Joining the two Wikipedia pages for Pokémon episodes
[edit]Let the list of episodes for Pokémon be in a single page rather than two pages Gershon Jonish (talk) 04:52, 29 January 2019 (UTC)
I agree with this notion Yeungkahchun (talk) 18:03, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I disagree. Seasons 1-13 are within a separate continuity. Season 14 begins the rebooted continuity. We see the evidence of this due to the age of Ash being reset back to 10 at the beginning of season 14. Artemaeus Creed (talk) 18:47, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hasn't Ash always been 10 years old? It's not like he turned 11 prior to Unova and then reset back to 10 at season 14. Also I wouldn't really call it a 'rebooted continuity' as the series wasn't 'rebooted' in a reboot sense, pre-season 14 references are made post season 14. List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 14–current) → List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 14–present) – Proper grammar, and every other list of this nature says "present" instead of "current" Blubabluba9990 (talk) (contribs) 18:17, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Page over parsing limit
[edit]This page is way beyond its parsing limit and is in need of splitting just like its sister page List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 1–12).
- here are some suggested splits:
- maximum parse splits:
- - List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 1–12) shortened to seasons 1-8 (max parse)
- - a brand new pokemon episodes list page covering seasons 9-16 (max parse)
- - List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 13–present) moved to cover season 17 onwards (exceeds parsing limits, however season 25 table can be written instead of transcribed. will require splitting if the series continues past season 25).
- all pages with fully parsed splits (+ future proofing):
- - List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 1–12) shortened to seasons 1-7 (fully parsed + headroom)
- - a brand new pokemon episodes list page covering seasons 8-14 (fully parsed + headroom)
- - List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 13–present) moved to cover season 15-21 (max parse)
- - another new pokemon episodes list page covering season 22 onwards (fully parsed)
- I say write all of the seasons rather than transclude them.--Launchballer 11:58, 12 November 2022 (UTC)
- Tested just now in my sandbox: Substituting instead of transcluding does drop the post-expand include size dramatically (1,959,648 of 2,097,152 bytes 🡆 1,340,558 of 2,097,152 bytes). But that has downsides and we may find ourselves in the same situation four or five seasons down the line. Regards, FuwaHitsuji (talk) 14:45, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- I support splitting the pages. Seasons 1-9, 10-19, 20-present makes the most sense, story-wise. Pallettown (talk) 20:00, 7 May 2023 (UTC)
- I would like to make a proposition - I will not pretend to have experience when it comes to this area, however given the number of episodes in each proposed page, I have come up with this concept. Its aim is to group together episodes taking place within the same generation, preventing any collection of consecutive seasons with the same primary cast from being split between multiple pages (for example, Seasons 6-9 feature the primary cast of Ash Ketchum, Brock, May and Max).
- - Split List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 1–13) into 1-5 (Kanto, Orange Islands and Johto, aka Gens 1 and 2, 276 episodes) and 6-13 (Hoenn, Battle Frontier and Sinnoh, aka Gens 3 and 4, 383 episodes)
- - Split List of Pokémon episodes (seasons 14–present) into 14-19 (Unova, Decolore Islands and Kalos, aka Gens 5-6, 282 episodes), 20-25 (Alola and Journeys, aka Gens 7-8, 293 episodes) and 26-present (Horizons, aka Gen 9, 63 episodes - in this season, Liko has taken Ash's role of primary protagonist, and this separation would also act as future-proofing)
- I understand that 5 pages might be considered to be too many - if you wish to have fewer pages, then the best option for this concept with 4 total pages would be Seasons 1-9 (468 episodes, Gens 1-3), 10-16 (333 episodes, Gens 4-5), 17-25 (433 episodes, Gens 6-8) and 26-present (same as 5-page proposal).
- I hope this helps resolve the parsing limit issue. A Doctor Who (talk) 23:26, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
I weakly support splitting based on your second suggestion (groups of 7). Needing four separate articles would be unfortunate, but perhaps unsurprising for a series pushing past 1200 episodes. I made some rough calculations on episode counts (including specials):
- Seasons 1-7: 368 episodes
- Seasons 8-14: 344 episodes
- Seasons 15-21: 337 episodes
- Seasons 22-present: 216 episodes (ongoing)
Still a lot, but a more reasonable length. Not transcluding may be an option, but I believe we'd still be limited to around 15 seasons per page before hitting the limit, and we'd likely have a third page in a few years. It may also be less neat for editing. Although we would likely need a fifth page, starting around season 29. That's not too far off either.. Fuwa (she/her)✉️ 15:13, 8 May 2023 (UTC)
- I'm curious what others think: do we really need a page consolidating seasons? The shortest (completed) season, Diamond and Pearl: Sinnoh League Victors, is only 36 episodes yet still makes for a decently long page. Even the smallest proposed split would be a sizeable ~350 episodes per page. Something to consider, at least. Regards, Fuwa (she/her)✉️ 09:49, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- I didn't even know we had these episode pages till now. I don't think we actually even need these, given the Season articles cover all of these episodes individually in greater depth and detail while also covering out of universe information. I feel some sort of article or something should be made or utilized in order to act as a directory to the individual season's given episodes, but I feel the current method is just generally unsustainable and better covered already by pre-existing articles. I'd agree with just getting rid of these two lists outright. Has one ever considered Magneton? Pokelego999 (talk) 00:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
