Copying and pasting discussions

Hello! Just a quick question for you. In a recent edit summary on the Talk:Rey (Star Wars) page, you said, "Please don't copy-paste discussions from one talk page onto another. A link to the other discussion is typically more than sufficient in almost all cases." The reason I copied the discussion was because it took place on the Teahouse, where discussions get archived frequently. Once they're archived, a link to them doesn't work anymore. Or maybe I'm not aware of how to link to them properly? Please let me know if that's the case! Wafflewombat (talk) 05:32, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

You can link to the archive page once a post has been archived pretty much the same way you can link to any other page. In this case, your TH question can be found at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions/Archive 1226#Uploading new image. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:50, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip! Wafflewombat (talk) 06:54, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

Usage of copy-paste

So, you went to my talk page, and said to not copy paste as a reminder. My only usage of copy-pasting is when writing:

Titles. (I use copy-paste to take titles and put them on my edits of pages, such as when i added "This surge in popularity may have been partially from the Youtube video by the name of [japanese symbols here] (Mesmerizer)" to Kasane Teto's page. Mesmerizer is the translation of the japanese symbols, and due to using a danish keyboard, I could not use these japanese symbols as text, so I Copy-pasted them from the page on Youtube.)

Links. (On the same page and edit, I added a link to the video and song on Youtube, which copy-paste makes way easier. I hope you understand. this. Sleepyfellow03 (talk) 19:20, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

@Sleepyfellow03: The template I added to your user talk page wasn't about you copying and pasting content or copying and pasting Japanese symbols from a YouTube page; it had to do with you adding unsourced content to an article. You added a claim to the article Kasane Teto related to an interpretation that wasn't supported by citation to a secondary reliable source. A interpretation/claim that begins with This surge in popularity may have been partially from the Youtube video ... needs to be supported by a citation to a secondary reliable source in order for it to not be considered original research. I hope you understand this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:36, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Marchjuly
Thanks for your message! I have updated the file's page + the file's talk page with:

{{Di-replaceable non-free use disputed|I looked online but the only other photos of her that I could find were on sale from Getty Images and Alamy. The photo that I used was taken directly from her own website where she is promoting her works. I would consider contacting the artist or her representatives to request copyright permission, however given that there appear to be no other free images of her available I would instead further the view that this image is not replaceable}}

Control-alt-delete ★ usertalkfavs 17:19, 8 July 2024 (UTC)

For future reference, the template {{di-replaceable non-free use disputed}} is for use on file pages only; so, you shouldn't be enabling it on user talk pages or file talk pages. In addition, the fact the Grace is still alive is, in principle, almost always going to mean that a non-free use of her is never going to be allowed per Wikipedia 's non-free content use policy. It makes no difference whether the only images you can find of her are not released under a free license because it's pretty much always going to be considered reasonable to expect that a free equivalent image could be created to use instead of any non-free one. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:29, 9 July 2024 (UTC); edited 20:55, 11 July 2024 (UTC) [Note:Post edited to add "n't" to the word "should". -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:55, 11 July 2024 (UTC)]

Marilyn Manson photo

Hi, trying to change Marilyn Mansons photo to his new photo. I probably selected the wrong options but we need to change it and use that photo. Any help is appreciated thanks Norsefire2024 (talk) 00:20, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi Norsefire2024. Given that Manson is still living, neither the file you uploaded nor any other non-free file is going to allowed to be used per non-free content use criterion #1 of Wikipedia's non-free content use policy. So, if you want to replace the current file being used in the infobox in the article with a more recent photo of Manson, you're first going to need to find one that is either released under an acceptable free license or is for some reason considered to be within the public domain. If you're able to find such a photo, you should then you should probably discuss it at Talk:Marilyn Manson to see whether there exists a WP:CONSENSUS to make the change. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:40, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

Your e-mail

Whoa, I hope you don't really expect me to read all of that editnotice. :-) I was wondering if she would use Commons to continue her crap. I'd even looked much earlier today but she hadn't yet done anything. Also, although she pinged me in her posts, I don't get notifications unless I go to Commons (I have notifications from other projects turned off, too annoying). Anyway, I appreciate the heads up.--Bbb23 (talk) 22:13, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

She doesn't give up, does she? Now globally locked.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:20, 14 July 2024 (UTC)
They were advised to be careful and given suggestions as how to proceed, but instead chose to continue on as before; so, the global lock is not really surprising. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:41, 14 July 2024 (UTC)

Merging an article

@Marchjuly:, It has been suggested to merge the Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air Force article to Roshan Goonetileke, I do not know how to merge, please tell me the system of merging, after merging contents from the Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air Force to Roshan Goonetileke, will the Marshal of the Sri Lanka Air Force article be redirected to Roshan Goonetileke? Hamwal (talk) 08:41, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

I'm not sure why you're asking me about this. I know nothing about either of these articles. If you want to propose a merge or need help to perform a merge, try looking at WP:MERGE. You can also try asking for help on one of the two talk page of the articles you want to merge, or at either WP:HD or WP:MCQ. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:41, 18 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Dinesh Yadav Lohia (09:38, 20 July 2024)

फोटो क्यों नहीं लग रहा है --Dinesh Yadav Lohia (talk) 09:38, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

@Dinesh Yadav Lohia: I don't understand whatever language you're using. Can you re-ask your question in English? -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:41, 20 July 2024 (UTC)

I've received no responses on this topic, which you asked about at WT:WPMA. Since there is questionable notability and no defense of the article at that location, you may want to go ahead and put it up for an AfD discussion. Papaursa (talk) 19:38, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Thanks for trying. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:26, 21 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Kurama2024 on Talk:Peter Capaldi filmography (15:05, 25 July 2024)

hi i don't know how to do it, but Peter Capaldi did a Audiobook called Watership Down Unabridged version 2019, The Book is by Richard Adams --Kurama2024 (talk) 15:05, 25 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi Kurama2024. I will add a general information template about Wikipedia to your user talk page. For reference, though, the best place to ask for assistance regarding a particular Wikipedia article is on the article's corresponding talk page. So, in this case, that would be either Talk:Peter Capaldi or Talk:Peter Capaldi filmography. Asking at "Talk:Peter Capaldi" might get you a faster response because they're probably more Wikipedians watching that talk page than there are watching "Talk:Peter Capaldi filmography". You should provide some kind of link to a WP:RELIABLESOURCE in your post to aid in the verification of the information. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:00, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
