Are there any editors here?

Hi I'm thinking of nominating this page for deletion but wanted to see if there were any active editors on the page willing to work on it before I did that? I'm seeing a lot of problems that look like they have been around awhile with no one trying to fix them and unsure if he actually has enough notability for an individual page.Peachywink (talk) 03:30, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Please remove " Jeon Jungkook's boyfriend

Someone please remove the phrase " Jeon Jungkook's boyfriend" from the mobile site. This is just a wish by fans and nothing official. Neither Taehyung or Jungkook confirmed that they are dating and an information like that shoudn't be part of the summary bio. Thanks JadeFlower (talk) 17:01, 22 March 2017 (UTC)

I want to edit "V's" name because it is NOT his birth given name and it is triggering to others like me who want him to be known as Kim Taehyung which he has also said on live tv and many programs that he wants to be called and known as "Taehyung" rather than "V" because he does not to be recognized as a public figure as "V" which is a stage name. I do hope you understand the change I want to make towards this, thank you! Phungaay (talk) 16:39, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

Positions and roles

MOS:LEADBIO states that "The lead sentence should describe the person as he or she is commonly described in reliable sources. [...] Emphasize what made the person notable. Incidental and non-notable roles (i.e. activities that are not integral to the person's notability) should usually not be mentioned in the lead paragraph."

V is not commonly described as a "record producer" in reliable sources. At no point in his career has producing been a significant part of his activities; he is credited as a co-producer on only two songs (in 2015 and 2017), of which only the first was an official release. I have thus removed "record producer" from the lead sentence. OrangeTopaz (talk) 22:39, 20 December 2018 (UTC)

Why V?

Is there a story to the name? Is it Korean or English? Is the sound “vee” used in Korean?

I would like to see more on the “I purple you” line. What inspired it?

And (if it’s documented); several of the band seem quite Western (Caucasian); including V. Is there a story there?

Solo activities and record producer

"It broke SoundCloud records for the highest number of likes within 24 hours, accumulating over 372,000 and reaching 100 million streams in just fifteen days. This is a record breaking nine times in a row, reaching from 20 million to 100 million streams in the shortest period of time. "Scenery" also drew favorable comments and praises from more than 120 foreign media articles after its release." --> These informations were there since February and was suddenly changed to simply: "The song received generally favorable reviews following its release" this May. The original context was how the original reference was phrased. While I agree that it can be rephrased, I strongly disagree that the whole context should be deleted. This has a proper reference. Next time, please check the reference thoroughly before you decide it isn't sourced.

Regarding the "record producer", I believe that is debatable but I added it based from what I've seen from BTS' Jungkook's page whereas they have the same number of produced songs. I've also seen some articles where BTS' V has been recognized as a producer. One of these are from TIME: [1]. -> Shanella12345 (talk) 05:18, 3 May 2019 (UTC)

I changed the first because adding stats regarding individual music sites is against policy, see WP:BADCHARTS. Both Spotify and Apple Music/iTunes is mentioned as deprecated, I don't see why SoundCloud should be the exception. And what is 120 "foreign" media sites? What sites? Why do we care? Are they notable sites, or some random gossip blog? And foreign to whom? Not Korean? What's relevant is that the song was critically praised. If you want to find a specific quote from a notable music publication discussing the song, then you're welcome to add it, as long as you put it in quotation marks and credit the author and publication.
That's why I rephrased it and deleted the "foreign media sites" part. I would like to suggest just leaving the information about the song reaching 100 million streams in 15 days. Shanella12345 (talk) 05:43, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
That doesn't change WP:BADCHARTS. We don't include Spotify streaming numbers, why should we include SoundCloud numbers? I'm not opposed with giving more elaborate detail in its reception, but SoundCloud records aren't what should be added. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 15:46, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Regarding producer, on what song has V received a producer credit? On his solo songs he's credited with lyrics and composition, including Scenery, but not production. Thus, he's not a record producer. This doesn't diminish the fact that he's a composer/lyricist (aka he writes music), but this falls under the blanket title of songwriter. Jungkook has received the credit of "producer" on Magic Shop and Love is Not Over. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 03:08, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
V has been credited as a producer on "Hold Me Tight" and "4 o'clock". Even if 4 o'clock wasn't an official BTS song, it was copyrighted by KMCA. Shanella12345 (talk) 05:43, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Slow Rabbit produced Hold Me Tight. Taehyung wrote lyrics/composed it. You're correct that he produced 4 O'Clock though, so note it in the songs written section and add that he produced it with Namjoon to the body, please. Then you can add it to the lead/infobox. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 15:46, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes, Slow Rabbit is the main producer but V also has production credits on Hold Me Tight not just from lyrics and melody. It was indicated in the "Career" section that he also co-produced 4 o'clock with RM. I just don't understand why the "record producer" can't be added in the lead sentence whereas it has the same circumstances with Jungkook. There are also other producers who participated with Magic Shop and Love is not Over besides Jungkook. — Shanella12345 (talk) 04:16, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
I own HYYH 1 and Young Forever, he's not a credited producer on Hold Me Tight in the liner notes. And I'm not opposed to having record producer in the lead, please read my other reply, where this is explicitly said. It just has to be noted in the body too. Nothing in the article can only be in the lead, it must be in the body in addition to the lead. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 05:29, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
I'm not sure if I fully understood what you mean. It was already indicated in the "Career (Solo activities)" section about RM and V as producers of 4 o'clock. Isn't that the body? Would it be fine now to add "record producer" in the lead sentence? —Shanella12345 (talk) 07:33, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes. I've added it and expanded the critical reception of Scenery. I hope both are acceptable. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 23:00, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Yes, thank you. —Shanella12345 (talk) 04:05, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
I gave my reasons above for removing "record producer" from the lead and I don't see any new information which justifies putting it back in. Record producing is only an incidental role for V, and as per MOS:LEADBIO, it does not belong in the lead. OrangeTopaz (talk) 14:34, 1 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi,I wonder why other artists pages can include information about Spotify and Soundcloud ,but only this page can't? , such as

-Jimin (singer) Upon release, the song broke the record for SoundCloud's most streamed song in 24 hours.[25]

-Drake The album broke both the one-day global records on Spotify and Apple Music, as it gained 132.45 million and 170 million plays on each streaming service, respectively.[23]

-Khalid(singer) Following the release of Free Spirit, Khalid was reported to have become the biggest global artist on Spotify, hitting 50.4 million monthly listeners on the streaming platform, and subsequently surpassing Ariana Grande.[36][37]

-Ariana Grande On Spotify, the song became the fastest song to reach 100 million streams in 11 days and most-streamed song by a female artist in a 24-hour period with 9.6 million streams, before it was surpassed by her own song "7 Rings" with nearly 15 million streams.[165]

V is now the official titleholder for many records. He breaks many of those records already, such as

- BTS V's solo track "Scenery" breaks the record for fastest song to hit 100 million streams on Soundcloud, in just over 14 days. This is a record breaking nine times in a row, reaching from 20 million to 100 million streams in the shortest period of time.

- “Scenery” had also accumulated the most streams in a 24-hour period after listing a total of eleven million streams within one day.

- It accumulated over 372,000 likes on the site within the 24 hours it was posted. This made V’s track the now title-holder of the most liked song in SoundCloud for the first 24 hours. [1]

English isn't my first language, so please excuse any mistakes. Samekizofu (talk) 07:24, 7 May 2019 (UTC)

@Samekizofu: Please read WP:BADCHARTS. Those pages shouldn't have them either, especially the fact about the likes. I've removed it from Jimin's page and will bring it up with the others. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 01:59, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
@DanielleTH: Okay I saw that it's already gone on Jimin's page. But why Ariana and Khalid still the same tho? I hope they are removed too if these information shouldn't provide like you said. Thank you Samekizofu (talk) 10:29, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@Samekizofu: I'm not a regular editor on those pages so I'm less comfortable deleting information without discussing it with regular editors. I was reviewing some FAs and it looks like major streaming records are acceptable, so I think it breaking the streaming record can be added back, albeit with wording that doesn't sound like an ad for V. The "likes" section feels fancrufty to me. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 15:50, 10 May 2019 (UTC)
@DanielleTH: I've added the breaking streaming records and reference. Hope the grammar, wording and everything is okay to you. Thank you so much Samekizofu (talk) 19:27, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
@Samekizofu: Kept the info the same but broke it up into smaller sentences. Is the source for all this information via the Korean source for the favorable reviews? Thank you very much for your help and willingness to improve the page! DanielleTH (Say hi!) 02:25, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
@DanielleTH: "Furthermore, highly credible media agencies worldwide such as CNN, Billboard, Teen Vogue (world-class news outlets of America), Metro (Spain), NME (England), national broadcast station of France, etc., and more than 120 other foreign media agencies also did not hesitate to praise "Scenery" immediately upon its release. NME - UK's leading music magazine which owns the largest independent music site in the world accessed by more than 700 million users every month - posted an article on the release of V's self-composed song. In particular, that a magazine specializing in music which is as famous as the Rolling Stones, Pitchfork (USA), reported on a self-composed song of a member, not the whole group, is extremely rare and exerted a powerful influence." from an english news article.[2] Can we add this info to the V's page as well? Thank youSamekizofu (talk) 05:57, 14 May 2019 (UTC)
@Samekizofu: That's a good start but it reads like someone promoting V instead of just discussing what occurred. The "120 outlets" thing is a bit vague and some of those publications are listed as unreliable per WP:KO/RS. I think mentioning one major publication by name, linking it so people can learn more about it if they like, and quoting it (with the publication and author credited) may be a good idea.
Also, it's Wikipedia policy to discuss major changes made to the page on the scale that you wrote (which is fine! be bold) but I wanted to notify some other editors to see if they had thoughts on the changes: Ukiss2ne14lyfe, Alexanderlee, Shanella12345, and Abdotorg, since I've noticed you've all made significant changes to the page recently, any thoughts on the new impact and influence section? DanielleTH (Say hi!) 03:05, 16 May 2019 (UTC)
@DanielleTH: To dear editors, I hope all the info I added on the impact and influence section will be acceptable, as well as about the favorable reviews for Scenery, please consider as appropriate from the reference I provided above.
I looked at it and all of that was fancruft. No one cares about that kind of stuff except his fans, and this is not a fan board so it should not be included. I think if worked in better some of it could be mentioned, but not whole paragraphs on it. Jungkook's page mentions his sold out downy, although his is more mentioned due to the raise in stocks it caused.Ukiss2ne14lyfe (talk) 15:33, 20 May 2019 (UTC)
Anyway, from my point of view about 120 foreign media agencies, I think it's still considered a great achievement whether they're from the highly credible media agencies or just normal one, since V is a Korean artist with his song in Korean lyrics and like the news stated "just a member, not the whole group, is extremely rare and exerted a powerful influence". In conclusion I think the whole messages are appropriate enough to add to this page. "Furthermore, highly credible media agencies worldwide such as CNN, Billboard, Teen Vogue (world-class news outlets of America), Metro (Spain), NME (England), national broadcast station of France, etc., and more than 120 other foreign media agencies also did not hesitate to praise "Scenery" immediately upon its release. In particular, that a magazine specializing in music which is as famous as the Rolling Stones, Pitchfork (USA), reported on a self-composed song of a member, not the whole group, is extremely rare and exerted a powerful influence." Please kindly reconsider and approve as it deems appropriate.
Apologize for my bad English. T_T thank you so much Samekizofu (talk) 05:16, 16 May 2019 (UTC)

Writing Credits

Drmies, how exactly is having a section on songwriting credits excessive for an article about a musician? I'm fairly certain an article claiming the topic is a songwriter should have a cited section including his songwriting credits. Why put something into prose when it's easier for the information to be communicated via a table? Plus, including that in a Discography page is standard on Wikipedia. See Taylor Swift discography, as well as the whole category Category:Lists of songs by songwriters and even List of songs written by J-Hope, another BTS member whose songwriting list is an FA. Tagging some other frequent page editors: Ashleyyoursmile, Explicit, Carlobunnie, Alexanderlee. DanielleTH (Say hi!) 16:51, 14 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the tag. I agree with you. Personally, if I went to an article that claimed someone was a songwriter, I would expect to see a list of songs written by the individual, whether that be on the main article or a separate related one like their discography article of list of songs written by them. Alex (talk) 17:04, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
I concur. He's listed as an actor so his acting roles are noted. He's listed as a song writer therefore songs he's penned or had a hand in pending should also be listed. When the list grows larger warranting it's own article then one will be created for it but for the time being it's fine here. I'm not sure where this sudden problem with this information being listed in his article specifically has come from all of a sudden. And if it's a problem with it being listed across any articles that include similar information and not just his then you should talk it to the relevant talk page(s) before removing it at your leisure. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 17:15, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
I have the same opinion as everyone else here. A songwriter should have the songs composed by him listed. --Ashleyyoursmile (talk) 17:37, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
I have reverted the edit. This is on the same wavelength as Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea#RfC: Including concerts/tours in articles about Korean musicians and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Korea/Popular culture#RfC: Including how work has been received by experts and the public in articles about Korean musicians. I would really like to see Drmies's policy-based justification for removing this content despite consensus and practice showing the opposite. ƏXPLICIT 00:13, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
"Songwriter" is a rather random moniker; you can list anyone as almost anything and use that to justify lists full of tableporn. He's also listed as a "record producer", a rather overblown term for someone who co-produced a couple of his own band's songs. We're talking about less than a dozen songs, with mostly primary sourcing--total run of the mill. And the article itself has next to nothing to say about this supposed song-writing quality. I think it's about time that convention here counts for something. You want to know what a songwriter is, and what one of those articles looks like? Leonard Cohen. And there's a category, Category:Songs written by Leonard Cohen, for songs that are independently notable, and that notability includes the writing of the song. What we have here--there is no evidence in the text that any of his songwriting credits are that important. V is not Taylor Swift. Instead, we have yet another item to add to the template for K-pop artists, another item that survives because the fans think that primary sourcing and fan portals suffices. Drmies (talk) 03:06, 15 March 2020 (UTC)
So you can't cite a single policy or guideline to back up your argument while contradicting established practice, have deferred to your typical "but K-pop fans" ad hominem, and the best thing you can come up with is your own personal definition of what constitutes a songwriter to justify your removal of encyclopedic content? What a concrete foundation. ƏXPLICIT 04:01, 15 March 2020 (UTC)

Record producer

He only co-produced one song in 2017 (4 o'clock). He isn't credited as a producer on his solo songs on Souncloud (I can't find credits for Sweet Night, but even if he produced it, thats only two songs). His bandmate Jungkook co-produced four songs (six counting alternative versions) but that is not considered enough for record producer to be listed as an occupation. Shouldn't we apply the same standard here? -- Ivanacccp (talk) 17:45, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

I agree it's not enough. He's most known for being a singer, not a producer like Yoongi, so the title honestly isn't applicable. About "Sweet Night OST Itaewon Class"

I have noticed that, on the awards chart "Apan Star Awards 2020" was mentioned. I am suggesting to add "Sweet Night has won the Popularity Award for the Best OST in Apan Star Awards 2020" - along with "In 2020, V participated in a song titled "Sweet Night" for the soundtrack of the JTBC drama Itaewon Class which was released on March 13, 2020. Artist's description: actor

  • Please correct the introductory description for who V is from "singer and song-writer" to "singer, song-writer and actor". The actor part has been incorrectly removed.:
  • V(Kim Taehyung) has appeared as one of the supporting actors in the TV show Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth which is even explained in his career explanation:
  • Many K-pop artist that have had acting debuts, even if they have had one role, have "actor or actress" in their Wikipedia explanation. For example, Jisoo(from BlackPink) who has one major acting role has "singer and actress" as her description which is accurate and makes sense. Moreover, Harry Styles who has had only one major acting role has a Wikipedia explanation as "an English singer, songwriter, and actor". How often you act does not define whether you are an actor or not. Unlike being labelled as a producer where frequent production of music is required. Not having acted for 5 years does not make you "not an actor anymore" and is inaccurate to remove it from the artist introductory paragraph. There is further reference and support of this claim from BTS V's Rolling Stones Interview. In the interview it is stated by the artist himself that "acting is something he is looking forward to do" again when is he around 28/once his BTS schedule is not as tight. So, removing the "actor" when introducing the artist would be inaccurate and careless, as it is something he has done in the past and will continue to do so in the future.:

Prêmio Annual K4US' 2022 awards with 'Christmas Tree' and 'In the SOOP: Friendcation'

Hello,

The artist award from "Prêmio Annual K4US' 2022 awards with 'Christmas Tree' and 'In the SOOP: Friendcation'" just been removed today. I don't see the reason why it has been removed when it was officially internationally recognized. Please put the awards back on the list. Unless there is an issue where fans didn't know about. If there was, please explain the reason. Also please put the proper name of the artist, V is his stage name not his full name, V - Kim Taehyung (singer) should be on headline.

Thank you so much. HaruAdam (talk) 17:17, 5 April 2023 (UTC)

Please define what you mean by "officially internationally recognized". But to answer your question regarding the removals, please see this discussion for further information. The general rule of thumb is that an award should meet WP:NOTABILITY requirements in order to be added (this does not equate to news of it being spread on social media via fan accounts). This one was not and so I removed all instances of it myself. If you see it anywhere else on WP, let us know or go ahead and remove it yourself. Taehyung was unveiled as the Global Brand Ambassador for Sim Invest, a division of an Indonesian multi-billion dollar conglomerate. He is the chosen one for their campaign to introduce investment tools to youth markets. As the face of their current campaign, there are several Sim Invest commercials featuring Taehyung on YouTube. Sim Invest also has a presence on Instagram. It’s an important career move and should be included among his accomplishments and social impact. He was selected for this role because of his incredible meteoric rise as a top influencer with the highest Instagram engagement rate and highest sponsored post value in the world. He is currently the first and only artist in the world to have over 10M likes on every Instagram post. He also broke the platform’s previous records for every 10M increments of followers after his initial Guinness world records for the fastest 1M and 10M followers. Another significant proof of Taehyung’s impact was published in American pop culture magazine J-14. He was named on the Certified List of the Generation Z’s ‘It Boys’ and the interesting thing is Taehyung is a millennial, yet has incredible influence on Gen-Z. The photo of the artist appears to have been run through an "HD-ify" filter which utilizes AI technology to "clarify" a photo. As a result, his features have been modified. It's most noticeable with his eye, where the shape has been changed significantly. I would like to suggest the use of a different photo which was not subject to such modification. The use of HD filters is especially problematic when used on non-white people, as the technology was trained on white faces and will modify non-white traits. 2601:19C:4A0A:2992:C3E:EBFD:827D:8A26 (talk) 23:41, 9 September 2023 (UTC)
