Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Wanaaring, New South Wales, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page European (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Graddle, New South Wales requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Machine translation

[edit]

Hello. I'm looking at the translation into English that you're creating at Abbey of Saint-Martin d'Autun. I appreciate your attempt to add information to English Wikipedia, but I can see that the English content you're adding is identical to the translation produced from the French article fr:Abbaye Saint-Martin d'Autun by Google Translate. Please see WP:MACHINETRANSLATION and do not use a machine translation. Automated translation is far from reliable, and can produce poor translations that can lead to misunderstandings or incomprehensible content.

In this case, for example, "The ancient abbey of the origins" at the start of the second paragraph is meaningless, and the following words "had to survive until 1740" are not what the French text says. The sentence from the French article, "L'antique abbatiale des origines a dû subsister jusqu'en 1740", would more properly be translated as "The original church must have survived until 1740." And that's just an example. Largoplazo (talk) 22:13, 1 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I see in a recent addition to Parish of Nocoleche, New South Wales and Nocoleche Nature Reserve you included material from a webpage that is available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. I've added the attribution for these two articles. Please make sure that you follow this legal requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa 🍁 (talk) 11:16, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Waverley Council Parish, New South Wales requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Implausible redirect (probably due to cut and paste error): there is no "Waverley Council" in this part of NSW, and none of the four parishes called "Waverley" are in Waverley Council. No one would ever search for this title looking for a place in far-western NSW.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.

Machine translations - please stop

[edit]

Your enormous industry is admirable but please stop creating machine-translated articles from French Wikipedia: they are virtuslly useless as they stand and it is a huge amount of work to bring them up to standard, all the more so as the original French articles are often not up to our standards. Domnus of Stridon

[edit]

Hi. I'm reading the article of Domnus of Stridon and according to Gelzer's Patrum Nicaenorum nomina there seems to be an error since there is no evidence that Domnus of Stridon as such has ever existed or appeared on the First Council of Nicaea. The index of council fathers lists only Budius of Stobi (probably missread as Stribon; see pages XLIV, 56 and 247) and Domnus of Pannonia, listed directly after him. --Janezdrilc (talk) 21:50, 29 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

June

[edit]

Hey, can you please create parish articles at "Parish of [Name]" in future, as was agreed when Australian editors discussed it at WP:AWNB? I've never seen such a colossal naming mess as there is with parishes, with something like fifteen different naming conventions being used completely at random. This gets extremely confusing. I've been trying to clean it up but it's very difficult if you're rolling out new articles at god-knows-how-many different titles as fast as I can sort the mess out.

Also - please don't redirect gazetted localities to different gazetted localities, like you did at South Lismore, New South Wales. That just creates another confusing mess for someone to have to untangle later on. The Drover's Wife (talk) 12:55, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, can you please stop claiming that cadastral parishes are localities unless they actually are? You've introduced hundreds of articles with incorrect information so far. The Drover's Wife (talk) 13:02, 12 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks so much for your work. Please note that there are some easily avoidable issues, particularly overcapitalising and overlinking. Common terms, dates, years, well-known places, are not usually linked.

NSW might be followed by ", Australia", since many international readers won't be familiar with the state.

Hi. Thank you for working to improve the Breen article with your recent edit, but I have reverted it, since it lacked a citation. As I'm sure you must know by now, since you've been editing Wikipedia for some time, Wikipedia requires that the material in its articles be accompanied by reliable, verifiable (usually secondary) sources explicitly cited in the article text in the form of an inline citation, and I didn't notice a citation in your addition. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Battle of Spicheren. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Battle of Spicheren. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Jmertel23 (talk) 18:16, 24 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Guillaume Bonnet moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Guillaume Bonnet, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. • You were warned. This is an ongoing and serious violation--you are essentially taking other people's work and publishing it here as if it were your own ("cre8te stub"). I could have blocked you temporarily, but you chose not to respond to my warning or my edits in the first place, and so you show no indication of actually wanting to conform to our policies. Drmies (talk) 02:36, 24 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies: Not giving in-wiki attribution is not a very serious offence, in my experience. Where does it say that not giving such attribution is an indef block offence? Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia doesn't contain any warning that not following this editing guideline can lead to a block. D A R C 12345 should be following it, but TBH, if he is not, IMHO it is not a bannable offence, just an annoyance for us more experience editors. I'd ask you to reconsider your block; D A R C 12345 has created a lot valuable (if malformatted, etc.) content that is nonetheless useful. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 08:15, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Piotrus, I appreciate your advocacy and I hope that the editor is reading this. They're not banned, they're just blocked, and as far as I'm concerned all they have to do is say "I won't do it again/I'll give proper attribution". And I think it is more than a little annoyance--first of all, it takes a bit of experience to figure out where they got the stuff from. Second, the page you linked says "If material is used without attribution, it violates the licensing terms under which it has been provided..." But besides that, I hope you know I don't go around just dropping a block for the hell of it, and of course this editor has done some good work. But if you look up the talk page you will see that this isn't the first time that the editor has been warned for related things, and they've never even responded, so we do have a kind of a pattern here. D A R C 12345, if you're listening, it really doesn't take much for you to get this block lifted, but you'll have to a. start communicating and b. follow the rules. Thank you Piotrus. Drmies (talk) 15:28, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User:Drmies: I think it is fair enough to have them reply here with a comment or promise to be more careful. Let's hope they are indeed reading this.--Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 09:17, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, D A R C 12345. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Guillaume Bonnet".

@Drmies: This was a great user who made it possible for me to know who Mashrab was, and I hope we free the user from this insane indefinite block one day. If the user makes the same mistakes again, just block the user again. Thanks for your work D A R C 12345. Geographyinitiative (talk) 14:03, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

This user was productive and made it possible for me to learn about Mashrab, a Central Asian literary figure. I suggest relaxing the indefinite ban on this user- give the user one more chance. Geographyinitiative (talk) 14:09, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Procedural decline only, unblock requests must come from the user themselves, not a third party. 331dot (talk) 14:10, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

I would like to encourage D A R C 12345 to make this request. Geographyinitiative (talk) 14:13, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Geographyinitiative You can certainly do so, but it's up to the user. Copying without attribution is a serious matter that potentially puts Wikipedia in legal jeopardy, which is why it needed to be dealt with in this manner. The user will need to convince an administrator that they understand why they are blocked and what steps they will take to avoid the problematic behavior. 331dot (talk) 14:32, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Geographyinitiative, I thought my comments above, in my attempt at communication with the user, were clear enough: the editor showed, unfortunately, no interest whatsoever in abiding by the most basic of rules. If they had, they would have been unblocked already and they would have been a great contributor, no doubt. Drmies (talk) 18:36, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies: Indefinite block would be a good idea in theory if the human being was such that they could never change their behavior. But the fact is that we can all change and grow. This person was making useful additions to the enclyopedia, and I hope we can find a way to give this person another chance, now that the user has already been blocked for so long. Obviously the encylopedia can't include copyrighted content. But indefinite block is not wise in the case of a person making useful content. I would say temporary bans are definitely good, or the ban of a year's time or so would be more appropriate in this case. But an indefinite block on a useful editor is barbarism. Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:16, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, the user can always be banned again if there is a relapse into unacceptable behavior. Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:18, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No. The user isn't banned, they are blocked. They will not be unblocked and then blocked again unless they indicate, themselves, that they will at least make a shred of an effort to improve their behavior. And no, they were not making useful additions to the encyclopedia if these additions are copyright violations. And sorry, but I don't need you to tell me what's wise and what's unwise. Drmies (talk) 00:23, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Take note the last comment, and be very aware the editor was very disruptive across a range of basic wikipedian principles - and is not welcome to return in view of extensive disruptive creations in parts of wikipedia. JarrahTree 00:33, 31 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
