Templates

Hey. Check out {{Regions of Ukraine}}, I've updated it to something more streamlined and a lot simpler to read. As such, I really don't think there is a need for {{Administrative divisions of the Ukrainian SSR}} since they are essentially the same thing (I've added a bottom row with the former subdivisions) and currently there are two templates taking up space when we can have just one. What do you say?

I would recommend we keep {{History of Ukraine}} and {{Ukrainian statehood}} together as well, since in all reality they are one and the same thing. Ideally, I see the difference between these two templates, where {{History of Ukraine}} would have articles along the lines of History of Ukraine (1922-1991) and History of Ukraine (1991-Present) as well as events (Ukraine during World War I), with {{Ukrainian statehood}} having articles on the nation-states themselves (as it is now). But we are quite a long way away from having those articles and I figure it is best to keep them merged together for now (until a larger influx of Ukrainian Wikipedia editors!!).

Wow! I love the look of the template "Regions of Ukraine". It looks simply great. Some changes should be made, though. It would be better to rename the template to more general description such as subdivisions of Ukraine (currently titled as such, but named differently). Also, some categories are out place. For example, there is no difference between districts of cities with special status or any other cities, all those districts are created in the individual discretion of city government, thus, categories "Districts of cities with special status" and "Districts of regional cities" should be combined into one. Moreover, the city districts pretty much are the same level of subdivision as a conventional districts in Ukraine. I should point out also to the fact that the template does not include an important category of cities of raion (district) significance. That is a unique category for all cities other than of special status and of regional significance. Those cities usually are small and along with urban settlement can be considered as towns, yet unlike those urban settlements, they have a degree of autonomy within a district jurisdiction where they are located. There is very little information available about those cities and analysis of the category. Other than that the template looks more than wonderful - it's simple, easy on an eye, and very informative covering all major aspects of the administrative division of modern Ukraine. Great job!!! Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 17:18, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
I've made some tweaks to the template. Merged the two raions (cities w/ special status and cities w/ regional importance together). The only reason I had them separate was because of the way KOATUU had them listed (separately). You're right, either way they are one and the same thing. I also tried to make it easier for the reader by changing "District city" to "District-level city" since it would be easy to confuse the former with "City district" for readers who are not familiar with the administrative scheme of Ukraine. Either way they need to re-do the entire administrative scheme of the country from scratch since all of this confusion is left over from Soviet times!
What do you say about {{Ukrainian statehood}}? DDima 18:15, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Great! But there is no need to create a fourth level. Rural settlements (selyshche) do not have any forms of representation or governments, they are like oscillated neighborhoods and usually are part of some settlement council, may it be urban (including city) or rural. I designed a table in the main article about the administrative divisions of Ukraine#Structure based on the 2001 Ukrainian Census. Frankly it is a certain degree of original research as there are no such tables and was created out of a personal perspective. For simplicity the administrative division in Ukraine is based on a structure: region-district-council. Council or "rada" (local name) is a representative body of any settlement and it was inherited from the Soviet administration. Districts are divided into several rural councils (silrada) and/or include other entities such as city councils (miskrada) of district-level cities (district significance) and settlement councils (selyshchna rada). Settlement councils always correspond to urban settlements, therefore other settlements that exist as part of rural councils are not taken into consideration and not mentioned in the Constitution of Ukraine. However that conclusion is based on my own perception and should be reviewed by a real expert, yet I came to it after reading various legislative materials of Verkhovna Rada and conducted a separate web research on the matter. But one should be aware of a fine difference between administrative division and a simple locality. Anyway I hope you will understand where I am coming from. At any rate the look of the template as I said before is terrific and provides an additional appeal aside of technicalities. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 18:46, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Once I ran across some article about the cities of district significance and wanted to interpret it into the Anglophone Wikipedia, but just did not find a time. It is a great article that explained history and reason on creating of such an entity. Maybe later... There also some discussion and I believe a bill on the administrative reform in Ukraine. So, maybe there will be more changes in a future. Considering all your contribution, I feel like you should be aware of all that if did not. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 18:52, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Just wanted to point you folks to this article. Not sure if it would be better to add a Ukraine-specific section to it, or to do Russia and Ukraine on separate pages, as it was done here. Suggestions are welcome. By the by, does Ukraine have urban-type settlements of district significance (i.e., as the administrative divisions equal in status to towns of district significance and selsoviets, only centered around an urban-type settlement)? Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); January 23, 2013; 19:09 (UTC)
Thanks I appreciate it! I think I've spent more time and effort on designing the templates in my entire wiki-career than writing articles themselves.. Anyway, yeah the whole admin. structure is hard to understand (I still struggle with it sometimes lol) but you seem to have a better grasp of it! I removed the fourth level and tweaked it again "urban-type settlements" >>> "settlement councils" since we are sticking with the region-district-council method.
I've been considering re-writing the entire series of Administrative divisions of Ukraine to reflect consistency between names and terminology because the way it is now only you and me can understand it :) as for the casual reader.. I'm sure they will have a more difficult time understanding.. Anyway, for the past year I've been working on creating articles on Urban-type settlements and lately creating Raion articles for those that don't exist. DDima 19:16, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Ezhiki, thanks for the link. I just came across your article City of federal subject significance (I was wondering for a while if there were articles like that for Russian territorial subjects). Anyway, it doesn't matter if we keep them separate or together (if separate perhaps rename them to reflect their status in either Ukraine or Russia (Town of district significance (Russia) for instance..)
I'm not sure but I believe something to that of an "urban-type settlement of district significance" does exist in Ukraine, particularly since there is an urban-type settlement of Teofipol (I'll create an article soon..), yet it is the administrative center of Teofipol Raion.. Something to think about. DDima 19:25, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the information! The reason I asked about the urban-type settlements is that we'll need to organize the Russian/Ukrainian information, if Ukraine has them as well, and it's probably better to do it before hundreds of pages start to link to the new article(s) :) (as they now do to town of district significance).
Anyway, just wanted to let you know that it doesn't really make much difference for WikiProject Russia whether Ukrainian and Russian towns of district significance are covered in one article or separately, but I would appreciate if you could let me know when you decide which way you ultimately want to go. I'll adjust the Russian side accordingly so there are no inter-article conflicts or confusion. Cheers,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); January 23, 2013; 19:44 (UTC)
Conceptual representation of the administrative division of Germany

Good pointer from Ezhiki, thank you as well. I wanted to tell that I liked the way certain portions of the article is written about states of Germany. There is a great chart that help to come up with the table for the Ukrainian counterpart (refer to diagram). Also there are several articles on the web, out of which now I can only recall the Inna Bohoslovska's party Viche website, that have discussions about the proposed administrative reform presenting with some explanation on understanding of current situation and why reform would be beneficial. Also, I think that this article should be transformed into more broader one like an index page rather than being a mere page with purpose of disambiguity. About urban settlement of district significance, I must say that there are no such concept. Urban settlements may be administrative centers of districts, but unlike cities they do not have any significance and that is the main difference between them. I might be mistaken, but I never seen or heard such a term. I can say for certain that there is no urban settlements of regional significance. In regards to the discussed template, DDima, I think it looks now as a well-polished one. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:25, 23 January 2013 (UTC)

Rus' Khaganate

I saw you comment on there and was just wondering, does this article have any justification? I've taken university-level Russian history classes and read Russian history from the big names and never heard of any so-called "Rus Khaganate". Before I go ham on the article, just wondering your opinion since I saw you commenting there a while back--Львівське (говорити) 16:05, 15 February 2013 (UTC) (wasn't sure if i should reply here or on my page)

Rus is an English word just as much as Ruthenia, just the latter is derived from the latin and Rus' from the original slavic. Rus' people and Rus' states tend to pop up more in English sources for this period, whereas 'Ruthenian' starts to be mentioned when you get to the Ruthenian language being adopted in Belarus/Lithuania/Poland, and Medieval texts from western sources (like french or whatever) who refer to the whole lot as Ruthenians.

Anyway, it does seem to be a lot of original research, and I wanted to start by tagging the article for all the source issues (there are a lot of poorly cited, or primary sources) but am already getting reverted immediately so I thought it would be good to ask another active editor just in case I was off-base on this before something errupted. It does seem to be a 'hypothetical' state, and I've already found at least one source saying that the idea of a 'Rus Khaganate' is false. Perhaps there were some khagans up north who were remnants of the khazar rule, or who were in the south mistranslated as 'khagans' due to the linguistics involved, but the idea of a centralized confederation of ruthenian khagans lasting for 100 years just is nonsense.--Львівське (говорити) 14:46, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

This aritcle really irritates me. They are supposing that a christianization of this 'rus khaganate' occured...hundreds of years years before Vladimir began the process. What? --Львівське (говорити) 03:12, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I'm all well aware of the history you mentioned, which is the generally accepted timeline. That said, I think my concern was that this 'christianization' article is listed on the infobox for russian history along with the khaganate part. a) two theories shouldnt be in the general russian history box, and b) the christianization article should deal with rus people, not just this theoretical alliance of tribes/states. It's weird to dedicate an article to a fragment of a fragment.--Львівське (говорити) 04:47, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

More digging. It's looking like it existed, not as the sources describe on the article (that is iffy), but a union between kazar exiles and varangians happened in 830. It was not, however, a precursor to kievan rus, which formed independently in 882 by different varangians, and incorporated the upper volga territory of the 'rus kaganate' into itself.--Львівське (говорити) 01:46, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Funny you mention the celtic origin, in the Magocsi book I'm using as reference he notes a few scholars who believe in the celtic theory for Rus' origins, as opposed to the Norman and anti-Norman schools. As far as the khaganate goes, it does in fact seem to be an actual group of varangians who were influenced by khazar exiles, which makes sense, but it as a state was not a progenitor of the kiev state - it was just another small tribal grouping that was swallowed up when Oleh/g consolidated the territory.--Львівське (говорити) 22:57, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
It's like you're reading the book in front of me....there's also this french connection, I'll end up retyping it for the purpose of the kievan rus article (which btw, along with the khaganate article, are being reverted instantly)--Львівське (говорити) 00:32, 19 February 2013 (UTC)
By all accounts I've read, the 'khagan' title was only used in by this one polity in the upper volga / rostov region, not ukraine (where it would have been used by actual khazars, not rus').--Львівське (говорити) 00:58, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Hey. I don't see the need of having a separate category for this purpose; Category:Neighborhoods and raions of Kiev serves this purpose quite well; everything is combined and particularly since some articles (like Obolon Raion, cover the "administrative entity" along with the "historical neighborhood" in one article)...

Also, per the consensus on Talk:Raions of Ukraine on not changing instances of "raion" to "district", this category should be at Category:Raions of Kiev, and we should create a separate Category:Neighborhoods of Kiev if we were to go the separate route. It just makes sense to keep uniformity throughout the articles among Ukraine-related topics and not confuse the casual browsing reader, like using the term "raion" over "district" in almost all instances.. About "Suffragan" and "vicar"

Dear Aleksandr you made a wrong corrections, because. Suffragan bishop in the current Canon Law of the Latin Church (CIC 1983) not exists, only coadjutor and auxiliary bishops (see: http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/__P1F.HTM). Another things is suffragan diocese, but in this cause in has nothing with bishop Nil Lushchak. The article Suffragan bishop wrote somebody without needing specifications (in the part of the Catholic Church). Also the vicar bishop is only in CIC, but not in CCEO (Canon Low for Eastern Catholic Church). In anyway, impossible to use for eastern hierarch (not prelate!) or member of eparchy (not diocese) CIC terminology. Only the CCEO terminology. But I agree, that very often it's confuse, especially in Wikipedia --Noel baran (talk) 09:06, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

I never heard about it. I read several articles on church administration and never ran across. It's interesting to know. It is good that you keep a watch on it. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:22, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Hey Aleksandr Grigoryev

I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).

So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.

What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.

The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.

If you would like to experiment, you can use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! Hi. Neither ofthe teams you put as seeded are seeded in the next round. The draw occurs after the second leg so the top5 advancing from third round will be seeded. Therefore Maccabi Tel aviv and Molde might not be seeded. For example if Apoel, Austria Wien, Celtic, Steua Bucuresti and Victoria Plzen all go through then Maccabi Tel Aviv will not be seeded. The article Industrial Union of Donbas has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:N (notability), see WP:COMPANY criteria for company notability

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ok, so before I waste our time with AfD, can you try to make this pass WP:COMPANY? --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 16:39, 13 August 2013 (UTC)
I agree with you that it is probably notable, but still as written the article fails to show it. Can you find any mentions of the company in mainstream, reliable sources? Mainstream Ukrainian media would be enough. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 04:16, 17 August 2013 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Industrial Union of Donbas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 13:35, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Yakiv Lizogub

I see that in April you added Yakiv Lizogub in the list of hetmans. Since this is apparently the only hetman without an English Wikipedia article, I thought about creating an article about him. However, after having done some research, I see whatsoever no statements that he was indeed an appointed hetman. Whereas there was no hetman elected between 1733 and 1750, the authority was with "Правление гетманского уряда", which consisted of six members, and I do not even see any evidence that Lizogub was a part of it. Do you have any references which I can use to check this statement?--Ymblanter (talk) 21:21, 29 December 2013 (UTC)

Central europe

Do you think Ukraine should be included in the central Europe article in the rankings?--89.128.236.143 (talk) 03:13, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Ukraine is way too big to include it in whole within the Central Europe, yet its western regions are definitely located there. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 15:13, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
The Geographical midpoint of Europe is no that far from Ukraine, and European Russia alone is 40% of all Europe. I think we should include Ukraine in central Europe. Geopolitically it is still tied to Russia, though, and religiously it is Orthodox. I suppose your proposition of West Ukraine is fair enough. We will see developments in the coming years, though.--89.128.236.143 (talk) 02:52, 19 January 2014 (UTC)
Please do NOT bring up this old chestnut again. We've only come out from under masses of problems with unilateral category moves, etc. based on the mid-point of Europe argument (as well as other rationales). It simply doesn't wash and Wikipedia editors and administrators have lost their patience with such proposals. IP user 89.128.236.143, you're already aware of the Galicia move proposal as you've commented there. Please do not try to WP:CANVASS others in order to promote further disruptive editing. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 05:27, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Wow, Iryna, you are tracking on the issue way too good :). I do nonetheless believe that West Ukraine (including Halychyna) is part of the Central Europe. I also oppose to the Germanized name of Galicia for Halychyna. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 05:45, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

If you check my comments on the Galicia (which shouldn't be Galicia, anyway) I've been advocating for some form of 'it isn't really Eastern Europe'... Discussions on Western Ukraine as NOT Eastern Europe need to be allowed to cool off for a little while, though. Wikipedia admin are still irate about perceived POV push just having taken place (thanks to one silly woman who made a mess of things). The incident has pushed us several steps back. A little patience is needed... then baby steps when the time is right. --Iryna Harpy (talk) 05:58, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Kingdom of Galicia–Volhynia may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:
  • * 1949 Galicia occupied by Poland ([[Casimir III the Great|Casimir III]], Volhynia - Lithuania ([[Liubartas]])

Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 19:07, 20 January 2014 (UTC)

Death toll

Might help to coordinate together on this. How did you get 8-9 deaths from 5-6? I know KP and others are saying 4 shooting deaths now instead of the 2 we have on the page; what is the third? KP also says 5 total (not counting our november 1) so that would be 6-7 TOTAL. --Львівське (говорити) 20:46, 22 January 2014 (UTC)

English

I've noticed your English may not be the best so I'm just going to suggest that when making edits, just keep it simple and get all the facts in. We can figure out proper prose and flow later. Just a friendly tip --Львівське (говорити) 23:07, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Lvivske Not a very nice tip, but I can handle criticism. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 23:31, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
its just that sometimes the syntax of things gets crossed up in a way that reads weird in english. you add a lot of great stuff, just if things are down to the core it's easier to digest (and avoids any potential NPOV issues in the future). sorry if im coming off like a jerk! --Львівське (говорити) 23:59, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Help!

I know that you are watching for vandals, can you kindly watch this guy user talk:200.219.132.104. He is now under user talk:200.219.132.103 and still does destructive editing. Check his edits here and here and many where else. And over here someone gave him a right to revert, so he reverted a bot. Could you be so kind to intervene, as his edits look a lot like destruction.--Mishae (talk) 02:17, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Mishae, frankly, I am not such a good vandal watcher. I raise a flag every now and then. It does not seem that his actions are destructive, although are weird. It seems that he is correcting some code syntax to keep consistency. Did I miss anything? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 02:45, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Well, he put spaces after every carriage and that's his edits. He also substitutes RU and UK icons with (Russian and Ukrainian) which makes difficult to see which site is English and which isn't. According to WP:DEST his edits are considered to be unproductive and in some cases harmful since because of his mania to put spaces he sometimes deletes titles. More, he even substitutes cite news with Citation which makes no sense. Since I don't have revering tool I was forced manually to cite references as well as add those icons back in the Euromaidan article. I could have done more ref citations if not for this guy.--Mishae (talk) 02:57, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Mishae, let's address it with administrators for consideration. The articles are too big to track after all the changes and codes. Your concerns are valid and need to be addressed by somebody with bigger authority to prevent possible roll backs in future. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 03:13, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
I already let user @Kudpung: know, but I think he will be too busy to reply. See, on one hand he had a good edit such trans_title= for foreign articles but on the other hand he doesn't need to move the carriages back and forward and substitute already good text with something less appealing.--Mishae (talk) 03:19, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Mishae, have you posted the issue at WP:ANI? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 03:33, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Well, guess what? I went to ANI, the admin told me to post it to AVI (Also he mentioned that some of the IPs were from Brazil). I posted it to AVI and they removed my comment (twice) at the end saying that it doesn't belong to ANI! I thought that Wikipedia have measures against disruptive editing???!!! Like, do anybody at ANI consider the seriousness of this or its O.K. now to do edits like this without any consequence what so ever. Furthermore, a guy here mentioned about a destructive edit and at the same time says "I fixed it now, but it doesn't warrant a block" and sends a ref to a minor edit. This is ridiculous because I wasted posting those comments till 1 fucking am, trying to convince the admins (which I shouldn't even call them that anymore) to take action. And what's worse, it continues! And this, is after my revert. Although the edit is good overall substitution of Sfn for ref name= doesn't make any sense, also editing author link as Pope Paul VI instead of his biographer's name. Like I smell that his next edit will be here and what's the point?--Mishae (talk) 20:37, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Mishae, Kudpung gave you a good advice filing petition at the "Requests for page protection". That way it would be possible to establish some control over the page. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:44, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Mishae, yea, it is pretty frustrating. I apologize for sending you there. I will try to address it with Russian administrators such as Ezhiki, may be it will be more productive. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:36, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
You know, what's even worse? Is that I reported them not 1, not 2, but 4 IP addresses which were doing the same edits from Brazil and one more from somewhere else. I'm shocked that while other users receive at least a thank you (let alone a barnstar), I get ignored by the whole Wikipedia community regarding disruptive editing, which as we all know is a no-no here.--Mishae (talk) 20:46, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

Mishae, are you following on your posts at ANI or AVI? What is the section title? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:56, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

O.K. I requested a protection on most of them. Lets see what gonna happen.--Mishae (talk) 20:58, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Link one and Link two both of which were from AVI.--Mishae (talk) 21:00, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
Well, no one commented on the protection. Wonder why?--Mishae (talk) 00:00, 30 January 2014 (UTC)
Well guess what? Our smart admins at the page protection thing assumed that I wanted talkpages to be protected! I think user Callanecc thinks that I am a complete idiot! What's worse in the past 6 hours +, not a living soul said anything about our post at ANI, and even Ezhiki didn't responded! Argh!!!!--Mishae (talk) 05:44, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Can you look at this article? An editor has deleted all of the international goals from the article because they were no citations. Featuring your work on Wikipedia's front page: DYKs

Thank you for your recent articles, including Ukrainian National Revival, which I read with interest. When you create an extensive and well referenced article, you may want to have it featured on Wikipedia's main page in the Did You Know section. Articles included there will be read by thousands of our viewers. To do so, add your article to the list at T:TDYK. Let me know if you need help, Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 14:49, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including Ukrainian National Revival, which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. This can help you too, as the WikiProject members will often defend your work from deletion and try to improve it further. Feel free to ask me any questions if you'd like more information. This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Oleksandr Valeriovych Yakymenko, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Oleksandr Yakymenko. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. MadmanBot (talk) 15:50, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Formal mediation has been requested

The Mediation Committee has received a request for formal mediation of the dispute relating to "February 2014 Euromaidan riots". As an editor concerned in this dispute, you are invited to participate in the mediation. Mediation is a voluntary process which resolves a dispute over article content by facilitation, consensus-building, and compromise among the involved editors. After reviewing the request page, the formal mediation policy, and the guide to formal mediation, please indicate in the "party agreement" section whether you agree to participate. Because requests must be responded to by the Mediation Committee within seven days, please respond to the request by 28 February 2014.

Discussion relating to the mediation request is welcome at the case talk page. Thank you.

Mediation

Did you see my question above? Let me know if you want to proceed with the mediation. Sunray (talk) 17:35, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

Sunray, thank you on following up with your inquiry. Frankly, I did not see your question above. Nonetheless, it seems that the argument was partially settled. My issue was in regards to claims that were not correctly interpreted by some foreign media during the period of time and references of which ended up in wikipedia as affirmative statements. After checking the information I asked to have those claims removed until further clarification. That argument is listed at the talk page of the mentioned article. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 18:04, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. Based on your comments, I will reject the mediation. If you need to restart it, you may file again any time. Sunray (talk) 00:35, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Sunray, once again, great job on following up. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 01:07, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Request for mediation rejected

The request for formal mediation concerning February 2014 Euromaidan riots, to which you were listed as a party, has been declined. To read an explanation by the Mediation Committee for the rejection of this request, see the mediation request page, which will be deleted by an administrator after a reasonable time. Alex Bakharev, ok. Thanks, for your intervention. There simply a lot of stuff being provided without proper verification and as a fact. I read the Russian article on the newly created Republic of Crimea that is based on some chauvinistic sources that from get go assume Ukraine as an enemy, in regards to the 1991 All-Crimean referendum. Please, understand me. I agree that labeling people in the way I did may be is an overreaction. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 14:48, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

was this content inserted into an english article? --Львівське (говорити) 16:37, 12 March 2014 (UTC)

Crimean Crisis

Aleksandr Grigoryev: Could you please help me and support me with my proposed changes to 2014 Crimean crisis? I'm not very experienced in Wikipedia. I formulated some critical comments in the Talk section: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:2014_Crimean_crisis#About_some_legal_aspects. It seems to me that many things in the article were written from pro-Yanukovych/pro-Putin positions and mislead readers. More objective facts should be presented. I'm sure many people around the world are reading this article now, and objectivity is very important. Буду дуже вдячний!

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Ukrainian–Soviet War may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "()"s. The edit summaries are too short, and apparently I'm not explaining this properly.

There are two separate tables because PoR has not decided on a candidate.

At first, pollsters polled incumbent President Victor Yanukovych as the PoR candidate (who was generally presumed to be the PoR candidate again for obvious reasons.) After the Ukrainian revolution Yanukovych was still eligible to run again. Yanukovych is allowed to run for President. Yanukovych chose not to run in the new elections labeling them illegitimate, so he hasn't been polled recently.

In his place, some pollsters are polling Tihipko (who is generally considered the most likely PoR candidate.)

The tables, however, are not strictly chronological. One is of polls that suppose Yanukovych is the PoR candidate, and one is for polls that suppose Tihipko is the PoR candidate.

There is no confirmed PoR candidate, if someone other than Tihipko is the PoR candidate we will need a third table because there is no room for them in the Tihipko table. It is not a table for all post-Revolution polls, just like the Yanukovych table is not a table for all pre-Revolution polls.

They are both for all polls from before or after the Revolution that suppose Yanukovych or Tihipko respectively are the PoR candidate.

And anyways, if they are generally chronological right now, the date that divides them would be the one when Yanukovych stated he would not run, not the date he was removed from power.

Please stop changing it to say they are for pre/post Revolution polls. That's not what the tables are. --4idaho (talk) 18:48, 22 March 2014 (UTC)

4idaho, since when Ukrainian elections are about the Party of Regions only or either Yanukovych or Tihipko? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 19:41, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
They're not. But there are no other parties have a situation like that. If there were two major candidates being polled as, lets say, Fatherland's candidate, obviously we would want to find a way to include polls including both of them in the article, right? --4idaho (talk) 20:01, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
4idaho, so you chose to categorize in reference to party situation. Why not time period such as the Ukrainian version? It seems more apolitical, would not you find? Yanukovych is being listed in the wanted list by Interpol. How do you think it is possible for him to run for the president of Ukraine? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:23, 22 March 2014 (UTC)
What do you mean how is it possible? The government invited him to run in the election!
As to why not divide the table by time, why would the table need to be divided at all? The tables already have the polls presented chronologically -- newer polls go at the top. There's no need to divide the tables based on "time period."
There's more than one table because pollsters haven't always polled the same sets of candidates.
And, by the way, presenting polls with a variety of candidates is done on every other election article. Go to the article for opinion polling for the next US presidential election (or the French presidential election, ect.), and there are polls for a variety of different sets of candidates -- because the pollsters poll a variety of different candidates.
I honestly don't understand how you think it's somehow "biased." --4idaho (talk) 01:09, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
4idaho, Yanukovych announced that he is not running on March 11, 2014, but no one polls him since the end of February of 2014. Tihipko was considered as a major representative of the Party of Regions since then, while Yanukovych is on the wanted listed in suspicion of mass killing. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 04:07, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
How does this have any bearing on this conversation? I don't understand. What we're talking about is what to name the sub-headings in the opinion polling section on the article. You haven't explained why you think the way it's done now is "biased."
Yes, at one point Yanukovych was considered the presumptive PoR candidate and most pollsters polled him. Currently, most pollsters poll Tihipko. Tihipko is not, however, the official PoR candidate, and a number of other PoR members are listed as potential candidates in the article. Tihipko is generally being polled, but he is far from guaranteed to be the PoR candidate.
In my opinion, the current headings are descriptive. One table has polls with Yanukovych. One has polls with Tihipko. If there emerges a different set of plausible candidates in the future, whoever they are or whatever party they belong to, we'd want to include those. How is that "biased" or why it should be changed?
I'm honestly not opposed to changing the format. But I would appreciate if you would stop insinuating my editing is biased somehow, and instead actually address the issue of the format and why or how it should be changed. --4idaho (talk) 13:11, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
4idaho, first of all do not try to ridicule this argument more than it is already. Second of all previously you denied the fact that polls are chronological. That simply does not make any sense, because the whole purpose of the polls in the article is to show how opinions change in regards to candidates over time. Third of all you still did not provide real arguments why subsections of opinion polls should be named after politicians of a certain political party, towards which you seems to be strongly affectionate. How are they (subsections) "descriptive"? If one sub-section named "with Tihipko" contains information with such candidate over certain period of time, another sub-section with Yanukovych should cover the same period of time, but with now different candidate. Is that your description? How is that not ambiguous? The name of the section is "opinion polls", not "Party of Regions" struggle before elections. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 19:54, 23 March 2014 (UTC)
Chronological within themselves. I.e. there are two tables, each table has polls presented in chronological order, but the tables do not necessarily follow each other. I.e. one table does not pick up where the other table leaves off.
And if even if they are generally chronological (in the sense that Tihipko has usually been polled since after pollsters stopped polling Yanukovych), the correct date to divide them would be the date that Yanukovych said he wouldn't run in the new elections, not the day he was removed from power (like you did, when you edited the article.)
Now I'll repeat myself that I am not necessarily opposed to changing the headings. I was opposed to what you changed the headings to when you edited the article.
As to my opinion on the headings, I think they're fine the the way they are (although, again, I'm not necessarily opposed to changing them if you have a reasonable alternative.) The section is titled "opinion polls", and having a sub-section titled "with Tihipko" seems to fairly clearly indicate that subsection is for polls with Tihipko included, although you may think it implies something else? --4idaho (talk) 03:19, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
4idaho, the problem is that you do not want to listen to me. When did Yanukovych announced that he will not run for President? March 11. Now, what did you say in that regard? Quoting: And if even if they are generally chronological (in the sense that Tihipko has usually been polled since after pollsters stopped polling Yanukovych), the correct date to divide them would be the date that Yanukovych said he wouldn't run in the new elections, not the day he was removed from power (like you did, when you edited the article.) Now. You are right about that Tihipko was polled since after pollsters stopped polling Yanukovych. But, was that before the Yanukkovych's announcement? No, it was not. In fact, the Yanukovych's announcement appeared almost half a month thereafter.
Also, to stop all the doubt whether or not those tables in chronological order. Did you see the table under your sub-section "With Yanukovych"? There are some breaking heading 2012, 2013, 2014. Also, the latest opinion poll with Yanukovych was conducted late in January of 2014 where it is left off following (rather preceding) by with Tihipko which contains polls for March 2014.
My headings might not be the best therefore I offered to change them to the time reference. But, do you even remember that? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 03:52, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
With all do respect, your english isn't the best. You also divided them by "time period" (before/after Revolution.) When you talk about dividing them by "time period" it's not all clear to me that you mean dividing them the way I had suggested. I did read it, I just misunderstood it.
As to the one table picking up several months later March 2014, that's sort of been my point the entire time. Yanukovych's removal from power and subsequent announcement he wouldn't run is not directly correlated with Tihipko becoming a leading figure in PoR and getting polled as their potential candidate. You can't really pick any one day and say that's the day when Yanukovych stopped being PoR leading figure and Tihipko became it.
That's why when I created the section and put all the opinion polls in I simply divided the sub-sections the way I did. It seemed the most simple way to do it at the time.
That said, again, I have to objection to them being changed. I only objected to them being divided as "before/after Revolution." What do you suggest the heading be changed to then? If the plan is to do it along before/after Yanukovych signaled he wouldn't run. --4idaho (talk) 22:49, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
4idaho, thanks, for stepping down. I also want to mention that the polls with Yanukovych were for different election. Is not that so? Originally scheduled for 2015, it was moved to spring of 2014 after the Revolution and revival of the 2004 constitutional amendments. Right? I think that would be a good pivotal point. It happened so that many changes occurred among which was the public consideration for candidates. But, one should be aware that polls do not state or imply that Yanukovych does not have a right to participate in elections. They are perception of social opinion. More concrete situation in regards to the leader of the Party of Regions would be after the upcoming party's congress. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 23:42, 24 March 2014 (UTC)
I disagree, the Revolution is certainly a key event of the election but it doesn't have a direct correlation with opinion polling so it doesn't make sense to me to divide the table based on that.
I've been thinking, but would you think of having a table like the one for Opinion polling for the French presidential election, 2012. As you can see, in the early polls a variety of candidates from the same party are polled but it's all done in one table. So in other words it would look like this, with no dividing the section:

Yanukovych
PoR
Tihipko
PoR
Klitschko
UDAR
Tymoshenko

  1. ^ a b c d e f g h i This survey shows its poll results without disregarding those who are undecided or said they will abstain from voting (either physically or by voting blank). In order to obtain results comparable to other surveys and the official election results, the result shown in this table will be that obtained, with a simple rule of three, from disregarding undecided and/or abstaining voters from the totals offered in the survey.
  2. ^ a b Some opinion polls round their data so that in the end up showing a .0 or a .5 value. This practise is maintained for these polls when disregarding undecided and/or abstaining voters from the totals so as to avoid different interpretations of the same value.

Would you be OK with this? I now think this would be the simplest way to do it. After all, there's no need to divide the table if we don't have to. --4idaho (talk) 19:42, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
4idaho, that is fine. As a comment, I want again to point out the fact that the elections for which Yanukovych was polled were for 2015 (originally) rather than 2014. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:17, 26 March 2014 (UTC)
That's true, but elections are often rescheduled, I don't think anything special is usually done in that case. Since you're fine with it, I went ahead and implemented it in the article. --4idaho (talk) 20:30, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

Redirecting

Hi I see that you have created the cat:Turkic countries and territories. Thanks for your efforts. But it so happens that there is another cat :Autonomous Turkic states which is almost identical. Do you consider redirecting the newly created cat ? Cheers. Nedim Ardoğa (talk) 20:09, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Nedim Ardoğa, it is not consistent with such categories like Category:Germanic countries and territories. I think Category:Turkic states should be reformed (or redirected) into Category:Turkic countries and territories that would contain other political polities. Category:Autonomous Turkic states also should be changed as it contain subnational territories which are not states per se but rather autonomous territories. There should be some system with categorization common and consistent throughout different subjects. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 21:03, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi :) I'll ask you for a little help. Tell me please what resources you used (back in 2011) to write English names for all those 'zakazniks' and Co. Wiki Loves Earth is coming and I need to know what translations are really reliable. As there are thousands of them ((. Thanks for the answer -- Ата (talk) 20:05, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

Ата, That one, but it is in Ukrainian. Also, most of them are not "zakazniks" per se. The most important nature preserves are called "zapavedniks" which are roughly translated as sanctuaries (or nature preserves). Zakazniks are smaller and more specialized to certain habitat or species, I might be mistaken, though. English interpretations were originally done by myself, but with times they were adjusted by other users, I think. There is no official single English language source for all the Nature Preservation Fund (PZF). Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:20, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
We have an article on zapovednik, and at least in Russia we traditionally translate them as nature reserves, see e.g. Rdeysky Nature Reserve. I guess in Ukraine whatever name comes most often in Wikipedia should be used.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:25, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Ата, my original intention was to come up with a system which would be incorporated in infoboxes and would be consistent with similar systems in other countries. But due to the amount missing information, lack of time, and uncertainty in regards to some technical interpretations the whole process stalled half way through. Nonetheless, I think I set a great foundation to expand on the Nature Preservation Fund in Ukraine. What do you think? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:32, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Ymblanter, well. I could not really find an explanation on the whole system of the nature preservation fund in Russia. Certainly, there is much greater amount of space available to have more all those zakazniks, zapavedniks and other stuff. I tried to find some systematization. So, I ran across some legislative documents from Ukraine, ministerial websites, some tourism agency websites as well as flipping back and forth to the Ukrainian variant to pull up all the info. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:32, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
In Russia, at the federal level we have mainly national parks (see Nizhnyaya Kama National Park as an example, zapovedniks, and federal zakazniks (see Remdovsky Zakaznik). This is somewhat explained in the law [3] but essentially they differ by the amount of allowed activities. However, since we are only talking about translations, National parks are National Parks, zapovedniks are Nature Reserves, and zakazniks are zakazniks. I guess Ukraine is similar.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:39, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Ymblanter, yep, it is about right. I also thought to relate zakazniks with the 4th IUCN protected area category, but then I also placed them outside of that categorization. So, I am not certain how those could be really synchronized with IUCN. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:51, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
Ymblanter, also, unlike in Russia, Ukraine does not have federal zakazniks as it is a unitary state, first of all, and second, all zakazniks are kept at regional levels and similar to a landscape park often constitute part of bigger preserves or natural parks. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:54, 5 April 2014 (UTC)
All the articles I created I put into category III, presumably because someone did that before me, but I do not have sources for this.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:55, 5 April 2014 (UTC)

There is no official single English language source for all the Nature Preservation Fund (PZF), you say and this makes me sad . If you can, please, have a look at how we agreed to name categories for WLE images. We used this your article for that (thanks a lot, for it helps). -- Ата (talk) 10:32, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

Ата, thank you for invitation. Please, take a look at my edits on the talk page you provided. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 23:45, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

UA Subdivision Templates + Kirovohrad Oblast

I left my responses to the subdivision topic on my talk page.. Anyways, if you could take a look at Talk:Kirovohrad Oblast, there is a rogue move request going around to change (only some of the) Kirovohrad Oblast articles to a lowercase variant Kirovohrad oblast. That isn't the right way to propose a move at all, since it should be discussed prior, especially since consensus in the past has established the current naming scheme. § DDima 15:40, 6 April 2014 (UTC)

removing gubarev

gubarev is the 'peoples governor', why did you remove this? it's entirely citable, they're in there wearing 'free gubarev' shirts and holding gooby signs --Львівське (говорити) 19:57, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Lvivske, show me sources citing that gubarev was elected governor of the Donetsk People's Republic. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:03, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
He's the leader of the movement and governor, that he's not governor of the republic since he's in jail is splitting hairs. ref --Львівське (говорити) 20:06, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Lvivske, the article you provided states that he is the governor of Donetsk Oblast, not Donetsk People's Republic. Is Donetsk People's Republic the same as Donetsk Oblast? Where is consistency? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 20:28, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
It doesn't say that, just governor of Donetsk, as you know, the DPR claims all of Donetsk Oblast.--Львівське (говорити) 21:07, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
Lvivske, where is consistency? Is that a fact that supporters of Gubarev created DPR? Whatever the case may be there is still inconsistency. The "Donetsk People's Council" (gathering - "strelka") did not elect no governor, so claiming Gubarev the governor is speculative and is not explicitly supported. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 21:23, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

V. Konstantinov

While Ukr. Rada really dissolved Crimean one, Konstantinov and his parliament (or "so-called parliament") in fact continues (this is comparable to Yeltsin presidency between 21 September, when he was formally impeached by SC & Congr. but had managed to retain actual political power and 12 December 1993, when, with ratification of new Constitution, voters also ratified provision that "The President of the Russian Federation, elected according to the Constitution (Fundamental Law) of the Russian Federation - Russia, since the given Constitution comes into force, since carry out the powers fixed in it until the term of office for which he was elected expires.", i.e. cancelled early elections and prolonged Y.'s term to 1996), and it cannot be ignored. I think, we shall give both dates: dissolution by Ukr. Rada and 17 March (when Supr. Council was renamed to State Council, and Chairman position with it). Seryo93 (talk) 05:45, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Seryo93, have you read the first paragraph about the Crimean council about that it follows the Constitution of Ukraine and the Constitution of Crimea??? Renaming of the council does not make it legal neither. If the council was dissolved, it could not even recognize the phoney referendum because it directly contradicts the law on which the council is based. Look at the composition of the council. Since when the Communist Party of Ukraine or the People's Movement of Ukraine became parties of the Russian Federation??? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:47, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, the UN General Assembly did not recognize secession of Crimea therefore the so-called has no legal jurisdiction. After the dissolution the council became a private organization of Konstantinov. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:53, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
I already metioned, that V. Kon. is de facto chairman (although Kosovo Assembly also violated Serbian law, btw) of de facto entity (Republic of Crimea). And yes, you're right, Ukr. parties aren't parties of Russia, but their deputies in VS/VRARC are de facto deputies in the RoC de facto parliament (per this and this). I'm not pretend that this parliament in unquestioned (it's under territorial dispute), but it has actual (de facto) power, backed by RF. Maybe a a separate article helps differentiate this from VRARC? Seryo93 (talk) 12:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
And BTW, Kosovo is unrecognised by UN too (not a member state), therefore it has no jurisdiction too. Sovnarkom was private organisation (gang) in relation to Russian Empire/Republic, but it held actual power. Seryo93 (talk) 12:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, Kosovo was a federative subject of both Yugoslavia and Serbia, Crimea was not a federal subject but rather a regional council. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:59, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, Sovnarkom was at least sanctioned by a legal document. No such documents exist for neither government institution in Crimea. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:07, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
It was sanctioned (i.e recognised by other states, because other Russian institutions, that can recognise it, such as Duma, or Prov. Gov't., or monarch etc. ceased to function - that is, were overthrown either by Bolsheviks (Prov. Gov't), or their February predecessors (Tsar, later also Duma)) sometimes (in fact decades, in terms of recognition of Soviet state by other sovereign states, with USA (last power) recognising USSR only in 1933) later. Future is constantly changing, and who knows, maybe RoC will be recognised (but this is VERY unlikely now, I agree). Seryo93 (talk) 13:11, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
And Serbian constitution (2006) stated/implied that it has no right to seccede ("inseparable part", smiliar to ARC within UA constitutional framework), moreover Serbia is unitary state with autonomies (similar to UA), unlike (S)FRY and S.&Mont., which were federal or (later entity) confederal. Yes, it's regional council, without constitutional right to seccede, I'm admit that. Revolution, btw. I think, that Supreme Council of Crimea must be about Ukrainian perspective, with some info about it's (questioned) activity in 15-17 March, as it with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, while State Council of Crimea (or corresponding section in the Republic of Crimea article) may be about de facto entity (like Republic of Crimea), proclaimed on 17 March. Seryo93 (talk) 13:08, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, few question. Was Kosovo a federal subject of Serbia? Was Crimea a federal subject of Ukraine? And why are jumping from one argument to another? Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:15, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Neither were federal subjects (because their host states aren't federations). I'm not objected if we say that this activity is going against Ukrainian laws (it's obvious fact), but neither we can ignore their actual authority. See also Sevastopol, where it's stated about de facto control (Russia) and de facto Governor (Chaliy). Seryo93 (talk) 13:18, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, subordination of the Supreme Council of Crimea to the Ukrainian parliament is prescribed in the Constitution of Ukraine, which is not the fact in regards to Kosovo. Whatever there is in Crimea right now does not correspond to any existing laws neither Constitution of Ukraine, Constitution of Crimea, or international laws. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:44, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, when Bolsheviks created their Sovnarkom, they at least released their decree explaining functioning of one and dissolved the previous government institutions. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:46, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Seryo93, a new Constitution of Crimea is scheduled to be adopted on April 11, 2014 (Constitution annexed Crimea is being prepared in secret mode). That could be at least some type of groundwork for legitimacy of the State Council of Crimea. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:54, 9 April 2014 (UTC)
Until adaptation of the new constitution the parliament of Crimea cannot be treated other than NGO or private organization. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:56, 9 April 2014 (UTC)

Hi, I don't know which of the Alexes will come to the rescue (you or Bakharev) but I added some quotes in the above article and would like to know if I over did it (at least I feel that I did one too many). If its not hard can you see if this and a section on Crimea wont add undue weight to the subject (I have an issue when it comes to determine what is due and what is not). Many thanks in advance.--Mishae (talk) 04:44, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

Mishae, I think it is too many for an article of this size. However, I do admit that those quotes are worth of mentioning. May be they ought to be incorporated in the related articles? Also, I frankly indifferent as long as the article does not carry information without a clear support. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 04:53, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
What related articles? There are many articles on the current situation in Ukraine. Also, what clear support are you talking about? The article carry references, so its not a baseless claim, is it? Please specify your meaning. If you want to move them to another articles, feel free, I wont revert. I'm only in support to make balanced and unbiased article. My aim here was just an expansion, because the current person wasn't updated since December 29, 2012. Sure there were minor updates of infobox and bot fixes, but the whole 2013 went amiss.--Mishae (talk) 17:07, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Mishae, I apologize for being ambiguous. For I meant is that if Piskun commented on any matter, those comments probably would look with the articles for those specific matters such as the 2014 Crimean crisis. Those comments could be added as part of highlights on margins for those articles. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 22:21, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
O.K. Will it go under Reactions from Ukraine and Russia?--Mishae (talk) 22:32, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
Mishae, that is fine. It kind of disclosing Piskun's civil position on various matters. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 22:35, 18 April 2014 (UTC)

The article Yekaterina Gubareva has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Minister of Affairs for a country that doesn't exist, which is currently under an AfD. WP:N I think would make her not notable enough for a WP:BLP

Yevhen Shcherban

The article on Yevhen Shcherban has a statement that does not make sense. I went through the edit history and found that you were the person who added it in 2012.[4] What I suspect happened is that you missed out some words and did not notice. The sentence in question is:

However, the assassination of People's Deputy of Ukraine became the most noticeable.

I suspect that you meant: "However, the assassination of Shcherban became the most noticeable, because he was a People's Deputy of Ukraine." Please could you have a look at this.--Toddy1 (talk) 17:05, 20 April 2014 (UTC) Toddy1, well, I meant to say "However, assassination of the People's Deputy of Ukraine....". But I guess you may rephrase it the same way as you did. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 23:02, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Igor Strelkov

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Igor Strelkov a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Igor Sergeievich Strelkov. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. Ways to improve Highway M17 (Ukraine)

Hi, I'm Dsprc. Aleksandr Grigoryev, thanks for creating Highway M17 (Ukraine)!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. The colors used in the article may not meet guidelines for readability or WP:CONTRAST

I would like to change these two templates [1] [2] because the colors and contrast make them difficult to read. I noticed you selected the current color scheme for them some time ago; is there a reason for them to be this color (other than a close approximation of national colors)? Dsprc (talk) 03:52, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Dsprc, please, check changes that I have made. The reason was probably the fact that blue color was an established among road identification signs. Webcolors scheme interpret the blue color very bright, so now I changed it to more relaxing to an eye. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:20, 31 May 2014 (UTC)
Hey, thanks. This is much better. :) Dsprc (talk) 04:40, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

Volyn tragedy

It seems we may have to make a new article just for the Ukrainian / western scholarly supported side of things as Polish editors won't allow Ukrainian historiography to be on "their" article, which is unfortunate. --LeVivsky (ಠ_ಠ) 20:28, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Lvivske, that article is written purely from the Polish ethnocentric point of view. Just look at all the references for the article. Most of them are in Polish and almost none in Ukrainian. How is that balanced evaluation? The article portrays the viewpoint of Polish community and is not necessary the universal point of view. The tragedy took place in the wake of the Operation Tempest when Polish and Soviet forces ganged up against the Ukrainian resistance. There is no need to introduce a new article if the subject is one and the same, but portrayal of all points of view is valuable as it explains the Ukrainian-Polish cultural and ethnic relationships. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 23:02, 10 June 2014 (UTC)
I fully agree that its POV driven and one sided. As you can see on the talk page, I tried to provide balance and suggested the name was POV, but was shot down and reverted. I was then told that if I wanted a neutral article (one that showed it as a two-sided conflict, to go make a new article). This is WP:OWN as well as NPOV. I'm all ears on what you think should be done, its been a longstanding issue for me and the battles on that page were huge headaches.--LeVivsky (ಠ_ಠ) 00:05, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Lvivske, have you read the introductory paragraph? Do you remember how RGloucher protested when I called the Russians in Ukraine terrorists? Now, I think RGloucher simply is obligated to look at this article which labels the Ukrainian Insurgent Army as one that conducted ethnic cleansing. Now, if those Russian were actually recognized as terrorists by the Ukrainian authorities, there were no official claims except the opinion of some historians in regard to the ethnic cleansing conducted by the Ukrainian resistance. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:35, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
So, it makes at least two issues with the article WP:OWN and WP:LABEL. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:36, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
Lvivske, moreover, check the references that accuse the Ukrainian Insurgent Army in ethnic cleansing. Two of them are dead link. Snyder does mention about intentions of the Army to cleanse the Western Ukraine from Poles, but he does not seem to e accusing UPA in the Volhynian "massacre" (at least at the reference given). Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:55, 11 June 2014 (UTC)
A similar thing is taken place right now in the eastern Ukraine against ethnic Ukrainians (maybe in less numbers). No one accuses the "Donbas militia" or "Crimea self-defense" in ethnic cleansing. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:59, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

I dont think ethnic cleansing is an incorrect label, but my research does indicate that it was mutual and possibly started by the Polish. My main gripe is that the Ukrainian losses are covered up on the article and the possible two-sided nature of the conflict is covered up, which makes it a non neutral article. I also don't care for the title, as it seems to be original research and POV. --LeVivsky (ಠ_ಠ) 02:52, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

All is right, but just having accusation of somebody in the very first sentence is something like very important. Don't you think? It looks like the author of the article really wants the reader to notice that. The whole issue is controversial. The evaluation who started and did more harm is not so clear. The article feels as the author tries to find facts accusing somebody of something. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 02:58, 11 June 2014 (UTC)

I'm wondering if the info that I added into the above article is worth of mentioning. My addition doesn't deserve a separate article I think, since I found only 2 refs mentioning of the event. It might be related to that article as a half a year later aftermath. Your or @Lvivske:'s opinion will be very important.--Mishae (talk) 01:25, 21 June 2014 (UTC)

If it won't be hard, can you see if the information that I added to the above article is worth of mentioning. I know that sources are reliable...--Mishae (talk) 04:50, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Arsenal Kyiv reformed

Please do not delete the modification of the reformed club Arsenal Kyiv. Their official web site gives enough reference that they are inheriting the past history of Arsenal Kyiv. See История киевского «Арсенала» and live with it. Brudder Andrusha (talk) 02:12, 6 August 2014 (UTC)

Brudder Andrusha, I do not see how the revived club is related to previous club. The fact that the new Arsenal decided to "inherent" the past history does not necessary makes it one and the same club. The previous Arsenal was introduced by the Arsenal factory, the contemporary Arsenal was introduced by city's authorities. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 08:07, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
We have many instances of clubs that have been reformed and have assumed the history of different clubs. Not just in Ukraine but in other countries. Look at the entry for FC Lviv. Accept it and move on and stop creating nonsensical divergence where it is unnecessary. Brudder Andrusha (talk) 12:01, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
Bad example. FC Lviv never assumed history of different club. It did assumed the same name (generic), but never claimed the heritage of its predecessor. The article had to be split and that is what I tried to do, but someone else insisted that it is way too confusing. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:30, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
You want a better example... How about Rangers F.C.? Here you have a team, that definitely is not the same club and you will have a hard time convincing that the article needs to be split up. Brudder Andrusha (talk) 12:36, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
You can also add FC Oleksandriya and FC Zirka Kirovohrad. And I have stubbed FC Obolon Kyiv - FC Obolon-Brovar Kyiv for merging. Brudder Andrusha (talk) 12:40, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
By the way, when are we going to merge those Obolon articles? :) It is clear that the two teams have clear connection. The case with Obolon is exactly the same as with Rangers, no doubt in it. About Zirka Kirovohrad, if you read the article carefully, you will find information about how the current club relates to its predecessor. About Oleksandriya, it is the same case as with Obolon. However after the merger with UkrAhroKom, now the club lays its claims to the heritage of FC Shakhtar Oleksandriya, while before that Polihraftekhnika nor PFC Olexandria did not do that. Arsenal Kyiv of 1925 was based on the team of the Arsenal factory, while the Arsenal Kyiv of 2001 was transformed and totally based on CSKA Kyiv. The new Arsenal was even playing at Kolos Stadium in Boryspil for quite some time, thus, tracing its heritage to FC Boryspil more than to 1925 Arsenal Kyiv. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:58, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
Brudder Andrusha, I promise not to delete your modifications to the article until I find concrete information that proves that one club is not related to another. I do not argue that the newly reformed club could trace its roots to FC Arsenal Kyiv of 2001. The article will stay consolidated as in case with FC Lviv. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:15, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
OK, but if you have a look at the new Arsenal Kyiv website for upcoming Arsenal Kyiv - Obolon-Brovar-2 Kyiv game the pictures of the stadium for the advertisement looks like the old venues where Arsenal Kyiv played again FC Obolon Kyiv from the past. Hmmmmm! Also this club has taken over the youth sports school and youth teams which were under the old Arsenal Kyiv umbrella - So they did not die! If in the future there is divergence then we will need to revisit. Later. Brudder Andrusha (talk) 13:31, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
Well, if you would follow the Kiev city championship, you could see that Arsenal Kyiv had quite extensive football academy with several teams participating at different age categories. So, it is possible that it continues to compete on amateur level (city championship). The Kiev city competition also has another quite famous club from the past FC Lokomotyv Kyiv. I am not certain of its relationship to its Soviet predecessor. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 00:19, 7 August 2014 (UTC)

Edit

You just added a fact about Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 to War in Donbass. Whilst there is no doubt about the sourcing or the content, I do not think it belongs there. That article isn't about the shoot-down, and the shoot-down article deals with that issue in depth. Template:Campaignbox 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine

Hello! Could you express your opinion about the organization of the Template:Campaignbox 2014 pro-Russian unrest in Ukraine, which provoked a little controversy these days (particularly in relation to the positioning of the "Russian military intervention")? If you wish to express an opinion, there is a discussion in the Talk Page of this template. Thank you! Mondolkiri1 (talk) 19:39, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

Your opinion (along with my reply) was collapsed per WP:NOTFORUM. Could you express your opinion again, without turning it into a forum, just focusing on the organization of the template (removing off topic considerations), please? Thank you! Mondolkiri1 (talk) 21:45, 12 September 2014

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Second Masol Government, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Kuchma Government.

CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:44, 20 September 2014 (UTC)

Template:National minorities of Ukraine

You did not explain your revert of my change on this template, so I have put it back (with some minor modifications). Some points to note:

  1. Your revert is against policy. See WP:HLIST and WP:ACCESS. Your edit also removed some other improvements, such as state pass-through and fixing non-section redirects.
  2. HLIST formatting has been extensively discussed on en:wp, and is overwhelmingly supported. It also makes the structure of the navbox much clearer, cleaner, and easier to edit.
  3. Large numbers of redlinks in navboxes are a bad idea (one can't navigate between non-existent articles). I could simply have deleted them, but I took the time and trouble to help you out by putting them in a commented-out section, so that you can easily restore them once you (or anyone else) have created the relevant articles.
  4. I considered putting the entries in alphabetical order – the usual default, for easier navigation – but left it unchanged, in case you wanted to put them in some other order (for example, by size of the minority). I recommend that you either put them in alphabetical order, or if you think some other order is better, use it and state in a footnote what the order is.
  5. Using templates to put mainspace articles in non-maintenance categories is a bad idea; it is much better to state the categories explicitly on the relevant page. See WP:TCAT.

Thank you, in general, for your work on Ukraine. Wikipedia needs more and better articles on topics outside of the USA and UK.

Oops, sorry, I was logged on to NSH002, so didn't see your note on my NSH001 talk page. I've struck my first remark above accordingly. However I'm sure it is much better for you to continue from the current version. --NSH002 (talk) 07:46, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
NSH002, I do not see how "my revert is against any policy" when I asked you to wait with any of your editions as I am still trying to improve the template. Many of your pointers are valid but could you please hold off your accusations and try to find a consensus before going with your editing? The order in the table was designed by the number of people based on the latest national census. Therefore it was split into three groups to identify more numerous ethnic diaspora in Ukraine from small ones. Number of other nationalities were omitted conditionally if they representation did not exceed 1,000 people. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 14:27, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
On the question of being against policy, please read the links I gave you above, namely WP:HLIST, WP:ACCESS, WP:TCAT. I have been careful not to make any accusations, but simply to point you to established policy, and to explain, in detail, why I made my changes. As I explained above, I did not see your message on NSH001 until some time after I made the changes and posted my first message above. But even if I had, the mere fact that you are still working on it is not a valid reason for undoing my changes. Remember, I am trying to help you, and to save you time.
On the question of order of the entries, it is fine to group them by size (I wasn't questioning that at all, and it surprises me that you seem to be interpreting it that way). It is also fine to order them by size within each group, but if that is the case, then it helpful to our readsers to state, in a footnote, that they are ordered in decreading size (I don't know whether thay are or not, as I don't have the census data at my fingertips). If that is not the case, then it is helpful to our readers to order them alphabetically within each group. --NSH002 (talk) 15:16, 22 September 2014 (UTC)
NSH002, well, the very first bullet is clearly written as an accusation, while I was not throwing at you the WP:TALKFIRST as you do with all those policies. The third bullet could be even re-interpreted as a warning. I think we started on a wrong foot here. I have to admit that your edits are good. You are right about the footnote, but I would not want to overload it with too much info, though. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 15:36, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello Aleksandr Grigoryev. It has been over six months since you last edited your WP:AFC draft article submission, entitled "sandbox1".

The page will shortly be deleted. If you plan on editing the page to address the issues raised when it was declined and resubmit it, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}} or {{db-g13}} code. Please note that Articles for Creation is not for indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you want to retrieve it, copy this code: {{subst:Refund/G13|User:Aleksandr Grigoryev/sandbox1}}, paste it in the edit box at this link, click "Save page", and an administrator will in most cases undelete the submission.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. JMHamo (talk) 05:39, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Hromada (secret society)

The article Hromada (secret society) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of how this might meet notability guidelines. Lacks citations to significant coverage in reliable sources.

WP:BLP and tagging people as terrorists

Hello Aleksandr. I noticed you've recently created a category Category:Individuals designated as terrorist by the government of Ukraine and are populating it with various individuals. However, in all the cases I've checked, there was nothing in the article itself to back up the claim that the individual is a designated terrorist. Since this sort of accusation could be harmful to these people, it is vital that we follow our policy on biographies of living persons (and particularly WP:BLPCAT) and insist on reliable sources for these claims. I will remove any tags you have added which are unreferenced, but feel free to reinsert them if you can simultaneously add reliably sourced text backing up the claim. (Note that the same goes for some biographical articles you have been tagging as fugitive murderers.) —Psychonaut (talk) 06:43, 14 October 2014 (UTC)

Psychonaut, what are you talking about?? Khodakovsky is being charged with terrorists acts and is ordered to be arrested and brought to court. He is officially on the wanted list as a person who committed terrorist acts. How would you call such a person? Persons who hide from authorities. Ministry of Internal Affairs website. 12:49, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Moreover, Igor Bezler along with Igor Girkin explicitly were announced as such who need to be arrested and brought to court as they are suspected in terrorism. (General Prosecutor of Ukraine, source) Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 12:55, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
Psychonaut, in Ukraine those people are officially designated as terrorists. It is not a groundless accusation. Denying the fact that those people are terrorists, it is the same as denying the fact that Crimea is under Russian control. Aleksandr Grigoryev (talk) 13:09, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
I am not saying that these people are not officially designated as terrorists. I am just asking you to abide by our policy on biographies of living persons, which requires that claims such as this be accompanied by a reference to a reliable source. —Psychonaut (talk) 13:13, 14 October 2014 (UTC)
