Background
[edit]I'm going to write a background for this game. If there is any opositions please state to why it should not be done. I'll check back on 7th to see comments. If there are none I'll start the process. --Altair Metamorf (talk) 03:20, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Hackers
[edit]Surely this article should make at least a note of one of the main things that makes Gunz stand out from other MMOs: the massive amount of hackers, about 1 or 2 every game on average. I have noticed this but I can't put it in obviously because that would be original research, but surely this must be documented somewhere else? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Supertask (talk • contribs) 18:20, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Discussions Archived
[edit]Well, it looks like someone finally got around to archiving that giant wall of text. Thank you; I was planning on doing it myself but obviously gave it up.
I would like to post a friendly reminder re-stating some basic rules for discussion here. Please keep in mind that:
- Please sign your posts using four tildes: (~~~~).
- This is the talk page for discussing improvements to the GunZ: The Duel article; It seems that some people are incapable of reading the box at the top of the page. This is not a forum for general discussion about the article's subject. This INCLUDES discussion of non-encyclopedic content such as tutorials on how to perform certain techniques. Esper rant 05:31, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Extra moves added
[edit]Many new moves has been achieved now. In the article section of Korean Style and Gameplay it listed a few styles which where butterfly, half - step, slash-shot, flash-step and also the flash step. Highly advanced gaming now has double-butterfly, triple butter-fly which has a complete stop motion of any form of defensive or offensive action and the double half step. Another move for fast climbing walls is Wall Cancel/Wall Slash which consists of jumping dashing then slashing with a sword. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NanoSpart (talk • contribs) 09:25, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
Gunz Engine
[edit]It has been speculated that the gunz engine is a heavily modified Quake 3 engine, but there is no legitimate proof of such claims outside of looking at the decompiled executable. Is it worth assuming without verification? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.144.219.48 (talk) 17:13, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- Nothing is ever acceptably assumed without verification. I've heard this, a lot, too, but unfortunately, original research isn't accepted at Wikipedia. Aaron ► 07:34, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Anti E-style Article
[edit]The article incorrectly claims that e-style is evasive or that e-stylers avoid confrontation and prolong the match. It also refers to Rifles and Machine Guns as "Spray" which is a reference to a type of shooting rather than a type of weapon.
Successful E-stylers rely on immaculate aim and the higher damage per second of automatic guns relative to melee weapon and burst weapon use. E-style has nothing to do with avoiding confrontation or prolonging the match; on the contrary E-stylers often drop opponents within seconds of line of sight being achieved. K-Style on the other hand relies on excessive maneuvering in place of shooting thus if anything K-Style is less aggressive than E-style. The only possible explanation for such a claim regarding E-style is that it does not involve melee weapon use, such that if a melee user or k-styler attempts to rush an e-styler the e-styler may backpedal/backtumble while maintaining line of sight and shooting.
The desire to categorize this as "avoiding confrontation" is obviously a result of K-styler's typical choice of short range weapons.
"Spray" refers to "Spray and Pray" a term coined in traditional FPS games in which there was no "K-style". It involves a player with poor aim holding down the button and waving the reticle all over the place. It was never meant as a justification for punishing another player, rather it was a way of identifying a less experienced and effective player. If a player kills you within seconds of you being spotted, that means he is effectively aiming as opposed to "Spraying and Praying".
Some K-stylers in Gunz have attempted to use the term to identify the use of any automatic weapons. This is really quite absurd considering that a shotgun randomly distributes pellets across a cone of fire and thus requires the least accurate aim of any weapon and yet is the most popular K-Style weapon.
In summary the ideas that e-style is evasive and that e-stylers use "spray" will be stricken from the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.252.158.32 (talk) 21:45, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Removing the cleanup tag
[edit]The article seems to be "cleaner" now than it was before, and is written in an encyclopedic tone, so I removed the cleanup tag. If anyone thinks it should stay, please explain why here. --Antoshi~! T | C 18:59, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
GunZ Revolution Added
[edit]GunZ Revolution, the new fansite for gunz has been added. Anybody removing the link will be banned. Gunz Factor is not supported by Ijji anymore - gunz revolution is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.157.254.128 (talk) 15:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- As you can see through my revert, and the comment on your talk page, users will not be banned for removing non-notable links. If you insist that ijji "supports" GunZ Revolution (a site which is closed right now), source your statements. Otherwise, Wikipedia is not an advertising service. Wikipedia is not a Soapbox. --Antoshi~! T | C 22:13, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- We DON'T need fansite links on an encyclopedic articles. GunZFactor is there because it's what the IGunZ admin use to release updates. For ijji, they have their website to release updates, and so we don't need a confirmed fansite to be mentioned. --MrJacky (talk) 18:36, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
ijji's response?

D-Style and E-Style added back
[edit]I have added D-Style and E-Style back.
After the cleanup I have done in April, there were redundant information added to those two, resulting in a removal.
Also, do NOT add styles like "Hybrid Style" and "Monk Style". These new styles created by the community do NOT fit here. What we need is general information for the average user of the terms that were already there for a few years. D-Style and E-Style were already around even before ijji GunZ was released, and is already accepted by the GunZ community. Styles like "Hybrid Style" and "Monk Style" are NOT. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MrJacky (talk • contribs) 18:31, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
- E-Style and D-Style are accepted by the GunZ community, but unless you can find a website as a source that verifies its notability (forums do not count), it shouldn't be added to the article. --Antoshi~! T | C 09:06, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
Clean up Please.
[edit]Could some one please clean the "Play Modes" section? There seem to be many errors in sentence formation and grammar. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Einherjar16 (talk • contribs) 19:10, 5 July 2008 (UTC)
Authenticity
[edit]Please note that an encyclopedic article should be authentic at all times.
Do NOT add private servers here, even if you know them. If you want to show off your knowledge of them, create your own website for it. You don't expect pirated information to appear in a Windows aricle on Wikipedia.
Also, the Sequel section has been removed due to lack of references. Whether it's a rumour or an inside tip, as long as there's no solid proof or confirmation it should not be here.
--MrJacky (talk) 16:34, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Partial agree. Private servers are a huge part of the GunZ gaming scene and should be mentioned in the article. However, I agree with you that they should not be named or linked to. Esper rant 02:21, 4 December 2008 (UTC)
Hacks
[edit]Wikipedia is NOT a place to introduce hacks. We don't need people to add the different hacks here.
If you want to talk about this, speak about the anti-hack system and the hacking situation.

Wikia
[edit]I propose adding the following to the External Links:
- Wikia has a wiki on this subject at the GunZ Wikia
Backup: Other articles, such as The World Ends with You and The Muppets, have links to their respective Wikia projects. If there's a store of information to be viewed, why should it be withheld? Also, as many Wikia links have been added to numerous Wikipedia articles in general, this would be nothing new. Please state your approval or disapproval and share your reasoning. If there are no serious objections in 3 days, I will add the link and refer back to this discussion topic. Cheers, Aaron ► 07:32, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, it looks like the three days have expired with no objections. If there are any questions regarding this link in the future, please post them here. Aaron ► 07:50, 1 February 2009 (UTC)

"Official"
[edit]User:75.154.186.241 recently took up the opportunity to add in a link to "Gunz Wiki (Official)". It was deleted by XLinkBot, but I'd like to take the opportunity to remind you that if something's not official, it's probably not a good idea to say it is. You can get in trouble like that. And it helps if you don't use a site that says "Create a free website about anything you love!" on its homepage, or if the link in question isn't named "GunZ The Duel Fan Wiki". Also, no doubt you saw the huge warning message telling you not to add anymore links without first discussing it here. Thanks, Aaron ► 18:06, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
- Readded on the grounds that Ijji considers it an official Wiki, listed on the main page as "Official" and even has an announcment. Any deletion will result in being reported. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.177.216.212 (talk) 03:58, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
Consider referring to the general guideline on external links (WP:EL) and the videogames wikiproject guidelines (WP:VG/EL). In particular:
- External links should be kept to a minimum.
- Links to open wikis should normally be avoided.
As such I suggest removing the Wikia link. Marasmusine (talk) 16:19, 28 July 2009 (UTC)
- And yet many VG articles include links to their respect Wikias. Halo (series), The Legend of Zelda (series), and Final Fantasy, to name a few. Aar ► 05:22, 14 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, okay, if the concensus is that this particular wikia has "a substantial history of stability and a substantial number of editors" (WP:EL) then this should be okay. Its local list users has 48 members and 5 admins. The stats show 7 active users. Stability looks okay: the admins are on top of vandalism/spam issues. Marasmusine (talk) 09:05, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

The Duel by Level Up! on Brazil not official?
[edit]http://games.levelupgames.com.br/TheDuel/
Why there is no mention of this "version" in the article, other than level up being mentioned in the infobox thing? --TiagoTiago (talk) 08:41, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
- Perhaps because of a lack of reliable, independent verification? Marasmusine (talk) 13:22, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
Made an article about this. Game was released in late 2011 in Korea, and an English release is in development as a free release on STEAM. Please help build that article. Ranze (talk) 07:02, 9 May 2013 (UTC)
Mods (user-generated contents)/ Pserver and more information about K-style should be added.
[edit]Refer to ragezone dot com about the modding part. And about K-style: Need mentioning advanced K-style and Latedash K-style (basically use the same steps as advanced K-style but different timing to make different cancelling (bug) happens). In addition to that, user-generated moves not only consist of K-style but also exploits on peer to peer system (in Ninja step where the in-game screenshot button create a short lag time but not disconnecting the character from the game server, in the lag period, the character moves in the direction it previously moved before the lag happens. Thus making the character move farther to reach some strange in-game position) or the exploit in which the system doesn't accept 2 objects in the same position, by using the lag between different computers, player can push another player to the upper boundary of the map (search for youtube vids for those) Squall282 (talk) 12:04, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- So, there's a few problems with what you want to add. First of all, what is the notability of ragezone? Can you find reliable sources to back up its notability? Can you find reliable sources to back up the notability of the mods? The problem with adding K-style is that there aren't enough sources that establish its notability. Are you catching the recurring theme yet? Information on Wikipedia must be backed by reliable sources, otherwise that information can be challenged/removed.
- The exploits, the Ninja-step, the screenshot lag, etc. - those fall under the context that Wikipedia is not a game guide. Video game articles on Wikipedia exist to inform readers about the subject itself - the production, story, reception, etc.; not how many different variants of K-style there are. And, again, there aren't any reliable sources to find on those topics either. YouTube videos are also not considered reliable sources. I understand that you're new here, but you need to understand that Wikipedia is not like one of those random fan Wikia's where you can just throw whatever information you find onto it. Antoshi ☏ ★ 12:32, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
- Because I don't know where to start (as I am not a long-time member of the Ijji or other big community) so I just ask someone else to write it and write something I know to help. Also, basically like what I wrote, it is by no mean a game guide but some facts to support the exploit part of the game. About ragezone, iirc, some of the user-generated item sets there were made official with his name written in its description (in-game).
- Refer to development part and gameplay part in Counter-Strike article, I see there no such thing as source, about VAC, even a doc without any organization backing was used as source, it is, imo, general "experience" of a gamer in the most neutral way possible. So, I think we should do it here too, if the K-style already a fact, it should be able to withstand any challenge. Squall282 (talk) 16:17, 14 March 2014 (UTC)
GunZ available
[edit]Why is the article referred to GunZ in the past? GunZ is still played by many people. There's still one surviving official GunZ (opened since January 2012) which is the version in Spanish (available in Portuguese too) called GunZ Ultra (http://gunz.kaybo1.com/) developed in Peru and sponsored by Kaybo (premium money is "K-coin"). It says it's "the only official server in Latin America" but it can be played in any country. --†_JuanPa_† (talk) 23:55, 6 December 2014 (UTC)

No more spinning stories about Masangsoft partnerships
[edit]Everybody in the GunZ community knows that Masangsoft owns the rights to GunZ: The Duel and has been sitting like ducks on the IP for years. They are not affiliated with any private communities and have no plans to do so.
Despite this, there are actors in this community attempting to write themselves into history. The recent addition of the fake "Gosu Games Inc." is one such example.
Going forward, anyone attempting to claim that their community has been officially partnered with Masangsoft needs to cite 1st-party information to back up their claim. This means the source should come directly from Masangsoft's own website. Links to 3rd-party social platforms or news websites, official account name or not, do not count.
Failure to cooperate will result an immediate report for edit-warring. Stache Potassium (talk) 07:51, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
- Additionally, any claims that Masangsoft's takeover of MAIET games was somehow fraudulent or malicious are quite bold given the number of years Masangsoft has held, and renewed, their trademark for. Such bold claims should be brought forward with equally bold proof.
- Citing a freshly filed copyright that has not passed, one that has been abandoned or one that is currently in dispute with Masangsoft's own should not be considered enough. The evidence needs to be damning.
- Here are the official United States Patent and Trademark Office pages for the GunZ: The Duel:
- https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=77013203&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
- Note the following...
- - The "Application Filing Date"(s) are from 2005 and 2006 respectively
- - "Masangsoft" is listed under the "Current Owner(s) Information" sections of both pages
- - The "Prosecution History" sections outline the creation, transfer and renewal of these trademarks throughout the years
- If we compare the above pages to the following examples, some notable differences should become clear:
- https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=98324060&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch
- Note the following...
- - Both were created very recently, roughly 10 months ago
- - Both were registered to "Gosu Games Inc."
- - Both are merely in the "Application" stage and have not been fully registered
- - On August 20th 2024, just one month ago, both of these cases began being used to dispute Masangsoft's own cases
- - For clarity, "Gosu" isn't anything special, it's literally the name of a server administrator in the GunZ private server community, hardly official
- In summary, a quick search for "gunz the duel" on the USPTO's trademark search will list the Masangsoft cases as the only ones that are both live and registered. All others have all been rejected, cancelled, abandoned or are still pending registration.
- Based on the above, it should go without saying that Masangsoft does indeed own the rights to GunZ: The Duel and anyone wishing to claim otherwise needs to provide solid proof. Stache Potassium (talk) 08:14, 5 September 2024 (UTC)
- You kept out the part where Masangsoft claimed TRADEMARK in the US region and falsely claimed ownewrship over the Reddit and the very same server you're talking about.
- If you're going to generate a narrative let it be a truthful one, because so far there's 50+ other people who have a different story to tell than the ones trying to rewrite history.
- Your posts will be constantly deleted until you guys learn to do your research and stop posting false accusations and using incorrect terminology for legal matters you guys have no experience with. TheTruthWillBeTold42 (talk) 22:58, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
- Based on your reply I'm going to assume you merely glanced at the information before posting. This is unfortunate, but I'll summarize.
- Yes, ownership of the trademark was transferred from MAIET to Masangsoft. The trademark's Persecution History and Vennister's own work history along with statements on MAIET's company website and statement's from Masangsoft's staff on Steam community pages coincide with the transfer of ownership around the same dates, between 2014-2015. Anyone who says otherwise is going to need a really good explanation to refute those accounts.
- Since you haven't come forward with anything new then once again, I remind anyone reading this talk thread, if you believe MAIET's dissolve into Masangsoft was somehow fraudulent or malicious then you are welcome to come forward with solid proof of your case. Stache Potassium (talk) 09:52, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- You're basing this off of them making an announcement on Steam over 10 years ago, there was never an official announcement or copyright hand over from Venister, you're outright lying. TheTruthWillBeTold42 (talk) 12:54, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- Once again, I'm going to assume you didn't read my post since your reply ignores the majority of it. Allow me to summarize for the second time.
- The following records paint a clear picture of MAIET's dissolve into Masangsoft.
- 1) The trademark's persecution history
- 2) Vennister's own account of his work history
- 3) A shutdown notice written on MAIET's own website
- 4) Announcements from Masangsoft's staff in their Steam community
- As you can see, there are more things involved than just Masangsoft's company change announcement. If you believe Masangsoft was somehow fraudulent or malicious then you are welcome to back up your claim with solid proof.
- Until then, please consider WP:AGF. Don't bother with the banter if you're just going to accuse me of lying without offering anything constructive. Stache Potassium (talk) 05:58, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
