Sudden content removal by User:ItsKesha

Hi everyone. I just want to let it known that User:ItsKesha has removed approximately 30,000 bytes of content from this article in the last two weeks alone, all the while without adding a single byte of content. How is this possible, and shouldn't this user be reprimanded for this? Paulinho28 (talk) 11:30, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

There's nothing wrong with removing content, per se. In fact, editing down long articles is often welcomed and we expect users to be WP:BOLD when editing. Plus, we don't "reprimand" users. Administrative actions against editors are preventative, not punitive.
That said, we should follow the WP:BRD cycle and discuss edits we don't agree with. Paulinho28, Which specific edits do you have issues with, and how could they be better? Ytoyoda (talk) 11:48, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
I take a strong issue with the awards section. How come there are now only 9 individual awards listed? ItsKesha mentions in the comments for his edits that he "was removing non-key awards". My question is: Who decided which awards are "non-key" and should be left out, especially considering that this section has included for a long time all the awards won by Messi? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulinho28 (talkcontribs) 12:10, 26 August 2021 (UTC)
I think the complicating issue is that we have List of career achievements by Lionel Messi that can capture anything that's non-major so we do need to come to a consensus on what is important. I think this edit is fine, since it's media or IFFHS awards. There's room for debate on this one that removes tournament awards. From that edit, I'd lean towards restoring the Copa America awards, but removing the UEFA awards, since Balon d'Or is arguably more prestigious. Ytoyoda (talk) 12:32, 26 August 2021 (UTC)

euros and pounds?

why was the auction amount (for his shoes) given in pounds, when it was on the continent?--142.163.194.161 (talk) 19:50, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

Did you look at the source? What currency is the amount given in there? – PeeJay 20:00, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
Also, it looks like the sale was conducted by a British auction house, so the sale figure likely came from a British press release. Ytoyoda (talk) 16:53, 19 October 2021 (UTC)

A small correction under "career statistics"

Just a quick one it says under "total" for Barcelona B team 32 games but it is 22 games and 6 goals and not 11 so exclude the Barca C team i think.

Adding Champion League goals to PSG totals in the infobox

Goals at PSG?

Messi has now had 4 starts and scored 1 goal for PSG. Why is this not updated as it’s been over 2 days? TruthGiant284 (talk) 23:15, 29 September 2021 (UTC)

You’ll see that his appearances and goals are up to date as of September 28th. The infobox does not show his Champions League goal for PSG because it only shows domestic league stats. Ytoyoda (talk) 03:07, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Now that Messi fullfiled Cruyff's prediction back in 2012 when he had two ballons d'or, I thought this quote could be included beside the "Honours/Individual" section or under current season at PSG, to enhance his career timeline and how he came to grow as a player, reaching an expected level of his potential by such a football icon:

"Messi will be the player with the most Ballons d'Or in history. He will win five, six or seven." — Johan Cruyff in 2012 predicting Messi to reach a record seventh Ballon d'Or.

Quotes are quotes, obviously not awards. Knew it. But it might be used "beside" awards in an article about a player to emphasize how he fullfiled such prediction based on his potential in 2012. But yes, just like his Ballon d'Or picture in the same section, pics are not awards too, are they? No need to establish anything. Thanks for your suggestion. There has been a debate about Ronaldo ( Talk:Cristiano Ronaldo ), which has now spilled over to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Player awarded medal without playing, in which I have mentioned the Messi article in regard to trophies versus appearances debate. When speaking about the early life of Messi it is mentioned that he wasn't signed by River Plate because they couldn't afford his medical treatment. This is a mistake, messi clarified in an interview that he was going to be signed but Newell's rejected his transfer to an argentine club. His full statement is in the Spanish version of this article, I can translate it if needed

leaving here a full translation to english of that statement

I was at Newell's and went on trial at River's school in Rosario. One of the boys told me to go and I did so. After that I was taken to Buenos Aires. They were the class of 85, all of them older than me. I played 15 to 20 minutes. They told me to come back in 10 days with those of my age. I came back and score 3 or 4 goals and they told me I had to say, that I had to take transfer documents to them. They were going to pay my treatment. Newell's never supported me in that aspect, never payed for it, mi old woman (his mother) complained about it and it was difficult at the time.My dad was making a big effort to pay for the treatment. At River they asked me to take the documents there and when I went for them to Newell's they told me to fuck off. We fought and fought, but they never gave them to me. After that the thing with Barcelona happened. MesopotamicMark (talk) 03:29, 23 May 2022 (UTC)

Not done: So, this was a bit of a unique situation. The YouTube video appears to be unavailable and even if it were I would surmise using it as justification for adjusting the reason would be in violation of WP:ABOUTSELF as it involves a claim regarding a party that isn't the subject. Nor could we use the Spanish version of the article as evidence to this per WP:CIRCULAR. However, upon review of the relevant sentence, I saw that it made the claim the reason River Plate declined was due to economic collapse. Neither citation for that sentence made that assertion; only one mentioned the medical treatment at all, and it simply stated that River Plate declined. So, in my capacity as an editor seperate from this request, I've refactored the relevant sentence to simply state that River Plate declined to do so.
If you would like the relevant sentence (or anywhere else in the article) to explicitly state that Newell's rejected his transfer to an argentine club you would provide reliable, independent sources to substantiate it and present the exact prose you would like inserted in a new request. Alternatively, you may edit the page yourself upon becoming extended-confirmed. Cheers! —Sirdog (talk) 07:27, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
