Contacting editors

[edit]

Another possibility is to View history of an article and see if an editor or two have been actively editing recently. Then leave a note on their Talk page that you have started a discussion on the article Talk page. If article shows little recent activity, then just start editing the article. This may elicit reactions by editors who Watch the article even though they have not recently edited. David notMD (talk) 17:03, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Help me!

Please help me with... Hello, I created a new article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Deutsch Hans Deutsch but it doesn't seem to appear in searches, and I can't seem to link it to the German language version https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hans_Deutsch_(Rechtsanwalt). I created in draft then moved it. Have I made a mistake or is there something else I should do? thank you. Hi Eli185, re [1]...thank you so much for your research and contribution, but having though it over, think the material is better suited to a new stand-a-lone new article rather than all in the bio. Such a new article is something I very much look forward to seeing; you have pretty much already written it, and once its there, we can, in the spirit of wiki's summary style, link back to it on the bio. Max Emden moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Max Emden, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. Definitely notable, but English WP requires sourcing to meet WP:VERIFY. If left in mainspace, most of the article could be deleted, since it is uncited. I felt it better to move it to draft so that you could work on the sourcing. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. [edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Eli185! Your additions to Max Emden have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:16, 27 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moving two articles

[edit]

Hi Eli185, I've taken the liberty of moving two of your recent article creations to more appropriate titles. The pages affected are:

—With the exception of proper nouns, disambiguating particles should be in lowercase
—No need to disambiguate here, as (unlike dewiki) we have currently only one Fritz Nathan on this project

Gerling-Konzern

[edit]

Hi — regarding your recent article Gerling-Konzern, I wanted to ask two things:

  1. The article name has 'Konzern' in it, but the article then goes on to call it by the English 'Gerling Group'. I'm assuming it was known as the latter in international contexts, and therefore a user of the English-language wikipedia would probably search by that name. In which case, I would suggest moving this to Gerling Group. Or what do you think?
  2. While the sources look pretty solid, large sections of the article are unsupported by citations. I was tempted to move this to the draft space so that you can add more cites, but I thought I'd ask you first what your intentions were?

Thanks, --DoubleGrazing (talk) 12:08, 26 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the comments. I don't really have an opinion concerning Gerling Konzern versus Gerling Group. I favor whichever is the clearest when trying to document the history of the various subsidiaries and mergers. Either is ok as long as both point to the Wikipedia page.

Concerning the parts of the text without sources, they are holdovers from the German. I'll look for sources today and remove whatever text I can't source. Please don't move the article. Will be fixed ASAP.

Comments to improve quality always appreciated. Eli185 (talk) 08:43, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Eli185: When translating an article from another Wikipedia, it needs to have a trans tag added to the talk page, on here. I would suggest you put one in. It is normal practice. scope_creepTalk 19:07, 10 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Oskar Reichel requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. scope_creepTalk 20:40, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed this tag (A7 is for articles like "Bubbles is my pet cat etc. etc.") and added some citations to books I found. Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs

[edit]

Thank you for your recent articles, including Oskar Reichel, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. This can be also done through this helpful user script: User:SD0001/DYK-helper. Let me know if you need help, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:35, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the "Installation" section in the linked script. If you follow it, after you refresh the page in the browser you should have a new option in the pull down menu, which will display a form you can fill to nominate your article. You can also do it manually following the instructions at WP:DYK but I find the script much friendlier (once installed). Do let me know if you run into technical troubles. WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

[edit]

Thank you for your recent articles, including Oskar Reichel, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Thanks to them, WikiProject members are more easily able to defend your work from deletion, or simply help try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information about using those talk page templates. Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:35, 16 November 2021 (UTC) Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 10:35, 16 November 2021 (UTC) Thank you for the suggestions. I'll try to add them. Is there a list of projects I should add? (If so, I'll add it to my user page for quick reference) Can I add more than one project? Thanks again! @Qwerfjkl: Which New York Times reference do you consider to be problematic as a source and for what reason?

Is there are problem with: A Nazi Legacy Haunts a Museum’s New Galleries https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/11/arts/design/kunsthaus-zurich-buhrle-collection.html  ?

'In his book, Keller voices misgivings about the foundation’s research, calling the provenance reports on its website “a filter which withholds decisive facts.” He cites an 1879 Cézanne work, “Paysage,” as an example. The foundation’s website doesn’t mention that its prewar owners, Martha and Berthold Nothmann, were Jewish; it says the couple “left Germany in 1939,” instead of spelling out that they fled persecution.'

Review of a translation into English

[edit]

Hello Eli185,

as a German native speaker I recently wrote an article in the German WP about the painter and graphic artist de:Willi Sandforth. I then translated it into English. This version can be found here: User:Gisbert_K/Willi_S

Unfortunately my knowledge of English is not good. Therefore, the text may contain errors and inadequacies with regard to the use of the English language.

I have seen that you are, among other things, the author of the article Emil Nolde in the English WP, so you know something about the subject. Therefore, I ask you to take a look at the draft of my intended English article and correct it where necessary. If you think it is appropriate, you can shorten the article. Many thanks in advance.

Your recently created article is a rough translation from German Wikipedia. Please do not translate unless you are efficient in the language you're translating from. Also, you did not attribute the translation. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 17:30, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know the copyright, but this photo is small, low resolution and used this one time. Is there a "fair use" tag? Thank you. Eli185 (talk) 03:01, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eli. I was just wondering about the article Arnold Baumgarten as part of it seems like a direct translation of one of the sources [2]. Is that content in the public domain, or do we otherwise have permission to use it? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 08:48, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll rework it. Eli185 (talk) 05:50, 25 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Michel Pontremoli

[edit]

Hello Eli185, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Michel Pontremoli, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michel Pontremoli.

Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Clearfrienda}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Ways to improve Nancy Wiener

[edit]

Hello, Eli185,

Thank you for creating Nancy Wiener.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

This is an interesting topic. Please use your cited references to expand the page (how her crimes were discovered, subsequent trials, co-conspirators, notable heists/forgeries, etc.), as it clearly has the potential to be a good article.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Trainsskyscrapers}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.
