Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Dublin, California, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Valley High School. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Admin closure

I reverted you. This was too contentious for a non-admin closure. It might be a keep but I think an admin should do it. Thanks. Philafrenzy (talk) 17:56, 18 February 2015 (UTC)

@Philafrenzy: No. Per WP:NACD, non-admins or anyone involved in the discussion–especially the nominator–, may not revert a non-admin closure. Besides, explain to me how the consensus could be anything other than keep. ansh666 18:03, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
As mentioned above, its too contentious for the non admin process. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:17, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Seemed to me like an obvious conclusion. How would you have interpreted it (honest, neutral question)? ansh666 18:19, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
As mentioned, it looks like a keep at first glance but AFDs are not a vote so a closing admin should be weighting up the arguments and in this case the sources to come to a conclusion. Did you spend a long time doing that, bearing in mind the subject matter? There was no indication that you had in your edit. Please unclose it and let an admin do it. Philafrenzy (talk) 18:24, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Yes, I did. Here's my full reasoning:
As noted, WP:NOTCENSORED applies, so objections on that front are invalid.
The rest of the discussion hinged on whether the sources given in the discussion counted as notability. You (nominator) and one other participant had no opinion on this past stating that they were not (WP:JNN); the others (apart from the above point) kind of did. Those who advocated keep (of which there were a lot more) offered more sources beyond those considered by the delete comments and rebuttals to their points (Lukeno94, especially), and one even had changed their vote from delete.
Remember also that sources only need to exist, not be in the article, for a subject to be notable. Not do the sources need to be in English; foreign sources are perfectly fine.
Under these circumstances, I don't believe anything other than keep would be appropriate. If you still wish to contest, WP:DRV is also available. ansh666 18:39, 18 February 2015 (UTC)
Hello, Ansh666. You have new messages at Stifle's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

I also believe you should re-open this page. Non-admin is for clear cases. The issues here weren't the ones you highlighted, but the inherent notability of the sources, which I think are highly debatable. Also there's been no new sources on the issue, so the couple of 'wait's might now have resolved to a delete. Magedq (talk) 02:34, 21 February 2015 (UTC)

February 2015

Thanks for sending me a message about the deletion discussion that I didn't attempted to complete on Aspire Music Group. I just forgot to complete the whole thing and it forgot to set up the template right. Let's hope I won't make that mistake again. I don't wanna be blocked from editing. DBrown SPS 01:20, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Sorry about the snap

Again, sorry I snapped at you. That wasn't my intent but I have grown accustomed to being insulted, discredited and degraded because I think Admins should have to follow the same rules as editors. I hope your doing well these days. I have pretty much given up on being allowed to edit and I expect this IP will be blocked again soon. Cheers. 138.162.8.58 (talk) 22:09, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

No big deal, happens all the time, unfortunately... ansh666 22:11, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for being so gracious and indeed it does unfortunately. Alright, back to doing a few more edits before this IP gets blocked in the spirit of "protecting" Wikipedia from helpful edits.:-) 138.162.8.58 (talk) 22:24, 23 February 2015 (UTC)
No problem...good luck with that (already blocked, oof). Though you were kind of right, that comment wasn't exactly constructive. I should stop doing that, I guess. ansh666 05:56, 24 February 2015 (UTC)

Procedure above progress?

At Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Christopher Garnett (politician) (2nd nomination): "All of the articles are redirects, hence should be discussed at WP:RfD." So if it should be raised there, why didn't you raise it there. Or is it better to simply prevent things that so obviously should happen from happening in this project? Kevin McE (talk) 23:20, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

Because the arguments that you gave at the AfD are useless at RfD, and I can't read your mind. ansh666 23:37, 11 March 2015 (UTC)

AFD for fraternity incident

I see you closed the AFD in less than a day, conveniently when there weren't many pro-deletion editors. Should we not have waited a few more days until more editors decide? This is disappointing.Zigzig20s (talk) 00:30, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

No, see WP:SNOW, which I cited in the close. This incident is only going to get more notable as time goes on, as more people react to and write about it. ansh666 00:32, 13 March 2015 (UTC)

LA edit-a-thons on March 18 (tomorrow!) and 28

Wadewitz memorial edit-a-thon (3/18), Redondo Loves Wikipedia (3/28)

Dear fellow Wikipedian,

The LA Wikipedia community has two events in this second half of March -- please consider attending!

First, there is a memorial edit-a-thon in honor of the prolific LA Wikipedian Adrianne Wadewitz, which is being held downtown on March 18 (tomorrow!) from noon to 8pm as a part of the American Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies' annual conference. Please drop by to contribute your own work or teach other users how to write for Wikipedia.

Second, there will be an event at the Redondo Beach Public Library (following up on last month's session), in collaboration with the Redondo Beach Historical Society. Please join us from 10am to noon on Saturday, March 28 at the main branch of the Redondo Beach Public Library!

I hope to see you there! Calliopejen1 (talk) - via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:39, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Aril Fools Day Page

I'd like to discuss the Wikipedia:April Fools/April Fools' Day 2015 page, specifically my log out gag. It was one of the more original gags pulled, and took me a long time to come up with. I'm not sure why you keep on deleting it, since it was in an appropriate section and no longer takes the form of its original gag. You listed concerns about WP:Beans, but I don't believe that this is a serious issue. No Wikipedia vandal is going to go this deep into the underbelly of Wikipedia, and the fact that wikilinks can be created with titles that have nothing to do with its redirect location is common knowledge anyways. Besides, I fail to see how this joke would be more disruptive than any other April Fools Day joke if abused. Listing the gag is absolutely harmless, and I respectfully request that you let me have my little spot of glory. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 00:25, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Spirit, do you think I would have responded that way if you were the first to come up with it? Someone does it every year, and every year it's removed over privacy concerns (e.g. someone could click on it and not realize they're logged out, revealing their IP when posting). Sorry, but that's how it is. ansh666 03:30, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
But the mention you removed did not actually lead to the log-out page, so its impossible for this to occur. I'm just not seeing the harm of mentioning that such a gag took place, especially if its a common April Fools gag. If anything, mentioning that it took place will make people more diligent comes April Fools 2016.Spirit of Eagle (talk) 03:46, 5 April 2015 (UTC) Ok, I see your point and I'll drop the issue. Spirit of Eagle (talk) 03:57, 5 April 2015 (UTC)

Your common.css page

Hi; I notice that in User:Ansh666/common.css you have the CSS rule

.ambox-Orphan{display: inherit !important;}

- please note that there is an error in this (almost certainly copied from an old version of Template:Orphan#Visibility) which causes incorrect display in some browsers.

To check this, visit this page and look at the second bullet (the one that precedes the text "This article is an orphan ..."). If this bullet is not in the same alignment as the other four, but displaced to the left, you can fix it by altering inherit to table in the CSS rule mentioned earlier. If that doesn't work either, alter it to block.

Template:Orphan#Visibility has been amended. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:18, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Why did you insist on making navigation harder?

Was surprised to see you insisting that setting up sub sections by date might be "misleading". Whenever I have to scroll down 20 or 30 pages just to edit, that is a real pain in the arse for me. Why you prefer it, I cannot fathom. I'll leave it at that. Thanks, Scott P. (talk) 23:32, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Hint: if you have the applicable buttons on your keyboard, Ctrl+Home and Ctrl+End bring the cursor to the very top or bottom of the window or text box that the cursor is in. There are lots of other keyboard shortcuts worth looking into that make navigation trivial. ansh666 23:34, 13 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi Ansh666,

I was looking through the AfD history and I saw that you closed this AfD as procedural close. I took a closer look at the article and saw that the creator simply moved the page to a different name. This article still seems to be about the album. The article about the artist himself is at Faramarz Aslani. Can you reconsider your closure?

Thanks, Natg 19 (talk) 02:24, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I notice you're on Wikipedia:List of administrator hopefuls. Wikipedia would benefit from more admins. If you have been editing for more than 12 months (preferably 24+ months), and have been editing fairly consistently for the past 6 months (preferably 12+ months) with at least 100 edits a month (this tool will help) - or an explanation for any gaps, and haven't been blocked in the past three years - or a good explanation for a recent block, don't have a recent history of edit warring or arguing with other editors, feel you can explain why you wish to be an admin, can demonstrate some understanding of Wikipedia's procedures and processes, or know where to go for guidance, and are confident enough to go through a RfA, please get in touch with me. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. thanks for sorting out the renomination for deletion. i'd hit a loop i'd never experienced before and couldn't quite find the solution! Rayman60 (talk) 18:16, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Signpost exit poll

Dear Wikipedian, you recently voted in the ArbCom election. Your username, along with around 155 other usernames of your fellow Wikipedians, was randomly selected from the 2000+ Wikipedians who voted this year, with the help of one of the election-commissioners. If you are willing, could you please participate (at your option either on-wiki via userspace or off-wiki via email) in an exit poll, and answer some questions about how you decided amongst the ArbCom candidates?

If you decide to participate in this exit poll, the statistical results will be published in the Signpost, an online newspaper with over 1000 Wikipedians among the readership. There are about twelve questions, which have alphanumerical answers; it should take you a few minutes to complete the exit poll questionnaire, and will help improve Wikipedia by giving future candidates information about what you think is important. This is only an unofficial survey, and will have no impact on your actual vote during this election, nor in any future election.

All questions are individually optional, and this entire exit poll itself is also entirely optional, though if you choose not to participate, I would appreciate a brief reply indicating why you decided not to take part (see Question Zero). Thanks for being a Wikipedian

The questionnaire

Dear Wikipedian, please fill out these questions -- at your option via usertalk or via email, see Detailed Instructions at the end of the twelve questions -- by putting the appropriate answer in the blanks provided. If you decide not to answer a question (all questions are optional), please put the reason down: "undecided" / "private information" / "prefer not to answer" / "question is not well-posed" / "other: please specify". Although the Signpost cannot guarantee that complex answers can be processed for publication, it will help us improve future exit polls, if you give us comments about why you could not answer specific questions.

Detailed Instructions: you are welcome to answer these questions via usertalk (easiest), or via email (for a modicum of privacy).

how to submit your answers , estimated time required: 2 minutes
  • If you wish to answer via usertalk, go ahead and fill in the blanks by editing this subsection. Once you have completed the usertalk-based exit poll answers, click here to notify the Signpost copy-editor, leave a short usertalk note, and click save. The point of leaving the usertalk note, is to make sure your answers are processed and published.
  • If you wish to answer via email, create a new email to the Signpost column-editor by clicking Special:EmailUser/GamerPro64, and then paste the *plaintext* of the questions therein. Once you have completed the email-based exit poll answers, click here to notify the Signpost column-editor, leave a short usertalk note specifying the *time* you sent the email, and click save. The point of leaving the usertalk note, is to make sure your answers are processed and published (not stuck in the spam-folder).

Processing of responses will be performed in batches of ten, prior to publication in the Signpost. GamerPro64 will be processing the email-based answers, and will strive to maintain the privacy of your answers (as well as your email address and the associated IP address typically found in the email-headers), though of course as a volunteer effort, we cannot legally guarantee that GamerPro64 will have a system free from computer virii, we cannot legally guarantee that GamerPro64 will resist hypothetical bribes offered by the KGB/NSA/MI6 to reveal your secrets, and we cannot legally guarantee that GamerPro64 will make no mistakes. If you choose to answer on-wiki, your answers will be visible to other Wikipedians. If you choose to answer via email, your answers will be sent unencrypted over the internet, and we will do our best to protect your privacy, but unencrypted email is inherently an improper mechanism for doing so. Sorry!  :-)

We do promise to try hard, not to make any mistakes, in the processing and presentation of your answers. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact column-editor GamerPro64, copy-editor 75.108.94.227, or copy-editor Ryk72. Thanks for reading, and thanks for helping Wikipedia. Hello Ansh666:

Did you know ... that back in 1885, Wikipedia editors wrote Good Articles with axes, hammers and chisels?

Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.
