Pronunciations

[edit]

Hi Mariam, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I see you have attempted to add pronunciation guides in a number of pages. Please refer to MOS:PRON: for English pronunciations {{IPAc-en}} (and additionally {{respell}}) should be used (see Help:IPA/English and Help:Pronunciation respelling key for the way the are used), and only for uncommon words/names or counterintuitive pronunciations (so not the case for Blue Day (Mi-Sex song), for instance).

I also have noticed a number of your transcriptions were incomplete, dubious or even impossible, and all of them were unreferenced. Always try to provide a source backing your additions to the articles.

Sincerely, 〜イヴァンスクルージ九十八[IvanScrooge98]会話 12:23, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi IvanScrooge98,
Thank you for your observation regarding referencing. I do not know that this is applicable to transcriptions too. I will appreciate it if I could be guided on how to reference transcriptions.
However, I am quite offended at your choice of word by regarding my attempts as being 'dubious' and 'impossible'. If you say 'incomplete' due to the fact that some of the transcriptions lack diacritics, I think your use of language is rather face-threatening and against the ethical policy of the foundation. Even in an ideal classroom setting, a faculty should choose their words carefully.
Regards! Margob28 (talk) 14:17, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I did not mean to sound offensive or disrespectful. I just found that you did not use a lot of the standard IPA symbols (e.g. ⟨ᴂ⟩ instead of ⟨æ⟩ or ⟨ә⟩ instead of ⟨ə⟩), besides often lacking stress mark and placing transcriptions such as /kↄnɪdɪәʃәn/ for conidiation (which suggests an unstressed pronunciation for the suffix -ation, rather than the standard /-ˈeɪʃən/ always found in these words in English). For referencing, you can rely on pronunciation dictionaries (see for example {{cite EPD}}) or links to online videos etc. where the pronunciation is clearly heard. 〜イヴァンスクルージ九十八[IvanScrooge98]会話 14:31, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Apology accepted! Once again, I appreciate your observation. I went through the guidelines for transcription on the Wikipedia platform before I started making inputs. Based on my knowledge, I understand that IPA is universal except with periodic revisions. In the areas you have identified, I will make amends.
It is a pleasure meeting you! If I may ask, I would like to know your name.
I hope you would be ready to help if I need your help in the future. Margob28 (talk) 15:01, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
My name is Ivan, and it was my pleasure meeting you! Yes, we normally rely on IPA (mostly as we conventionally agree to use it in accordance with language-specific help pages: Help:IPA/English, Help:IPA/Italian, Help:IPA/Japanese and many more), with English also optionally using in addition to it the aforementioned respelling system. So make sure, whenever you add IPA, that it matches the project conventions (e.g. lever, which may be seen as /ˈlevə/ or /ˈlevə(r)/ in a number of works, should be transcribed as /ˈlɛvər/ and implemented through the {{IPAc-en}} template: /ˈlɛvər/). Anyway, I will gladly help you out if you need it. :)
(Oh, unrelated: if you wish to send a notification to a user you are replying to outside of their personal pages, you can use the {{ping}} template). 〜イヴァンスクルージ九十八[IvanScrooge98]会話 15:29, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Arjayay. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Kano State, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. - Arjayay (talk) 12:28, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, your current edit is an abuse as I am still working on the edit when you reverted it. It is a live edit. I am presently working on it just discovered it has disappeared within a twinkle of an eye and the, I started wondering why I couldn't use the visual edit anymore. This is bad an I am quite offended.

Margob28 (talk) 12:41, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Margob28 How was anyone to know you were "still working on it"? I saw multiple unsourced additions, in two sections, so deleted them. Despite my notification, above, it took you 13 minutes to realise, so you were hardly working on it full-time. References are not an "add-on-extra" they are integral to additions and changes to our articles, so should be added at the same time. If you want to work "back-handed" then you should compile it in your sandbox and transfer it to the article when it is fully referenced, not add things piecemeal to a live article.
There is now another problem, one of your references is "A Ph.D. Thesis submitted to the Geography Department , Bayero University". This is not a reliable, independent source, published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking, which is what references must be. Furthermore, we have a strict policy of No original research whereas PHD theses are, original research. You will need to replace this thesis by a reliable, independent source, published by a body with a reputation for fact-checking, or your additions based on that reference will be removed again. - Arjayay (talk) 15:05, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Arjayay, I appreciate your observation, which is quite impactful as against the destructive disposition you put up earlier. I have learnt something from your submission. People like you should encourage new editors rather than bullying us. The Wiki-space is wide enough for everyone to co-exist.

I apologise for my rude approach earlier. I was furious. I noticed the notification late but I could not publish a change I just effected on the section I was working on which subsequently, within a minute, disappeared. I will revisit the page and do the needful in the next 24 hours. Margob28 (talk) 20:20, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Category jeleel Ojuade requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. /Nigerian Independence moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, /Nigerian Independence, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at Draft:Nigerian Independence. Thanks! Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 17:54, 3 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, Margob28. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Nigerian Independence, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

Your draft article, Draft:Nigerian Independence

[edit]

Hello, Margob28. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Nigerian Independence".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 17:56, 3 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Margob28/main space moved to draftspace

[edit]

Thanks for your contributions to Margob28/main space. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because the subject of the article is a duplicate of Independence Day (Nigeria). Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.

Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 11:13, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciation

[edit]

Thank you for this piece of information. Margob28 (talk) 15:10, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Tanure ojaide indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 21:22, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Making inappropriate pages

[edit]

Hi. I've noticed that you have been creating some inappropriately-named articles lately, and I have had to delete several, such as Margob28/main page, Margob28/Akinloye Ojo - and also Akinloye Ojo, which was not suitable for mainspace. Please use draft space to create new articles and then submit them for review. Deb (talk) 09:42, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Making inappropriate pages

[edit]

Hello, it's disheartening that you bring down pages before consulting who created it. The pages might be considered inappropriate because I have a problem navigating my draft space; my sandbox as there's this redirect which has been automatically progrmmed on that page and has made it difficult for me to create article titles properly in the sandbox.

Secondly, I participated in a pilot programme in January and the articles I created,I was able to move them to the main space without assessment. Aside the issue of title, I don't think anything else is wrong with the article I created as every other rule guiding article creation; notability, citations, categories were strictly adhered to.

On this note, I see the act of bringing down articles without prior consultation of the editor as simply bullying on the wiki space. Margob28 (talk) 03:09, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You may use article wizard or Articles for Creation to create drafts; sandboxes are okay to do that but are more intended for testing. If an article or page is marked for speedy deletion, the original creator is notified on their user talk page. Speedy deletions may be carried out without delay or discussion if an administrator feels the named criteria has been met. Speedy deletions may be challenged at WP:DRV. 331dot (talk) 07:59, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you attempted to improve the short description on Timeline of Valencia. Short descriptions serve a specific purpose on Wikipedia. They are not definitions of an article's topic, and should not simply repeat the information contained in the article's title. Additionally, many articles intentionally have no short description when the article title is considered to be sufficient. If you have further questions, feel free to consult Wikipedia's information page regarding short descriptions, or leave a message on my talk page.
