Alphabetical sort

Please refrain from changing the sorting system of the H&O section by placing the Christian observances on top. We had discussions over whether Christian feast day should be placed on top (or bottom) and the consensus is to keep the sort as strictly alphabetical. There is no strong reason why "Christianity" should be placed in the beginning. To avoid issues related to it (the religion), we decided to neutrally sort the H&O alphabetically; which means that Armed Forces Day or Children Day are placed before the Christian observances. Minerals vs. Gemstones

We don't classify natural materials by their uses but by what they are. Garnet minerals may be used as gemstones, but that isn't what they are. Only a pyrope of gem quality is a gemstone, all pyrope garnets are minerals of a recognized composition. Pyrope 14:03, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

This is a classic case of over-categorization. Specifically, this is categorization by a non-defining property. As I have said in many edit summaries, sometimes these minerals are used as gemstones but they are not always so. Being a gemstone is not what defines these minerals; being a garnet group mineral is what defines these minerals. All garnets are garnets, only a few of them are then are of the right optical and physical properties to be gemstones. By all means use a specific sub-category to identify those garnet species that are commonly seen as gemstones, but don't remove the mineral from the 'parent' mineral category. That simply isn't helpful, and implies that these minerals are only gemstones, which isn't true. All garnet gemstones are types of gemstones, so you could quite easily argue that "Gemstones" would be an appropriate true parent category whose entries should be diffused into specific sub-categories, but this isn't true of the mineral categories. I'm not sure what is happening. I suggest you try Help:Contents, read it over carefully, and see where to go from there. Also, I'm guessing that English isn't your first language and you may want to mention that on your talk page. Someone may have thought you were vandalizing because your English was poorly written and it might be a good idea mention that on your page to avoid further misunderstandings. Women by century

I am sorry if I offended you, but even if you disregard the fact that it is, in my opinion, not ethical to divide people by gender more than absolutely necessary (I, personally, feel very strongly for people with gender difficulty and the hbtq-community, who dislike this, except from the fact that I am a feminist) then my other reason remains: the category "18th-century women" would be astronomically enormous in size, composed of eventually thousands of articles, and categories who are to big are not very useful. Please refrain from changing the alphabetical sorting rule of H&O

Dear Asarelah, please make sure that the alphabetical sort of the H&O section is maintained (referring to your previous edit for November 1 where you place the "Earliest" part on top). This has been maintained for years to ensure neutrality and reduce conflict with certain "groups", so please keep it consistent and do not introduce something new (e.g. placing "Christian Feast days" on top of "Arbor days"). Anyway, I reinstated the Kerala and the Haryana foundation day onto the H&O section but in general, the H&O doesn't include regional or city birthday. I decided to place a good faith for Kerala and Haryana foundation days just because it has always been in the H&O section for years.--Rochelimit (talk) 10:35, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Removing information

May I ask why you are removing holidays/festivals that are non-Gregorian calendar events from the section known as "Non-Gregorian observances, 2017" on the April page? (121.214.29.160 (talk) 10:47, 17 February 2017 (UTC))

Because a lot of those observances are from 2016 rather than 2017 if you look at the sources. I got a bit confused when I was doing it and I may have mixed them up a bit, but I'll get them sorted out asap. Asarelah (talk) 13:07, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

You can keep the dates for the South/Southeast Asian New Year festivals the same, because most of them fall on either April 13 or April 14 this year as well. March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. 2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. User group for Military Historians

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

• tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
• adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
• updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
• creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Please do not make edits like this. MOS:ETHNICITY is quite clear that one should not include ethnicity in the lede like this, and bare URLs should not be used as footnotes. If you want to add material like this, please put it in the body of the article, and ensure that you create a proper footnote that lists at a minimum things like the name of the article, the name of the publication, the author, and the date of publication.
