In 1818, South Carolina re-elected two Congressmen – Eldred Simkins and Starling Tucker.[1] In the Charleston district, voters elected Charles Pinckney, a Founding Father of the United States who defeated Daniel Elliott Huger with a majority of 307 votes.[1][2]
The elections took place on October 12–13, 1818.[citation needed]
