[edit]I'm a bit confused by your unblock note on Andy, since I had nothing to do with his original block. --SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:25, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

Request advice re: becoming a mediator
[edit]I'm thinking, in the long run, about trying to become a mediator - it sounds both interesting and like something I'd be good at doing. I recognize I'm probably not yet where I need to be in order to be accepted. So would you mind giving me a few pointers as to what kind of experience I'm most lacking and where I should start in remedying that? Thanks! - Jorgath (talk) (contribs) 21:15, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Sure! The easiest way to get involved in Wikipedia dispute resolution is to work the dispute resolution noticeboard or perhaps wikiquette assistance. I personally prefer the DRN. I would suggest that you first read through some archives to get a handle on how things usually go, then step in on one or two cases. If you feel comfortable mediating in more low-key situations like that, then do what I did and join the Mediation Cabal. It's often a first option for a dispute, and it's a good place to dip in a little deeper. Plus they have some helpful training materials. I don't believe MedCab is particularly busy right now - MedCom certainly isn't - but activity there, like any other area, waxes and wanes. I would also recommend reading through nomination and case archives for MedCom, to see what is asked of mediators. If you want more detail or some guiding (I'd certainly be willing to co-mediate a case with you, if that would help) please do let me know! Keilana|Parlez ici 22:06, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'll start with DRN, and I'll be in touch. I think I'd like to co-mediate eventually, but I'd like to get more experience first. - Jorgath (talk) (contribs) 23:05, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- That sounds great, let me know if you want a review of something or some advice for DRN. Good luck! Keilana|Parlez ici 23:07, 27 June 2012 (UTC)
- Just to update you, I've been doing extensive reading of the DRN archives and active cases lately. Real-life stuff is hectic for about another week, so I'm refraining from joining in until I'm more certain that I won't be going on any mid-case wikibreaks. - Jorgath (talk) (contribs) 23:50, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- That sounds like an excellent plan. Do you feel like you're getting the hang of how good mediators handle DRN things? I'd love it if you linked me to the first report you handle, just to see how you're doing. No pressure, simply curiosity and a desire to help.Ā :) Keilana|Parlez ici 03:55, 2 July 2012 (UTC)

Hi Keilana,
[edit]I was wondering if my comment was easy to understand, and as I have not seen you about very much, and you seem quite nice, I thought to ask you, about this comment "I'll just suggest that combining an unblock request for the two editors will be every bit as satisfying to the community, and editors involved, as the combined discussion of their original block."
does it convey I am suggesting that the community was unhappy with the original confusion at ANIĀ ? Penyulap ā 22:57, 27 Jun 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Penyulap! I'm flattered - you also seem quite nice! I think your comment is fairly clear in that you think the community would be equally satisfied with a combined discussion of an unblock as a block, but it doesn't come across whether or not you think the original discussion of the block would be satisfying. Does that make sense? Not a criticism on you at all, just something to think about when you word things.Ā :) Keilana|Parlez ici 23:02, 27 June 2012 (UTC)

This is how you convert to {{sfn}}. A next step would be to consider how many of those page ranges really are the correct pages; many could likely be narrowed to more specific pages and {sfn} lets you just fiddle as the sources dictate without having to concern yourself with naming and collating at all. I see some other things needful, so I'm going right back in there. Pleased to meet you. Welcome to Wikipedia; I see you've only been here five yearsĀ ;) Br'er Rabbit (talk) 04:23, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hi! It's lovely to make your acquaintance. I do suppose Malleus warned me about your {{sfn}} proselytizing... Thank you so very much for your help! I don't know if I have all of the books still - I'm using most of them for Auriga (constellation) and Bootes (constellation) so I should be able to get more accurate pages at some point. Welcome to you too, for a newbie you seem to know your way around!Ā ;) Keilana|Parlez ici 04:32, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- See the bottom of my user page: 7 years, 8 months and 5 days. Not my first accountĀ ;)
- Adjusting the page ranges is optional, of course, but the option is there, and easy, now. See {{plainlist}}, which I'm thinking is next. It's about proper list structure, mostly in infoboxes. The other main thing I see as needful is de-cluttering the prose of full citation details. That stuff belongs at the bottom with inline references to it. It makes the prose much easier to edit in the editbox and the references much easier to maintain in their own section. See WP:LDR for that technique. Those other constellations would be current work? I've not yet looked at any of them. These should all be among our best articles; they're some of our oldest stories. Ā Br'erRabbitĀ 04:45, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

- Ooh, okay, I'll take a look at both the script and LDR when I start writing tomorrow morning. I took a quick gander at LDR and I may need some help; wikicode is not my forte. Thanks so much! You're awesome. And yes, I'm on a crazy mission to feature all the constellation articles. 2 down, 86 to go!Ā :) Keilana|Parlez ici 04:58, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- I already dropped the named refs into LDR format; the ones still inline need names to be dropped. I often view LDR as an interim step, a way to bunch the cite details so that they can be worked on as a group. They can then be migrated further to using all {sfn} (example). That's more work and usually isn't appropriate if the bulk of the sources used are not print works such as books and journals. You've got a lot of online stuff here, so LDR is probably the the way to go with them. See Pedro II of Brazil for a pure {sfn} example; almost 600 of them in there. And see SMS Schleswig-Holstein, which I did just before the talk with Mally came up. It's a good example of {{efn}}, too. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 05:28, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- messy is mere opinion, although I don't use {harv} much. It is useful for citations within sentences in explanatory footnotes; {sfn} in main prose, and {harvnb} at the beginning or end of an {efn}, with some {harvnb} in more complex in-prose cites (often dropped to LDR). Br'er Rabbit (talk) 20:17, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
BR, thanks so much for the help on Andromeda, Aries, and Auriga! I'll be sure to implement modern refs on Boƶtes too; will convert after I've finished the meteor shower section. Keilana|Parlez ici 16:45, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I see you've begun on Boƶtes and quickly learned that {sfn} generates the ref tags and squeals rather loudly when wrapped with them explicitly. On the one at GAN, I didn't want to guess about the year fixes and the "star tales" one. All will get sorted in time. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 20:17, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- Hehe it made really large angry red text. When that's the most exciting thing to happen to you that day... I'll dig out my sources and take a look at Auriga. And that's a good motto! Keilana|Parlez ici 20:21, 6 July 2012 (UTC)
- It's on my user page, sometimesĀ ;) Br'er Rabbit (talk) 20:39, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Main page appearance: Andromeda (constellation)
[edit]This is a note to let the main editors of Andromeda (constellation) know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on July 12, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 12, 2012. If you prefer that the article appear as TFA on a different date, or not at all, please ask featured article director Raul654Ā (talkĀ Ā· contribs) or his delegate Dabomb87Ā (talkĀ Ā· contribs), or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Today's featured article/requests. If the previous blurb needs tweaking, you might change itāfollowing the instructions at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions. If this article needs any attention or maintenance, it would be preferable if that could be done before its appearance on the Main Page. The blurb as it stands now is below:
Andromeda is one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd-century astronomer Ptolemy, and remains one of the 88 modern constellations. Located north of the celestial equator, it is named for the princess in the Greek legend, who was chained to a rock to be eaten by the sea monster Cetus. Its brightest star, Alpha Andromedae, is a binary star, as is bright Gamma Andromedae, a colorful binary and a popular target for amateur astronomers. The constellation's most obvious deep-sky object is the naked-eye Andromeda Galaxy (M31, also called the Great Galaxy of Andromeda), the closest galaxy to the Milky Way and one of the brightest Messier objects. In Chinese astronomy, the stars that make up Andromeda were members of four different constellations that had astrological and mythological significance; a constellation related to Andromeda also exists in Hindu mythology. Andromeda is the location of the radiant for the Andromedids, a weak meteor shower that occurs in November. (more...)

Congrats. I shifted the SINBAD refs to {{sfnRef}} form and would do the others except for the fact that the page is going to soon be too busy for that sort of thing. I believe having all the full cites dropped below the actual footnotes makes thing much clearer. I gets them away from the [a] [b] stuff and by having them all aligned to the same left edge makes them more easily read. See Murray Chotiner for an example of where this would go when done for all.

Bivalvia
[edit]I don't know whether you saw, but Bivalvia was granted FA status a couple of days ago. The problems I had at FA mostly revolved about the formatting of the references rather than the prose. It was difficult but I learnt a lot we got there in the end.

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages
[edit]Dear Author/Keilana
My name is NuÅ”a FariÄ and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at the University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Staphylococcal infections. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article and or other health-related articles. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please reply via my talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hydra Rain (talk) 19:01, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
Congratulations. Now cut out the *happy dance*.
You should install a helper script:
- importScript('User:Ucucha/HarvErrors.js');
- User:Ucucha/HarvErrors
it should go here:
It helps diagnose syntax issues with the various harv/sfn citation templates.
Please do this now and see a whole bunch of issues that got by Auriga (constellation)'s GA review. These things have been getting by FA reviews, too. Much of the point of the harv/sfn suite of templates is to link the footnotes to the actual sources. But things can go wrong, and have in this case. The Staal work is omitted from the sources. Readers looking to verify those bits will not get more than "Staal 1988". And one of Levy footnotes says 2005, while the other say 2008. It could be a typo, or another work, or another Levy...
I'll make you a deal; install the script, and I'll help with the articleĀ ;) Br'er Rabbit (talk) 03:49, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- ;)
- don't include the "* ", just "importScript('User:Ucucha/HarvErrors.js');"
- Br'er Rabbit (talk) 04:14, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- and then 'refresh' your browser; view menu if you're using something normal. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 04:16, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- I just installed it and I'm fixing the issues you mentioned. Thanks so much! It's nice to have a fellow-traveler in the stars. Keilana|Parlez ici 04:22, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Good; now that was helpful, ya? Br'er Rabbit (talk) 04:44, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, the BRIGHT RED TEXT was a great reminder of how much of a dumbass I can be with references! It's definitely not my forte...I would like to think I'm much better at the research bit! Keilana|Parlez ici 04:46, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- The syntax is a bit picky. The script is a tool to save time. Note that I just got another user to install it; do read that, as it explains "false positives". And Mally just got aboard (I think he saw this thread;). Stay off Auriga for a bit; I'll do Sinbad. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 04:56, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- I did, but I haven't tried the script out yet. Malleus Fatuorum 05:04, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- This isn't a script you 'use'. It just bitches about problems it sees on any page you visit. The rest is up to you. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 05:12, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
Woo, I've done everything I know how to do reference wise with Auriga. Could you maybe walk me through dealing with non-book sources in sfn/harv format? Then I can be slightly less in need of lots of help. :P Keilana|Parlez ici 05:00, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- With non-book sources you don't use the sfn/harv stuff. I'm sure Br'er Rabbit will see you right though. Malleus Fatuorum 05:07, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- But you can! It's useful to separate the footnote from the sources for clarity and consistency. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 05:12, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- There are many things I can do, but some I won't do, no matter how much you twist my arms.Ā ;-) Malleus Fatuorum 05:25, 17 July 2012 (UTC)
- You don't have to, of course. However grouping the sources in one block makes a lot of sense. Using sfn for even the non-paginated items keeps the syntax in the prose short, simple, and consistent. I also like having the [a][b][c] apart for the actual sources as all that indenting make them hard to read. The [a] and such are part of the footnoting and are about finding where in the source the note is used, and the note itself is about abbreviating the full source. See Murray Chotiner for an example of mixed sources all going via sfn. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 06:02, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

- That's mostly about
|ref=
{{sfnRef}}
which lets you set the footnote text directly. See how the Sinbad refs are done in Aries, for example. Br'er Rabbit (talk) 05:12, 17 July 2012 (UTC)- Ooh, okay, that sorta makes sense. Can you drop me a note when you're done with Auriga so I can implement this new shiny method? Thank you again! Keilana|Parlez ici 05:18, 17 July 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to the Wikipedia Ambassador Program
[edit]Hi Keilana!
Congratulations! Your application to join the Wikipedia Education Program as an Online Ambassador has been accepted. We are honoured to welcome you the Ambassador team!
The information below is provided to ensure that your new role as an Online Ambassador is a successful one. There are tasks listed, as well as reading material. Please make sure to complete the actions presented below, as quickly as possible.
The Wikipedia Education Program is a relatively new program that is continuing to experience change and transition. Our goal is to be better than we were yesterday. For this reason, please remember to check the information and talk pages of the United States Education Program and the Wikipedia Ambassador Program often. If you have any questions, please contact myself or one of your fellow Ambassadors.
- Please complete the following, as soon as possible
- Add your username to the official list of Online Ambassadors;
- Add a profile for yourself here; and
- Read and review the Wikipedia Ambassadors Principles;
- Read the United States Education Program's Memorandum of Understanding (provides list of current courses); and
- Select one (or more) of the courses from the MOU and add your name to their Online Ambassador slot.
- Sign up for the Wikipedia Ambassador Program announcements email list.
Support Structure
[edit]Online Ambassadors serve as a vital link in the Wikipedia Education Program, assisting new student editors transition into the Wikipedia editing community. They serve in a leadership role alongside the course instructor; local Campus Ambassador(s), who work with the class in person; and the Regional Ambassador, who checks in periodically with the pod to make sure everything is going well. Together, the instructor, Campus Ambassador, Regional Ambassador, and Online Ambassador encompass the course "pod".
The pod is the term we use to refer to the group of individuals that work together to help the students in a particular course successfully contribute to Wikipedia. A prototypical pod might look something like this:
- A professor or course instructor who is fairly new to Wikipedia, leading a class of 20ā30 students, who have been assigned to make significant contributions to new or existing articles related to the course subject.
- Two Campus Ambassadors, one of whom is an experienced Wikipedian and one of whom is new to the encyclopedia. The Campus Ambassadors are provided with training to learn the basic policies and guidelines of Wikipedia and how to help students contribute effectively.
- Two Online Ambassadors, one of whom is a moderately experienced Wikipedian, while the other is very experienced. Both have knowledge of community policies and guidelines and are available to provide editing guidance, answer questions, and assistance navigating the community. When needed, Online Ambassadors are also available for one-on-one mentorship.
- One Regional Ambassador, a moderately experienced Wikipedian who coordinates assistance and support for universities and courses based on a large geographical region.
Role and Responsibilities
[edit]The list of the responsibilities of the Online Ambassador are presented in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). In essence, the role of the Online Ambassador includes:
- Helping students in your class(es) when they ask for it and answer their questions;
- Serve as a liaison between the professor/student and the community;
- In general, keep an eye out for the students and professors and help them navigate the community;
- Helping students get feedback on their work (whether from you or other editors with an interest in or knowledge of the subject area)
- Be a good example for students, modeling good faith communication and editing practices; and
- Communicating regularly with the other members of your pod regarding the progress of the student, along with any issues that come up.
Online Ambassadors can also assist students that are outside of their pod. Generally, Online Ambassadors represent the Ambassador Program and provide assistance for students whenever encountered. While feedback on the style and formatting of student articles is essential, assistance may also be needed to review the articles substance and content. When needed, the Online Ambassador may request the assistance of WikiProjects that focus on technical issues presented in student articles.
Communication Channels
[edit]There are four main places for news, updates, and discussion about Wikipedia Ambassadors and the Wikipedia Education Program:
- Wikipedia talk:Ambassadors
- Wikipedia talk:United States Education Program
- The Wikipedia Ambassador Program announcements list. This is a low-traffic email list that is used for significant announcements that are relevant to the whole program. Please sign up as soon as you get a chance.
- Internet Relay Chat (IRC). If you use IRC, please consider adding #wikipedia-en-ambassadors and #wikipedia-en-classroom to your channel lineup. The latter is the main help channel for the program, where students and instructors seek live help.
Future communication tools are being developed. Newsletters about the program or messages for Online Ambassadors may occasionally be delivered to your talk page. If you have any questions, please let me know.
Again, welcome to the Ambassador team! We look forward to working with you!

[edit]Indefinite block was really necessary? I mean even i am suspected as sock, i had never broke any rules, nor used multiple accounts or ips together for any kind of problematic content or edit war. While reviewing some 'flagged as abuse' posts on Special:ArticleFeedbackv5, I noticed your feedback on the Otter article. Apparently, the software has designated your post as abusiveĀ :-). Naughty Kei! AGK [ā¢] 12:16, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

- (talk page stalker) No, it's the abuse filter's fault. I've seen about 25 false positives in the past couple of days. It flags perfectly normal posts as "multiple obscenities". I help out at WP: EF/FP and nobody has filed a report yet about it. I should probably bring it up with IronHolds at the next IRC Meeting. Best, Electric Catfish 18:42, 29 July 2012 (UTC).

Main page appearance: Aries (constellation)
[edit]This is a note to let the main editors of Aries (constellation) know that the article will be appearing as today's featured article on July 30, 2012. You can view the TFA blurb at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/July 30, 2012.
Aries is one of the constellations of the zodiac, located between Pisces to the west and Taurus to the east. Its name is Latin for ram, and its symbol is (Unicode ā), representing a ram's horns. One of the 48 constellations described by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy, Aries remains one of the 88 modern constellations today. A mid-sized constellation, it is ranked 39th overall with an area of 441 square degrees (1.1% of the celestial sphere). Though it specifically came to represent the ram whose fleece became the Golden Fleece in Ancient Greece, it had represented a ram since late Babylonian times. Before that, the stars of Aries formed a farmhand. Because Aries is zodiacal, its stars were incorporated into different constellations in different cultures, including twin inspectors in China and a porpoise in the Marshall Islands. Aries is a relatively dim constellation, possessing only three bright stars: Hamal (Alpha Arietis, second magnitude), Sheratan (Beta Arietis, third magnitude), and Mesartim (Gamma Arietis, fourth magnitude). The few deep-sky objects are quite faint and include several pairs of interacting galaxies. Several meteor showers radiate from Aries, including the Daytime Arietids and the Epsilon Arietids. Welcome to the Teahouse!
[edit]Hi Keilana! Thank you for signing up to be a future host at the Teahouse. Well, great news - the future is here: we'd love you to be a Teahouse host! Teahouse hosts do more than just answer questions. A few things we'd love to see you do as a Teahouse host:
- First, declare your Hostness! Add yourself to the Host page! This page is where new editors and your fellow hosts can learn about you and get in touch with you easily if needed. By signing up here you declare that you know how to serve up a great cup of tea. Add yourself here.
- Invite new users with our invite guide. Please invite new users to the Teahouse! At that guide you'll find some tips on how to invite. It's super important; we have plenty of Wikipedians answering questions, but not enough asking the questions!
- Visit the tips page. The tips page provides you some basic tips on how to engage with visitors at the Teahouse. We have a special way of doing things - unlike other areas of Wikipedia! (Such as greeting new editors with a simple "Hi!" and being as easy to understand and friendly as possible.)
- Join the conversation by participating on the host lounge talk pages. We also have an IRC channel now for hosts to get to know one another, develop your skills, and eventually the channel will serve as an additional help space for new editors!
- To visit the IRC channel: #wikipedia-teahouse connect (Feel free to ask me for help if you're having trouble connecting!)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Five
[edit]Hi! Welcome to the fifth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!
- Guest activity increased in July. Questions are up from an average of 36 per week in June to 43 per week in July, and guest profile creation has also increased. This is likely a result of the automatic invite experiments we started near the end of month, which seeks to lessen the burden on hosts and other volunteer who manually invite editors. During the last week of July, questions doubled in the Teahouse! (But don't let that deter you from inviting editors to the Teahouse, please, there are still lots of new editors who haven't found Teahouse yet.)
- More Teahouse hosts than ever. We had 12 new hosts sign up to participate at the Teahouse! We now have 35 hosts volunteering at the Teahouse. Feel free to stop by and see them all here.
- Phase two update: Host sprint. In August, the Teahouse team plans to improve the host experience by developing a simpler new-host creation process, a better way of surfacing active hosts, and a host lounge renovation. Take a look at the plan and weigh in here.
- New Teahouse guest barnstar is awarded to first recipient: Charlie Inks. Using the Teahouse barnstar designed by Heatherawalls, hosts hajatvrc and Ryan Vesey created the new Teahouse Guest Barnstar. The first recipient is Charlie Inks, for her boldness in asking questions at the Teahouse. Check out the award in action here.
- Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania! The Teahouse was a hot topic at Wikimania this past month, where editor retention and interface design was heavily discussed. Sarah and Jonathan presented the Teahouse during the Wikimedia Fellowships panel. Slides can be viewed here. A lunch was also held at Wikimania for Teahouse hosts.
As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

[edit]I have been working for some time on the article Frog and have just requested a peer review here. I don't know how busy you are but if you felt like reviewing it I would be very grateful because you were so helpful over the Bivalvia article. - Not really, just sign up for some courses in September. It sounds like there is a new course page setup, we'll have to see how that works. Myself or someone from the foundation will be alerting the OAs when the course pages are up. You could watchlist: Wikipedia:Education noticeboard, might also be useful to look at the archives for issues and problems that have come up related to student editing in the past. You could also read this for inspiration: Wikipedia in the classroom Tina Loo, an essay by a prof I worked with last spring who put together a great syllabus and got her kids really participating in Wikipedia (good content too). These course projects can work out badly or very well; I think OAs can play an important part in making them go smoothly. Thanks again for signing up. Invitation to be an Online Ambassador for Fall 2012
[edit]Hi, I'm an instructor for Brain and Behavior at Roosevelt University in Chicago, and my students will be editing existing Wikipedia articles as part of a class project this Fall. I and my students are newbies. I've completed the training at USEP. I'm wondering if you might be one of our class's online ambassadors? I've constructed most of my course page at Brain and Behavior articles. I anticipate that we'll need your help with questions about editing and making sure that we're all complying with Wikipedia guidelines. It would also be great if you could read some of the students' articles and provide feedback. Please let me know if you're able to help out. Thanks! Neuropsychprof (talk) 01:41, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks for agreeing to be an OA for my course! I have 2 questions off the bat. 1) I've identified some articles that need improvement and listed them as potential sites for my course. Do you mind taking a look at them (link above)? Do you know of similar articles that might be added to this list? 2) In creating my course project page, I accidentally created this one: Course to be deleted. How do I delete it? Thanks! Neuropsychprof (talk) 15:27, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Roosevelt University's PSYC 336 Brain and Behavior course
[edit]Hi Keilana, students have posted their first edits of articles for this course. When you have a chance, could you please review the articles that students are working on? Some articles are in better shape than others. Students have until 11/13 to improve their article and address reviewer feedback. Any recommendation you have regarding content, breadth, depth, style, etc. will be sincerely appreciated! Neuropsychprof (talk) 13:35, 24 October 2012 (UTC)
My new project - WWC
[edit]Hi Kei! I hope all is well. I wanted to stop by to share a new project with you that I am developing, called the WikiWomen's Collaborative. I would love your input about the project.
- You can find the project page here.
- On the talk page, you'll find a number of questions I'm seeking input on. I'm especially seeking thoughts about hosting the space off of Wikipedia (in the WordPress section). I hope you will join in on the conversation.
- Finally, this project will be developed with volunteers from around the world who want to engage and support bringing new women to Wikipedia. If you think you'd like to be involved in some capacity, that'd be awesome. We're still working on developing roles, but, you can learn more about volunteer opportunities here.
Thank you for the consideration and I hope you'll participate in developing this exciting new project to bring more women to Wikipedia! SarahStierch (talk) 22:58, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
My RfA
[edit]Sorry, I know this is pretty belated, but I just wanted to say thank you for participating in my RfA. I appreciate the advice you gave me, and especially that you'd go out of your way to offer me assistance towards the prospect of eventually passing a subsequent RfA. I'll be sure to remember it if ever I'm stuck on something down the road.Ā ;)
On that related note, I've taken up content creation, AfD participation, occasional clerking at ANI, and dispute resolution (albeit to a lesser extent). There is quite a broad variety of things to take part in on Wikipedia, but I've been relatively inactive for so long that I'd forgotten just how fun editing could be. =)
Take care. Kurtis (talk) 14:09, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Kurtis, I'm really sorry that I couldn't support. But please do ask me if you need help - I'm pretty sure when your next RfA goes live I'll be strongly in the support column! Good luck.Ā :) Keilana|Parlez ici 16:36, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Keilana! I've recently discovered that you are an ambassador for the Neuropsych wikiproject for our course at Roosevelt University. I just wanted to introduce myself, and warn you that I am very new to Wikipedia editing. Actually, Wikipedia in general. Well, my name is Lyzzi. I look forward to working with you this semester.--Epottala (talk) 03:56, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

My name is Justine and I might be coming to you alot because although I use wikipedia all the time I have never tried to edit or contribute to the articles. Actually after the creation of my username it all became a bit confusing but I'll get the hang of it. ā Preceding unsigned comment added by Justine28 (talk ā¢ contribs) 17:46, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

The Tea Leaf - Issue Six
[edit]Hi! Welcome to the sixth edition of The Tea Leaf, the official newsletter of the Teahouse!
- Teahouse serves over 700 new editors in six months on Wikipedia! Since February 27, 741 new editors have participated at the Teahouse. The Q&A board and the guest intro pages are more active than ever.
- Automatic invites are doing the trick: 50% more new editors visiting each week. Ever since HostBot's automated invite trial phase began we've seen a boost in new editor participation. Automating a baseline set of invitations also allows Teahouse hosts to focus on serving hot cups of help to guests, instead of spending countless hours inviting.
- Guests to the Teahouse continue to edit more & interact more with other community members than non-Teahouse guests according to six month metrics. Teahouse guests make more than twice the article edits and edit more talk pages than other new editors.
- New host process implemented which encourages anyone to get started as a Teahouse host in a few easy steps. Stop by the hosts page and become a Teahouse host today!
- Host lounge renovations nearing completion. Working closely with Teahouse hosts, we've made some major renovations to the Teahouse Host Lounge - the main hangout and resource space for hosts. Learn more about the improvements here.
As always, thanks for supporting the Teahouse project! Stop by and visit us today!

Spaghetti Nebula
[edit]Noticed you have Taurus up at FAC, so I thought to suggest a possibility rather than adding a new paragraph. This photo of the Spaghetti Nebula, which is found between the bull's horns in Taurus, was recently uploaded at Commons and in fact just won an award from the Royal Observatory. I think the photo could be a nice addition to your article as it is not mentioned anywhere. If you'd like me to do it, just let me know.--Sadalsuud (talk) 18:19, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Hey Sadalsuud, I actually don't have it at FAC, though I think it'd be a great candidate soon. I would love a mention of the Spaghetti Nebula and will try to get to it tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up!Ā :) By the way, I'm so impressed with what you and Cas have been able to accomplish on Betelgeuse. Nice work! Keilana|Parlez ici 23:20, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. It's been quite the learning curve. It's great working with everyone here.--Sadalsuud (talk) 01:41, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Until late 2003, Jimmy Wales was the arbiter in all major disputes. After the Mediation Committee and the Arbitration Committee were founded, Wales delegated his roles of dispute resolution to these bodies. In addition to these committees, the community has developed a number of informal processes of dispute resolution. At its peak, over 17 dispute resolution venues existed. Disputes were submitted in each venue in a different way. Due to the complexity of Wikipedia dispute resolution, members of the community were surveyed in April 2012 about their experiences with dispute resolution. In general, the community believes that dispute resolution is too hard to use and is divided among too many venues. Many respondents also reported their experience with dispute resolution had suffered due to a shortage of volunteers and backlogging, which may be due to the disparate nature of the process. An evaluation of dispute resolution forums was made in May this year, in which data on response and resolution time, as well as success rates, was collated. This data is here.
Leading off from the survey in April and the evaluation in May, several changes to dispute resolution noticeboard (DRN) were proposed. Rather than using a wikitext template to bring disputes to DRN, editors used a new javascript form. This form was simpler to use, but also standardised the format of submissions and applied a word limit so that DRN volunteers could more easily review disputes. A template to summarise, and a robot to maintain the noticeboard, were also created. As a result of these changes, volunteers responded to disputes in a third of the time, and resolved them 60% faster when compared to May. Successful resolution of disputes increased by 17%. Submissions were 25% shorter by word count.(see Dispute Resolution Noticeboard Statistics - August compared to May) Outside of DRN other simplification has taken place. The Mediation Cabal was closed in August, and Wikiquette assistance was closed in September. Nevertheless, around fifteen different forums still exist for the resolution of Wikipedia disputes.
Given the success of the past efforts at DR reform, the current RFC proposes we implement: 1) A submission gadget for every DR venue tailored to the unique needs of that forum.
2) A universal dispute resolution wizard, accessible from Wikipedia:Dispute resolution.
3) Additionally, we're seeking any ideas on how we can attract and retain more dispute resolution volunteers. |
Please share your thoughts at the RfC.
