Cyclone Winston

Thanks Jim,I moved the page as the Cyclone reached Severe Cat 5 status on both the Australian and Saffir-Simpson scales so the article should be listed under this name regardless of whether the Cyclone is currently below Cat 3 i felt. If this is not the correct process i understand. In future i will move any page so the edit history is carried across also. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shauno10 (talkcontribs) 09:38, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

no worries Jim, just saw your message, i will leave it as is under Cyclone Winston — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shauno10 (talkcontribs) 09:55, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

I added an external link on the pages for A for Andromeda and on the page The Andromeda Breakthrough but these have been removed. These were two links to articles I have written about the series. I think they were valid links and no different from the other external links which are presnent on these pages. I would like them reinstated.

A for Andomeda/ The Andromeda Breakthrough

Dear Jim

Thanks for replying so promptly. I have looked at the section you cited and I do not consider that my blog contravenes it in any way. It is not set up to promote any personal project, but to share knowledge of science fiction series and books which I am interested in and have some knowledge of. It is certainly not set up for self-promotion or for personal gain, unlike the link to Action TV on A for Andromeda which seems to be a commercial trader - Star Trader. I believe the posts on my blog will add to these pages on Wikipedia and not detract.

Therefore I would like the links reinstated. If you cannot agree to this, please tell howIi can appeal against this removal.

kind regards

Michael

Cyclone Winston

Are you able to delete the Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston page which is redirecting to Cyclone Winston? as i am unable to move the page due a page already existing under Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.

@Shauno10: No, there is no need to do this move. It is Wikipedia's convention to use simply "Cyclone" as the prefix for southern hemisphere systems (other than the rare South Atlantic tropical cyclone, which can be called either a tropical storm or hurricane). And in any case, please refrain from cut-and-paste moves (see Wikipedia:Moving a page); start a discussion at Talk:Cyclone Winston if you want it moved.--Jasper Deng (talk) 17:30, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Celeste Buckingham

Jim,

there is no conflict of interest. I give you an example. because the title of the books are the same, the writer assumes that the book is written based on the other and writes a few lines on it. Also, he has given false information about the life history of the Buckinghams. a good encyclopedia should have the correct data. i don't know who the person is who has written these things and where he got the information, but most of the information come from hear-say. he is quoting trashy magazines. those cannot possibly be good sources of information for a solid encyclopedia. We sincerely want to clean up the mess. Even the sentences are badly formulated and hard to understand. there is also a warning on the page with three error messages about the page being problematic. I understand cyber ethic. Believe me, I am not a vandalizer, I am trying to clean up this page. it has become very trashy because someone seemed to have been either bored or over zealous to write but the information is not only incorrect but false, badly written and misleading. I am sure you and I have the same goal, to have a more reliable and useful source. In fact, the page as it is, is vandalized and I sincerely hope that we can clean it up.

appreciate your cooperation. thank you,SilviaNikoletti (talk) 10:06, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Modifications to the page for On time Performance

Ok Jim

I have been planning for some time to make a large number of edits and upgrades to wiki pages on topics concerning transport. I have only just started, and things are going well. I still have a lot to learn, but I am hoping I will reach a reasonable level of editing skill soon. I understand at this stage you guys have no reason to trust me, but you should, and I know my stuff. I have written a book on rail transport planning, and my job has me deeply involved with transport, and I know a lot. In some cases I won't be able to find complete citations for what I know to be true, but I will do my best.

As regards the deletion of the stuff I added this morning, it was a work in progress and I will basically need to retype it all. There was nothing wrong with what I had written. I needed to take my wife down to see a property for an auction this morning, and but the time I had gotten back only this afternoon the entire thing had been deleted. That's not a lot of time. Also, adding citations is not a quick process, and it takes days really to do, so if you delete anything added after a couple of hours there won't be anything there at all.

I make the point many of the articles on wikipedia for transport planning are very low quality, full of obvious mistakes and things that are patently absurd. Some are little more than stub articles. If I go through and clean up all these pages it will take time, but it is a worthwhile cause and I'mm happy to contribute. But for now if you could trust me enough to allow me a few days before deleting my additions, especially as referencing is so time consuming.

I acknowledge that people makes crazy changes to wikipedia all the time, and without some control the whole thing would be a mess. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.1.219.58 (talk) 05:11, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Editing

It's ok, I'll do it again. Yea I prefer to retain my privacy for now.

I guess the morale of the story is that there is no such thing as too much referencing.

I'm planning on making quite a few changes, so if I make any mistakes please don't hesitate to tell me (not that I think you'll have a problem with that.) I'm planning on cycling through a whole lot of topics on rail transport, such as headways and tilt trains. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.1.219.58 (talk) 07:40, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Advice re continuing disruptive edits

Hi Jim, yesterday you reverted an edit made to the page Sean Murdoch, recognising that the edit in question was disruptive/vandalism. There is an on-going issue with this page where users are falsifying statistics, and no matter how many times they're undone or the page is given protection, the disruptive edits re-occur. I've attempted to discuss the issue with the most recent user making the edits, however they have not responded and continue to make disruptive edits to the page. This area (after repeated warnings have failed) is not really something I'm familier with, so could I please ask you, what is the best way to proceed with this? Thanks Exxy (talk) 09:54, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

@Exxy: Each time a wp:rfpp is implemented, the protection period is typically increased. I see the last protection was shorter than the previous. I added a rfpp. One can always request full protection. Then changes would need to be done via an admin. If the stats edited are way off as the latest, I would suggest templating IPs as well. Also, please leave an edit summary so admins understand why you reverted. A "rv values way off from source" would be quite descriptive. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 10:14, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Huggle config

Hi Jim, I don't know if you've noticed, or even if it's intentional, but your Huggle isn't issuing the standard edit summaries when warning users on their talk pages (example). Looking at your Huggle 3 config page, it looks as if this started happening when you changed to version 3. There's a clear benefit for these edit summaries to state the warning level issued, both for those manually checking the page histories, and for some automated programs. I think that if you remove the four warn-summary lines from near the bottom of your config page (while HG isn't running), the default project config will take over and reinstate the standard edit summaries. Cheers!  —SMALLJIM  22:55, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Smalljim, No, it was not intentional. I removed the four warn-summary lines from User:Jim1138/huggle3.css and it seems to work now Special:Contributions/Jim1138. I wonder what I clicked on... Much thanks! Jim1138 (talk) 00:37, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
Great – it helps in getting the obdurate vandals blocked all the quicker :) I've found three HG3 users with the same issue, so it may have just been a (rare) config glitch.  —SMALLJIM  11:26, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Hello, I've come to the understanding that an anonymous user has been trying to either pretend to be ONE or force his vision of ONE by either putting his birthday as ONE's or trying to remove ONE's birthday entirely both on the One-Punch Man wikia and on ONE's wikipedia page. I would like to inform you that the October 29, 1986 was correct. This can be proven with twitter messages by people such as Yusuke Murata, the redrawer of One-Punch Man, sent out on the date of ONE's birthday, https://twitter.com/NEBU_KURO/status/659730502165762050, celebrating ONE's birthday. Hopefully, you will put ONE's birthday back onto ONE's wikipedia page. 71.191.90.208 (talk) 02:29, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

A tweet by someone else about One's birthday is not a very good source. See WP:BLPSPS. For instance, the tweet could have been an error, a joke, fishing hoping that One would reply with his real birthday, and likely, a multitude of others. One's birthdate should stay blank unless there an acceptable source. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 07:53, 29 February 2016 (UTC)
But Yusuke Murata isn't the only one to say happy birthday to ONE on October 29. And ONE replied saying thank you, https://twitter.com/ONE_rakugaki/status/659747379990564864 . Here's ONE thanking others for their birthday messages. https://twitter.com/ONE_rakugaki/status/659627373365583872 In addition this is not the only year for ONE thanking people for sending birthday messages on his birthday. https://twitter.com/ONE_rakugaki/status/527422904145674240 (2014) This is a reoccurring trend. Furthermore, one of the users, Opencooper, correcting the anonymous user's trolling attempts stated "[ONE's birthday] is cited in the Japanese Wikipedia".71.191.90.208 (talk) 01:52, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Every time I try to correct the information that I myself posted, either you or someone else deletes my corrections. At this point, I would really appreciate it if you and the others would stop interfering with my efforts to correct my mistakes. This is not a case of vandalism, I am just in the process of correcting my own mistakes and then restructuring the information into a new section in the article which will be less confusing to readers. I expect you to reply and let me know that you will stop interfering with my efforts to correct mistakes I myself posted in the article over the last few days. James Shortt

Hi Jim,

I am trying to correct and remove defamatory information in the biography of James Shortt. He has been a friend of mine since the mid 1980's. I am not sure why ARSSE has such an issue with him. Jim is one of the best martial artists I know. We have trained together on many occasions. I hope you will help me correct the very un-neutral tone on his biography page and stop it from being changed back to the negative tone it has now. I would also like to delete the link to the ARSSE site.

If you have not been to it, you should. I has things like his bank account numbers, etc. All very private information that no one should be publishing. I am not sure how they obtained this information, but it needs to be blocked.

I have a copy of this Resume' with documentation on it if you are interested in correcting the information.

Thank you and I look forward to working with you on this issue.

--71.120.209.106 (talk) 02:40, 1 April 2016 (UTC)

Searching the web brings up a number of articles questioning James Shortt's claims of service and awards. Do you have any wp:reliable sources supporting his claims? It would seem that Shortt could easily clear this up by adding a few more details. Instead he has threatened lawsuits? Seems rather strange to me. Doesn't it seem unusual to you? answer for your inquiries

Dear Jim

I well received your message. I think the function of Wiki is to spread and share right knowledge worldwide. I think the part of controversy is not objective. I knew a case of lawsuit is true. however the contents( i mean written sentences) is NOT objective because the references are from article. As you know, articles always include personal opinion. i truly agree there are FACT too. but i would like to say, the reference is part of article and some parts are not objective because it is personal thought.

secondly, main part of Pepero page is covered by Controversy. what is the important factor of Wiki page? main contents(explanation, sales volume, # of countries etc) is more important than extra one(lawsuit etc)

and i am preparing for main contents parts now and i will update in a day.

that's the reason why i edit the Controversy part firstly.

i hope this message help you understand what i intend.

Speedy speedy deletions

Hi Jim. Just wanted to request that you give contributors more than a few minutes to create their articles before flagging them for speedy deletion. While most if not all of the articles you've recently tagged would still be likely candidates if left for longer, it's worth trying to avoid biting new contributors by giving them a little longer to sort their articles out; some of your recent tags were made just one minute after the article was posted. Thanks, Sam Walton (talk) 12:36, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

@Samwalton9: Huggle probably should be modified to delay displaying of new articles. Right now, they come up quickly and I don't know of a way of getting back to them without storing the information "off-Huggle". So, with me, it's now-or-never. So, I guess it's best if I not speedy new articles.
How long would be a good delay before tagging? Or, should it be a matter of update rate? i.e. if the editor is updating the article, delay longer? I might add this as a Huggle feature request. Thanks for the suggestion! Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 15:12, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
Ahh, didn't notice you were using Huggle. If they create a criteria-filling article (that isn't an obvious hoax, attack page, copyright, or similarly serious) then I'd personally rather see them given at least an hour before you tag, but agree that if they're actively editing to perhaps just make a note to yourself and leave them to it. It's hard to generalise and I'm hesitant to say there's a definite 'time to wait', we should just be careful when reviewing possibly unfinished articles less than 5 minutes after the first edit to them. Pacifica Forum

Jim1138, I have no idea who you are but I edit under my own good name and am the "reliable source" since I was the single most frequent presenter among numerous others at the Forum between 2005 and 2007. I was first invited to join these weekly discussion programs following my op-ed in the Eugene Register-Guard advocating impeachment after revelation of the Downing Street memo and participating in an invited forum on impeachment alongside our former congressman Jim Weaver and UO Professor Frank Stahl. The PF presentation topics identified as examples were primarily my own well-researched, often PowerPoint presentations. I am the veteran cited in two presentations listed, and am national vice-chair of the Veterans for Peace working group on Palestine and the Middle East. I am a retired NIH-funded behavioral research scientist, a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, and a member of the International Society of Political Psychology. I now have a weekly community TV interview program dealing with the same issues of rapacious US imperialism historically and today focused primarily on the Middle East and Central Asia, Israeli dispossession and occupation of Palestine, and the need to radically redirect resources from illegal international aggression - overt, covert and proxy - to renewable energy and other climate change abatement measures to preserve life on earth.

I was one of the two participants who disassociated ourselves following White Separatist infiltration in August 2007. We made our disassociation very public, as described, to protect our own reputations, and I expect Wikipedia to do the same. We contributed to and are named as sources in the 2009 SPLC report. Nobody representing the SPLC, BTW, ever attended or directly witnessed any PF meeting during my period of participation. The forum had existed for many years before this as a responsible, credible and valuable weekly discussion group with diverse presenters, originally founded as described by Quaker pacifist, retired UC and UO professor, and classical musician Orval Etter. We have been victims of false and malicious hearsay used by political opponents to undermine our human rights work, resulting from SPLC mischaracterization of the forum as a "hate group" applied perhaps defensibly post-2007 (although it was an open public forum, never an organized "group") but is entirely slanderous if applied during our period of participation. My recent edits attempted to make this distinction absolutely clear. Associating my name with any form of racism is deeply offensive as well as defamatory. In the 1960s I worked in the civil rights movement in Louisiana and was appalled that Orval allowed a podium for racist viewpoints that I have always despised.

We expect Wikipedia to safeguard its own reputation by accurately representing this reality. Infiltration of porous programs and organizations by deliberate "extremists" is a well-known and long-practiced COINTELPRO strategy to discredit activist-educators who are cutting too close to the bone. If this was the case with PF, they succeeded in destroying a worthwhile although sparsely attended little forum. We have always suspected this but of course cannot prove it. The unknown source of funding for the infiltrators' high-profile outside "controversial" speakers additionally supported our suspicions. To enable readers to sort this out for themselves and draw their own inferences, please restore my edited text in its entirety. I understand that as the person profiled I have a personal, biased interest, however I do feel that cherry picking a few quotes from 30 years of writing and performing is also biased and aimed at undermining my appointment as an employee with the Australian Brodacasting Commission. Friendly Talk

I have read your "______" in Timothyjosephwood talk page. I have taken some time to invest in you. I am posting the very same details here hoping it would help.

Jim1138, this might help you or not. Its all in how you accept it. Your online racism and anger shouldn't be forced in Wikipedia. You can argue with someone if you find something is wrong. But the argument shouldn't be against the editor, it should be for the content. If you are burned and exhausted using your user-rights or gaming the system isn't the solution. Leave the topic to be handled by an another qualified editor within the project. If you revert something it should have an explanation that people can relate with WP:COMMON. Don't delete articles as soon as they are published if an editor asks for time give them at-least 20 days.(It wouldn't crumble your world). There is also a clear line between being bold and being a bully. Please don't consider this as patronizing or something that diminishes your value. This is a friendly and patient approach. The positive thing about you is that you post notices in the user pages, but in future also post specific guides or specific errors made in editing or decision taking within the policy structure. I will also try to learn more about the policies, hope your help would be there.117.241.20.244 (talk) 18:18, 16 April 2016 (UTC)
The racism card? Where was it I said anything about race? This would appear to be more trolling.
I'm bizarre? It is the IPs from Kerala, India that are being blocked, not I - WP:ANI#IP-hopping vandal/troll from Kerala, India still at it. Need a permanent solution.
The editing started rather suddenly with one IP being blocked and then a second IP from Kerala quickly starting and acting as though they are another person. I'm really curious, is this one person or has some prof from Kerala told their students to disrupt Wikipedia?
It is quite apparent that you are WP:NOTHERE. Jim1138 (talk) 00:10, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Cronulla Sharks

Hello,

I don't know why you removed my edits on the current Sharks wikipedia page as it is riddled with errors, both grammatical and factual. References to how excellent Damian Irvine's contribution was to the club without any facts to support these statements are incorrect. This page is supposed to represent factual information and should be objective and sourced, not subjective and a personal opinion. Further the information regarding the Coaching staff during the ASADA scandal was incorrect.

Thank you.110.175.152.70 (talk) 09:58, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi Jim, Pls let the edit be as I had done it. Sorry for the incomplete reasoning. The reason I edited the text of sanjeev Bagai was that some of the text was incorrect. This is the reason I took the initiative to change it. I would be grateful if you could revert the changes made by me on the page. 59.178.161.175 (talk) 10:25, 30 April 2016 (UTC) Thank you!

You removed references without leaving an wp:edit summary. Just saying "factually wrong" is not helpful as far as why you are making an edit. "No longer CEO at..." would be much better. BTW: "vice chairman" is not a proper noun and should not be capitalized as "Vice Chairman" "sanjeev Bagai" should be capitalized as it is a proper noun. It would be helpful if you left a link - Sanjeev Bagai so that I could find the article you are rerfering to. You can restore your edit in the wp:page history Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 10:43, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

To me, it looks like they changed some section headings and added some external links; which do not require sourcing. Please review WP:BITE.--v/r - TP 17:43, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

@TParis: What I reverted was this. The message was generated by Huggle and it only includes the user's last edit diff in the warning. Perhaps Huggle should be fixed to include the entire part being reverted? Perhaps fixing it isn't a priority for the Huggle crew. It seems that most don't read the message anyway. There were a number of unsourced sections. The Early years, 2013: ONE.5, and most of 2013: ONE' section was unsourced. JamesBWatson set the warning level immediately to two, so Huggle went to three. Perhaps the templates should include all of the information regarding the warning. The messages seem to assume that the previous messages were of the same type. i.e. uw-unsourced3 excludes some information found on uw-unsourced1. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 22:32, 30 April 2016 (UTC)

Keeping the Pilates article clean

Undid revision 713662942 by Jim1138 (talk)

Jim, each edit has its reasons explained, so I reckon the reversion and message I received from you were automatically-generated. Please do not revert again. For the last 8 years I have tried to keep our Wikipedia Pilates site clean from vandalism, advertisement and medical sciences trying trying to harness it. I am a 2nd generation instructor, after Joseph Pilates, graduated in New York. Unfortunately due to family and work I had not had time to check the evolution of the article since June 2015 until today, and I have found edits which clearly denotes purposes different than contributing with the field and improving our Pilates community article in Wikipedia.

In 2013 I warned my fellow editors here via the talk page of our Wikipedia's Pilates article, that the Pilates Method Alliance or someone using the PMA, was adding information with the intention of promoting their services and inflicting their own regulations on to the Pilates world, besides finding "creative" ways to link quotes to their own pages. Like the PMA, there are many other organisation across the world with similar purposes, therefore we can't accept this type of addition which is bias and only encourages others to jump on the same train knowing they are doing so with conflict of interests. Organisation should create their own Wikipedia pages if they feel they need to tell their own truth, if you know what I mean.

I have found also some edits from, what I guess, are people involved in the medical field which every now and then think they have to tell the Pilates community what Pilates is good for or not, and then one of the fellow instructors has to go and revert the edits if we have time to do so. Pilates is a work out and therefore has no relation to the medical fields. As said, if someone feel the urgency to start listing medical investigations they have done about Pilates, then they should create their own Wiki pages for that. Wikipedia's Pilates article is for the purpose of defining the discipline, its principles and history.

Kind regards

Wikipedia has a policy of wp:verifiability. To fulfill this, wp:citations showing wp:reliable sources are added so that people can verify information. Adding citations or references is how we ensure that content is correct. Without references, a reader can not easily validate information and there is no presumption of accuracy. The information you removed seems to have a number of citations supporting it. If you can find reliable scholarly sources showing what is accurate, please cite these sources and discuss them on the talk page: talk:Theories of Pashtun origin. This would likely be the only way you will get this changed. I don't know who you are and have no idea where your information is coming from so I can't accept your claim that the information is incorrect. Thank you Jim1138 (talk) 08:32, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Excuse me?

I am not using it as "a forum", I'm using it to complain about the way Wikipedia treats the article, and how it needs to have 7 or 8 different templates to appease one particular political ideology. Hardly NPOV is it?

But then again, I suspect you are of that particular political ideology, so I don't expect you to bother holding any real discussions or even to make the attempt to see things from my point of view, but then again, that is the price we pay for letting the "terminally tolerant" rule the roost. Shame on Wikipedia for treating one subject differently to the others, and shame on you for perpetuating it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.105.68.243 (talk) 09:18, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
