Arbitration

  • Following the banning of an editor by the WMF last year, the Arbitration Committee resolved to hold an RfC regarding on-wiki harassment. The RfC has been posted at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Anti-harassment RfC and is open to comments from the community.
  • The Medicine case was closed, with a remedy authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for all discussions about pharmaceutical drug prices and pricing and for edits adding, changing, or removing pharmaceutical drug prices or pricing from articles.

Notice

The article Paulina Hedqvist has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG due to no sources covering her in depth; still an active player in the third tier [1] but no guarantee that she will ever be notable.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Thanks Spiderone. Appreciate the heads-up. Hmlarson (talk) 14:55, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
@Spiderone: (cc: Fenix down, GiantSnowman, and Number 57) -- I would like to request your individual opinions on how relevant WP:FPL is for women's football? Damallsvenskan is on essay in 2016 when Paulina Hedqvist was published.
When creating the Paulina Hedqvist article, I went along with WP:FPL "notability" and now you appear to be reinforcing the essay's irrelevancy once again. I invited Fenix down, GiantSnowman, and Number 57 to this discussion as you appear to have a long history of edits and reverts on the WP:FPL essay.
Is an article on a 2016 Damallsvenskan player notable based on WP:NFOOTY and its essay, WP:FPL? Hmlarson (talk) 15:31, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
This is worth discussing at WT:FPL and I will raise it there. GiantSnowman 15:33, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
Typical. When you're done there, can you provide the link to the archived version? Thank you! Hmlarson (talk) 16:35, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
I'm removing the PROD. I had no idea that it used to be listed on FPL but got taken off. Probably best to see how that discussion concludes. Thanks Spiderone 18:10, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
Spiderone When you include some editors that actually work on improving articles about women's football -- you'll get a more reliable consensus. See WP:WOSO. This is an absolutely boring distraction doing nothing but reinforcing the WP:FPL essay's unreliability - but thanks for the reminder. Hmlarson (talk) 18:18, 31 October 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Vivianne Miedema

On 5 December 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Vivianne Miedema, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Arsenal footballer Vivianne Miedema (pictured) is the all-time leading scorer in the FA Women's Super League and has scored more goals at the international level than any other Dutch player? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Vivianne Miedema. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Vivianne Miedema), and it may be added to the statistics page if it received over 400 views per hour. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

@Hmlarson: why did you use a template for the table on this page? It will make it difficult for other users to edit the table section. Josedimaria237 (talk) 16:44, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

@Josedimaria237: Or will make it easier for users to follow changes to the table. --SuperJew (talk) 19:26, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
@Josedimaria237: That's how it's done for other league season articles. See 2019 National Women's Soccer League season Do you prefer something else? I understand the frustration with the formatting.Hmlarson (talk) 20:16, 12 January 2021 (UTC)

Amarachi Orjinma has moved to Delta Queens

Hello, trust you've been good. I just wanted to let you know that 2014 top scorer of Nigerian elite league, Amarachi Orjinma has moved to Delta Queens from Rivers Angels due to a lack of playing time. This happened since the beginning of this season that started late last year. What is even more interesting is that she is second in the list of top scorers in the ongoing season (last I checked). I tried to find a reference that says she is now a Delta Queens player, and the following was the best I could get 1, 2. The reason I am telling you this is so the Evripedia article could be updated to reflect this. HandsomeBoy (talk) 07:45, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

Thank you HandsomeBoy. Can you review and confirm if anything should be edited or added?
In 2020, Orjinma moved to Delta Queens from Rivers Angels.ref She scored the game-winning goal against Sunshine Queens on 23 December. refref On 29 December, she scored a goal against her former team Rivers Angels.ref
I've also got some work I've been meaning to do for the Asisat Oshoala article ref. Thanks for the ping.Hmlarson (talk) 17:08, 28 March 2021 (UTC)
The additions are great and representative on what's on ground. If not for the inadequate statistical records during her time in the local league, AZ has potential to become a GA article. Still does to me! HandsomeBoy (talk) 14:39, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Kudos!!

The Special Barnstar
Wonderful work done on Asisat Oshoala, I was looking forward to working on it but unfortunately, you beat me to it. Haha, But I like what I am seeing. Lots of details have been added Kudos! I worked on something on Elizabeth Addo also a couple of months ago, I noticed less information and a well-defined structure for the African women footballers. Looking forward to editing on more of it. I think this barnstar would do the trick to sum it up.. Ampimd (talk) 16:56, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Ampimd (talk) 16:56, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Thank you Ampimd. Might you and HandsomeBoy be interested in helping make the Asisat Oshoala article a WP:GOOD? I'd like to add a section on her Early life and Stye of Play before nominating - but could use help with the suggestions that the reviewer comes up with for making it a good article. Once passed, it can be featured on the homepage. Hmlarson (talk) 17:42, 1 April 2021 (UTC)
Thats great! I am in, let me if anything. Ampimd (talk) 23:24, 4 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm in too. I will let you know if I find more reliable sources covering her "style of play and early life". Let me officially say hello to you Ampimd, I have gone through your userpage and it is nice to see a fellow W/African interested in women football. Hopefully, we can work something together in the future.HandsomeBoy (talk) 09:44, 6 April 2021 (UTC)

HandsomeBoy and Ampimd - I was surprised to see there was not already an article for Gift Monday so I created a start for it today. If you know of additional points to add, can you do so? I think there's more about her top scoring in the league. Thank you. Hmlarson (talk) 02:01, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

A quick search revealed the following - Total goals scored in 2019 NWPL, Scored in a Super Falcons friendly game, made team list for 2018 WAFU but did not make final cut, represented Nigeria at 2019 African Games. I'd add them to the article soon. HandsomeBoy (talk) 08:40, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

Hmlarson I checked out the article on Gift Monday thats surely a good start. Hello HandsomeBoy Sure, I am glad to see more people from our sub-region getting involved in helping to create more articles related to football in generation and women's football. I look forward to working on some projects together as well. Ampimd (talk) 08:01, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Happy Spring WHOCKEY editors!

After more than a year without international women’s ice hockey, we’re finally just a month away from the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship! The IIHF Worlds, in partnership with the Olympic Games, are the most watched annual women’s ice hockey tournaments in the world and spark more interest in the women’s game than any other events. We have a great opportunity to enrich the fan experience by offering up-to-date and informative articles about players, national teams, and other subjects related to the tournament.

The only women's players included in WP:NHOCKEY are players who have competed in the Top Division of the World Championship – meaning a bevy of player bios will get to be created in the next month. Hungary is set to make its Top Division debut and Denmark is returning to the Top Division for the first time since 1992. What an exciting time to be editing!

Articles related to the 2021 Worlds that are in need of creation, updates, or edits are collected at the National Teams & International Tournaments initiative page. Please add to the list if you find something in need of attention so we may collaborate and help one another in the coming weeks.

Did you know ...

WP:GNG takes precedence over WP:NHOCKEY (which only includes players on women's national teams at the highest tier of IIHF competition)? Often times there is enough media coverage to meet WP:GNG or other notability guidelines. Be sure to tag the task force on the talk page of new articles with: {{WikiProject Women's sport|icehockey=yes}}

2020–21 Season in Women's Ice Hockey Leagues

What a wild ride the 2020–21 season has been! Many leagues were able to complete the season despite the need for alternations and amendments with respect to COVID-19. Hearty congratulations to all of the league champions – 2020–21 is definitely one for the history books.

Hi. Where is the significant news coverage that you are referring to? Of her recent transfer, I can only find it on Fleury's website, rather than independent sources. News searches only seem to come up with very brief passing mentions in match reports which do not confer notability. Please can you link me to better sources? Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 21:18, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

interesting. What search engine are you using? Can you provide the link to it?Hmlarson (talk) 21:26, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
DDG and Google of course. Interestingly there is one source but one source doesn't make someone notable, as you are well aware. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 21:32, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
One source. Lol. Keep going. Context is important as is Google News DK.
Curious what you think drives your focus on deleting articles on women footballers? Are women that intimidating? In my opinion, that is what it looks like from the outside. Hmlarson (talk) 22:42, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
You may prefer to ask why I continually put male footballers up for deletion despite never creating any. See User:Spiderone/Mypages. Does that make me a misandrist? Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 10:06, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
Avoiding the question. Got it. Hmlarson (talk) 16:02, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Spiderone - somewhat related, when creating new articles like Abbie Magee, be sure to include references to meet WP:GNG. Thanks. Hmlarson (talk) 15:39, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

She doesn't meet GNG yet, unfortunately, but does meet NFOOTBALL. Maybe in a year or two, there will be more in-depth coverage. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 16:24, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
LOL.
Pop!
Pop!
Make sure you get that club experience in there. We wouldn't want to delete herstory.

Hmlarson (talk) 16:34, 18 April 2021 (UTC)

I'm so confused Spiderone - you knowingly create articles which to your claim don't meet WP:GNG (I'm not claiming if she does or not as I haven't checked), but as long as they hit the one bar of an international appearance (no matter what nation), it's fine. Are you honestly saying that a handful of W-League appearances are worth less than 5 minutes playing for Vanuatu? --SuperJew (talk) 18:23, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
In my opinion, representing your country at senior level is one of the highest honours in sport. Yes, playing in a professional national league is also really good but I think that representing your country, whichever country that is, makes you a top, top footballer and we should cover such players. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 18:41, 18 April 2021 (UTC)
As is the top league in the country. Hmlarson (talk) 18:34, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Courtney_Wetzel

In this edit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Courtney_Wetzel&diff=prev&oldid=574947647

You stated: Wetzel attended Oregon State University from 2007 to 2010

However that doesn't appear to match the media guide https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/oregonstate.sidearmsports.com/documents/2020/11/3/Oregon_State_WBB_2020_21_Media_Guide.pdf

Which states that she was only at Oregon State for one season, and the NCAA career stats page which only has an entry for 2010-11.

Am I missing something?--S Philbrick(Talk) 14:39, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Sphilbrick - How’re you? Thanks for your message. I should be able to take a look in the next few days. Have a good one. Hmlarson (talk) 15:40, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

You might get a small chuckle out of this one...

You made this edit five and a half years ago to fix a broken table, which made sense... except that somebody vandalized the page (which ended up breaking the table that you subsequently fixed).

What ended up happening was that Abby Wambach had her 2015 WWC Final appearance missing from her article. (Somehow nobody spotted it for 5.5 years!?)

I fixed it, so don't worry about it. But I think you'd get a laugh out of this. Just maybe. - Penwhale | dance in the air and follow his steps 19:42, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

On 21 August 2021, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Quinn (soccer), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Quinn (pictured) became the first out, transgender, non-binary athlete to medal at the Summer Olympic Games when they won gold with the Canada national soccer team? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Quinn (soccer). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Quinn (soccer)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:22, 29 November 2022 (UTC)

  • A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Love is an Art a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Love Is An Art. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
