Advice needed

Happy new year. In the last weeks I've been scryeeeiiiingg (a cheesy series from 2001) a lot but ended finding little creation information about the series. After seeing your work in Spike's article I wonder if you knew sources about the series' making they are both from the same studio (and both main characters are even voiced by Steve Blum!). Also, what do you think about Luke fon Fabre's article since the consensus appears to be "not merge"? Does it need more work before nominating to GA? Anyway, I don't plan to nominate it to GA due to holidays starting next week and lack of wifi but I wanted advice. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 19:03, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: S-CRY-ed looks alright, and I can't find anything much more than what's already there. As to LVF, I think it's alright as long as it doesn't run up against another brick wall. --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:42, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. Also, today I was expanding the creation section of Squall's article and then I realized Lightning also has the same weapon as him, the Gunblade. Do the staff behind FF13 explained the use of the Gunblade in another character? It might help Squall's article. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 23:33, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: All that's there is all I could find that wasn't fancrufish. So sorry. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:39, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
No problem.Tintor2 (talk) 23:40, 6 January 2017 (UTC)
By the way, I am planning to nominate D.Gray-man to FA (the other character I got to FA Allen Walker is the protagonist of it) but I first started a peer review here. I know you aren't from the manga and anime project, but I wonder if you have any ideas about it. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 15:55, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

Hey, didn't even notice you got the BIONICLE: Mask of Light article to GA. We don't know each other, but as someone who grew up on BIONICLE, that's awesome. :) Toa Nidhiki05 22:30, 4 February 2017 (UTC)

Blood C

While working in the article Psycho-Pass, I found this "You must have watched very closely to point out that very sort of thing. I do agree that episode 16 was the best episode in the series and an episode that I am very proud of. But one thing that you should be aware of is that everyone involved in “PSYCHO-PASS”, was really pushing things to the very limit. And this is something we did at the limit of our abilities. Right before I started working on “PSYCHO-PASS”, I was working on the movie “Blood-C: The Last Dark”, literally right up to the point where I started working on “PSYCHO-PASS”. So just three months before starting on “PSYCHO-PASS”, I had been working on a the film, so I had to just jump right into the new series that was in full on production and there was not enough ramp up time there. So from there, I kept concentrating on how to make this series that would run for six months a great series. However, there was just one moment where I had run out of stamina, which was during episode 17 and 18. And a bunch of people ran out of stamina after pushing for episode 16. And I knew that might become apparent, so we had clear plans to work extra hard to make things great again from episode 19. However in the end, episode 17 and 18, we ended up having to leave much of it to luck and had to ask everyone to just do whatever they could." The source is this. I hope it helps. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 00:39, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Thanks, but considering I've got eight interviews with staff about the film itself, in addition to numerous other sources concerning the cast, releases, reception and such, a brief mention in one article isn't that much. Also it's slightly wrong: Naoyoshi Shiotani didn't work on the series at all. The only staff the two projects shared were the writers, returning cast, and the composer. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:52, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Blood-C

On 24 February 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Blood-C, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the production team kept the ending of Blood-C a secret from the main cast, allowing them to record only three episodes at a time? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Blood-C. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Blood-C), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Is this the same interview?

While searching information about the new article I created, Millennium Earl, I found this text in a blog:

"I already decided on what the Millennium Earl’s human face would look like before the series started running. That’s why I’m happy that I finally got to show his face. I remember creating him after thinking that having a tired older man as the final boss would be interesting considering grief is one of d.gray-man’s themes. I modelled his face after the editor of the JUMP J-books editorial department. My taste is completely reflected. I have something to say because people often have the wrong idea: while the Earl’s human version has a sweet tooth, he’s not fat…! He’s not !! I want to make that perfectly clear (laughs). I’ll reveal the secret of his outward appearance later down the story. I can’t say much yet, but that plumpness is very important (laughs)."

While the writer didn't cite the source, I found a raw image that seems very [https://forums.animesuki.com/picture.php?albumid=3983&pictureid=58131 sim ilar]. Is it possible it's the same information? It could to expand its creation section. Anyway, good luck with the Blood-C. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 21:55, 20 February 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: There's too many similarities for it to be a coincidence, although it's not been lifted verbatim. I'd say the scan is the source for your blog post. --ProtoDrake (talk) 22:05, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Thanks man. I think I'll be also be able to expand Allen Walker and Yu Kanda's creation sections too if I find more.Tintor2 (talk) 23:01, 20 February 2017 (UTC)
Now I think Allen Walker#Creation and conception section became too long. Do you suggest making subsections like the ones from Lightning (Final Fantasy) and Tidus? Also, good work with the Blood-C articles. I'm pretty sure you could make a good topic with the trio. I was planning make one with D.Gray-man, but I still have to work with the character list and the Earl's article. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 00:04, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Yes, I'd subdivide it, but how you subdivide is your pigeon. Thanks, I'm surprised I got this far. Oh, the Blood-C episodes list is at FLC if your interested. Three supports already. --ProtoDrake (talk) 10:00, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
By the way, D.Gray-man's FAC seems to go well considering it got 4 supports. Could you make a source or image review? In regards to the source, I don't know why but Citation Bot changed one Amazon link. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 01:19, 2 March 2017 (UTC)

The image review was already made so the review only lacks a source review. I managed to replace all amazon links with more primary sources in the meantime and link more the citations. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 14:14, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Thanks. By the way, congrats on making Blood-C's list becoming a FL. Do you plan to make a good topic with the three articles or are you also interested in the other two Blood series (+ and Last Vampire).Tintor2 (talk) 14:40, 8 March 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Since I've got a week's Wikibreak coming up starting Monday, I haven't actually thought about them that much. I'm just pleased they're all done, considering what a state Blood-C was in when I first saw it. --ProtoDrake (talk) 14:59, 8 March 2017 (UTC)

Advice or favor needed

The ga D.Gray-man has been a FAC for some weeks. While it has going in well, the prose review seems to be bad. To make it worse, I cant edit the prose well because muy computer is dead whereas muy tablet tends to rewrite words to Spanish. Millennnium Earl

After the article Millennium Earl was copy-edited, I nominated it to GA. Do you think it can become a GA (there is not much creation because his true identity's is unknown)? Anyway, thanks for aid in D.Gray-man even if the article failed the FAC. Since another fellow user is planning to renominate it, I have been working on another D.Gray-man character named Yu Kanda and its peer review is still active if you can leave some comments. Wipeout 2048

Hi ProtoDrake, if you have the time would you mind leaving a prose review or a source review at the Wipeout 2048 FAC? My previous FAC failed and I need to get this one out of the way as soon as possible so that I can renominate the other one. Don't worry if you can't do it. Thanks! Prose of Yu Kanda

Editing News #1—2017

VisualEditor
Did you know?

Did you know that you can review your changes visually?

Screenshot showing some changes to an article. Most changes are highlighted with text formatting.
When you are finished editing the page, type your edit summary and then choose "Review your changes".

In visual mode, you will see additions, removals, new links, and formatting highlighted. Other changes, such as changing the size of an image, are described in notes on the side.

Toggle button showing visual and wikitext options; visual option is selected.

Click the toggle button to switch between visual and wikitext diffs.

Screenshot showing the same changes, in the two-column wikitext diff display.

The wikitext diff is the same diff tool that is used in the wikitext editors and in the page history.

You can read and help translate the user guide, which has more information about how to use the visual editor.

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor Team has spent most of their time supporting the 2017 wikitext editor mode which is available inside the visual editor as a Beta Feature, and adding the new visual diff tool. Their workboard is available in Phabricator. You can find links to the work finished each week at mw:VisualEditor/Weekly triage meetings. Their current priorities are fixing bugs, supporting the 2017 wikitext editor as a beta feature, and improving the visual diff tool.

Recent changes

A new wikitext editing mode is available as a Beta Feature on desktop devices. The 2017 wikitext editor has the same toolbar as the visual editor and can use the citoid service and other modern tools. Go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures to enable the ⧼Visualeditor-preference-newwikitexteditor-label⧽.

A new visual diff tool is available in VisualEditor's visual mode. You can toggle between wikitext and visual diffs. More features will be added to this later. In the future, this tool may be integrated into other MediaWiki components. [1]

The team have added multi-column support for lists of footnotes. The <references /> block can automatically display long lists of references in columns on wide screens. This makes footnotes easier to read. You can request multi-column support for your wiki. [2]

Other changes:

  • You can now use your web browser's function to switch typing direction in the new wikitext mode. This is particularly helpful for RTL language users like Urdu or Hebrew who have to write JavaScript or CSS. You can use Command+Shift+X or Control+Shift+X to trigger this. [3]
  • The way to switch between the visual editing mode and the wikitext editing mode is now consistent. There is a drop-down menu that shows the two options. This is now the same in desktop and mobile web editing, and inside things that embed editing, such as Flow. [4]
  • The Categories item has been moved to the top of the Page options menu (from clicking on the "hamburger" icon) for quicker access. [5] There is also now a "Templates used on this page" feature there. [6]
  • You can now create <chem> tags (sometimes used as <ce>) for chemical formulas inside the visual editor. [7]
  • Tables can be set as collapsed or un-collapsed. [8]
  • The Special character menu now includes characters for Canadian Aboriginal Syllabics and angle quotation marks (‹› and ⟨⟩) . The team thanks the volunteer developer, Tpt. [9]
  • A bug caused some section edit conflicts to blank the rest of the page. This has been fixed. The team are sorry for the disruption. [10]
  • There is a new keyboard shortcut for citations: Control+Shift+K on a PC, or Command+Shift+K on a Mac. It is based on the keyboard shortcut for making links, which is Control+K on a PC or Command+K on a Mac. [11]

Future changes

  • The VisualEditor team is working with the Community Tech team on a syntax highlighting tool. It will highlight matching pairs of <ref> tags and other types of wikitext syntax. You will be able to turn it on and off. It will first become available in VisualEditor's built-in wikitext mode, maybe late in 2017. [12]
  • The kind of button used to Show preview, Show changes, and finish an edit will change in all WMF-supported wikitext editors. The new buttons will use OOjs UI. The buttons will be larger, brighter, and easier to read. The labels will remain the same. You can test the new button by editing a page and adding &ooui=1 to the end of the URL, like this: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Project:Sandbox?action=edit&ooui=1 The old appearance will no longer be possible, even with local CSS changes. [13]
  • The outdated 2006 wikitext editor will be removed later this year. It is used by approximately 0.03% of active editors. See a list of editing tools on mediawiki.org if you are uncertain which one you use. [14]

Advice needed

Last week I withdrew my FA nomination Yu Kanda due to a strong oppose of a writer claiming I was using Japanese books that talk about his creation. None of the books were translated in English regions so when I asked for a third opinion, the user agreed. Thanks to a user who can write Japanese I managed to get some parts but when I went to ask about how can I cite the quotes in cite book, a fellow user also said if the English translation (made by fans of course) is suitable to be used in a FA article. What do you think about it? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 23:47, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: That's a problem I've never encountered. I've used Japan-exclusive print references in no less than five FAs, and a large portion of my GA work. This is my take on such references; I prefer not to use fan sites or other such sources as the references themselves, but I do include them as links at the end of citations sometimes. I've always found book/magazine and page number to be sufficient (lack of page numbers more acceptable with GAs than FAs). --ProtoDrake (talk) 06:22, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
All the references have page numbers. After withdrawing I decided to experiment and see here. It seems like a lot of undue weight (and I didn't even add a fan translation). Do you think I should make another peer review this time asking FA coordinators like Ian Rose? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 20:17, 10 May 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Yes, I'd agree with redoing peer review and inviting FA coordinators. And yes, I think that's a little bit much (personally I think that editor's strong oppose was uncalled for).
Entirely seperate, but I did use a quote from a foreign language source once. It was when there was a lot of contention about whether Final Fantasy XV was connected to Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy, and I felt the need to include the relevant quote from a Famitsu interview on its status (thank goodness that dispute's been settled and I've got enough interview-based info to confirm its thematic relation). --ProtoDrake (talk) 20:24, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

On other stuff I found a translated interview about the making of FFVII here. This website tends to translate these types of books. Hope it helps.Tintor2 (talk) 00:48, 20 May 2017 (UTC)

Good work on the Sakura Wars article

Honestly, impressive job with all the citations, presentation and layout of the article. I'm surprised that you were able to place that much content on a franchise that has been exclusive to Japan. @1989: Sorry, but I'd rather focus on the projects in my sandbox, and my life and work beyond Wikipedia. Also, I've about had my fill of Naturo/Boruto content. --ProtoDrake (talk) 16:34, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks again for the previous reviews you've done before for me, and good luck with your future projects. -- 1989 17:19, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Another advice needed

I found an interview about two manga authors discussing their works. However, the original url that had that interview is dead and the archiveurls didn't get it. An English user translated completely in his own site. Do you think reviewers will go against using that that English translation? Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 21:24, 18 June 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind, a fellow user found the archives.Tintor2 (talk) 01:31, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
Okay, I actually need your help. A user tagged Tidus and took it to FAR. Could you take a look? Even the tags he made felt ridiculous based on the series' length.Tintor2 (talk) 01:21, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
I tried trimming the plot section to make it like Lightning but I'm not sure if it's okay.Tintor2 (talk) 17:01, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: It looks find to me at this point. Don't let one user worry you so much. As the FAR was swiftly deleted the immediate worry is over, and as the rest of the article seems in a fine condition, I'd say the thing will blow over soon enough. --ProtoDrake (talk) 17:18, 22 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. By the way, two users nominated Naruto to FA. Since you reviewed the original, I wonder if you could take a look. Regards.Tintor2 (talk) 21:23, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

Postmortem proposal

Hi ProtoDrake, I've been looking for a good collaborative project to run a postmortem article for the WP:VG Newsletter and your announcement at the WP:VG talk page caught my eye as an excellent possibility. The Newsletter has run a postmortem only once before (the feature for Vol. 4, No. 3), and the topic of that postmortem was the Final Fantasy franchise so there's a certain resonance here. The FAC process is different now in 2017 than it was in 2011 and that goes double for the process in 2006. FFVII demonstrates that fairly clearly since the most recent FA promotion is actually the article's second promotion after having lost FA status in 2008. I was hoping that another postmortem feature could highlight this fact for readers and kind of talk them through the modern process. I see you had mentioned a number of other collaborators including TarkusAB, GamerPro64, Masem, Tintor2, Jaguar, Sergecross73, Deckiller, and Brayden96, and if you think any of them would be interested in assisting in the write-up (or heading it up or anything else) then please feel free to invite them too. And if nobody has time for it then that's OK too. As far as the time-frame is concerned, I'm afraid I'm upholding a long tradition of scrambling to get things read at or just past the deadline. Technically the newsletter out was due yesterday, but we also have a tradition of using the publication date as only a guideline so publication one or two weeks late wouldn't be anything terribly bad. Would you be interested in taking this on in the next few weeks? No pressure if you don't have the time, but please let me know either way. Thanks. -Thibbs (talk) 18:25, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

@Thibbs: I suppose I could spare the time for a write-up. I've never done something like that before, so if you could tell me what to do and where to go, I'd appreciate it. --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:02, 3 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, ProtoDrake! I've started the feature in the draft Newsletter where it can be written until it's ready to publish. You can find the specific section here. Feel free to change the little intro I write however you feel would make the most sense. The format of the postmortem should be roughly the same as the previous one. It doesn't have to be really long, but you (and any other contributors) can use as much or as little space as needed. Additional contributors should add their names in the signature area at the top of the feature's subsection. I think Deckiller in particular would have some interesting insights about the article considering that he was the principal nom for the previous FA promotion, and of course all others who can help would be most appreciated. Anyway, let me know if you need any additional help/suggestions. -Thibbs (talk) 20:50, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

Subsection

@TarkusAB, GamerPro64, Masem, Tintor2, Jaguar, Sergecross73, Deckiller, and Brayden96: Read the above. Anyone interested in contributing to the postmortem for the newsletter, or what? --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:08, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

Well, I haven't played all Final Fantasies though. Still, if you are interested even James Arnold Taylor made celebrations in his twitter account when Tidus appeared in the main page. Other than that, I mostly focused on making Kingdom Hearts character articles like Roxas and others during years ago. With help, from a user who left Wikipedia I could make it into a GA. I also created the Birth by Sleep trio pages once the game was released in English regions. Feel free to ask me anything since I don't get how to write for the newsletter. Random question

I noticed in your user page that you are a Metal Gear fan. Do you still those games or did your impression changed like with FFXV? Anywhere for the franchise, I only managed to make Raiden GA since there was so much critical response between Sons of Liberty and Guns of the Patriots change (Rising wasn't released when it became GA). I decided to stay away from FAs due since I'm not a native English speaker so if you want to make Raiden, you are free to edit or nominate anything. Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 00:05, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

@Tintor2: Ah, I should have gotten to that a while back; it's removed now. Since MGSV and Konami's disgraceful behavior to creators and IPs alike, I've more or less lost my taste for Metal Gear. I wouldn't say this about most franchises, but it's time for Metal Gear to die. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:24, 14 July 2017 (UTC)

Invisible War GA barnstar

The Original Barnstar
Congratulations (and thanks!) are in order regarding the Deus Ex: Invisible War GA promotion. It's an article I've taken a few stabs at over the years, but I never managed to go all the way with it. It's incredible to see you whip it into shape. Great work! JimmyBlackwing (talk) 22:06, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Xenosaga 3

Nice work on the article. It looks infinitely better than before.

As I was saying at WP:VG days back, I've read a ton about them, but have a hard time recalling if they were RS's or not, so it was nice to see what you had found from RSs. In case you're interested, http://xenogearsxenosagastudyguide.blogspot.com/p/the-history-of-xenogears.html is a fascinating (and extremely long) read. It's not what Wikipedia would consider a reliable source by any means, but I found it to be an interesting "starting point" for research, as it often documents its sources, which some of which are reliable and have been useful here and there for me. Sergecross73 msg me 18:10, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

@Sergecross73: Yeah, I remember that history guide. It's what got me interested. But it includes a lot of supposition, and doesn't have much on Episode III. It's been a good starting point, but now I have everything and more that I need. --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:26, 30 August 2017 (UTC)

Jill Valentine

Hello. You previously supported my FAC for Jill Valentine. While the original nomination did receive seven supports on prose, two unfinished reviews opposed on issues of sourcing and comprehensiveness, and the nomination was closed. Lars Alexandersson

Hi Drake. First of all, thanks for the help with Lars Alexandersson article which became a GA. Taking notes from other fighting games characters, I found some gamplay information about Lars in Famitsu here. By any chance do you understand it and or think it is good to add it to the article? Cheers.Tintor2 (talk) 16:45, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Nevermind that. Keep up the good work.Tintor2 (talk) 01:02, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: Sorry for the late reply. This is a basic run-down of what the Famitsu article says. It says Lars is a character focused on speed, able to both attack effectively and move quickly round the arena. He also has the ability to perform powerful counterattacks while defending against enemy strikes. --ProtoDrake (talk) 08:53, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Hi Drake. I've been working on a video game for a change, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, but I'm not sure if the reception section is well written. I only wrote the one of Zone of the Enders (video game) but I was discouraged by Czar from nominating it to GA after it was copyedited. Of course I requested this article to be copyedited, but I wonder if the development section is enough. The game has a blog site but it's impossible to read it since it is all in Japanese. Regards and nice work with the Xenosaga trilogy.Tintor2 (talk) 21:46, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
@Tintor2: For a game of its genre, I'd say the reception section's alright. --ProtoDrake (talk) 23:06, 24 September 2017 (UTC)
