Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion

Just letting you know that edit was an accidental use of rollback. I didn't even notice. ~EDDY (talk/contribs)~ 01:59, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

Seem to be a lot of those lately! Glad I caught it, then. Happy editing, Ansh666 02:23, 8 July 2014 (UTC)

National varieties of English

Information icon In a recent edit to the page Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Inserting the British English spelling of a US agency, whose name is in American English, is disruptive. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:27, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Wait, what? @Robert McClenon: are you sure you got the right person? The only ENGVAR thing I could possibly have screwed up is "population center" vs "centre", I didn't edit anything else. Ansh666 16:30, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Probably someone else. Oops. Robert McClenon (talk) 16:45, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
No problem. Was strange seeing a random warning pop up out of nowhere. Thanks, Ansh666 16:49, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
You were the last editor before the weird spelling (American as the article name, British spelling displayed) was reverted. Robert McClenon (talk) 18:19, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Ah, makes sense. Ansh666 01:49, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Deletion Page on Paul M. Gahlinger

I believe there is one at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Paul_M._Gahlinger Mwinog2777 (talk) 00:34, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

Yep, you put it up less than a minute after I posted on your talk page. Sorry! Ansh666 00:37, 1 September 2014 (UTC)

May I remind you, per WP:RELIST, if you relist an article for a third(or more) time, you are supposed to "write a short explanation (in addition to the {{relist}} template) on why they did not consider the debate sufficient." You do not appear to have done so in this case. Op47 (talk) 10:52, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, didn't know that (and I haven't seen it done before, either). Ansh666 18:45, 7 September 2014 (UTC)

Did you mean me??

I hope "that" inexperienced mass message sender was me?? Jim Carter (from public cyber) 19:12, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

Who else? Ansh666 19:36, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
Hmm. I can understand. It refers to a message I left at Anna Frodesiak's talk page just now. And anyway, I wish everything is going well with you. Have a good day :) Jim Carter (from public cyber) 19:46, 10 September 2014 (UTC)
Jeez, no need to beat up yourself over something that happened so long ago (in internet-time, anyways). You've learned your lesson, now move on! "Inexperienced" is a relative term (compared to, say, Anna, you will probably always be inexperienced!), and in any case I was referring not to your current level of experience. Cheers, Ansh666 20:10, 10 September 2014 (UTC)

We have something in common - you think I missed a point, while I think you did :)

Responding here rather than at the RFA page. You seem to think I missed something while I think you missed something. Here is the sequence of events from my point of view.

  1. Rich posts a few thoughts including support for CLA68's suggestion.
  2. I see the support for the horrendous suggestion and prepare a post in response.
  3. The section is closed so rather than add my post to a closed section or reopen myself I just move on.
  4. You reopen the section. I do see that you re-opened so that you could talk about one aspect, but if you wanted to talk about only one aspect, the better option would have been to start a new section about that one point. You chose to reopen the section, which is fine, but it means anything in the section is on-topic.
  5. When I saw the section re-opened, I decided to post my response to the horrible proposal. I specifically outdented, so it would not look like I was responding to you.
  6. You objected, but on the assumption that I was responding to the narrow point you wished to discuss.
  7. Your facepalm seems to imply that I missed that I was only allowed to respond to you. I think you missed that we don't work that way. Had I addressed you with a point about CLA68, you would be right in saying I missed your point. I didn't.--S Philbrick(Talk) 12:56, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
Oi, you actually missed a lot, then. Let's go through your points in order.
  1. I've already stated what I believe the scope of Rich's "support" for Cla68's suggestion is, I won't repeat that again.
  2. Which "horrendous suggestion", Cla68's or Rich's?
  3. Okay.
  4. I didn't reopen the section, that was Andrevan (okay, I can maybe understand how you'd mix that up).
  5. For one, you were responding to MelanieN (now this is inexplicable, that's not even close to me). If perhaps you'd slowed down to read what they'd written, Andrevan and especially Melanie changed the scope of the entire discussion. It was no longer about women at all. Also, {{outdent}} is intended for continuing a reply-chain while preserving writing space. If you intend to not reply to someone, don't use it, just start the indenting from scratch.
  6. Not the narrow point I wished to discuss, the narrow point that Andrevan and Melanie wished to discuss. See how Melanie only included the last two lines of Rich's opening remarks?
  7. Well, for one, from your first comment on, the two of us were the only ones active in the sub-section. Who else would we be responding to? Andrevan and Melanie did exactly as you asked: they took out the relevant parts of Rich's proposal and created a new section to discuss them, which is what I've been trying to tell you the entire time. Meanwhile, you unintentionally derailed their attempt by bringing up women, Cla68 and his(?) horribly misguided proposal which everyone agreed would never work. So, you did address me, and the page in general, with a point about Cla68, and continued to refer to it even after I attempted to explain.
Kappish? ansh666 19:36, 18 September 2014 (UTC) (P.S. I'm not implying that I'm a mob enforcer or anything, my mother used to ask me this after she explained something to me!)
  1. I saw you say that "Rich is in fact refuting Cla68's point". I didn't understand that then, and still do not. When Rich says "...Cla68's suggestion does have merit..." do you think he is lying?
  2. I thought "The proposal by Cla68 is appallingly bad" would be a clue. If not, I think CLA68's proposal is horrendous.
  3. Nothing to add
  4. The point is that the section was re-opened. Who reopened it is a nitpicking detail. It is occasionally important to get the details right, it is occasionally unimportant. This is in the unimportant category.
  5. I accept that the outdent confused you. I removed it.
  6. Wow, nit picking in its finest. Fine. I'll reword "You claimed the discussion is no longer about the proposal by CLA68. Of course it is, because I'm discussing it. I missed the edict that some points made in this discussion are no longer allowed to be mentioned."
  7. You have some odd notion of what people are allowed to talk about. Because the two of us are the only ones active for a few minutes, I am only allowed to discuss subjects you raise? Sorry, it doesn't work that way. My main point seems not to have sunk in. I'll repeat below.

I think CLA68's proposal is horrendous and an insult to women. I wanted to make that point, but held my tongue when the section was briefly closed. When I saw it reopened, I saw a chance to make my point, which I did. And you have played wikilawyer trying to argue my point was out of line. CLA68 has made the proposal, and reiterated support in a number of places. It needs to be burned to the ground, buried and salted. Kapish? (It sounds like you agree, so I'm at a loss to explain why you are so invested in this.)--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:06, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

Having re-read the entire discussion, I do see that the incorrect use of the outdent confused you, so I apologize for that error. I've fixed it.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:16, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

I'm not going to comment on most of it, because I don't even see what you're trying to get at (claiming I'm nitpicking because you didn't check if I'd actually done something you said I did? How is that supposed to be not confusing at all?). What I don't understand is why you continue to insist that the entire section is about Cla68's proposal. It isn't. That was the section above. I'm not the only one who's stated this: Rich's section is different from Cla68's section. Completely separate. Andrevan's reopening? Even more so. ansh666 20:21, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
I see there are reading comprehension issues. I said nothing that could be construed as claiming that I thought the entire discussion is about CLA68's proposal. It obviously isn't. However, the section does discuss CLA68's proposal, and I wished to make a point about it. I don't know why this isn't sinking in, but it may be time to give up trying. You insulted me, I wanted politely point out where you erred, but that ship has sailed. Let's call it quits, though it is your page, so you get the last word if you want.--S Philbrick(Talk) 20:53, 18 September 2014 (UTC)
No, you're right, you did not say anything here on my talk page to that effect. Your first comment in the "Unclosed" section, however, was all about Cla68 and women and how that shouldn't be the main topic (or perhaps even a topic) of RfA reform. I was trying to point out to you that that was missing the entire point of the "Unclosed" section (though I'll give you, not the entire point of Rich's initial proposal section); I'd assumed we'd all moved on from the ridiculous gender-based suggestions earlier.
Sorry if I was insulting or something; it's been a frustrating couple of days for me, with pneumonia overlaid over the most stressful week I've had so far this year (perhaps even over my entire time so far in college). Frankly, I'm surprised I'm still alive, so there's that. I probably shouldn't even be allowed out in the public in this state, but, ya know, gotta write those papers, gotta take those tests, gotta get good grades and graduate like a good little boy.
Anyways, happy editing. I'll go stew in my current state of uselessness now, I guess. Cheers, ansh666 21:06, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

L.A. events on October 7 and 16

Upcoming L.A. events: Wik-Ed Women edit-a-thon (10/7, 6-10pm) and UCR edit-a-thon (10/16, 10am-4pm)

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

The Southern California Wikipedia community has two exciting events coming up in the next few weeks: a Wik-Ed Women editing session downtown designed to combat systemic bias, and a Wikipedia Loves Libraries event at UC Riverside!

Wik-Ed Women is a new monthly series of informal Wikipedia editing sessions for Los Angeles women-in-the-arts (though all are welcome) to contribute their expertise to Wikipedia, specifically expanding content about women artists. This second session will take place on Tuesday, October 7 from 6pm to 10pm at the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive downtown. Please RSVP here if you plan to attend.

The UC Riverside Wikipedia Loves Libraries event is an edit-a-thon targeting articles related to UC Riverside, SoCal, and beyond. Join students and faculty learning how to edit! This event will take place on Thursday, October 16 from 10am to 4pm at UCR's Tomás Rivera Library. Again, RSVPs are requested here.

I hope to see you there! Calliopejen1 (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 20:47, 29 September 2014 (UTC)

I've left a comment on the article's talk page. Why was the afd tag removed?--114.81.255.37 (talk) 11:52, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

Ahh, so sorry! It seems you left the talk page note using a different IP than the one you placed the tag with; I checked the contributions of the IP for a talk page edit but didn't think to check the talk page itself! That'll teach me. I'll create the AfD. Thanks for pointing it out! ansh666 12:26, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

It appears that Sockpuppet User:Ctway AKA User:LDNBoi has returned

It appears that Sockpuppet User:Ctway...AKA User:LDNBoi...has returned. The following message was left on my talk page by User:Rezin. This new account...user:Everybodyswillyisaspeedboat...appears to have the same unusual obsession for multi-barrel firearms and weapons of Iran.

"Perhaps this is related: It looks to me like the editor(s) who created the VBR articles I nominated for deletion my be the same person as this guy. While reviewing the related edits I came across SerLea references. The accounts are user:Ose\fio‎, user:Chenfehuang‎, user:Armorpiercer‎ and user:Xmkcojnisef‎. While not directly connected, active account user:Everybodyswillyisaspeedboat seems to fit the same mold. They seem to share an interest in multiple barrel firearms and a propensity to copy material from other websites. Should this be dealt with officially? Rezin (talk) 17:15, 11 November 2014 (UTC)"

If you could please look into this at your convenience. Thank you--RAF910 (talk) 21:22, 11 November 2014 (UTC)

Re: Matteo NL97

I don't think that he's a Ctway sock either. I am also O.K. with the reorganization as well. Yes, it's the weird Type Section that got my attention. It seems that Matteo NL97 is redefining term by pulling info out of a hat. Also, he asked for help but when its given he reverts it. Maybe, he's sincere and doesn't understand how Wiki works or maybe something else.--RAF910 (talk) 21:27, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

Response About Starting Deletion Discussion

Hello-

You contacted me about my incomplete attempt to nominate a page for deletion (on the article Tracey Jackson). While I do believe a conversation should be had about the page's validity (I think it fails to meet the biography page guidelines and was created for self-promotion), I have been personally threatened with legal action by the subject of the page in question so I am hesitant to take the matter further. I now realize I should not have used my real name as my username. However, if you or another user would like to start the deletion discussion thread, by all means, feel free to do so.

LA edit-a-thons on February 14, 17, and 21

Redondo Loves Wikipedia (2/14), Wik-Ed Women (2/17), and Unforgetting LA at the Getty (2/21)!

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

The LA Wikipedia community has three events in mid-February -- please consider attending!

First, we have a Valentine's Day edit-a-thon appropriately named Redondo Loves Wikipedia, which will take place at the Redondo Beach Public Library from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, February 14. Join library staff, the Redondo Beach Historical Society, and others to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of Redondo Beach!

Second, we have a Wik-Ed Women editing session on Tuesday, February 17 from 6pm to 10pm at the Los Angeles Contemporary Archive downtown. This series of informal get-togethers is designed to encourage Los Angeles women-in-the-arts (though all are welcome!) to contribute their expertise to Wikipedia, specifically expanding content about women artists.

Third, we have an Unforgetting LA event put on by East of Borneo in collaboration with the Getty Research Institute. Come help improve Wikipedia's coverage of LA design and architecture, and have an awesome free day at the museum -- parking will be validated for edit-a-thon participants! If you'd like to use particular books from GRI's great collection, be sure to email before 2/13 (instructions at event page).

And be sure to check out our main meetup page, because we already have three SoCal events scheduled for early March!

I hope to see you there! Calliopejen1 (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:58, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
