Hello WOSO editors! A few initiatives have been started with an emphasis on making more WOSO links blue (similar to the work that WikiProject Women in Red does) and filling in the gaps within various league, team, and player, etc. articles.

If you're interested in collaborating with others to make more links blue, take a look at the initiatives listed in the box below. Sign up at the bottom of an initiative page and help grow the lists, add potential references, resources, and create the articles ... or create your own initiative.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in 1 active women's league)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues
Current season articles needing creation

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Has an article you worked on been nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?
Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

Account you reported

Hi. I was just checking the public report logs and determined you think the person is a blocked user returner. Do you suspect it of sockpuppetry, and if so, what account would be the mastermind of it? Thanks. Xyaena 18:50, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

I think it's generally a good idea to notify users about speedy deletion nominations

Hi PotW. This is a about Special:Contributions/Ethnus. There's no doubt some policy/guideline about this. It aint your or my first rodeo. Your thoughts about this? --Shirt58 (talk) 10:23, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for all your reports to AIV and UAA. But um ... am I misreading the log, or did you just report an account that was blocked in 2006? :) Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 08:44, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

@Newyorkbrad: Sorry my error I misclicked it thought it was not blocked .The Block log does not show the block Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 08:51, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
It's not a problem. The bot removed the report automatically anyway. I only noticed it because I saw the name of a blocking admin who hasn't been around for awhile. Regards, Newyorkbrad (talk) 09:01, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Antidote Studios

Afternoon Pharaoh of the Wizards.

Please explain why you are reverting our user page back to a previous one that linked people elsewhere. I read your concern, and fixed it(and sent you a thank you). If you can suggest a productive way of editing it, please do. The rule you referred to plainly states "If a subject is notable and the content could plausibly be replaced with text written from a neutral point of view, this is preferable to deletion.". I deleted the outside source, you put it back. If your concern is with the content, please explain(perhaps rewrite it?). This is a community, and I have been a contributing part of it on and off my entire life. This is our way of giving back to the community thats been there by our sides through the years. Our videos promote nothing except the Wikipedia page they are sourced from(obligatory on Wiki), and the media contained within those source articles. (This is well within the rules of Wikipedia:Video links). Antidote Studios (talk) 04:53, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

RfA question

Thanks for asking the RfA question about paid editing. Since I was down at the beach I missed the start of the RfA so didn't get to ask the question myself. Actually, I almost never am early enough to ask myself, though I always check that it has been asked (if needed).

Though I'd probably like to ask the question the way you did, technically I think you overstated a bit. The text at WP:Admin reads "Candidates are also required to disclose whether they have ever edited for pay. Questions regarding this are permitted to be asked of every candidate, by any editor in the community, throughout the RFA process." with the 1st sentence being the most relevant here. Notice it says they are "required to disclose" rather than "they must certify that they have never edited for pay." Presumably, there are folks who edited for pay prior to the the ToU change 4 years ago who could be approved in an RfA.

It's a minor point, I know. Smallbones(smalltalk) 19:45, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

  • Smallbones .Thanks for your message but actually feel the candidates should answer this without being asked.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 20:12, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
    • I do too, but since it is buried in the text of WP:Admin, I suspect that some folks will miss it. The best solution would be to make it the 4th standard question. I had proposed this in January at [1] and it resulted in a real shit storm. Perhaps people will be more reasonable now, perhaps we should wait awhile. In any case if you were to propose anything like that, please let me know. Smallbones(smalltalk) 20:44, 30 May 2018 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Paul Pelletier (politician), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. power~enwiki (π, ν) 06:04, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in study

Hello,

I am E. Whittaker, an intern at Wikimedia with the Scoring Team to create a labeled dataset, and potentially a tool, to help editors deal with incivility when they encounter it on talk pages. A full write-up of the study can be found here: m:Research:Civil_Behavior_Interviews. We are currently recruiting editors to be interviewed about their experiences with incivility on talk pages. Would you be interested in being interviewed? I am contacting you because of your involvement in Wikipedia’s Women in Red project. The interviews should take ~1 hour, and will be conducted over BlueJeans (which does allow interviews to be recorded). If, so, please email me at ewhit@umich.edu in order to schedule an interview.

Thank you Ewitch51 (talk) 23:05, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

@Ewitch51: Thank you very much for your invitation.I have extensively worked in for over 11 years since 2006 in WP:UAA with over 6000 reports and WP:AIVwith over 4300 reports in AIV this involved direct vandalism and including incivility but this is dealt with directly with blocks and in most cases with indef blocks for vandalism accounts and the issue is settled there if necessary the differences are Rev Del or rarely Oversight for serious violations . Incivilty in Talk pages is sadly largely done by tenored editors and who can get away with incivility who cannot be directly blocked due to the large contributions to the project and sadly several editors have left the project due to this along with other reasons.

There is a wide range of opinion on how far a lot of article creation by an editor should be allowed to influence decisions on other matters concerning that editor. There are some who come close to thinking that a "good content creator" or even a large contributor should never be excluded, no matter how grossly he/she has abused their position in other respects and this allows a few to get way with outright incivility. At the other end of the spectrum there are those who think that it should make no difference at all: a given offense should be treated exactly the same, no matter who committed it but think they are minority .These users have allowances made because he/she is a substantial content creator or major contributor in other cases with a large number of edits.

I am sorry to say that I will not able to participate in your interview. But wish you all the best in your endeavours.thanks again for for asking. Please let me know if you need any other help in future will definitely help if I can.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 06:24, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Notice

The article Swati Maliwal has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted after seven days unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Jmertel23 (talk) 13:27, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Swati Maliwal, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. —SpacemanSpiff 15:57, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Why I must add 106.202.160.172 (talk) 18:29, 14 October 2018 (UTC) to all my edits to hfpe my IP ?

Hello Why I must add 106.202.160.172 (talk) 18:29, 14 October 2018 (UTC) to all my edits to hide my IP ?Is this the new rule at Wikipedia now?

Something is not right 4 times of ~ ~ ~ ~ makes it show my IP not hide my IP — Preceding unsigned comment added by 106.202.160.172 (talk) 18:30, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

OK I opened an account. Now if I want to show my IP how to do it ? Can I use my IP and also my account name ? Pharaoh sails to Orion (talk) 18:47, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Are you sure that Al-Karim University was actually established? I searched for details so I could add it to List of private universities in India, but I could find none. There are plenty of "will be opened" or "is approved to open", but no actual data I could find about courses or anything else. All I could say is that an Act was passed and the UGC has recognised the university, but from past experience, this does not mean the institute actually exists (or ever will exist). What do you think? --Muhandes (talk) 15:47, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your message .I did a search for the University's website but could not find it.But University Grants Commission in its website states it was established on 15.06.2018 as per this.Hence created it.But would like your opinion on this.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 22:34, 24 October 2018 (UTC)
To the best of my knowledge, the UGC approves a private university as soon as they receive the act, and in some cases it may take many years before the university is opened. The "establishment date" is simply the date of the act, it has nothing to do with the university actually existing. While I do accept the UGC as the ultimate source on this, their practice means that in some cases universities which do not exist (no location, no staff, no students, just pure air) are already listed. In my personal opinion, for a university that does not exist it may be too soon to have an article. For example, I found no evidence that "The Global University, Arunachal Pradesh" exists, although the Bill was passed in 2015(!) so I did not create an article. On the other hand, on January 2018 I thought that there is already enough material to write Sarla Birla University, so I created the article. I made it clear that it is an upcoming university, and indeed a few months later it opened. I am not sure this is the case with Al-Karim University, as I could find no information about where it is going to be, what it is going to teach or any other reliable evidence of its existence. --Muhandes (talk) 12:10, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
Al-Karim Education Trust which will run this university currently run a medical college the Katihar Medical College as per this but currently it is affiliated to B N Mandal University.Anyway I am fine with your opinion.Would you suggest that I delete this can do it.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 13:47, 25 October 2018 (UTC)
I redirected to Katihar Medical College and Hospital. Once we get more information we can restart the article, and the sources you used are safe in the history. --Muhandes (talk) 17:24, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Friederike Irina requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Kaushal, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Bengali (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Opening ceremony of the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup, Parc de Princes, Paris, June 7, 2019

Hello WOSO editors! What a 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup in France! There has been a lot of activity on tournament- and player-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of the tournament and its players. Let's keep the momentum going.

WOMEN IN SPORTS EDIT-A-THON FOR JULY + AUGUST!

WikiProject Women in Red is focusing on Women in Sports during their edit-a-thon for July & August 2019.

Get all the info here: Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Meetup/126

Sign up and help fill in the gaps within various articles related to women's football / soccer - whether they be players, teams, leagues, historical, administrators, referees, etc. Every little bit helps. Be sure to tag your article talk pages with {{WIR-126}}.

These edit-a-thons are a great way to work with others to help bridge the gender gaps on Wikipedia. Thanks for your contributions!

Did you know...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

Current and upcoming seasons for top-division leagues

Have some new articles in mind or see some that need improvement? Add them to the Open Tasks.

Was an article you worked on nominated for deletion? See:

Want some tips, assistance, or resources from other WOSO editors?
Leave a message on the task force talk page.

Thank you for your continued contributions to articles related to women's football / soccer (WOSO)!

DYK for Patricia Mayorga

On 7 August 2019, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Patricia Mayorga, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that after fleeing Chihuahua due to death threats, Patricia Mayorga dedicated her 2017 CPJ International Press Freedom Award to two murdered journalists? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Patricia Mayorga. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Patricia Mayorga), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

AfroCine: Join the Months of African Cinema this October!

Greetings!

After a successful first iteration of the “Months of African Cinema” last year, we are happy to announce that it will be happening again this year, starting from October 1! In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.

The AfroCine Project welcomes you to October, the first out of the two months which have been dedicated to creating and improving content that centre around the cinema of Africa, the Caribbean, and the diaspora. Join us in this global edit-a-thon, by helping to create or expand articles which are connected to this scope. Also remember to list your name under the participants section.

On English Wikipedia, we would be recognizing participants in the following manner:

  • Overall winner (1st, 2nd, 3rd places)
  • Diversity winner
  • Gender-gap fillers

For further information about the contest, the recognition categories and how to participate, please visit the contest page here. For further inquiries, please leave comments on the contest talkpage or on the main project talkpage. See you around :).--Jamie Tubers (talk) 00:50, 30 September 2019 (UTC)

MPs

If you're going to start the articles about newly elected MPs, could you please ensure that you're adding the infoboxes, the {{Current Members of the Canadian House of Commons}} template and all of the appropriate categories right off the bat? There's far too much to do today for it to be helpful to start half-baked stub articles that other people are going to have to come in behind you to clean up afterward, so you should do it right from the start if you want to do it at all. Editing on the page Daraz.

Hello, Mr Sarcastic, it is nice to meet you. This chat is in response to your message earlier asking me to elaborate on the editing of the article "Daraz" after you reverted the changes i had made to the article. I deleted two sentences- "The services which Daraz provides is tremendous and reliable. Everyone prefers Daraz for online shopping in Pakistan[17]". These sentences are grammatically incorrect and also cited without additional sources. These sentences are without proof as there is no indication or any linked data that Daraz is, in fact, the preferred shopping store in Pakistan and that its services are reliable. There isn't any link to show the results of a survey that matches these sentences. I hope i've made my reasoning clear, and would suggest to you that you undo the changes you made and delete these sentences.

Goodbye and have a nice day.

Women's Football / Soccer Update > October 2020

Chelsea striker Bethany England scoring the winning goal in the team's 2-1 win against Arsenal at the 2019–20 FA Women's League Cup, February 29, 2020.

Hello WOSO editors!

What a year to be alive. As usual (but perhaps even moreso since there have been unexpected quarantines), there has been a lot of activity on player, team, league and tournament-related Wikipedia articles with all of the worldwide coverage of women's football / soccer. Great work!

Fall Focus: FA WSL articles

You may have noticed lots of great things going on for the top English league this year: the FA WSL. More (international!) broadcasts, top international player signings, improved media coverage, and increased viewership. Let's keep the momentum brewing, shall we?

Here's a sampling of articles that could use creation, expansion or updating. What will you commit to working on?

Historical Topics
Managers
Teams
Players
Other

See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Football/Women's football task force/Initiatives/FA WSL to collaborate and organize with other editors.

Every little bit helps! Thanks for your contributions!

Did you know...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NFOOTY (which only includes the players in two currently active women's leagues)? Often times there is enough media coverage that meets WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. For more information, see WP:WOSO#Notability and be sure to tag the new article talk page with: {{WP Women's sport|footy=yes}}

American politics discretionary sanctions

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in post-1932 politics of the United States and closely related people. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Note: I see you weren't aware of the sanctions on pages relating to American politics. You don't need to apologize to me, I just wanted to inform you. Sometimes it's hard to tell what sort of sanctions apply to specific pages, so personally I try to obey any edit notices andread the banners on the talk page before doing much editing on a page in a contentious topic area. Sorry if my message was unduly harsh. I hope you're well, good night. Red Rock Canyon (talk) 04:42, 8 January 2021 (UTC)

Please use the DEFAULTSORT template

Hello, I noticed you seem to have recently created a number of stubs for Indian politicians without using the DEFAULTSORT template to establish a sortkey; usually, biographies ought to be sorted by the target individual's last name rather than their first. This means that, for example, Khawaja Inaitullah should be sorted as Inaitullah, Khawaja, which is accomplished by inserting {{DEFAULTSORT:Inaitullah, Khawaja}} into the wikitext (preferably right above the categories). Thanks! AngryHarpytalk 12:39, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Akash Ambani, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Hi I wanted to ask about your redirect of this article. When it was undone I originally restored the redirect myself, but then realised I couldn’t see any connection between the article and the redirect target. The article is about a run of the mill crime and the redirect is to a bio of the former President of Sri Lanka who just happens to have the same name. I couldn’t see any connection between them. What am I missing? Mccapra (talk) 01:34, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

It appears to have been restored by a throw-away sock, who don't even know the meaning of 'persecution'. Now unless you are endorsing his disruption (that you should not), you should stop your rollback abuse there. 223.226.214.50 (talk) 11:12, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Self-immolation of Murugathasan Varnakulasingham

I am of the view that this article doesn't satisfy WP:NEWSEVENT, in that it is not an event that will have any enduring historical significance; it didn't have any widespread (national or international) impact; and unfortunately this kind of news event however tragic or widely reported at the time – is not notable as it has no enduring significance. The news sources quoted are either ethnically biased and coverage is restricted to those within the Tamil community or fairly localised. It should be also noted that Wikipedia is WP:NOTAMEMORIAL and whilst the individual's suicide is tragic it doesn't warrant a permanent commemoration on Wikipedia. Happy to stand corrected otherwise I will be proceeding to an AfD on this one. 01:52, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. There is coverage from the The Guardian ,BBC News ,Harrow Times with full articles dedicated to the subject in 2009.In 2011 the The Independent covers the subject in 2020 Camilla Orjuela Professor in Peace and Development Research at the School of Global Studies, Gothenburg University, Sweden in 2020 in the International Journal of Transitional Justice ,World Politics Review mentions the subject in 2021 and there is continuous coverage about the incident right from 2009 to 2021 without going into the Tamil language media .His death was commemorated even in 2020.Please note I created the article only about the incident and not the subject.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 03:00, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi there, back in 2017 while you were creating the page about Ahmadreza Djalali, you moved it to Ahmad Reza Jalali with the rationale "more common name", but in fact all the reliable sources cited (and the only source you cited in those early stages of article creation) use the form "Ahmadreza Djalali". Would you have any objection to proposing a move to the original name you started creating the article under? --Andreas Philopater (talk) 16:41, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your message.I have no objection but please raise in the talk page of the article if other users do not object you can move it or you can request a move . Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 22:10, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Duplicate film

Porkalathil Oru Poo was released as 18.05.2009 in 2018. Trailers for the films are here: Porkalathi Oru Poo and 18.05.2009. Same director, same production house, same cast. One article needs to go. Neutral Fan (talk) 23:30, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for your message different movies as far I can see Porkalathil Oru Poo is not released as the Censor refused certification whereas 18.05.2009" was released in 2018.The heroines are different Priya as Isaipriya and Dhaanya as Tamilselvi.Anyway you can start a discussion if you want a merge.Times of India states"Dhanya has acted in two movies about LTTE – “Porkalathil Oru Poo” and the upcoming “18-05-2009.” These are 2 different movies.Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 00:43, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
The makers have simply released the film under a different name (post the 2015/6 censor refusal stories). The visuals, cast - and even the Ilaiyaraaja song that plays in the trailers are the same. Please take a look at both trailers. Priya as the real life character of 'Isaipriya' was one of the reasons that the film's censor was initially refused, so they have renamed the character. The same actress plays both with visuals repeated (they likely gave her a new stagename). Neutral Fan (talk) 23:07, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Sorry to disagree. These are two different movies not the same. One of them was denied censor certification and the other one was allowed and not the same story maybe similar even if he used scenes of the other movie here they are not the same movie these are clearly listed as two different movies one banned and other allowed to release . Pharaoh of the Wizards (talk) 02:30, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Sorry, but there's really little evidence of these being two different films. That's like saying we need to create a Kuttrapathirikai 1992 and then a Kuttrapathirikai 2007, or a Vishwaroopam (January 2013) and a Vishwaroopam (February 2013). The scenes, actors and songs in the films are exactly the same. I don't wish to bore you with exact timings of same clips, actors, songs etc - but if you do not agree to this simple request, I will have to bring this to a wider discussion. We will need to redirect Porkalathil Oru Poo to 18.05.2009, and transfer the information across. Neutral Fan (talk) 21:36, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
