Please carry out a proper review before moving articles out of draft. This one has basic grammatical errors as well as several unreferenced paragraphs. Thanks. Deb (talk) 07:31, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ANI or AE?

[edit]

Hello, I'm asking your advice on the dispute with Volunteer Marek. Please note that while I'm not a newcomer, I'm relatively inexperienced about conflict resolution on en.wiki.
Recently I had this conversation with User:Boud. The topic is withdrawing my ANI complaint and opening an AE request. At ANI you invited us to find a compromise. While I think that that is both desirable and possible with regard to the contents of the article on war crimes, I doubt we can compromise on civility. But the point is: as a relatively inexperienced editor, I might have misunderstood the standards of civility and tendentiousness that this community deems acceptable. If that is the case, I'd rather stop it here, don't waste my and other people's time, and possibly move to less controversial topic areas leaving the floor to others who have the stomach for this. If, on the other side, I haven't made a blatant mistake on civility and tendentiousness, and Volunteer Marek's behaviours are contrary to our guidelines and policies, or at least they are in a "grey area" where reasonable people could disagree on their appropriateness, then I'd be happy to bring the case to AE.
I'm not particularly keen on writing another complaint and I'm aware that this could easily backfire, but it might be worth it: exposing the way they behave and asking AE to uphold our policies might be the right thing to do, as I think that their contribution is quite harmful in that topic area. If in the process I get topic banned or blocked, that would be unpleasant, but not too hard to deal with: I have other projects and interests.
So the question for you is: AE or not AE? Your advice is very much appreciated. Gitz (talk) (contribs) 00:40, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Well, I might be too thick-skinned myself but I would have let the issue die if I were in your shoes. Find a compromise on the article and forget about some impolite discussion in between. I know User:Volunteer Marek for many years, occasionally the contacts were frustrating but overall he is a good guy. Anyway it is your choice. We have a policy WP:FORUMSHOP that discourages going with someone's grievances to another forum if the decision of the first one is unsatisfactory. We have a dozen of different forums with intersecting authority and if somebody would go to all of them he or she would eventually get their foe block. I do not see any quick exit out of it. I guess if WP:AN/I decision would not help the problem in a week you can try another forum WP:AE. On the other hand discouragement is not forbidding I guess you can drop a notice to WP:AE maybe with a link to WP:AN/I and ask if they think the issue is covered by WP:ARBEE - the arcom decision that sets simplified blocking policy for the tendentious editing in the area of Eastern European and Balkan issues. This is your choice Alex Bakharev (talk) 03:32, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the explanation and advice. I thought about it and decided to follow your suggestion: I will not pursue the matter further. In fact, I agree that WP:FORUMSHOP clearly applies to a case as this one. Out of inexperience I might have made a wrong decision about the best venue for addressing my quarrel, but VM cannot be burden with my procedural mistakes, and that would also be unfair to the editors who commented at AN/I. I should have followed Boud's advise immediately and asked to transfer the case at AE. However, I think that that mistake of mine will not prevent me from opening an AE request in case of future behaviours by VM that I deem disruptive or uncivil. If and when I will raise a case at AE, I will share a link to the discussion at AN/I, and I will hope that that doesn't fall under WP:FORMUSHOP. Thank you again for your time and consideration. Algeria New Article

[edit]

Hi @Alex Bakharev

I would like to create a page that shows recent articles created under the portal of Algeria. I have already found this page, User:AlexNewArtBot/AlgeriaSearchResult, but it does not work. Do you know how to fix this problem?

Thank you very much. Riad Salih (talk) 01:05, 28 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Information icon Established policy provides for removal of the administrative permissions of users who have not made any edits or logged actions in the preceding twelve months. Because you have been inactive, your administrative permissions will be removed if you do not return to activity within the next month.

Inactive administrators are encouraged to rejoin the project in earnest rather than to make token edits to avoid loss of administrative permissions. Resources and support for reengaging with the project are available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Editor Retention/administrators. If you do not intend to rejoin the project in the foreseeable future, please consider voluntarily resigning your administrative permissions by making a request at the bureaucrats' noticeboard.

Notice

The file File:Mirsky Book Cover.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Improper use of non-free content. The image is used only on an article about the subject of the book, not the book itself, and there is no "critical commentary of the work" to speak of.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
