Does Rosalina REALLY need her own article?
[edit]She's honestly not important to the overall Mario franchise. She only appears in Mario Galaxy and Mario Kart, but nowhere else. Is it really significant for her to have her own wikipedia article when other characters who had more involvement in the general Marioverse like Petey Piranha are relegated to the List of Mario series Characters? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.172.244.58 (talk) 21:37, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Move Rosalina back to the List of Mario characters list.
[edit]She doesn't do anything of true significance in Mario Galaxy 1, and she does even less in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and both Mario Karts. She doesn't deserve her own page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.212.25.102 (talk) 17:39, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Her name is actually Princess Rosalina.
[edit]Her name is actually Princess Rosalina, to be exact.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2a02:c7f:242e:4800:184a:c4aa:b985:712a (talk • contribs) 30th September 2021 (UTC)
- Do you have a source? --ThomasO1989 (talk) 23:04, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
Has it ever been confirmed by official Japanese sources that Rosalina is a princess? To my knowledge only English-speaking sources, specifically the PRIMA Official Game Guide for Super Mario Galaxy 2 and the American websites for Mario Kart 8 and Super Mario 3D All-Stars, have called her a princess so far. I should also point out that the UK site for 3D All-Stars doesn’t name her Princess Rosalina either, seems like it is just Nintendo of America who do all this.--194.71.19.190 (talk) 06:44, 30 September 2021 (UTC)
Other known sources that supports the "princess status" include the Super Mario Official Sticker Book (page 43 shows the text "Princess Power Trio!", and Rosalina, Peach, and Daisy), the time Rosalina's voice actress called her one on her own website, the 2014 Mario Kart 8 Direct presentation (it was the Baby version to be more specific), and the 3DS app Swapdoodle where there is a purchasable Nintendo lesson pack called "Super Mario Princesses and Pals", which features lessons for drawing several Mario characters. When taking a Rosalina lesson, Nikki stated that she's a "mysterious girl who travels through space". But in a Daisy lesson, when completed, Nikki will say "Daisy is done! Draw her with Rosalina and Peach for a fun princess party! ☆".
Of course there are counter-arguments here; the SM Official Sticker Book is an "officially Nintendo-licensed" book published by Random House, so just like with PRIMA, there are some errors or inaccuracies. Rosalina's VA calling her one was not in the website's current revision (also no offense to the voice actress but I doubt she would know any more than we do at the moment), the 2014 MK8 Direct was from Nintendo of America, and the Swapdoodle lessons are arguably not quite explicit in categorizing Rosalina as a princess plus I dunno if that royalty part is specifically mentioned or not in the JP version.
The way I see it this is another issue of regional depictions. To my knowledge, Nintendo of Japan usually if not always refer Rosalina as a "Mysterious Woman" or something along those lines, and has never called her a princess or being of royalty within or outside the games. I dunno about Nintendo of Europe but its clearly Nintendo of America who considered her a princess from the start, reconfirming this in subsequent material.
In fairness though the "mysterious woman" title doesn't necessarily contradict referrals that she could be a princess, and it does seem like NoJ have no problem with allowing western media to referring Rosalina as one, you think they would have interfered a long time ago if so. In anycase until NoJ confirms or deconfirms any potential royal status I do think this article should refrain from the princess title.158.174.220.215 (talk) 15:20, 14 October 2022 (UTC)

Rosalina (Mario) → Rosalina (Nintendo) – We don't have Jill Biden's article at Jill Biden (Joe Biden), so how does this article get to be marked with a male she is associated with?? Georgia guy (talk) 22:56, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- Support both Bowser and Pauline use Nintendo over Mario though I don’t see the Jill Biden example as apt since Mario in this case is referring to the Mario franchise not the character of the same name.--65.92.163.98 (talk) 23:36, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
Weak Support...OPPOSE (see below): It would make sense for it to match with other Mario-franchise characters like Toad (Nintendo) and Pauline (Nintendo). Also, while I too am a feminist, the reason "Mario" is in the title is because it's the name of the franchise from which Rosalina originates (not because it's the name of an associated character). Nonetheless, it should probably be consistent with those other pages. Paintspot Infez (talk) 23:46, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- Depending on how this goes there may be a case for considering a move request of Link (The Legend of Zelda) to Link (Nintendo).--65.92.163.98 (talk) 23:50, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
- ...update: OPPOSE - Actually, thinking about it, it seems Toad (Nintendo) and Pauline (Nintendo) are exceptions. It looks like the reason they're at those titles is because those two are also prominent in spinoff franchises. Toad is prominent in the Captain Toad spinoff franchise, and Pauline is the then-unnamed lady in the first Donkey Kong. That's probably why. If Bowser wasn't the primary topic for "Bowser (character)", it would probably be at "Bowser (Mario)". Thus, I've changed my vote to Oppose. @Ortizesp, RicardoNixon97, and Iffy: Thoughts? - Support to match other Nintendo characters from the Mario franchise--RicardoNixon97 (talk) 12:36, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- Support per WP:CONSISTENT, but if someone is primarily notable for being associated with a man, we should use that association as a disambiguator if necessary; and we should definitely not use an obscure version of that name (or some other violation of WP:CRITERIA) to get around the disambiguation problem. Iffy★Chat -- 13:51, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Iffy, can you name an example of a page you would have said oppose to for that very reason?? You supported this move so it's not an example, but can you name a RM that you would have said oppose to for the very reason you wrote?? Georgia guy (talk) 14:37, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- If the RM currently at Talk:Carrie Symonds were to propose either Carrie Symonds-Johnson or Carrie Johnson (activist), I'd oppose those titles at that RM. Iffy★Chat -- 15:35, 4 June 2021 (UTC)

- Oppose The entire nomination comment is misleading and inaccurate. We are not disambiguating based off of Mario (the character) we disambiguating based off of the Mario franchise, which happens to be named after the character (hence why it is in italics). Also WP:NCVGDAB#7 states: For characters: Disambiguate by appending the series or individual game title in parentheses after the character's name (e.g., Lulu (Final Fantasy) and Cid (Final Fantasy X)).. It makes no mention of using the video game company to disambiguate. This would also no consistent with character articles as a whole which tend to follow WP:NCVGDAB#7. Spy-cicle💥 Talk? 15:26, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- Oppose per Spy-cicle. If you look at articles in the Category:Nintendo characters category tree, you'll see that the examples that people are advocating for consistency with (Toad (Nintendo) and Pauline (Nintendo)) are actually outliers. The majority of such articles use the name of the franchise to disambiguate, per the guideline cited by Spy-cicle. e.g. Brock (Pokémon), Lucina (Fire Emblem), Ridley (Metroid). I will concede that this form of disambiguation looks a little bit awkward when the franchise is named for a character, but there is still precedent for doing this, e.g.: Tails (Sonic the Hedgehog). But I'd be open to changing the disambiguator to something like (Mario franchise) if we think the gain in naturalness is worth the cost in conciseness. Colin M (talk) 03:22, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Rosalina → Rosalina (disambiguation) The only explination is that the disambiguation was made before she followed WP:N, because there’s NO WAY that the nickname is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, and none of the other stuff are more famous. 109.78.145.240 (talk) 20:07, 26 May 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose "Rosalina" is a common given name; the Mario topic is prominent but not enough to be primary. It does appear to be the primary topic for Princess Rosalina instead however. -- 64.229.90.172 (talk) 23:54, 28 May 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, alternatively, Princess Rosalina could be a good WP:NATDAB option for the Nintendo character. Sergecross73 msg me 02:22, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose, no indication that this video game character is notable enough for a primary topic. (Even Mario is a stretch, IMO.) 162 etc. (talk) 02:48, 29 May 2023 (UTC)
- https://wikinav.toolforge.org/?language=en&title=Rosalina indicates 302 views of Rosalina, and 127 outgoing views of the character (~42%), and this does not typically indicate WP:PTOPIC status. I think we need a much stronger rationale to short-circuit a generic name to a specific fictional character, that could well not only not be benefitting the average English reader's navigation, but actually astonish a fair few of them (and I also think this is likely to be happening to Mario and Luigi). --Joy (talk) 08:33, 29 May 2023 (UTC)

- Oppose. No, definitely not primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:25, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

Rosalina does not need her own article.
[edit]If Bowser Junior and Diddy Kong can't keep their Wikipedia articles than Rosalina should not have hers remain when she's less important overall than both of them. 98.109.57.211 (talk) 20:47, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- This is silly. Stop trying to take down other articles because you are unable to make articles for other characters. It's just disruptive whining. - Cukie Gherkin (talk) 20:59, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- Listen, I understand that these are liked characters and let it be known that as soon as we have the necessary reception for either character such as Rosalina here, we'll be sure to recreate their articles. But as it stands, we cannot create the articles for them right now as their is not a lot of reported commentary of the characters. And going to other articles that indeed have said commentary and claiming they should remain on the website does nothing to help your cause for these characters. It's just unnecessary to waste your energy on this. That is all. CaptainGalaxy 21:12, 13 May 2024 (UTC)

Rosalina (Mario) → Princess Rosalina – Could work per WP:NATDAB, just like Princess Peach and Princess Daisy. 🍕Boneless Pizza!🍕 (🔔) 13:34, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Weak oppose. Call me a stickler here, but I don't know of any official Nintendo media that titles the character with the "Princess" word. It's more like a {{R from erroneous name}} than anything due to the fact that "Princess Peach" and "Princess Daisy" can be considered accurate per Nintendo sources. Steel1943 (talk) 16:02, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- ...Hmm. Just noticed that #Her name is actually Princess Rosalina. seems to echo my concern. Steel1943 (talk) 17:22, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose move. She is never once referred to as a princess within official media, and secondary sources tend to refer to her as "Rosalina" alone. O.N.R. (talk) 18:45, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose, further to Steel1943 and O.N.R.'s comments a Google search for
"Princess Rosalina" Mario -Wikipedia
yields 1.03 million results, while a search for"Rosalina" Mario -Wikipedia
yields 13.3 million results (note: I can't link to these search results as they are not displaying properly in the preview). Based on these results alone, it appears as though the "Princess" title is not used by the majority of sources. Adam Black talk • contributions 18:48, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. Unlike Peach and Daisy, which frequently uses the Princess descriptor, Rosalina's uses of it, if at all, are few and far between. This clearly isn't a common name nor her most notable designator, and I feel the current title more than suffices. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 21:06, 18 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose - Insufficient usage, and not officially confirmed. Fieari (talk) 00:31, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose per above. Unlike Daisy or Peach, she is very rarely called the princess title within official media and definitely not in secondary sources, which simply refer to her as "Rosalina".
