[edit]Dear editor, welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your recent contributions. I would like to ask you, however, to format your new articles according to Wikipedia style and include links to other articles in your new additions. Also, you might want to add stub tags to smaller articles, making it easier for other editors to find and improve your new additions. Happy editing! ---Cpt. Welcome!
[edit]Welcome! I noticed your comment on Saint Caesarius of Arles. Many of Wikipedia articles are taken without much updating from much older encyclopedias. Sometimes that means that they are actually very outdated. I always take any article which says that it was taken from the Catholic Encyclopedia or the 1911 Encyclopedia Brittanica (sp) with a very large grain of salt, especially if it hasn't been edited much by other people. If you have the resources and will to fix up such articles, you are encouraged to. Frankly, I find these articles to be very frustrating, since sometimes they contain very outdated information, and information which is presented as fact which is little better than myth. You'd be helping Wikipedia and other curious people if you could update articles. I hope you enjoy your time here, and feel free to ask me any questions you might have. R G C Levens
[edit]You have recently re-created the article R G C Levens, which was deleted in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policies. Please do not re-create the article. If you disagree with the article's deletion, you may ask for a deletion review. --stephenw32768<talk> 19:48, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
SEERI has been proposed for deletion. An editor felt this organization or company might not yet be notable enough for an article. Please review Wikipedia:Notability (companies and corporations) for the relevant guidelines. If you can improve the article to address these concerns, please do so.
If no one objects to the deletion within five days by removing the prod notice, the article may be deleted without further discussion. If you remove the prod notice, the deletion process will stop, but if an editor is still not satisfied that the article meets Wikipedia guidelines, it may be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion for consensus. I came across this article while Wikifying today, and saw your comments on the talk page about notability. I didn't put the notability tag on this article, but my guess is that it's there because the article is extremely short (only two sentences) and not referenced. If you have more material on the subject, please add it (and cite your sources). RedRollerskate 05:20, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
A tag has been placed on P g westlake, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you plan to expand the article, you can request that administrators wait a while for you to add contextual material. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}}
to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. ArglebargleIV 19:12, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

Little context in Bishop of Raphoe
[edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bishop of Raphoe, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bishop of Raphoe is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bishop of Raphoe, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. [edit]Clive, can you take a look at Wikipedia style? The additions you're making to Bishop of Raphoe and other articls are useful, but it would also help if you could format your text so that it fits with the style of the article and Wikipedia editing standards -- thanks!!! -- ArglebargleIV 11:40, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Gwynno james
[edit]A tag has been placed on Gwynno james requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. αѕєηιηє t/c 14:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia! I noticed that you recently added commentary to an article, John Morgan (bishop). While Wikipedia welcomes editors' opinions on an article and how it could be changed, these comments are more appropriate for the article's accompanying talk page. If you post your comments there, other editors working on the same article will notice and respond to them and your comments will not disrupt the flow of the article. Thank you. Restoration of John Morgan (bishop)
[edit]Hi there. I saw you recreated the article with comments instead of content. I've restored the article's last good version, then added tags to address the concerns held. Please read these concerns carefully. Most importantly is the concern of notability. Morgan must pass the criteria for notability or he will not be able to keep on as an article. This may include the Welsh version as well. My recommendation to you is to read the tags on the article carefully and address the concerns as quickly as possible. I will tag with {{inuse}} so that you can work on it for a while without it being tagged for speedy deletion before you're finished. Any questions, feel free to drop me a line on my talk page. Cheers and happy editing! - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 11:48, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Clive. I have restored this article and tidied it up. If you add "wikilinks" to notable people, places or concepts in articles you create (ie, [[London]] rather than London produces London) it will allow people to get a sense of context for the articles. Laudian Professor of Arabic
[edit]Thanks for recently creating Laudian Professor of Arabic. Some people have since added some links and I have added some more. However, the names
- Thomas Hunt (1739)
- Joseph White (1777)
both just link to disambiguation pages, where the right people don't seem to be represented. Is it possible that they have wikipedia pages under slightly different versions of their names? Also, my information is that D. S. Margoliouth took the post in 1889, while you have 1899. What was your source? You must be right----Clive SweetingSamuelTheGhost (talk) 22:26, 1 August 2008 (UTC).

Eryl Thomas
[edit]Why have you removed details of the offence for which Eryl Thomas had to resign his archbishopric? It was a huge scandal at the time - and indicative of the times, it possibly wouldn't happen now - and what is more is the truth, as one suspects you know. As it is it reads as if he resigned because he got a speeding fine or the like. Wikipedia must carry all the facts about a person, not just be a hagiography. Deleting the word "Turkish"
[edit]Please stop deleting the word "Turkish" from Montreux Convention Regarding the Regime of the Turkish Straits and Turkish Straits. In the first case, you're breaking the link to Turkish Straits; in the second case, "Turkish Straits" is a straight translation of the term Türk Boğazları and the sentence you're leaving behind is nonsensical ("The term Straits (Turkish: Türk Boğazları) in northwestern Turkey refers to the two narrow straits that connect the Sea of Marmara..." I don't know if this is a case of Turcophobia or whatever, but it needs to stop. -- ChrisO (talk) 09:30, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Xexakis, Nikolaos
[edit]A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Xexakis, Nikolaos, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:
- The article does not assert any particular notability of the subject
All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hi Clive. I noticed you made a number of recent changes to Cardiff, one of which has been reverted by another editor, and some of which I have amended. A lot of work is being done on this article (not by me, I hasten to add), to try to bring it up to Featured Article standard. It is therefore particularly important that, when editing, the added content is of an exceptionally high standard. The prose used must be "engaging, even brilliant, and of a professional standard" and all claims must be verifiable and supported by inline citations. None of your edits provided citations, and I have marked these as being required. When you get the chance, hopefully soon, can you please provide the citations required. If you need any help on how to do this I will be glad to assist. Just leave a note here and I will keep a watch out. I know it's not easy getting your head round the various wikipedia conventions and the multitude of style guides, and we all slip up from time to time, so don't worry too much about it. Most articles are nowhere near Featured Article standard, so it isn't usually a massive problem. Skinsmoke (talk) 16:31, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Clive sweeting! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 5 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 329 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Nikolaos P. Xionis - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Demetrios Tzerpos - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

The article Tardieu, Michel has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. RadioFan (talk) 12:16, 1 May 2010 (UTC)

[edit]The article on Ano Ilisia, though incorrectly speedied, is unlikely to be kept at the end without some actual references. Please give some at the deletion review; some people will not reverse an incorrect speedy that wont pass afd. If it's going to be about the family rather than about Edward specifically, it should probably be moved to a different name such as "Synge family" or something similar. Please let me know. You can reply here: I will be watching this page. Thanks! --Auntof6 (talk) 08:51, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello - I just encountered the above on new page patrol and wanted to add some references. However, a web search for the name is returning absolutely nothing. Do you have any sources you can reference in the article to demonstrate that its subject meets notability criteria? Was a different spelling of his name sometimes used, for example? Without references to reliable sources the page is liable to be proposed for deletion, so if you could add some you'll very likely prolong its life on Wikipedia. Gonzonoir (talk) 10:05, 2 August 2010 (UTC)
The article Marcos Manoles has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No credible, third-party sources, no indication of any wider notability.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Constantine ✍ 20:47, 3 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there: I've added a question to this article's talk page because there are still no references sufficient to verify the article's claims - if you have a look there you'll see some pointers on the kind of sources we'd need. Thanks. Gonzonoir (talk) 15:29, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I've restored the article as you requested, because articles deleted through proposed deletion can be restored per anyone's request (and the deletion itself can be contested by anyone for essentially any reason), but the article still is unsourced and as you see above there don't seem to be any sources to be found for this individual. I'll be taking the article to Articles for Deletion so that it can be discussed whether or not to delete the article, you can argue for its inclusion there. I will notify you when the discussion begins, thank you. -- Atama頭 22:06, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Nomination of Marcos Manoles for deletion
[edit]A discussion has begun about whether the article Marcos Manoles, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Marcos Manoles until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.
You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. -- Atama頭 22:22, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Demetrios Tzerpos restored as per request
[edit]Demetrios Tzerpos has been restored as a contested proposed deletion at your request. However, as an unsourced BLP (something which was pointed out to you eleven months ago), the article, as it exists, is in violation of Wikipedia's WP:BLP policy requiring that statements about living persons be verified (WP:V) by reliable sources (WP:RS), and without those sources, I or another editor will feel forced to send the article towards Articles for Deletion in the near future, the best way to preserve the information you've provided at Tzerpos is to add those citations. I have nothing against you nor Mr. Tzerpos! Just show me the citations, and we'll be on the same side of this discussion! By the way, one thing I should note--there's no requirement that the reliable sources for this article be in English. Where reliable secondary English sources are available that's preferred, but if part of the challenge is finding references in English, but (say) Greek references are plentiful, then that's fine. Have a great day, and please leave me a note at User Talk:Joe Decker if you have questions or concerns. Thanks! --j⚛e deckertalk 16:57, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Jules Leroy
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Jules Leroy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Status and Advice
[edit]As reviewing administrator, I removed the tag; he became a bishop , which is always notable . But it would help to add some references to specific pages of some modern source, & links to scholarly articles, not just a primary source. This is especially true when the article makes a judgment, as this one did.
In fact, if you kept this in mind for all of your articles, it would help avoid unwarranted nominations for deletion. For authors with published books, I usually add a reference to their individual books on WorldCat (or similar).
Remember that 95% of the editors here do not understand or appreciate the academic humanities, especially those parts of it related in any way to religion. I & the others who do understand will help your articles avoid deletion, but it would help if you wrote them so completely from the start as to make the importance obvious. - Tenison is in the Dictionary of National Biography, and the clue to that is the page linking to it from Wikipedia:WikiProject Missing encyclopedic articles/DNB Epitome 56. The DNB is being posted (in its old edition) at Wikisource, and volume 56 is one of the volumes now complete (the project to post the first edition is now about two-thirds done). I mention this because the DNB article s:Tenison, Edward (DNB00) is useful here, and the text can be used (with the {{DNB}} template). I've added the link to Edward Tenison, naturally. For more on the DNB here, see WP:WP DNB. Charles Matthews (talk) 08:21, 9 January 2012 (UTC)
Greetings from Vicipaedia
[edit]Good afternoon, Clive. I thought I'd leave you a message here because I haven't seen you on Vicipaedia recently. Just to say that I'm glancing through a set of biographies at present, some of which are Welsh, many of which are yours. I will be editing them -- only lightly, because I like the way you write Latin! -- but mainly to ensure that place-names, other people, universities and what not are properly linked. Of course, if you notice that I make any mistakes, correct them. Best wishes Andrew Dalby 11:44, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Edit summaries, please
[edit]Hello, Clive. Here are a couple of general editing suggestions for you to consider:
- Please make a habit of providing an edit summary when you make a change to an article. Doing so makes it easier for your colleagues here to understand the intention of your edit.
- Plus, it will be easier for you and your co-editors to collaborate on articles if, instead of making multiple consecutive edits in rapid succession on an article, you use the "Show preview" button to view your changes incrementally before finally saving the page once you're satisfied with your edits. This keeps the page history of the article less cluttered.
Thanks in advance for considering these suggestions. Eric talk 16:15, 31 December 2014 (UTC)

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. [edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page St. Michael's College. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit]Welcome, and thank you for contributing the page Nikolaos P. Xionis to Wikipedia. While you have added the page to the English version of Wikipedia, the article is not in English. We invite you to translate it into English. It has been listed at Pages Needing Translation, but if it is not translated within two weeks, the article will be listed for deletion. Thank you. The article Hausherr Irénée has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no reliable references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp/dated}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. NgYShung huh? 10:25, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to June Osborne, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. Gaia Octavia Agrippa Talk 19:01, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

The article Pamphilus the Theologian has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unsourced. Uses language like 'was probably a ...', suggesting that even the author does not know why this subject deserves a page. Fails notability.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sb2001 talk page 19:43, 24 August 2017 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Sylvester Lloyd
[edit]Hello Clive sweeting,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Sylvester Lloyd for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

[edit]Hello. Please don't change the text of talk page headers created by others. Some editors use such headers to link to discussions. Thank you. By the way, I've reverted your change to the article section on Chrysostom' views about homosexuality; as you'll see if you read the cited content there, he also condemns female homosexuality. I've no strong opinion on whether the section should be titled "Homophobic discourse" or "Views on homosexuality". Haploidavey (talk) 17:27, 13 October 2017 (UTC) In response, I created the header in question and have not changed it but restored it. Similarly I did not initiate change to the main page. Speedy deletion nomination of Adamantius (journal)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Adamantius (journal), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Meliton again
[edit]Let's see. What keeps getting you rejected? 1) You can't just throw down some article titles at the bottom of a page and call them "References". We expect properly linked in-line references, formatted in any of the ways we use. 2) The tone is breezy and informal ("no friend of the Regime of the Colonels" in particular pops up as the sort of thing a newspaper columnist might write, but not an encyclopedist). 3) You aren't wikilinking even the most technical terms. Remember, the average reader here may not be clear on the exact nature of the Greek Orthodox religion, far less what a "metropolitan" is; and don't even get me started on tria nomina! --Orange Mike | Talk 18:47, 11 March 2019 (UTC)
