of awards. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:01, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- I'm more impressed by this pilgrimage, performing Bach's cantatas (around 200) in churches all over Europe over a full year (in liturgical order), - what dedication, not only his but having to inspire singers - players recording personnel! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:05, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- Indeed, that also: dedicated and inspirational. --Rosiestep (talk) 10:32, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- ... while this is short high publicity --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:53, 20 April 2023 (UTC)
- pics updated a bit, and today the last birthday story of four days in a row, including the woman who was pictured with the slogan "Can women think?" - remember? ... and my brother, and today also the woman he is going to marry (who has an article but that's a bit too private, especially as in the future). I am happy about giving attention to Irma Blank who was born where I was born ;) - DYK that 23 April is Der kleine Tag? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:32, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- Irma was an interesting woman; RIP. I always learn new things from your links, Gerda; thanks for that. The stuffed chicken breast looks yummy! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:15, 23 April 2023 (UTC)
- ... and they got married ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:42, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- Today's pretty cat is in their honor. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:09, 26 April 2023 (UTC)
- lovely, and today's cat is sooo expressive, even the pic title File:Larry the cat standing on gravel and gently pulling on a wool string in Auderghem, Belgium (DSCF2328) (2017; cropped 2023).jpg! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:01, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, G. Larry's expression is priceless and his original uploader did him justice with the file name. It's going to be hard for me to switch him out for some other cat. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:22, 28 April 2023 (UTC)

Article assessments
Sorry for first upsetting your non-editable archive page before seeing I need to post here. In connection with the last item on that page, I thought I should let you know that as there have been lots of related problems, I've been in touch with Village pump where they explained that these were due to an editing error which has now been corrected. All remaining incorrectly unassessed-listed talk pages should disappear over the next few days, including most of those under Women writers articles. They result from a problem with redirects but this has also been solved and all those marked NA should disappear soon.--Ipigott (talk) 08:25, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- Ipigott - For clarity/continuity, I've pulled the archived section back into my talkpage and pasted it below.
- Thanks for all the follow-up on this issue. I read through the entirety of Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Article assessments, including FA and GA, gone missing on WMFlabs tools, as I saw that WomenArtistUpdates had also commented. Do you think it would be helpful to mention the issue in the Women in Red talkpage as others might also be puzzled by what's been happening? --Rosiestep (talk) 13:59, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
- If any questions are raised there, we can explain what has been happening. In any case, as the updates continue, everything should be back to normal within a few days.--Ipigott (talk) 16:43, 3 April 2023 (UTC)
Women Writers assessments
Hi there, Rosie. I see you assessed Catherine Corless in August 2020 but it is now listed as unassessed. There are similar problems with, Fall on Your Knees, Larissa Kelly, Eswyn Lyster, Charlotte Roche and Vijayarajamallika, all of which you also rated. Maybe you know someone who could sort this out.--Ipigott (talk) 07:09, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Three of these are now "assessed" (although no editing changes were made) while Larissa Kelly, Eswyn Lyster, and Vijayarajamallika remain unassessed. Maybe the others will also be OK over the next day or two. So it's probably best just to wait and see what happens.--Ipigott (talk) 05:45, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Ipigott, all seem to be OK now, but quite odd that some, for a bit, were listed as unassessed. Thanks for noticing and mentioning. --Rosiestep (talk) 10:57, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- All except one for me, as far as I can see. I thought it was particularly strange that they were all assessed by you two or three years ago. Now that things are starting to work again, it was probably not worth bring this to your attention. If future, I'll wait a few days before I alert on such matters.--Ipigott (talk) 11:19, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Ipigott, no worries. Glad you noticed something was amiss. Maybe there will be similar issues in the future, so good to note them when you see them. Thanks again. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:22, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

- As far as I can see, at least for Women writers, the problems seemed to have been resolved. See for example the unassessed column under Category:Unassessed Women writers articles.--Ipigott (talk) 10:23, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the follow-up, Ipigott. I still don't understand how the issue occurred in the first place, but happy that it's resolved, at least for WP:WPWW. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:55, 6 April 2023 (UTC)

Thanks and a couple of questions (re: Maria Cristina Didero)
Hello Rosiestep, thank you for your rating ("C" no less!) of and improvements to the recently added article about Maria Cristina Didero (which is still very much a work in progress). I'm leaving this note here rather than on the Talk page of the article itself because my query is of a more general nature. I hope I've got the protocol correct. I have two questions that I hope you might help answer:
- What is the purpose of the insertion of the
|ref=none/
parameter in the citations? I read a little about HarvErrors, but this is a tad above my level of technical knowledge. (I'm still getting up to speed with the proper formatting of these templates, so really, I suppose I'm also asking: is this something I should use systematically or is it a special case?) - Regarding the change from "Early life and education" and " Work and career" sections to one "Biography" section, I was unable find anything in the MOS that speaks to this. Quite a few articles that I have read and/or worked on use the former option, so I tend towards this usage by default. The latter seems less precise, so I was a bit surprised to see the edit. (Again, is this something I should be doing?) In the same breath, also curious why you removed the
{{Expand section|date=April 2023}}
template. I had placed this in the hope that someone might come along and add a bit more depth to the summary information that I was able to locate.
Thanks again for your edits, and I do hope it's ok to ask for your help here. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 17:44, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Cl3phact0, and thanks for stopping by.
- Regarding the C-class rating, I have a couple of scripts installed that give me some indications about an article's rating based on WP:ORES; in this case, the predicted quality was C (2.97). I always take that info with a grain of salt and peruse the article myself. In this case, in addition to the prose, this biography contains an extensive "Publications" section and also an "External links" section. I believe that's why ORES predicted -and I concurred- that a C-class rating was warranted. Also, to be transparent, I've reviewed thousands (really) of women writer biographies (I'm the founder of WP:WPWW), so that experience is useful. (Maybe a pagestalker can provide a link to the scripts.)
- Regarding
|ref=none
: I have a script installed that shows Harv warning in bold markup next to books and journals that use the cite template but aren't cited in the article. Commonly, this is noticed in "Publications" sections. By adding|ref=none
, you don't get the Harv warning. (Maybe a pagestalker can provide a link to the script.) - Regarding headers in biographies: Including ones for "Early life and education", "Career", "Personal life"/"Death and legacy" is common, but if info is limited (e.g., in the case of the Didero article, the "Early life and education" had only 2 sentences), then condensing into 1 section ("Biography") makes for smoother reading, especially in mobile view.
- That said... none of these are die-hard-rules. Editors are warmly welcome to make changes/improvements so please WP:BEBOLD and revert/add/delete anything as you see fit. Also, please feel free to stop by and ask more questions about the Didero article or other articles in the future. Lastly, thanks for what you do around here! --Rosiestep (talk) 22:08, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, Rosiestep. Very helpful information. I'll try to put it to good use.
- WPWW is quite a mammoth project indeed. Complimenti..! (English: Gulp, wow..!) I'll pay attention now that I'm aware of it, and contribute where I'm able. In fact, I suppose I already have (inadvertently) in some small way by helping to get the Maria Cristina Didero and Marva Griffin Carter articles published. I'll add any other writers that I come across who are not represented in this encyclopaedia to the appropriate section of the project (I have a few on my WiR list already, though I'm mostly working on biographies of artists, architects, designers, and adjacent subjects).
- Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:42, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Cl3phact0, nice list! Glad you're here. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:27, 13 April 2023 (UTC)
Hi, I see you have reviewed the article I translated from the French Wikipedia, so is the article good enough for A-class? I think it is, what do you think? Dancing Dollar (let's talk) 20:37, 11 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for stopping by, Dancing Dollar, and nice job with the translation. I reviewed the article within the scope of WP:NPP, that is to say,
New page reviewing is mainly about deciding whether a new article will be marked as approved and accepting it into Wikipedia, or initiating one of several deletion procedures.
So, yup, I didn't WP:PROD it. ;) As for how I would rate it, IMO, it's WP:BCLASS, not WP:ACLASS. One relatively easy improvement, just by way of example, would be to convert the article's green links to blue. Good luck! And thanks for what you do around here. --Rosiestep (talk) 21:04, 11 April 2023 (UTC)

- As the founder of WP:WPWW, I admit my own bias towards articles about women writers and their works. But it's interesting to see this biography be taken to AfD for the second time. While for sure, all articles can be improved, the comment on the AfD page by SouthernNights (
I didn't realize until now...
) seems on point. What really catches my attention, though, is that the article has had 631 pageviews in the last 90 days. I know we don't use pageviews as a measure of WP:N, but IMO, the article has some amount of relevancy in today's society, so I'm glad I made the effort to translate it from DE-WP, no matter what the outcome of the AfD might be. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:26, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
women writers
The whole time I was writing about Mary Zirin she made me think of you and uncovering unknown women writers. While I was searching for sources about her with the wikilibrary, I noticed they have added a collection on the Women Writers Project at Northeastern University. Did you know about it? SusunW (talk) 21:47, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, SusunW; that is so nice to hear. :) And no, I didn't know about it (wikilibrary collection on the Women Writers Project at Northeastern University). How do I access that collection via wikilibrary (I don't know that I have wikilibrary access anymore...)? --Rosiestep (talk) 21:56, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- You have it because you only have to have 500 edits. Go here, (you may have to sign in) and you will see all the collections you can access. Xcroll down to the W's. It's mostly in alphabetic order. Push the access button and search. SusunW (talk) 22:02, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- Looking it over now with a big smile on my face. Didn't realize that it was so easy to access all good stuff in the wikilibrary! Thanks, SusunW. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:13, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- You are very welcome, Rosie. Glad to be able to help. SusunW (talk) 22:24, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
- SusunW, I was just looking at View History of Mary Zirin's biography and I noticed you used a script called "User:Ohconfucius/dashes.js". If I were to install it (there's an install button on the page), what does it do? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:02, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- It fixes hyphens and makes them en dashes. I use a Spanish keyboard, configured to English format and if there is such a key as an en dash, I have no clue where to find it. (Em dash on the other hand is auto converted by typing two hyphens.) Besides which, it interrupts my typing flow. So I just type hyphens and use the script to fix it. SusunW (talk) 15:14, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, I've installed it -- and figured out how to use it! Pays to be curious. :) Thanks, SusunW! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:33, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

What does this mean: ref= none
Dear Rosiestep, i thought i followed the cite-book-rules and now i find this ref=none you had to add to avoid some "conflict"? I didn't see any formatting in the template of cite books... could you please explain, what i did wrong and what the ref=none does? Kind regards, Naomi Hennig (talk) 00:04, 22 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Naomi Hennig, and thanks for stopping by. I have a script installed which shows "Harv errors" on a page in blaringly bold, black letters. "Harv errors" are most common when the editor uses the "cite book"/"cite journal"/"cite ..." templates in Bibliography and Further reading sections, e.g., without
<ref></ref>
. To disable the error message, you simply add|ref=none
into that citation. More info here (Category:Harv and Sfn template errors) and here ({{Citation}}). P.S. I recommend installing one of the scripts mentioned in these info links so that you can readily see "Harv errors". Cheers and happy editing. --Rosiestep (talk) 00:26, 22 April 2023 (UTC)- This is so amazing to me. I'm writing for wikipedia for more than 10 years and i've never known about this. Will take me a while to read through your links. I hope, I'll understand it. Kind regards and thank you! --Naomi Hennig (talk) 01:11, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

May songs
my story today |
---|
I had a good story on coronation day: the Te Deum we sang that day (mentioned before). And the following day we sang it for the composer ;) - And today we remember a composer who created music especially for us! -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Gerda! Thank you for the start of "May songs" and for your "story today". Always happy to hear about what you're working on. I returned home yesterday from a week in maritime Southeast Asia. Beautiful location, delicious food, lots of learnings about local history and culture. As always, took photos; as always, rarely get around to uploading them to Wikimedia Commons. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:09, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, - that sounds great. I spent less time in Asia than all other continents. - I managed uploading more pics of pleasant music (heard today!), - did you know a string quartet with two cellos (and no article yet in English? - Latest cat summary was just wonderful ;) - Between last weekend with 33 personal guests to our concert and this one with apple blossom and string music, there were four (!) recent deaths to take care of, two of them legends. I nominated underrated Soňa Červená for GA just to get a bit extra exposure, - we'll see how it goes. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:02, 14 May 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - Thank you for sharing the article about Soňa; glad to have learned about her. More travel next week and I am scrambling to prepare for that. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:29, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
- thank you, - next important woman Maria Mies, and SusunW did it all while I biked and took pics --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:42, 20 May 2023 (UTC)
- more pics, also new memory and music, and ten years ago I had a DYK for my most serious article --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:16, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Pentecost was full of music, and my story today is that 300 years ago today, Bach became Thomaskantor, with BWV 75, writing music history. - All cats I saw over the weekend were too fast ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:24, 30 May 2023 (UTC)
- Glad to hear that your Pentecost was full of music. I saw a few cats during my travels last week, but like yours, they were too fast. I was looking for one in particular at a restaurant that I had last frequented in 2019, but alas, the kitty didn't live there anymore. --Rosiestep (talk) 09:39, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

I like today's Main page, and here's why ;) - (DYK that we got filmed when performing the piece mentioned?) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:12, 2 June 2023 (UTC)
Last weekend was nice, class reunion a funny number of years after completing school, and the lovely park where I spent many Sundays as a child. Today's story is about a quite dramatic woman, there's a yt trailer to the hook. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:09, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - Happy to hear about your class reunion. Also, loved looking at the photos and enjoyed reading about Aile. --Rosiestep (talk) 16:19, 5 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! - 11 June or: Music not only by Bach. I even got a cat, and the next road to "Katzengraben" mentioned earlier, - just a bit unconnected to my stories. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt Nice B&W cat. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 06:59, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Jörg Widmann is 50, and I began Stockholm pics (no cat). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - "... third most performed contemporary composer in the world...": wow! Hope it's a nice visit to Stockholm. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:37, 19 June 2023 (UTC)
- Today's story is about a singer whom I saw twice, not Wagner and Strauss, but Bach and Weill, and most obits come with her in Widmann's opera! - Vacation was nice, more pics (but not all) uploaded, goats, reindeer, moose - no cat. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:20, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - The pictures are lovely. Multiple are eye-catching, but "Azeleas and rhododendron" is my favorite. Now, I know I'm being silly, but after seeing the goose and the moose, it came to me that The goose and the moose could be a catchy title of a children's book. Glad you had a good time. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:23, 21 June 2023 (UTC)
- Actually, moose and goose may have problems to look into each other's eyes ;) - I read a children's story about a frog who rescues a baby bird, only the baby grows into - a stork. - Today, the story is ten years old, the Main page had three great people who recently died, and I invite you to look at two videos around concerts I heard, in the short one actually seen in the background. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:46, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- Do you know a children's book "When Moose Was Young"? - Today: a woman caught by the iron curtain (improved with SusunW and GRuban), yesterday: the Mass in B minor, heard in concert then, three musical videos are out, and more vacation pics. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:08, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- Gerda Arendt - Nope; don't know of that book. I'll check out the links you've left here after I return home from vacation. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:49, 29 June 2023 (UTC)

It appears you have re-added the reference to 'alchetron' to the Rosita Rodrigo article. Please note that this site copies older versions of Wikipedia pages (in this case, the 2017 version of the Vedette (cabaret) article). They give attribution at the bottom of the page. - Hi Sam Kuru. Sorry that I missed noting that, and thanks for the fix. --Rosiestep (talk) 05:53, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

- Namiba, I did make a comment in the category's entry, but want to reiterate here that this category is for laureates of an international award. I can't imagine why someone would want to delete it. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:54, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Request for Clarification
Thank you for reviewing Elif Çomoğlu Ülgen, I would want to seek your opinion or review on Mustafa Gültepe especially as regards notability. I’m seeking a second opinion after a editor who I deem a superior to me here added the tag. I will appreciate your input + or -. Kind regards. TEB001 (talk) 07:56, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi TEB001. I try to do a little bit at WP:NPP each week. I don't review a lot of BLPs. However, I was comfortable reviewing the article on an Ambassador, e.g. Ülgen. BLP businesspeople, e.g. Gültepe, are not my cup of tea; ditto, BLP athletes, BLP actors, etc. Happy editing, and feel free to stop by anytime. --Rosiestep (talk) 11:54, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
