GOCE November drive wrap-up
Guild of Copy Editors November 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up
Participation: Thanks to all who participated! Out of 38 people who signed up this drive, 33 copy-edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here. All the barnstars have now been distributed. Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing November and December 2011 from the backlog. For the first time since the drives began, the backlog consists only of articles tagged in the current year. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2690 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 56 requests outstanding before November 2012 as well as eight of those made in November. Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the October 2012 competition, and prizes have been issued. The November 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The December 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote. Coodinator election: The six-month term for our fourth tranche of Guild coordinators will expire at the end of December. Nominations are open for the fifth tranche of coordinators, who will serve from 1 January to 30 June 2013. For complete information, please have a look at the election page. – Your drive coordinators: Stfg, Allens, and Torchiest. The article Prince Tito Friedrich Hans Andreas Alnwick of Hesse has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- As we have already decided his father is not notable this 4-year-old child cannot be notable either.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PatGallacher (talk) 12:28, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

I removed "see out-of-place artifact)" as inappropriate. We have 'See also' sections for this, and it was already there. Dougweller (talk) 14:54, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

IN RESPONSE TO UFO COMMENT
If you look at history, dating prior to the 20th century, you'll notice whether on 1. cave markings 2. ancient stone writings, to 3. paintings and even literature cite phenomena than seem to imply what in our time we term "ufo". Having said that you are correct this last century has given us a great amount of info, and it may or may not stop. In the endwe certainly are not the only living and inteligent beings in this galaxy, so the question becomes not "if" but "when" will we have CONTACT, or have we already? Thanks for your comment--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 23:41, 2 January 2013 (UTC
Ancient astronauts like todays "ufo" cannot be taken 100% true, but even if 5 % istrue then you have ,,,,,,possibility, and thats all you need.--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 00:02, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
- Againme, sorry to respond to another person on your talk page (remove this message if desired) but Ozzie, I am the primary author of (with much help from the editing community) Wikipedia's article on the cultural impact of extraterrestrial contact and I can tell you that from this and related research, that while it is widely accepted that there is intelligent life within our galaxy, and while extraterrestrial probes and artifacts within our Solar System are being seriously considered as means of contacting humans, that only a small percent of UFO stories have no likely explanation that is of terrestrial origin.
I'm nobody to deny the existence of other intelligent life (there are probably hundreds of such species in our galaxy), and this life may have visited Earth in the past, but I don't think they would directly show themselves to humans in their current and past pathetic states of civilization, let alone influence their culture. Wer900 • talk 01:32, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
Unfortunately , there I would disagree,,,,,,the airspace , and air controllers around one of the busiest airports in the US (if not the world) cannot afford to have an unknown on there screen http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/24/chicago-ohare-ufo-leslie-_n_692515.html........this link indicates at the begining of the article the state of mind of pilots and other professionals when they saw the object in question.--Ozzie10aaaa (talk) 17:48, 3 January 2013 (UTC)

Abdication vs Resignation
I won't argue - but please try to discuss the matter. I think now it's bad - because information in Papal resignation contradicts Abdication - and it looks messy. I think that one version for both articles (for example A. is used for historical papacies (until Y century) and from them on proper term is R. or longer information) shall be included. (Well - mostly because there's also theological argument (I don't think we should treat Pope now as "standard" elected monarch..., at least not after 1870).
Also - using "I'm an XXX with YYY years of experience in ZZZ" is not a good argument in internet... - as it is most of the time impossible to confirm. More important for me is that you are a wikipedian with long experience and many edits - which means that you know what are you doing. ;) I won't edit it further - but please - discuss the matter for the sake of internal consistency of those two articles. BR Migatu (talk) 23:31, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
- Hi! I thinkt that it's a good idea to include our talk into discussion. I agree that Wikipedia is not a Church ;) But also I think that we should pay same care to Church's naming convention as we are paying to other countries organizations. For example - we are not using terms like "forced resignation" or "abdication" for i.e. impeachment of US president - because procedure formally is known like that in US law (other differences here are of less concern - I only want to point out that we should use normative sources before narrative etc.). Besides that I disagree with the argument that "it would unecessarily cast more "democratic" patina on the Papacy than it deserves" - Papacy is really curious (and in many cases internally contradictory with itself) form of governmnent over... hm something between multinational "country", corporation and spontaneous group of followers. It has some elements of absolute monarchy (to the extremum with Papal infallibility ) but also of elective monarchy ("Monarch" is elected by electors), whats makes it even more convoluted it's the fact that membership is more or less voluntary and "ruling class" is forming from members during their lives. I don't think that simple saying that Pope is monarch like any other is precise enought. Church is definitely not a democracy - but also not a monarchy. The nearest idea I have for describing it's organization is "what if people in early medieval were trying to organize multinational zaibatsu" ;) I don't know how to solve this issue - and has classic "no time for nothing" problem right now - so community will have to sort this out without my radiant guidance ;) :P.
As of your credentials - still not sure - you can also be a reptillian from Mars trying to persuade us to follow your Dark Masters :P Migatu (talk) 17:06, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

Wikilinking
Hi, and thanks for your work on the English Wikipedia.
I noticed an article you worked on. Just a short note to point out that we don’t normally link:
- dates
- years
- commonly known geographical terms (including well-known country-names), and
- common terms you’d look up in a dictionary (unless significantly technical).
(This even applies for infoboxes.)
Thanks and my best wishes.

The article Alvaro Galindo has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.
If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of Gabriel Delponte
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Gabriel Delponte requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
