Leftwich Award

Graeme, I noticed that you recommended for speedy deletion a proposed Wikipedia article on the Leftwich Award since its importance was not adequately addressed in the article. The Leftwich Award is important because it was envisioned and funded by H. Ross Perot to help the US Marine Corps at a time when it was having a severe problem retaining young officers after the Vietnam War. Mr. Perot (who is in Wikipedia) commissioned Felix de Weldon (also in Wikipedia) the sculptor who created the Iwo Jima Memoral (also in Wikipedia)to create a suitable trophy for this award. If you look on Mr. de Weldon's Wikipedia entry, you will note that the Leftwich Trophy is one of his creations listed on his entry. Mr. Perot and Leftwich were classmates at the US Naval Academy and close friends. Mr. Perot wanted to do something positive to improve junior officer retention for the Marine Corps and to honor his fallen classmate, LtCol Bill Leftwich who died in Vietnam while performing a heroic selfless act. For the reasons stated above, I request that you reconsider the Leftwich contribution for inclusion in Wikipedia. He was a radical student activist, yet his influence transcended to the community with a populist message. His father is the founding father and one of the leaders of the main opposition party in Zimbabwe. The Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe has destroyed the economy. The country is in hyperinflation, and is in disarray. Divine Mafa will be rejoining his father’s political party with the intention of being the next generation of leadership.

Hi Graeme, I notice that you have been working on the above article and on N aresh Sonee's article. Do you have reason to think that N aresh Sonee is anything other than a very prolific mostly self-published internet poet? The quality of his work in English seems to me to be abysmal, both poetically and argumentatively, and there are zero hits for him on google scholar or google books, which suggests that his work in English is completely ignored by the literary community. By just writing ‘N aresh Sonee’ on any search window . The pages automatically appears. For instance … All below searches are related to N aresh Sonee. Now the question is a ‘voice’ is a voice & a news is a ‘news’ . You self can raise or other raise for you. Shakesphere promoted self. Many great revolutionary leaders came out with their own news papers. Such thing -Either they come from a lay man or Benedict Pope is immaterial. Writers are writers whether they are renowned or anonymous. When a media and mass reports an information. They are for mass ears and minds to think, talk and act. When a sensational issue is raised for the betterment of the world on a whole the development or revolution may begin from a scratch. Great concerns from a ‘no man’ from alien countries should not be under estimated. If an author ignore to care Literary Communities that does not prove he is a fellow without act or art. Some poor writers don’t have money to get register with such communities. So if they can’t effort or are unable that do not prove they are nuts.

To your second question raised - Infact, Though I am an English but has strong examples to prove that English Literary Community give a rare third degree approach to third countries writers specially from place India where British once ruled. If it is not ego but otherwise. And if you speak about this queen’s language , you see when it comes to US English. It hopelessly differ from UK English. That doesn’t mean that the US or third countries writers’ ‘thoughts or information have no crucial value for Wikipedia or world.

Anarchia, The discussion may never end if we go on discussing or discouraging a non English writer of third country disqualifying his wise views which are actually novel and one of its type. Wisdom cannot be ruled out from the author in question. Poetry writing or criticizing poetry of others are two great issue need not to be debated here. I had tried once but I ended with writing none. And that promoted me to write for Sonee. He has a wonderful rhyming art of writing in self language Hindi and my mother tongue. Study on internet. On the contrary we learned people, should never ignore the fact that what all it take to learn other’s country language. Yes Anarchia it’s real hard. And this fellow I have said is a college drop out. But I have seen that in poetries he can give tuff to any English poet. Today people are appreciating Haiko and what not. Even when brilliant readers or audience don’t understand what it mean, they applaud.

Anarchia , I had have being trying to learn Hindi since nine long years but I ended no where till date. So I gave up and started improving at least my mother tongue. And that’s what we are all doing here. Giving or learning how to write or give final touch. But I am horrible in writing you know now. But I feel you greatly can understand my feeling . And that what is important. So unless one understand the rigorous pain one under go or experience while learning other’s language, one can never empathy or estimate the pain on the other side.

Dear Anarchia , leave learning other’s language but I don’t feel the shame to say that I am very bad in commanding my own language ‘my mother tongue English’. It make me hard to believe that -Graeme who once rejected and omitted my page on Sonee a year back has turned out to be an angel for me now. Even you.

However, till today I did never knew you & he or some one else appearing angels were editing my page. I was very happy un till now , when I came to know from your addressed letter above to Graeme. I request not to knock me out. It will take time , but certainly I am gathering his Hindi Poems which will be put and translated here with your good selves approval. It appear from my page that dear Graeme and your good self have edited and beautified, transformed a lot by sparing or allotting your precious time to my pages.

Anarchia, You see Needless to say Sonee is already hated by many as because the blunt issues he is raising fearlessly are enough controversial. It’s like opening a Pandora box of hatred. His life is at stake. So you will never come across Sonee’s photo anywhere. Many working behind the wikipedia itself may dislike this person if they happen to be very religious or from LGBT cult. In future too there are many chances that such communities and cults come on this page , and would criticize Sonee’s view point or subject the matter for deletion.

Few more example I wish to be amicably debated by wise Brilliant Editors concerned to Wikipedia and this I address to your good self too.

For instance, 1) In Wikipedia you come on many personal site of people who all had created their own individual name page, showing their profile etc which look more like advt. or hobby info.

2) On wikipedia seekers and searchers get information of a Hollywood individual who selfly promote, produce, direct, edit and act in own film and then list them in Wikipedia. Does this self promoter or producer require to take any university, acknowledgment as reliable source ? Needless to stamp that such people are thorough doing biz or advt.on wikipedia.Actors grow rich without noble act or cause. Unlike them Sonee is a non professionalist to promote self which wise can empathy and understand. You must have read me on his page.

3)Same reasoning of reliability goes for Messiahs and Prophets like Jesus, Ram , Mohamed, Buddha. Except one all were non English. Which reliable source can guarantee that they actually took birth ( existed) and were magical in act/or just fairy tails floated for professionalize religions ? , Can Historiography prove the existence of 1000 year past- God or God men? Can you de list or delete Jesus from Wikipedia? posing him a poor illiterate Shepard ? Was he from literary community , oxford, Cambridge or otherwise? But If you still feel Literary community is essential to stamp , acknowledge or ascertain his views. Then perhaps I can't succeed to get approval from you. However, Apart from poems or writings Sonee can be listed for great thoughts, a global thinker, philosopher, a revolutionary etc..

3) Penguin can be a private publishers and money generator for self or other on professional term . Immaterial to big or small , poor or rich , remote or world known publishers . Should all be acknowledge as reliable sources under one eye. whether they selfly publish their work or give to some one else.

4) News Papers/Media, run by private or collective individuals big or small, famous or remotely known should they be considered as reliable source? If they provide free information. I can give add their reviews and news in Hindi of various Indian news papers. I can also provide Indian HRRD Government registration number of Sonee's book in question.

Anarchie, this Letter is scribbled to your good self urgently. Please try to understand my pain or feelings of convincing you. I apologies to debate but you see I am trying to get into Wikipedia this informative exposure since more than a year. –‘Thoughts & Guts make a revolution’. People like you and me should come forward to appreciate and encourage N aresh Sonee’s contribution to the world with a big supportive heart of wisdom or generosity. Blacksmithing+hair answer

Thanks Graeme, your answer to my ref desk question seems spot on. Hair oil + alkaline ash could make soap. That would consume much of the oil in my hair, and also the soap would stick the the hair together. Also when I wash my hair after, the shampoo lathers as if my hair was already clean, then I need far more conditioner than normal.

I am being blocked from saving it as something is hitting the spam blacklist for o r k u t . c o m (spacing added to bypass spam filter). Would you decline it for me? I do find him notable, so I'll use the historicracing source plus other sources to write him an article. Thanks! Dear Greame

Ok but if i give or create a website link on news/reviews originally published on Sonee will it be enough to prove his notability, reliability? I want to say to you- no publisher declare exact sale of books in India . Small Publishers of India unlike big publishers of world rarely disclose their sales for one or other reasons of governing laws . And Greame , when a good friend like you say to write/offer a new subject on India philosophy , poets etc. for wiki. In this regard , needless to say - you too had observed the experience with wikipedia people like us have. All is very difficult here . It's self torturing & humiliating to self or for the person , place thing entitled. Years of research sem waste for wiki. i shared my info going through years of research on Indian religion or global. I came across many poet or philosophers but nothing I got substantial. All were as usual poets who are nature lovers,praising sky and moon, flowers, beloved etc. Even you come across copying philosophy of one an another. 'Code name God' has copied Sonee thoughts but person like Sonee laugh and say atleast voice are getting alert and that what he need. Very soon even you will see Sonee's suggestion will be followed concerned/suggestions to LGTB. Among philosophers and poets I accidentally came across this living person N aresh Sonee & I learnt some unique ability is there in this person unlike other professional; poets , religious care takers or philosophers he imitate none but is standing alone against them in a cult like India where his life is at threat.

Graeme, as you have suggested me to write on others' philososophers etc.. - On what ground of guarantee or time of length a person can again go or get involved for a new research Graeme Should only to convince my self that I wrote/contributed something on wikipedia- Should I leave my routine job of regular earning and do all such pain taking research for the sake of convincing myself ability in front of wiki aspiring young moody judges. I don't think they are capable , understandable, matured, reasonable enough to justify any caliber.

Writing on Wikipedia is just like writing on sea shore sand. A smallest undecent wave may ruin all of your writings. It's like children making a fort by using sand on the beach. Yes indeed , what I felt judges on wiki are recruited for their job, even a school students contribute their article or small researches and jump on any page ‘delete or raise a objection’ But I have no complaint on them too. Today they are here tomorrow they may join some BPO, call centre or softwares company. Good luck &God bless all of them. some might even join some publishing houses or become writer or editor of newspapers or become great publishers.Who know what tomorrow has kept ?. Yes many will leave when they will paid more than wiki. Good luck to them. Meanwhile, What I have come across , Almost all on wiki projects are aspiring to become editors or writers by profession. Whereas I am satisfied with my patients. I thought of doing something senseful by sharing my views on a unique person but I failed. I believe there may be hardly any editor in wiki who is a known person of any country , state, city or even a remote village. They have not written any book or never had any newspapers talking on them. Never dared to question the world openly. But their opinion on Sonee was their great acheivment and final. My efforts were deleted as their pleasure. No regret. But as I see some vole enters or checking editors are not matured like you. I wish you good luck on wiki as people like you are angel here but I felt very bad experience of self humiliation on wiki . Nothing I found constructive here . No chance for good people , good voice. LGTB or religious groups or Language , Cult bar is ruling on heads. I have come across stubbed people who are ruling 7 rolling the roost like a snake & ladder game . They tarnish images of good people who stay honest in their approach or efforts to do contribution to uplift mankind.

There are pages on professional people like Britney Spears , Pamela Anderson who contribute nothing more than their nakeness of absurd thoughts and acts to uplift the society Unlike them but people like Sonee are suppressed by rigid [[LGTB}} or religious cult. There are strange thinkers on wiki. No I don't feel to ever go in this hassle of dog fight , where constantly one has to guard the page as a faithful dog of his master’s home and see if no other dog come to bark or bite. Spiting on each other is the game on wikipedia (misusing public donation for raising professional artists or corporate houses ) . Even when my health did’nt permitted but I watched my page 24 hours. so that someone don’t come and spit on it. / destroy it without reasons. Wiki should replace their name . The name should be a engine where ‘dog constantly fights for ever’ & the winner is - who can fight more consistently & cunningly.

Graeme , of course , bias are there on wikipedia . And even you can’t dismiss this fact. This you too will also admit. Also a school boy can come on your page all of a sudden pull your legs on bias acting/posing worse than a 'big school boy' who repeat his class and show muscles on juniors, ragging on classmates who are sober. Wikipedia has become a school / college ragging centre where aspiring writers or soft tool experts want to self tag medal by writing compositions of self praise, self contributions, exhibiting self hobbies, creating self interested debate etc o otherwise. Constructions of lot of big people pages on global people are still not raised there. So many past and present pedias are missing yet.

What I felt in my process of experience with wiki- It work as a two formed gangs of angels and devils. Both are sincerely , seriously opposing each other. But I experienced only a stronger gang survive and weaker gang has no choice but to surrender. The chairpersons should change the systems of wikipedia that is the crucial need of the hour. Everyone is acting judge over one and another. I experienced , I became mad in guarding my page. My regular routine got upset. But how can I do this for ever? Well any search engine is familiar with Sonee or his work . And Graeme do you expect indymedia foolish to sustain his articles of past years.

Greame, I have no hard feeling for persons who had removed my page, But I need you to forward my voice to wikipedia chair persons. with this appeal sent to you. As wiki projects depends on donations of mass. So it should act transparently for/by/of the people. Complete democratic. Voice of people should get register. Good notable voices should not be fooled by foolish and ruled out hopelessly even when original news/review of news papers are attached to the article. Does it show sensibility of responsibility? You see from the very start Sonee page was questioned /complained/objected for one or other reasons. However I tried to cover all lame objections of every school boy questioning or joining the debate. What I judged - The stronger gang saw that the page be removed for ever. Does a person have nothing to do in life apart from controlling his raised pages on wikipedia sand where any fool or person with bias come and delete the pain taking research of some one ? Is wikipedia source of un permanent info? Graeme, why my full pages were dismiss is my humble question to wikipedia chairpersons and not their employee . At least two line of info a character or caliber like Sonee deserves? Was there no body to keep two line on this page . Was everthing rigged by me . Is Sonee not a poet ? Is he a nonsense person with nonsense voice or view , in no news ? What these wiki people want to say or establish? A world info is parted here on wiki. A contributor does research and a foolish school boy comes and add/ delete any page. Why such nonsense wiki management entertains? And a known person like N aresh Sonee on search engines or newspapers news is fully deleted by a group of unknown persons who are ‘all unknown’ and hardly contributed nothing so great other than some compositions on wiki or self websites which any school boy is eager to display.

You see LGTB community is very against of Sonee how a person of LGTB give a right judgment on Sonee? And are 5 to 10 people enough to judge N aresh Sonee’s work or name which millions of people or newspapers readers already know in India or otherwise. He has a strong presence in India . And the persons involved who deleted his page are of course in deed ‘un notable persons by any newspapers. They are no poets, no philosophers, no reformers. They can only read and criticize others' work or contribution as public does but they can’t lead to raise constructive voice which Sonee had time & again tried to done.

Wikipedia should not deny to share info of any happening of person, place, performance regardless to how small or big the info or notability is from past or present. A world wide view ( news) or vision coming from any remote place or people should have equal justice to get registered in wikipedia.

Anyway Graeme, I am not a bit disturbed by you. Your cause to delete my page in past was reasonable & you took all pain to guide me reinstall my page. I heartily thank you again. but yes as every good human might spell his mind so exactly I have done here. It’s not my out burst but a sane argument which if person who deleted my page should empathy if s/he is in my position. Administrators should not had cut all links so hurtingly at once urgently. But without investigating /verifying my news/reviews on Sonee , the administrator ruthlessly deleted it under influence of 4-5 people. Have they kept two lines over there on the person in question. I would had not raised my voice. Frustration & fighting for my democratic rights are two different issue. You can put me in any slot. It’s your view and mind. However , This might be an inspiration from Sonee to me or person like Gandhi where person has to fight his battle alone. Without dying no body can enjoy heaven. I have learnt form such people –if you are certain to certify self reasoning or common sense considering it ethically right then least care what might the world think of you. Thanks for the work you have done to screen and approve many of my AfC submissions.

I noticed that another anonymous author submitted an article about the "Maroonbook" that got rejected. First let me say that I have nothing to do with that author. However, I am curious as to why it got rejected? The source cited by the anonymous author is the Harvard Law Review--hardly an unreliable source. Might you have rejected it for a different reason, but just used the wrong rejection template? For example, was the article unsubstantiated by the source provided, or does it contain copyvio?

Finally, just out of curiosity--I take no position one way or the other--why are some of the highway redirects in Wikipedia:Articles for creation/2008-02-26 approved and others rejected? I am sure there is a good reason and I am just curious about it, that's all.

The reason for declining the maroonbook was that there was no secondary source. Only a primary source. The same organisation that produced the maroonbook also produced the reference used as a source. Although this is probably reliablem I cannot tell if it's important enough to warrant an article. Normally university notes for students would not be important enough. Tiptoey created a whole big block of the express Lanes redirects, but stopped for some reason. I checked using google to see if the name existed. In most cases the name had never been found by google, so I declined as a neologism - a new name not in use yet. In some cases the name was used for a different highway (in another state) then I declined it for verifyability reasons. Afc double-check

I was planning on posting an explanation of my double-checks on the afc wikiproject's talk page but since you prompted me I'll answer you first and then copy the post over there.

Anyway, back in january I was tackling some of the backlog and one time I accidently opened one of the days that had already been marked as completed, to my surprised the green ribbon that goes at the top of completed pages was missing. I decided to check the submissions and found two or three that could be accepted, which led me to believe that someone had wrongly marked that page as completed when it was not. I figured that if it had happened once it might aswell have happened twice or thrice so I decided to double check all of 2007's submissions. The result was that not only did I find other pages that were missing the green ribbon but also a few that had the ribbon but were not complete, and were clearly not mass moderated. (almost none of the 2007 pages were mass moderated).

After a while I kinda of standardized the process like this:

First I check for the green ribbon, if its missing then I review all the submissions that havent been accepted or declined. If the ribbon is there then I check which one it is, if its the standard one(Ie. not the mass moderated one) then I check the page to see if indeed all the submissions have been accepted/rejected. If the page has the mass moderated tag at the top then I assume that it was indeed mass moderated and move on.

Thats basically it, for the 2006's archives I expect most of them to have been mass moderated so the job will basically be checking for green ribbons. If you want to help ( and help is always welcome :D) thats pretty much all you have to do unless you have some suggestions. Cheers RIP-Acer (talk) 12:31, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

I know, I always check to see if the submissions have been manually accepted (Ie. only with the words accepted or declined and no box) What I meant by green ribbons were the ones that go atop the page when its done: {{afc c}}

nitrogenous

You answered my question on the refrance desk about nitrogenous and some of thing you said algea needed (potassium, phosphate, iron, copper, magnesium, calcium) are in food that we eat could i use food that is high in this stuff and put it in my tank (this is a seperate tank than what my fish are in so its ok if it gets dirty. You can use ammonia as a cleaning product, but if it is too strong it will kill plants. It is too strong straight out of the bottle. The same applies to dog excreta, full strength it kills plants, but diluted can be a fertilizer. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:57, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

frequentlyviewed=no doesn't work

In [2] you added {{maths rating|frequentlyviewed=no|field=|class=|importance=}}. It appears the template doesn't understand "no" but just checks for the presense of "frequentlyviewed" and adds a text.[3] PrimeHunter (talk) 01:56, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

With the parameter the template always claims "One of the 500 most frequently viewed mathematics articles", even if the article is very rarely viewed. I think that is odd. PrimeHunter (talk) 04:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

I clarified it there, and changed the template code so that if "no" is specified the parameter is ignored. But really there is no reason to specify the parameter at all; the default is "no" anyway. By the way, Graeme: when you added the maths rating template to that article, you didn't specify the class, importance, or field. Unlike other projects, the math project already has a list of mathematics articles that doesn't require tagging talk pages. The only reason to add a maths rating tag is to assign a quality, importance, and field to the article, as part of the article assessment system. So please take a second to fill in all three parameters when you add the maths rating tag. I'm not sure. I hadn't heard of either Nichollsia until I saw the news article and was searching Yahoo! for an illustrative reconstruction of the plesiosaur. I accidentally stumbled across a document about isopods and decided to add that to Wikipedia.

As far as I'm aware, the plesiosaur does not have a common name, only a scientific name. Prehistoric species (plants and animals) seem to tend not to get common names. I'm not aware of a common name for the isopod, either. I was only able to find a scientific name for it. Eighth Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers

Good morning from the States Graeme Bartlett. I noticed you declined to create an article labeled Eighth Regiment of Connecticut Volunteers submitted by 69.183.158.175 to AFC. Being brand new to this part of the project, I am unsure of the protocol for establishing an article once a decision is made. In review the piece 69.183.158.175 authored, I personally would say they did a pretty damn good job. The only thing I would add is reference material and that I was able to find. What is the procedure for establishing the article? Just cut and paste, along with adding the reference material? Of course I will credit 69.183.158.175 with all the hard work :-). Hi Shoessss, the instructions are on the top of the WP:AFC page. You are right about copy and paste into a new article with a suitable name, along with the edit summary doing the credit. Then you do wikimarkup, and add categories, interwikilinks if any and stub markers. On the talk page you also put the {{WPAFC}}</nowikki> template. If you know of a suitable project you can add it too, but usually I let others add it in unless I am a member of the project. Unfortunately most contributions do not have suitable references. Back in the original contribution page, change the decline into an accept - by changing <nowiki> the top template to {{afc top|accept}} and adding your acceptance notice - perhaps with a story how you liked it so much that you found the references. Hello Khalid. from my checking out it seemed that the academy only had a few dozen students in its history and a very tiny staff. The references that you used to support it, prove that it exists, but do not demonstrate that it is important. We need something that is not produced by the academy itself, an independent secondary reference. If you can find some references like this you can resubmit it at WP:AFC to be considered again. Hi Graeme. The Academy does not have facilitate the teaching of programmes, rather it gave and still gives scholarships for students at various British Universities. As for the references only the top one is published by the Academy, however the other two are of a sperate organisation, the Al-Maktoum Institue. Also there are various sources in Arabic, to list one:(البعد الاكاديمي والمعرفي لبيت المقدس) publisehed by Palestine Cultural Organisation in Damascus which discusses the Achivments and future directions of the work of the Academy. ��My grandfather was one of two brothers who were Jack London's landlords and among of his employers during the Autumn of 1897 and the Spring of 1898 during the Klondike Gold Rush.

The dog which was fictionalized as the novel's main character in "The Call of the Wild" was a St. Bernard/Collie which was one of ours. The dog was lent to Jack London by the Bonds for the performance of his work.

��The novel's opening scene is a description of our Santa Clara, California farm that London visited in 1901. The description of my grandfathers papers left at Yale written by Reference Librarians at Yale University are a reputable source. The business relationship between the brothers and their father is misdescribed hence confusion over ownership of the sledgedog. Marshall was Executive and Louis was there representing their father as Comptroller.

Alright so you are still not getting it. The Call of the Wild was written by Jack London about my family not only was Jack London our tenant handyman he was also writing about our dog. The only known photo of the dog acknowledged by London to be the basis of the hero of his masterpiece shows my randfather's arm wrapped around it. The only known photo of London taken in the Yukon is here in front of me.

London set up the plot line so that the dog gets stolen from us off of our farm in Santa Clara. The biographers know about our relationship with London. Get ahold of the Oxford University Press edition and look at the notes. My family and our other tenants show up in several of Jack London's works. Do you want the Londons to call you and discuss the back story. There have been ten feature length movies, one TV series, one feature length cartoon and a cartoon series all based on the novel. There is another movie yet to be made regarding what prompted the author to write the novel. My grandfather's relationship across political lines was intergral to any examination of why London wrote his best known book.

Then there are other things that MLB did but none which resulted in such reknown as to be the basis of translation into sixty languages. I will be adding those with sources but first there needs to be a Wiki page. groan Thanks

Hi Richard, I have even read the novel myself, and created the article for his father JHB. MLB does not become famous by association. If as you say Marshall Latham Bond had a major role, and appears in the book as a character then he may be considered important. I will take another look at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/2008-04-16#Marshall Latham Bond and see if this is supported.

OK I have had a look. The claim you made is that MLB owned the dog. In the source you listed I can see that Marshall existed, and from the titles of documents that some of what you say is correct, however the statement "My grandfather's relationship across political lines was intergral to any examination of why London wrote his best known book." needs to have a supporting reference, because this sounds like the deciding factor of his importance. Greek Musician Papaioannou

It looks like you created the page on the Greek Rebetika musician Papaioannou. In Greek his first name is Γιάννης which can be transliterated as Giannis (substituting the letter Gamma for G), or Yiannis, or Yannis. I'm not sure what the regular transliteration should be but the Greek "γεωγραφία" is "geography" in latin text. Perhaps there is some standard to follow. I suggest calling him Giannis as there is another Greek musician called Yiannis Papaioannou. I would change the title of the page to Giannis Papaioannou but I'm not sure how. They are the same. To add to the confusion see http://wiki.phantis.com/index.php/Yiannis_Papaioannou_(rebetika). Yet another spelling! Gail Holst in "The Road to Rembetika" refers to him as Yannis. Papaioannou's Greek recordings refer to him as Γιάννης so I guess it is a question of whether the "Γ" becomes a "G", "Y", or "I". Maybe it is something to be standardized by the Greece Wikiproject? Also I found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transliteration_of_Greek_to_the_Latin_Alphabet which says the "Γ" capital or "γ" small should be transliterated as g, except in the case of "greeklish" (writing Greek using Latin letters) where g or y is acceptable. I've made the move to Giannis Papaioannou and linked to an existing Greek Wikipedia page. I notice that there is a discrepancy as to his birthdate.
