Hello. Do we not have an article about this please? Would you like to create it?Zigzig20s (talk) 02:50, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

User:Carptrash and User:Magnolia677: Are you interested in working on this too please?Zigzig20s (talk) 01:13, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
@Zigzig20s: I might get around to this eventually (I added the "not done" symbol as a reminder), but creating a stub doesn't take long, so I'm curious why you don't make one yourself? ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:14, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Because I'm in full Work Bitch mode in real life, but I'd love the distraction of reading and doing minor edits on more articles about Confederate monuments. Also, better create them before they get removed as it may lead other editors to take and upload pictures.Zigzig20s (talk) 01:18, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
I have three or four articles that I am working on right now, but will try and get something started. Carptrash (talk) 01:24, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Thank you! Please ping me when you do.Zigzig20s (talk) 01:25, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
👍 Like Thanks, Carptrash! ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:29, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
User:Carptrash: Is the statue resting on his 'Grave' as Commons seems to be suggesting?Zigzig20s (talk) 02:40, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Well, let's see what we can dig up. Carptrash (talk) 02:43, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
User:Carptrash: See also: "Nashville is also home to another statue of Forrest that has been described as “terrifying,” with eyes that glow “like a flesh-eating zombie on bath salts,” as a Washington Post reporter once wrote. Despite efforts to remove it, the statue still stands.". This gives more info. Would you mind creating it please?Zigzig20s (talk) 03:12, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
I'll look, but I have actually sworn of the CSA monuments article because I have doctrinal difference with where the list is going and where it has gone. And when I do a stub you ask me to do and then you immediately label it as "low priority" I think,"Hmmm this is bad feng shui." Carptrash (talk) 03:17, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Not at all. That is the standard rating for WikiProjects. We raise the priority level during times of high activity. Please create it if you can!Zigzig20s (talk) 03:18, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Some WikiProjects don't even have priority levels because it is quite meaningless, as there is no deadline to expand articles on Wikipedia.Zigzig20s (talk) 03:19, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
User:Carptrash: See Jack Kershaw. Lots of RS if you google "Bill Dorris Nashville" too.Zigzig20s (talk) 05:16, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
@Carptrash: Please know your work is appreciated by many editors. @Zigzig20s: I don't have a problem with you posting on my talk page, but perhaps a better record would be kept if you posted sources on the article's talk page, instead of using a user page to ping a different user about possible updates. There's no rush to expand all of these articles immediately, so it's probably best to use article talk pages instead of posting lots of specific requests for Carptrash. ---Another Believer (Talk) 07:19, 2 September 2017 (UTC)
Thank you!Zigzig20s (talk) 07:42, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks, I do feel appreciated, I just have some issues with how the Confederate List is progressing and prefer to now concentrate on the Union List instead. If I stumble across pictures in my collection of CSA monuments I will add them. Carptrash (talk) 15:52, 2 September 2017 (UTC)

Just to let you know, I have started Nathan Bedford Forrest Statue in use.Zigzig20s (talk) 04:48, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
And the Nathan Bedford Forrest Bust. I also think this could do with a stand-alone article, but I have to go back to work...Zigzig20s (talk) 06:49, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
In case you're still interested: Confederate Private Monument.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:25, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

WikiCup 2017 September newsletter

Round 4 of the WikiCup has ended and we move forward into the final round. In round 4, a total of 12 FAs, 3 FLs, 44 GAs, 3 FLs, 79 DYKs, 1 ITN and 42 GARs was achieved, with no FPs or FTs this time. Congratulations to Peacemaker67 on the Royal Yugoslav Navy Good Topic of 36 items, and the 12 featured articles achieved by Cas Liber (5), Vanamonde93 (3), Peacemaker67 (2), Adityavagarwal (1) and 12george1 (1). With a FA scoring 200 points, and bonus points available on top of this, FAs are likely to feature heavily in the final round. Meanwhile Yellow Evan, a typhoon specialist, was contributing 12 DYKs and 10 GAs, while Adityavagarwal and Freikorp topped the GAR list with 8 reviews each. As we enter the final round, we are down to eight contestants, and we would like to thank those of you who have been eliminated for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. The lowest score needed to reach round 5 was 305, and I think we can expect a highly competitive final round.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck, and let the best man (or woman) win! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Regional and national interest in PNW wildfires

Extended content
WikiProject Wildfire logo

I think there's an opportunity for Cascadia Wikimedians but struggle to put my finger on it. Pageviews on the Jolly Mountain fire page are increasing exponentially. I noticed that it even tops Kim Kardashian on Google Trends now (no joke). I wish we at least had some people sending photos in from Cle Elum and Ellensburg, if not contributing to the articles themselves for this and the larger Oregon fires. ☆ Bri (talk) 06:32, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Just had another look and "‪‪Eagle Creek‬, ‪Oregon‬, ‪Columbia River Gorge‬, ‪Cascade Locks‬‬" is currently the #1 trending item. #16 is "‪‪Washington‬, ‪Jay Inslee‬, ‪Cle Elum‬‬" ☆ Bri (talk) 06:49, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Wow. Yeah, wildfire articles are pretty foreign to me, and the categories for Oregon and Washington are not very populated, so I figured I'd throw some stubs up to see what would stick and expand. If you're familiar with good sources for identifying notable wildfires with missing articles, I'd be interested to create more stubs. Also, not sure if "season" articles are better than standalone articles for each fire, but the community will sort that out over time. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:12, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
The idea of creating stubs is a good one. Never have created a fire article before Jolly Ridge either, though I had come acrosss a 1905 one called the Yacolt Burn and added some of that to Satsop Hills. So am just following the usual procedure of looking for newspaper sources etc. I usually stay away from the "breaking news" type stuff but am making an exception for this. Rice Ridge Fire in Montana is national #1 fire priority, so will probably go there next. ☆ Bri (talk) 14:39, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
@Bri: Sounds good. I just posted a note at WikiProject Oregon asking folks to help expand stubs and/or create new ones for other notable fires. There doesn't seem to be as much local interest in documenting wildfires at Wikipedia, but hopefully we'll get around to enhancing coverage soon. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:41, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
My experience is that topics of rural interest such as forestry and equestrian topics are significantly under-represented. I think Montanabw talked about this in a San Diego presentation. Another one of our systemic biases. ☆ Bri (talk) 14:47, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
@Bri: Very interesting, though I would also think there are some editors who are very interested in creating and updating articles about fires/wildfires, regardless of their location. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:49, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
If-when you notify the Oregon project you might want to point out the notability guidelines WP:WILDFIRE-NOTE. Most significant right now is probably the acreage minimum, 1,000 ac. ☆ Bri (talk) 15:07, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

@Jmabel: I noticed Joe has uploaded some pictures from Seattle. Maybe he has more ideas for mobilizing editor/contributor engagement. ☆ Bri (talk) 17:30, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

2017 Oregon wildfires

You assessed 2017 Oregon wildfires as an article; it looks more like a List especially if the important fires get there own articles. However, I didn't change the category just in case you had plans to develop it more.--Orygun (talk) 07:12, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

@Orygun: I think the goal is to continue expanding the article's prose. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:05, 7 September 2017 (UTC)

Milli Fire accessment

  • What is Milli Fire article missing? I think it's pretty comprehensive article with detailed day-by-day chronology of events. In fact, it includes virtually everything published on that wildfire event with multiple sources for almost every fact. I just don’t see how that could be START level article. Wiki-Fire rep rated Cinder Butte Fire article as "B" and it covers much less ground than Milli Fire article. Respectfully request you re-access rating for that article.--Orygun (talk) 22:02, 18 October 2017 (UTC)
    • @Orygun: Sure, no problem. I actually rated the article before seeing your comment at WikiProject Oregon. I was going to wait and see if anyone took on the task of assessing, but I'll go ahead and upgrade now. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:16, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

Omnion (Hercules and Love Affair album)

If you acknowledge that the disambiguation isn't necessary, then why did you create it at a disambiguated namespace? Did you not want to create content at one of Zawl's redirects? Ss112 21:01, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

@Ss112: Because I assumed there were pages of similar name and created the redirect straight from the artist's page. I created new pages all the time, and I made a mistake by failing to check beforehand. Also, not the end of the world... ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:03, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
...Didn't say it was the end of the world. It was a simple question. Ss112 21:04, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Sure, sorry if I came off defensive. Was just acknowledging my mistake and trying to put things in perspective. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:06, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
Er, I just checked, and before you added them, there were no links to that namespace before you added them. From the artist's page...is that what you meant? Ss112 21:07, 5 September 2017 (UTC)
I just meant that from the artist's page I went to the search bar and typed "Omnion (Hercules and Love Affair album)", and created the redirect, before checking to see if "Omnion" was available first. ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:09, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

The article The Feast of the Broken Heart has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

no indication of notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. for coming along behind me and cleaning up some of the messes I've been creating. I realize that lots of these statues are turning out to have at least two versions because the states, when then put one forth for Washington seem to like to keep one for themselves. I just realized that I visited Jo Davidson's statue of Will Rogers in Claymore OK. I am now trying to get jpg versions of my 35mm slides, a process that takes about 45 minutes to do 4 pictures. Gives me time to write. Be seeing you, Carptrash (talk) 04:50, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

@Carptrash: No problem, and thanks for creating and improving so many articles. Completing the statuary hall collection will take a while, but I'd love to see this happen, and I am glad there are a few other editors who are interested in helping. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:57, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
Looking at some Jo Davidson stuff I found this picture, plopped on wikipedia more than 10 years ago. Thanks for bringing it back to my attention. Carptrash (talk) 23:16, 10 September 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I see you recently undid an edit I had made to the redirect Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief in which I converted it from a redirect based on the title of a non-notable song to a redirect to the English nursery rhyme and 1927 poem by A.A. Milne (see here and here). The nursery rhyme and poem predate the title and the lyrics to the song by at least 80 years, don't they? And since we already have an article on Tinker, Tailor which covers this fact, shouldn't the redirect go there? At the very best, we need a disambiguation page, though a hat note on the nursery rhyme article is all that is probably necessary. I'm not sure I understand your meaning from the edit summary where you write, Restore much more appropriate and purposeful redirect; otherwise we'll have to create redirect for all this + "(song) (do you mean "Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief (song)?" Because that is not at all necessary! Can I show you? Am even less certain how you mean "appropriate" or "purposeful", though). KDS4444 (talk) 02:04, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

@KDS4444: If you feel that strongly, feel free to revert. I went ahead and created Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief (song) and Tinker Tailor Soldier Sailor Rich Man Poor Man Beggar Man Thief (Radiohead song) as redirects, just in case. I just assumed if someone was taking time to type out this long text specifically, they would be looking for information about the song. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:25, 12 September 2017 (UTC)
And fair enough, except that the Wikipedia search box attempts to show readers possible article titles as they type— I wanted to learn more about the poem, and began typing "Tinker taylor"... When I saw the full line, I thought I had found the poem, only to land on a page about a song I had never heard of and not even a link anywhere to the poem or nursery rhyme (and not even an article with "tinker taylor" in the title, but a only redirect). Eventually I discovered that there was indeed a good article match (even better than a redirect!), but the redirect did not point to it! Which was why I changed it. If you are okay with me changing it back, I would very much like to do so. Thanks for hearing my argument. KDS4444 (talk) 06:43, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Paul Abrahamian requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Dallas, Texas, removes R. E. Lee statue by UO Pioneer sculptor. – Jonesey95 (talk) 16:16, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: Thanks! Funny, I just suggested this and made a reminder to myself at Talk:Removal of Confederate monuments and memorials (with this diff). ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:20, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
@Jonesey95:  Done I've created a stub at Robert E. Lee (Proctor). ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:36, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
It is quite beautiful--shame it is so divisive. What is it made of?Zigzig20s (talk) 17:14, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
@Zigzig20s: Not sure. I assume bronze, but more research is needed. I just had time to create the stub, for now. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:20, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
According to Wildlife and Western Heroes: Alexander Phimister Proctor, Sculptor, it is bronze. Carptrash (talk) 17:26, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
@Carptrash: Thanks for confirming. I've already added a bronze category and medium to the infobox, if you're able to add the source as an inline citation. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:31, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

When you are doing "medium" in the info box or elsewhere there is no reason to include the word "sculpture." A definition is "medium refers to the materials that are used to create a work of art." So it's sort of redundant.Carptrash (talk) 17:47, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

OK, feel free to pipe "Bronze sculpture" to "Bronze" where you see fit. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:05, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
@Carptrash: Actually, per documentation at Template:Infobox artwork, "bronze sculpture" seems appropriate (see "medium" under "Parameters"). ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:10, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks. I suppose as opposed to "Water color painting", or "oil painting" or "stone sculpture" or "what ever". I'm thinking, "It's an article about a sculpture so . . . ." but that's what I get for thinking, I get to be wrong. Carptrash (talk) 18:58, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
PS, I did just post a question at Template talk:Infobox artwork, it will be interesting to see what, if any, reply is forthcoming. Carptrash (talk) 19:06, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
Great! ---Another Believer (Talk) 19:08, 15 September 2017 (UTC)
If you can find out when it was dedicated (at least the month), I can look for more RS on Newspapers.com. I've just tried to do a search for "Robert E. Lee" in Texas in 1936, but too many irrelevant matches come up.Zigzig20s (talk) 10:29, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
@Zigzig20s: Searching "Robert E. Lee"+"Proctor" may be your best bet. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:12, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

@Carptrash: Thanks for confirming! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:03, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

This is an attempt at new technology for me - never my strong point -. This is from Proctor's autobiography. I found the date June 13th elsewhere, this seems to confirm the 12th. to discover that, after I added sites in Iowa to the List of Union Civil War monuments and memorials, places I'd visited and photographed, you'd added Citation Needed to them all. This after I have tracked down citations for other projects of yours. Are you now going to put a cit needed tag on everything on that list, or is it just the ones I add? Yes, I am in a sh***y mood. But have not been drinking. Carptrash (talk) 21:24, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

User:Carptrash: If there is no RS, it's WP:OR. I sympathize because I know a lot of monuments and memorials are not covered in RS--but please don't delete content clearly backed by RS like the only Confederate marker in Wyoming from List of monuments and memorials of the Confederate States of America! Now we have to spend time debating whether it should be restored or not, even though RS should overrule any "concern" one might have! I have returned the Wyoming headstone. Please explain on that talk page why you believe this headstone should be listed and whether all the other should/should not be. I apologize for not pinging you, as you know traffic on that page makes that difficult. My real concentration is trying to produce a Union chart like the CSA one that is so debated. A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Trump Unity Bridge is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Trump Unity Bridge until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. @Bri: Thanks for doing some research before casting your vote. Can't say all AfD participants do the same. And I'd say the article should be safe, too, except I've seen articles about other notable topics deleted, which I then had to fight to rescue. One people under one God

When it comes to the 2016 elections, you have more experience than I do with choosing article topics and titles that stick. I want to start something like talking about the phrase "One people under one God saluting one flag" that candidate Trump used during election season (I mentioned it at the Trump Bridge talkpage). Do you think it would be better to try to fit it into one of the existing articles? I have about nine fifteen sources that I feel are really good which you can see here. What do you think? ☆ Bri (talk) 18:09, 20 September 2017 (UTC)

@Bri: I'd say it's worth moving into the main space and seeing what happens. I'd also say expect an AfD nomination, since most Trump-related articles seem to get thrown into that pipeline. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:36, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Okay here goes. My opinion is outright deletion would be wildly inappropriate with this many hih quality sources. But merging would be awkward too, also partly because of the number of sources. ☆ Bri (talk) 23:39, 20 September 2017 (UTC)
Good luck! Fingers crossed, ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:41, 21 September 2017 (UTC)

The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Spirit of the Confederacy. Stub sorting

Hello Another Believer,

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Category:Statues of Presidents of the United States

Discussion re: category sorting

It seems to me that the listing at Category:Statues of Presidents of the United States really should be by the President's last name. This would mean changing the Defaultsorts to things like Garfield, James A. Memorial or maybe, Garfield, James A Garfield Memorial., however we'd like it to show up. . Most of these articles don't seem to have a defaultsort, but I am sure I have not thought out all the possible ramifications of doing this so am wondering what you think. Or do you feel it's okay the way it is? I'd like to see all the Garfields together, but maybe that is just me. Carptrash (talk) 00:45, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

@Carptrash: Yes, sorting by last name would be helpful, and DEFAULTSORT is probably the best option. I'll try to keep this in mind when creating new stubs, and I've worked to make Category:National Statuary Hall Collection sorted by last name. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:48, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
So we are agreed? At least until someone come up screaming, "You've just ruined my last 6 months worth of edits" or some such thing. I'm going with the "Garfield, James A Garfield Memorial" option, Last name and then the title of the monument. We'll figure out the Roosevelts when we gt there. Carptrash (talk) 00:51, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
@Carptrash: Um, I admit, I tend not to use DEFAULTSORT and just sort for each category (example: [[Category:Statues of Presidents of the United States|Reagan, Ronald]]), but I assume most people are ok using DEFAULTSORT for articles named after people. ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:53, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
I didn't really know that your way was an option, but I've done these, I guess it doesn't really matter how it's done as long as we are okay with how it's coming out. Which seems to be all right. Carptrash (talk) 01:20, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
@Carptrash: I'm having to correct the formatting on some of these, but editors will sort this out eventually. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:23, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
@Carptrash: Actually, I have to change my mind here. I am not sure we should be using DEFAULTSORT, now that I think about it. This makes the page sort by last name in ALL categories on the page, which may not be necessary. I think we should sort the way I described above. See some of the articles in Category:National Statuary Hall Collection for examples of how to sort by last name. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:25, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the two new categories, the statues of U.S. presidents and the Statuary Hall collection, both logical categories to have on Wikipedia and each informative and interesting. Nice work. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:02, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
@Randy Kryn: Thanks! Carptash and I are still plugging away at Talk:National Statuary Hall Collection, slowly but surely, to create stubs for all state statues in the collection. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:07, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
A lot of statues and research to go on that predominately red-linked list, quite the project. Not one I feel a pull toward, but very worthwhile. Such a major task that I hope you both only work on them when it's fun. Your statue project will fill in a good deal of history for readers, could be linked in many places, and researchers will eventually grab much of it as 'background research' and write a book. That's what I expect from a category like 'Dogs in art' (and congrats on the save of the Titian/dogs category), someone to use it as an already-compiled start-of-a-list for the foundation of a really good book (although I hope anyone doing that knows that there are still a large percentage of dogs-in-art pages not yet represented with full articles on Wikipedia). I wish more people knew how fun it is to "work" on Wikipedia, which is still young enough to have plenty of room to roam and be surprised at what has or hasn't been done. Randy Kryn (talk) 02:24, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

I thought that I understood how to do the Presidential statues category thing, but no. There is a section (or maybe the whole article) of Fountain of the Centaurs that needs to be included in the Thomas Jefferson section, but my attempt failed. Can you please take a look at it? Also I am about to invade another of the Jeffersons with an addition that we might need to talk about. Probably tomorrow. Carptrash (talk) 02:59, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

@Carptrash: Your sort command was correct. When I viewed the category, I saw "Fountain of the Centaurs" under "J" for "Jefferson". However, I removed this command from the article because the article's title doesn't mention Jefferson at all. I think you should only sort by last name for articles referencing the person's name. Does that make sense? In other words, I understand you want to group all Jefferson depictions, but someone viewing the Presidential statues category would have no idea why Fountain of the Centaurs appears under "J". ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:16, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
Also, might be time to consider creating Category:Statues of Thomas Jefferson. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:39, 29 September 2017 (UTC)
@Another Believer: I've had many of those same thoughts, but as often is the case, was bold. Not always the best policy. The Jefferson category for sure. I am working on the Bitter Jefferson, waiting to hear from some librarians in Portland, but eventually the "Louisiana Purchase" panel at the Centaurs fountain will have its own article. At that point I'll return it to the Jefferson category. Searching for Jefferson statues is somewhat complicated with the deluge of "Jefferson Davis" replies. Oh well. Carptrash (talk) 16:15, 29 September 2017 (UTC)

I am wondering

why you changed the picture in the Henry Mower Rice (Triebel) article? The one there is used in several other places and it seemed that some variety was in order. Also the Smithsonian has just changed the dedication date on the Thomas Jefferson (Bitter) statue in Portland. Carptrash (talk) 00:38, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

@Carptrash: Oh! I thought the image was of higher quality and just assumed maybe you didn't know there was more than one image of the subject at Commons. But I don't feel strongly, so I'm fine reverting my change. And thanks for the note re: Jefferson. ---Another Believer (Talk) 01:08, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Why is a citation needed tag

by the dedication date for Po'pay (Fragua) when I posted my dedication program which has the date clearly printed on it? That is why I posted that and removed the tag. Should I add ref Dedication Program by the date ? Carptrash (talk) 02:45, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

@Carptrash: Information at Wikipedia needs to be verifiable by reliable secondary sourcing. Appropriate sourcing might be a newspaper article confirming the dedication date, in the form of an inline citation, otherwise readers may not be easily able to tell where the information came from. ---Another Believer (Talk) 03:14, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Hi. Thankyou for your participation in the challenge series or/and contests. In November The Women in Red World Contest is being held to try to produce new articles for as many countries worldwide and occupations as possible. There will be over $4000 in prizes to win, including Amazon vouchers and paid subscriptions. If this would appeal to you and you think you'd be interested in contributing new articles on women during this month for your region or wherever please sign up in the participants section. The articles done may also count towards the ongoing challenge. If you're not interested in prize money yourself but are willing to participate and raise money to buy books about women for others to use, this is also fine. Help would also be appreciated in drawing up the lists of missing articles. If you think of any missing articles please add them to the sub lists by continent at Missing articles. Thankyou, and if taking part, good luck!♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:52, 5 October 2017 (UTC)

Wow, quick! Not sure I agree with this description either but I'm not going to make a thing about every change.
Do you remember having NPOV issues with other articles? I think there was a Southwestern attorney but don't recall the article title. Oh, also these two you deleted from the list had been created by an undisclosed paid-editing sockfarm. ☆ Bri (talk) 23:46, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
@Bri: I don't remember there being other COI issue, nor a Southwestern attorney. But would they be listed at WP:420? Thanks for the heads up re: the deleted WP:420 articles -- I just assumed they were deemed non-notable post-creation. --Another Believer (Talk) 00:54, 7 October 2017 (UTC)

Resolved

The article South Kensington crash has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello. I was wondering if you thought we should create Category:Sculptures of African-Americans, and if so, which articles we could add please? Surely there must be at least some?Zigzig20s (talk) 16:53, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

@Zigzig20s: Hey! Instead of creating a category for the sake of creating one, we should first identify the parent article(s). Would Category:Art depicting people and Category:Sculptures by subject be the parent categories? I'm trying to find an appropriately subcategory in Category:African-American society. ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:35, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Ah! Seems User:Carptrash beat me/us to the punch. I'll try to help populate the category. Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:36, 25 October 2017 (UTC)

Editors who create at least four articles will receive a Wikipedia Asian Month postcard!

Also be sure to check out the Wikipedia Asian Art Month affiliate event - creating articles on Asian art topics can get you a Metropolitan Museum of Art postcard!

If you're interested, please sign up here for the English Wikipedia. If you are interested in also working on other language editions of Wikipedia, please visit the meta page to see other participating projects. If you have any questions, please visit our talk page.

Thank you!

WikiCup 2018

So the 2017 WikiCup has come to an end. Congratulations to the winner, to the other finalists and to all those who took part. 177 contestants signed up, more than usual, but not all of them submitted entries in the first round. Were editors attracted by the cash prizes offered for the first time this year, or were these irrelevant? Do the rules and scoring need changing for the 2018 WikiCup? If you have a view on these or other matters, why not join in the WikiCup discussion about next year's contest? Assessment for Houston-related article

JW Marriott Downtown Houston

Hi Another Believer:

I created JW Marriott Downtown Houston in December of 2014. You assigned it to Houston Wikiproject in January 2015, but it has not been rated yet. I have a request for assistance, if you don't mind. Wikipedia seems to be running the assessment and reassessment processes through the Wikiprojects. I did not see a place to request assessment and reassessment through the Wikiproject Houston. I have been editing some Houston-related articles, and many of these warrant a reassessment. Perhaps I have misunderstood these processes. If it is not too much trouble, would you mind instructing me on this? Thanks, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 09:06, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

@Oldsanfelipe: Thanks for your work on so many Houston-related articles. I see your user name on Wikipedia often. To be honest, you shouldn't overthink the assessment ratings or avoid assessing your own articles. I rarely worry about differentiating between Start-class, C-class, and B-class. Stubs are easy to identify. Most of the time I just rate articles as Start-class, then promote to Good article status after a successful review. The differences between Start, C, and B can be a bit subjective. ---Another Believer (Talk) 14:58, 7 November 2017 (UTC)
@Another Believer: Thanks for stepping in.
Many of the articles I have worked on will never be GA. JW Marriott Downtown Houston is one example. There is not enough secondary literature about the subject to tell a comprehensive story. Even including biographical material about SF Carter would not get it there. In other cases, I just don't know enough about the subject to make the article that much better on my own.
Jesse H. Jones is an article that has potential for GA and beyond. I have been working on it, but there are still gaps in the narrative, verification of sources, and formatting issues before it warrants a GA. An article I just created, Streckfus Steamers, has GA-potential. Much of it is based on a book called Jazz on the River. I was borrowing a library copy, and I will need to check it out again. There are so many details that I am not sure that I am remembering correctly. cheers, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 22:33, 7 November 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewing

Hello, Another Believer.

As one of Wikipedia's most experienced Wikipedia editors,
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 21:36, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – December 2017

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2017).

Administrator changes

added Joe Roe
readded JzG
removed EricorbitPercevalThinggTristanbVioletriga

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, a new section has been added to the username policy which disallows usernames containing emoji, emoticons or otherwise "decorative" usernames, and usernames that use any non-language symbols. Administrators should discuss issues related to these types of usernames before blocking.

Technical news

Arbitration

Miscellaneous

  • Over the last few months, several users have reported backlogs that require administrator attention at WP:ANI, with the most common backlogs showing up on WP:SPI, WP:AIV and WP:RFPP. It is requested that all administrators take some time during this month to help clear backlogs wherever possible. It should be noted that AIV reports are not always valid; however, they still need to be cleared, which may include needing to remind users on what qualifies as vandalism.
  • The Wikimedia Foundation Community health initiative is conducting a survey for English Wikipedia contributors on their experience and satisfaction level with Administrator’s Noticeboard/Incidents. This survey will be integral to gathering information about how this noticeboard works (i.e. which problems it deals with well and which problems it struggles with). If you would like to take this survey, please sign up on this page, and a link for the survey will be emailed to you via Special:EmailUser.

ArbCom 2017 election voter message

Hello, Another Believer. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:You're the puppet

Hello, Another Believer. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "You're the puppet".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. TKK! bark with me! 23:22, 9 December 2017 (UTC)

"Apple of Sodom"

Hi Another Believer, I seen that you're a huge fan of lots of different types of music! I have recently radically changed the article for "Apple of Sodom" by Marilyn Manson, a song about Fiona Apple. If I were to nominate it for GA status, would you be willing to review it? MagicatthemovieS - User talk:MagicatthemovieS 14:20, 12 December 2017 (UTC)

@MagicatthemovieS: Hey! I know I should do reviews to help reduce the backlog (and because I've requested so many myself), but I don't conduct Good article reviews. Honestly, I enjoy creating content much more than reviewing content submitted by others, and this is just how I prefer to spend my time contributing to Wikipedia. I appreciate the invitation, though. (Be prepared to wait -- an article I nominated for Good status eight months ago was just picked up for review, and likely only because I asked a specific editor for help.) I will, however, take a look at the article out of curiosity and to see if I can contribute. Thanks for all your work here! ---Another Believer (Talk) 00:05, 13 December 2017 (UTC)

Hiya, I wouldn't worry too much about making it look pretty at this point. I usually leave all that until I've finished the prose (I think you've seen at least a few of my previous war memorial articles). Not that I want to put you off; you're very welcome, I just wouldn't want you to spend ages prettyfying it only to see that the article has completely changed! I'm also contemplating moving it to Royal Naval Division War Memorial, which is the name Historic England use and is consistent with other articles. Do you have any strong feelings about that? Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 18:06, 17 December 2017 (UTC)

@HJ Mitchell: Thanks for the heads up! Glad to see you working on the article, and you're welcome to move as you see fit. Thanks again! ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:19, 17 December 2017 (UTC)
Right. It's unlikely to change drastically now. I need to add a lead, a bit more background on the RND, I need to track down a source for Asquith's connection to Lutyens (cf. Mells War Memorial, which Asquith unveiled and which has his brother's name on it), and I need to go through some of the more general books on war memorials and the biographies of Lutyens (mostly just to pad out the bibliography and demonstrate that it's a "representative survey of the relevant literature"). It would be nice if I could find a way to mention the Lancashire Fusiliers War Memorial (and mention the RND in that article) as both fought at Gallipoli and both have Lutyens memorials, though the Lancashire Fusiliers were under the 29th Division. I've never seen a war memorial covered in so much detail besides the Cenotaph! HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 02:37, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

Well, I'm Confused

Good Morning, Mr. Another Believer, I am grateful you thanked me on my 2nd Ave edit, I thought it was helpful. However, I found it hypocritical that my work was reversed afterwards. I'm willing to not think much of this, but this irony goes against every social convention I know of, so I'm Confused.

May you please explain? Zanygenius (talk) 15:58, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

@Zanygenius: Yes, at first I was pleased to see work done on the article, but then I was confused by all the zeros and "N/A"s. Also, I clicked on the coordinates for the supposed north end of the street, which were incorrect. After viewing your edit history, I saw you've made few edits (at least under this account), so to be honest, I assumed maybe you were just messing with the article and not making the most constructive edits. If you'd like to discuss the article further, I invite you over to Talk:2nd Avenue (Portland, Oregon). Thanks! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:05, 20 December 2017 (UTC)
@Another Beliver: Oh yes, the junctions. I had limited time, and was planning to go back in and fix them. But for now I'll leave it alone. Same applies to coordinates. Alright, have a good day!

Zanygenius (talk) 16:24, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

@Zanygenius: If you have improvements to make to the article, by all means, but maybe work on the talk page until your edits are "complete", otherwise they may be interpreted as non-constructive. Happy editing! ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:27, 20 December 2017 (UTC)

Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News

Guild of Copy Editors December 2017 News

Hello copy editors! Welcome to the December 2017 GOCE newsletter, which contains nine months(!) of updates. The Guild has been busy and successful; your diligent efforts in 2017 has brought the backlog of articles requiring copy edit to below 1,000 articles for the first time. Thanks to all editors who have contributed their time and energy to help make this happen.

Our copy-editing drives (month-long backlog-reduction drives held in odd-numbered months) and blitzes (week-long themed editing in even-numbered months) have been very successful this year.

March drive: We set out to remove April, May, and June 2016 from our backlog and all February 2017 Requests (a total of 304 articles). By the end of the month, all but 22 of these articles were cleared. Officially, of the 28 who signed up, 22 editors recorded 257 copy edits (439,952 words). (These numbers do not always make sense when you compare them to the overall reduction in the backlog, because not all editors record every copy edit on the drive page.)

April blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 16 through 22 April; the theme was Requests. Of the 15 who signed up, 9 editors completed 43 articles (81,822 words).

May drive: The goals were to remove July, August, and September 2016 from the backlog and to complete all March 2017 Requests (a total of 300 articles). By the end of the month, we had reduced our overall backlog to an all-time low of 1,388 articles. Of the 28 who signed up, 17 editors completed 187 articles (321,810 words).

June blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 18 through 24 June; the theme was Requests. Of the 16 who signed up, 9 editors completed 28 copy edits (117,089 words).

2017 Coordinator elections: In June, coordinators for the second half of 2017 were elected. Jonesey95 moved back into the lead coordinator position, with Miniapolis stepping down to remain as coordinator; Tdslk and Corinne returned as coordinators, and Keira1996 rejoined after an extended absence. Thanks to all who participated!

July drive: We set out to remove August, September, October, and November 2016 from the backlog and to complete all May and June 2017 Requests (a total of 242 articles). The drive was an enormous success, and the target was nearly achieved within three weeks, so that December 2016 was added to the "old articles" list used as a goal for the drive. By the end of the month, only three articles from 2016 remained, and for the second drive in a row, the backlog was reduced to a new all-time low, this time to 1,363 articles. Of the 33 who signed up, 21 editors completed 337 articles (556,482 words).

August blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 20 through 26 August; the theme was biographical articles tagged for copy editing for more than six months (47 articles). Of the 13 who signed up, 11 editors completed 38 copy edits (42,589 words).

September drive: The goals were to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all August 2017 Requests (a total of 338 articles). Of the 19 who signed up, 14 editors completed 121 copy edits (267,227 words).

October blitz: This one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 22 through 28 October; the theme was Requests. Of the 14 who signed up, 8 editors completed 20 articles (55,642 words).

November drive: We set out again to remove January, February, and March 2017 from the backlog and to complete all October 2017 Requests (a total of 207 articles). By the end of the month, these goals were reached and the backlog shrank to its lowest total ever, 997 articles, the first time it had fallen under one thousand (click on the graph above to see this amazing feat in graphical form). It was also the first time that the oldest copy-edit tag was less than eight months old. Of the 25 who signed up, 16 editors completed 159 articles (285,929 words).

2018 Coordinator elections: Voting is open for the election of coordinators for the first half of 2018. Please visit the election page to vote between now and December 31 at 23:59 (UTC). Thanks for participating!

Housekeeping note: We do not send a newsletter before (or after) every drive or blitz. To have a better chance of knowing when the next event will start, add the GOCE's message box to your watchlist.

Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Miniapolis, Corinne, Tdslk, and Keira1996.

"No pages link to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cannabis/420 Collaboration/2017" is currently reported. You created the archive, did you forget to link to it somewhere? ☆ Bri (talk) 21:41, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

@Bri: Hmm, I just added the link to Wikipedia:WikiProject Cannabis/420 Collaboration and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Cannabis/420 Collaboration. Does that do the trick? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:48, 24 December 2017 (UTC)
Sure. The reason I was looking for it is I had stashed a link to Small's book (no pun intended). Maybe we should have a section explicitly linking books and other resources for editors ☆ Bri (talk) 21:50, 24 December 2017 (UTC)

Merry Munchie Meal

Available in three California Jack in the Box locations for ... guess the price ... $4.20 Bloomberg via The CannabistFresno BeeThe Stranger even the mainstream Food & Wine magazine covered it ... would make an interesting blurb somewhere ☆ Bri (talk) 05:42, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

@Bri: Hah! Perhaps an article on Cannabis advertising/Cannabis marketing? Might also be worth mentioning in the 4/20 and/or Cannabis in California articles. ---Another Believer (Talk) 07:41, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
I'd love to do a bit on advertising in the legalized states if we can do it w/o crossing into OR. The newsweeklies like The Stranger are one thing, but the fact that there are sign spinners and billboards in affluent Eastside communities (and on the Puyallup res adjacent to I-5, have you noticed?) and two-page Chamber of Commerce type ads for tourists in the middle of the upscale Seattle Met is fascinating to me. ☆ Bri (talk) 20:23, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Cannabis advertising resources

Some resources above. I've used Harris-Bricken's law blog before. Tobacco advertising could give us some ideas on where to go with an article. ☆ Bri (talk) 20:30, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

@Bri: Yes, I think Tobacco advertising is helpful. Perhaps you should throw these links over to Draft:Cannabis advertising so they don't get lost in my talk page archives? ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:32, 26 December 2017 (UTC)

Articles for Creation Reviewing

Hello, Another Believer.
AfC submissions
Random submission

994 pending submissions
Purge to update

I recently sent you an invitation to join NPP, but you also might be the right candidate for another related project, AfC, which is also extremely backlogged.
Would you please consider becoming an Articles for Creation reviewer? Articles for Creation reviewers help new users learn the ropes of creating their first articles, and identify whether topics are suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Reviewing drafts doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia inclusion policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After requesting to be added to the project, reviewing is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the reviewing instructions before making your decision. Thanks. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 03:01, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

@Insertcleverphrasehere: Thanks for the invite. I try to review drafts now and then. I've found AfC regulars are way too strict and reject appropriate drafts sometimes, which is unfortunate. Drafts shouldn't have to be perfect to enter the main space... ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:30, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
I totally agree with you! AfC needs more reviewers with exactly that attitude. Common mistakes are unfortunately far too common. Thank you for your help. — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 21:20, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
