DYK nomination of Charles Kingston O'Mahony

Hello! Your submission of Charles Kingston O'Mahony at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! SL93 (talk) 07:36, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

I have worked this up some, let me know if you have any thoughts for additional improvement. I have also found a painting of the subject, but I am unsure of its copyright status since it is unclear whether it was ever published in the United States. I am thinking that with the addition of an image to the page, it would be a good candidate for DYK, with the five-fold increase in article text (though my DYK freebies are used up). BD2412 T 01:35, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Good work, I have had him on my list to expand for a year. I will take a look in detail soon. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:04, 5 July 2020 (UTC)

Fokker f.VII a G-EBTS

Hi...I have been asked to investigate one owner of the Fokker f.VII a G-EBTS, an aircraft of great importance to London. It was last owned by Sir Dossabhoy Hormusjee Bhiwandiwalla...whose adddress was 583 chia bazaar, Bombay. See p. 356 here. He appears to be the son of late Khan Bahadur Hormasji Manekji Bhiwandiwalla [1] More... Bhiwandiwalla , Sir Dossabhoy Hormusjee , Kt . J . P . , Merchant and Honorary Magistrate , Bombay , comes of a very respectable Parsee family . He was born on 29th March 1901 . He received his education at New Bharda High School …[2] I am partially confused...but if you can help...or even if interested

  • Are all "sirs" notable?
  • The aircraft was previously named after Princess Xenia Georgievna of Russia
  • All weather Mac who doesn't appear to have a W article [3] flew the aircraft while Leeds who was married to Princess Xenia owned it. Also flown by Bert Hinkler and James Fitzmaurice.
  • The aircraft then went to a C. D. Barnard....involved in joy riding/pleasure flying...became a famous aircraft and made much money. It was renamed the spider at some point.
  • Maybe bought by Sir Dossabhoy Hormusjee Bhiwandiwalla in 1934, the year he was knighted ...what happened after is a mystery. We think the aircraft never had an Indian registration. ?broken up in 1937 [4].Whispyhistory (talk) 17:08, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Knights aren't automatically notable, but few won't be if done right. You can start by doing a biography of the aircraft, or by doing biographies of people associated with it, in which case start with the earliest. Ultimately you can do both as an individual aircraft may have a biography even if an article already exists about its type. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:46, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
The honorific prefix "sir" is used for two groups of people - knights (written e.g. Sir John Smith) and baronets (written e.g. Sir John Smith, Bart). A knighthood is not hereditary, and expires upon the death of the holder, but a baronetcy is hereditary and upon the death of the holder, it passes automatically to the most senior heir. Both titles are granted (or stripped) by the monarch, often on the advice of the government. As to notability - there is no specific mention at WP:NPERSON, so WP:GNG applies. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:53, 7 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks....will consider doing all weather Mac first and then may have go at the aircraft. Why was Dossabhoy Hormusjee Bhiwandiwalla a sir? Whispyhistory (talk) 05:37, 8 July 2020 (UTC)
For the same reason as all the others - he was one of "the great and the good". There are, or have been, at least 315 Indian knights, awarded by the British monarch for service, success in business etc. Philafrenzy (talk) 06:22, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Notice

The article Jasandra Nyker has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (biographies) requirement. WP:BEFORE did not reveal any significant English-language coverage on Gnews, Gbooks or Gscholar. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A tag has been placed on Category:Renewable energy companies of Africa requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Try archiving it using https://archive.org/web/ (enter the page address link in Save Page Now) and add a link to the archived version at the end of the ref. If that doesn't work, print a copy for yourself to a pdf. Philafrenzy (talk) 22:06, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks both...Can you check I did it right? This has opened a whole new window. Whispyhistory (talk) 05:14, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes and no. The ref is correct but the archived page is greyed out, although you can see the text. Internet Archive doesn't capture every page successfully, for instance if it is behind a login or paywall. And more generally see Link rot. Philafrenzy (talk) 05:30, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
Ok...so what do I do now? Whispyhistory (talk) 10:31, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
There is nothing you can do if none of the archiving services work (they don't all capture quite the same info either). Either find a source not behind a login and use that instead or keep your own copy locally. It's enough that you were able to read it but ideally everyone else would be able to read it too. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:41, 22 September 2020 (UTC)
P.S. In Murphy refs 2 and 3 are missing information and the second of the publications has an error. All refs need to show the author, title, publication, date published, date retrieved. Philafrenzy (talk) 04:15, 23 September 2020 (UTC)
OK...will check, thanks Whispyhistory (talk) 04:48, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Roberta L. DeBiasi

Hello Philafrenzy,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Roberta L. DeBiasi for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Indiscriminate list of citations

This is a textbook case of an indiscriminate list. None of these articles are highly cited, none have received any recogniation, the original list even included predatory journals in it. So yes, unless there's a reason, backed by reliable sources, for why those publications are noteworthy, that is an indiscriminate list. Headbomb {t · c · p · b} 19:47, 16 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi...I didn't dyk the HPV article and now feel that maybe I should have. Are you able to create this or it maybe this, and a category for members of vaccine safety net? Later is fine. Whispyhistory (talk) 19:38, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

Well, at least we noticed it before its centenary! Philafrenzy (talk) 21:13, 23 October 2020 (UTC)
Maybe should have waited for centenary. I can't think of a dyk. Whispyhistory (talk) 16:40, 30 October 2020 (UTC)
Nominate it with any hook and I will look later. Philafrenzy (talk) 16:53, 30 October 2020 (UTC)

Alligator Rainwear

Started Alligator Rainwear yesterday. Long enough for DYK, but could rather do with an image. The hook could be something like Mary Quant used Alligator to create her Wet Look. Edwardx (talk) 11:15, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

I see no free images. Will look at a fair use one. ... an Alligator in PVC made Mary Quant wet? Philafrenzy (talk) 23:51, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Many thanks. I like your thought process, but that hook might be considered by some to be a tad too salacious. ... an Alligator in PVC gave Mary Quant a wet look? We can offer up both and others decide. Edwardx (talk) 00:08, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
I have no idea what you mean - pray explain ...an Alligator in PVC made Mary Quant look wet? Philafrenzy (talk) 09:57, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Did your parents never teach you about the birds and the bees? Perhaps the next time we have a proper London meet-up. Edwardx (talk) 11:41, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
I look forward to your lecture. No doubt there will be plenty of audio-visuals. Philafrenzy (talk) 12:43, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Of course. And talking of visuals, thank you kindly for adding one. Edwardx (talk) 01:24, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Thank you kindly. Many excellent things have been imported from India to Britain. Philafrenzy (talk) 21:24, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for recognising that article... means a lot. Whispyhistory (talk) 21:44, 22 November 2020 (UTC)
I re-read the article...you totally transformed the prose and grammar...looks excellent. The book by Wijdicks has a 3 page list of films relating to history medicine. Whispyhistory (talk) 12:28, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
Thank you even more kindly. You should find some useful leads in that book. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:08, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
