Administrators' newsletter – August 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2023).
Interface administrator changes
- The tag filter on Special:NewPages and revision history pages can now be inverted. This allows hiding edits made by automated tools. (T334338)
- Special:BlockedExternalDomains is a new tool that allows easier blocking of plain domains (and their subdomains). This is more easily searchable and is faster for the software to use than the existing MediaWiki:Spam-blacklist. It does not support regex (for complex cases), URL path-matching, or the MediaWiki:Spam-whitelist. (T337431)
- The arbitration cases named Scottywong and AlisonW closed 10 July and 16 July respectively.
- The SmallCat dispute arbitration case is in the workshop phase.

Strange
Hello! There are multiple drafts for this person: Draft:Laxmi Narayan Maharana (actor), Draft:Laxmi Narayan Maharana (artist), Draft:Narayan Maharana, Draft:Narayan Maharana (artist), Draft:Dilip Maharana. What began as an autobiography now seems like there are either socks/meat or multiple editors coordinating. I think you may have also noticed something strange about this. Netherzone (talk) 04:00, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Netherzone, what you said is correct. Not sure, what is their intention for doing so. I have filed for SPI at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Satyanarayan1233 however it has been days but admin has responded yet, the entire SPI backlog also seem long. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 04:26, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to file that report - it does seem like there is a backlog at SPI. Netherzone (talk) 15:44, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Netherzone No problem, will continue to monitor the drafts till any admin are free to volunteer to clear the SPI's backlog. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 16:01, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- Equally problematic are the photos being uploaded by the various socks, all depicting the same person but with different variation of his name. File:18 year Prabhakar Maharana.jpg, :File:Maharana with his sculpture.jpg, File:Narayan Maharana.jpg, File:Laxmi Narayan Maharana.jpg, File:Maharana standing photo.jpg. Netherzone (talk) 18:00, 11 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Netherzone Ya, that is also another problem at Commons side. I will compiled and filed for SPI at Commons tomorrow. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 18:06, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

Request to add "(Ive song)" instead of just "(song)"
Hi, can i request something, can you add on the title of these pages "(Ive song)" instead of just "(song)", to avoid confusion, as different artists can literally have the same song name. Thanks.
Just like: Eleven (Ive song)
Add "Ive song" to these:
Love Dive (song) to Love Dive (Ive song)
After Like (song) to After Like (Ive song)
Kitsch (song) to Kitsch (Ive song)
I Want (song) to I Want (Ive song) 120.29.77.95 (talk) 07:23, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
- Not done per WP:DAB. "Eleven" was disambiguated as (Ive song) because (song) was already used by Eleven (song) which is a redirect to 11#Songs in which Eleven (song) cannot be changed. As for the remaining, they isn't any other songs' article hence having (Ive song) disambiguator is unnecessary. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 08:44, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
Regarding changes made in Lee Junho's page that you reverted
None of the parts I edited required citations. They already exist within the page. I just added text to describe the compositions that already exist in his discography page which is referenced. Plus, the introduction didn't talk about him as a soloist so I just changed place of text that already exists in the page HitmanSK47 (talk) 16:26, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
- @HitmanSK47 Nice try btw! I'm not blind and certainly your comments above doesn't tally with your actions. It's your WP:BURDEN to provide reliable sources even if it's WP:TRUE and no "
they [doesn't] already exists within the page
". — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 17:14, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Revert without explanation
@Paper9oll, I noticed you reverted my edits without any single explanation, may I know why? Cjse23 (talk) 02:33, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Cjse23, your edits is not an improvement and is inconsistent. Please look around other articles (i.e. outside of Ive's scope since you majortively edits topics related to Ive) before making such changes moving forward. And fyi, navboxes already handles such. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 02:40, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Paper9oll, "not an improvement"? You reverted my edits on the charts, you also reverted the sales correction, archives, and date mismatch, How are those not improvements? Cjse23 (talk) 02:50, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Cjse23 Constructive portion has been restored, for whatever software-related reasons on Wikipedia servers side, such changes wasn't saved prior. Fyi, your unconstructive changes (i.e. not an improvements) is referring to the See also section. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 03:32, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- The thing is, you could just revert the addition of the Discography in the See Also section if you don't like it and provide a brief summary of the reason. However, what I don't understand is why you have to revert including my previous edits (as of the moment they are restored). I want to provide a perspective, my addition of the Discography in See Also is because on mobile phones, for example, you cannot really see that Navbox, and a huge percentage of the population uses mobile phones to go on wikipedia, the thing you see is the See Also section. Even on desktop pcs, psychologically speaking, See Also outperforms Navbox because the word "See Also" has like a commanding factor, you will look or see for something, while Navbox does not have that commanding factor or descriptiveness. It's important to point out that people who use wikipedia or new users might not really know what those navboxes are, while when you say the keyword "See Also" even if you are new, you would understand it easily. And I'm aware other artists don't put that either, and it's such a waste of opportunity and improvement. Those tiny tweaks matter. As far as I can tell, if people read an article about an album or single, they would be more likely to be interested in seeing the artist's full Discography rather than charts, music shows, etc on See Also. Lastly, what constitutes constructive and improvement can sometimes be very vague or have some gray areas, which can be very tricky. Cjse23 (talk) 06:55, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Cjse23 Fyi, Wikipedia is designed for desktop first. The mobile site (officially refer to mobile view; scroll to footer) is not a full-fledged replacement for desktop, tons of feature's isn't built into the skin itself, which is a known limitation, see WP:SMARTPHONE for more or search through the Phabricator for other unlisted issues. This applies to the mobile apps as well which essentially the mobile site with the OS vanilla wrapper. As far as I'm aware of, we write for desktop first without any concerns on the audience' devices (this has been discussed tons of times at WP:VPT), and with consistency between articles. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 07:38, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Revert change on Ji chang Wook's page
Hi, I did add a source for the cast of this musical, using a website previously quoted by other contributors, why is it not considered as reliable? I thing I can find other sources though... But I need to understand why this one was rejected. 2A01:CB04:1F7:FF00:8522:6A5E:B75E:E73C (talk) 18:45, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
- As stated clearly in the edit summary, Soompi is considered as unreliable source per WP:KO/RS#UR hence any websites that are listed under WP:KO/RS#UR cannot be used hence in turn you failed to provide reliable source. Please provide reliable source preferably from the ones listed as reliable under WP:KO/RS#R instead. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 18:56, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
The Laxmi Narayan Maharana saga and sock creations continue....see Draft:L.N (artist). This is like playing wack-a-mole. Netherzone (talk) 02:02, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- @Netherzone I think this issue needs to be bought to WP:ANI instead since SPI hasn't really been working other than blocking them. However, the draft portion wasn't addressed, tagging for deletion also didn't have any positive outcome since all were rejected. Not sure, if the editors at ANI would have any other ideas to curb such, I couldn't think of any other than tagging CSD of which only the latest draft is applicable since previously the various admins who rejected the older draft said that explicitly. Not sure if Wikipedia has any title or content blacklist that catches certain words or groups of words, I doubt so. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 02:38, 23 August 2023 (UTC)

Recent changes
- As part of the changes for the better diff handling of paragraph splits, improved detection of splits is being rolled out. Over the last two weeks, we deployed this support to group0 and group1 wikis. This week it will be deployed to group2 wikis. [14]
- All Special:Contributions pages now show the user's local edit count and the account's creation date. [15]
- Wikisource users can now use the
prpbengalicurrency
label to denote Bengali currency characters as page numbers inside the<pagelist>
tag. [16] - Two preferences have been relocated. The preference "Enable the visual editor" is now shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis. Previously it was shown on the "Beta features" tab at some wikis. The preference "Use the wikitext mode inside the visual editor, instead of a different wikitext editor" is now also shown on the "Editing" tab at all wikis, instead of the "Beta features" tab. [17][18]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 29 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 30 August. It will be on all wikis from 31 August (calendar).
- New signups for a Wikimedia developer account will start being pushed towards idm.wikimedia.org, rather than going via Wikitech. Further information about the new system is available.
- All right-to-left language wikis, plus Korean, Armenian, Ukrainian, Russian, and Bulgarian Wikipedias, will have a link in the sidebar that provides a short URL of that page, using the Wikimedia URL Shortener. This feature will come to more wikis in future weeks. [19]
Future changes
- The removal of the DoubleWiki extension is being discussed. This extension currently allows Wikisource users to view articles from multiple language versions side by side when the
<=>
symbol next to a specific language edition is selected. Comments on this are welcomed at the phabricator task. - A proposal has been made to merge the second hidden-categories list (which appears below the wikitext editing form) with the main list of categories (which is further down the page). More information is available on Phabricator; feedback is welcome!

"Disruptive editing is a pattern of editing that disrupts progress toward improving an article or building the encyclopedia", does my editcounts? please see talk page 120.29.79.39 (talk) 17:22, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- @120.29.79.39 Yes, your changes is NOT an improvement period and you're abusing the system by introducing inconsistency and abusing the module parameter. You continously pursuing your preferred version is an obvious signs of disruptive editing and you have told clearly to STOP by three editors (including me) so do that with immediate effect. When one editor objected your changes, it's likely that editor's having concerns with your edit(s), when two editors objected your changes then it means there is something wrong with edit(s), when three editors objected your changes then it means it's time to STOP immediately, drop the stick, and move on instead of holding on. I also don't need to see the talk page (I watched the talk page so I already saw that days ago), keeping quiet doesn't meet approval. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 17:33, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- So you are telling me Taylor Swift editors introduced inconsistency and abuse of the module? because thats literally what i did, and how would i stop if you are not providing explanation, both of the editors and you did not provide explanations, like what are the rationales why it's "unnecessary"? would you really think they will put Taylor Swift infobox if its not an improvement? Also none of the editors told me to stop, the other editor stated its "unnecessary" without providing context why its "unnecessary", The other editor told to go on talk page which i did but not respond back 120.29.79.39 (talk) 17:43, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- @120.29.79.39 Taylor Swift's article uses a different Infobox compared to Itzy and Aespa btw. I don't see the need to explain further since you're clearly demonstrated in your reply dated 31 August 2023 at 17:43 UTC that you don't even know what you are doing and the only argument provided is because another article has that when that article doesn't even uses the same Infobox. Regardless, as far as I'm aware of and/or concerned of, you DO NOT have WP:CONSENSUS to change with objections from 3 editors regardless on whether the other 2 reply or not, I replied you here and I clearly stated that I objected your unnecessary Infobox changes to Itzy, Aespa, and any other further K-pop groups' articles. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 17:57, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- How could I even reach consensus if none of them responded and none of them provided explanation? What's even the point if they are different infoboxes, The point is, the infobox has useful information on it, like labels, members, etc, so why not put the works of the artist there, which is a great improvement, It's the same when you put a chronology of singles or albums in the infobox 120.29.79.39 (talk) 18:13, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- @120.29.79.39 Already stated that clearly above twice in English, whether you understand them or not isn't my problem. And obvious, you have for the second time demonstrated in your reply that you don't know what you are even doing here and only copying others articles despite already explained clearly above, hence this means the end of our discussion as I don't see how further replies would get communicated through when you clearly demonstrated that you don't know what you are even doing and know how to say others articles exists hence you're only wasting my time. To end, you have no consensus to change and goodbye! — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 18:29, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

Shin Hye Sun spelling on her Wiki page
Hello, I saw that you reverted my request to edit the spelling of her name on her page, so I wanted to provide more detailed reasoning on my request.
Even though the direct English translation of her Korean name is Shin "Hye" Sun, she herself and her company have been using Shin "Hae" Sun as her official English name. Here is a link to her company website: http://ynkent.com/en/shinhaesun.html More official sites have also started to use her correct spelling name (e.g. Netflix). However, there are still lots of confusions regarding her official English name. This has unfortunately negatively impacted the reach of the broader general audience to her works. This is further amplified by the number of non-korean/english medias/sites that are using the incorrect spelling when promoting her works.
I believe Wikipedia could be the start of correcting this, as even the slightest misinformation could potentially hurt the owner, especially in this digital era.
I tried editing some of the misspelling in her page with some limitations. Ideally, the title/heading used for her name needs to be corrected as well. Hopefully this explains my request. Please let me know if there is anything else I could do for this request. Thanks for your consideration. Withchizu (talk) 09:57, 31 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Withchizu, you DO NOT need to explain it to me. If you want to make your proposed changes then you have to establish WP:CONSENSUS first in which you don't such and/or any to begin with. In addition, naming in the article MUST matches the article title, any such deviation will be reverted. To proceed, you MUST establish WP:CONSENSUS through the article's talk page in which you also wanted the article title to be renamed hence your CONSENSUS must be establish in the form of WP:RMCM (requested move) discussion on Talk:Shin Hye-sun which would normally take 7 days to conclude, the conclusion will be handled by another uninvolved editor whom will move the article to the new name and also update the renamed naming in the article itself, you ARE NOT to move the article at your own BOLDly and/or apply the changes yourself. The instructions on how to the properly start a requested move discussion is located at WP:RMCM, in addition, you must provided secondary reliable sources independent of the subject (i.e. the reliable sources you provided must not be related and/or affiliated with the subject and/or the subject's companies) in your requested move's rationale, mainly just words like your reply above is considered as improper and/or insufficient requested move request. Do also note that a list of unreliable sources listed under WP:KO/RS#UR (your typically so-called English sources like Soompi, Koreaboo, Allkpop, etc falls into that category hence cannot be used any of them here to support your arguments) and also WP:RSPSOURCES (any table's row that is red cannot be used here to support your arguments, similarly any table's row that is yellow has disputed reliability hence its usage must be caution). Lastly, do also take note that you are NOT to canvass for WP:!VOTE per WP:CANVASS any such attempts would be dealt with immediately and may result in your accounts being blocked from editing. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 14:30, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

I have an objection to the three documents you have drafted
I have an objection to the three documents you have drafted
They are not K-pop musicians, so no wonder they don't have articles about K-pop. They are indie musicians, and you have to recognise that they are different. Anyway, I linked reliable sources. (Not blog posts, but news and official posts, etc.)
And in the case of Dabda, I wrote their EBS awards and source of being named the Pentaport Rock Festival Rookie of the Year in a document. If you moved it to the draft just because they didn't win the award, especially the judgment on the documents about them is wrong.
Although they didn't win the Korean Music award, you should know that I wrote such a well-founded source. For example, in the case of Parannoul, he did not win the Korean Music Award, but his documents can be maintained because there are so many reliable materials about him. You shouldn't judge the musicians like that just because you don't know them.
for a Wikipedia article by using multiple sources that meet four criteria. The sources should be (1) reliable (2) secondary (3) independent of the subject (4) talk about the subject in some depth. For some topics, there are alternative criteria. Be written from a neutral point of view Respect copyright, and not plagiarize. Do not copy-paste." You have to look at this. And you have to know that all three documents meet the requirements of this article. 올해의수상자 (talk) 00:58, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- @올해의수상자 Kindly read through WP:GNG, WP:NBLP, and WP:NBAND again as your reply above shows that you either didn't read through it and/or have misinterpreted the guidelines and policies. And also, winning an award has no relation and/or influence in the review hence I'm not sure why and how you came to that conclusion that it's such. You need to proof the subjects meets WP:GNG, WP:NBLP, and WP:NBAND criteria showing significant coverage from secondary reliable sources that is independent of the subject (meaning non-primary sources) and also not of questionable reliability, as of currently none of the drafts dratified satisfy the criteria mentioned. Once you improved the draft to satisfy the criteria mentioned, you can then click the submit button to get the draft review. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 03:47, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- You're being stubborn. This is not a matter of being stubborn. I've clearly posted reliable things with sources, and you need to read the guidelines again. If you're trying to manage a wiki, you should be familiar with the rules about it. 올해의수상자 (talk) 04:06, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- Anyone can make a mistake. There are no perfect people in the world. But it's important to realise it, and to fix it 올해의수상자 (talk) 04:11, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- Okay, I'll tell you. well I felt skeptical that the image of Korean music was just dismissed as "K-pop," So I just edited famous indie artists and share them with many people. I don't know what you think of my intence, but I think at least it's a good intence for me to make documents with that reason.
- And first, I will tell you, I don't listen to their music very often. My music playlist consists mainly of British rock. That's why I'm not trying to promote them or anything. Just because I'm in the music scene, I know who famous people are in the current Korean indie music scene, and I just edited documents about them.
- Do you understand why did I say that? It's not about my subjectivity, it's about making documents about prominent musicians from a neutral point of view. And I've proved with some sources that they have a reputation.
- Their names are not "Korean". They're indie artists. I edited them as indie artists through prominent sources. I'm not trying to get this evaluated by Korean experts like you. In Wikipedia, there are some managers who have more knowlage with indie music, and I think they'll judge this better.
- I've used Wikipedia longer, and I've edited more documents than you. So don't say I'm misunderstanding the guidelines. I know it well.
- I'd like to say sorry if I sound a little angry. But I think I have to say what I have to say, and that's why I'm leaving it like this.
- I think you will be nice, because at least you left a reason to delete this to me as a discussion, and you didn't delete my document fully and you moved the documents to draft, so I think you'll be able to communicate with me at least. But don't forget that I proved themselves to be eminent with valid sources 올해의수상자 (talk) 06:00, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- @올해의수상자 Please be civil and no personal attacks if you wish to continue editing here. I already replied to your concerns above, whether you like or not isn't my problem as I'm reviewing according to the guidelines and policies in which your drafts does not fulfil the mentioned English Wikipedia's guidelines and policies as of currently period. And also whether they are indie or not, K-pop or simply Korean music have no influence in the review just like winning or not winning an award has no influence in the review. Fyi, there are no managers (again misconception) in English Wikipedia, all editors are volunteers volunteering during free time. I also didn't claimed I'm an expert so don't put that into my mouth but I can say I'm well-verse on Korean-related topics with my contributions majority to these areas. Lastly, I'm concerned on this statement quoted "
I've used Wikipedia longer, and I've edited more documents than you
" that you had made, your contributions logs shows that you have a total of 756 edits as of this comment and account was created in 2018 in which neither is "more" nor "longer", maybe check out my profile first, if those even matters which I'm certain isn't important, do you happened to operate a WP:SOCK account otherwise that statement simply doesn't tally and certainly raises red flags. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 07:34, 4 September 2023 (UTC)- Well, first of all, I didn't make a personal attack on you. I am quite embarrassed by your message. And I even said you are nice, and I said thank you for not just unilaterally erasing it and for moving to draft....is it personal attack? I try to respect everyone as much as I can, and my respect doesn't disappear when I talk to you. But I'm a little sad that you interpret it like that
- I don't want to argue with you, I thought you were someone who could understand but well, anyway I just wanted to ask you politely, and peacefully I wanted to solve it. And I've written Wikipedia since around 2010. I just wanted to tell you that because I have personally experienced Wiki's policies for over 10 years. I tried to talk to you as politely as possible. By the way don't worry for it, I submitted it, apart from talking to you. I'm just waiting for the results. But I told you that because I always write documents while following Wikipedia's policies. My documents will probably be reviewed by another manager. 올해의수상자 (talk) 08:04, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- And to be honest, it's true that I'm using a different account a long time ago. But it's because it was blocked because of bots on another language wiki (because of IP), and I made one more so that I could create a new ID (this one) to unblock it and tell them to unblock it. And I'm just using this ID after that. Anyway, you can check it because Wikipedia's inquiry method also says to create a new ID and unblock it. But I don't use my old account anymore, and I don't have a third or fourth account. I hope you don't misunderstand 올해의수상자 (talk) 08:26, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- @올해의수상자 Ok no problem, understood. I just find the "you're being stubborn" rather uncivil and a form of personal attacks but anyway since you have submitted the draft for review just wait patiently for another editor to review it then. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 08:41, 4 September 2023 (UTC)
- Well, alright. I'm sorry if it's because of that. Sometimes I talk a little provocative when I'm too emotional. I agree I was a bit sensitive this time because I've never been deleted from the English wiki a few years. 올해의수상자 (talk) 08:58, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

Document discussion
Hi, first of all I won't talk to you about my documents anymore. But before I go, I'd like to make some suggestions on some of the documents you usually edit.
I've seen a little bit of your editing list, and I've seen you revise Wikipedia:WikiProject Korea/Reliable sources documents frequently. But when I look at this document, there is little information about the website about Korean indie, so I will leave a suggestion in the discussion (I will write it in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea/Reliable sources, not directly modifying), and you can add / or leave a comment the content based on it. I think this part is something I could ask of you.
I'm afraid to modify it myself because you keep an eye on it often. However, this article has a huge impact on many people related to Wikipedia:WikiProject Korea, and I also want to avoid friction with other users (I like to respect and be close to others, and I don't like arguments at all). I am not a member of Wikipedia:WikiProject Korea, but I also sometimes work on documents about Korean indie musicians and bands, so I may have to communicate with the members often, and I would like to ask for this part to avoid further conflict. So I would like to you to see about this. 올해의수상자 (talk) 00:41, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Johnny Suh draft
Can you see if his article qualifies to be accepted into the mainspace Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 19:58, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Btspurplegalaxy Hi, looks like this draft was sent back to draftspace yesterday after another senior AfC editor questioned the notability of the subject in which the AfC acceptor also accepted, that discussion is linked in the revision's history. I also couldn't see how this article at this stage would survive another AfD after Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Johnny Suh as I don't see any changes from then and now as his coverage are mostly passing mentions of NCT-related reportings showing no significant coverage as an individual under WP:BANDMEMBER criteria. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 00:45, 6 September 2023 (UTC)
Kim Go-eun
halo, why you delete kim go eun awards? the lates she got copa nikon awards the other actress allowed why kim go eun not. even the source from original article. i only add 2 award but you deleted 4. even in korean website the awards is valid. 36.91.6.178 (talk) 07:29, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- @36.91.6.178 As stated clearly, the awards ceremony are non-notable with no significant coverage in which verifiability does not guarantee inclusion. The other removed awards are equally the same showing no significant coverage in addition to also supported by unreliable sources. Do also note that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 08:06, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- but why other actress allowed to put the same awards in her wiki but when i did to kge was not notable? i even saw other put
- source from instagram and thats all longlasting. Kamilagone (talk) 09:12, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Kamilagone As stated clearly above period. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 10:02, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- you have to be fair if the other can put on the list so i can put it too. i saw kim taeri and suzy won photogenic too but they r allowed, i do have included the same source from naver. moreover the event exist and published by korean media.
- last i put valid source from kofic site, the other winner listed on their wiki i hope you didnt move it again. Kamilagone (talk) 10:29, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Kamilagone The same applies for the other articles hence such inclusion has been removed with the same reasoning applies. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 12:36, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Need a bit of help on article Deepti Naval
Hello, I need a bit of help on this article's talk page as I am quite confused about the sources that was needed to add more information on her biography. I have reviewed most of the policies regarding on sources, but I'm afraid that I might made a mistake while discussing there. I am much appreciated if there is your input on the matter. 🔥YesI'mOnFire🔥(ContainThisEmber?) 11:18, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi YesI'mOnFire, looking through the revision history, looks like a case of BLP violations. I also read through the discussion on the article's talk page, the sources provided is failed verification and also is not easily accessible as books are often locked behind paywall. I would recommended that you communicate explicitly to Santanibedita that they stop adding back unsourced content and also not to edit the article till there is consensus to do so. If all else fails, I would recommended either going till Level 4 warning (then reporting to WP:AIV) or requesting for extended confirmed protection (semi-protection won't work as Santanibedita is already autoconfirmed) at WP:RPPI. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 11:29, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Paper9oll I have already advised them to take it to the talk page so no worries. And they have a conflict of interest regarding Deepti Naval as they claimed to be her manager.
- I was asking you whether my advice to them was going the right way or not, as only finding names that is backed up by a research paper is making me doubt that I had advised them the right way. 🔥YesI'mOnFire🔥(ContainThisEmber?) 11:33, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- @YesI'mOnFire I didn't know they have COI. If that's the case then personally I would scrutinize more in that they must produce high quality reliable sources that is independent of the subject. The sources must also explicitly supports the content that they are trying to add instead of just mentioning the subject's name, for example, if they are trying to add the subject's directed and starred in x but the sources only stated the subject's starred in x then directed cannot be included unless supported by another sources that explicitly stated such. As for the subject's family, take the subject's sister for example, finding for her in the Sloan Kettering Institute of NYC list of cancer researchers would only states that her sister is a researcher in the institute but wouldn't states her family (and the relation with the subject) and personally is failed verification for me. There is nothing wrong with your direction of advice btw however I think the way that Santanibedita is researching is probably in the wrong direction in that they are probably searching name only without throwing in other variables required to ensure the sentence is not failed verification. Looking back at the diffs, I could also see the wording is not neutral with a quite a lot of puffery added in hence that will also need to be sorted out. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 11:56, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
Please help update profile of Actor Kim Youjung
Hi Paperdoll. I am a fan of Actor Kim Youjung. Please help update her profile - Awards and Nominations category with the following:
1) 17th Interpark Golden Ticket Awards - Best Actress in a Play - Nominee (result - she did not win this one)
source: [27]https://tickets.interpark.com/special/goldenticket/17th?gtGnb=2
2) 2023 Buil Film Awards - Star of the Year, Actress Category - Results pending
source: [28]http://builfilm.busan.com/star-of-the-Year-Award
Thank you so much 158.62.33.38 (talk) 13:45, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- Not done for both. The first "award" is non-notable with no significant coverage from secondary independent reliable sources. The second award is notable however I'm unable to verify the content as "voting has ended", searching through Wayback Machine also returns nothing helpful as the website wasn't archived. If you can provide Naver News article that explicitly mentioned her name and also the category nominated for, then I'll be happy to add 2023 Buil Film Awards to the table. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 14:04, 11 September 2023 (UTC)

Recent changes
- ORES, the revision evaluation service, is now using a new open-source infrastructure on all wikis except for English Wikipedia and Wikidata. These two will follow this week. If you notice any unusual results from the Recent Changes filters that are related to ORES (for example, "Contribution quality predictions" and "User intent predictions"), please report them. [29]
- When you are logged in on one Wikimedia wiki and visit a different Wikimedia wiki, the system tries to log you in there automatically. This has been unreliable for a long time. You can now visit the login page to make the system try extra hard. If you feel that made logging in better or worse than it used to be, your feedback is appreciated. [30]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 September. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 September. It will be on all wikis from 14 September (calendar).
- The Technical Decision-Making Forum Retrospective team invites anyone involved in the technical field of Wikimedia projects to signup to and join one of their listening sessions on 13 September. Another date will be scheduled later. The goal is to improve the technical decision-making processes.
- As part of the changes for the Better diff handling of paragraph splits wishlist proposal, the inline switch widget in diff pages is being rolled out this week to all wikis. The inline switch will allow viewers to toggle between a unified inline or two-column diff wikitext format. [31]
Future changes
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on 20 September. This is planned at 14:00 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [32]
- The Enterprise API is launching a new feature called "breaking news". Currently in BETA, this attempts to identify likely "newsworthy" topics as they are currently being written about in any Wikipedia. Your help is requested to improve the accuracy of its detection model, especially on smaller language editions, by recommending templates or identifiable editing patterns. About the draft...
Greetings, I asked you before about a draft called "Çayelispor" and you answered my questions in detail. I am grateful for that but I wonder when this draft will be reviewed whether it will become an article or not. GiveMeMyPay (talk) 22:32, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi GiveMeMyPay, the draft is not ready for mainspace yet with only 1 primary source and majority of the content (particularly the History section and also the Coach history section) still unsourced. Please improve the draft to show it's notable by sourcing it using secondary reliable sources that is independent of the subject instead as per the WP:GNG guidelines. Once you did that, you can click the submit button to submit the draft for review (not by me), subjected to the reviewer's approval. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 00:55, 13 September 2023 (UTC)

Question About Test Edit and References
Hello, as per your latest comment about my editing "If you only meant to make test edits, please use your sandbox for that.", does it means that I need to create test edit first before adding only one line and citation in Shooting Stars Wikipedia page? Please help me as I am very new and I am eager to contribute in this Wikipedia community.
Another question, for references, do we only have permission to add links from WP:KO/RS#R only? Can we put a citation link from official trailer in Youtube with the streaming platform logo for that particular series?
Really appreciate your help! Soimyeen (talk) 06:42, 14 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Soimyeen, your changes to Shooting Stars is in violation of MOS:TVINTL as Wikipedia is not a television guide and we do not include an indiscriminate list of networks and/or services that the series has broadcasted and/or streamed on. This is regardless of whether you tested such changes in your personal sandbox. To clarify, your edit(s) IS NOT a test edits, you're reverted for making unconstructive changes as per stated in preceding sentences. YouTube is NOT considered as a reliable source regardless of existance on WP:KO/RS#R and also WP:RSPYT, you are required to provide secondary reliable source(s) that is independent of the subject per MOS:TVINTL, WP:NOTDIRECTORY, and WP:INDISCRIMINATE instead, in which you have failed to do so. Also seem like you are aware of the WP:KO/RS listing even though you're new here, regardless, do scroll down further to see the list of unreliable sources which cannot be included here, any such attempts of inclusion will be reverted promptly. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 08:15, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

- @Hpring Tsin Using WP:ARTICLEWIZARD is recommended for new users, however if you think your mainspace article won't be deleted or sent to draftspace or reverted to redirect after creation then simply search for the article title that you want to create in the search bar. If it's redlink then you can create. If it's bluelink and is a redirect, use your own judgement to decide on whether to overwrite it, if ensure don't proceed, ask for advice at WP:TEAHOUSE. If it's bluelink and is a disambiguation, do not attempt to even overwrite it. If my instructions on how to create article in mainspace is confusing and/or hard to understand, please ask this question at WP:TEAHOUSE instead. Read through WP:YFA before attempting to create article in mainspace, and note also the article title must followed the WP:ARTICLETITLES guidelines. UAA
If you feel that a username should be oversighted, you should directly report that to an oversighter via their email(see WP:OVERSIGHT); you shouldn't post it at UAA. If you send an email about that name, you should ask them to oversight your own posts about the name. 331dot (talk) 10:15, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

- Hi Justanothersgwikieditor, yes as they have edited that article only. Oversight is requested for their username not for their content (even though their content is also problematic) however due to their username being oversighted, this also means that the affected revision which they edited would also be oversighted together. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 07:33, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Help
Hello, Paper9oll. How to delate title and article? Hpring Tsin (talk) 13:24, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Hpring Tsin You can't delete the title but you can request to delete an article provided it met the deletion policy. And also, DO NOT REMOVE AfC comments as the comments are not only for the draft creator/submittor/contributor but also for other AfC reviewers to reference at when they're reviewing it. These AfC comments are there to stay until the draft is accepted and moved to mainspace in which the reviewer who accepted the draft will remove it themselves, it's not your (or any non-AfC reviewers') task to remove it. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 13:52, 22 September 2023 (UTC)

Special:WantedTemplates
Hi, I have been helping with an effort to clear up false-positives in Special:WantedTemplates and found that the server is reporting that Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:\s*efn\ is being transcluded by User:Paper9oll/Formatter.js. Clearly this is a quirk in how the backend software parses javascript pages, but it makes it harder to find the real problem pages. It would be great if you could put
// <nowiki>
at the top of the script and
// </nowiki>
at the bottom of the page. Since these are commented out, it won't break the javascript, but it will prevent the backend software from parsing the {{\s*efn\|group=upper-alpha[\s\S]*?}}
as a template transclusion. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 14:44, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Plastikspork Done, hopefully is correct. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 15:13, 22 September 2023 (UTC)
New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Paper9oll,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Talk page move redirects
Hello,
For some reason, you have it set up to open a new discussion thread automatically so one can't see your entire Talk page. This is very irritating. Please disable this feature. You should also not archive talk page messages after 8 hours like your talk page states. Typically editors leave several weeks worth of messages (or months or years) on their talk page so that older discussions can be easily seen. I'd like to come back here later today or tomorrow (or the next day) to see your response to this message and not have to search for it in talk page archives. It's not helpful to immediately remove messages so quickly.
Also, I was deleting a redirect and was wondering why you allowed a redirect from Y2K (disambiguation) but not from the talk page. Is there a reason why you don't allow a redirect for the talk page along with the article page? Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 15:04, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- I now see that a new discussion thread was opened up because you regularly blank your talk page. Please rethink this practice. Liz Read! Talk! 15:07, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Liz, I'm confused on what you meant by "
[I] have it set up to open a new discussion thread automatically so one can't see the entire page
", how can I replicate/debug this behaviour as I'm not seeing this behaviour nor am I able to replicate it myself by using another browser and purposely not logged in, and also unable to replicate when trying using WP:SAFEMODE. As for Y2K (disambiguation) to Y2K page swap, I simply use the pageswap userscript by Andy M. Wang, enter the "Y2K" to swap to, enter the reason, and click Ok and the scripts does all of the moving/swapping stuff. After getting done prompt, after which I visited Y2K (disambiguation) to manually point back to Y2K from Year 2000 problem as the before swap Y2K was initially redirect to Year 2000 problem. Did I missed out anything from the process? Also what you meant by "I now see that a new discussion thread was opened up because you regularly blank your talk page
", is there a discussion about me that I'm not notifying about? And for clarification, the blanking/archiving is done by bot not by me, even though I set it as 8 hours as I don't like clutter, the actual archiving is more than 8 hours at estimation of 12 to 21 hours as the bot only runs per day for user talk page as supposed to on Wikipedia space where it would really archived 8 hours exactly. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 15:20, 23 September 2023 (UTC)- Talk:Y2K (disambiguation) is the page that needs a manual redirect (plus now Talk:Y2k (disambiguation), which Liz deleted since it pointed there). Each pageswap script has a post-move cleanup instruction that includes checking the automated contributions for any redlinks to consider whether they need a redirect ("Please create new red-linked talk pages/subpages if there are incoming links"). Also, there is a more recently updated script, User:Ahecht/Scripts/pageswap, which apparently has added features that help with this (per the version 1.2 note).
- While I'm here, I'd also recommend using User:Nardog/MoveHistory to check for move history when helping at RM/TR in order to filter out requests that are not uncontroversial. Also check the talk page for RMs. (I also sometimes fail to notice them.) I reverted Alex Jones (Welsh presenter) recently.
- I think all of the rest of Liz's comment is just about how everything was archived so it seemed like a new page. Her reply was when she realized it was from very fast archiving. The 8 hours (or 12-21) and 0 minimum threads does seem to me unusually brief. The revised 36 hours setting is still pretty short, but that is up to you. SilverLocust 💬 18:21, 23 September 2023 (UTC)
- @SilverLocust Okay, now I see the what I missed out, apparently Talk:Y2K doesn't exists when swapping causing Talk:Y2K (disambiguation) to be moved without leaving redirect.
I can recreate Talk:Y2K (disambiguation) as redirect to the former if requiredI have recreate and redirect to Talk:Y2K as required, I don't think Liz deleted it since it's moved without leaving redirect, the logs doesn't shows it either unless it's hidden from non-admin. I will update to use the newer script, and also install the MoveHistory script, thanks for the tips/recommendation and also the insight. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 18:30, 23 September 2023 (UTC)- The redirect that was deleted has different capitalization, Talk:Y2k (disambiguation). It was from a previous move. I'll submit an undeletion request for it. Thanks and no worry. SilverLocust 💬 19:02, 23 September 2023 (UTC)

Extraordinary Attorney Woo
Hi,
I hope you are well!
I was reading the Extraordinary Attorney Woo page that you have previously edited and I thought that there was opportunity to expand on the section detailing the page's popularity. It might be useful for readers to benchmark the shows's popularity against other titles in the same genre, while adding a new resource. We can see that the show is in the top 10 highest rated K-dramas here: https://readysteadycut.com/2023/02/10/top-40-best-highest-rated-korean-dramas/
I hope you find this useful and see it valuable to add!
Many thanks 2.98.32.49 (talk) 14:52, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- @2.98.32.49 Source provided is questionable and no differences from unreliable sources such as Allkpop, Koreaboo, Soompi, and among others listed on WP:KO/RS#UR. Please provide secondary reliable sources instead, preferably independent news sources listed on WP:KO/RS#R or WP:RSP (green-colored rows only). If the stats is noteworthy to be included, I assumed it would have been reported by reliable news sources given the popularity of the TV series hence I assumed there isn't any available to begin with hence no other editors added it. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 15:00, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Nationality of Krystal Jung
I saw you reverted my edit at Krystal Jung. "Korean-Americans" is a concept used in the U.S. Census and indicates "Americans of Korean ancestry". It is exclusively applied to an American context regarding race/ethnicity. If we speak about Krystal's nationality (in the sense of what passports she holds or what jurisdiction she belongs to) it should be South Korea/America in the infobox. Ippantekina (talk) 16:32, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Ippantekina Your changes made zero sense and has incorrect understanding/interpretation. Furthermore, why change only the Infobox but not the Short description and lead? Fyi, this was discussed previously on Krystal and her sister talk page, also on other Korean–American K-pop artists' talk page, and maybe (lazy to check) WikiProject Korea. Other X-American (e.g. Taiwanese–American, Chinese–American, etc) or written vice versa were also bought up for discussion in which per obvious (status quo) is to stick to X–American or American–X. Please note to follow proper WP:BRD in which you did bold, was reverted, and now discussing which is ongoing hence where is the consensus for you to revert? — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 16:42, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

- Alright then. Also already re-read Nationality and Korean-Americans when I already done so on multiple occassions previously, maybe the interpretation is different but I'll still keep my stands that having dash between nationalities is correct based on the long-term understanding that nationality denotes where an individual holds citizenship with a state. Nationality that is obtained through inheritance from
his/her parents is called a natural phenomenon which applies to the Jung's sisters in which both has American citizenship and also [South] (apparently the State of Kim Jong Un exists) Korean citizenship. Haha gotcha Paper9oll, nationality != citizenship duh ... government websites around the world uses both nationality and citizenship interchangeably oops. But whatever, everyone interprets materials differently, you have your own understanding/interpretation and I have my own. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 17:27, 30 September 2023 (UTC)

Disabling categories on Draft pages
Thanks for this edit at this draft, disabling the categories while it is in Draft: space. However, regarding the edit summary,
- "...The easiest way to do this is by converting them to links, by adding a colon: '[[Category:' → '[[:Category:' "
which seems to have been generated by User:DannyS712/Draft no cat: this isn't even close to the easiest way to do this, and is definitely not the best way. The easiest way, is like this, using template {{Draft categories}}, requiring minimal code changes top and bottom, instead of changing every single category line. In addition, it has the additional advantage that when the Draft is released to mainspace, the categories will automatically activate, without requiring any editor intervention; whereas with the "prefixed colon" method, it requires an editor to go back in to the article, and remove all the colons in a subsequent edit. I recommend not using that script, and using template {{Draft categories}} instead. Cheers, Mathglot (talk) 08:45, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- Noted, thanks for the feedback. I would stop helping out for the time being in that area till I find a faster and less tedious way to perform such task as using the userscript allows me to open multiple drafts that requires category disabling and clicking "DNC" in individual tab and moving to next tab, clearing the task in less than 1–2 minutes (timing is estimated based on 8–10 drafts). — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 10:51, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- Aha, so then it is, in fact, easier/faster to use the script if it's performing that function for you. So, might as well keep using it. Would be nice to get the author (or someone familiar with javascript) to create a new version, which just adds {{Draft categories}} around the categories, leaving the category lines themselves alone. Mathglot (talk) 17:59, 6 October 2023 (UTC)
- Actually I created one myself already however even though it works with some minor bugs. The trigger process is more tedious as compared to DannyS712/DNC script as it requires me to go into edit mode and click the script's link, and clicking publish button as compared to DannyS712/DNC script which basically allows the user to click the script's link without going into edit mode nor require manually clicking publish button. — Paper9oll (🔔 • 📝) 06:23, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
