Hello. Thanks for your comments on draft: Ulsanbawi. I'm companion of editor of Ulsanbawi. But I think that I didn't understand your saying. Did you mean we need to add the author of reference 2, 3? But it is very old book and it was made in Joseon period in South Korea. Could you send your thoughts to my email? It'll be my pleasure If you do. Ulysseyson (talk) 04:25, 15 June 2018(UTC)
- @Ulysseyson: the problem is that the URLs resulted from a search that someone did. Later on the search may yield different results, so we do not know if the same thing will come up. Even if the books are old there must be something to identify them. Do they have a title? or some kind of information so that the book can be found and consulted again. For one I get a translated title of "Harmful house" 해악집 and also Co-editors = Lee Myung-hwan, Collection = Kyujanggak Books and also come comment about book 2 in 4 volumes. So whatever information about the book, including a page numb er, should go with the reference. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:36, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: Sorry for answer late.. :(I found the chapter of 해악집 which poetry written. in this link : [1] Then please say about writing reference with this. Do I just need to write author, and place where the book is and size of book? Or I have to write the chapter which I found? If I have to write chapter, how I do? I'm really thank you always.:) Ulysseyson (talk) 4:25, 17 June 2018(UTC)
- @Ulysseyson: you don't need to copy the whole chapter, but you should give as much bibliographic information as you can. If a whole chapter is important then you can give its title or number. The idea is to have enough information so that someone who knows Korean could go to a library and ask to see the book and verify what it says. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:11, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: I fixed references!! I don't make sure that my work is right....could you comment one more time for me.Thank you. Ulysseyson (talk) 11:12, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Ulysseyson: that looks more structured. Are you able to add an English translation for the title? And also give page numbers if it is not the whole book? There is no longer a URL. Can that web site have a "permanent link"?Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:13, 18 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: I finished it. And I think translate will not be correct because it is Hanja. Without it I finished all references. thank you. Ulysseyson (talk) 09:53, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Hello. Thanks for your verification. Can you please check that the edit I made (I removed external link) is suitable to remove the Advert flag you previously placed? Jblaloe (talk) 14:16, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Jblaloe: The problem is the tone of the article. It sounds as if it is trying to promote the subject and make it sound good. Things to change are decapitalise GlobalFoundries to make it less prominent. Reduce use of peacock adjectives. It has the tone of being a section from a CV. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:27, 12 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: Thanks for the feedback. I have de-capitalized the company name, I understand. I am continuing to work on the page to tone it down as you suggest. Thanks. Jblaloe (talk) 16:30, 13 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank you

03:26:52, 30 January 2018 review of submission by Soloricon
[edit]
The Press Release for Solar Head of State was taken from my resume and information on my web site. This is why it reads similar to what is cited in the Wikipedia text. Therefore, you are now requesting that I rewrite my own words in my own words. I am not sure how this is possible. I will add references, as requested, but the implication that I plagiarised the Solar Head of State Press Release is insulting
Soloricon (talk) 03:26, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- @Soloricon: Here on Wikipedia we do not know who you are. So please do not be insulted if you might be considered as somebody else. However there are some things you could do or should do. Since you are closely working with the subject and probably paid, you should read WP:Paid editing and make a formal disclosure. Secondly, to prove that you want that press release to also be useable on Wikipedia, you can add the same kind of license on the website, that is a CC-BY-SA-3.0, which will prove that you are the same person that put the content there, and do want it copied. Another way is to do the actions at WP:OTRS, by sending an email from your domain stating that you hold the copyright and want to give it under the GFDL/CC-BY-SA-3.0 license. In any case to show Notability of a subject or person we need at least two independent, reliable and substantial writings on the topic. These do not include press releases, as they are not independent. I don't know if there are sources for James L Fletcher. I hope you can find suitable ones. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:41, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Edit war.
[edit]I understand that you have warned me about an edit war. But are you going to warn User:NorthBySouthBaranof too? He has been equally participating in an edit war. Also, may I know why my question was removed? Knowing why will help me understand why I am getting these warnings. Regards. --Ter-roof-tel-err (talk) 05:36, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- I am considering warning, however MarnetteD has also reverted you and you have put this up 6 times now. So you are over the warring limit. I was distracted by looking at the talk page Wikipedia talk:Reference desk to see if anyone was talking about your question. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:40, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- You wasted my time and everyone else's by not just blocking this person straightaway. They've since been indef'd as a sock by User:NinjaRobotPirate. An apology would be nice - I don't appreciate being barked at by an admin who can't be arsed to actually look at what a trolling user is doing and instead just baldly accuse me of "edit-warring" because I happen to be nice enough to take the time to revert a sockpuppet vandal. NorthBySouthBaranof (talk) 09:48, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- Ref desk trolling is a problem that needs firm treatment. It is not always easy for onlookers to recognize what is going on, but applying WP:DENY is common as it is the only way to break the habit. For example, see diff and IP's contribs (31-hour block). Johnuniq (talk) 10:04, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
Reaxys in Chembox
[edit]Hi, I noticed you added |Reaxys=
to Chembox, like here. However, at the moment this is not an existing parameter, and it reports the article at Category:Chemical articles with unknown parameter in Chembox.
I suggest that if you think Reaxys should be added to the template, you propose that at Chembox (talk). -DePiep (talk) 10:56, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
- I was thinking of asking for it. It seems to duplicate the Beilstein reference in cases where that exists. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:10, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

[edit]23:56:44, 23 February 2018 review of submission by Iac 6483
[edit]
Iac 6483 (talk) 23:56, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Hi Graeme. Thanks for reviewing my article. I appreciate the work that you're doing for wikipedia and hope that we can come to an agreement so that my article can be posted soon.
I see that my submission was declined on the grounds that the material was allegedly copied from the artist's CV. Considering that I spent hours writing the content on this page, and researching relevant sources for accuracy (in addition to providing visitors to this page with further reading material should they be interested to investigate further), this was a disappointment. I took every appropriate measure to cite my sources, and any un-cited material that appears in the article was written by me in my own words. For these reasons, it is unclear to me which part of the text you believe was copied from the artist's CV.
I am eager to resolve this issue and urgently would like to discuss any content that copied from another source. Many thanks again for your time and consideration, I look forward to your response very soon.
- @Iac 6483: I have removed some more copying from the "Deconstruction of a Mountain". I am useing this https://tools.wmflabs.org/copyvios/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=Draft%3AAndrea+Galvani&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1&turnitin=0 to check for copying from web sites. Also Primefac has hidden earlier copying. Next "Ibid" should never appear in a reference, as people can easily insert things between the references. Nothing here is totally finished and can be modified. Are you being paid to write this? if you are please read WP:Paid editing. You can press "Resubmit" when ready. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:24, 24 February 2018 (UTC)
Can you combine the histories of William Bentvena and William Devino plus their talk pages and userfy this for me? Valoem talk contrib 12:19, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

- See User:Valoem/William Devino which has a very big history. Only one revision timed 15:07, 11 January 2018 for " William Bentvena", its not important in wiki history. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:30, 24 February 2018 (UTC)

- WP:RFA.
- See Draft:Dell Boomi history
- Better ask user talk:Ronhjones about Genco Abbandando. As he has the last protector. The AFD was pretty definitive but long ago. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:20, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- And this one XNXX should have been deleted via AFD: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/XNXX but instead was invalidly deleted by G11. However there is no useful content, and no useful references, so you you may as well start it from scratch. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:32, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
Concerns about non-sourced edits
[edit]Hello, I've never been in a situation like this, so I don't really know the protocol, but I have concerns about a user who has been making the same changes as User:Ozarcusmapesae to articles where I reverted on the basis of them being unsourced. I don't want to assume anything but they seem to be creating the same sorts of unsourced articles and making random changes to taxonomies, as well as some other things which lead me to suspect they are the same person (and started editing again after Ozarcusmapesae stopped editing). They are similarly unresponsive on their talk page and not providing edit summaries, so I feel my attempts at talking to them directly will go unheard (for example, they undid my reversions of the unsourced changes the aforementioned user made, without adding any citations or an edit summary). Not sure what to do, any advice? I don't want to attack anyone or put anyone off from making edits, as some of their edits are constructive (I think, as someone not too knowledgeable about ichnospecies), but they also seem to be making a large amount of unsourced changes and additions, which will need to be gone through to determine their validity. Very confused about the whole thing, any help appreciated! Thanks, ElfLady64 (talk) 21:51, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- @ElfLady64: Hi Fiona, are you talking about Sanajeh? Anyway I have also left a message on this user's talk page. One issue is that everything is templated notifications, and not a personal message. Sometimes email can make contact with unresponsive users, but there's no email enabled. The formal method for problems for socking users (a person using more than one userid abusively) is WP:SPI. However it is very difficult to format your request, and I think I have never done things correctly there. If you just need to get someone blocked WP:ANI is the place to debate this. One way to get them blocked is the get a team of people to revert bad changes, and if the bad user persists it can be blocked for WP:3RR violation. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:13, 25 February 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, that is them! Thank you, Graeme, I guess I'm not just seeing things where they aren't! I have the problem where I'm not familiar enough with the subject matter to know if the changes are blatantly wrong, or just poorly interpreted or unsourced, so I didn't really want to just go straight to WP:ANI (especially if they are young like you suspected in the paleontology talk thread). I will talk with some of the other people I noticed reverting their edits to see what they think. However, they seem to often just give up when their articles are contested, and don't necessarily go back to old articles but instead make the same types of changes on new ones, so as to avoid notice of the fact they are continuing to make disruptive edits, and also avoiding WP:3RR. Thanks for your input! ElfLady64 (talk) 22:22, 25 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi, I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, and something caught my attention. You marked Promineral SA as reviewed. I had a look at the user who created it, Special:Contributions/Ovvo, and it looks like that user has done nothing over the years but maintain a page about the company who's just bought the one that the new article is about. This may or may not be some kind of conflict of interest. What do you normally do in these cases? Thanks, Dr. Vogel (talk) 02:35, 3 March 2018 (UTC) BTW you can reply here, I'm watching this page.
- @DrVogel: Thanks for your alert. I have tagged this with a COI tag. We should also ask Ovvo to make a WP:Paid editing disclosure. There is also an email enabled. Do you want to do this request? In the longer term an AFD may be appropriate for those low notability companies. I prefer to let the writer have a chance to prove notability before arranging AFD. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 02:45, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- He/she is already going to hate me enough for bringing this to your attention! What do you normally do? Leave a message at the user's talk page politely asking them to disclose if they have a COI? Dr. Vogel (talk) 02:55, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Yes. It is often ignored. Don't just ask about conflict of interest, but ask about being paid, and ask them to read and then follow the instructions in Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:00, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- Ok, done. I've probably made my first wikienemy though. Dr. Vogel (talk) 03:07, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
- It does not sound too aggressive. See what happens. If you take having enemies, having your pages vandalised, and email harassed, then that is what admins and vandal fighters here experience. I was hoping there would be a standard text template to put on a talk page, but I didn't find it. Let me know if you experience trouble, but more likely nothing at all will happen! - I only undeleted one revision before, but the AFD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prakash Neupane (2nd nomination) was what has decided the fate. Because of this I suggest that you write a draft:Prakash Neupane, incorporating your new references to show notability. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:11, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- Can you approve it after i creates Draf one please let me know? 27.34.16.58 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 11:08, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- I can look at it, but it will only be approved if it is suitable. You can use the WP:AFC process to get others to approve it (or not). Another thing to do is WP:Deletion review, but it will be best to have a good draft ready to go. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:01, 8 March 2018 (UTC)

- For Federico Giovanelli it is all copyright violations. I restored Ciro Perrone. For Dominick Alongi, Dominick DiQuarto they are A7 fodder, so if you want userfication, that is possible, but otherwise would not survive in article space. They are just 1 or 2 lines. EMTEC DRAFT- Request to review for issues
[edit]Good morning Graeme, We have been working on the Emtec wiki page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Emtec) for some time and it seems to have been rejected for sources that are not 3rd party sources. When reviewed, the actual sources we have provided are in fact 3rd party sources. It seems the person who rejected our profile is no longer part of this wiki approval process so we hope you can help.
After the last reject- we edited the page to ensure it was informational only, ensuring any promotional content was removed, updating links, making sure 3rd parties were cited, and removed some internal press release links.
We have been getting inundated with requests for the other Emtec noted at this wiki address- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMTEC and our legal team has requested we get our Wiki page approved so there is some record of the two different firms on Wikipedia. This will hopefully help the situation.
Before we submit the page again, Can you please tell us what we need to edit- if anything- to get this page approved?
Appreciatively,
Deanna Evers Devers9
Devers9 (talk) 14:25, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Devers9: Please read WP:Paid editing and make your statement on your user page User:Devers9. I have started looking at some references. May are just a single named appearance on a list of many. What we need also is substantial, independent coverage. I would expect at least 2 paragraphs. Independent means that it is not written by EMTEC or those it does business with. This looks like it has copyright issues, but it's not so much a copyvio from the link you posted, more close paraphrasing and an unattributed quote. I see you assessed the first cut of this article as Start: Provides some meaningful content, but most readers will need more. See WP:ARTASS. It would be helpful if you could provide notes on the article's talk page (not here) saying what improvements you feel would be needed to bring the article up to C class: Useful to a casual reader. Better still, if the missing information is readily available perhaps you could add it. The casual reader is not the same as the average Joe. Presumably they have some level of interest in paramontroseite or they would not have looked it up or clicked on a link to it. I very rarely start articles on minerals and have no idea what people interested in them would be looking for. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 23:05, 15 March 2018 (UTC)

- @Aditya Mani Tripathi: I see you have made some small changes, but I still need you to attach the reference URL to the text it applies to. I am not worried about grammar or format, or URL only as this is fixable by copyeditors. For example should be inserted into a paragraph just after the statement of his political party. Hi. regarding draft:journal of oleo science
[edit]Hi, I am new to hosting a page on wiki and doing it for a client of ours that wanted their journal page hosted on wikipedia. i am not from a software or any such background. I pretty much din't understand what your comment below meant; Comment: Independent sources are needed to show notability. These come from writers that are not connected with the journal. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:47, 20 March 2018 (UTC) Could you please help me understand. I much appreciate your time and inputs since that would help me provide the journal information in the right manner to the greater audience of wikipedia.
Thanks Cactuscom123 (talk) 08:38, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Cactuscom123: I am talking about the citations and references, which either are from the journal, or from the indexers, which are connected to the journal by their indexing. I would like to see mentions of this journal from other journals. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:19, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Thankyou @Graeme Bartlett. The journal being indexed in SCIE/PubMed/JCR shows the robust screening process that it has survived and extends credibility to the information provided about the journal to the relevant audience. The journal has turned completely English only by 2011 and publishes articles relevant to a a very narrow subject area. This constraints the possibility of any mentions of this journal at this juncture in time. It would need time. The journal has taken relevant efforts and applying to wikipedia is one of the efforts to create awareness about the JOS journal. The journal holds good promise and we are trying to help them in this process. As of yet, i haven't been able to find any suitable mention. The wiki pages of Journal of chemical sciences and Blood journal don't seem to have any such mention. If you deem it pertinent, could you provide some examples to ways in which i could find such mentions. Much thanks and regards, Cactuscom123 (talk) 15:01, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Hello. There's a whole sock farm actively promoting the article, and the subject of it, here on en:WP. I have sofar seen at least four new, or previously existing but never before used, user accounts doing the promotion, plus the IP that tried to promote it to a featured article, so it wouldn't surprise me the least if it's a case of paid editing. They have also made multiple attempts to bypass AfC by moving the multiple times declined draft (declined in January and then again in March) to main space themselves, which is why I moved it back to draft space again, assuming it was yet another such attempt, before noticing that it had been accepted by you... - Tom | Thomas.W talk 11:17, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Notability Guideline
[edit]Graeme, Thanks for looking over the Alcotomic article. As per the Wikipedia Notability guideline (music), criteria for musicians and ensembles points 6, 10, 11 have all been met through national television appearances, songs used for national television programs, national radio rotation and notable musicians. APRPA/AMCOS databases and FreeDB databases criteria has been met and included. AllMusic database also checks out but I was advised to remove that citation even though the notability guide suggests it is a ‘good online source’. I have reinstated that citation. The band are also clearly noted in detail in Chris Spencer’s the Who’s Who of Australian Rock (1987). Hope this all checks out. Regards, John John DB (talk) 06:05, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Ioana Iulia Musat (talk) 14:44, 27 March 2018 (UTC)
- @Ioana Iulia Musat: hi Iulia, the first thing for you to do is to read WP:Paid editing and make your disclosure, about which company you are doing this for etc. You can do it on your own user page User:Ioana Iulia Musat. In the case of Summer Well Festival, it was written in a promotional tone, to make the reader think that it is good. There are numerous peacock terms in the writing. Instead it must be written in a neutral tone, read Wikipedia:Neutral point of view. Instead the article should be based on what other writers wrote, particularly independent writers not paid by the subject of the article. I expect that there will be newspaper articles or magazine appearances that are not press releases that you could use. If you are going to write, please use a draft say Draft:Summer Well Festival. advise please!
[edit]Hi Graeme, you were really helpful when I was taking my first steps in Wikipedia, so I thought it would be a good idea to seek your advise about a situation I've never run into before.
There's an article, Marina Stefanoni, which is constantly being edited by a person who appears to be the subject of the article. This person uses an account that is identical to the article title, User:Marina Stefanoni, plus 2 anonymous IPs that belong geographically to the same place that the person in question is from (Connecticut, U.S.): Special:Contributions/107.0.112.133 and Special:Contributions/69.117.242.143.
I've left very friendly and welcoming messages in the talk pages of the user and the 2 IP's (6, 7, 8), but the person has ignored all my messages and the edits continue.
The vast majority of the edits are unsourced claims, which I've removed and I've even left edit summaries which explain the situation and explain to the person how to find her own talk page and the messages, but she ignores it all and carries on and adds things again.
How do you deal with this situation? Would be very grateful for your advise as I haven't run into this type of situation before.

Hello, I'm Graeme Bartlett. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:37, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, I've already left her 4 messages explaining that, but she ignores them, and keeps editing her own article. What is the best thing to do about that? I mean, about the conflict of interest, as she is editing the article that is about herself. Dr. Vogel (talk) 12:40, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry to pester you, I'm only asking for your advice because you've helped me a lot before, but if you're too busy I can try to ask someone else, nothing to worry about! Dr. Vogel (talk) 01:03, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- Other things to do are to ask at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Squash to get more people to watchlist the page. The edits do not seem to be serious enough to block, and long blocks on IPs are not advised, and IP hopping can stop them being effective. Another action is to ask for page semi-protection, but usually this only will happen if there is a high rate of bad editing. A last straw is to raise the issue at WP:ANI. I see you assessed this article as "Provides some meaningful content, but most readers will need more". You also noted that the article contains material about living persons. The subject died in 1892. Did you read the article? What other information do you think would make the article useful to a casual reader? I am starting to feel harassed given our recent interaction on Talk:Paramontroseite and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rocks and minerals#Assessment criteria. Is this the right place to discuss this? Aymatth2 (talk) 23:59, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Aymatth2: please do not feel harassed! I am happy to see your new articles, as I never have to tag with a problem, do any wikifying or fixing up reference errors. The assessments are mainly just to include the article with a project. Though you are completely right about the error to do with the general! People are free to change assessments if they note changes needed. That includes you. You can also put project tags on talk pages yourself. I am disappointed that no one else contributed to the discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Rocks and minerals#Assessment criteria, and that means that there was no new ideas or input of opinions beyond what we already talked over. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:22, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
- I do feel harassed. When I was doing articles on protected areas in South America I got the same mindless assessments. You seem to be following me from one subject area to another. You have not answered my questions: Have you read this article? What other information do you think would make the article useful to a casual reader? Aymatth2 (talk) 00:33, 3 April 2018 (UTC)

- You actually need some sources. Are there any books about this place? Even a big inscription on a stone at the pagoda about its history will do to get some information about it. If you have been banned before, however, do not edit here. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:49, 3 April 2018 (UTC)
Hello, I've created and published an article yesterday about Charles Alexander Pasternak. I got a message 'This article is about a living person and appears to have no references. If no reliable references are found and added within a seven-day grace period, this article may be deleted' I added two references today (to books) but the message still remains - can you please remove it? Thank you very much. Kasia Lewis — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kasialewis (talk • contribs) 13:05, 5 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Kasialewis:. Hi. In this case you partially removed the template, and I put it back in. References means material that supports the information in the article. To show notability we need writings by independent people on the topic too. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:44, 5 April 2018 (UTC)

Undeletion
[edit]Sorry about the undeletion requests of pointless articles. So much workable content gets G13-ed it's hard to separate good content that got deleted from trash. Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 02:18, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- Perhaps you need to keep a record of what you think has potential. Then you don't have to ask for things that are just POJ to find out you were wasting time. If you want to reverse your request to bring something back, I think that can be justified as a "G7" or "g13" type of request. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 02:35, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- Right, I'm sorry about the hassle though. I should log what has potential and what doesn't. Jjjjjjdddddd (talk) 02:57, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

RHaworth and communicating
[edit]If he says he will better communicate, then why did he leave no edit summaries here[9] and here[10]? Please note my addition[11] to the ANI thread before you closed it. If RHaworth is going to communicate better, I think reverting without explanation contradicts that. I think your closure was premature before he is given a chance to explain himself. Again....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 13:42, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
- Good Day to you WilliamJE. I think there will never be an end to communicating or waiting for an answer. So you may as well use the relevant talk pages. For ANI we try to get the conversations closed so that people can get on with making an encyclopedia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:19, 15 April 2018 (UTC)

User:HOSODO
[edit]Hi Graeme. Since you were the admin who closed Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 17#File:Football Federation Islamic Republic of Iran.png, I'm wondering if you might be able to help explain/clarify the close at User talk:HOSODO#Non-free image use. I'm trying to cut this editor as much slack as possible, but they either do not understand the information I've provided on their user talk or have simply chosen to ignore it. Regardless of the why, edit warring over this is not really the way to go, so maybe you can help things settle down before they end up at WP:AN3 or otherwise blocked. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:42, 18 April 2018 (UTC)
You have no right to close a valid discussion
[edit]Wikipedia does not give you the right to close a valid discussion based on your own POV. Please undo it, or I will report you. --Matt Smith (talk) 12:59, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Matt Smith: Graeme did not edit the involved page in the last 1000 edits / 1.5 year, and did not participate in the discussion. I guess that fits pretty much the definition of 'uninvolved'. --Dirk Beetstra T C 13:06, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hi. I'm not sure what you are trying to convey by saying "uninvolved". Could you please elaborate? --Matt Smith (talk) 13:11, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) You claim that Graeme closed the discussion based upon his POV, so I believe Beetstra in response is making reference to WP:UNINVOLVED and WP:NHC. I'm not an admin, but just from looking at that discussion, it appears that the consensus is clearly and strongly against what you are proposing; so, my guess is that is why Graeme closed the discussion. At some point, you need to to be willing to accept that the consensus is against you and move on because it's highly unlikely that repeating the same arguments or accusing those who disagree with you of doing something inappropriate is going to change anyone's mind in your favor; it's more likely instead to be seen as tendentious and WP:IDHT. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:38, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Then he apparently misunderstood it. The discussion was... still a discussion. It hadn't yielded a conclusion, let alone a proposal. I was still discussing with an editor (User:CookieMonster755) who expressed his view about the lede, and I was trying to figure out whether the lede is giving him any inappropriate impression or not. So I don't think anyone has the right to close an ongoing discussion like that one. --Matt Smith (talk) 13:51, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

@Matt Smith: Yes, I was alluding to WP:INVOLVED - and I believe that uninvolved editors can close discussions. There is yet to be one editor that is agreeing with you in that thread, so claiming that you are waiting for yet another response where also that editor is stating that it is not confusing .. are you waiting for an editor to agree with you to be able to say that there is no consensus? --Dirk Beetstra T C 14:08, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Nope. That editor (User:CookieMonster755) didn't seem to understand what I asked him. I did not ask him if the lede is confusing. What I asked him when I pinged him is whether the lede is giving him an impression that Taiwan is a sovereign state or not. So I asked him again in a clearer way and I was still waiting for his reply. --Matt Smith (talk) 14:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- I do understand what you were asking me. The lede gives the impression that Taiwan is an independent entity, in which the ROC claims sovereignty over the island, but the status is disputed internationally due to PRC claiming it and considering ROC to be a rogue and pseudo-government. CookieMonster755✉ 16:06, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks. Could you be more clearer? Previously, you said: "
the primary topic of Taiwan is the sovereign entity governed by the Republic of China (ROC).
" And now you said: "The lede gives the impression that Taiwan is an independent entity.
" So does the lede gives you the impression that "Taiwan is a sovereign state" or not? --Matt Smith (talk) 16:30, 19 April 2018 (UTC)- How much more clear do you want me to be? :) like I said, the lede gives the impression (the first paragraph) that a) Taiwan is a independent entity, and b) that the Republic of Taiwan has sovereignty over the island of Taiwan. When I buy things made in Taiwan, it says "Taiwan, ROC" – suggesting that Taiwan/Republic of China is a sovereign nation, though the PRC dispute this. CookieMonster755✉ 18:25, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- I hope you could be clear about this question: Does the lede give you the impression "Taiwan is a sovereign state"? Yes or No? --Matt Smith (talk) 00:37, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

CookieMonster755✉ 16:06, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- I closed the discussion there because it was not going anywhere useful. The contents of the lede have been heavily discussed in the past, including the statement about Taiwan being or not being an independent state. My statement included in the closure summarised the argument, and included the fact that Matt disagreed. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:37, 19 April 2018 (UTC)
- You judged it too early. As you can see above, the discussion between I and User:CookieMonster755 (and presumably User:Samweithe4 and User:Old Naval Rooftops) is important because it can reveal how readers' thoughts are impacted by the lede. Wikipedia does not say contents of the lede that have been discussed in the past should not be revised forever. --Matt Smith (talk) 00:37, 20 April 2018 (UTC)
Review on the Portuguese-Ottoman War
[edit]Hello, I received an e-mail saying that my article was reviewed by you. What does that mean? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SirPortuga (talk • contribs) 00:58, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
- @SirPortuga: Reviewing means that I have checked if the page is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. I check if it should be speedy deleted or not. Your page did not need speedy deletion for copyright infringement or promotion or other reasons. However I did add a comment to the talk page about the scope, as there are several other similar pages. A topic expert like you should be able to tell if the topics are really distinct. If there is serious overlap, then a merge may be appropriate. So I encourage you to add a comment to the talk page about the scope compared to the pre-existing pages. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 01:06, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
Graeme I appreciate for your time reading my article. Yes, I have noticed that there are pages talking about smaller periods of this conflict. Lets discuss this then.SirPortuga (talk) 01:10, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
Graeme is it possible to delete a redirect page? I created a redirect page called "The Ottoman-Portuguese War" that sends us to the "Ottoman-Portuguese Conflict" which I would really appreciate your help to fix it, for the articles to be better organized. SirPortuga (talk) 02:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @SirPortuga: yes it is possible for administrators to delete a redirect, and I have done so. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 02:59, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme: Once again, thanks for your attention and kind support.
- @Graeme: Can I ask for a last help? Now I organized the page article, and there is one last redirect to be deleted concerning this topic: "The Portuguese-Ottoman War". Thanks for you attention again!SirPortuga (talk) 03:09, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @SirPortuga: I have deleted The Portuguese-Ottoman War. PS if you use "yo" you need to the full user name, .... but on my talk page I get notified anyway! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:12, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: thanks for the tip and support. To reply to a person citing his/her name do I always have to put that code? SirPortuga (talk) 13:35, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- IT is optional, but if you do it, they will get a ping alert. If you don't do it, they have to pay attention to the page with the talk to notice. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:37, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: I understand mate. One more doubt, please: is it Possible to change my username?SirPortuga (talk) 13:42, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- User:SirPortuga It is, see WP:CHU. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:45, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: As you know, I have created the page about the Ottoman-Portuguese war, my name as the creator will be changed there as well?SirPortuga (talk) 14:24, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @SirPortuga: yes, your name will change in the creator and history parts. It will be difficult to remove all trace of "SirPortuga", as the log will record a rename. If you do not want to be credited, or keep your history, you can register a new name and link back to the old, but that is mainly for those that have done nothing. I cannot rename you, so you have to follow the instructions at WP:CHU if you want to do it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:25, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: Yes, I have followed your tip and adressed the request in that page. I received a message by a bot saying there is "no problem" but my name remains the same. I guess I have to wait a bit longer. Now, concerning the pages about the Ottomans and Portuguese, have you seen my reply on the talk page of The Ottoman-Portuguese War?SirPortuga (talk) 21:47, 26 April 2018 (UTC)
- You will have to wait for a person to do the rename. Yes I have read it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:49, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Can you move this back to the mainspace I'll expand it and the current episode. There has been a precedence to keep these articles and also these two redirects DrDisRespect and Guy Beahm and the talk page of Dr DisRespect. Valoem talk contrib 11:51, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

- If you don't mind me asking, why? It's just a page with a bloated plot summary. It's not notable enough as an article to exist on Wikipedia. I'm tempted to mark it for deletion if its not improved in the next few days. Esuka323 (talk) 12:34, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- For the redirects you may as well just remake them, as there appears to be no valuable history or protection. For Journey into Night there is an offer to expand it, now that the episode has aired, someone has likely written about it. Previous episodes also have articles. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:55, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, the reason I request restoring redirects is to keep my counter on deleted articles the same, it allows me to keep track of any articles I created which are suddenly bold merged. @Esuka323:, there appears to be a precedence with HBO episodes in series to have individual articles due to widespeard reception in mainstream media. - @AlexTheWhovian: AfD is indeed the correct place if you wish to the episodes to be deleted/converted to a redirect; WP:NEXIST and all it doesn't matter what the current article looks like, and if you have a problem with the article's notability you can do that at AfD. Draftifying is fine as long as it isn't disputed; it isn't a method to put impose your own quality standards. Galobtter (pingó mió) 14:54, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- The move from the draft is what was disputed. Cheers. -- AlexTW 14:55, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- There's no need to be pedantic for the sake of it; this may technically be a contested move, however that isn't remotely applicable to the situation - nobody needs a consensus to create a page/move a page from draft unless there were previous AfDs and salting etc. In essence, you don't want the article in article space, ergo you should go to AfD, not draftify it. Galobtter (pingó mió) 15:01, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

- No it is not. Unless there was an AfD and I am trying to restore the same article, then my action would be bold. Article creation is not bold please review policy. Also I have more experience on this encyclopedia than you. You can question content creation from new editors, but not established editors unless through AfD. Three editors have already agreed with me. You are acting alone here. Valoem talk contrib 15:01, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- It was reverted. That makes it bold. The article was not created, not through Articles for Creation or any other method, it was moved from its established draft space. Just as any other move may be reverted.
I have more experience
Nice try at trying to get the upper hand, bud. I also have a lot of experience here. If anything, I have almost five times as many edits as you do. As can be seen, other editors also disagree with it being an article. Cheers. -- AlexTW 15:03, 30 April 2018 (UTC)- That's not how bold works, I've @DGG: an ArbCom member due to what you are saying. I am editing with consensus, you are the only one who thinks the articles are not ready, therefore you are being bold and your bold move back to draft has been questioned by multiple editors. I don't see anyone agreeing with you here. I've been here almost 4x as long and I know policy. When an experience editor asks you to take it to AfD is a disrespectful and bitey to refuse and move source content back. Valoem talk contrib 15:09, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
- To influence the discussion. Another canvas. If you read the discussions, I am clearly not the only editor disagreeing with it. Look at the start.
Also I have more experience on this encyclopedia than you.
Maybe I can pull that card? Almost five times as many edits, clearly more active than you. I recommend you take on the advice of more active editors. -- AlexTW 15:11, 30 April 2018 (UTC)- What discussion? You can not canvass without a discussion. I created a sourced article moved into the mainspace by an admin. You first accused me of canvassing which shows might not understand policy and also a violation of good faith. Drafting a sourced article by an experience editor is a violation of WP:AGF in itself. I also have consensus then you claim canvassing, this required me to establish seniority so you can better understand policy. Cheers. Valoem talk contrib 15:18, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

- To influence the discussion. Another canvas. If you read the discussions, I am clearly not the only editor disagreeing with it. Look at the start.
- That's not how bold works, I've @DGG: an ArbCom member due to what you are saying.
- It was reverted. That makes it bold. The article was not created, not through Articles for Creation or any other method, it was moved from its established draft space. Just as any other move may be reverted.

- @Kattiel: Take a look at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. I only clipped off a few sentences, so it will not be much effort to rewrite them anyway. Part of the point is that to use on Wikipedia, we need more than permission to use on Wikipedia, and instead it has to be in a compatible license such as CC-BY-SA-3.0, or if no attribution is required, CC-0. Help us design granular blocks!
[edit]Hello :-) The Anti-Harassment Tools team at the Wikimedia Foundation will start building these granular blocking tools in a few weeks and we've asked WMF designer Alex Hollender to help us make some wireframes so the tools are intuitive to MediaWiki users.
We have a first draft of how we think this tool should work. You can read the full proposed implementation here but here are the significant parts:
- Granular blocks (page, category, namespace, and file uploading) will be built on top of Special:Block. These blocks will function as if they were regular blocks and allow for the same options, but only take effect on specific pages.
- We will add a new checkbox for "Block this user from the whole site" which will be checked by default. When it is unchecked the admin will be able to specify which pages, categories, and/or namespaces the user should be blocked from editing.
- Granular blocks can be combined and/or overlap. (For example, a user could be simultaneously blocked from editing the articles Rain, Thunder, Lightning, and all pages inside the Category:Weather.)
- Only one block is set at a time, to adjust what the user is blocked from the administrator would have to modify the existing block.
- Block logs should display information about the granular block
- When a blocked user attempts to edit an applicable page, they should see a block warning message which include information on their block (reason, expiration, what they are blocked from, etc.)
- If a category is provided, the blocked user cannot edit either the category page itself and all pages within the category.
- If the File: namespace is blocked, the user should not be allowed to upload files.
We like this direction because it builds on top of the existing block system, both a technical and usability wise. Before we get too far along with designs and development we'd like to hear from you about our prosposal:
- What do you think of the proposed implementation?
- We believe this should be an expansion of Special:Block, but it has been suggested that this be a new special page. What are your thoughts?
- Should uploading files be combined with a File namespace block, or as a separate option? (For example, if combined, when a user is blocked from the File namespace, they would neither be able to edit any existing pages in the File namespace nor upload new files.)
- Should there be a maximum number of things to be blocked from? Or should we leave it up to admin discretion?
We appreciate your feedback on this project's talk page or by email. For the Anti-Harassment Tools team, SPoore (WMF) (talk) , Trust and Safety Specialist, Community health initiative (talk) 20:54, 9 May 2018 (UTC)

TVB Anniversary Awards
[edit]Hi admin, I am not forumshop (new term I learn these few days), but these Afds are really disruptive, I raised it to 78.26 at [12], as well to John at [13], I am thinking of an Rfc where people should stop these disruptive conducts at Afd. I am thinking something on the line that once (X) amount of AFD that was nominated without proper WP:BEFORE, the nominator should have a temporary nomination ban for Afd, after which if they continue, they will be permanently banned for nominating. For commenting, it must be clear that any nomination should be assessed and a !vote is not just along the lines of fails GNG, no sources, I hate and all the thousands of lame excuses, if they are repeatedly doing so, we can put them as a semi-SPA (just created to cause harrassment at Afd). For constantly (like a trend), a similar topic ban for commenting will be there and for persistent, permanent. There are also users who anyhow close / relists. Such will need to be applied. However, this will not be applied to admins and above (unless persistent, then we may need a AN / Arbcom) or NPP (the immunity given will be lower in this case). Sounds controversial but will end the whole problem plaguing Afd. In the past in 2007, how easy was it to close Afd, just simply a few days or at most one relist, now, people are making it so hard and long winded. Some food for thought --Quek157 (talk) 11:36, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Just see how many Afd (Clarify: I don't mean I have a lot of Afd, but the entire list of TVB Afd, I gave my Afd page for ease to see as I voted in almost all) on my Afd stats page [14]. sigh --Quek157 (talk) 11:41, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- I am not very active at AFD, just a couple of comments each week, and sometimes I speedy delete something, and then have to close the AFD that was active for it. I have probably seen some of this "TVB Anniversary Awards", watching it was a waste of time. Calling the AFDs "disruptive" is probably a bit excessive. Disruptive AFDs would be excessive AFDs for things that clearly should be kept. But we can allow someone to make a few mistakes without giving them a hard time about it. I prefer the simpler measures: Is Wikipedia better with this article? and Is this good for our readers? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:47, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Well I see that you are even less active at AFD. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:52, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- I just returned in 2 months for several purposes, see my edit count. And I at times commented, so not reflected. Many things changed. good, can we like Article wizard like that have a Afd wizard (in some sense) that before nominating, they will be prompted to several things before nominating. Twinkle is easy to nominate for Xfd, so all these things happen. I will cut them some slack though but having to copy and paste my arguments so many times make me a little annoyed, hope you understand. I miss the old 2007 era where everything is manual (non - automated), so it will really make people think twice whether to Afd as it is so troublesome. But less efficient in a way though --Quek157 (talk) 11:54, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

- @Hp.Baumeler: Mapcarta seems to be some sort of aggregator web site using other website's maps. It is not clear where the information comes from, so I would not count it as a reliable source. It is better than nothing, but if you can find other sources, that would be better. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:36, 17 May 2018 (UTC)

Review of peptide receptor radionuclide therapy
[edit]Thank you for recently reviewing the peptide receptor radionuclide therapy article. Although I've seen it said that the quality and importance ratings are not especially important or worth considering, I was wondering if you could help me understand the rating a bit better. I have looked at the quality scale and feel the article definitely has adequate reliable references, so in particular I'd like to understand what content is missing that would make it more complete? Clearly it is quite a general brief overview, but I didn't think there was anything major **missing** from being mentioned at all, and so I would have thought it at least 'C' quality, which still allows "missing important content or contains much irrelevant material". Thanks for any insight, Beevil (talk) 13:02, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Beevil: The page looks like a suitable overview. To get to a C rating I would expect to see at least 50% more text. Being interested in chemistry means that I want to know how those radioactive atoms are bound to the peptides. How much is this treatment used? Is it still experimental or mainstream in wide use? Other improvements (not related to start or C or B) are to cut down on abbreviations. Although you can mention "PRRT", do not use it more than once. Other abbreviations that make it hard for us readers are NET, DOTA, DOTATOC. The octreotide article claims that indium-111 can be used for imaging, but here it only mentions treatment. Also for the picture, what I see is that something like the liver has shrunk. I am probably not interpreting it the right way, so are you able to make a labelled image with the pancreas marked? The next step of a B should have some supporting items, perhaps a table of isotopes used, and another picture or two. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:44, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, that's very helpful. I will certainly make those improvements. On the abbreviations specifically, it was my understanding that after spelling it out fully and defining the abbreviation it was fine to abbreviate from then on. Otherwise PRRT is very long to write out fully every time and (in my opinion) makes sentences harder to read. Likewise NET is defined initially, while DOTA and DOTATOC I thought were better explained by their own articles (which are linked) as they are commonly referred to by only these names. Beevil (talk) 16:30, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

- "If there is an article about the subject of an acronym (e.g. NATO), then other articles referring to or using the acronym should use the same style (capitalisation and punctuation) that has been used within the main article. If no article exists for the subject acronym, then style should be resolved by considering consistent usage in source material."
- this sounds exactly like the DOTA examples. Anyway, I'll stop bothering you now and have a think about some improvements. Beevil (talk) 16:47, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello Graeme My Wikibook above has been nominated for speedy delete, coming real soon now. Are you able to nip this in the bud? I think this nomination occurred at an early stage, when the book was little more than an outline, but one never knows what will happen in this world (I have been driven away in the past). For the last six months, I have been developing w:History of broadcasting in Australia, but disliked having to cast away so much fascinating material from Trove. My intention is to develop, section by section the Wikibook material & as each section there is reasonably completed, condense it down into w:History of broadcasting in Australia and / or separate articles, such as I have just done for w:History of wireless telegraphy and broadcasting in Nauru Appreciate any assistance that can be offered, there's no point in me further developing this stuff if it is just going to be deleted. Regards--Samuel.dellit (talk) 04:25, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- @Samuel.dellit: I am no expert in Wikibooks. At the point it was tagged it was just a bunch of headings and some stuff about Nauru, so it did look like a mistake. FYI -- lists of streets
[edit]Kaya Graeme, thanks for your edits on the list of streets in nedlands. I thought I'd drop a note to let you know what is taking place. WMAU has started working with the Museum of Perth to bring its research content onto Wikipedia. The process has been broken in to three parts because of the way they store data and the people we have to do the transfers.
- bring the raw data across from one system
- incorporate the references from another system
- tidy up the text content.
- then source media files
It's then rinse and repeat for the next subject area, initially I have been working with the new contributors who are covering different segments of the process to get it under way. There will shortly be a Wikimedian in Residence taking up a position to co-ordinate the work of this project. Gnangarra 23:53, 23 May 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing this page. I had been away for two weeks and just reviewed the page status. I appreciate the editing of redundancies. I would, however, ask that you clarify why the most recent edit I made was deleted "removed because it is a copyright violation; rewrite it in your own original words." - You will find that template is used on files, mostly images. If you actually read the text of the 4.0 license it says that it cannot be down graded to earlier version of the CC license. Wikipedia uses CC-BY-SA-3.0. Copying version 4.0 licensed text and then saying it is version 3.0 licensed text is actually a kind of copyfraud. The version 4.0 text can be copied, but you cannot claim that 3.0 applies. Of course the original copyright holder may be willing to issue it under the version 3.0 license as well, but in this case it does not say that. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:19, 28 May 2018 (UTC)

- @Kristen Goldy: Please write this in your own words, as the information appears to be worth having. The text does not appear to be too promotional, which is a potential problem for copied text. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:30, 1 June 2018 (UTC)
Flight Design CT Supralight from drafts
[edit]I am just dropping you a note to let you know that I am rather disappointing that you approved moving this article from draft to mainspace. It is an extremely promotional piece, written in marketing language, based on the company website and a press release, that was written by an editor with a declared COI on his user page regarding this company and its products, and it also duplicates an existing article. Just so you know: I have redirected it to the existing article. - Ahunt (talk) 12:30, 2 June 2018 (UTC)

[edit]When you move a draft to mainspace immediately after it's declined at AfC, can you please do everyone a favour and leave the reviewer a note explaining why you disagree? I rejected this draft because the body of it, including all of the information in the infobox, is completely unsourced. Bradv 22:38, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

- When the article is declined, the auto tools don't let me simply accept straight away, so then I do a manual move, rather than resubmit first. The page was partially sourced with enough good references to show notability. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:42, 3 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Graham, appreciate accepting the Honda Australia article to Wikipedia. I'm working with Honda directly to source additional information and references to expand the content further. As this is my first Wiki article, I'm taking inspiration from the Honda India and Honda Canada Wiki pages. Any other pointers on other good example auto Wiki pages to review would be great! Hey Graeme. Marking this as unreviewed given a bit of edit warring that has arisen where there does seem to be some legitimacy that some number of these films aren't really bombs and the reference issues. I haven't waded in too much so if you did a close examination feel free to rereview.

Request not to delete The Forgotten Transition page
[edit]Dear mr Bartlett This book received a remarkable positive review of dr. prof. Thomas Wynn, director of The Center of Cognitive Archaeology at the University of Colorado Springs. It is of the same content and quality of books by many others in the same field of research (dr. Lamafouris at Oxford for one, dr. Wiktor Stoczkowsky at a university in Paris, dr. Thimothy Ingold at Aberdeen, dr. Vittorio Gallese in Parma etc.) The field is niche so I can appreciate that you have no affinite with it. These scholars, not the least, can all be references for the content of my book (and in some cases of my person). I have been contacted this morning by members of the faculty of archaeology of the university of Ghent to give an exposition on the subject later this year. Deleting this contribution would absolutely be unjustified. I would appreciate if you would read the review by professor Wynn, ask him for advice if needed. I can not react immediatly as I will be travelling the first coming weeks. I hope you show respect for fields of interest outside of your competence Kind regards John Gilbert (postdoc, University of Ghent, Belgium.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by JohnFR1946 (talk • contribs) 12:04, 15 June 2018 (UTC)
- @JohnFR1946: you can follow the instructions and remove the proposal to delete. I would suggest that you can add an introduction or lead to say what this is, and also find some more reviews. If you are the same John Gilbert that wrote the book, I would recommend that you let someone else write about it instead! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:09, 15 June 2018 (UTC)

John S. Fossey
[edit]Hi! I'm not sure why you started cleaning up John S. Fossey straight away instead of waiting the usual five days to see if the page creator wanted to rewrite it – what was the rush? Anyway, while you've certainly removed some copyvio – for which thank you! – you didn't get it all, so I've blanked the page again. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:01, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Justlettersandnumbers: I let you know that I dislike this "investigation process" as the blanking makes it hard to detect more violations. If you know there are many violations just nominate it for G12 delete. I have now deleted it, see Talk:John S. Fossey/Temp for attempted replacement for you to check out. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:16, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
- I saw – I was just replying to his/her message on the talk-page. Just for the record, if I had thought it was anywhere near G12 material I'd have nominated it as such – I listed it at WP:CP because (a) he's obviously fully notable and (b) the copyvio that I'd identified amounted to no more than 30% at the outside of the whole page (there may have been more that I'd missed, of course). Anyway, nothing's lost, the new editor can work on the temp version. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:25, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
Block criteria
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you are in the “Wikipedia administrators willing to consider placing self-requested blocks” category. I wanted to request a block. What are your criteria? T– talk contribs 10:07, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Interqwark: The criteria are that you are not under a bad cloud (ie in trouble) and that you have a good reason. Perhaps you want to study and prepare for an exam. Perhaps you are addicted and need to take a break for a week. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:10, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- Do you do indefinite blocks? T– talk contribs 10:22, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- I do that for vandalism only accounts. I don't block IPs permanently, and for you, give a reason for a decision. I see that you are planning a period of absence, which is not permanent. If you are blocked you can request an unblock on your talk page. But the reason for the block should be observed, so if for example you have an exam in September you should stay blocked till then. You may email me to give a reason also Special:EmailUser/Graeme Bartlett if the reason needs to be kept away from public view. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:29, 22 June 2018 (UTC)
- I want to be blocked indefinitely since I don’t have a period in mind. I know I can contact a sysop in case I need to be unblocked. If you don’t want to, I can ask another sysop. T– talk contribs 10:32, 22 June 2018 (UTC)

Hello Graeme Bartlett. I hope you don't mind me messaging you. I was wondering if I could have some assistance, I would really appreciate it. You recently verified an Article I created, so I thought you'd be a good person to ask. The page is this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypercharge:_Unboxed - It has been flagged for notability. I have since done some digging and found more in-depth coverage regarding the game. I have added much more references. Would it possible for you to check this and if you feel there is enough notability to remove the FLAG? That's if you have time of course. Thank you very much for your help and keep up the great work you are doing here. Falconik123 (talk) 09:39, 24 June 2018 (UTC)
Proposal for Deletion: Asian Americans in science and technology
[edit]Greetings.
Would you be so kind as to post your rationale in a related discussion at Talk:Asian Americans#Notable Contributions: Science and Technology? I make this request because I moved this content here as part of a (admittedly thin) consensus to declutter the main article. After seeing your proposal for deletion, I myself have a hard time providing a rationale. The rationale for moving was aligned to WP:PRESERVE. In a related Talk discussion, I have tried to argue for restructuring the article. This article has a history of listification, and creation of Asian Americans in science and technology was an effort to de-listify the main article. --Ishu (talk) 01:50, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
Restore deleted page with Temp Page
[edit]Hi Graeme_Bartlett,
You deleted the page John S. Fossey Thursday 21st of June. I have created a temp page Talk:John S. Fossey/Temp to replace the old, with help from Justlettersandnumbers. Hopefully, this can be posted soon. --Caibbles (talk) 16:12, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I'm glad you posted this here, Caibbles, because I'd really like Graeme's input on this. Here's what I think (sorry, I'm going to be direct): first, instead of writing new content in your own words, you copied the compromised version into the temp page and then copy-edited it; that's not OK, as it can lead to a derivative work. But the temp version is anyway not useable – it still has excessive copying from at least one source (there's no conceivable reason to write something like "secured funding from multiple organisations" instead of expressing it in your own words). That's fixable; what bothers me almost more is the unacceptably promotional tone of your text – to the point that I wonder if you have some personal, professional or financial connection with Fossey? My suggestion: make a clean start at Draft:John Fossey, and submit it for review when you think it is ready. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 21:15, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you for being so direct Justlettersandnumbers. After some consideration, based off of your comments, I am going to take a step back, re-evaluate, and do some more research. The learning curve was steeper than expected and I don't want to keep making such massive mistakes. I am going to spend more time familiarising myself with Wikipedia, making minor edits, before I attempt to create an article. --Caibbles (talk) 23:43, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
- When text is copied it often has the wrong kind of tone for Wikipedia. Promotion is a very common problem. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:03, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Northwest UU Congregation - Notability
[edit]Graeme thanks much for review of Northwest post. I am confused on how to add notability? I did note in the summary that Northwest is congregation in good standing in Unitarian Universalist Association (hyperlinked accordingly). The congregation has been a active Unitarian Universalist church for nearly 50 years with hundreds of members. Can you guide me on how to be "notable?" Appreciate your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by UU Archivist (talk • contribs) 02:04, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
- @UU Archivist: Notability is proven by having independent reliable sources with substantial content. They might be found in newspapers and magazines, or even books. This means material not produced by the organisation or its connections. You can use that to verify content though. see WP:GNG Graeme Bartlett (talk) 02:08, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
