hello, Ashleyyoursmile do you know what contributer wrote on my page my content as humourous is it good to call a peice of content humourous. wha is this. He should have done research over the topic and provided the facts not simply readig and calling humourous.Thaeon (talk) 10:41, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

Thaeon, I didn't find anything inappropriate on your talk page. The reason why your draft was rejected has been properly explained by User @SL93:. Please remember to be civil while interacting and communicating, and do not make personal attack at any editors, like you did here. Always remember to assume good faith. --Ashleyyoursmile! 10:50, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

The word humourous for a great man is still anything not accepted. Please ask hi to review the page wisely — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thaeon (talkcontribs) 10:53, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

  • @Thaeon: The reason that it was tagged as "humorous" is because the editor declining the page believed that it was a hoax. The statement "It appears that your submission is either an attempt to be humorous rather than factual, or is an obvious hoax." is an automatic one that pops up when the hoax option is selected.
As for why they believed it a hoax, they stated that the supplied evidence did not back up the claims. For example, when I read this link it names the challenger as Paramdev Mishra rather than Brahmdev Mishra. Now this source does (when I run it through Google Translate) mention a Brahmdev Mishra in regards to the fight so this may be confusion over a name. I know that sometimes English spellings can differ when it comes to languages that use different language writing styles (ie, letter alphabet vs a symbol language like Japanese), as I've seen this happen with names from countries like Japan, Russia, and India. This is why it's very important to assume good faith - this seems to just be a case of names being written differently.
Since you are interested in India related matters, I recommend checking out WP:INDIA, a WikiProject devoted to India related matters. I'm not sure if this is a prowrestler or not, as wrestling and prowrestling are very different areas of sports, but I would also recommend checking out WP:PW, which covers topics related to prowrestling. Either group could be invaluable when it comes to sourcing - both finding and providing sourcing that Wikipedia would see as usable. (I say this because one of the sources you used is Facebook.) Hope this helps! ReaderofthePack(formerly Tokyogirl79) (。◕‿◕。) 12:00, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Blue & Grey (song)

On 30 January 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Blue & Grey (song), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that BTS's song "Blue & Grey" was originally intended to be included on band member V's solo mixtape? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Blue & Grey (song). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Blue & Grey (song)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Your Message

Hello Ashley

I think you posted your warning to the wrong person, and you meant to post it to ProcrastinatingReader. As they were reverting my work. They have now accepted they were in the wrong and stopped, but it was really rather frustrating and your message adds to the impression of general unfriendliness and gatekeeping of wikipedia's existing user I've experienced. An apology would be appreciated — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.42.39.51 (talk) 14:09, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

User:Kitsims

Hi, I've seen you have changed my edit to remove the word 'openly' from the phrase 'openly gay' in Jonathan Bailey's page, and called the edit 'unneeded'.

Please can you explain why the word 'openly' is needed?

As far as I'm concerned the word is redundant. Bailey is gay. It's a simple fact. If he were gay and not open about it, you wouldn't be able to mention it on his page at all, because it would be hearsay.

'Openly gay' also implies some kind of stigma around being gay. You wouldn't say someone was 'openly disabled' or 'openly mixed race'.

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kitsims (talkcontribs) 14:54, 30 January 2021 (UTC)

Kitsims, since you mentioned "If he were gay and not open about it, you wouldn't be able to mention it on his page at all, because it would be hearsay"- well precisely, this gives it all the more reason to state 'openly gay', and there's no need to change it. UK internal Market advice

Hello, do you have any advice for engaging with John Maynard Friedman and Cambrial I took JMF at his word and suggested a new longer lead as a compromise and Cambrial just instantly came back with nothing constructive, just a bunch of policies I'd breached with the proposal? 80.42.39.51 (talk) 11:54, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

IP, good to see you working hard on the article, unfortunately, I cannot help much since I'm not very familiar with the subject. However, just a general advice, make sure to add reliable and independent sources like newspapers, magazines, to support your content. And I noticed a few edits where you tried to remove content from the lead along with the references. Per WP:LEAD, the lead should summarize the main points of the articles. Be careful not to remove something which is substantially sourced without discussing it with other editors. Good luck and happy editing! :) Ashleyyoursmile! 14:58, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Thanks. I generally put that content in the lead into the body as it felt a bit like a dialogue of competing opinions and that seemed better in the body of the text rather than the intro. I didn't delete anyone's work though. Thanks again80.42.39.51 (talk) 17:03, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Question...

Hi, It's Hockeycatcat! I've got a question that I'm hoping you could answer: Do you know how to add "If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices." to user warnings without having to type it out every time? I think there's a template for it but I can't seem to find it... I hope you can help! Cheers, Hockeycatcat (talk) 09:44, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Hockeycatcat, do you substitute the warning template manually or use Twinkle/Red Warn for that? Ashleyyoursmile! 09:47, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
I do it manually. Should I try Twinkle? I've never used it before... Hockeycatcat (talk) 09:48, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Hockeycatcat, I think that's the reason why the notice on shared address doesn't show up. You could try out WP:TWINKLE, just go to your preferences, select Gadgets and enable Twinkle. You need to bypass your cache after that, and then you're all set. You would be able to warn/welcome and notify users and IPs with custom warnings, or make reports to various noticeboards. Hope that helps. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 09:53, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
Thank you! I'll use Twinkle from now on! This is going to make fighting vandalism much easier! Hockeycatcat (talk) 09:58, 9 February 2021 (UTC)

Paul the octopus

Could you explain how my statement published on the twiki page itself, about Paul the octopus was not Neutral ? You quote a statistician who discusses the outcome based on random chance, whereas I point out that the predictions were all for Germany. My *comment* as to suggest that this might have been intentional on the part of the Paul's German handlers, was only specutation, and so I was careful *not* to mention this in the actual text on the wiki page. So for example, for Paul to get 4 out of 6 predictions correct is *more* likely than getting all 6 correct. But similarly, for Paul to select, at random, Germany for *all* 6 would be 1/64 - the same as the probability to get all predictions correct, as stated by the statistician. But the chance to get 4 out of 6, would be 15/64, so the chance would be 15 times smaller to select Germany 6 times at random, than it would be to predict 4 out of the 6 outcomes.

So on this basis alone, that Paul selected Germany all 6 times, is statistically more interesting than the prediction of the outcome.

The fact that Paul selected *Germany* each time is then of interest, and a statistician would then want to determine additional variables, before determining whether the outcome were random or not, so in this case the question of Paul being in a German institute, selection Germany to win, would need to be explored and eliminated. In fact, for choosing at random, then half his predictions should have been been for Germany, ie 3 prediction, as Germany were playing in each match. Therefore, his selection of Germany for all matches, is at once both statistically more significant, and more interesting that the number of prediction that he got right. This is true statement irrespective of any perceived bias.

As this was all that was published in the page, then perhaps that should be allowed to remain. I do agree however, than my *comment* might be construed as being impartial, although it was not really, it was merely suggesting a suspicion that would need to be explored, before any claim on randomness could be supported, and before any claim to actually predictive accuracy could be considered.

Many thanks, Mark — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jamspandex (talkcontribs) 07:22, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

I removed emotionally-charged, slanted words from the article. To label something that remains in dispute as "false" is misleading and disingenuous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:602:CF00:2260:2839:2DC2:CAE3:D480 (talk) 18:17, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

IP, I see that the content is sourced. If you think the content should be removed I think its better to start a discussion on the talk page of the article, so that other editors who are working on the article can participate and a consensus can be reached. My clarification: User:Auramstate

@User:Ashleyyoursmile, It seems you un-tag the CSD tag of the article Rectified_Spirit_(band) . As a reviewer, you may be correct!. So is this a good article and it eligible for Wikipedia policy? I am new here need to learn something from a senior like you please suggest to me. My clarification: I visit the article creator's talk page and found there are many speedy deletion notices and the article doesn't have any/enough notable citation, also the inter wikilinks article has been selected for CSD A7. I thought all things are creating again and again to promote some brands and self or a group. That's why I tag a vandalism label otherwise I can tag it as normal CSD. For your kind information, there is no news about the article's subject in India. If the article deserves Wikipedia space then, okay for me, I am an Indian and an Indian brand should be published. I am not against of music. especially I dedicated for Indian and Indian projects, So thanks for your review of the article and save me from a mistake. ;). Auramstate (talk) 12:31, 18 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Auramstate, thank you for reaching out to me. I'm neither an expert nor experienced in CSDs, but from what I know if an article has a credible claim of importance that doesn't need to be verifiable with sources, it is not eligible for A7. Here, the article is supported by Rolling Stone India ref which discusses the subject in-depth. Also, you tagged the article under G3, which is incorrect. G3 is for blatant vandalism and should only be used to tag pages which constitutes as such. Since you are new here, I would suggest you to familiarise yourself with WP:CSD before tagging pages. DYK for I've Seen All I Need to See

On 23 February 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article I've Seen All I Need to See, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that American band the Body's album I've Seen All I Need to See opens with a reading of the poem "The Kaleidoscope" by Scottish poet Douglas Dunn? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/I've Seen All I Need to See. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, I've Seen All I Need to See), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Redbridge / LB Redbridge

Redbridge is a small locality within the London Borough of Redbridge. There is a Redbridge tube station

The writer of the former page is confusing the two. This is perhaps not surprising as "Rebdridge" is used as a name for both, often without explanation or clarification.

Many institutions in LB Redbridge take the borough name. The notable example is Redbridge Town Hall, which is in Ilford.

The writer claims that the Redbridge Institute is in Redbridge, but it has 4 locations, none of which are in Redbridge (In fact in Ilford, Gants Hill, Chigwell and Wanstead). They are in LB Redbridge, but not Redbridge.

The writer also says that Redbridge FC is in Redbridge, whereas it is is in Barkingside as your own article confirms. It is in LB Redbridge, but not Redbridge.

The list of notable people is of people born in LB Redbridge, not Redbridge.

There are several London Boroughs named in a similarly confusing way:

Barnet Bexley Brent Bromley Camden City Croydon Ealing Enfield Greenwich Hackney Harrow Havering Hillingdon Hounslow Islington Kingston upon Thames Lambeth Lewisham Merton Redbridge Richmond upon Thames Southwark Sutton Wandsworth Westminster — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.47.135.239 (talk) 18:22, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Source (album)

On 25 February 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Source (album), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that British jazz saxophonist Nubya Garcia's debut album Source, which incorporates reggae, cumbia, calypso, hip-hop, and soul, is an ode to her musical history? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Source (album). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Source (album)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (ie, 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Thank you for quality articles about pop songs international, such as Lights Up, Adore You (Harry Styles song) and Spring Day (song), for Source (album), all written with love for the subjects, for fighting vandalism, for new page patrol with a smile, such as Jakob Grün, - Ashley, you are an awesome Wikipedian!

You are recipient no. 2542 of Precious, a prize of QAI. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:28, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

You are quite welcome, and I hope you don't mind that the award comes from the cabal of the outcast ;) - I noticed you acccepting Grün - which will go to DYK some day - and made a note in my mind that you deserved this, finding a treasure when I looked closer. I like music, different style, but the idea is the same. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:48, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, I'm truly honoured and happy for this recognition. I enjoy being a part of this wonderful community. It's great to learn that both of us have a liking for music. Again, thank you for this. Ashleyyoursmile! 10:00, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Titlecaps

Hi, regarding your titlecaps change in Three Sisters with Maiden Hearts – should the same be done then with Fireworks Over the Sea? If yes, I can do this myself, just let me know. Thanks Robert Kerber (talk) 11:13, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

Robert Kerber, thank you reaching out to me. MOS:TITLECAPS states: "For title case, the words that are not capitalized on Wikipedia (unless they are the first or last word of a title) are: Prepositions containing four letters or fewer (as, in, of, on, to, for, from, into, like, over, with, upon, etc.)", so I think "Over" should be changed to "over" like you pointed out correctly. :) Ashleyyoursmile! 11:17, 25 February 2021 (UTC)
OK, will do so, then. Thanks Robert Kerber (talk) 11:20, 25 February 2021 (UTC)

I have moved the article back to the article space. She's got an IMDB page, and has appeared in numerous major films and tv shows. If you don't feel that there are enough citations, add more. If you want to delete the article, put it up for deletion so there's a consensus. Please do not just remove the article without discussion on your own. Thanks.
