Thanks for raising this SPI, but on investigating I found an older sockmaster and an existing SPI at WP:Sockpuppet investigations/FilmMakers00023. So I have added your FilmMakers20168 to that, and also no less than seven other obvious socks. I'll say one thing for this guy, at least he makes it easy to keep track of him! Ar you sure about your template? I was quickly looking at it and it looks to me there is enough at least for a standard deletion procedure.--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:10, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, what do you mean by a "standard deletion procedure"? Do you mean a prod, or an AFD, or a different speedy deletion criteria? OnionRing (talk) 14:11, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
sorry I am not a super experct of deletions in enwiki (on itwiki, frwiki and dewiki I am, but not here). If you use "slang" without links I am not 99% sure, but I guess it is what is called an "Articles for deletion (AfD) discussion", I had that in mind. I've left a small message in Talk:André Laug (company).--Alexmar983 (talk) 14:28, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for my use of slang. Yes, by "prod or AFD" I meant WP:Proposed deletion or an Articles for deletion (AfD) discussion. If it were merely a question of notability, then yes an AFD would be appropriate, but the article is blatant WP:SPAM, so speedy deletion is the better choice. OnionRing (talk) 14:35, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
that's no spam. It is a description. If you want to reduce some part, help yourself, I am starting to read it, but a deletion is too hard. --Alexmar983 (talk) 14:41, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps it's hard to detect for someone whose second language is English: I would find spam difficult to detect in French or Spanish, certainly. But the whole article needs a rewrite, per WP:CSF#G11. OnionRing (talk) 14:44, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't think it is so critical, I speak English since I am 8 years old (I can imitate even the accents), and I come form itWikipedia which is one of the less inclusive wikipedia in the world. The style is not so bad, it mainly centers on past events and it actually relies on the sources. See also Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Fashion#Andr.C3.A9_Laug_.28company.29, they have just pinged me.--Alexmar983 (talk) 15:13, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Mark as patrolled

[edit]

Hi!
If you have tagged a new page for speedy deletion (like Wildstylerecords or HDI youth marketeers), can you please also mark the page as patrolled? No further action should be needed by other patrollers, so this helps avoid unnecessary work for others. Cheers. Kolbasz (talk) 06:43, 24 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the editing on the R9-Arms submachine gun article

[edit]

First off, thanks for the editing. It's my first article and I have a few questions.

1: There is information that is cited in the sources, but is factually incorrect. However, there are no good sources to back up the correct version. The most technical information available is from a reddit thread. Is there anything I can do?

2: I reverted the removal of the Speculation as to the gun's origin section, sourced it (I finally figured out how to do inline citations) and edited it to follow WP:BLP. Is this acceptable, or is the problem larger than I thought?

Thanks again Astor Thrope (talk) 16:05, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The source looks good for that last section. Regarding the problem with incorrect info in sources, how do we know that they're incorrect? We need to be able to WP:VERIFY any contentious claims, and unfortunately personal knowledge is considered WP:Original research which is not allowed on Wikipedia. Reddit is also not considered to be a WP:Reliable source. So we have to stick with what we can verify for now. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 16:13, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Glad the last section is good. As for the problem with incorrect information, there isn't anything too glaring. There that could be said that is left off, and only really one thing that is flat out untrue (the gun doesn't take Uzi mags, they just look a lot like Uzi mags). I'm not sure if I should leave it as is or remove the reference to it using Uzi mags, especially considering that the only source to the contrary is personal knowledge. I'm leaving it as is for now, but it just sorta bothers me that it's wrong. Astor Thrope (talk) 19:39, 27 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, just wanted to let you know I'd reviewed your speedy nomination for Josh Schicker. While the G11 nomination was correct, you'd also flagged the page as a copyright violation of [2]. That remote site explicitly states that "All user-contributed text on this page is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License." CC-BY-SA material is generally compatible with Wikipedia, since we also use CC-BY-SA. Not a big deal since the page needed to be deleted as advertising anyway, but just wanted to make you aware to check for a compatible free license before flagging something as a copyvio. Hello! I speak in reference to my speedy deletion tag on the article Inquizzitive (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/inquizzitive). This doesn't meet the criteria for deletion because it's not an organized event about party or tour. It is about an open to all annual quiz event, the oldest one in Tripura, India that has been taking place for 12 years now and completes 13 years this year. This has been well recognized by the Honorable Chief Minister of the state, Sri Manik Sarkar. This has been an authentic event for the last decade and has a reputation of it's on. I repaired your cut n paste move

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Aftermath (Muse) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Aftermath (Muse song). This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:34, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I am autoconfirmed, but as I'm not an admin I couldn't move the new article over the 2-edit redirect. Yes, I could have requested the non-controversial move at RFM, but since I was merging a brand new article to a redirect, there was no edit history lost, and I credited the new article in my edit summary. It was a case of WP:BOLD. If that's a problem, then feel free to revert and insist I do an RFM. But I can't really see the point in this case. I have no other similar moves in my edit history, so no need for a RFHM either. OnionRing (talk) 23:37, 3 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I already undid your cut n paste move and moved the page properly. Please don't take shortcuts of this kind. Here's a better shortcut: Let me know on my talk page and I will promptly move the page for you. — Diannaa (talk) 21:11, 4 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Brendan Dassey

[edit]

Hi

Sorry I do not know how to respond via Wikipedia - I have spent the day repurposing it and adding more citations and removing bias - I posted on Reddit to see what sort of response the piece would get - I do think you are being quite presumptuous, as you will note I have painstakingly gone through the piece to ensure everything is corroborated and added the correct references.

I did not respond to you because I dont know how to navigate Wikipedia as yet and have only worked it out now - I thought your offer was very generous I just didnt know how to take you up on it.

Please dont think I have an agenda except to ensure there is a profile for Brendan Dassey in its own right on Wikipedia, Redditt is a rabbit hole and I put it up for response nothing more.

Close Connection notification in my new article

[edit]

Hello there, OnionRing. Thank you for your feedback on my first article here in Wikipedia - Humberto Silva.

I'm here to respond to your claim that my article has a conflict of interest, because I may be related in some way with the person in which the article is about. I understand the reason that leads you to think it, probably because of my username includes a lastname that is the same as the person of the article, that lastname being Silva. But that lastname is maybe one of the most common name in Brazil and, both me and the person who I wrote the article about, are from that same country. But that's the only related thing that I have in common with the person of the article. I repeat, I'm not related with the person Humberto Silva in any manner, we are simply from the same country and share a very common lastname.

Again I appreciate your review and feedback on my article, I'm very much open for more discussion that can lead me to became a better Wikipedian! Julio.frasneli.silva (talk) 17:09, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.I'm glad to hear you have no connection to Mr Silva, but it wasn't on the basis of the surname alone than I guessed a conflict of interest: the tone of the article is highly promotional throughout, and there are several unsourced claims. Let's try to improve the article. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 17:58, 8 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi OnionRing. Thank you for your work on patrolling pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for 3d hologram pyramid, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, under criterion A1 because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. It was a badly written article, but it gave enough context to identify its subject, namechecking two manufacturers. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers, criteria for speedy deletion, and particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion or proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. Hi Lizzius, yes the article can be protected from re-creation, temporarily or permanently: see WP:Requests for page protection. Shout if you'd like a hand with that: I see it's been deleted twice today already. OnionRing (talk) 14:56, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Aparna Vinod

[edit]

Hello OnionRing, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Aparna Vinod, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: wasn't deleted via AfD, AfD was closed owing to a G5 speedy deletion. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. —SpacemanSpiff 17:45, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Aha, you're right, sorry. OnionRing (talk) 17:46, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, this is a borderline A7 case and if I hadn't seen the AfD I would have deleted it as such, but I decided against A7 deletion (because of the keep vote at the AfD) and just leaving the PROD intact. —SpacemanSpiff 17:49, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
She appears to have had some coverage in WP:RS over her behaviour in her first feature film, so this will have to go back to AFD by the look of it. OnionRing (talk) 17:51, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Percy Rivington Pyne

[edit]

There are SIX men that have bore the name. I had listed all six. You have eliminated PRP III. Any historical reason why? Also you have directed Percy Rivington Pyne II (1857 - 1929) AND Percy Rivington Pyne 2nd (1882 - 1950) to the SAME article. THEY ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rbabecki (talkcontribs) 20:49, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Chaudry Muhammad Ali

[edit]

Hi there, I've noticed you tagging new articles as CSD:A7 within about a minute of them having being created, in the future try to give the such pages around 10 minutes before tagging and also please make a background check of the article for notability. In the instance of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MuhammadAliChudry for example, the person is indeed notable and has their own wikipedia page already which you can find here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaudhry_Muhammad_Ali, this would make the page you tagged as A7 more appropriately an A10 (Duplicate page). In any case this is just a heads up to do a quick google search of any article you're about to tag regardless of how little content there is, obviously I do not count attack pages or blatant hoaxes in these situations, tag those immediately if you find them (G10 and G3). Have a good day Mr rnddude (talk) 14:01, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, have a look at his talk page: all he's done is post up vanity pages. I do normally wait 10 minutes, unless it's obviously a repeat post or an obvious case of someone misplacing their user page. I've tried userfying pages like this, but most often they get deleted by admins. OnionRing (talk) 14:03, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I see, I actually didn't think to check their userpage, shows how good my checks are eh? Mr rnddude (talk) 14:05, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No worries mate, there are a lot of trigger-happy NPP editors bashing potentially good articles a minute after they've been started by new editors, but I do try hard to keep to the spirit as well as the letter of the guidelines. I also try to clean up new articles where a quick cleanup will prevent a G11 or a BLP prod. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 14:08, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
All good, happy CSD tagging. Mr rnddude (talk) 14:09, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of Interest

[edit]

Hello, OnionRing! Thanks so much for the message. This is the first time I've contributed to Wikipedia so I apologize for my ignorance! Just wanted to follow up with a couple questions: I do have a conflict of interest as a member of the band (although the username is intended to represent myself as an individual rather than the band as an organization), is there any way for the text to be reviewed by a third party like yourself to ensure that it's not "whitewashing" or "promotional" or otherwise in violation of guidelines?

My primary reason for writing the article this morning was to clear up confusion between "The Mallett Brothers Band" and my father David Mallett, who has an existing wikipedia page, due to a recent unexplained increase in the number of older folks showing up to our shows thinking they were seeing our father... a quandary for us, him and them.

Let me know if there's any way to clear that up; I do work for The Mallett Brothers Band, for full disclosure; but if there's any way an editor could check the text out or find another solution that would work without violating any guidelines, that would be amazing; otherwise, I totally understand the policy, no worries at all and thanks again.

Wdmallett (talk) 17:54, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing overly promotional in the article at the moment, but I would suggest that you avoid editing the article further. Let someone unconnected with your band do it. If you're notable, they will eventually. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 17:58, 15 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Srabonti Narmeen Ali

[edit]

Hi OnionRing! Yes I did create an identical account under the name Srabonti Narmin Ali, but I realized later that the spelling of the latter was mistaken. If we could keep the page for Srabonti Narmeen Ali, and delete the other Srabonti Narmin Ali, that would be great. As for the references, I added two links at the bottom but was unable to create a separate References section. Sorry I am new to Wikipedia and trying to get a hang of this thing. You could edit it if you like and add in a References section with the two links I posted. Let me know what I need to do. Thanks.

Namster86 (talk) 09:32, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Namster86. Neither article has references yet from WP:Reliable sources, so both will be deleted shortly unless you can find some. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 10:38, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edits at the above page, but it appears you may have unintentionally edit warred. Per BRD, it's probably best to take the discussion to the talk page at this point. I've speedy nom'd the links added by the other editor per A1 and A3. Regards, James (talk/contribs) 15:15, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted once, and then edited his broken link. I wasn't planning to edit it again, but what I've done so far isn't exactly edit warring. The new editor in question has been creating empty articles with misspelled titles. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 15:17, 16 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I appreciate the welcome and the help on editing the Monster Moto page. I added the company logo, however it was removed for copyright violation. I believe because it was applied under the CC license incorrectly. Since I am not autoconfirmed yet, I was hoping for a little help on how I should properly add the Company Logo to the page? While it is trademarked, it is obviously available for fair use so we'd like to make it available on Wikipedia. What is my best course of action? Thanks!

[edit]

Thank you for contacting me about the page for the Institute for Advanced Studies in the Humanities (IASH) at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Institute_for_Advanced_Studies_in_the_Humanities. You said to me "you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article." This is just to confirm that I am not the IASH, I do not work for IASH, I do not represent IASH, and I am not the subject of the article. I happen to work in Edinburgh where IASH is based, and I have attended a couple of IASH events. I don't think, however, that this adds up to a conflict of interest. @Xx236: No, you have it completely backwards. I removed a db-nocontext added by a trigger-happy NPP to a new article which was completely clear about its subject. It's an unreferenced one-line stub, but rather than whine at me on my talk page about how it's "one of the worst pages in this Wikipedia", did it occur to you to Google for it? The first article returned says that it's one of the most important sites in Iran for an endemic species. If the creator's writing autobiographies, then deal with that separately. OnionRing (talk) 09:10, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I believe you the subject is notable. Bad many sources are in farsi. There are plenty of such substubs since 2010 or longer. Similar case is Cheshmeh Kileh River.Xx236 (talk) 09:16, 20 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it was automatically marked reviewed by you when you added the CSD template from Twinkle. I later saw that the article author removed the speedy deletion template themselves. Just wondering, is it notable enough? Or should it be sent to AfD? --Lemongirl942 (talk) 04:14, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. It was originally just a paste of marketing from their website, bud the article creator did a complete rewrite, so I let the removal of the speedy tag slide. It seems reasonably notable per WP:CORP, but if you disagree you can always take it to AFD. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 06:32, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ritmo (musician)

[edit]

Hi, I've re-writen everything, used a language that suit for wikipedia , I added more references, I removed everything that looks like a promotion, and I compared it and took reference from 5 other musician from the same genre. I do not understand what is promotional if I have external third party articles and information that comes from leading magazines of the musical genre.... Thanks for your time, ElectronicWiki (talk) 09:24, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

JimFBleak already explained this to you at your talk page. I'm curious: are you Dubi Dagan? OnionRing (talk) 09:33, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not. I think there are many psytrance artists that should be in wikipedia as a source of information. I do love his work and music style and I'm a fan of the psychedelic music scene, plus we are from the same town and I know his work, but I do not know him in person. that's why I choose to write about him. It was much more comfortable for me to start a wikipedia page on him instead of a huge psytrance atists. can you please remove it from speedy deletion, and check that I did really changed a lot of the content...— Preceding unsigned comment added by ElectronicWiki (talkcontribs) 10:35, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
All you've removed is this. It's still highly promotional. OnionRing (talk) 12:25, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply, I just want to let you know that I edited the article on my computer localy and in the sandbox that's why you don't have the log file of the edits I've done and just this text deletion I did. I have a copy of both articles there are way much more change than that. this is just a small change I did earlier so the page won't be promotional at all, I can assure you that if you have read the first article and this article you would notice a huge change. I think that I did broke few rules (not by purpose) in the first article, but I did change a lot in the second one this I can promise. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ElectronicWiki (talkcontribs) 12:40, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

South Australian Railways CSDs

[edit]

I see several CSD's relating to South Australian Railways. On one hand, these might be a little premature, as the editor just started working on them today. On the other hand, I am firmly of the belief that while we use to allow "under construction" and mainspace years ago, that's no longer accepted practice especially given the existence of draft space.

One option is to contact the editor note that they should not be creating articles this way, urged them to start such articles in draft space and only move them into mainspace when they are far enough along to meet our standards.

In some cases, it might be polite to offer to move these incomplete articles to draft space for them, although I'll understand if you think it would be less work to blow them away and urged the editors to start over.

This is a new editor's would like to approach the editor in a positive way. What do you think?--S Philbrick(Talk) 15:23, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Yes I definitely agree on moving them to draft. It looks he was trying to populate the redlinks at South Australian Railways#SAR steam locomotives. You might have seen that I offered him some help at User talk:Jjbm2011#Please slow down, with a pointer to a good train article to use as as template. But I'm happy to help with draftifying (if that's a real word) those stub articles. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 15:28, 21 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

An article is not empty fro the purpose of speedy deletion if it has an infobox that contain content which could trivially be rewritten into an article. Zona Maco art fair

[edit]

Hi OnionRing,

Thanks so much for editing Zona Maco's profile. I just edited the first part of the page and tried to do it as neutral as possible, trying to remove promotional content, but I would like to ask you if it still contains that kind of content.

Also I added a reference in the section "Current team" in bottom of the page, trying to solve another of your notes.

Thanks im advance!

Appaforcello (talk) 07:28, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, it's looking a lot better now. But most of the article is unreferenced: the references are all about Zélika García so far. OnionRing (talk) 07:33, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Creation of Aaryan Zaveri

[edit]

Hi! I want you to create an article on Aaryan Zaveri. He is a junior Indian Tennis player who has represented India for the world junior championships at bangkok and also at Vietnam. His achievements are notable and should be on Wikipedia. (Wikipediaarticles1 (talk) 12:01, 23 June 2016 (UTC))[reply]

That article was deleted 11 days ago at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aaryan Zaveri. Unless he's achieved something truly remarkable in the last 11 days, then you should respect the WP:Consensus at that deletion discussion. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 12:12, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Greeting,

I am the representative from the Judith Kestenberg Foundation, and all of the copy rights are under my organization. We had an issue with this in the past? So if you could be more informative on why its not aloud to be published on wiki it would help us greatly,

Hello Smithzv31. Unfortunately Wikipedia is legally obliged to remove or cover up any content that's under copyright. If you are the owner of the content, please see WP:IOWN for more information. You're welcome to ask back here if any of that isn't clear. In the meantime, I'll cover up the page until the copyright issue is sorted. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 15:45, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If we just delete that section so I can continue to work on that page... Is that ok or? Basically I am told what to put wiki and then its my job to edit and source all the material. Let me know, Smithzv31Smithzv31 (talk) 16:20, 23 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

deletionFinder

[edit]

Hi OnionRing. Thanks for G4-tagging Shylaja Chetlur. We have a little script, User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js, that checks to see if a page has been previously deleted or discussed at AfD; if it has, deletionFinder.js provides links to the deletion log and/or AfDs to the right of the article title. Install it by adding the following to your common.js or your skin script file: {{subst:js|User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js}}, save and bypass your browser cache. For an example go to Emil Nielsen where, to the right of the article title, you see the blue prev dels and prev AfDs links when the script has been been loaded. Prisoner

[edit]

Hello, OnionRing, I placed an "excessively long quote" at the end of the music video table for the article I created titled, Prisoner (Steve Angello song). Obviously, you recognized the "excessively long quote," and purged it from the page. Well that "excessively long quote" was there for a reason, otherwise, it presumably would not have been placed there. That "excessively long quote" was used to help divulge the music video's description, while simultaneously, it also provided information as to when, where and how the video's concept was conceived and created. By now, you should already know that Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia, not a concise summary to some book; and therefore no information, not even a "quote," is too "excessive." Removing an informative quote for being too "excessive," is, I believe, superfluous, and ultimately childish. Here on Wikipedia, I've seen an abundance of "excessive" quotes. In fact, I've even seen excessively "excessive" quotes. But nevertheless, I did not see those quotes be withdrawn from their page, nor did I see someone else, someone like you so to speak, remove them from their page. Therefore I give birth to this question in its partially informal context: isn't there someone else's page to "edit" for having a quote that's too "excessive" within them ??? Because like I stated before, I've seen many "excessive" quotes in other articles that are not being removed. To culminate this letter, I say to you: I do not appreciate your judgemental edit to the Prisoner (Steve Angello song) article that I created. Though, I would appreciate it if you would return the quote to the page you found it in, regardless of your overall opinion of the quote. Thank you. Sincerely, Infopage100 Infopage100 (talk) 09:12, 24 June 2016 (UTC)User:Infopage100Infopage100 (talk) 09:12, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's neither childish nor judgmental, it's a matter of editorial policy, as noted at WP:LONGQUOTE. It was about a quarter of the article, and also mildly promotional: better for the article to be written from a WP:Neutral point of view than to give the song's author free reign to talk about how important the song is. A concise summary of that quote, referenced, is still a good idea though. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 10:35, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fine......... ē_ē. I guess that sounds like a good idea. You could have done that though instead of deleting the whole entire quote. :/ Infopage100 (talk) 00:23, 25 June 2016 (UTC)Infopage100Infopage100 (talk) 00:23, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And indeed I would have, if you'd referenced it. I see the article is still mostly unreferenced, with no indication of how the song is notable per WP:NSONG. OnionRing (talk) 12:05, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Though.... how does clarifying a song's importance breach the system of NPOV??? I'm not necessarily taking to one side of the story, I'm simply putting out "neutral" information. User:Infopage100 (talk, contributions) Infopage100 (talk) 15:45, 25 June 2016 (UTC)User:Infopage100Infopage100 (talk) 15:45, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Clarifying a song's importance needn't breach the guidelines for WP:NPOV. But as I wrote above, the artist isn't the most objective person for the task. WP:NSONG describes the right ways to show how a song is notable: multiple, WP:Secondary coverage in WP:Reliable sources, evidence that the song charted, etc.

Dispero Ras Siento

[edit]

Hello my friend no i am not write like a fun :) , i am reporter here in greece and i write a many articles in magazines , this is my first article in wikipedia and i write an article for Dispero Ras Siento step by step.... thank you Natasha Pap (talk) 4:22, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Hello Natasha. I'm sure your intentions are the very best, but the language of the article is not quite written from a WP:Neutral point of view, which along with the large amount of detail does indeed make the encyclopaedia article resemble a fan page or a music magazine article. Am I correct in guessing that you're a music journalist? Let's work to improve the article. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 13:30, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Ok if you can help me with this i am be thankful about you :) so , how you believe is the best way for this WP:Neutral point of view , i mean i am not good to write an article with all this codes but i try Natasha Pap (talk) 4:47, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Wooow you are very very very good i am trying to read all this and you are fix it in 5 minite i am trying to fix it in 5 monts :p heheh but the corect word of Greece is Hellas. Natasha Pap (talk) 4:58, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Hellas is indeed correct, but almost never used by English speakers. We also use Great Britain in preference to Albion, except in poetry. OnionRing (talk) 14:02, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And you clean all references thank you very much cause was to much :p i check now step by step and i want to ask you about the beggining you delete something about the styles with the music and how it works...is ok like that? cause in last.fm and other site this guys is write little be different ...i am sorry for my english :p Natasha Pap (talk) 5:09, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Αγγλικά σας είναι πολύ καλύτερη από ό, τι τα ελληνικά μου. :-) Yes, that's right, the style used on magazines and music websites like Last.FM is just fine for their purposes, but on Wikipedia we're asked to use a style that's less journalistic, and more neutral. Magazines are looking to convey "impact", but we want to just tell the facts in a neutral tone. I also notice that a lot of the sources cited are blogs, which are not really WP:Reliable sources. Let's try to improve those. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 14:15, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Heheheh :) your hellenic is good . So i have 2 more site to put in references do you want to send this here? or to i put to article and you see it..? Natasha Pap (talk) 5:20, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Thank you. You could create the articles as drafts, so we could make them really good before they're published. To make a draft, let's use an example: if you were going to create an article called Imam Baildi Greatest Thrash Metal Party Mixes, you can create a draft by simply calling it Draft:Imam Baildi Greatest Thrash Metal Party Mixes. Once it's finished, we then move it to the main article space. Easy. OnionRing (talk) 14:25, 24 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Before i move it to article space i create this article in sandbox but now is not good to delete and start from the beggin cause i start to write about the cd/album . Natasha Pap (talk) 5:31, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

I have a question about the beginning of article this "orphan" and that you write about "fans write view" can we fix it? and tomorow i put more references with they way you teach me to i write :) Natasha Pap (talk) 5:41, 24 June 2016 (UTC)

Remove deletion for Michael Topschij Page

[edit]

The Michael Topschij page has been nominated for deletion. The person has thousands of followers on twitter, and has developed several well received mobile applications in addition to owning two companies at the age of 20. He has featured in multiple articles in the news and national television. He has also received promotion from his university and other notable sources. Michael Topschij page has been deleted

[edit]

The Michael Topschij page has been deleted with no valid reason, the re-posted content added several new sources and yet this was not noticed at all by an admin. Those that said delete did not make any mention of the various news articles, and one even commented that he had 3000 followers when he currently has over 7,000. This deletion is unfounded and ungrounded. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Justicebrownx (talkcontribs) 04:00, 25 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, OnionRing. Several days ago you have deleted my article "Roundme" due to unambigious advertising matter. I want to let you know, that I understood my fault and rewrote the article in a neutral manner. After doing so I wanted to publish my newly created article again but saw that "protection lock" on my original way of creation. The system directed me to "talk page" with you to solve the dispute. Declined speedy deletion

[edit]

With great reluctance, I have declined your speedy deletion nomination of Etika, and substituted a WP:PROD. You said that it duplicated the article Ethics, but one is about the philosophical concept ethics, while the other is about a word which is used to refer to that concept, and the word "etika" is not even mentioned in the article Ethics, nor should it be. In my opinion we should have a speedy deletion criterion which covers articles of this sort, but we don't, so we'll just have to let the article linger for a week until the PROD to expires, I'm afraid. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 11:54, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not a problem, I take your point and I think you've done the right thing. Thanks for letting me know. OnionRing (talk) 11:55, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I have now realised there is a better way to deal with this. I have added a mention of Malay to the Wiktionary page on etika, and I shall now delete the Wikipedia article as a page which has been transwikied. While I'm here, I will take the opportunity to mention that for some time now I have been noticing your work in relation to new pages, and I think you are doing a very good job. From the speed with which you got going successfully, and the knowledge you have of how Wikipedia Works, I guess you must have edited before you created this account, either as an IP editor or from another account. Am I right? The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:09, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the transwiki. That's right, I was an IP editor who got guiltified into creating an account, by another editor who may well have been my mother, so skilled were they. :) OnionRing (talk) 12:21, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm intrigued by the idea of being "guiltified" into creating an account. If it's of any interest, many years ago I switched from IP editing to using this account for a much less interesting reason: I found I was affected by an IP block when I tried to edit at the local library. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 14:51, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Well I was harangued (good-naturedly) by an editor who said I was leaving tasks like page movement to other editors. But I have also run into page blocks, in fact I was once IP blocked on mobile 4G, even though I was already logged in and had simply plugged in a 4G dongle when the building wi-fi went down. Need advice with someone editing articles

[edit]

While I have been doing my best to keep articles un-biased and allowing multiple sources there seems to be a person who continuously removes content and purposefully removes articles because they purely "don't like" the company that makes the product. Is there a way that we can get this figured out? I'm not really sure what I am supposed to do about it. They have done legitimate things in the past, but they mostly go way out of their way to damage anything that is written in support of a particular company. Jhom526 (talk) 18:14, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, happy to help. Do you mean on the Nagios XI article? OnionRing (talk) 18:21, 27 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I am planning on adding more information to it, along with information about the company to try and clear up misunderstandings about the term "Nagios" and "Nagios Core" referring to the company and/or other projects instead of the project itself. Dear OnionRing,Thank you for reviewing my article on Nakajima Hiroyuki. I just made adjustments to the articles text, however, there isn't much I can do about the locations and exhibitions he's done. Can you please review the text again. Also, what part of the article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information? From what I can see it gives his educational background and art philosophy. Central Solar Reserve Bank of Accompong

[edit]

Thank for reviewing the Central Solar Reserve Bank of Accompong. The Central Solar Reserve Bank of Accompong is an already active state institution which is now beginning to introduce itself internationally and will be fully operative before the year's end. We kindly request that you do not delete this article. It shall be regularly updated as the state establishes its international presence and the bank becomes active particularly in Africa. The article cited:https://www.modernghana.com/news/689367/historical-meeting-between-the-kingdom-of-ashanti-and-the-ac.html, clearly indicates that Accompong and the Central Solar Reserve Bank is just beginning to engage the international community for the first time since the state's creation in 1739, which is highly notable.

How to verify content?

[edit]

Thank you for your assistance with the edits. I am very new at this and I might make some mistakes. I need to figure out how to verify that I am the author of the content on wordpress/earlymorninghenry, or find another way to do the write up of information without linking to previous sites that I created for the Gullivers People and William Butler pages. Even sending this message I am a little lost, but muddling through. cheers Earlymorninghenry (talk) 04:28, 4 July 2016 (UTC)earlymorninghenry[reply]

Hello EMH, and thanks for starting the article. He certainly sounds notable. If you'd like to sort out the copyright problem with your blog, please have a read of Wikipedia:IOWN. The simplest way to sort it out would be to add a little notification at the bottom of your webpage that all the content is licensed under the Creative Commons license, but that decision is up to you. Please feel free to ask back here if any of that isn't clear: I'd be happy to help you improve the article. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 04:31, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:Ryushin Shouchi Ryu

[edit]

Dear OnionRing, I hope all is well. I am coming to you with these questions because you were kind enough to guide me through the Nakajima Hiroyuki article. I was just wondering if someone could review what was suppose to be my first article. Its been declined several times and sent back to draft space after I moved it to article space. I have complied with every request made. Its been over 4 weeks that the article was created. Can you please help me? The link is below.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Ryushin_Shouchi_Ryu

I have also been in touch with PRehse, an experienced Wikipedian specializing in Japanese martial arts. He has been a tremendous help in teaching me how the system works and provided numerous suggestions to help improve my article (which I've taken). Please let me know if there is anything that can be done. Thank you so much for your time, help, and consideration. Hope to hear from you soon. Nihon-no-budo (talk) 14:34, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello NBD, thanks for working on the draft. As the reviewer noted, what's missing is in-depth, WP:Secondary coverage of the man. Japanese references are fine, they don't need to be in English. Good luck, OnionRing (talk) 14:41, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think it now does. There were several references added since it was last declined that are independent from the subject and cover it in more depth. I have never been involved in the AfC process preferring to get involved after articles make it to article space but in this case I am quite surprised it was returned to draft. There are numbers of articles that are copy pasted to article space from declined drafts that remain. I advised Nihon-no-budo to wait to see what the next round brings - perhaps that will drive me into the AfC process.Peter Rehse (talk) 15:39, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, I only diffed it from the last submission. You're right, it could have been accepted on the basis of the secondary sources added since it was moved to draft. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 15:41, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your input OnionRing and PRehse. So what happens next? Do you have the ability to approve the article? How about LaMona or Dodger67 who were the last ones to decline the article? Can they approve the article now that is has been updated? Thank you all for your help by they way. I appreciate your patience. Nihon-no-budo (talk) 17:38, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not an administrator and I don't normally do draft reviews. But I see on the draft page that it's already been submitted for review again, so I assume that should happen relatively quickly. If I can make that happen quicker, perhaps @PRehse: can suggest how, as I'm new to reviewing. OnionRing (talk) 17:45, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Just want to thank you for your copyvio hunts. Really important work. It should be new pages patrollers' first inquiry but so often it's not even considered (even when absurdly obvious). By the way, I partially declined your tagging of PUPHAM-RCG. Schools are exempted from A7. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:58, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That's very kind of you to say, thanks. A7 for PUPHAM-RCG was a bit of a gray area: it's a training centre, not quite a school. But that grayness means that you were as right to take it off as I was to add it. :-) OnionRing (talk) 17:02, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Fluckollin. Wikipedia is written by people who have a wide diversity of opinions, so i edited the page as per my view and tried to be as neutral as possible. It is a page regarding a public place which was not there on Wikipedia, so I started it. Every new page mostly have view of the person who start it, and then when other people edit it, it comes to neutral view point. So As per me if you don’t like it you should edit it and not delete other peoples work. Thank you and I would like to know problem in the page so I can edit it. Thank you again. Fluckollin (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 10:28, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have deleted the overtly promotional content, most of which was either unreferenced or referenced only by tourism promotion websites. As it stands now, the page is no longer promotional, but please stick to a WP:Neutral point of view: subjective terms like "beautiful", "one of the most famous", etc. are a matter of opinion. Flyve MDM / Uhuru Mobile

[edit]

Dear OnionRing,

It is nice seeing someone so active on Wikipedia and especially on Uhuru Mobile and Flyve MDM pages.

First, let me explain you the situation: Flyve MDM is a new product and Uhuru Mobile is developed by a new Editor.

Concerning Flyve MDM, the source codes will be released only in autumn : this is why its Wikipedia page is an orphan, relies on upon a single source and on primary sources. Once the codes would be released, those issues will be corrected. Indeed, more references will be added and more contributor will participate to the Wikipedia page.

Then, when we have written the article we stayed neutral by writing only facts and by describing features. Can you explain us what content is considered as an advertisement on both pages?

We will be glad to modify our content (we already did it for Flyve MDM) if the problems are clearly identified. Can you help us ? Teclib-Edition (talk) 10:31, 5 July 2016 (UTC) (Teclib-Edition)[reply]

Who is "we", please? Are you operating the account on behalf of a group? And have you read WP:Conflict of interest yet? The articles you've created are highly promotional for your company's products, and are likely to get deleted for that reason. OnionRing (talk) 10:35, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Dear OnionRing,

“We” is a community of contributors working on open source solutions. We have read WP:Conflict of interest, COI is strongly discouraged and yet not forbidden. Someone has to create the article before any contributors can participate in the content’s redaction/modification. If the content is highly promotional, show us what is bothering you, I am sure we can rephrase the sentences while explaining what the software are about. Teclib-Edition (talk) 11:21, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't edit articles about your company, and please don't edit as a WP:ROLE account on behalf of a group. If your company's products are notable, then someone will write about them eventually. OnionRing (talk) 11:23, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Arsha Aghdasi

[edit]

hi.thank you for all your help in Arsha Aghdasi I am new in Wikipedia and I'm just trying to help my friend Arsha for making a page on Wikipedia. He is a famous Stuntman in Iran. I used some valuable sites as sorce, but this article is still nominated for deletion. Would you please tell me what is wrong with my page? And what should I do for fixed it? Setareh Malek (talk) 12:39, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and you're very welcome for the help. The problem is that the article needs WP:Reliable sources to show how he's notable. Blogs aren't considered reliable sources for this, so what's needed is newspaper articles, book references, maybe a television clip if you can find that online, and so on. It doesn't have to be in English - Farsi or any language is fine. I have dug around online, and can't find much. Perhaps it's too early in his career for an article. But best of luck to you, and to Mr. Aghdasi. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 12:45, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Im so grateful for your help , thanks. Yes I can show you lots of his video on TV,(Iran television) including his reviews and performance (specially in Khandevane which is a very popular show in Iran) And I can name many newspaper and magazines that interview with him, but I don't know how should I link newspapers and videos in Wikipedia? For newspapers is that OK if I just name them and write date? Setareh Malek (talk) 13:39, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Online is best, but if you only have access to the article on paper, then just write down the name and date. If you're not sure how to do it, then just put it in the "External links" section for now, and we'll work out how to turn it into a reference later. By the way, please don't post your replies at the top of this page: post them down here. Thanks, OnionRing (talk) 13:42, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again I will do that very soon, just give me some time please. And OK, I'm sorry for that.thanks. Setareh Malek (talk) 14:00, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Is that OK to link online video from any sites like youtube or Iranian video share site like www.Aparat.com ? And how many links I'm allowed to put in external links? Setareh Malek (talk) 16:15, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Veggie Pimps

[edit]

Hi OnionRing, I've one-upped your prod template, and requested speedy deletion. The article began as a cut and paste of articles about other bands--there's never been anything substantive there to suggest notability. Cheers, 2601:188:1:AEA0:65F5:930C:B0B2:CD63 (talk) 14:45, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, yeah I looked at the history before prodding - clearly the reason it wasn't speedied on creation was that the cut & paste slipped past the NPP. The creator of Guilherme wolf tried the same technique yesterday, so it went from db-a10, to draft (upon request for more time at the talk page), then recreation of the actual article about him, to db-a7. It's been re-created again today. The reason I prodded rather than speedied is that it's been around so long, that admins prefer to prod or AFD (or redirect etc.) The COI creator has long since ceased editing from their giveaway corporate account name. Same editor, new account? Maybe. OnionRing (talk) 14:53, 7 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Thank you for your help. I've used and added to other wikipedia pages for years. This is the first time I created a page. Can you tell me if I need to adjust the formatting or anything on Christopher Hoban's page. I got a weird message from wikipedia and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. For NYC, Officer Hoban is a hero.

Marlene718 (talk) 00:24, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Marlene. The Christopher Hoban article is looking good, and don't worry about that weird message you got. It was just an automatic program called XLinkBot that reverts an edit if editors try to add a reference that's on its list of bad sources for references. In your case, it was YouTube. There's nothing wrong with YouTube on its own, but it's usually not a WP:Reliable source. XLinkBot would have done the same if you'd tried to use Facebook as a reference. But one of my many rules in life is "never worry about offending a robot." :-) OnionRing (talk) 04:30, 8 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Ryushin Shouchi Ryu

[edit]
Just wanted to update you on the progress of the Ryushin Shouchi Ryu entry. Last night it was rejected again for lack of sources, so I decided delete the contents of the draft and rewrite it. I realized that the entry contained two biographies of LIVING instructors, which of course, by wiki standards requires an extreme about of references (learned this with the Nakajima Hiroyuki entry last week). Now the entry only includes some history of the Tenshinsho Jigen Ryu (which I edited (rewrote) earlier this week) and of course history on the Ryushin Shouch Ryu. It has been up overnight and I hope it stays up, its been quite the roller coaster ride. I would like to think you again for your help and guidance through this process. I saw that you reviewed all of my entries. I will continue to work on improving them. Thank you, Nihon-no-budo (talk) 13:46, 9 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

. The content should be the same, but just in English. Because of this I edit the page, which wasn‘t according to your policy. If it is need you can delete this page, because some of information is not correct to Wikipedia policy. Then if everything is ok, she will create the new page with right content (the same as in Bulgarian). The information is not advertisement, this is international contest for all students. Not to be recognized as advertisement we want to remove the name of Isover from title and Saint-Gobain from text. The information is so helpful for all students worldwide and is encyclopedic. The references is from different articles and news published in many countries. So the contest is of global importance.

What’s the reason to think that the page is an advertisement? W5296 (talk) 07:35, 19 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Onion ring

I am contacting you regarding the page called "ayesha nazir jatt". It was created and deleted 3 months ago. She contested election on 31st of August where she was contesting against current government. As a result it was a very biased election even though majority of people voted for her. She still lost the election with a very small margin. She exposed the rigging which took place in election by collecting evidence which including seals, ballot papers as well as a video was provided when the votes where being changed in presence of returning officer and other candidate. She held press conference along with other party leaders for exposing the rigging and appearing in talk shows to discuss the case. She demanded recount of votes but they rejected her application because returning officer was also involved in rigging process.

I hope you feel she deserves to be on wiki now. I will update the story further on her page if you allow it to be published.

User group: New Page Reviewr

[edit]

Hello OnionRing.

Based on the patrols you made of new pages during a qualifying period in 2016, your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group, allowing you to review new pages and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or in some cases, tag them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed.

New page reviewing is a vital function for policing the quality of the encylopedia, if you have not already done so, you must read the new tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the various deletion criteria. If you need more help or wish to discuss the process, please join or start a thread at page reviewer talk.

  • Be nice to new users - they are often not aware of doing anything wrong.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted - be formal and polite in your approach to them too, even if they are not.
  • Don't review a page if you are not sure what to do. Just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Remember that quality is quintessential to good patrolling. Take your time to patrol each article, there is no rush. Use the message feature and offer basic advice.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In case of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, the right can be revoked at any time by an administrator. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:34, 19 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, OnionRing. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter

[edit]
Hello OnionRing,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 804 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Elvis Gomes

[edit]

Hi. I need some help urgently. Let me break this down. A page Elvis Gomes (Political figure from India) was created in 2012. It did not meet Wikipedia criteria and was deleted. Now that the subject has gained some notability, I helped edit a new page Elvis Gomes. On 27 June 2016, I believe you moved Elvis P Gomes (deleted) to Elvis Gomes. Yet the deleted page appears when a browser search is performed. My question is- how do I delete the old article entirely? Or, ensure that the correct article shows up in a search? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, and Seasons greetings :) Sleepdontweep (talk) 07:42, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

[edit]
Hello OnionRing,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 804 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

[edit]

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

Ram Iyer article

[edit]

My article Ram Iyer is being considered for deletion (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ram Iyer). Ram Iyer is the author of three study guides for the National Geographic Bee, though he is not associated with National Geographic. His son Suneil won 2nd place in the Nationals in 2007. Also, many top NGB competitors have highly recommended his books. Wikipedia already has several National Geographic Bee articles (some of which I have helped with), and I thought that an article on Ram Iyer and his very influential study guides would be helpful. What is your opinion of the Ram Iyer article? LuckyWiki26 (talk) 03:00, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello OnionRing,

Voting for coordinators has now begun HERE and will continue through/to 23:59 UTC Monday 06 March. Please be sure to vote. Any registered, confirmed editor can vote. Nominations are now closed.

Still a MASSIVE backlog

We now have 804 New Page Reviewers but despite numerous appeals for help, the backlog has NOT been significantly reduced.
If you asked for the New Page Reviewer right, please consider investing a bit of time - every little helps preventing spam and trash entering the mainspace and Google when the 'NO_INDEX' tags expire.

Why no User page

[edit]

…and the redirect to your Talk? It helps to have a static snapshot of Users, which Talk pages cannot be, because of continuing additions and archiving. Is there nothing that you wish others to consistently know about your editing or person? Would other users not benefit by seeing a static representation, rather than having to sift through a regularly changing and largely irrelevant Talk page content, to see what you're about? As much as I hated the work of creating such a page, it was done to facilitate the understanding of others. (Note, I have no critique of your work, just wish to understand how certain edits fit into your interests and responsibilities.) Absent real intelligence, one can only guess, and will therefore likely misperceive things. Le Prof Leprof 7272 (talk) 04:11, 3 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello OnionRing,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 804 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 18,511 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a a day.
  • Some editors are committing to work specifically on patrolling new pages on 15 July. If you have not reviewed new pages in a while, this might be a good time to be involved. Please remember that quality of patrolling is more important than quantity, that the speedy deletion criteria should be followed strictly, and that ovetagging for minor issues should be avoided.

Technology update:

  • Several requests have been put into Phabractor to increase usability of the New Pages Feed and the Page Curation toolbar. For more details or to suggest improvements go to Wikipedia:Page Curation/Suggested improvements

Hello OnionRing, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.

Hello OnionRing, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Announcing the NPP New Year Backlog Drive!

We have done amazing work so far in December to reduce the New Pages Feed backlog by over 3000 articles! Now is the time to capitalise on our momentum and help eliminate the backlog!

The backlog drive will begin on January 1st and run until January 29th. Prize tiers and other info can be found HERE.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.
  • The minimum weekly total maintained for all four weeks of the backlog drive.

NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

Hello OnionRing, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. Hello OnionRing, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

We can see the light at the end of the tunnel: there are currently 2900 unreviewed articles, and 4000 unreviewed redirects.

Announcing the Backlog Elimination Drive!

  • As a final push, we have decided to run a backlog elimination drive from the 20th to the 30th of June.
  • Reviewers who review at least 50 articles or redirects will receive a Special Edition NPP Barnstar: Special Edition New Page Patroller's Barnstar. Those who review 100, 250, 500, or 1000 pages will also receive tiered awards: 100 review coin, 250 review coin, 500 review coin, 1000 review certificate.
  • Please do not be hasty, take your time and fully review each page. It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing.

Chart of the New Pages Patrol backlog for the past 6 months. (Purge)

Hello OnionRing, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

June backlog drive

Overall the June backlog drive was a success, reducing the last 3,000 or so to below 500. However, as expected, 90% of the patrolling was done by less than 10% of reviewers.
Since the drive closed, the backlog has begun to rise sharply again and is back up to nearly 1,400 already. Please help reduce this total and keep it from raising further by reviewing some articles each day.

New technology, new rules
  • New features are shortly going to be added to the Special:NewPagesFeed which include a list of drafts for review, OTRS flags for COPYVIO, and more granular filter preferences. More details can be found at this page.
  • Probationary permissions: Now that PERM has been configured to allow expiry dates to all minor user rights, new NPR flag holders may sometimes be limited in the first instance to 6 months during which their work will be assessed for both quality and quantity of their reviews. This will allow admins to accord the right in borderline cases rather than make a flat out rejection.
  • Current reviewers who have had the flag for longer than 6 months but have not used the permissions since they were granted will have the flag removed, but may still request to have it granted again in the future, subject to the same probationary period, if they wish to become an active reviewer.
Editathons
  • Editathons will continue through August. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.
The Signpost
  • The next issue of the monthly magazine will be out soon. The newspaper is an excellent way to stay up to date with news and new developments between our newsletters. If you have special messages to be published, or if you would like to submit an article (one about NPR perhaps?), don't hesitate to contact the editorial team here.

NPR Newsletter No.13 18 September 2018

[edit]

Hello OnionRing, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

The New Page Feed currently has 2700 unreviewed articles, up from just 500 at the start of July. For a while we were falling behind by an average of about 40 articles per day, but we have stabilised more recently. Please review some articles from the back of the queue if you can (Sort by: 'Oldest' at Special:NewPagesFeed), as we are very close to having articles older than one month.

Project news
As part of this project, the feed will have some larger updates to functionality next month. Specifically, ORES predictions will be built in, which will automatically flag articles for potential issues such as vandalism or spam. Copyright violation detection will also be added to the new page feed. See the projects's talk page for more info.
Other
Moving to Draft and Page Mover
  • Some unsuitable new articles can be best reviewed by moving them to the draft space, but reviewers need to do this carefully and sparingly. It is most useful for topics that look like they might have promise, but where the article as written would be unlikely to survive AfD. If the article can be easily fixed, or if the only issue is a lack of sourcing that is easily accessible, tagging or adding sources yourself is preferable. If sources do not appear to be available and the topic does not appear to be notable, tagging for deletion is preferable (PROD/AfD/CSD as appropriate). See additional guidance at WP:DRAFTIFY.
  • If the user moves the draft back to mainspace, or recreates it in mainspace, please do not re-draftify the article (although swapping it to maintain the page history may be advisable in the case of copy-paste moves). AfC is optional except for editors with a clear conflict of interest.
  • Articles that have been created in contravention of our paid-editing-requirements or written from a blatant NPOV perspective, or by authors with a clear COI might also be draftified at discretion.
  • The best tool for draftification is User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js(info). Kindly adapt the text in the dialogue-pop-up as necessary (the default can also be changed like this). Note that if you do not have the Page Mover userright, the redirect from main will be automatically tagged as CSD R2, but in some cases it might be better to make this a redirect to a different page instead.
  • The Page Mover userright can be useful for New Page Reviewers; occasionally page swapping is needed during NPR activities, and it helps avoid excessive R2 nominations which must be processed by admins. Note that the Page Mover userright has higher requirements than the NPR userright, and is generally given to users active at Requested Moves. Only reviewers who are very experienced and are also very active reviewers are likely to be granted it solely for NPP activities.
List of other useful scripts for New Page Reviewing

  • Twinkle provides a lot of the same functionality as the page curation tools, and some reviewers prefer to use the Twinkle tools for some/all tasks. It can be activated simply in the gadgets section of 'preferences'. There are also a lot of options available at the Twinkle preferences panel after you install the gadget.
  • In terms of other gadgets for NPR, HotCat is worth turning on. It allows you to easily add, remove, and change categories on a page, with name suggestions.
  • MoreMenu also adds a bunch of very useful links for diagnosing and fixing page issues.
  • User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js(info): Installing scripts doesn't have to be complicated. Go to your common.js and copy importScript( 'User:Equazcion/ScriptInstaller.js' ); into an empty line, now you can install all other scripts with the click of a button from the script page! (Note you need to be at the ".js" page for the script for the install button to appear, not the information page)
  • User:TheJosh/Scripts/NewPagePatrol.js(info): Creates a scrolling new pages list at the left side of the page. You can change the number of pages shown by adding the following to the next line on your common.js page (immediately after the line importing this script): npp_num_pages=20; (Recommended 20, but you can use any number from 1 to 50).
  • User:Primefac/revdel.js(info): Is requesting revdel complicated and time consuming? This script helps simplify the process. Just have the Copyvio source URL and go to the history page and collect your diff IDs and you can drop them into the script Popups and it will create a revdel request for you.
  • User:Lourdes/PageCuration.js(info): Creates a "Page Curation" link to Special:NewPagesFeed up near your sandbox link.
  • User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/deletionFinder.js: Creates links next to the title of each page which show up if it has been previously deleted or nominated for deletion.
  • User:Evad37/rater.js(info): A fantastic tool for adding WikiProject templates to article talk pages. If you add: rater_autostartNamespaces = 0; to the next line on your common.js, the prompt will pop up automatically if a page has no Wikiproject templates on the talk page (note: this can be a bit annoying if you review redirects or dab pages commonly).

Hello OnionRing, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

Backlog

As of 21 October 2018, there are 3650 unreviewed articles and the backlog now stretches back 51 days.

Community Wishlist Proposal
Project updates
  • ORES predictions are now built-in to the feed. These automatically predict the class of an article as well as whether it may be spam, vandalism, or an attack page, and can be filtered by these criteria now allowing reviewers to better target articles that they prefer to review.
  • There are now tools being tested to automatically detect copyright violations in the feed. This detector may not be accurate all the time, though, so it shouldn't be relied on 100% and will only start working on new revisions to pages, not older pages in the backlog.

Hello OnionRing,

Community Wishlist Survey – NPP needs you – Vote NOW
  • Community Wishlist Voting takes place 16 to 30 November for the Page Curation and New Pages Feed improvements, and other software requests. The NPP community is hoping for a good turnout in support of the requests to Santa for the tools we need. This is very important as we have been asking the Foundation for these upgrades for 4 years.
If this proposal does not make it into the top ten, it is likely that the tools will be given no support at all for the foreseeable future. So please put in a vote today.
We are counting on significant support not only from our own ranks, but from everyone who is concerned with maintaining a Wikipedia that is free of vandalism, promotion, flagrant financial exploitation and other pollution.
With all 650 reviewers voting for these urgently needed improvements, our requests would be unlikely to fail. See also The Signpost Special report: 'NPP: This could be heaven or this could be hell for new users – and for the reviewers', and if you are not sure what the wish list is all about, take a sneak peek at an article in this month's upcoming issue of The Signpost which unfortunately due to staff holidays and an impending US holiday will probably not be published until after voting has closed.

NPR Newsletter No.16 15 December 2018

Hello OnionRing,

Reviewer of the Year

This year's award for the Reviewer of the Year goes to Onel5969. Around on Wikipedia since 2011, their staggering number of 26,554 reviews over the past twelve months makes them, together with an additional total of 275,285 edits, one of Wikipedia's most prolific users.

Thanks are also extended for their work to JTtheOG (15,059 reviews), Boleyn (12,760 reviews), Cwmhiraeth (9,001 reviews), Semmendinger (8,440 reviews), PRehse (8,092 reviews), Arthistorian1977 (5,306 reviews), Abishe (4,153 reviews), Barkeep49 (4,016 reviews), and Elmidae (3,615 reviews).
Cwmhiraeth, Semmendinger, Barkeep49, and Elmidae have been New Page Reviewers for less than a year — Barkeep49 for only seven months, while Boleyn, with an edit count of 250,000 since she joined Wikipedia in 2008, has been a bastion of New Page Patrol for many years.

See also the list of top 100 reviewers.

Less good news, and an appeal for some help

The backlog is now approaching 5,000, and still rising. There are around 640 holders of the NPR flag, most of whom appear to be inactive. The 10% of the reviewers who do 90% of the work could do with some support especially as some of them are now taking a well deserved break.

Really good news - NPR wins the Community Wishlist Survey 2019

At #1 position, the Community Wishlist poll closed on 3 December with a resounding success for NPP, reminding the WMF and the volunteer communities just how critical NPP is to maintaining a clean encyclopedia and the need for improved tools to do it. A big 'thank you' to everyone who supported the NPP proposals. See the results.

Training video

Due to a number of changes having been made to the feed since this three-minute video was created, we have been asked by the WMF for feedback on the video with a view to getting it brought up to date to reflect the new features of the system. Please leave your comments here, particularly mentioning how helpful you find it for new reviewers.

Hello OnionRing,

News
Discussions of interest
  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Hello OnionRing,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 804 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

(The top 100 reviewers of the year can be found here)

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Hello OnionRing,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

Hello OnionRing,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

Hello OnionRing,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

[edit]
New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello OnionRing,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello OnionRing,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 852 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello OnionRing,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 12089 articles, as of 00:00, 11 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello OnionRing,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Hi OnionRing,

Invitation

For those who may have missed it in our last newsletter, here's a quick reminder to see the letter we have drafted, and if you support it, do please go ahead and sign it. If you already signed, thanks. Also, if you haven't noticed, the backlog has been trending up lately; all reviews are greatly appreciated.

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

New pages patrol needs your help!

[edit]
New pages awaiting review as of June 30th, 2023.

Hello OnionRing,

The New Page Patrol team is sending you this impromptu message to inform you of a steeply rising backlog of articles needing review. If you have any extra time to spare, please consider reviewing one or two articles each day to help lower the backlog. You can start reviewing by visiting Special:NewPagesFeed. Thank you very much for your help.

New pages patrol newsletter

[edit]

Hello OnionRing,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
