Proposed removal of YouPorn statistic

[edit]

Recently, several IP editors (178.39.205.121, 91.209.169.199, and 178.39.205.121) have proposed that the following sentence be removed from the article:

Porn website YouPorn reported that while their overall traffic decreased by 13.57% during the pro–am tournament, searches for "Desiigner" and "Pokimane" increased by 721% and 70%, respectively.[1]

I've declined the proposed removal under pending changes review because the sentence is properly sourced (since Game Revolution is considered a reliable source on WP:VG/S). Please discuss the change here. If there is a consensus to remove or change the text, please submit the edit again. Thanks. — Newslinger talk 05:12, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Website

[edit]

Can the Pokishop https://pokishop.com be regarded as a valid website? or is it too vague to be on the Wikipedia. Delta fiver (talk) (UTC) 06:02, 10 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 6 May 2020 for Pokimane

[edit]

I am Pokimane's manager and would like to have this removed completely as it does not apply to Pokimane's career. You can reach me at [email redacted by JTP (talkcontribs)] if necessary.

Recent Controversy

[edit]

Are we not gonna mention Pokimane helped remove ItsAGundam future sponsorship — Preceding unsigned comment added by Blueshocker (talkcontribs) 04:54, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Unless the controversies being mentioned has adverse effects on her career, they are not mentioned, as well as it on many cases would violate WP:BLP. Delta fiver (talk) (UTC) 07:43, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Add controversy subsection

[edit]

At that case, can I add that subsection in this article with cited sources, both from here and here, which she addressed from her overdue apology video on YouTube involving her recent controversy (apparently that she was involved with a boyfriend)? She also said that she's going to take a break for that controversial reason. --Allen (talk / ctrb) 05:10, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Adding those articles for a controversy section really does no justice to controversy sections in articles as regarding the boyfriend thing, all she did was mention that she wants to keep her personal life and relationships private, which is something she has expressed on many occasions of her career. The break also involves little to no controversy as she mentioned taking a break a while back due to feeling burnout as a result of streaming nonstop for seven years right out of university. This information really doesn't amount to anything significant in her career as many other streamers keep their lives private and also take breaks from time to time, I guess this information just proves WP:FART. Delta fiver (talk) (UTC) 08:16, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
None of those insignificant stuff are encyclopedic content, WP:NOTEVERYTHING and are violation of WP:BLP and I agree with Delta fiver's comments. Panda619 (talk) 11:22, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Panda619Delta fiver I see nothing in WP:NOTEVERYTHING that is a valid reason to not include it as long as it's properly sourced. Also how would it be a violation of WP:BLP if it's properly sourced? Neither of these pages say anything about not including controversies as long as they are properly sourced. Allen2 provided citations so I don't see the issue here. I for one believe that not including all the controversies surrounding someone as controversial as her as long as they're properly sourced is a violation of WP:NPOV. I think she born near Algeria

[edit]

oujda i guess.... - Samiwikia

She had already conveyed on many occasions, that she was born in Morocco, I think that's good enough. Delta fiver (talk) (UTC) 17:03, 20 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

YT stats

[edit]

I think the article would be more fleshed out if the YT stats were put back up again or put up LegioV (talk) 23:21, 16 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moroccan-Canadian nationality

[edit]

@Delta fiver: the New York Times has described her as Canadian-Moroccan [1]; there's also this Wired interview [2] which likely touches on her roots, but to which I don't have access. Other articles in reliable sources do not seem to describe her nationality. She has a Draw my Life video where she states that she was born in Morocco, and her DNA test came back with a 85% match to North African and Arabian DNAs (also accessible on YouTube). I think that the two last sources, while self-published, are in line with WP:ABOUTSELF. Given that there's no reasonable doubt as to the authenticity of the claim, and considering the WP:V legitimate concern satisfied, I am reinstating the mention that she's Moroccan-Canadian with the NYT ref. Pilaz (talk) 09:57, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Pilaz: I see it more like they are specifying that she is a Canadian of Moroccan descent. However, I do believe both countries allow for dual citizenship so it's probably safer to include both in the lead (or rewrite as Canadian of Moroccan descent). — BriefEdits (talk) 16:16, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • I understand where this concern is coming from (having met many [insert claimed nationality] who were only descendants and did not actually have nationality from the country they claimed to be from), but we simply can't delete the mention "Moroccan" when she is described by RS as "Canadian-Moroccan". There has to be a reasonable doubt that's covered by a reliable source, and I don't believe there currently is one. Pilaz (talk) 21:07, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      • Oh yeah, I'm in favor of keeping it "Moroccan-Canadian". Just voicing my opinion on the matter for posterity. In hindsight, "Canadian of Moroccan descent" would just make it more confusing. — BriefEdits (talk) 21:28, 25 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Per the Wikipedia guideline WP:ELMIN, external links must be minimized to one official link whenever possible. Strugglehouse, you have reverted my removal of Pokimane's secondary channels without providing an explanation: is there one?

Removing the secondary channels is necessary because Wikipedia is not a directory Wikipedia is not a repository. Her other channels are already linked in her primary YouTube channel anyway. Pilaz (talk) 22:12, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Pilaz Many other pages of YouTubers with multiple channels will list them all (See Smosh, Rhett & Link, Wilbur Soot, TommyInnit, Jarvis Johnson (YouTuber), Technoblade, PewDiePie, MrBeast, and many more). Template:Infobox YouTube personality shows channel_name, channel_name2, channel_name3, channel_url, channel_url2, channel_url3, channel_direct_url, channel_direct_url2, channel_direct_url3, channel_display_name, channel_display_name2, channel_display_name3, and channels, as well as examples of more than one channel being listed. It also shows channel_website used to display a channels personal website (you removed Anys' merchandise store; I'm not sure if that's covered by "personal website", but channel links should be fine). Strugglehouse (talk) 22:39, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am going through all of the channels since some people have been compulsively adding every single channel remotely connected to internet personalities, and I appreciate you linking those extra channels.
The blame lies neither on you nor on other editors, but primarily on Template:Infobox YouTube personality which has allowed this proliferation to go unchecked. I assume nobody ever heard of WP:ELMIN, so I've alerted the corresponding WikiProject before I remove the multiple channels. If you'd like to help in this endeavor, feel free to delete extra YouTube channels beyond the main one you encounter, leaving WP:ELMIN in your edit summary. Thank you! Pilaz (talk) 22:44, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Strugglehouse, update: I've cleared all the secondary channel links from the very top YouTubers and Twitch streamers, and left a message on Talk:Rhett & Link to decide what to keep. Please let me know if you find more. Cheers, Pilaz (talk) 03:06, 30 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Life -> Early Life

[edit]

The personal life section simply states what I feel would be a better fit for an early life section in front of the career section. It literally is written as if it is an early life section, so I’m not sure why it is called “personal life.” SpaiceyWarrior (talk) 17:06, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
