Survey on Talk:Do_not_feed_the_animals: confusing answer?

First, thanks for your continuing support on deleting/moving Do not feed the animals.

Second, I see that you responded to the survey at Talk:Do_not_feed_the_animals, but the survey questions were confusing, and I think you voted "yes" when you meant to vote "no". I've clarified (I hope) the survey question without changing it's real meaning; would you review your answer and make sure it's what you meant to say?

Thanks again, Dan Griscom (talk) 15:40, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Changes to SuggestBot's suggestions

We have changed the number of suggested articles and which categories they are selected from. The number of stubs has been greatly reduced, the number of articles needing sources doubled, and two new categories added (orphans and unencyclopaedic articles). We have also modified the layout of the suggestions and added sortable columns with various types of information about each article. The first two columns are:

Views/Day
Daily average number of views an article's had over the past 14 days.
Quality
Predicted article quality on a 1- to 3-star scale. Placing your cursor over the stars should give you a pop-up describing the article's quality (Low/Medium/High), current assessment class, and predicted assessment class.

The method we use to predict article quality also allows us to assess whether an article might need specific types of work in order to improve its quality. The work needed might not correspond to cleanup tags added to the article, since our method is not based on those. We have added five columns reflecting this work assessment, where a red X indicates improvement is needed. Placing your cursor over an X should give you a pop-up with a short description of the work needed. The five columns seek to answer the following five questions:

Content
Is more content needed?
Headings
Does this article have an appropriate section structure?
Images
Is the number of illustrative images about right?
Links
Does this article link to enough other Wikipedia articles?
Sources
For its length, is there an appropriate number of citations to sources in this article?

SuggestBot picks articles in a number of ways based on other articles you've edited, including straight text similarity, following wikilinks, and matching your editing patterns against those of other Wikipedians. It tries to recommend only articles that other Wikipedians have marked as needing work. Thanks! Ansh666 21:40, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

You might be right in that these pages probably can't be expanded further; however, so as to retain the content, what would you suggest?

Is there a list-type page? --Qwerty Binary (talk) 03:40, 1 August 2013 (UTC)

Closest I could find was wikt:Appendix:Legal_terms. I'd say these belong more on Wiktionary than Wikipedia. You can create these (or in the case of multifarious, add) there, and then add a WP:Soft redirect (if you do, don't forget to dePROD them). Ansh666 03:43, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Done, I think. Thanks for your help! --Qwerty Binary (talk) 08:25, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Fixed it a bit for you. Of note, your wikt:make one whole page was just deleted as being a copyvio. Ansh666 18:11, 1 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh, that's unfortunate. Thank you for your help throughout this all. --Qwerty Binary (talk) 01:55, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
What exactly is copyright violation on Wiktionary and how does it apply to terms of art? --Qwerty Binary (talk) 01:57, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
It's a WP:Copyright violation (same here as there) - in short, you probably copy-pasted the text from a source. Even with the source cited, that's not okay. Ansh666 06:14, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

I rewrote it as far as it's permissible while retaining the original meaning but not the original phrasing.

In any case, that's all very good and well to say but there are terms with fixed meanings or where there is little latitude for people to change without distorting meaning; a word with no other way to be expressed, such as thousands of terms coined in the sciences, cannot be protected by copyright. One example of this is RNA, ribonucleic acid. Facts, likewise, may not be copyright. --Qwerty Binary (talk) 11:29, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

By the way, I know you're not an administrator or the person who deleted the entry, but I thought your replies have been nothing short of intelligent and insightful as well as informed of site policies. :) Thanks for your replies thus far. --Qwerty Binary (talk)
I know what you mean. On Wikipedia that text would have been fine, but maybe Wiktionary has more stringent policies; I don't know, as I've never really been on there before. Thanks for your compliments, I try my best but few ever notice Ansh666 18:03, 2 August 2013 (UTC)

RE: AFDs

Ok, i will do that from now on. Koala15 (talk) 00:16, 3 August 2013 (UTC)

Re: Stuff...

I certainly am. The article itself needs work and at the moment it has obvious WP:NOTNEWS issues. As for notability, the question, I think, is whether or not it has a longer-term WP:EFFECT. If you consider the ASADA investigation to have resulted from the admission, then I think the effect is obvious. If you consider the admission and ASADA investigation to be the one event (not an immediately obvious conclusion given the broader scope of ASADA's current work) then EFFECT probably isn't there yet. But if you do consider them to be one in the same, are the departures of Evans and Robinson enough to meet WP:EFFECT? I certainly think the article needs to be more than just a "timeline of events" but I think the subject itself is probably notable. A good candidate for a proper clean-up I think. Stalwart111 09:21, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, it needs that. These guys might be able to help. Stalwart111 23:28, 4 August 2013 (UTC)

List of Russian inventions

You have given me advice in the past...I need your help with the List of Russian inventions. I have added a speedy deletion tag to said page. Unfortunately, I appear to have made a mistake (error code) and I have no idea how to fix it. I would appreciate it if you could review it and tell me what you think.

P.S. The page has received less than one click a day for the last 90 days. So, it may not be worth the effort. --RAF910 (talk) 23:11, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

I did not expect you to respond so quickly and to fix it for me...Thank You --RAF910 (talk) 23:24, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

How do I go about merging two articles?

You have been very helpful in the past...

As of August 2013, Izhmash and Izhevsk Mechanical Plant have been merged together and formally renamed Kalashnikov Concern [[2]]. I have already renamed the Izhmash article to Kalashnikov Concern, but I don't know how to go about merging the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant into it. The, Progress R&D Technical Institute, Vyatsko-Polyansky Machine Works and L.N. are not on Wiki so they are of no concern.

Thank You--RAF910 (talk) 20:44, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

This isn't really my area of expertise here - I deal mostly with inclusion/deletion policy, not content work. Personally, I think that Izhevsk Mechanical Plant can stay (as notability isn't temporary), but needs a new section dealing with the company merger and saying that it's no longer active on its own; while the Kalashnikov Concern page already mentions it, the section at the bottom could expand a bit on the recent news (since it's still talking about the merger proposal). I'm not sure how active WikiProject Russia is, but you might want to ask on their talkpage or one of the editors here (minus the last guy, he's community banned). Hope this helps, Ansh666 22:08, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

O.K. sounds good. I will add the merge info to the bottom of the page...Thanks again--RAF910 (talk) 22:39, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

Few

I take it you don't consider four to be "few"? —Psychonaut (talk) 08:09, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

Not intending to pile on, but I am in a agreement with Psychonaut...few is few, and SPA tag criteria are met. While I can understand your reasons for this edit, there is always a worry when an account with 4-lifetime-edits (now 5) states "I think there is enough coverage out there for this article to be rewritten. I'd even be willing to take a stab at it."[3] Even if not a SPA, the account feels like one... as it is rare that brand new accounts with almost no edit history find their way to AFD and offer to rewrite articles. Though appreciating his sentiment, I was going to so tag him myself until I saw you un-tagged him. And the fact that a brand new account properly formatted a citation almost makes one think, that even if not a very lucky SPA, this may be a puppet. Schmidt, Michael Q. 11:17, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

The problem is, you can't tag an account that clearly isn't a SPA with the SPA tag! They may have very few edits, but the majority are outside of this subject area. They could be a puppet, of course, or a clean start or a longtime IP editor who finally decided to make an account (like User:Someone not using his real name, sorry about the ping) or even just a really lucky newbie. I might tend to WP:AGF to the extreme, but clearly this isn't a case of WP:SPA (at least not in the subject area you claim it is). Don't bite the newbies, anyone?
