"Songs in the style of" phenomenon

Is there any article which mention phenomenon "songs in the style of"? For example, songs with "Alan Walker Style" in place of artist name. Eurohunter (talk) 18:50, 1 May 2024 (UTC)

Set of TRAGICALLY HIP SONGS, alphabetized.

I just noticed a few gaps here that might easily be amended:

Category:The_Tragically_Hip_songs

Missing are a song beginning with "O", songs "On the Verge" and "One Night in Copenhagen" are o(bvious,missions,ff_the top_of_this_end_user's_head). Also, if classed as bibliographies circa the Dewey Decimal System then "Werewithal, The" begins the W class in absentia. If non admissible then "When the Weight Comes Down" doesn't require any concessions. Both on the Album "Up To Here" but that doesn't count for U as it is an album. For the U, "Use it Up" suffices nicely. Y="Yer Not The Ocean", fellas and I rest my contribution with my failure to think of Tragically Hip Songs beginning with J, Q, X, Z. They should be made "The"s × 4 when playing Tragically Hip Scrabble, for keeps.

I fully admit I don't understand entirely what you're saying, but let me try and respond with what I can. For one, none of the songs you mention have existing articles or even redirects, which they would need to be added to this or any categories. Categories are navigational tools, so they won't necessarily contain every single possible entry because not all of those would actually be useful for navigational purposes. As far as I'm aware, there are no rules against creating redirects for all these songs and adding them to this category, but there's probably not much point in doing it anyway. And if your concern is with alphabetization, I believe WP:SORTKEY would help explain our methodology in that regard. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 09:03, 27 May 2024 (UTC)

How are you? I don't like to sound nosy or anything, but how did Psy's single Gangnam Style have its eponymous category, unlike the rest of the singles? If I am not mistaken. Would you like to explain in simple terms? Just curious.

Because there are multiple associated articles which have been placed in it, and clearly some editor thought it would be helpful to be able to navigate between those articles. Not very many songs get eponymous categories (you can see them all in Category:Wikipedia categories named after musical compositions), but it makes sense to me why this one would. Disambiguating song artist categories

For the songs of Feeder (band) we have Category:Feeder songs but for the songs of Reef (band) we have Category:Reef (band) songs. These can't both be correct - should we disambiguate or not? I have seen other categories disambiguated in this way but I don't know if it is necessary. --Jameboy (talk) 09:02, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

|album= parameter

When exactly to and not to include |album= parameter in infoboxes for songs? I have read what Template:Infobox song#album says, but that doesn't clarify much. How exactly do we decide whether a song is from that album or not? (i mean, of course, if it's in the track listing, we'll mention it was later included in that album, but what about using the parameter itself?) Do we rely on announcements, trailers, or any mentions by the artist/label? Though the discussion doesn't exactly start with this, a little more context is present here. Thank you. "Credits and personnel" or "Personnel"?

Which one is the most appropriate? Besides, should we include songwriting credits? I've seen that some articles do include them in this section, while others don't. Additionally, do we type the artists' real or stage names? Jvaspad (talk) 19:20, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

"Credits and personnel" seems redundant to me; I would pick one or the other, but never use both.

Songwriting credits make more sense in the track listing section to me, especially when organized by {{track listing}}, so I wouldn't bother repeating them in both sections.

I would think which name to use would be decided by what's used in the liner notes, and if for some reason that isn't enough default to whichever is the common name. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 20:14, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

Sales certifications on first release

The current practice of using BPI sales and streaming data for certification means that the information is almost meaningless. In the days of paper sources, a song might be highlighted as having achieved certification as a result of sales associated with a successful chart run. While it is of some interest that songs may achieve certification long afterwards, it's not the same as doing so at the time, and any understanding of cultural impact and the artist's career will be misled if, for example, 30 years later a notorious flop is used in an advert and shows on here as a gold record even though its commercial failure led to the band breaking up. I think it would be better if we showed both historic certifications and current ones. Martinlc (talk) 14:28, 30 August 2024 (UTC)

@Martinlc: How would you like to distinguish historic certifications and current ones? Certifications given 30 years ago or 3 days ago are both historic. I know what you mean, but how would you like to distinguish it? 1, 5, 10, 25 or 30 years and why 25 not just 5 or why not 30 years. What you're describing sounds like it would be easily solved by including all that information in prose and including the date of certification in the cert table.
