Speedy deletion nomination of Shaffer (baseball)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Shaffer (baseball) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Gaijin42 (talk) 21:02, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Removing Speedy at Shaffer (baseball)
Hi Penale52, you recently removed a deletion tag from Shaffer (baseball). Because Wikipedia policy does not allow the creator of the page to remove speedy deletion tags, an automated program has replaced the tag. Although the deletion proposal may be incorrect, removing the tag is not the correct way for you to contest the deletion, even if you are more experienced than the nominator. Instead, please use the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. Remember to be patient, there is no harm in waiting for another experienced user to review the deletion and judge what the right course of action is. As you are involved, and therefore potentially biased, you should refrain from doing this yourself. Thank you, - SDPatrolBot (talk) 21:09, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

baseball players
Baseball players who played in only one game are not notable. They are so not notable you dont even have a first name for them. Gaijin42 (talk) 21:13, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
- That is no true. It has been discussed many times that playing in at least one Major League Baseball game pass WP:BASE/N. This is shown in Part 3 of the baseball notability guidelines which I'm sure you did not read: Have appeared in at least one game in any of the following defunct leagues: All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, American Association, Cuban League, Federal League, Japanese Baseball League, National Association of Professional Base Ball Players, Negro Major Leagues, Players' League, Union Association. Both Shafer and Edwards played in one game for the Brooklyn Eckfords of the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players in 1875. Adam Penale (talk) 21:26, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello, Penale52, and thanks for your contributions to Wikipedia!
I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you worked on, Art Williams (umpire), for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:
- edit the page
- remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}}
- save the page
It helps to explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the Help Desk. Thanks again for contributing! —Bagumba (talk) 23:44, 14 November 2011 (UTC)

Doc Adams image
Hi Penale. I noticed that you added an image of Doc Adams in this edit. While it's a good-quality image, the licensing is a bit shaky, which I know since I investigated File:New_York_Knickerbockers_Baseball_Club,_circa_1847.jpg, the image that it's based off of. The problem is that it was certainly created before 1923, but I haven't been able to find proof that it was published in a book/magazine/newspaper before that date, which is necessary for public domain status. For now, I took the image out since it wouldn't stand up to close scrutiny at the major content review processes. Would you happen to know of an old (pre-1923) publication where the main photo appeared? I'd love to see it be proven PD, and would be the first one to put the new image back in the infobox if that happened. Giants2008 (Talk) 18:21, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- No, I don't know of any old publications that it appears in. I have no problem with you removing the image. I would like to applaud you on the work you've done to this page. I always wondered why Adams never had an article, until you made it. Adam Penale (talk) 19:21, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for your praise and understanding. I asked about the photo at the baseball WikiProject; hopefully someone there can provide the needed information. Giants2008 (Talk) 22:44, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi. I put on note on the Lou Lombardo talk page about renaming that article, since there's another Lou Lombardo who'll have an article shortly. Probably best if you respond there. Speedy deletion nomination of Josiah Henson (wrestler)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Josiah Henson (wrestler) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. WWGB (talk) 14:41, 31 May 2012 (UTC)

The article Kyler Newby has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable. Not worth merging to any other page.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. – Muboshgu (talk) 14:13, 9 August 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Veljko Čubrilović.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Veljko Čubrilović.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Trying to learn here, please
Hi: I am like the proverbial ping pong ball & don’t know what I’m allowed to do. So I will only add SABR to the baseball external links, unless you want me to fix the VPBL (which I’ve become quite good at). I feel I can be quite useful, if I only know my limits (as others have never instructed me not to add the links that you have summarily deleted, even users who have hundreds of thousands more edits than yourself). Anyway, I didn’t mean anything personal by fixing the typo in your (one) description segment; I was just trying to learn from what you published. My experiences are author, editor, proofreader, and baseball aficionado. I have worked for numerous publishers and sports publications and currently do work for bbref (ongoing), SABR (nascent, but been doing drips & drabs for several years), and Wiki (for the time being) — the SABR bit is ramping up & I’m new to Phoenix — it’s like Roy Hobbs: They don’t quite know what use they’ll find for me, just yet. Well, thanks in advance for any guidance.... Have a terrific day!! —Doug Jimmiefoxx (talk) 22:35, 11 February 2019 (UTC)
- Doug, I would refrain from adding any links to sites such as Ultimate Mets Database and Astros Daily, as these are fan-run sites without any credibility. This is similarly why I have been deleting the archived links to Baseball Library, as all the site contained was a few lines of blog text on the subject. See number 11 on WP:ELNO. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Bismarck Churchills
A tag has been placed on Category:Bismarck Churchills requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Are these 2 players the same person? Look at the seamheads for Bill [1] vs. the B-R for Elmer [2]. Do you know which is which? Rgrds. --Bison X (talk) 06:07, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- I now believe they are the same person. I've come across several of these cases where the biographical info on Seamheads and Baseball-Reference is very contradictory. I'm assuming because Seamheads has been constantly updating their Negro league database while Baseball-Reference hasn't really touched theirs since they added it. But this time I think Seamheads may be the one misleading here. The Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Baseball Leagues and this document refer to him as Elmer "Willie" Carter." However, I can't find a source that confirms he played for the Monarchs, like this article and Elmer's Wiki page suggest, but it looks like Elmer's page needs this stints with Little Rock and St. Louis added. I'm not sure why Seamheads doesn't give any indication that Bill Carter went by or was really named Elmer. I can go ahead and redirect Bill's page to Elmer's and update that unless you disagree.Penale52 (talk) 14:27, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
- Well, cnlbr.org has a Elmer "Snake Eyes" Carter on KC in '30 & '31 [3] (on p.7) & BBinWartime does also [4], but I think that is possibly a different person somehow, but maybe not? Rgrds. -Bison X (talk) 17:44, 18 January 2021 (UTC)
Happy First Edit Day!
John Mayasich
Hi Penale52, when you updated John Mayasich, I had added an image to that page six minutes earlier, and I think you may have unintentionally removed it when you made other changes. Or was it intentional? Thanks, JonP125 (talk) 19:42, 24 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm so sorry I literally have no idea how that happened. All I did (or thought I did) was remove this line "John was part of the 75th MSHSL ALL STAR TEAM. 3/9/19" but somehow other stuff was changed. I really am very confused, I didn't even click on any other part of this page, so I'm not sure why anything in the infobox or citations or categories is saying I edited them.
