Cunningham

Wishing you a very good first day of 2013, followed on all through the year happiness and prosperity. May like to nominate Mount Cunningham and John Crabbe Cunningham today and also Kulap. Yes, we will continue to contribute to DYK in a big way.--Nvvchar. 01:33, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the noms'. I will probably start on the 15 article hook of Group of Temples of Mahabalipuram which I had mentioned a few months back, on my user page in the same manner as you did for Laos articles. You have done QPQs for five articles under Laos DYK. I will also start doing a few. But the articles do not seem to be getting any attention from reviewers. I am feeling much better today and my laptop has also started working well. Cheers.--Nvvchar. 06:24, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

We will work on the user pages and not on the main articles with redlinks. The articles can be be with the hook ...that the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram of the Pallava Period consist of the Pancha Rathas of Dharmaraja Ratha, Arjuna Ratha, Bhima Ratha, Draupadi Ratha , Nakula Shadeva Ratha, Ganesha Ratha Cave Temples of Varaha Cave Temple, Krishna Cave Temple, Mahishasura Mardhini Cave temple, Pandava Cave Temple, Shore Temple, and the Descent of Ganges which is a unique and largest open-air bas-relief in the world? The articles which area already there (only four) will also be expanded in the user pages as I have enough references to do that. I could not do much on creating these user pages today as got busy with some other work.--Nvvchar. 17:29, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

Yikes. Hadn't seen this. I've left some articles on Nvv's page for you two for Cambodia and Indonesia. You might also add a bit for Luis Ortega Brú. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 22:19, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

  • Please see the final reviewer observations on Mount Jackson (Antarctica). I have made some addtitions to the text. Refrence 7 may have some more and I cannot find the text part of this book as only front page is displayed. I hope my additions are OK and you could add more and reply. There is also one reference stated to be unreliable. I could not locate it. I have seen the user boxes created for Mabahalipura and I hope add the text this evening.Thanks.--Nvvchar. 06:22, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

After the expansion, the reviewer has raised some basic observations about the lead in Mount Jackson (Antarctica). Can you have look and see what best can be done on this, please. I was busy working on four articles that Dr. B posted for expansion. I have completed them and you may like to nominate. I hope to work on Mahabalipuram articles today Thanks.--Nvvchar. 04:34, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for c/e of Mount Jackson. I could not find any more text to add after an intensive search with alternate names. Sorry for the embarrassment created. If the reviewer wants to add and make it 5x (he had volunteered to do so in his initial review) we could make a note to that effect on the DYK page. Yesterday evening I was tempted to add to the Martin's Cave (Though I expressed my reservations to Dr B. about working on Gibraltor related articles) and worked till 2 AM but could add only some text from the book reference. I have added a little more today. It needs one more reference. I have also started working on Varaha, which you may also like to edit. I will be working full time now on the Mahabalipuram articles. Could you kindly help me with c/e of Vidyasagar Setu, which is under GA review. I will add some more text on the latest news about the bridge. Thanks--Nvvchar. 07:01, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Yes, I will. I have posted five new articles on DYK on 1st January date, one is in the Gibraltar special section. Can you kindly do a few QPQs? I am too tired today. Also, shall I make a request for the reviewer to add in case he finds some text to Mount Jackosn, Antartica. --Nvvchar. 17:45, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
I have added all that I could find for the four articles of Denmark for further processing and editing. --Nvvchar. 06:29, 7 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for noms. I have posted the replies on review of Laos articles. I hope it will go through now. --Nvvchar. 03:07, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
Please see the final review and alt hook suggested by Graeme Barlett. I feel that we should accept it as per rules of DYK. Let me know.--Nvvchar. 04:33, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Marcelle Auclair - ready for you to look again

Hi Rosiestep, thanks for your recent DYK review of Marcelle Auclair at Template:Did you know nominations/Marcelle Auclair. I've now inserted the QPQ. I also took the liberty of adding images to the article (plus a couple of tiny copy-edits, otherwise article is unchanged). I then offered two ALT hooks with images (otherwise they are the same hook as the original). Barring unexpected problems, I think it should be quick to update your review and, hopefully, give the go-symbol. I am also interested in your opinion about which of the 3 hooks you think is most interesting/best. Many thanks again for your review, and happy 2013! -- Presearch (talk) 19:57, 2 January 2013 (UTC)

Cool. I sourced Undløse Church earlier. Will look at the others now.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 17:05, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

I'll try to do so work on your church articles but am rather pushed for time at the moment. There are of course a huge number of interesting Danish churches which deserve coverage but it certainly seems to be a good idea to start with those that are red linked in other articles. I was rather surprised at some of the statements in the Norwegian article you used for Undløse Church, particularly the passage on the font. I have a feeling the sentence may have been mistakenly copied over from another article. The German article seems to have been far better researched. I'll try to sort it all out today from Danish sources. As for your question on the style of church names, I think the problem starts with differences between American and British English. Americans usually use a period after abbreviations such as Mr., Dr., St., whereas Brits simply write Mr, Dr, St and so on. That's why churches in England use the style St Mary, etc. (see Category:16th-century Church of England church buildings) while in the U.S. they all start with St. (see Category:Episcopal churches in Washington, D.C.). In the case of Denmark, St without the period seems to be the usual style (see Category:Churches in Bornholm), probably because most of the articles were created by Brits or by Danes who are usually more familiar with British English. I don't think the full form Saint is used in the names of churches. So personally I would suggest we keep to St rather than St. but others (including the Americanophile Dr. Blofeld) may well disagree. --Ipigott (talk) 10:20, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Can you expand the articles in James Dredge, also start the preacher [1].♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:52, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

I think Undløse Church is more or less OK now. Turned out to be a very interesting article. Still a bit more to do on the others. --Ipigott (talk) 10:26, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

Great detective work! We must start the bridges, this image might be public domain.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 11:06, 7 January 2013 (UTC)

In the next 5 days if you or Nvv feel like expanding any of Gaulden Manor, Tom MacIntyre, Eugene O'Brien (playwright), Jean-Claude Auvray, Anthony Besch, John Cox, Peter Ebert, John Fulljames, Stefan Janski, Keith Warner, Charles Edwards, John Stoddart, Joe Vaněk. Ugo, re d'Italia or Peter G. Davis go for it! If not, no worries.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

OK, whatever you feel like, the intention is not to expand them all but take your pick, I'm having a rather productive day stubbing..♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 15:46, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

I have added a section on Layout plan explaining the image also inserted in Undløse Church. I have requested Ipigott to also check the translation from German. You may like to see. My effort to learn German ended 55 years ago as I found Grammar very tough like Sanskrit.--Nvvchar. 15:54, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Hi Rosiestep, this is a message to let you know I have started evaluation of Template:Did you know nominations/Provinces of Laos. A number of issues remain, sourcing and hook citation. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:48, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Graeme Barlett has approved 13 of the 17 articles and has suggested an alternate hook for the same. Can you kindly check the expansion (about 19,000 ch) of Sainyabuli Province with the original (about 8,700 ch)? It may still be eligible with 5x. After that you may like to reply accepting the Alt hook. Thanks. --Nvvchar. 11:39, 9 January 2013 (UTC)

Article suggestion

Hi, do you think either you or one of your frequent collaborators might be able to put together an article on the Romanov Tercentenary? The centenary of the tercentenary's start is coming up in March, and it's actually quite a gap in our coverage - a major event not even mentioned, as far as I can see, at House of Romanov, Nicholas II of Russia or History of Russia (1892–1917). It seems like there's also a 400th anniversary celebration coming up. Anyway, I'll let you look into the feasibility of doing something on this. It might make for a nice DYK. - Biruitorul Talk 23:04, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Well, I can read the letters, but that's not too useful so long as I can't understand the words! And I'm not sure who our more active Russian speakers are nowadays, though a couple would certainly come in handy. Anyway, thanks for starting it, and while I can't promise any specific work, I'll be cheering you, Nvvchar and the Doctor as the stub swells to the gargantuan works we've gotten accustomed to seeing from you guys. - Biruitorul Talk 04:44, 11 January 2013 (UTC)

Danish Culture Canon

I've started an article on the interesting 2006 Danish Culture Canon which covers a total of 108 works in all fields of culture. I've already added the lists on architecture and the visual arts and will add the others as soon as I have handled the translations. You will see however that there are quite a few red links which call for biographies and descriptions of the works themselves. Maybe you would like to help out? I thought perhaps the best approach would be to cover architecture first and then move on but if you are tempted by any particular area, please go ahead. The Norwegian article at no:Danmarks_kulturkanon has links to virtually all the items in Norwegian although some of the articles are very brief. Please let me know if you are interested and, if so, which articles you would like to make a start on. --Ipigott (talk) 13:19, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Good start. I'll try to expand on the article tomorrow but I first want to complete the sections of the canon. --Ipigott (talk) 21:34, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

As I've now added all the areas of the canon, I can now start looking at the individual articles. I'm working on Hover Church and think you (or whoever you translated) have confused the Hover Church near Vejle with the one near Ringkøbing. I'll try to sort it out. --Ipigott (talk) 12:31, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Just shows how important referencing is. It was the Hover Church near Vejle that was decorated by Mogens Jørgensen. See this for example. But don't worry. You're doing a great job! --Ipigott (talk) 16:53, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
That's the one and here are all the pretty pictures you mentioned. It's really strange how similar the two churches are, both without towers. But I don't think we need to bother about Hover Church, Vejle at the moment. You have probably noticed I've more or less completed the Culture Canon lists -- so there's lots to choose from. We should probably concentrate on architecture, visual arts, film and some of the score music as much of the rest is Dano-danois as the French would say. --Ipigott (talk) 21:44, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

Have started articles on Christian Joseph Zuber and Rudolph Rothe. Anything of interest in English? --Ipigott (talk) 16:42, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

Sorry to hear about your foot. Hope it's not causing you too much trouble. Don't worry about the Canon articles. There'll be many more to work on in the futre. Maybe you would like to embark on one or two from Visual Arts while I try to tie up the section on architecture? I think there's some interesting material to be covered there. Very impressed by the Alaska articles. They make interesting reading. --Ipigott (talk) 07:13, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia Ambassadors update

Hi! You're getting this message because you are or have been a Wikipedia Ambassador. A new term is beginning for the United States and Canada Education Programs, and I wanted to give you an update on some important new information if you're interested in continuing your work this term as a Wikipedia Ambassador.

You may have heard a reference to a transition the education program is going through. This is the last term that the Wikimedia Foundation will directly run the U.S. and Canada programs; beginning in June, a proposed thematic organization is likely to take over organizing the program. You can read more about the proposal here.

Another major change in the program will take effect immediately. Beginning this term, a new MediaWiki education extension will replace all course pages and Ambassador lists. (See Wikipedia:Course pages and Help:Education Program extension for more details.) Included in the extension are online volunteer and campus volunteer user rights, which let you create and edit course pages and sign up as an ambassador for a particular course.

If you would like to continue serving as a Wikipedia Ambassador — even if you do not support a class this term — you must create an ambassador profile. If you're no longer interested in being a Wikipedia Ambassador, you don't need to do anything.

Please do these steps as soon as possible

First, you need the relevant user rights for Online and/or Campus Ambassadors. (If you are an admin, you can grant the rights yourself, for you as well as other ambassadors.) Just post your rights request here, and we'll get you set up as quickly as possible.

Once you've got the ambassador rights, please set up at a Campus and/or Online Ambassador profile. You can do so at:

Going forward, the lists of Ambassadors at Special:CampusAmbassadors and Special:OnlineAmbassadors will be the official roster of who is an active Ambassador. If you would like to be an Ambassador but not ready to serve this term, you can un-check the option in your profile to publicly list it (which will remove your profile from the list).

After that, you can sign on to support courses. The list of courses will be at Special:Courses. (By default, this lists "Current" courses, but you can change the Status filter to "Planned" to see courses for this term that haven't reached their listed start date yet.)

As this is the first term we have used the extension, we know there will be some bugs, and we know the feature set is not as rich as it could be. (A big wave of improvements is already in the pipeline. And if you know MediaWiki and could help with code review, we'd love to have your help!) Please reach out to me (Sage Ross) with any complaints, bug reports, and feature suggestions. The basic features of the extension are documented at Wikipedia:Course pages, and you can see a tutorial for setting up and using them here.

Communication and keeping up to date

In the past, the Education Program has had a pretty fragmented set of communication channels. We're trying to fix that. These are the recommended places to discuss and stay up-to-date on the education program:

  1. The education noticeboard has become the main on-wiki location for discussion of the Education Program. You can post there about broad education program issues as well as issues with individual courses.
  2. The Ambassadors Announce email list is a very low-traffic announcements list of important information all Ambassadors need to be aware of. We encourage all Ambassadors (and other interested Wikipedians) to subscribe to the list; follow the instructions on the link to add your email address.
  3. If you use IRC regularly, or need to try to reach someone immediately, the #wikipedia-en-ambassadors connect IRC channel is the place to find me and fellow Ambassadors.
Ambassador training and resources

We now have an online training for Ambassadors, which is intended to be both an orientation about the Wikipedia Ambassador role for newcomers and the manual for how to do the role. (There are parallel trainings for students and for educators as well.)

Please go through the training if you feel like you need a refresher on how a typical class is supposed to go and where the Ambassadors fit in, or if you want to review and help improve it. If there's something you'd like to see added, or other suggestions you have for it, feel free to edit the training and/or leave feedback. A primer on setting up and using course pages is included in the educators' training.

The Resources page of the training is the main place for Ambassador-related resources. If there's something you think is important as a resource that's not on there, please add it.

Finally, whether or not you work with any classes this term, I encourage you to post entries to the Trophy Case whenever you see excellent work from students or if you have great examples from past semesters. And, as always, let students (and other editors!) know when they do things well; a little WikiLove goes a long way!

Started on it. Can you look at User:CambridgeBayWeather/Sandbox and tell me which one looks the best. I'm thinking that Architecture 3 and Visual arts look the best as the work stands out beside the creator. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 23:15, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

It's done. I tag Per Nielsen as he is a soccer player and I couldn't tell if it was the same one as wrote the work, Danse i måneskin. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 13:56, 20 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. Glad you liked it. Thanks for the coffee and danish. CambridgeBayWeather (talk) 23:53, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Still working on Frederik V (almost finished) and then I'll expand Jason. After that, if there are no further emergenies, I'll see what I can do with Viggo Stuckenberg. Thanks for your continuing interest in Danish culture. You seem to be developing quite a bit of expertise on all things Danish. --Ipigott (talk) 07:26, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. You might also like to look at the designer Knud V. Engelhardt. --Ipigott (talk) 07:33, 23 January 2013 (UTC) I also seen Thorvald Bindesbøll needs expanding if you are interested. --Ipigott (talk) 11:53, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Murder Cove

Hello! Your submission of Murder Cove at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! – Muboshgu (talk) 01:44, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks, Rosie. I have started expanding Tabo Monastery now. I am sorry that the Mahabalipurm articles are stalled because of me loosing the initiative for some reason or the other. I hope I will get back to them soon.--Nvvchar. 17:30, 20 January 2013 (UTC}

Mai apse sehmat hoo! I agree with you.--Nvvchar. 17:43, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

It is in Hindi langauge, which means "I endorse your views".--Nvvchar. 17:53, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

I suppose that the expansion of Tabo Monastery is now 5x. Pl check.--Nvvchar. 10:51, 21 January 2013 (UTC)
I have done c/e of Tabo and I have also completed my inputs to the three Hemenway articles (no imgs could be located) and four Dutch articles of the Ten Kates and others.--Nvvchar. 14:31, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
May be it is better to nominate each article separately as there are very few users who have time to review multi-article hook.--Nvvchar. 17:38, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the nominations. I enjoyed doing these articles. Can I insert an img of the Hokohom cultural monument or the girl holding a pot on her head in the hook in the Hemenway articles? You know that I can't count the chs correctly? About the reference, I really missed it. Sorry about it.--Nvvchar. 05:27, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, I will add an img and also do one or two QPQs. Please see if Tabo is OK.--Nvvchar. 05:44, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I have proposed an alt hook for the double article hook on expedition as I found the text to suit the img. I hope you don't mind. One of the Ten Kate articles may be short of 5x. I appreciate if you please check it before nomination. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 16:43, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Nome'd Tabo Monastery. May like to suggest an Alt hook.--Nvvchar. 05:45, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
If text in bullets is not counted then it may be better to convert it into prose form in Lambert ten Kate.--Nvvchar. 05:56, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for my snail-like response to the Hemenway articles, I've not been "encyclopedic" the last few days. I've given Hemenway Southwestern Archaeological Expedition a copyedit, two citations are needed. Will look at the others shortly. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:01, 24 January 2013 (UTC)
  • Thanks. I will do some QPQs. Can you add some more text to the Purang-Guge kingdom article? I will work on Tholing monastery today. I have all the text.

I've put some more citations in and replied at Template:Did you know nominations/Hessian cuisine. Thanks for the review! Smurrayinchester 22:39, 20 January 2013 (UTC)

Translating

I know you do a lot of translating other language Wikipedia articles into English. I am interested in translating some French language articles, not because I am brilliant at French but because of the way the new scoring system for the WikiCup benefits certain articles that I have identified. I recently did Plogonnec as a first try. What concerns me is that in DYK, they demand at least one inline citation per paragraph but foreign (and English) language Wikipedia articles are often incompletely referenced. Often the article concerned has useful information but one is reluctant to use it because it is unreferenced. Is there a solution to this? How do you proceed when you translate articles destined for DYK? Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:19, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your comprehensive reply. I can see you make a very thorough job of generating such English language pages and producing quality articles on diverse subjects. I don't think I would work on translations from choice, being very happy in my present natural history niche, but hope to work on some later in the year when the WikiCup competition hots up. We could try a collaboration but I can see you are very much a part of a collaborating group already. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 06:08, 24 January 2013 (UTC)

Well done Rosie. I'll edit Tholing and Purang tomorrow, thankyou for that. I've started on Rio Grande da Serra. We could expand a few of the national park stubs I started ages ago and any of the municipalities or whatever takes you fancy for our Brazil entries for the A-Z. Namling might interest you both.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 01:01, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks Rosiestep for managing to get all these on DYK. I must say, though, that I was rather disappointed with the low number of page views for the individual articles. Maybe it had something to do with timing. As a rule, DYKs with interesting images seem to be the most attractive ones. Glad to see your Jason and Frederik V nominations are in this category. Let's see how they go. I am slowly plowing through the Design section of the canon and have been working on two interesting ladies: Marie Gudme Leth and Gertrud Vasegaard. Thanks once again for all your interest and support. --Ipigott (talk) 07:46, 26 January 2013 (UTC)
I've also started Astrid Noack (surprisingly missing from the Danish wiki) and Randers Museum of Art. If you feel up to the challenge, the museum article contains a number of red links on modern artists, most of whom deserve at least a short article (even if not all are covered in the Danish WP). As William Scharff is also red linked in the Grønningen article, I might start with him. You might like to cherry-pick some of the others. Have fun. --Ipigott (talk) 15:20, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

Monasteries in Tibet

Reference that you have given also gives details of both Toling and Tsaparng monasteries and also Zandu. The names of the temples in both monasteries are identical. The photo used in the info box is of Toling Only as the raock cliff where Tsaparang temples are locoated are seen in the background. THe photos have been uploaded by some French photographer and he has used the names Toling also. Whiet and Red Temples are or chapels are found in both monasteries. Gompa is also the name for Monastery. I do not see any problem with the photos. Yes, Zandu can be merged with Toling village article. I will search in flickr for more photos.--Nvvchar. 04:30, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

  • My inputs for the above articles are complete. I wish to clarify that the word 'Temple' is also used to denote 'monastery' or 'gompa' in Tibet. While I have completed this article Paranapiacaba for your inputs I have also added quite a bit of text to Rio Grande da Serra also. Pl see and add. I will do Tholing or Zonda tomorrow.--Nvvchar. 13:28, 26 January 2013 (UTC)

I have added to Yeshe-Ö, Zanda, Toling Monastery and fixed references to all tags in Purang-Guge kingdom. You may have to add some more text under History section of Yeshe-Ö to complete his history till his death. I will add some text to the article Dr. B has suggested tomorrow and then nominate. I am very tired now. Old age has become more of pain management and creview comments under DYK adds to this pain.--Nvvchar. 17:52, 27 January 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination for Ved Vejen

Hi Rosiestep. I saw your comments on Ved Vejen and I actually attempted to address them in the nominations but although I turned up the reviewer's text (by scanning for Ved Vejen in the DYK nominations), I could not see how to get in to comment on it. I think I have told you before that the reason I do not nominate articles myself is that I find the mechanics far too difficult to handle. No wonder so few newcomers dare to venture into DYK. Anyway, I can try to answer the concerns. There is indeed a Google reference to a Danish book on the subject but this is not one of mine. Perhaps Dr. B's? To tell you the truth, I cannot really see its relevance to the article and I cannot immediately see whether it was the author of the book or someone else who commented on Ved Vejen. Probably best just to remove it. In regard to the awkward wording, as far as I can see the prose is generally OK. I guess the awkward passages are the ones in which direct quotes are given from the original sources. I suppose these could be c/e'd into reported speech or whatever but as they are not mine I don't really feel like editing them. As for the text beginning "It is not just Bang's portrayal...", this is indeed an accurate translation of a comment made by the full canon committee on literature. Word for word this translates as "But it is not just a matter of a sympathetic portrayal of a bygone provincial world that appears so typically Danish. It is Bang's art to made the little egoism and the hidden loneliness's unheroical pain recognizable for contemporary readers." I think my summary conveys the intent of the message although I agree that there might be an ambiguity as to what is typically Danish: the portrayal, the bygone provincial world or (probably) a combination of both. I am afraid I cannot answer the question as to when the story was set in relation to the time it was written. I would only say that as it was written in 1886 and has a station master in Jutland as one of the main characters, it must have addressed a more or less contemporary environment. Would you be kind enough to pass these comments on to the reviewer (Wasted Time R), thanking him or her for such careful attention to detail. It's great to have people around who do not blindly accept the sources but actually look into each one. We could do with more of them. --Ipigott (talk) 18:40, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

I now see that the reference to awkward language was in connection with the hook. How about "that bygone pains of a woman's loneliness in Denmark's provinces ring true to those reading the novel today?" --Ipigott (talk) 19:24, 2 February 2013 (UTC)

You might like to look at Harald Slott-Møller. It was created by Ujkiol, a Danish editor who has started to participate in the English Wikipedia. He is also helping with the canon. --Ipigott (talk) 10:37, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Sorry about that. I seem to be going around in circles more and more these days! I only did basic c/e on the article but I can now go back and expand it properly. While I'm here, in relation to the canon, I have done quite a bit on Gedser wind turbine and Johannes Juul.
As for Ujkiol, he has been increasingly productive. His most recent additions are: Hans_Christian_Rylander (worth expanding), Holberg_Medal, Gittes_monologer, Per_Højholt (could be expanded), Vestfyns_Kunstmuseum and a few of Eckersberg's paintings: The_Marble_Steps_Leading_to_the_Church_of_Santa_Maria_in_Aracoeli_in_Rome, Bella_and_Hanna._The_Eldest_Daughters_of_M._L._Nathanson, At_a_Window_in_the_Artist's_Studio, The_Russian_Ship_of_the_Line_"Asow"_and_a_Frigate_at_Anchor_in_the_Roads_of_Elsinore, A_View_through_Three_of_the_North-Western_Arches_of_the_Third_Storey_of_the_Coliseum. Maybe you would like to look at them too. I'll also take a better look again tomorrow. He's doing a great job even if some of his contributions are rather short. But it's certainly better to have short explanations than nothing at all. On the paintings, I am still having difficulty in getting the titles to appear in italics, even with the "Italics title" template. Perhaps you can help out here and also provide me with explanations for the future. Remind me of any priorities for follow up. --Ipigott (talk) 22:55, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

DYK nomination of Gedser wind turbine

Hello! Your submission of Gedser wind turbine at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Soman (talk) 09:55, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for nominating this one. Can't see what the eligibility problem might be unless it is already considered to be too old. I don't like the new hook they're suggesting. How about simply "...that its innovative Danish design was a major breakthrough in the development of wind turbines."? Thanks also for looking at Ujkiol's work. I've also been continuing the Canon coverage with a few works of art, all very interesting to write: The Great Relief, Sommerdag ved Roskilde Fjord, Støvkornenes dans i solstrålerne and Efterårsmorgen ved Sortedamssøen. You might just like to have a look at them but don't feel under any obligation for DYK. I've also been trying to upgrade Acropolis of Athens but it's an uphill job! --Ipigott (talk) 19:04, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
Also see you are working on Adalid. I think you've got the etymology wrong. The Arabic dalíl (مرشد) means guide. I don't think it has anything to do with delid meaning "counter". You can check it out. --Ipigott (talk) 22:53, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Materialscientist (talk) 08:21, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Rosiestep, I would really like to thank you sincerely for all the wonderful work you have been doing in support of Danish culture. Managing to place two articles with pictures on DYK two days in a row is a great achievement. You have certainly contributed much towards putting Denmark on the Wikipedia map. While I'm here, could I persuade you to take a second look at Ved Vejen. It has been suggested I should try to bring it up to GA level. I am not too sure how much further to go, if at all. I do not really feel like going into an "explication de texte" (especially as it would mean translating the relevant Danish passages) and I am also reluctant to comment too much further on the plot. Any ideas? --Ipigott (talk) 10:49, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

You misunderstood me on Ved Vejen. I have been trying to improve the article but I've now reached a point where it would usually be necessary to comment on the text itself. As most English-speaking readers will not have access to the translation, I would have to translate chuncks before comment (EN translation still copyright). Anyway, Dr. B is aware of the situation, so I'll just see how it goes.
Have you seen the comment in Talk:Frederik V on Horseback. I have tried to turn up the text but cannot find it. Perhaps you can sort it out.--Ipigott (talk) 13:39, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Interesting. We have quite a collection of the Christmas Plates and several other items including the rather nice boy and girl figurines. Practically every home in Denmark used to have a display of Christmas plates spanning several decades but for some reason they seem to be going out of fashion. You can pick most of them up for a song in antique shops. Perhaps we should be spending more time on Danish porcelain and the artists behind them? The Christmas plates have quite a history, the first one dating from 1895.--Ipigott (talk) 09:59, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

I think we should call the article Danish Christmas plates. There could always be redirects from other names, including Juleplatter. The Danish artist Bjørn Wiinblad also produced a beautiful series which you can see here although as they primarily targeted Rosenthal's German market they were all market Weihnachten. We have those from 1971 to 1978. They obviously qualify as "Danish" although Rosenthal has also produced more German designs (which could be mentioned in an English version of de:Rosenthal (Unternehmen). I'm not too sure to what extent copyright runs to plates. It would be good to have some illustrations. And now I have to get back to more post-editing for Dr B. He and NVV have been keeping me really busy for the past few days, leaving me no time to get on with my own contributions. Perhaps I should just start saying no. They seem to have been able to survive without me in the past, before I was encouraged to join the translation project.--Ipigott (talk) 09:37, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Church of Our Lady of the Palm

Hello Rosiestep. Thank's for your diligence in nominating this one for DYK. Unfortunately I think you misinterpreted the following sentence in the article: "That year, Pope Clement VI created the Diocese of Algeciras which was linked to that of Cadiz after he had converted its Grand Mosque in accordance with Christian rites into a Catholic Church." Maybe it is not too clear and I'll try to make it clearer but the mosque which was converted into a Christian church was the one in Cadiz, not the one in Algeciras. As the new hook, may I suggest: "...that the Church of Our Lady of the Palm on Algeciras' Plaza Alta (church and plaza pictured) owes its name to a Spanish victory on Palm Sunday 1344?"

I thought I would also sound you out on your interest in helping with my proposal for this year's Women's History Month (i.e. March). While the U.S. theme this year is "Women Inspiring Innovation Through Imagination: Celebrating Women in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics", I thought it would be a little less ambitious to concentrate on "Women in photography". (You may have seen my message on SarahStierch's page.) Like last year with architecture, I think there will be a need to expland old biographies, add new ones and write an article on the topic. Now that I have covered the main participants in De Tretten, I thought I could afford to move away from Denmark for a week or two and devote my time to the outstanding contributions women have made to photography. If you are interested, I'll keep you informed of what I am doing.--Ipigott (talk) 10:20, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

Great to have you on board Rosiestrep. I hope to finish the new version of List of women photographers tomorrow on the basis of this. Visitors on Saturday night is not an ideal starting point!--Ipigott (talk) 20:44, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

I understand the problem. In context, it looks OK but of course Denmark's painters were hardly the greatest of the times. I have adjusted the referenced sentence in the article so now I think we can say: "...that the first exhibition of Den Frie Udstilling (pictured) in 1891 featured P.S. Krøyer and Kristian Zahrtmann who were among Denmark's most notable painters at the time?" If it's too long, you could suggest "...that the first exhibition of Den Frie Udstilling (pictured) in 1891 featured several notable painters including P.S. Krøyer and Kristian Zahrtmann?" Good to hear you're going to help with women photographers. I'm working on expansion of the list in a sandbox -- just so you don't duplicate!--Ipigott (talk) 09:22, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Women photographers

As you say, the list of women photographers is far too short. The current emphasis on American photographers needs to be offset by much better coverage of the rest of the world. When I was doing architecture last year, I found lots of names in the biographies and lists for the various countries, both in the English wiki and in those in the other languages. There will also be articles and books which can be Googled. Hoary has already made lots of suggestions for Japan (I'll add them tomorrow) and I know of many more for France, Germany, Austria and Denmark. There might even be some for Gibraltar, Algeciras and Ceuta! Joking apart, I think the best way to go about it is to add names to the list, even if they art red links, but if possible with a reference and a few words to describe their notability. On that basis, we can start on the biographies -- unless you want to do the biographies first and then add the names to the list. Glad you find it interesting. Let's see what we can do over the next month or so.--Ipigott (talk) 22:11, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi!, Rosie. Yes, I am back to work. I thought of replying to your message after completing my inputs to all the 16 articles. I will finish Shore Temple today. All others are completed from my end except for some imgs which I will add today. In the cave articles, changing the subsection title of caves has to be piped as the names denote individual names for which there are separate articles on wiki. Ganesha Ratha is also part of the Group of Monuments, as UNESCO has mentioned it in their inscribed list. If you want I can create one more article titled Rathas of Mahabalipuram, similar to the Caves. I have also completed Descent of the Ganges article. I have also added one more article to the list of structural temples, in addition to Shore Temple, which is in User:Rosiestep/sandbox/Olakkanneshvara Temple. We have to find a way to link it with the hook. In the hook text there is no need to mention Seven Pagodas of Mahabalipuram and Thirukadalmallai. In a few articles User:Bonkers The Clown has also contributed and he needs to be mentioned only for those articles in the DYK attribution. He has to be asked to reverse his additions made in the main article (transferring from your user page) also so that the user page article could be transferred again. As a safety, I will add some more text to Dharmaraja Ratha. I will leave a message in the evening after I complete Shore Temple. Thanks and regards--Nvvchar. 06:00, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Comments

We need a Navbox for "Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram".

What about Seven Pagodas of Mahabalipuram?

It is already a big article. Can't be expanded to 5x

What about Thirukadalmallai?

There is not much more we can add to it.

Please see Shore Temple article for the clarification needed on the king who built it during the early 8th century. He was the grandson of Mamalla.--Nvvchar. 05:01, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

The monuments may be subdivided into five categories:

  • ratha temples in the form of processional chariots, monolithic constructions cut into the residual blocks of diorite which emerge from the sand. The five ratha of the south, which are the most famous, date to the reign of Naharasimhavarman Mamalla (630-68), the great Pallavas king (the Cholas texts, moreover, call the city Mamallapuram).
  • mandapa, or rock sanctuaries modelled as rooms covered with bas-reliefs (the mandapa of Varaha, representing the acts of this avatar of Vishnu; the mandapa of the Five Pandavas and, especially, the mandapa of Krishna and the mandapa of Mahishasuramardini).
  • rock reliefs in the open air illustrate a popular episode in the iconography of Siva, that of the Descent of the Ganges. The wise King Baghirata having begged him to do so, Siva ordered the Ganges to descend to Earth and to nourish the world. The sculptors used the natural fissure dividing the cliff to suggest this cosmic event to which a swarming crowd of gods, goddesses, mythical beings (Kinnara, Gandherya, Apsara, Gana, Naga and Nagini), wild and domestic animals bear witness.
  • temples built from cut stone, like the Temple of Rivage (Shore Temple), which was constructed under King Rajasimha Narasimavarmn II (695-722), with its high-stepped pyramidal tower and thousands of sculptures dedicated to the glory of Siva.
  • monolithic rathas, from single- to triple-storeyed, display a variety of architectural forms, while the Dharmaraja, Arjuna and Draupadi rathas are square in plan, the Bhima and Ganesa rathas rectangular, and the Sahadeva ratha apsidal. Structural architecture was introduced on a grand scale by Pallava Rajasimha (700-28), culminating in the erection of the Shore Temple.

Egypt

I have thought of two articles for our A to Z list. Lulua Mosque and the Moqattam Hill. I have added substantial text to the first article but it needs more to make it 5x. The second article deals with the hill and the town in its precincts.--Nvvchar. 10:36, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

Chronology of talk pages

Hola. I found you browsing the Teahouse helpers list. I'm, by way of academic training, an anthropologist (ABD - ah yes, the infamy of that!) and a veterinary nurse - that was a mid-life career change, which I have never regretted. Prior to that, I've reinvented myself in the job market times too numerous to mention. Now retired from vet nursing and teaching same because of disability, I'm attempting to make a contribution to Wikipedia, because it helps make my brain work, and because I think it's a worthwhile enterprise. That said, I'm still pretty confused about all the conventions. One thing I have particular difficulty with is the chronology of talk pages. In all my previous employment incarnations, which have included among others the US Dept of State, everything appeared in reverse chron order, i.e. most recent first, which is, of course the opposite of the way info appears here. I sometimes need to page down a huge list of posts before I can get to the most recent ones. Why is this?Final4one (talk) 04:05, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Sure go ahead, feel free to expand it as much as you can, 80s -present needs a lot of work, you might find more sources, some potential material might derive from his discography and googling it. Not sure if we can expand enough for DYK but I definitely intend trying to promote it to GA. I told Gerda to go hear him at a festival in Germany and she said the music was fabulous! Not sure if I linked you this already but it's worth listening to!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:10, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the translation and starting Ramon.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:25, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Can you see if you can find something on his producing, I wasn't aware of it but these sources seem to indicate he is a producer and a Grammy nominted one at that de Lucía&f=false [8]Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:26, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Hokay I'll let you edit it now to avoid edit conflicts! Yeah he is, I've listened to hundreds of guitarists and he's in a class of his own, best player by a country mile of any genre in my opinion. And he more than any other guitarist makes me feel passionate and want to go to Spain and play with the flamenco guitarists! I've reached page 10 of google books, you might find scraps gradually from page 11 onwards, Billboard so far has been the most productive for this.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:38, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Yey, by accident you've revealed the identity of the female flamenco singer who usually tours with Paco during the summer months. I've wanted to know her name for ages as I wanted to see if we had an article. La Tana is missing [9]. Chubby, but a cute, round, pleasant face, its not the Argentine tango singer Susan, she's from Seville and born c.1970 I'd say.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 20:55, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

Awesome work, you'd eat a red link in a burger if you could!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:38, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

LOL, I think I actually ate one in a curry I had last night, but it might have been a chilli pepper!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 21:46, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Zelma Long

The DYK project (nominate) 16:03, 24 March 2013 (UTC)

See my query - I'm not sure you understand the WP:DYK Rules. Johnbod (talk) 15:17, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Yes. let me think of a l plausible reason to give. We did 17 articles of Laos also on sandbox and four were not eligible because of length only. Now length wise they all qualify Prose in the group artcile was about 1250 which is now expanded to 14100ch of prose. If some c/e is to be done it is fine but this observation was unexpected since we have followed the sandbox procedure to create and expand articles now for a long time. However, some other user has clarified just now. You may like to see these two articles for expansion Cockroach racing and Elephant racing.--Nvvchar. 01:42, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I see you removed the newsletter. Although you did not specifically sign up for it, I included you in the distribution this month because you were credited for relevant article improvements in it. Would you like to continue receiving it in these circumstances or would you like to opt out of it next month?--Gilderien Chat|List of good deeds 02:01, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I'd like to receive it. It was nice to see some of the church articles which I worked on being mentioned. Like the Signpost (and other newsletters), once read, I delete it, putting "reddit" in the edit summary. Thanks Gilderien. --Rosiestep (talk) 02:12, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Is Candle Creek still on the DYK list?--Nvvchar. 04:24, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I have cleaned up text derived from the book reference 2 (Moffit). Please see if it is adequate so that I can reply under the DYK review suitably. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 06:48, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Can you proof Bangui history from French Rosie? "The same year, the rebel troops refused a military base in Bangui and in June a new revolt broke out" especially doesn't make sense. We must expand this, it is currently in the news and an African capital city!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 10:47, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I've reached page 10 of google books, can you look for more beyond that?♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 13:25, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Sorry. Becoming very forgetful. I mean Candle Creek DYK where there is a review observation.--Nvvchar. 14:54, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. After c/e, please leave a note about the PD material used under DYK review as the reviewer may not be aware of it. I have fallen in love with Alaskan scenic glacier beauty (after my last visit to the region) and I will be happy to do many articles.--Nvvchar. 16:02, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

Eldorado River

Is Eldorado River in Alaska the same thing as Eldorado Creek in Alaska? Gilliam (talk) 09:14, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

No worries, but let me know if you find a unagi in one of the Alaskan rivers!!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:30, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

LOL!!! DANGER!!!! I shall eat the unagi inside my easter egg, will stop it slipping out of my hands!!♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 19:56, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

If it's PD print out the page. Scan it, save the file. Upload to commons.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:29, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Bangui needs at least 7 kb to be DYK worthy. Can you find something on the landmarks when you feel like it, just shut your eyes and pretend it's a stub LOL.♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:32, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

A work of an employee of the Department of Fisheries is under Template:PD-USGov is it not? No template for the fisheries department in Category:USGov copyright templates? Try Template:PD-USGov-Interior-FWSDr. ☠ Blofeld

Ask Calliopejen1 to do it then, who is an Alaskan anyway. She'll verify if it is PD and should be able to upload it. ♦ Dr. ☠ Blofeld 18:49, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
