An alternate theory

[edit]

I undid your deletion of Bird article about "an alternate theory". It referenced, but sounds somewhat suspicious. Could you please explain why you deleted it? Curious:) TestPilot 01:11, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanx for explanation! You have totally convinced me. It is actually a good idea to respond on the talk page of the guy, but sure it is up to you. As to "how" - simply edit yr talk page. Ironically, today I read another story of new huge feathered dinosaur discovered in China. You might find it interesting - http://sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=25D2F86A-E7F2-99DF-3873E5C5CA34D5E8&chanID=sa003 . Regards, TestPilot 01:50, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. When making a major change like that while being bold is good it is also good to discuss the change and check with other users. I agree that the dinosaurs are the ancestors of birds, but enough scientists disagree that we have to at least mention dissent. We don't give it equal weight and we can further modify the paragraph, but please come and join a discussion at Talk:Bird#Alternative theories and Alan Feduccia et al. Cheers. Sabine's Sunbird talk 02:31, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, haven't got yr question first time. Yes, the best way to respond to comments on yr talk page is to leave your comment on the talk page of the guy who wrote to you. The reason behind it - lot of guys have hundreds Wikipedia edits every day - and it would be unfair to expect them to check yours talk page regularly to understand if you replied to their question or not. On the other hand - some ppl do reply on their talk page. In that case they keep conversation clean and neat for 3d party readers - but they risk to be unheard by whoever they try to communicate to. I have never came across any formal policy or manual of style regarding matter - but would not be very surprised if one exist out there. Regards, TestPilot 03:56, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:ZaneGrey TontoBasin.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:ZaneGrey TontoBasin.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 16:44, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

triceratops

[edit]

I love the triceratop dinosaurs.

I am often disappointed that most museums display their skulls with the back to the wall. This makes it impossible to see that the skull to first-vertebra joint was a perfect socket and ball joint. The base of the skull has a perfect hemispherical socket for the first-vertebra to sit in.

I spent decades looking at them before I saw the back of one. All that time I assumed but did not *know* that they would be able to quickly turn their heads. One glance and it is obvious that my assumption was correct.

Nick Beeson (talk) 23:31, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nick!
I like Triceratops too. Do you know of the other horned dinosaurs like Styracosaurus, Protoceratops, and the many other Ceratopsians? Firsfron of Ronchester 03:12, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Wheelset (disambiguation), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Irish Mist (disambiguation)

[edit]

I have proposed the deletion of this disambiguation page. It no longer seemed necessary as most internal links point to the drink article (thanks for creating that, by the way), and that article has a hatnote to the book article. Hello. I notice that the reference on the Michigan Court System page that you created claims to use public domain content from Michigan.gov. The Terms of Use Policy at Michigan.gov says that its work is copyrighted under terms incompatible with GFDL. Work of the U.S. FEDERAL Government is in the public domain. Don't assume public domain on state and local government publications. It is not good practice to copy primary sources anyway. Please clean this up. Proposed deletion of Fortune and Fate

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Fortune and Fate, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

no indication of how this book is notable

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. License tagging for File:FourtuneAndFateCover.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:FourtuneAndFateCover.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 16:05, 26 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can't use wikipedia as a source because wikipedia articles change every day. The information you cite in one article may disappear tomorrow and never come back. Thank you for uploading File:AnimalsRelativeNumbers.png. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. FASTILYsock(TALK) 23:58, 16 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Minor mistake in image

[edit]

Hi there. Thank you for uploading File:AnimalsRelativeNumbers.png. I noticed that Mollusca is mispelled in the legend. Also, your edit of the image appears to have introduced a strange shadded area and small black dot on the pie chart. Is there any chance you could edit the original file to fix this? Cheers, mgiganteus1 (talk) 03:33, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I too noticed the shaded area (part of the large arthropod segment) and assumed that it might represent the non-insect arthropods, illustrating how numerous insects are even within their own phylum, but that was just a guess. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Eugnathostomata, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Teleostomi. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 17:55, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read WP:NOTTRUTH and WP:ATTRIBUTE before you attempt to delete mention of notable attributed viewpoints, no matter their truth. The matter has been discussed on the talk page. Consensus is unanimous that the major proponent of the minority theory should be cited in the article. Beware of violating WP:3RR Be aware that one can be sanctioned for edit warring even without strictly violating the three revert rule. μηδείς (talk) 02:11, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others and avoid editing disruptively.

In particular, the three-revert rule states that:

  1. Making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period is almost always grounds for an immediate block.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you continue to edit war, you may be blocked from editing without further notice.

The article Fractal fraction has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Never heard of it. The example doesn't converge.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Nomination of Fractal fraction for deletion

[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Fractal fraction is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Fractal fraction until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Sławomir Biały (talk) 11:51, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Nick, I think its great that you attempted to explain the hoax, etc. Unfortunately, content like this gets deleted all the time because its more original research than anything else. The "Wau" video is amusing and clearly a hoax and people will look for a place to verify that, and wikipedia won't help them. I would like to publish your article as is or modified on my blog [1] if you are ok with that. See, e.g, [2], a reprint that gets a fair number of hits today. You are welcome to flesh it out without wikipedia's WP:OR concerns too. Cheers.--Milowenthasspoken 17:16, 13 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Body Plan

[edit]

I reverted your edit to Body plan because the concept applies to all organisms, not just animals. Google "body plan plants" or "body plan fungi". -- Donald Albury 11:07, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Donald: I am aware that plants and fungus have "body" plans. But "plant", "plants", "fungus", and "fungi" do not appear in the Body plan article, so the layperson has no way of knowing that this term and article applies to those organisms. I made the change only after carefully reading the article. I found only one instance of one word (fern) not related to animals. I made the change precisely because the article does not speak at all about any organism but animals as having body plans. This article is entirely and only about animal body plans. In addition the Wikipedia article body also speaks only of animals, which means that there is absolutely no way for most readers to learn from these articles that plants and fungus can have a body. Nick Beeson (talk) 14:42, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The second sentence of the article reads, "One of the key issues of developmental biology is the evolution of body plans as different as those of a starfish, a fern, or a mammal, from a common biological heritage, and in particular how radical changes in body plans have occurred over geological time." If you feel that the article should only be about body plans in Animalia, you should edit that sentence, as well. -- Donald Albury 23:52, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Deep plowing, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Sears

[edit]

I am really against Sears being added to Frandor's page. But, if you're going to do it, it has to be by the standards we use on wiki. You sentence construction reads as a strange personal opinion and sloppily. Unless you can come up with some factual way to describe it and its importance to Frandor, I suggest leaving it out. --Criticalthinker (talk) 06:48, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Basecamp (company), and it appears to include material copied directly from https://readtiger.com/wkp/en/37signals.

Hello. I appreciated your efforts to update this information, but pages are not retitled by copying & pasting their contents. We refer to this as a "cut and paste" move, and it is undesirable for a number of reasons, including that it breaks the attribution history of the article, which we need for copyright reasons. I have repaired this one, but in the future please instead move the article. See Help:Move for how this is done. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:35, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. :) There are a couple of ways you can do this - which is correct depends a lot on individual preference. You can respond here, on your talk page, or you can respond on mine. Both are equally valid. In the 'old days', when you responded on your own talk page, I would only know if I checked back, unless you left a template - {{talkback}} - on my talk page to tell me you had answered. These days, you can still use {{talkback}} if you want, but you can also "ping" me by wikilinking my username - like so: [[User:Moonriddengirl]]. This generates a little red number next to my username in the top right of the screen, and when I click on that number I will see exactly where I've been pinged. I'll demonstrate by pinging you at my page, even though I'm responding here.
Help:Introduction to talk pages might be useful reading. :)
As an additional, unasked tip - you mention that you've had trouble finding the page about moving pages. Our search engine defaults to article space when it searches unless you tell it otherwise. There are a couple of ways to do this, described at Help:Searching. Quick and easy, you can just click on the magnifying glass to get to an intermediate level search which currently offers you four options - articles (aka "content pages"), multimedia, everything and advanced. If you get to advanced, you get to a much more customizable page - so you can click, for example, "Wikipedia" and "Help" only to find policies and assistance pages.
You can also take the "stab in the dark" approach - just put into the standard search bar "Help:" before whatever term you're looking for, and you might get lucky. :) --Moonriddengirl (talk) 13:12, 28 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Castro (singer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. reddogsix (talk) 01:39, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

reddogsix please do delete it. I do not know how to delete a page. I made that page because I know nothing about that topic. Read the talk page at the article. I found it at Castro which for many years was a disambiguation page, and was changed to that singer about a year ago. I reverted what I considered vandalism at the Castro page, and moved the contents to the page you want to delete. Nick Beeson (talk) 01:58, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Seeking citation for your addition

[edit]

Hello Nwbeeson:

At 11:33 on the 6th of September 2013 you added to the Atmosphere of the Moon article the text: "The solar wind and outgassing are not primary sources of the Earth's atmosphere, or of any stable atmosphere." I can accept that the solar wind and outgassing are not primary sources of Earth's atmosphere, though I question the relevance to the article, but I would like to see a supporting citation for the solar wind and outgassing not being primary sources of any stable atmosphere. Please add such a citation to the article. Thank you. - Fartherred (talk) 00:25, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Fartherred—Thanks for the polite query. That does not sound like me. I was reorganizing that page, copy editing, when that line appears. I reference every statement of fact I insert, so I am not sure where this came from. Further I am a highly trained scientist, with a deep interest in astronomy, and I have known for decades that one of the major sources of Earth's atmosphere is outgassing. I am deeply puzzled by this sentence. I have removed it. Nick Beeson (talk) 11:39, 25 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Completing GOCE copy-editing requests

[edit]

Hi Nwbeeson, when you finish a copy-edit on the aforementioned Requests page, please don't remove the requests you've completed unless you've archived them (see instructions at the top of the page); instead please makr them with the template {{done}}, so a coordinator can archive them. Thank you for your copy-editing work; it's most appreciated and I hope to see you around the Guild in future. Cheers, Baffle gab1978 (talk) 23:26, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Baffle gab1978;
You are right. Thanks for letting me know.
But I am truly baffled. I very carefully archived both of the first two articles I copy edited. I made new entries in the Archive page (both are there) and I removed the both entries from the request list, (Schjentne did not go through).
I do not understand why Sigrid Schjetne remained on the requests page. I edit a lot and do not remember another time when an edit of mine failed to post. I do remember that yesterday, the power flickered off for such a short time that, though my screen went black, my computer did not reboot. I suspect that is the cause.
Very wierd. Thanks again.
Hi Nick, you're correct, you did properly archive the requests; I'm sorry about that, I misinterpreted something in the edit history. Sometimes edits take a few seconds to reach the servers, and your power failure probably interrupted your post. And I was quite tired yesterday. But no worries; I'll correct my mistaken reversion to the requests page. Cheers, and happy editing; Baffle gab1978 (talk) 23:50, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Tag

[edit]

Thank you for copy-editing Death of Sigrid Schjetne. Could you please add the GOCE tag to the articles talk page. Much appreciated.--BabbaQ (talk) 20:07, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear BabbaQ
Before I ended that session, I carefully edited a GOCE tag that was already there. Being concerned that my edit, of that tag, might not take, I opened a new browser instance, and checked. My edit was there, and it is still there.
This is so weird. You are the second Wikipedian to write me about that edit (see post immediately above). But as near as I can tell, both times the requested thing had been done prior to the request.
All the best, Nick

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Photo requests in Ann Arbor and/or western Oakland County

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on East Lansing High School. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.

If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.
An editor placed a valid tag, you removed it. Another editor replaced it and you removed it again, adding an edit note saying not to put it back. You have no consensus for this; not only are you edit warring, but your edit note is a violation of WP:OWN. Do not remove the tag again unless you add references to every entry. Notability sources are not needed, the Wikilink shows that. Attendance sources are needed. Tags are placed to show where improvement is needed. Improve the article if you want. Don't if you don't. But unless you do, leave the maintenance tag alone. John from Idegon (talk) 15:36, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Agriculture of California

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Agriculture of California. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Economy of California. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Economy of California. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. reddogsix (talk) 17:40, 14 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Dragonriders Of Pern; first published story.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Dragonriders Of Pern; first published story.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.

An article you recently created, Adolf von Baeyer Memorial Prize, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. In regards to out of date references at History of the Middle Eastern people in Metro Detroit

[edit]

Hi! I saw your tagging of History of the Middle Eastern people in Metro Detroit in regards to out of date references.

It is true that it is desirable to get the newest information on Wikipedia and that is something I support. One thing to bear in mind if that Wikipedia only considers published information. If there are indeed rapid changes but nobody documents them in published sources, the information can't go on Wikipedia.

I will amend the tag to make it clear how to improve the article. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:18, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@WhisperToMe: I like your suggestion. Your wording sounds good. My thoughts were, and are, that the default state of Wikipedia is to hound editors to provide reliable references. That is, it is hard to edit without such a reminder showing up. That was my reason for specifically mentioning the "12 years" old references. Due to the 10 year census requirement of the United States Constitution there has to have been a U.S. Census since that article was edited.
But I am a professional medical researcher, and do not know how to search the demographic data to find new data. I was hoping someone in the Detroit Metro Middle Eastern community, who does know the data, would edit the article.
I do know about coronaviruses, having worked for 4 years in a lab where they were a constant problem. They kept showing up in our cultures of the flu virus, probably from people with low level colds, since 15% of colds are caused by a species of corona virus.
Thanks again. I love the community of Wikipedia editors. I think we are working together to create on of the greatest projects. Nick Beeson (talk) 11:24, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome! I like the whole "two minds are better than one" aspect on Wikipedia, and how there are some quite resourceful people (especially on WP:RX)
One factor in the US Census is that people of Middle Eastern origins are counted as "white" in terms of racial classification (though in the 2020 Census people may be able to specify racial origins further in their census forms). see this Los Angeles Times article. They are counted as white in school racial statistics too.

Heiligen-Geist-Kapelle, Bruck

[edit]

In Heiligen-Geist-Kapelle, Bruck, you improved English, and I'm glad. Learning: when he hoped work would be done by Trinity Sunday, it was not yet the day after his funeral, - can that be expressed in English? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:03, 31 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you can say that in English. I studied German in college, and English is simply a strong dialect of German. If it can be said in German, then it can be said in English; often with the same number of words.
On June 7, 2020, Trinity Sunday, as Philipp Harnoncourt had wished, the completion of the restoration of the Holy Spirit Chapel in Bruck an der Mur was celebrated with a ceremony - just a few days after his death and one day after his funeral in Grundlsee.

Hello. I added a comment at Talk:Water vapor#Global_mean_of_total_column_precipitable_water_vapour mentioning your helpful edit a year ago [8], and wondered if you'd be able to double-check the source given as the figure quoted (1 cm) seems significantly out of alignment with others I found. Thanks if you have time to review. --Cedderstk 08:18, 22 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Toumeyella parvicornis et al.

[edit]

Hi, thank you for creating articles for Toumeyella parvicornis and its genus and subfamily. I understand you created the species and subfamily by copy-pasting the basic "skeleton" from another article. That is fine, but make sure you double check the stuff at the bottom of the article:categories, external links and taxonbar, and make sure these elements are updated to reflect the new article and not the one you'd copy-pasted from. Also, |parent= should not be used in speciesboxes in most situations (it's intended to show subgenus ranks, which aren't given in most articles); you had Myzolecaniinae as |parent= in Toumeyella parvicornis, which had the effect of omitting the display of a genus in the speciesbox.

Overall, you did a good job and I appreciate your work; I just wanted to point out what could be improved.Plantdrew (talk) 02:39, 23 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait of Count Stanislas Potocki by David

[edit]

Hi Nicholas Nwbeeson! I saw your recent contributions to Jacques-Louis David and I was wondering if you would be interested in collaborating on Portrait of Count Stanislas Potocki, a painting by David from 1781. The article has been mostly abandoned for the last two years and the work as well as its history are quite fascinating, from Enlightenment politics in Western and Eastern Europe to David's influence beyond France. I would love to bring it to GA or FA level, though due to other commitments, I am looking to team up with more editors. And feel free to recommend someone else if this is not something you would be interested in participating. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts! Many thanks. Ppt91 (talk) 16:11, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much. I will get back to you after I have looked into this issue. My knowledge of David and his art is slim. I am much stronger on the general historical background to his work. Let me have a week or two to research the Count and we will see. Nick Beeson (talk) 23:29, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from one or more pages into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Bon courage (talk) 14:33, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is this about laetrile? I am impressed by your measured response to 75.109.194.139 on the Amygdalin talk page. I find those people too distressing to ever be able to give that much response. I am grateful that you did that much work. I was paid, by Pfizer, to do synthetic chemistry, for six years. In 1980 I was assigned to the cancer group in their chemistry department. Laetrile was at that time already proven to be ineffective. Trust me, Pfizer Chemistry was deeply interested in finding any working anti-cancer agent.
I had never heard of Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thanks for that link.
I almost did not make that edit, because I avoid the controversial articles, after getting burned by the "Birds are NOT dinosaurs" idiots in 2007.
As an old chemist I find it puzzling that a derivative, Laetrile, of a compound, Amygdalin, is found within the parent compound page. By now I have 2,000 chemical compound articles, and I am nearly certain this is unique.
All the best, Nick Nick Beeson (talk) 16:30, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think the distinction is technically correct, but sources tend to elide them. This has been discussed before on the Talk page before and you may feel like re-raising it? Bon courage (talk) 18:07, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
