Kana and Romanaization
Dear Chris-san, could you please read User_talk:WhisperToMe#an alternative romanization? It is about Kana spelling reform. I hope it will throw some light on the recurrent questions of Romanization systems of the Japanese Language.--Kmns tsw (talk) 11:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to comment on article naming you
I have decided to write, in my own good time, an article about certain "recent experiences" related to Wikipedia, the nature of which are, or should be, well known to you. This article shall name you, under your moniker, "Kintetsubuffalo."
In the interest of fairness, I shall provide you with a copy of this article, prior to publication, for the purpose of feedback, provided: that you disclose, to me, your true name (I remind you that my true name is known to you). You might wish to do this through a "non-public" channel; if so, then e-mail me and I will send you my mailing address. You might also wish to request that I keep your true name confidential; if so, then I shall honor that request.
I shall consider the fact of your "non-response" to this invitation as subject for "fair comment" in the article. Ldemery (talk) 18:50, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

With the 39th Annual Manzanar Pilgrimage coming up on April 26, I have nominated Manzanar to be on Wikipedia's main page on that date. Please add your support for that at Today's featured article requests -- Gmatsuda (talk)

Xinjiang protests
That'd be great. I have a ton of homework due, so I have to limit my wiki-time. Start off with looking at the sources I used for the Mutallip Hajim. Also take a look at the NY times article:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/03/world/asia/03china.html?scp=1&sq=hotan&st=nyt
There seems to be 3 issues involved: Mutallip Hajim's death, a ban on head scarfs, and perhaps sympathy with the Tibet protests, but it appears the primary motives are local. David Straub (talk) 12:40, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Burma Girl Guides Badge
Hello Chris. It says asinthint, the same scout motto: "Ever Ready" or "Always Prepared". Wagaung (talk) 15:10, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Erm, sorry to write here - I do not know any other way to contact you. It is, if I am not wrong, "A-sin-thint" - which means Ready or prepared. I hope it helps. Uthantofburma (talk) 13:57, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I agree. It's not asin athint as I'd said about the scout motto before, so I stand corrected. This appears to be the motto since it's on the badge. Sorry, I can't render it into Burmese script here either. Ask Hintha - hope he's okay and available to help. Wagaung (talk) 16:10, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Chris, I just found out Evil Monkey had also uploaded the script in graphic svg files for many an article. Wagaung (talk) 16:30, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just to add myself to this conversation. It has been a while since I made those little SVG images. Been a hard drive format since then but I should be able to work out how to do it again. Basically they are just created in Inkscape using the Padauk font. The only difficulty I have sometimes is working out what the correct character is. What would you like recreated as a SVG? I don't think that wikipedia is an apprpoiate forum for people of ANY ethnicity to spew out hatred of my country. The Japanese American internment was racist and wrong but maybe you should study up on the barbarities of Imperial Japan to get a comparison.Try Rape of Nanking .Please do not threaten me anymore about banning or blocking.Perhaps a more appropriate forum for the statement that 'America should be ashamed' would be www.democraticunderground.comSaltforkgunman (talk) 04:39, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I must admit i have alot to learn on this aspect, if i want to continue my passions putting up the right images for my articles. Bleckende
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Bleckende, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice?

New Project
Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 06:58, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Assistance and a second set of eyes
I've probably got myself into another debate here that isn't worth my time, but please review my edits and my discussions at Südtiroler Pfadfinderschaft. I am quite knowledgeable on this region and I tried to update the wikilinks while clarifying the historical context. The user Jergen reverted the edits, made nonsense claims in the talk section, and stated that since the article is about a German scouting group, that the terms should be in German (!?!). My understanding of Wikipedia policy is that we update wikilinks and always maintain English usage. Anyway, I don't want an edit war, I hope we can have some simple discussions on the talk page. If I'm wrong about something I'm happy to hear it and be corrected (hopefully with logic :). I personally thought I did a good job at updating the links and also clarifying a bit why the certain terms are used and also that the province of Bolzano/Bozen is part of the southern area of the historical count of Tyrol. Alto Adige and especially South Tyrol are more recent colloquial terms. cheers, Icsunonove (talk) 23:03, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Colour version of West Indies Coat of Arms
Hey there. Noticed you were the one to put in the coat of arms image for the West Indies Federation page. Just thought you might be interested in knowing that there's a colour version of those arms at www.westindiaregiment.org - just check the sidebar to the left. Perhaps it could be copied from the site with permission?
Oh and from the site where this black and white version was taken from it seems that the flag in the article is wrong - the sun symbol in the centre should be orange-red as it was originally, not yellow (although I'm not sure if you had anything to do with the flag).72.27.161.159 (talk) 01:29, 7 June 2008 (UTC)

South African Scout Association GA Sweeps Review: On Hold
As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria and I'm specifically going over all of the "Culture and Society" articles. I have reviewed South African Scout Association and believe the article currently meets the majority of the criteria and should remain listed as a Good article. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, and I'll leave the article on hold for seven days for them to be fixed. I have left this message on your talk page since you have significantly edited the article (based on using this article history tool). Please consider helping address the several points that I listed on the talk page of the article, which shouldn't take too long to fix with the assistance of multiple editors. I have also left messages on the talk pages for other editors and a related WikiProject to spread the workload around some. If you have any questions, let me know on my talk page and I'll get back to you as soon as I can. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 00:38, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Coat of arms of Tibet
Hi Kintetsubuffalo. I was curious about two things concerning the Coat of arms of Tibet article. The first is that when you wrote the original version, you included the sentence, As a symbol of the Tibetan independence movement, it is banned in the People's Republic of China, including the Tibet Autonomous Region which corresponds to the former area of control of the Tibetan government at Lhasa, as well as other areas in greater Tibet. The word "banned" had a citation, but no link. It simply had a ref: <ref name="tibflag"/>. For that reason, it was removed last October and replaced with a {{citation needed}} tag. Can you please relocate the original source? The second request is when you have the time - can please check out my comment on the talk page? I have proposed a possible page move. Thanks. Abkazian SSR and Soviet Union templates
Hi, can you look on User_talk:Alex_Bakharev#Pianist_ru. I know that Pianist.ru is not the most pleasant collaborator on en-wiki (partially because his English is not that good) but in the dispute regarding inclusion of Abkhazian SSR to templates he IMHO right: Abkhazian SSR was never a first range member of the Soviet Union. Thus, its inclusion in the list with the full members of the Soviet Union, even short lived as Karelo-Finnish Soviet Socialist Republic is misleading. Do you have any source that includes Abkhazian SSR in the list of Union members? Alex Bakharev (talk) 12:40, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

Andorra
- The first source ([8], dated July 1, 2007) reads:
- S’estudia la creació d’un agrupament escolta a Andorra
- La possible obertura d’un agrupament escolta a Andorra ha estat debatut en els darrers dies pels comissaris, el consiliari, el responsable internacional dels Escoltes i el bisbe Mons. Joan-Enric i el vicari general Mn. Joan Pujol.
- Study on the creation of a Scout group in Andorra
- The possible opening of a Scout group in Adorra was discussed during the last days between the commissioners, the counselors and the intenational responsable of the Scouts and Bishop Joan-Enric as well as vicar general Joan Pujol. (...)
- The second ([9], Minutes of the European Scout Committee, 13-15 June 2008) says:
- Paolo Fiora reported on work being done in Andorra with those that have expressed an interest in trying to establish Scouting there.
Excuse me for not translating the whole of the Catalan text; the rest is not on Andorra but on the development of the association. --jergen (talk) 17:16, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi Chris, working my way through the associatons'articles, I just reached Vietnamese Scout Association. In my eyes this article is a terrible mess mixing historic organizations, Scouts in exile and the actual situation. I think we should split it in three articles:
- historic association inside Vietnam
- Vietnamese Scouts-in-exile
- actual situation/development since 1975
Unfortunately, there are very little English or French source on the actual situation. But even newer sources like [10] are not included.
What do you think about splitting the article? --jergen (talk) 11:18, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége,Magyar Cserkészet Tanácsa, Magyar Cserkészszövetség
founded January 28th 1989 translation: Hungarian Scout Groups Association formed in 1990 together with the Magyar Cserkészszövetség (refounded in 1988) the Magyar Cserkészet Tanácsa (Council of Hungarian Scouting), which became a WOSM member in 1990. In 1992 the registration of Hungary with the World Scout Bureau was changed from the Magyar Cserkészet Tanácsa to Magyar Cserkészszövetség. In 1993 Magyar Cserkészövetség had 25.000 members, Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége 300. Further more important causes for the change of registration were that the Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége blocked the work of the Federation and didn´t answer letters sent by WOSM. Further more there were problems within Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége.In 1992 15 groups of Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége joined Magyar Cserkészövetség.Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége doesn´t exist anymore.
The Magyar Cserkészszövetség (coed) was always the traditional Scouts. They said in 1988 we want return to real Scouting (i.e. with a promise that includes the Duty to God). They revived the Hungarian Scouting traditions. Magyar Cserkészlány Szövetség (Hungarian Girl Scouts Association) was also a traditional Girl Guides organization. They revived Hungarian Guiding traditions.
Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége (also coed) said you can not revive traditional Scouting and Guiding in Hungary and the two other associations are linked too close to the Churches. Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége let their groups big independence. In 1989 the had close ties to the Patriotic People´s Front.
Magyar Cserkészcsapatok Szovetsége used Fleur-de-lis with the Hungarian National Colours. Magyar Cserkészszövetség used the traditional Hungarian Scout badge with the Crown of Saint Stephen.

Copyright problem: Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://n2zgu.50megs.com/KAZ.htm, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted.
If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) then you should do one of the following:
- If you have permission from the author leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan and send an email with confirmation of permission to "permissions-en (at) wikimedia (dot) org". See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
- If a note on the original website states that re-use is permitted under the GFDL or that the material is released into the public domain leave a note at Talk:Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan with a link to where we can find that note.
- If you own the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en(at)wikimedia(dot)org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan.
It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at Talk:Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan/Temp. Leave a note at Talk:Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing! Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:33, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- If you are familiar with the host of that site, as you indicate here, it should be a simple matter to verify that the material is free for use by having him make a notice of that at the external site by the process set forth in the template note above. Once he does so, or otherwise provides permission, the article can be restored as is. Otherwise, remaining material that duplicates that source will need to be removed, as it demonstrably predates Wikipedia's article here. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:42, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
- I have also tagged Organizatsia na Bulgarskite Skauty. As with the article above, we need external verification to publish this material on Wikipedia. Once that is provided, the current contents can be restored. Otherwise, remaining material that mirrors the external, earlier source will need to be removed. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:54, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Your note
Thank you for discussing this with me civilly. :) It truly has not been my desire to assume bad faith with you, although it was difficult to make any assumption when you chose not to discuss the matter at Magyar Cserkészszövetség. Before revising that article, I did verify that you had received my note at your talk page and continued editing. But the reason I blanked the last two articles rather than revising or removing material of concern was because when you did choose to participate, you asserted that you had a relationship with the webmasters. I have no reason to doubt you. You're obviously passionate about this project and have a long involvement in it. I wanted you to have the opportunity to follow through with the permissions process. As I explained at the scouting project's talk page, this blanking is standard procedure in these cases. It is a staying measure while the matter is processed and isn't mean to indicate a presumption of guilt. This verification would be required of anyone at any level at Wikipedia, just for the legal protection of the project.
Wikipedia has chosen to proactively attend to copyright concerns, rather than waiting for copyright holders to complain, as required by the DMCA. This is probably a good move, since Wikipedia's right to protection under that act has been challenged in the past, and there's always the possibility that we could be found guilty of retroactive malfeasance if it is determined we do not qualify. Our best defense is to be able to demonstrate that we exercise due diligence in house to guard against problems. I think the system Wikipedia has in place is a pretty good one, although it can be a pain in the neck to jump through the hoops. Until we require identity verification on account creation, though, it's the only legally sound way for Wikipedia to protect itself.
I have absolutely no desire to see you driven away from Wikipedia or to revise this material. I'll be very happy to see the permissions process go through and to move on with the run-of-the-mill matters at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. Even if the permissions process doesn't work out for some reason, I hope you won't feel it is an indication that you'd need to leave the project. (And please remember that even if the information referenced above doesn't come through, a note releasing the material under GFDL at any websites involved is all it takes.) I agree with what you say in your note; you seem to me to be doing good things for Wikipedia, too. I hope you'll continue doing them. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:41, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
- I wanted to request an update on Organizatsia na Bulgarskite Skauty and Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan. I know you showed me an e-mail you had received from one of the webmasters. Have you sent verification to the Communications Committee? Traditionally, matters are listed for seven days before problematic material is removed, but sometimes the Communications Committee takes a little longer. If you've sent the letters for oversight to log, I'll make a note at the copyright problems board what's going on and put them into the consolidated listing for additional time. Thanks. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 20:39, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the update, and sorry for your illness. I will make a note that permission on Organization of the Scout Movement of Kazakhstan has been sent to the Communications Committee. I am revising the material at Organizatsia na Bulgarskite Skauty since your letter did not address the matter of pinetreeweb and since that website still asserts "Copyright © Lewis P. Orans, 2002" Should you have more free time in the future and wish to secure permission for that material, it can be restored. Please let me know if you get word back from the Communications Committee. This process can be slow-going. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 12:38, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- And speaking of slow-going, I see that the letter has still not been processed. I'm guessing that you have not heard anything back from the communications committee yet. Sometimes I have to contact them several times. At this point, I see two options. We can either keep the page blanked (and maybe resend your letter) or can revise the material until the OTRS ticket is logged at the article's talk page. I'm content to go either way, but am not sure which would be preferable to you and your project. If you'd like me to go ahead and revise the article so that it can be published in some form while we wait, please let me know. Of course, in that case, you're welcome to make edits to my revision to bring it in line with your project's standards. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:57, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

User notice: temporary 3RR block
Regarding reversions[15] made on November 19 2008 to General William J. Palmer High School
Kintetsubuffalo (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
the so-called "edit-war" is between myself, an established three-year editor who is replacing properly multiply-sourced material, and a new user and his sock/meatpuppets who are removing this sourced material without providing sources of their own. I ask that you lift this block, and further that you protect General_William_J._Palmer_High_School from edits by new users. Check the edit history. When is continually removing sourced material considered to be a viable edit? Note-in addition, this is my first such block, and I would ask once I am found not to have been engaged in an actual edit-war, that this be cleaned off my record. I'm not perfect, but I'm not blockworthy. Further note-the other user in question has now created another account to pick up where he left off, and continues to remove the material from the Palmer article. I submit that this shows I was not dealing with an equitable editor, but an SPA and probably a vandal.
Decline reason:
Yeah, you may or may not be in the right, but calling another user a retard in an edit summary makes you lose the moral high ground here. It is clear this was not simply drive by vandalism, both of you have battling sources which support your position. Neither side looks particularly good in this war; when the block expires take it up at the talk page, and work out your differences there rather than repeatedly enforcing your version of the article with reverts. — Jayron32.talk.contribs 03:18, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
- Well, the problem is that the content under discussion wasn't vandalism or a BLP violation, so repeatedly removing it was edit warring. 3RR is the tripwire that allows an admin to step in and stop that action immediately (thought edit warring need not be >3 reverts). Disputing content of an article needs to be done at the talk page--it is better in the long run to let the "wrong" version of an article stand rather than revert over a preferred version. Protonk (talk) 02:25, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that repeatedly removing the content was edit warring, but I was not doing the removing, the disruptive editor was repeatedly removing it. I was replacing the sourced material. I brought it to the talk page and there was no answer. Again, this is a longterm editor versus an SPA that does not cite sources for their removal. This is not just two regular editors going at it. I've had that happen and that can be solved, usually. The other user in question has now created another account to pick up where he left off, and continues to remove the material from the Palmer article. I submit that this shows I was not dealing with an equitable editor, but an SPA. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 02:37, 20 November 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not being clear. Since the change in content wasn't vandalism or an otherwise acceptable excemption from WP:EW, continually reverting the content changes was edit warring. Blocking both parties was one way to end the disruption on the article. I mean, I don't want to be a jerk and say "you broke rule XYZ" over and over again, but 3rr is a line in the sand that can't be crossed. Remember that this isn't a black mark or a sign of your underlying moral character. It doesn't make you a vandal or a vindictive person. It just means that you were blocked. Plenty of admins, bureaucrats and other long-term users have been blocked for edit warring (either early in their time here or not). It was clear from William's block that he knows that you aren't the one starting the disruption or forcing the issue--just that you should have stopped reverting and tried dispute resolution. Do you have any information on this emblem? I fear that "one of the independent regional organizations" is to little to keep this image. --jergen (talk) 11:36, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
- I do not think that "regional Scouting emblem from Zemgale" is sufficient to keep it. We have very little information on Scouting in Latvia and I am not even sure if and how many independent organizations exist. I could not find anything searching the web, except the LSGCO and the UIGSE-member.
- I just checked the history, and - astonishingly - it was me writing about the existence of independent organizations... Can't remember what source I did use. I will search harder. --jergen (talk) 08:51, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

Chris: when you propose a merge, please start a discussion on the target talk page and list it at WP:SCOUT. You need to give a reason for each merge, even if it is a boilerplate copy. For camps, I suggest:
The article does not meet standards per Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies); specifically: "Individual chapters of national and international organizations are usually not notable enough to warrant a separate article unless sufficient notability is established through reliable sources that extend beyond the organization's local area."
- There are no Wikipedia:reliable sources that establish notability outside of the local area.
- There is no evidence that the camp has a separate existence outside of the council.
- There is no evidence that the camp offers any significant services outside of the council.

Assyrian Christian Stele
I said on his talk page that given the clear lack of sources (as well as the resulting WP:OR) for the name Assyrian Christian Stele, I would nominate the article for deletion if he didn't just leave it as a redirect. I suppose I'll get that process going. Otebig (talk) 21:25, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- The AFD was closed by MBisanz. He decided the outcome was a redirect. I have no idea how he got this conclusion, and in a discussion on his talk page he keeps claiming there was a community consensus for this (even those the two votes for redirect were in the opposite direction was what MBisanz did). The WP:OR and WP:RS violations were never addressed. I get the impression he, as well as some people commenting on the AFD, did not read things too closely. I asked him to repoen it. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Usually I'd let matters like this drop, but the apathy towards such a blatant case of WP:OR is really bugging me. Otebig (talk) 04:41, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- I created a deletion review here. Otebig (talk) 16:53, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

Sich riflemen/Urainian Sich Riflemen/Ukranian scouts
Hi Chris
I am responding to ensure clarification in this matter
- "Ukrainian Sich riflemen" (1914-1920)refers to a unit of the Hungarian army
- "Sich riflemen" (1917-1919)refers to events when some of the the unit went to Kyiv and started a different group by absorbing local fighters and the youth organisation
As you can see these are military units, or at least para military, and so are not really related to the scouting movement, more related to the military term scout - someone who knows a lot about the local area and is used for forwards observation. These scout units established in Europe during the first part of the 20th century were not really akin to the modern day scout units. They were paramilitary units designed for living off the land and defending the homeland during times of war or invasion.
It may be that you are wishing to start a "Ukranian Scouts page" to support the modern day scouting movement since the fall of the USSR, there is not one so if that was your wish I am sure that would be OK see below↓
I am intending to remove the "suggested merge" tags, and may I suggest that the scout project discuss removing their tags from the pages to avoid confusion for now ?
There are however several pages reffering to scout movements in Ukraine, Ukrainian_Plast,National_Organization_of_Scouts_of_Ukraine and Scouting_in_Ukraine
sorry if this makes it more complicated--Chaosdruid (talk) 17:14, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Reply to resolved
Hi Chris
I am a little upset that you have removed the resolved tag, please can you explain exactly why you did this. You asked "can these two Sich pages be merged" and that clearly has been resolved.
As for your other question, I think it might be best if you tried to ask the Plast themselves, or members of your Project Scouting
It seems to me that you have removed the resolved tag as we have not answered your question on the Sich scouting movement. Clearly the Sich articles that you showed interest in are not to do with the scouting movement. You also have the three articles on scouting in Ukraine so I am a little confused as to exactly it is that you require help with.
The reference in the article "a national camp in their training and camping centre Plastova Sich in Canada.[12] Oleksander Tysovsky took part in this camp." - simply put this means they called their camp "the Plast fortress"
The only mention I can find on SIch is the mention in the letter introducing the PLast merge in 1996[17], where it says "Many groups, such as scouts of Dnipropetrowsk (Skif), Perekop (in Crimea), "Chysta Krynytsia", "Sich", etc have now formally or informally joined the Plast organization."
Chysta Krynytsia means Crystal well, Perekop is an area of the Crimea, Dnipropetrowsk is an area of Ukraine , and it seems to me that these titles are only for the individual groups of scouts of the PLast, like naming them "the Tiger troop" or "the Founding Fathers troop" or "the Minutemen troop".
I am sure that if anyone here can help you, they will.
thanks--Chaosdruid (talk) 05:20, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

Have I been heavy handed ? If so please tell me how. I have spent over two hours trying to help you and I have simply put the reply I gave to you into the Project Ukraine page. Is it really necessary to include a new page, why cannot you simply put a SICH section into one of the other articles ? If SICH information is needed why do you not ask NOSU, or Plast for a contact email ?. --Chaosdruid (talk) 05:51, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- By being "upset" publicly, when I make an edit that you disagree with, just as I explained, instead of just asking me why. It smacked of bad faith, and I don't think you meant it that way, especially as you have helped me, which I am most appreciative of. You might have asked why I did it here without posting your displeasure with me at the Ukrainian project.
- I can't put a Sich section into the articles until I have some info, and before last night, all I had was a name. I have asked both organizations for help, no answer was forthcoming. You seem really resistant that I simply just ask here at the Wikipedia. For me, any way to get an answer provides the answer.
- I do thank you for your help, I really don't want there to be any off feeling between us. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 05:58, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Sich scouts
Hi again !
In answer to your comment on good faith, which I did not notice till a little while ago as I was editing, I did not assume that it was malice or not in good faith. As I said to you, "It seems to me that you have removed the resolved tag as we have not answered your question on the Sich scouting movement." and then I tried to answer it for you !! No malice was, is or will be assumed and I certainly took it as in good faith.
Anyway I have started a new topic on the Project Ukraine discussion page, which is why I did not notice the other thing, and hope it meets your needs
cheers--Chaosdruid (talk) 06:11, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- PS - I would try to contact my cousin in Kiev, hes from Lviv which is probably the exact area that the sich troop/organisation is but my emails are down and it may take a few days to get them back up and running as the pc that does that has blown its power supply--Chaosdruid (talk) 06:30, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you so much, that's great! Why do you suspect Lviv is likely the nexus? Western Ukraine does seem to be where things happen... Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 06:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think that the references to the Sich rifles and riflemen are all based around Kiev and Lviv (the Dnieper river area) and so it is probable that it will be a group from that area. As the start of the Sich Rifles was Glaicia (this same region) and they defended Kiev (Kyiv), and also the Ukranian Sich riflemen were from Galicia also, and the centre of Cossack Zaporozhian Sich, which the youth organisations were based on, was also mainly in Galicia and specifically "In 1911 a Lviv philosophy student Ivan Chmola organized a secretive paramilitary organization Plast"
- I know this is all very confusing as they mention youth group etc, but remember these were paramilitary in basis and reflected the earlier Sich culture, going back to the 1800's, all based around gaining independence for Galicia from Polish, Austro Hungarian and then Russian empires, going back to the 1600's - try this link for more clarity Sich links
- Anyway, I don't know where in the world you are, but here it is UTC and it's 07:00 so I'm off to bed ! - Sorry to see about your wife btw, I knwo how that feels. Hope all is well for you and your family - the pain does not go away, it simply comes less often.

Sorry that I deleted a couple of these repeatedly. I've been converting all the old {{Translation}} templates to a new, more useful set of templates so I've been going through them rapidfire. Many of these templates were placed even back in 2005 and 2006 so they are no longer useful, so some of them I have been removing. Patricia De Martelaere page edit
Hi mate. I'd just like to ask if your edit is definitely correct. I added the cause of death here recently. I'm not a native speaker of English, but having studied the English language, I'm aware of the differences between "to die of" and "to die from". (Finally, regarding the article "the" - if you do the 'rude' test and type into Google the phrases "died of the consequences of" and "died from the c.s of", you get more than 10 pages of results in each case, but if you type in "died from c.s of" - your phrase -, you only get 7 pages). Perhaps you're right - then I'd be happy to have learnt something :) Greets Alex —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.51.42.128 (talk) 05:48, 11 March 2009 (UTC)

Sounds like an advertisement
Hi. You recently tagged the Heritage Christian Academy article as sounding like an advertisement. I read the help pages on NPOV and have made a number of changes. I admit that when I created the page in the beginning, I used content from the HCA webpage, which, of course, is meant to have some marketing impact on the reader. I tried to rewrite it so that it focusses on facts. Also, I am working with one of the administrators at the school to put together the history going back to 1970. When I get that pulled together, I will have more newspaper articles as reference, more notable accomplishments, and a more interesting article from a history perspective. Again, I will focus on a NPOV. Thanks, Dreeser (talk) 20:48, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

EAMUS
EAMUS (Latin for "Let's go" or perhaps better "Let's walk together") is one of at several Roman Catholic prayer groups within French Scouting. Based in Lyon, it claims participation from all major Catholic Scouting organizations. The group meets monthly for an hour of prayer (20 min doxology, 20 min sermon, 20 adoration); uniform is requested. Website: http://eamus.over-blog.com/
The group is below notablity on its own but signifies the recent efforts for an unification of Catholic Scouting in France which is divided in three major and several smaller organizations. Nearly all of these efforts are grass root movements and not supported by the officials of the organizations.
A similar group exists in Paris (http://www.fraternite.net/montmartre/). --jergen (talk) 10:42, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't have any relevant informations on this event but will make an educated guess: WOSM requests interregional cooperations between neighbouring regions. It looks like there's already an article (Iga-ryu Ninja Museum), so I've removed it from the requested articles page. Was there anything in particular you wanted to see in that article? I visited the museum a few years ago; it seemed pretty small and mostly notable for the throwing star demonstrations it puts on for the little kids who are the main visitors. Scouting in Somalia.png
What organization does File:Scouting in Somalia.png belong to? Scouting in Somalia lists no NSOs, and using the image in an infobox asserts that it is the logo of Scouting for the entire country. We don't have infoboxes for other Scouting and Guiding in... article for the same reason. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gadget850 (talk • contribs)
- What then should I do about the tag you placed on the image? I know normally we're on the same side, right now (my view) you're overzealous on image-tagging and removal. Better you than that one guy, but still, point me in the direction you're asking for, because we're of different minds on these images. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 14:34, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- The question remains— if this is a logo, then who is the organization it represents? Looking at the rationale again, I now see some discussion about stamps that I don't understand. Did the image come from a stamp? Are you trying to state that the existence of a stamp proves the existence of an organization?
- Sorry, I cut and pasted the rationale from the stamp image as same country. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- And the reason I jumped on Somalia this morning— someone on Scouts-L in the Chicago Area Council is working with the children of Somalian refugees in the area. He wanted information on Scouting in Somalia to try to use some of there traditions.
- That's wonderful, wish we had more to say. Most African countries don't have much if any published info, Wikipedia is as close as some get. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- Please note that I have not deleted or put up for deletion any images, except for those that I have replaced. I am removing images that are used inappropriately, where such removal would not result in deletion. I am tagging non-free images that would become orphaned and deleted if I removed them. My hope is that we can fix these and keep the images.
- Thanks and I am sorry, I totally respect you and did not mean to sound bitey if I did. Truly Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- We still have galleries of emblems in the Scouting and Guiding in... articles; the guideline is Wikipedia:Non-free content#Non-free image use in galleries. Yes, I know it mentions exceptions, but I don't see any need for exceptional use in any of the articles.
- I get that you're taking them out where you can, and again, better you than that guy.
- I don't see that the uses of logos in the Scouting and Guiding in... articles is really justified. If we have enough information to find a logo, then we should have enough to create even a stub article with enough references to show notability.
- Ah, that one is a logical fallacy. Sometimes it's the chicken, sometimes it's the egg. I am always on the lookout for information on the little orgs, it's my bread and butter, there's enough of you guys taking care of BSA, Jergen and Zaian and I seem to pick up the third world, but it's sketchy and piecemeal at best. I have a French buddy doing some research, just many times the badge is known where nothing else is. I know it sounds weird. WOSM only covers WOSM countries, and their research is lazy (better than WAGGGS, but...) so some of these little orgs get nothing. Ever seen the World Scouting poster put out by WOSM? It's half round purple World Crests because nobody bothered to look further when they didn't get an answer due to poor mail or internal strife or... Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- If we don't clean up after ourselves, someone else is going to do it for us and will cause a lot of anguish and disruption. We need to give the persistent perception that we are doing police call here.
- I am totally with you on that, thank you for the clarification. And again, never give up, even when it seems I am hardheaded. I'll come around once I understand. :) Always your friend, Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- We will figure it out. If you are relying on stamps to prove the existence of an organization, then I think you may be on shaky ground. eBay has a bunch of Scouting-related stamps from Somalia, but these are either fake of a fantasy. Why would they have stamps of a polar bear or wolves in snow? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 15:36, 23 June 2009 (UTC)
- In some cases you're right, like ones for individual Russian republics, they're called Cinderella issues, and they are only sold outside the country as a moneymaker. The stamps I chose and use are postmark-cancelled to show actual use, and I use ones that appear to show actual knowledge of Scouting (I know the ones you're talking about), except in the case of Turkmenistan, which show BP and Diana of Wales (no sense), and Scouting and cats, again no sense except that someone on the ground there is thinking. Notice I removed three stamp issues because we have the real emblems now, working on the rest. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 15:51, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Did you read these anecdotes anywhere? Hermandad Scout del Desierto
The organization was founded in 2006 with a single group which was - as far as I understood - formerly a member of the Agrupación Nacional de Boy Scouts de Chile; there was seemingly some kind of personal conflict with the latters local staff. Actually the organization has about 300 members [22], mainly in Antofagasta, but also in Arica which is about 500km/300mi away.
HSD is supported by the local chapters of the Lions Clubs International and seemingly enjoys also strong support by Antofagasta's mayor. HSD claims to put more emphasis on civic engagement than ANBSCH, but I could not check this. There are some hints that HSD maintains a traditional style of Scouting but that's only a guess (and the interpretation of "traditional" depends of the individual background).
At least one local group put up a website: (spam link rm'd); the former website of the organization is accessible via the internet archive: http://usuarios.lycos.es/scoutsdesierto
I do not think that HSD meets the notability criteria of Wikipedia: There are very little independent sources and the organization is still quite small. I think we should check again when HSD claims more than 500 members. --jergen (talk) 09:19, 9 August 2009 (UTC)

Uncle Monty
Hi Chris. My Uncle Monty was a different man - born 1900, died 1994. He was a Chief Justice and held various high diplomatic postings. When I knew him he was already very old and I guess feeble, but he certainly seemed sprightly to me. He used to get up at 4 in the morning to begin the day with meditation, and kept on going to around midnight. It's a real shame that the lives of these grand old men of Burma's past haven't been recorded. Burma faced a fork in the road in 1962/64, and of course we know what turned out, but the evidence of the possible alternative was still around in 1988 in the persons of Monty and others like him - Sein Win the journalist, many more, all dead now. Hi Chris, I saw that you'd asked for it to be written over, but don't really follow why. What is the harm of having two versions? Anyway, feel free to overwrite it if you feel that strongly about it, but I don't really think it's necessary. TastyCakes (talk) 21:25, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sure, I'd be happy to try and help. About the bandwidth though, Wikipedia keeps old versions of files (you can see them underneath the active version) on its servers, so overwriting it wouldn't really save any space. And I figure someone spent some time making the old one (it looks pretty nice to me) and it might be useful to base another map off of one day. TastyCakes (talk) 16:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
While the image is better quality than the poster I uploaded, it is not an "original" poster. Rather it is the DVD cover for the American release. I see you're a regular editor of the Waking Ned article, so I'll put a compromise to you: How would you feel about having the Region 2 DVD cover with the original title in the infobox until a better image of the poster comes along? Zarma
You asked how to say "Be prepared" in Zarma on the Zarma page. You might say "Soola" (singular) or "Wa soola" (plural), which simply means "Get ready". The expression could be literally translated something like "(Wa) bara soolante", but this sounds very awkward in Zarma -- "translationese". Are you in Niger? Ask a Nigérien how he or she would say it.

Image improvements
You tagged images such as File:Solomon Islands branch of The Scout Association.png for removal of the border. I am starting to think that you want the patch background removed on these. Sometimes I can do that, but most of the time it is beyond my abilities. If this is what you want, tag them as "Redraw to remove background". If they just need to be cropped for whitespace, then tag them as "Crop". ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 14:44, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- Months ago, I converted many of these to PNG , uploaded as a new file and deleted the old file. Where I see that the original would be better to work with, I am going to restore the old and move it over the new so the original version can be retrieved. It is much easier now that we can just rename file. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 14:47, 1 December 2009 (UTC)
- I am going to start working though Scout logos not using the logo fur template. I am going to convert the JPGs to PNG, so you do not need to tag them. - I had to force a reload on those last two images to make the PNG version show properly. If you click on them, the SVG will show and you can refresh those readily, but sometimes the PNG takes a bit. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 01:04, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- I would say no, I do not know why Egel replaced a larger one with a smaller grainy one. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 14:52, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

Arabic script
Unfortunately, no I don't know of anyone off-hand who can give Arabic transliteration/translation and I don't know enough of the language to be of any assistance. If someone comes to mind, I'll let you know. Otherwise, you can always put {{Arabic}} on the talk. —Justin (koavf)❤T☮C☺M☯ 22:31, 4 December 2009 (UTC)
The Texas - China Comparison
The statement I made was a general one. The particular edit I made, Texas was identified as the largest state in the United States by area, with larger and bolder font to stand out. Texas, as you know is not the largest state. It is the second largest state and is quite smaller than the actual largest state - Alaska. Texans are fairly self -conscious and defiant about this fact because it is one of the things that makes Texas, Texas (being very large).
Their identity is wrapped up in being the best at X (whatever we define as X). It's not the largest state by population - that would be California. It isn't the fastest growing state, that was Nevada, Arizona, and so forth. It isn't the most business friendly state. The list goes one that Texas is actually second rate or worse in everything that makes it special.
The same goes for China. China is proud of being a very ancient culture - to the point that China fudges the numbers and rewrites history about how humans were actually originally from China and how they invented everything we know today. One account has the Chinese as the first discoverers of the New World, when we know that there is no proof for that assertion and that the Polynesians were the earliest known explorers to reach the New World (that was of course already inhabited by other humans).
Moreover, like Texas, China disputes it's size in comparison to other nations. China claims to be the third largest nation, which is disputable. The U.S. also has an argument for the third largest country in the world. The debate derives from what is included in a nation's area. If you include Taiwan and measure the U.S. in a certain way, then yes China is the third largest nation by area. However, China doesn't own Taiwan in any objective sense - it's claim being about as legitimate as the now defunct province of Outer Mongolia (Mongolia).
The claim for the U.S. as the third largest nation is based upon territories waters, both coastal and the Great Lakes, of which the United States has one of the largest coast lines in the world. China does not. The dispute could be marked as footnote, with neither having a solid claim, but China insists on teaching without a doubt that they are larger and by the transitive property the best - which itself is faulty logic sense that would make Canada and Russia even better.
Texas, like China, has a collective inferiority complex because although they have a lot to be proud of, it doesn't make them the best by any measure. In economics, California/India are larger or have more potential than Texas/China. In size, Alaska/Russia are larger than Texas/China. In nation/world standing, Texas was once independent, but with the help of the U.S. and asked to be annexed by the U.S. for protection. China, although it has existed for several years, has been ransacked for centuries and has only come back to prominence on the world stage in the last few decades.
This is what I meant by my Texas/China comment and it is a dynamic that many other states and nations don't take part of because it is childish. You don't have to be the best to be great. Texas and Chin don't collectivity understand that.

Homenmen Beirut
Would you consider Homenmen Beirut within our purview? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 13:14, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Homenmen is, the branch is more the soccer club. But all Armenian Scout associations are that way-because they were in diaspora so soon after Scouting's creation, they had to do all-inclusive Scout-and-sport-and-teach-your-kids-Armenian-all-at-once-away-from-home clubs. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 13:23, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- So that is a no? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 13:49, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- That's a sucking-in-my-breath and tilting-my-head-to-the-side-just-barely. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 14:23, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- I see you tagged the article, so I will tag the image. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 14:27, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- Which image to keep: File:Badge of Homenmen Armenian Scouting.png or File:Homenmen Beirut.png? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 21:48, 7 December 2009 (UTC)
- You marked these as redundant— which are we keeping? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 13:33, 8 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I'm unclear on your cleanup tag ("redraw rope.") for the image, as it's a photo and the rope – assuming you mean the blue/green border around the badge – wasn't modified when the background was removed. — Bility (talk) 19:57, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
- You did a wonderful job, and thank you for finishing the batch! Tuvalu's problem wasn't something you did, the patch was made lopsided, hence the request. Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 02:10, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

- What do think of File:Bronze Wolf Award.png? ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 01:33, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- That's actually really good, but, because of detail, can you make this the full 300, and is there any way you can tweak the dangle so the wolf is walking straight instead of at an angle? If you can pull that off, that would be the ideal image! :) Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 01:44, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- Other than what we already have, I can only find http://www5.airnet.ne.jp/bsy87/Y87/08_BRZ/Y87_2008_brz_01.html and http://www.pattayamail.com/674/features.shtml. The first is even smaller, the second is the source I used— after cropping it, it is the original size. I don't have the skill to straighten it without pushing it up into the ribbon. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 02:11, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds like one for either the Graphics Lab or one of our graphic friends. Which appeals to you? Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 07:44, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
- It's been straighted, but the wolf needs to be bright bronze, can you go back and snag it from the original photo at File:Bronze Wolf Award photo.jpg? Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 05:04, 22 December 2009 (UTC)
House Rules
Hi there, I am rather fond of your House Rules box. :) I wondered if you would mind if I stole it off you and personalised it for my own talk page? Thanks, -m-i-k-e-y-Talk / C 17:03, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
I see that you have reverted some unconstructive changes to this article. I recently took a sabbatical from Wikipedia and I missed this vandalism. I just wanted to thank you, as I have put a lot of effort into referencing material properly to ensure a truthful and verifiable NPOV. The fact that someone has decided to blank an entire section tells me we must be doing a good job at a point of view that is balanced, verifiable, and also reflects viewpoints other than the party line of the CPC. Thank you for helping. Dragonnas (talk) 11:52, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
