Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shubhada Varadkar

Just to clarify, are you saying that I am applying systemic bias? CNMall41 (talk) 22:48, 15 May 2023 (UTC)

@CNMall41
There is no personal aspersion in my statement. Most times systemic biases are inadvertent due to systemic imbalance that is why we use word 'systemic'. You can't be hold responsible if any guideline or policy is not nuanced enough.
  • What I can see is inadvertently Appeal to probability taking shape. IMO Indian media houses certainly must be earning from rich Movie celebrities and institutions. But already placed my doubt that Indian classical dancers would have great money to pay for paid news.
  • Secondly in 2014 Varadkar's age would be around 53 according to the date given in the article. Usually It's not time of career take off to pay for a news, much less likely when one is facing cancer.
  • My perception is even if other spurious citations are dropped at least couple of citations would survive to make at least stub article.
Bookku (talk) 04:33, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
Whether placing a notability tag before AfD and inviting users covering Indian classical dance articles to take call would have been better?
For example once I doubted notability of the article Pullman Flatiron Building but may be users covering that segment of articles know more than me whether that article subject is notable enough or not. Bookku (talk) 04:49, 16 May 2023 (UTC)
I see you pinged but did not see this until now. While you may not intended a personal aspersion, it certainly can be taken that way. Your follow up comment in the deletion discussion is what caught my attention though ("if OP could have used Template:Notability and discussed at the article talk page first as part of WP:AFDBEFORE, it would have been better"). If you have an issue with the process I used, please bring up the conduct at ANI, but WP:AGF in your replies and please do not discuss behaviors at AfD. AfD is for discussion on the content, and ANI is for discussion about behavior. Cheers!--CNMall41 (talk) 17:42, 19 May 2023 (UTC)

Nepali

Hi, Bookku, something you said at the WP:Tea house about a poem made me think you might be a native or near-native Nepali speaker. If you are, I could use your help with something. Mathglot (talk) 23:55, 20 June 2023 (UTC)

I suppose that was not WP:Tea house but WP:COVID-19 forum since the poem was about Corona virus. Actually I was browsing to see if I can rejuvenate Draft:Humor during the COVID-19 pandemic then I saw poem and just wanted to see if I can take encyclopedic note of. Where possible, within WP policies, I see if I can do a little to accommodate less represented that is the only connection.
Like you, me also request and take help from WP:RD/H contact various users the way you searched me few times I get chance with academics that's it. If any thing within scope of South Asian studies and if I know of I shall always help. Happy editing and Cheers Bookku (talk) 13:43, 21 June 2023 (UTC)

Trying to clean up Anirudh Devgan article

Hello @Bookku, I tried to clear up the Anirudh Devgan article (and don't have any CoI with the subject). I added more refs and key awards, converted several ELs to refs, added descriptions of contributions from refs, added a couple of ELs. Notability is satisfied because Devgan has been IEEE Fellow since 2006, and this is explicitly mentioned as a sufficient condition of notability for scientists. He also has more advanced distinctions that attest to the significance of his contributions to the field. As a separate issue, I don't see the need to keep the CoI banner because the connected editor's contributions have apparently been undone and many others edits were done after that (including my edits). Thank you for looking into this. B030510 (talk) 09:41, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

@MrOllie seem experienced enough user. I have noted at article t/p if @MrOllie or any other experienced users feel satisfied with state of the article I would not have any issues if they remove the respective tags as they would think appropriate.
Generally I am inclusionist.

Question from Solomen Yang (13:48, 18 October 2023)

Hi, bookku

I want to ask a question. How to determine whether the cited source meets the requirements of the wiki?

I watch too many cases but still feel confused. Do you have any idea? --Solomen Yang (talk) 13:48, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

@Solomen Yang
Please read WP:RS. If you are looking for least contentious acceptability then usually look for academic books and papers written by professors. Usually self published books and journals are not accepted as WP:RS.
Usually contentious topics like Biography, medicines, contentious political segments, etc may have higher expectations. Fringe theories, if any, are usually likely to be contested or declined.
More doubts about specific sources can be discussed at WP:RSN. Also WP:Teahouse is place for help to new users.

Rajeshwari

Hi Booku, I could use your help. I took up your suggestion on adding information on goddess Rajeshwari and was able to find a page which is devoted to the goddess and added "Rajeshwari" as a synonym so it is easier to find. I also found the below website for a temple dedicated to the goddess. I want to add this temple to the page but I am not able to find the visual way of editing only "edit source." Do you know how I can move forward? Also there are some useful depictions of goddess Rajeshwari on the below Exotic India webpage. Do you know how I can add it? My apologies for all the questions. Looking forward to your suggestions! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripura_Sundari https://maarajrajeshwarimandir.org/history-of-temple/ https://www.exoticindiaart.com/article/rajarajeshwari-lalita-empress-of-beauty/ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hemmingweigh (talkcontribs) 14:17, 21 November 2023 (UTC)

@Louis P. Boog I suggest not to feel disheartened. Now you have sought inputs at WT:ISLAM, I suggest to wait for 8-10 days to see what inputs you get there. There after, if unsatisfied, you can take the issue at WP:DRN give a week or so for that process. If still unsatisfied go for WP:RFC on the article talk page.
Cheers and happy editing. Bookku (talk) 09:59, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

  • In ready citation formats in visual editor there is one "Quote" there one can fill original quote which you are referring from the book. In this polarized world Other user may wish to know what is written in academic literature as is and you are using it properly. So quoting original may help in avoiding misunderstanding in likely contentious areas.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. --Louis P. Boog (talk) 17:32, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

@Louis P. Boog
For example in Muslim_world#Citations you may see second (Esposito, John L) and third (Afsaruddin, Asma) citation includes quotes from the cited books. See WP:FOOTQUOTE. I will inquire any pictorial or video help is available from help me volunteers. Bookku (talk) 07:43, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Let me get this straight. You are asking here, on your talk page, for help for Louis P. Boog on how to use the quote= parameter in citations templates, is that right?
The policy regarding these types of quotes is briefly covered at WP:FOOTQUOTE.
The documentation for the parameter is given at Template:Citation#Quote.
In the source editor, using the parameter is straightforward. In the visual editor, under the 'cite' button, you first put in the basic parameters (sometimes just a URL is sufficient to get started), then scroll down the list of fields to find the one named 'Quote', which is a text box you can enter the quote into.
I'm afraid I'm not aware of any video or tutorial help that specifically addresses the use of this field, but if someone is struggling at creating citations, the page User:Nick Moyes/Easier Referencing for Beginners is an excellent place to start and Nick provides a helpful video link there. — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs) 08:57, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Thanks Bookku and — jmcgnh(talk) (contribs)--Louis P. Boog (talk) 19:43, 11 April 2024 (UTC)
I was aware of the quote= field, I just wasn't sure that was what was being referred to. -- Louis P. Boog (talk) 19:56, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Checked Jinn talk page archive.

Found nothing on discussion of belief in Jinn necessary for belief in Islam. Posted this on Jinn talk page Louis P. Boog (talk) 15:46, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Question about adding to Jinn article

As a discussion facilitator for Jinn dispute, do you feel it would be inappropriate for me to WP:BOLD add some of the information from the Encyclopaedia of Islam New Edition Online (EI-2 to the Jinn article? (I was thinking that with its strong academic pedigree, if the edits were judicious, VFF could not really complain) Would this mess up the discussion? --Louis P. Boog (talk) 17:11, 18 April 2024 (UTC)

Would you be interested?

Hello, Bookku,
I don't know if you remember me, but we interacted in a discussion on the talk page of Slavery in Afghanistan, and I appreciated your effort in that issue. A similar issue has recently came up. Since you were interested in protecting Slavery in Afghanistan against attempts of bias, you may also be intrested in the talk page of slavery in al-Andalus; nothing has yet been done, but it likely will be.
A user who have shown what I believe to be bias have been allerted to the article: [2] The first user have adressed valid concerns which I have adressed, but M.Bitton have shown bias in other articles in this topic issue, and from what is said, I a concerned this article will be subjected to bias editing. You will see my concerns on the article talk page.
Perhaps you could be persuaded to put the article in your watch list, and adress future bias editing by M.Bitton? I would have done it myself, but I must be honest enough to say that my health is not good enough to engage in such a thing, and I have been blunt enough to explain why in the talk page. But I am still concerned enough to want to at least attempt to do something to protect the article. Of course, there is no need for any action at all at present; but since I know you to be interested in the subject, I would be grateful to know that a non-bias and serious contributor with respect for a non bias view had the article under watch. Thanks. All the best, --Aciram (talk) 11:44, 21 April 2024 (UTC)

You have been following me and commenting about my edits which is against the rules as per WP:WIKIHOUNDING. Please stop. I am sure that others can also advise me if something is wrong.-Haani40 (talk) 04:11, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

If you want to give me friendly advise, please use the Wikipedia, "Email this user" tool.-Haani40 (talk) 04:17, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
Other editors will read what you post on Wikipedia and that can be used against me, so please advise me only by Email (that is, if you want to advise me)!-Haani40 (talk) 04:23, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
@Haani40
My time is valuable to me henceforth I shall not provide advice at your talk page unless you ask for specifically but Good faith peer advice is not hounding. (emphasis added). You are second time misconstruing me and you seem to have comprehension issues.
If one comes across you at general discussion board, if you are asking questions at general forums like Teahouse and deserve additional good faith guidance at your talk page then purpose is not to complain about you and hence that does not amount to hounding.
If your mistakes on promotion, copy right etc are getting visibly mentioned on your talk page by other users you don't deserve guidance?
Any ways general talk pages which are under my regular watch list and I comment I suppose you would not wish to stop me in joining the discussions.
Bookku (talk) 05:01, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
I am only requesting you to advise me by Email (that is if your intention is to advise me) as other editors will read what you post on Wikipedia and that can be used against me!-Haani40 (talk) 05:16, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
Yes I would always say that mentoring advice not be used against the user being mentored. For example Cordless Larry's advice to you at Teahouse is in the role of mentor and not in the role of admin hence that should not be counted as admin's admonishment against you. But one user has used it at ARE against you. Just due to length restriction I stopped from mentioning the point in your favour.
Presently my email has firewall limitations. Secondly continuous email communications too can attract Tag teaming charges. So I have usually avoided emailing. Bookku (talk) 05:36, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
@Haani40
Here is the proof on 19th I came to Teahouse to advise another user before you reading their section heading at my watch list.
On 22nd today also at Teahouse I advising advising some other user since 21st.
In both cases I saw your help requests after fulfilling help requests of some other user.
  • See mentions about you in earlier i.e. on 18th first by admin Firefangledfeathers (specially about casting aspersions) and 18th second, an admin is concerned but not taking an action is that not a fit case deserving mentoring? I came to guide you at your talk page only after that i.e. 19th you have not been able to pick the cues properly so better to guide at your talk page, then first thing I found at your talk page concerns by another admin then I studied your contributions and provided goodfaith advice. On Wikipedia you can request not to hold mentoring adivise against you but you can not move on compelling users to peer review your activity only through email. Anyways you said you do not want help at your talk page so I am not going to come there unless any essential notice to be given to you. Bookku (talk) 07:04, 22 April 2024 (UTC)
OK, thanks. I however, welcome any Email from you.-Haani40 (talk) 07:28, 22 April 2024 (UTC)

Talk page spamming

Posting the same thing to 86 different talk pages just might get you blocked from editing. - dcljr (talk) 08:42, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Sorry , that is in good faith I was not aware of any such restriction. To be neutral from my side I ended up posting on more talk pages

Bookku (talk) 08:51, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Posting requests for help on the talk pages of articles that are at best tangentially connected to your topic is not constructive. Please consider removing them. The appropriate place for these sorts of requests is relevant wikiprojects, such as the literature and Islam wikiprojects, which I note you have already posted on. CMD (talk) 09:05, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
Sorry I did not know. In one of previous article some one objected me saying you are partial informing specific set so this time I took couple of others but most are related by language literature or art. I will remove which I understand may help you. And you also can suggest or remove some of them in good faith. Thanks for your support Bookku (talk) 09:26, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
It is useful to request input for multiple places, but the number of places should probably be far less than 86. I'd say stick to a handful of the most relevant wikiprojects, and articles if very closely related. CMD (talk) 17:07, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
I suppose I am improved in these expectations over the years. This is just for my own record. Bookku (talk) 09:53, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Superstitions in Muslim societies

You are doing it wrong. You spammed those links in dozens of article Talk pages, where they do not belong. Instead, you should post that thing once - in a WP page that seems appropriate to you, such as WP:FTN. --Hob Gadling (talk) 13:32, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Why?

I have no idea why I received this notification from you. Best as I can tell, I was never involved with it. Could you please explain this? Paradoctor (talk) 14:33, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello greetings, In brief to seek inputs from wider audience. Since editors to Superstition in Judaism were limited I selected few from history of Template:Superstition (Where I found you had edited template) to include users with unknown or limited interest and few from Talk:Superstition in neutral fashion (I included even those were opposed to superstition related article and were deletionist and also those who supported superstition related articles or did some edit.
If one selects people having high interest then also is objectionable for not being neutral enough. If one cares for neutrality and includes users with limited interest then like you they can get angry.
I regret if it inconvenienced you. Best wishes Bookku (talk) 14:51, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
This is called WP:CANVASSING. Stop it. Paradoctor (talk) 16:54, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
What WP:AfD says is one should not be biased and I was not biased. Still I expressed my regrets to you. Hope this helps. Bookku (talk) 16:59, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
WP:AfD: All such efforts must comply with Wikipedia's guideline against biased canvassing.
WP:CANVASSING: Posting an excessive number of messages to individual users, or to users with no significant connection to the topic at hand. (my emphasis) Paradoctor (talk) 18:20, 7 September 2020 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia

Thanks for identifying the source of the material in your edit.

This type of edit does get picked up by Copy Patrol and a good edit summary helps to make sure we don't accidentally revert it. However, for future use, would you note the best practices wording as outlined at Wikipedia:Copying_within_Wikipedia? In particular, adding the phrase "see that page's history for attribution" helps ensure that proper attribution is preserved.

I've noticed that this guideline is not very well known, even among editors with tens of thousands of edits, so it isn't surprising that I point this out to some veteran editors, but there are some t's that you need to be crossed.S Philbrick(Talk) 12:18, 23 October 2020 (UTC)

"Enforced disappearance of Mushtaq Mahar" listed at Redirects for discussion

A discussion is taking place to address the redirect Enforced disappearance of Mushtaq Mahar. The discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 October 24#Enforced disappearance of Mushtaq Mahar until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. USaamo (t@lk) 16:02, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

  • Hi Bookku, hope you would be fine. I wanted to get back to you regarding this redirect's discussion but got busy with studies as educational institutions were reopened for sometime in the country but discussion got closed before that. From past couple of weeks I wanted to clarify myself about what you complained in that discussion over pointing you as Indian editor and presuming antecedents on your part and phishing to compromise your privacy. So let me be straight, it was not even directed towards you. I just said it in general since most of the editors editing those articles then were seemingly Indians and their tone was not encyclopedic and NPOV was disregarded and articles were burdened. Sindh Police article afterwards was cleaned by many editors and even after your last edit on it, some editors further cleaned, copyedited and removed unsourced things. So I actually was pointing towards those editors who burdened that article unfairly and it was not at all specfically directed towards you as you assumed on your own. I just asserted on the point in that discussion about the redirect that it is not the actual event to where it is redirected. This was just the part of a bigger picture which happened at Mazar-e-Quaid. Moreover it was too early and we should wait for details to come after which it could be updated. There was an inquiry and its report came which clarified the picture as per which it could be updated in a better way. And by the way in the same discussion you too not one time but many times pointed me out and labeled me as supporter of Pakistani deep state, promoting Armed Forces' narrative, wisher of soft censors and giving impression that no one is credible, reliable or independent in Pakistan, which was extremely irresponsive on part of an editor like you but I gave it a pass.

Anyhow what happened has happened, I look forward to working with you in future regarding the articles relating to South Asia. Wishing you New Year 2021 in advance! Regards, USaamo (t@lk) 13:26, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

In hindsight just for own record
This is just for my own record. If they wrote in general then I also did not use any user name and used general terms only. I would have never imagined some one who wrote matter is over with "..Anyhow what happened has happened, I look forward to working with you in future regarding the articles relating to South Asia. .." will use again the same mole to make mountain.
Usually I do not have any record of being personal, and I am very careful since beginning on Wikipedia. Well that was all an incident where Pakistan's then Prime Minister joked as whole incident was joke (that earst while Pakistan Prime Minister itself had kind of experience with Pakistan's Establishment is another story). Hence then I also wrote in general mood of humor also a little in heat of the moment without having intention of being personal without naming any user at all. I didn't know previous topic ban history of the user. In hindsight I feel I should have focused on updating the article Enforced disappearances in Pakistan with sound RS than wasting time engaging just for a redirect. I suppose as a Wikipedian I am more experienced and more mature now than then. Bookku (talk) 12:58, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

irrelevant comments in talk page about Persian language

Hello, all your comments in Talk:Persian_language are irrelevant... --Wisdood (talk) 09:01, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Islamic vs Muslim discussion

Bookku, you seem to be copying and pasting the exact same thing onto many different talk pages. Instead I suggest making proposals at each page that are specific to it.VR talk 03:11, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

@Vice regent: IMO any consensus building on such topics will be long drawn process so at the moment in first round of discussion, I wish people become aware that there is some thing to look into. It became common also because I started discussing from village pump side and will be posting to one or two more common discussion places. After taking note of first round of discussion in second or third round we can make specific proposal. Basically I am not in any hurry.

The interesting part is I don't know if I am too slow in making the case. I started taking notes long back when one of the article name was Muslim dietary laws and by the time I started discussing article name is already changed.

Thanks and warm regards

Bookku (talk) 03:22, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

A word of advice: you created multiple discussion forks, which is strongly discouraged per Wikipedia etiquette. I suggest you pick one central venue an place pointers on the other talk pages. --HyperGaruda (talk) 12:04, 5 March 2021 (UTC)

Extra-long comments

Hey Bookku,

I've been interacting you for more than a year now. One thing I notice is that you make really long comments (eg). In my experience long comments create WP:WALLSOFTEXT which then discourage uninvolved parties to comment. Do you think you can write shorter comments? Thank you, VR talk 04:26, 8 November 2021 (UTC)

I don't at all agree with you saying "Encyclopedist need to be used to long academic discourses need not complain of length of the response". WP:WALLSOFTEXT is a thing. A LOT of wikipedians frown upon extremely long responses. It makes talk page discussions difficult to read and it repels new people from joining the discussion. If you still disagree with me, perhaps you can ask others about it. VR talk 14:57, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Also read some of the feedback you got here.VR talk 14:57, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

Information icon Most of the time, short, to-the-point comments are better (because readers are more likely to read them).
Some of the time, long comments are better (because they need to be long to explain ideas properly).

I've reverted [3] your edits [4] to Veena Malik as grossly undue. Please be much more careful when adding content to a biographical article --Hipal (talk) 23:36, 10 February 2022 (UTC)

Bicycling in Islam

Hello, and thank you for your contributions. One of the edits you made to the Bicycling in Islam article in which you added a lead was slightly out of place. I think your addition would be better in another part of the article. I would be happy to discuss this whenever you are available.

Friendly talk

Hello Bookku.. I am new to Wikipedia editing and it was my mistake as I was not aware and wrong about the way I had replied to the talk page of User:Sneha996, users like Snehaji and you may be experienced and trained editors...and but they seem not to care about how to be polite to young new editors..they are trying to make a kind of competition with youngsters than making them understand...i feel so disgusting about how adamant she is with young editors like us in making their side always right even the source doesn't support it.

Even the user Snehaji crossed the boundary a few times I ignored them. But I had to report them this time, So I reported as I feel bad about such kind of editors who disturbs others is still here. Jyomon (talk) 11:32, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
