ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Comment-free relisting

[edit]

Hi Aasim.

I notice that you have done some comment-free relistings.

Why do this? Resisting causes old discussions to be moved to the top of the queue, shuffling the order, and actually decreases their visibility. Old discussions in the backlog attract attention due to being old and in the backlog.

Relisting is useful if something new has happened, and old participants need to be called back to review, or it wasn’t processed properly, or a qualified closer finds it not ready for closing but provides a re-focusing comment that we help bring the discussion to a consensus.

A comment-free relist is not useful. SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:18, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

Hi SmokeyJoe, thanks for reaching out. I did the relist as I saw there was not enough participation. While I get that old business is old business, some of these discussions I relisted have had no new comments for weeks. I get MFD and FFD have a bit less activity compared to AfD and RfD but when deciding to relist I did not see enough participation (particularly a good number of "keep" and "delete" !votes) to conclude that there is consensus for "keep". Similar discussions I did not close or relist because there appears to be consensus for actions I am unable to perform. Also I do not see how something listed at the very bottom is going to get a lot of attention in MfD as I for certain do not contribute to topics on forums that are at the bottom of the page. Hope this clears why I relisted. Aasim (talk) 00:49, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Please don’t do comment-free relisting. It messes the order, and decreases visibility of old discussions. Old things definitely get more attention due to being in the backlog. You should consider reviewing old discussions that are still open. —SmokeyJoe (talk) 00:55, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
That sounds good. Next time I'll prob give details why I did the relist rather than leaving it blank. Aasim (talk) 00:57, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Defender of the Wiki Barnstar
For your excellent, dignified retort to a disruptive, uncivil user at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#User:GenoV84_and_the_%22Kafir_Lives_Matter%22_userbox. You are awesome indeed. Dronebogus (talk) 02:08, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Dronebogus Let's not quickly jump to conclusions about whether they are being civil or not kek. Remember that WP:AGF still exists. The goal of coaching is to address good-faith mistakes and bad-faith trolling. But thanks for the barnstar anyway :) Aasim (talk) 02:19, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
