Did you know - Cornwall Electric
Ezlev, I nominated Cornwall Electric for the Did You Know section, and had asked that it be included in early January on the Main Page to coincide with the North American Ice Storm of 1998 which occurred between January 4th - 8th 1998.
I saw that you had approved it. Not sure what is next. The discussion has been closed. Is there anything else that I need to do? Thanks! — WILDSTARTALK 03:56, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- Hi WildStar! What needed to happen happened: your hook is in Queue 2, which is scheduled to appear on the main page at on January 5 at UTC 12:00. (What happened behind the scenes is that after I approved it, your hook was placed in the special occasion holding area, letting promoters know it was meant to run in a specific time range; the promoters then did a great job of making sure that happened, which you can see in this discussion.) Congrats on the interesting article and great hook – I think it'll do well on DYK! ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 04:02, 4 January 2022 (UTC)
- Ezlev, for the uninitiated, DYK is quite the process, but I am thankful that you have been there to guide me along the way. Thank you! — WILDSTARTALK 14:07, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

- holy crap, ezlev, that's awesome! theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 01:48, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Wow, that's a lot of views – thank you, leek! This is one of the articles where it doesn't quite feel right to celebrate the hookiness (sure, I'd click on a hate symbol too if I saw it on the front page of Wikipedia, but I wouldn't be excited about it – you know what I mean). Still, this particular flag has a thought-provoking story, so I'm glad people got a chance to learn it. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 03:06, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- I wouldn't be down about it—that's what this project is all about! We find ways to grab people and reel them in, and once we've got 'em by the metaphorical balls of curiosity, we teach them interesting and substantive things! As long as we use hate symbols sparingly, well, and for excellent purposes, it only enhances DYK. Tell you what, though: the fact that nearly fifty thousand people jumped at a chance to learn about the confederacy getting comically screwed makes me feel more patriotic than I have in months—and that's counting my never-ending binge of The West Wing. Someone asked me to remove my union dixie quote on the nompage because it was a personal attack, though—i nearly died laughing. theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 11:18, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- Metaphorical balls of curiosity, huh? I like that. I liked the union dixie quote too – I thought it was a nice touch. You seem to be good at those. - Holy shit--and you did that without bacon! Drmies (talk) 16:03, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
- hmm, well, not directly? i was joking around with my friend, coming up with 50s names for our braincells (one apiece), and I plucked claudia from The West Wing for that joke. over a couple of weeks, as the braincell joke continued, i started thinking "hey, claudia's actually not a terrible name for me..." to which my friend responded "yes, it absolutely is". But I kept thinking about it, and I stuck by the idea in the end :) theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 16:09, 18 January 2022 (UTC)

- thank you :) there are lots of character GAs, but i can't find one that's super helpful for the type of article i want to create. Ned Flanders seems to be a good guide... i dunno. I'll get there theleekycauldron (talk • contribs) (they/she) 04:46, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for messaging - my intention is to get to this over the weekend, but family commitments are getting in the way. Can you give me till Wednesday next week, or is the deadline more strict than that?Vizjim (talk) 07:50, 7 January 2022 (UTC)
- Not a problem, Vizjim! The deadline isn’t very strict as far as I’m concerned - it’s more a matter of knowing you’re active and planning to get to it. Next week Wednesday is fine. Just ping me on the review page when you’ve made changes and want me to take another look. ezlev (user/tlk/ctrbs) 15:55, 7 January 2022 (UTC)

Discretionary sanctions topic area changes
In a process that began last year with WP:DS2021, the Arbitration Committee is evaluating Discretionary Sanctions (DS) in order to improve it. A larger package of reforms is slated for sometime this year. From the work done so far, it became clear a number of areas may no longer need DS or that some DS areas may be overly broad.
The topics proposed for revocation are:
- Senkaku islands
- Waldorf education
- Ancient Egyptian race controversy
- Scientology
- Landmark worldwide
The topics proposed for a rewording of what is covered under DS are:
- India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan
- Armenia/Azerbaijan
Additionally any Article probation topics not already revoked are proposed for revocation.
Community feedback is invited and welcome at Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Motions. --Barkeep49 (talk) 16:59, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
