Indian actors stubs
Hello Jim, hope you're doing well. I had come across two Indian actors stubs that had been reviewed, Shweta Gautam & Manish Khanna. Prior to them being reviewed it was sourced with non reliable sources and surprisingly passed the notability and review check.
These two articles were created by some new pages reviewer, I guess so. I believe these two should be moved to draft space as they lack enough citations and probably fail enough notability from reliable sources. Most of them have a common publication as a source that's Times of India which itself is not reliable.
I wanted to draftify these articles myself but I assumed that these actions are probably done by the AFC reviewers, I'm not sure. Do let me know what you think about it. Thanks ✠ Rejoy2003 ✠ (contact) 07:14, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Rejoy2003. Those are very poor quality articles and the Times of India, despite its impressive name and its origin going back to 1838, is not a reliable source. They sold their journalistic souls, it seems. The problem is that as a Californian, I do not know what the reliable sources are for Indian actors. As for draftifying, that is controversial these days, so I recommend caution. I think that you need to seek out advice from an experienced editor familiar with contemporary entertainment in India, but I am not that person. I wish that I could be more helpful. Good luck. - Fair enough, Thanks for your reply Jim. ✠ Rejoy2003 ✠ (contact) 10:04, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
FTX people
When I get a chance to fill out the paperwork, I will probably place BLP page-level restrictions on biographies associated with FTX, since I can see the wave building already. Acroterion (talk) 13:38, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Acroterion. That's a good plan. Thanks. Cullen328 (talk) 17:09, 18 November 2022 (UTC)
- For now I think I'll leave it be. We'll see what the weekend brings, I don't see evidence right now that any 1RR or similar restrictions are needed. Acroterion (talk) 02:58, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Is it worth you blocking User:VinnyHMI HopeMedia Italia RVS Radio Voce della Speranza di Villa Aurora FIRENZE in the meantime? Thanks, Knitsey (talk) 22:34, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Knitsey. I will let SPI take care of those. The other one was a clear username violation. I wish that the software would throttle such ridiculously long usernames. Thanks for trying to deal with this. Cullen328 (talk) 22:42, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Anti-Defamation League - contention over the word contention
HI Cullen
I noticed some contention over the word contention
"The Anti-Defamation League was founded by B'nai B'rith as a response to attacks on Jews; the then recent contentious conviction of Leo Frank was mentioned by Adolf Kraus when he announced the creation of ADL."
When I drilled down to Leo Frank the entry described the situation as a "travesty"
Generally, I would just say that more than one word needs to be changed to provide context..
Regards Flibbertigibbets (talk) 19:25, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- I am going to effect a change to the article to include; to provide context.
- "discussing the charges of antisemitism in the trial"
- Regards Flibbertigibbets (talk) 19:46, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Flibbertigibbets. I blocked the other editor as a racist troll. Cullen328 (talk) 19:48, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- He seemed very focused on a topic.. I was looking to learn about addressing problem edits and that is how I found him, so I was trying a light approach by talking stuff out with him. So thanks!
- After the troll, I tried to improve article readability because the sentence did not tell me anything useful;
- "The Anti-Defamation League was founded by B'nai B'rith as a response to attacks on Jews. The conviction of Leo Frank for murder of a 13 year old, with allegations from the press that antisemitism contributed to his conviction, was mentioned by Adolf Kraus when he announced the creation of ADL."
- Anyway, let me know if I can help you in any way! I am learning as I go, and learning from folks like you who are very experienced and important to Wikipedia! Flibbertigibbets (talk) 19:57, 20 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you, Flibbertigibbets. Just keep working to improve the encyclopedia. Cullen328 (talk) 20:00, 20 November 2022 (UTC)

ChanceTheWrapper
I was mulling over the user account ChanceTheWrapper when I notice you blocked it. I don't believe the block rationale was correct. It's clearly a parody of the name "Chance the Rapper", and such a variation does not violate the username policy. The user is not pretending to be a well-known person. The account has not been disruptive. Please reconsider that block, unless you know something that I have missed. ~Anachronist (talk) 04:49, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Anachronist. If the username is
clearly a parody
, then why wasn't it clear to me? It is a soft block. The user can select a username that causes no confusion, or confirm that they are actually the famous rapper. Should we allow usenames like "Mike Penis" or "Donald Drumpf" or "Nancy Pissoir" or "Camel Harris" because they are "parodies". I think not. WP:BLP is the overriding policy. Cullen328 (talk) 05:00, 23 November 2022 (UTC)- I have no idea why it wouldn't be clear to you. It isn't an offensive parody either, like ones you listed. We have others here who are decent editors, like Shaquille Oatmeal. If the distinction between the real person's name and the parody isn't clear, then the situation could be solved simply by asking the user to put a disclaimer on the user page, such as ItsKesha did, for example. Again, I see no violation of the username policy, and don't feel comfortable with forcing a user to choose between remaining blocked or changing a name that isn't violating any rule. ~Anachronist (talk) 05:08, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- Anachronist, according to our Wikipedia:Username policy,
Usernames that impersonate other people
are not allowed. I routinely block usernames that violate policy. If you want to argue that this username does not impersonate another person, then please feel free to make that argument at the noticeboard of your choosing. Again, this is a soft block, and the editor has an exceptionally easy path to returning to editing. Cullen328 (talk) 05:23, 23 November 2022 (UTC)- As for User:Shaquille Oatmeal, they made 150 edits and retired 3-1/2 years ago, so that is hardly a compelling case. Cullen328 (talk) 05:28, 23 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Anachronist I agree by the way. Enforcing rules so strictly, disproportionate to their necessity, drives potential editors away. Frogging101 (talk) 17:43, 24 November 2022 (UTC)
- Frogging101, the account was renamed and unblocked the same day, and has resumed editing their draft. So they weren't driven away at all. Cullen328 (talk) 18:10, 24 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello Jim, sorry to bother you again. I had some questions regarding an edit by some editor. I haven't really gotten much help from the Helpdesk. But could you help me answer my questions here? Wikipedia:Helpdesk#November 19. Thank you ✠ Rejoy2003 ✠ (contact) 04:23, 21 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hello, Rejoy2003. I suggest that you ask your question at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard. Cullen328 (talk) 05:53, 21 November 2022 (UTC)

- Hello again, Lord Alan B'stard. I last worked on that article 12 years ago. Did you look at the version when I last edited it? I see that you gutted the article instead of improving it. In my opinion, that is not how an encyclopedia editor working on a collaborative project should operate, but clearly you see things differently. Please carefully consider the implications and possible consequences of your actions. Cullen328 (talk) 02:31, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, I did look at the version you edited, up until it was around 6 kB in size by your edits. It was substantially similar to the present version. I was not satisfied. So, I boldly WP:BRD excised most of it and placed messages on your talk page as well as on the article talk page. I also respect you for educating me about the importance of reliable independent sourcing, especially for low quality sourcing relating to Indian topics. - Lord Alan B'stard, you are doing two things that are not acceptable on Wikipedia. You are claiming expertise and authority that cannot possibly be verified. And you are talking about alleged reliable sources that you have not brought forward for other editors to scrutinize. I need you to explain, in detail, at Talk:Kalpataru Day why the references in that article needed to be removed wholesale, and why the book Kali's Child: The Mystical and the Erotic in the Life and Teachings of Ramakrishna published by the University of Chicago Press is such a poor source that it cannot possibly be used on Wikipedia. "Controversial", after all, is not a synonym for "unreliable". So, your explanation needs to be really good. If I was in your shoes, I would be working to improve your draft instead of trying to pick a fight with an editor who has been trying to help you. But you can roll how you want to roll, and you can accept the consequences. Cullen328 (talk) 04:32, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Problem with an user
Hello Cullen. It's me, HHH. If you remember, I had a problem back in August with another user. Later, I complained about him talking on my back. Months later, the same user stills talking on my back, with some personal attacks. One user said he felt harrased by him. Then, I said I also feel harrased by his comments. Then, he talked with other user since November, mocking us [2] with coments like " feeling "attacked and harassed" because people aren't letting them get away with bullying behaviour." "compensating for something offline.", "What is maturity, right?". The other user, Addicted4517 , warned about his coments, but his anwer was to insult and mock him again ("Grow up." ). [3] I know tham my past comments were wrong, but you said harrasement is no tolerated here. Two users said how we felt with these kind of comments and we have been dealing with this kind of comments for months. There is something you can do? At least, a warning or something? HHH Pedrigree (talk) 10:11, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- As I explained previously, our problems with the user is that he uses social media, like Twitter, Instagram or pictures for sourcing or just WP:SYNTH (watched the show and took conclusions with no sources). Addicted and I usually ask him for sources and remove the informacion, since Social Media is not allowed for sourcing. Then, he accuses us of bullying and WP:OWN. With the Impact personnel, he wanted to include information with a picture as source, Addicted said a picture is not valid as source. His answer, 10 accusation of WP:OWN. It's not our fault he includes information with no sources. But the problem is not about pro wrestling (I know how admins feels about the subject) but his comments about us. --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 10:16, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hey Cullen,
- If you want the actual version of the story, this really seems to stem from two people who think they have free reign around her getting pushback and not knowing how to handle it. The user HHHPedrigree is posting on behalf of, Addicted4517 has a history of WP:OWN behaviour and ignoring Wikipedia policies to get his way. His entire edit history consists of undoing edits on the same four or five articles. Rather than help users add to them and find better sourcing, he simply dives in and undoes their edits. The only reason he has engaged in this behaviour on the List of Impact Wrestling personnel page is because he followed me over from the NZWPW page where he refused to let anyone change the company's status to closed because he personally hasn't seen proof.
- Now, this latest little issue has stemmed from Addicted following up on his behaviour from several months ago, trying to argue against WP:Twitter and remove the entire referees section without discussion. After his edit was undone and discussion was had, Addicted wouldn't gracefully accept defeat and move on. HHHPedrigree doesn't understand what harassment is, considering he and Addicted are now trying to discuss my "demise" on Addicted's talkpage like a pair of pantomime villains.
- This is just a continuation of a personal vendetta from two people who don't like being told they're wrong. Nothing more, nothing less. SkylerLovefist (talk) 17:07, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- As I explained, many of his editions are WP:OR or WP:SYNTH, that's the reason why are removed. However, he thinks it's WP:OWN and bullying him. Another example, Talk:List of Impact Wrestling personnel#A consultant is not a member of the executive, Lou D'Angeli was included as Vice President of Marketing. The source used, his Twitter bio, that reads "Las Vegas via Philadelphia. Marketing. Music. Hockey. People. Places. Things. Logitix/Vegas Guy -@impactwrestling Former #ECW -@WWE- @Cirque" Addicted and I tried to explain that this is WP:OR, since it's not mentioned Vice President of Marketing, but they insisted that's a fine source. The ifno is removed, since it's unsourced, and they claimed we are bullying them and WP:OWN the article. [4] Again, the issue is not the scripted nature of wresting, but WP:OR --HHH Pedrigree (talk) 17:25, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- HHH Pedrigree and SkylerLovefist, I think that everyone involved in this needs to act like collaborative encyclopedia editors instead of pretending to be online wrestlers with the grudges and the vendettas and the posturing. Focus on what is best for the encyclopedia. A comment like "grow up" is not a good idea, but it does not rise to the level of a personal attack that needs to be reported to an administrator. We should never think in terms of "accepting defeat". Work together instead. Always remember that pro wrestling is a scripted imitation of a sport. It is not real. Cullen328 (talk) 17:23, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- I can appreciate that, but trying to improve the website (in my case, frequently that one particular article is what I'm aiming at. And myself and several other users work harmoniously to fix it, along with aiming at discussing things more and being diplomatic. My issue at the end of the day is, as I say, the WP:OWN behaviour, the inability to use WP:COMMONSENSE. I'd be more than happy to work with HHHPedrigree and Addicted4517 if they were willing to work with, rather than against others. A significant majority of conflict on said articles comes from these two. And that's the crux of my issue.
- Either way, thank you for your time. SkylerLovefist (talk) 20:39, 11 December 2022 (UTC)

John Gaeta
This is John Gaeta and I am reaching out because of your effort to repair and remove the hate speech from my page. For that Im very grateful. And there was a lock on editong put in place which I thought was going to remain in place .. but it seems to have been removed. I am very worried about that because I have a sense of where this vandalism may have come from and I am actively trying to alert authorities toward this unstabile person. Please check to see if your lock was removed and if so please put it back. I do not think this is the end of this disturbed persons presence on wikipediia. Also, I am trying to determine if I can get access to the materials removed (screen grabs) so I can show the police. Thank You Yensiwtlad (talk) 03:02, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

- Yensiwtlad, I have semi-protected the article in question until December 27, and nothing has changed there. If disruption resumes, the protection can be extended. Recent edits removing poorly referenced and inappropriate content have been made by a highly experienced editor acting in good faith, and trying to bring the article into compliance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Wikipedia has some very strict standards about what can be included in a biography of a living person. So, you need to distinguish between actual vandalism and proper edits. Every article has a history that includes every previous version of the article. You or the police or anyone else can review the edits at any time, except for nine specific edits that contained defamatory material that was suppressed to protect you and your reputation. You will need to contact the legal department of the Wikimedia Foundation to see what your options are regarding the defamatory content that has been suppressed. That decision was made by people with more advanced permissions than I have, and I have no power to alter it in any way. Cullen328 (talk) 07:15, 16 December 2022 (UTC)

Double bourbon on the rocks
I was sipping a glass of Rabbit Hole whiskey this evening, and thought back to your reaching out at the end of my RFA. Just stopping by to thank you for the kind words, and to recommend Rabbit Hole if you ever see it. Very smooth with a long charcoal finish. Highly recommended. In fact, I think I may have another pour myself. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 01:32, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for stopping by, ScottishFinnishRadish. I do not remember exactly what I said but I am very pleased that you remember it as kind. I will look around for Rabbit Hole, but I have to admit that I am kind of a cheapskate regarding adult beverages. When I am at an event where other people are paying for the booze, I love sampling the expensive stuff. The stories I could tell about various events in the Napa Valley where I lived for 30 years. And when we have visitors, I will buy the moderately expensive stuff. But on a day to day basis, reasonably priced mass produced American blended whiskey is what I drink for relaxation. They call it "a handle" at the local liquor store. I just polished off my second pour of the evening, while writing this reply. Happy Holidays! Hanukkah starts in 23 hours. Time to polish up the brass menorah that my wife fabricated in her college metalworking class 50 years ago. Cullen328 (talk) 02:03, 18 December 2022 (UTC)
- I normally drink fairly inexpensive bourbon, or Black Velvet Canadian whiskey, always purchased by the handle. Once in a while though I'll buy a fancy bottle, or my in-laws will buy me a bottle. I tend to exchange expensive bourbon with my father in law at the holidays.
- As far as cheaper bourbon goes, years ago when my wife and I were just dating she bought me a three liter oak cask that I keep filled with cheaper bourbon. The oak really mellows it out and makes it much more sippable.
- Happy holidays to you as well, hope you have a great Hanukkah. One of my fondest childhood memories is taking part in a bit of Hanukkah celebration at a friend's house when I was in second grade. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 02:18, 18 December 2022 (UTC)

I cannot even determine your email address unless we were to have a conversation by email. There is a very small group of highly trusted people who could learn more about you in an extreme situation. requesting a wikipedia page for a particular person of notable interest
Hello Jim, I'm sure you've answered this question many times, but I couldn't locate it. My husband has a 45+ year career as a visual artist. He has had a LOT of things written about him even by the BBC, is in museums, the British National Library has chronicled his career, he has a long track record, etc, etc. He has over 100K Insta followers as well as a large following on FB & Linkedin. We have had a number of people ask why they can't find him on wiki. I know it is frowned upon to start a page with a COI, but is there anyway to just START it, then allow others to edit and add to it? I wouldn't want to get a ban right off the bat! Or is there a process to ask an editor to review his career and make the judgement about whether it should have a wiki entry? Any advice would be welcomed, and I do apologize if this contact is not welcomed or is against the wiki rules. kindest regards. 217.155.196.242 (talk) 17:56, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hello. Based on the little bit you have told me, your husband may be notable person, and therefore eligible for a Wikipedia biography. WP:CREATIVE is the shortcut for standards for creative professionals. The BBC, museum and BNL stuff sounds promising. The social media stuff is irrelevant and of no value. It is extremely difficult although not impossible for a spouse who is inexperienced with writing Wikipedia biographies to write an acceptable draft. You have to figuratively "forget" everything you know about your husband through your personal relationship, and confine yourself to summarizing what independent, reliable published sources have written about him. You will need to write in a rigorously neutral fashion.
- If you want to proceed, here are your first steps: Open a Wikipedia account and declare your conflict of interest on your user page. Read and study Your first article and familiarize yourself with the Articles for Creation process. Learn what Reliable sources are on Wikipedia. Then, send me links to the very best three reliable sources that devote significant coverage to your husband's life and career. I will then give you additional advice. It is good that you are asking these questions at the beginning. Cullen328 (talk) 18:49, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Hall & Oates
Hi Jim. Would you mind watching Hall & Oates for a bit just in case Danzigthecat tries to move the page again. I've also posted about this at WP:AN#Hall & Oates, but thought I'd ask you as well since your an admin. I did post something at User talk:Danzigthecat#Hall & Oates page move to try and explain why I reverted the move and offer them suggestions on how to proceed, but I can't tell whether this was just a coincidence, a case of an accidental WP:LOGGEDOUT or an attempt to appear to create more support for the page move. I'm hoping it's a case of the former and not the latter, and the page won't be boldly moved again since doing so is almost certainly going to be contentious. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:13, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Weekly World News
Ah, that brings back fond memories of the checkout lines of my past! You're right, printing anything true was definitely not on their agenda. I remember seeing a front-page photo of an "East German" woman, grievously injured in a car crash, with a printed circuit board peeking out of her lacerated scalp. Commie mind control! They never needed grammar or punctuation fixes, though. Ever. Thx for the memories.-- Quisqualis (talk) 22:53, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
