Source for Logical Investigations

[edit]

Hello, I am looking for Dieter Münch's article "The Early Work of Husserl and Artificial Intelligence", which was published in the Journal of the British Society for Phenomenology Vol 21, No 2, May 1990, Pages 107-120. DOI is 10.1080/00071773.1990.11006889. The article would be helpful for use at Logical Investigations (Husserl). There is a link to an extract here. Normally, that would be enough to get something substantial into the article. But in this case, this is the most up-to-date and thorough review of the current state of the field. I feel I really need to get fully to grips with what it has to say, and the significance or otherwise of recent developments. Not least because the draft article, based on another source, currently says "As of 2008, there has been no further significant advance in synthesising rational functions". Really need to bottom out whether or not that still applies in 2018. SpinningSpark 20:57, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: Title may be "Tribute To Peary Rader". No WorldCat library holds that issue, so it's extremely unlikely that any of us will be able to fill your request. The issue can be ordered from the publisher here. There may be a minimum dollar order. If you don't want to keep the order after your research is done, there's a secondary market on eBay, or you could donate to Harvard to make their sparse collection more complete. --Worldbruce (talk) 19:19, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: I'm not sure what the "5" in your citation stands for (page number?). Notre Dame special collections implies that the April 1955 issue would be volume 4 issue 3. They don't have it, nor does any other WorldCat library. Unless a volunteer here happens to have a garage full of 1950s body building magazines, I don't think there's any hope of the resource exchange supplying this. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:34, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation on unconfirmed episode of Chronicle (UK TV programme)

[edit]

{{stale}} Am trying to fill episode gaps on Chronicle (UK TV programme). Can anyone confirm if the 21 June 1969 program "The Gilstone Treasure" was a Chronicle episode, or if not (ideally) identify which is the unidentified episode between #3 and #99. Possibilities for verification:

  • the actual episode. The BBC website doesn't appear to be any help, but https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/ has either the programme or B-roll footage (the latter is probably not useful).
  • the Radio Times for June 19, 1969. Vol 183. number 2380 — in case the OCRed listing has omitted something or if there happened to be a feature story.
  • a (p)review of the episode in another TV guide/newspaper.

Thanks, ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 09:50, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hydronium Hydroxide. From the Google Books snippet view it looks like the Radio Times just had the article title. Luckily someone has posted some images of this issue of the Radio Times on Twitter. The second image shows it as a "pick of the week" and describes it as a "notable repeat", so perhaps not the thing you are looking for? If someone has a newspapers.com subscription, the same programme seems to have been broadcast in Australia on September 19, 1971; see this guide in the Sydney Morning Herald again doesn't seem to be more than a line of text there though - Dumelow (talk) 23:36, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Hydronium Hydroxide: i got access to the newpapers.com article. At 3.40 it says The Gilstone Treasure - Sicily Isles It ran from 3.40 to 4.30. I don't think it's what you're looking for as there's no mention of Chronicle. But: on 21 June 1969 page 2 of The Guardian, The Gilstone Treasure is mentioned but no mention of the Chronicle. It says 9 5 The Gilstone Treasure: underwater adventure (C). I've a feeling there is no episode from that date as there is a mention of Chronicle on may 24th and july 19th, nothing in between. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:31, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Dumelow and MrLinkinPark333: Thanks both. I missed that the June one was a repeat of a 9 Jan 69 programme of the same name also with no indications it's part of the Chronicle series (although Chronicle covered the subject in an earlier segment). I've struck most of the question as answered, and the broader question looks unlikely to be easily answered without something like a BBC production schedule or similar, so may well end up archived without further leads. ~Hydronium~Hydroxide~(Talk)~ 05:35, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Grove's Dictionary of Music / biographical details of August Frederick Ferdinand Hyllested

[edit]

{{resolved}}

  • Grove's Dictionary of Music.

For a potential article on Swedish-born Danish pianist August Frederick Ferdinand Hyllested, born 1858, I'd like to find someone with access to Grove's Dictionary of Music. There was an article on him in Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians (Supplement, 1922, vol VI), when he was apparently still living. I would like to locate an article in subsequent editions of Grove's that gives a death date?

Thanks, Nunh-huh 19:19, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the online grove site and didn't see a bio there. I assume you've already seen the Brainard and Howe & Mathews bios of Hyllested? The Brainard book says Hyllested died on April 5, 1946. Cheers, gnu57 00:18, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I had not seen Brainard, and thank you very much for finding it. I suspect he's been dropped from the current Groves, but had hoped that perhaps he had figured in some intervening editions. - Nunh-huh 01:34, 20 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nunh-huh: I checked at a local library, and can confirm that the 1954 edition of Grove (OCLC 6085892) includes Hyllested and corroborates that death date. He also shows up in the concise edition of Baker/Slonimsky (OCLC 28710250); presumably the full-length version has him as well. Unfortunately, I couldn't make any scans today; I'll try again in a week or two, if no one else has fulfilled your request by then. Cheers, gnu57 16:25, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for looking (and finding!). It would be terrific if you could do the scans. I'm trying to get more information about his compositions but he's one of those figures that seems to have just disappeared after his death. - Nunh-huh 17:04, 21 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
gnu - Worldbruce has gotten the 1954 Grove's for me, so no need for you to scan that, though if Baker/Slonimsky has useful information I'd still be interested in that. - Nunh-huh 05:10, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nunh-huh: email me for Grove's 1954 ed. --Worldbruce (talk) 03:08, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nunh-huh: sent Grove's. --Worldbruce (talk) 03:22, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nunh-huh: sent Baker's. --Worldbruce (talk) 05:23, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks to you, Worldbruce, and all who have helped. I'm going to mark this resolved, but if I do it wrong, anyone who knows the right way should feel free to fix it!.-Nunh-huh 08:06, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: I do not have access to the issues of Antiquity in which #4 and #7 appear. Based on the journal, article titles, authors, and abstract / list of references, I think it very unlikely that they would contain useful information for a Wikipedia article about the well-known volcano Huaynaputina. If you're still saying you need the whole articles, I think people are going to need a convincing explanation of why sending that much material unrelated to the topic you're working on is not a violation of the fair use provision of copyright. --Worldbruce (talk) 05:12, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Bruce1ee, that's most helpful, and allowed me to verify that, as I suspected, neither has any mention of the "Spanish Barb". However, I'm concerned that those articles may be copyright violations, and that for that reason we should not link to them. The second one, for example, is clearly marked "© The American Genetic Association. 2005. All rights reserved." and is annotated "Downloaded from http://jhered.oxfordjournals.org/ by guest on August 31, 2012". I can't see any release of permission that would allow us to link to it. Thoughts, anyone? Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 11:53, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Justlettersandnumbers: BTW, the second paper is available for free via the doi link you provided above. Regarding the issue of possible copyright violations by sites like ResearchGate, I'm not in a position to answer that. Perhaps this should be raised on the RX talk page. —Bruce1eetalk 12:03, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
How absurd – try and fail to get access through a research database, then find it's anyway freely available! Yes, I'll start that discussion; by the way, Bruce1ee, there's no criticism of you either expressed or implied in what I'v written above, you've been most helpful. Many thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 12:18, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding copyright, it's somewhat complicated. In some cases the person uploading is an author and thus has the copyright, in some cases there is some kind of agreement between a publisher and RG. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:13, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Justlettersandnumbers: If you have received what you requested, could you mark this {{resolved}}. If there are still things to say about best practices and linking to ResearchGate, it feels like that discussion should be moved to the talk page rather than taking place on the transactional please-send-me-X page, where volunteers can't tell if you still need something without parsing the back and forth that follows your request. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:33, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk, contributions) 16:08, 7 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jo-Jo Eumerus: I will not send the entire paper because the only relevant content is two sentences:
"When the Norse settlers arrived in Greenland around 980 AD, climatic conditions were relatively mild (Mediaeval Warm Period c. 800–1300 AD). Around 1350, however, settlements degraded. One possible explanation is the deterioration of the climate at the onset of the Little Ice Age (Ribeiro et al. 2012), possibly in combination with long-lasting reduced solar radiation due to large volcanic activity (Hammer et al. 1980; Oppenheimer 2003; Sigl et al. 2015)."
The three sources cited for large volcanic activity are:
  • Hammer CU, Clausen HB, Dansgaard W (1980) Greenland ice sheet evidence of post-glacial volcanism and its climatic impact. Nature 288(5788):230–235
  • Oppenheimer C (2003) Ice core and palaeoclimatic evidence for the timing and nature of the great mid-13th century volcanic eruption. Int J Climatol 23:417–426
  • Sigl M et al (2015) Timing and climate forcing of volcanic eruptions for the past 2,500 years. Nature 523:543–549. https://doi.org/10.1038/nature14565

Page from a 1968 automobile memorabilia book

[edit]

For Red flag traffic laws. I'd like to confirm whether this book from 1968 contains the quote attributed to it in this other book from 2018,

upon chance encounters with cattle or livestock to [1] immediately stop the vehicle, [2] immediately and as rapidly as possible disassemble the automobile, and [3] conceal the various components out of sight behind nearby bushes until equestrian or livestock is sufficiently pacified.

(The google snippet view doesn't return anything for "equestrian" or "pacified", but there's apparently something about the red flag law on that page; I'd like fuller confirmation that the quote isn't there.) Cheers, gnu57 02:15, 28 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Genericusername57: The actual text in Karolevitz's 1968 book is:

Some of the earliest proposals to regulate automobiles were-like the British Red Flag Law-inane and impractical ... The Farmers' Anti-Automobile Society of Pennsylvania demanded that "if a horse is unwilling to pass an automobile, the driver should take the machine apart as rapidly as possible and conceal the parts in the bushes."

Let me know if you'd like me to send you a copy of the page. --Worldbruce (talk) 04:55, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Worldbruce: Thank you very much. Yes, please do send me a copy of the page—I'd like to work out where Karolevitz got that quote from. (Or if he uses endnotes or something, please send the corresponding footnotes). Cheers, gnu57 15:55, 8 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Russian palaeontology paper

[edit]

{{resolved}} I am unable to find the following paper from a Russian journal:

Tatarinov, L. P. A postcranial skeleton of the gorgonopian Viatkogorgon ivachnenkoi (Reptilia, Theriodontia) from the Upper Permian Kotelnich locality, Kirov Region. Paleontologicheskii Zhurnal – 2004. – (4): 84–94

To expand the Viatkogorgon article. Apparently the journal is "discontinued".[28]

This paper seemingly from the same journal could also be helpful:[29]

 Doing... (tomorrow or Monday), — Pajz (talk) 10:28, 28 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

FunkMonk, sent. Note that the information in the request is inconsistent. There is an original Russian version of the journal (with titles in Russian) and there is an English translated version (which is the one referred to in your link). I've sent a copy from the latter. — Pajz (talk) 19:29, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! Not sure if the second article linked[30] is important, but might be good to have, since the subject is mentioned in it (from what I could gather at Google Scholar). FunkMonk (talk) 21:50, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

And from reading the paper you sent me, it seems I also need the following paper, as that is where the taxon was named:

*New Theriodonts (Reptilia) from the Late Permian Fauna of the Kotelnich Locality, Kirov Region Paleontological Journal 33(5):550-556 · January 1999 [31] FunkMonk (talk) 22:26, 4 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@FunkMonk: sent New Theriodonts (Reptilia) ... --Worldbruce (talk) 20:31, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Still one to go, so to make it clearer, I've spelled it out below (seems to be same journal as above). FunkMonk (talk) 20:41, 19 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how this is gonna work, sorry! But this book (OCLC 65022-8111) is in two volumes, and I don't know where what I want is in either of them  :) any chance of contents or index pages (the latter need only cover "Vale Royal"). Worldcat.

Hope something can be done; but I am being rather vague I know. Sorry about that! ——SerialNumber54129 16:41, 22 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Serial Number 54129, do you need the index pages related to Vale Royal or the pages related to Vale Royal? In the meantime, I've placed a hold on the two (actually, there also seems to be another Middle-ages related volume, titled "Plans"). — Pajz (talk) 18:32, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pajz: Thanks for looking into this. Whatever's easiest for you, I guess—what I was going to do was get the index to both volumes and then ask for the pages that mentioned VR. But what do you think? ——SerialNumber54129 18:37, 2 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Serial Number 54129, also, you made a request here (now here) on March 17 for "D. Knoop & G. P. Jones, 'The First Three Years of the Building of Vale Royal Abbey, 1278–1280', Ars Quatour Coronatorum [sic; correct title: "Ars Quatuor Coronatorum", --pajz] ( Transactions of the Quatour [sic] Coronati Lodge) 44 (1931), 5—47.", which I saw late but then requested to the reading room. I subsequently received the two volumes you may have referred to (42.1931 and 44.1933), but at that time couldn't find a related request here anymore, so didn't know what to do with them ... (The volumes have since been returned.) I now had a chance to look into this and noticed that this originated in said request of yours, which got archived after you marked it as resolved, even though it doesn't look like you've ever received the requested article. So: Is is resolved? — Pajz (talk) 16:56, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pajz: No problem, I found it on ebay quite cheaply in the end, so let it get archived. Thanks for going to the effort though; I'd forgotten about that. ——SerialNumber54129 17:47, 10 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am looking for the text of the review of Simon LeVay's Human Sexuality by William Byne that appeared in JAMA in 2003 (it should not be confused with a later review of another edition of the book that appeared in JAMA in 2006). Publication details: 8/20/2003, Vol. 290 Issue 7, p962-963. 2p. The ISSN is 0098-7484 and the Accession Number is 10612846. Note that EBSCO provides only a listing of the review, not its actual text. I want it for use on Human Sexuality (book).

Thanks, FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 11:12, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here's a (paywalled) link to that review: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/197098. The doi given, doi:10.1001/jama.290.7.962-a, is incorrect; changing it to -b won't work either. You could perhaps request the text from the reviewer, William Byne, through researchgate: [40]. Cheers, gnu57 12:13, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello everyone! I would like to nominate the "A Nice Day for a Posh Wedding" article as my next FAC. I would like access to the above article (accessed through this link) to add to the page. The article was taken from Volume 77, 2013 - Issue 1 of the Western Journal of Communication journal. It was written by Stacey K. Sowards and Richard D. Pineda and published on January 11, 2013. Thank you in advance! Aoba47 (talk) 19:47, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Need insect decline data sets

[edit]

I need the data sets supposedly available at [42] for the graphs shown in figures 1A and 1B only, on page 402 of [43]. As you can see, I don't need the document which is at that last link, just its supplemental data sets for those two graphs.

Instead of emailing it can you please paste it into, say, User:EllenCT/Insect data? The raw data is not subject to copyright in the US, because of Feist Publications, Inc., v. Rural Telephone Service Co.

This is to create unencumbered graphs for Insect and Decline in insect populations.

Thanks, EllenCT (talk) 05:27, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

EllenCT, I'm not comfortable that this material is copyright-free under Feist, but if you email me I'll forward it to you. John M Baker (talk) 16:10, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@John M Baker: thank you. I disconnected my email years ago, for what were then immediate privacy-related reasons unrelated to anything on-wiki, but are no longer looming specific concerns. However, if there is an acceptable alternative I would like to avoid email. Can you put a password protected zip file on a server such as Google Drive temporarily, for example? EllenCT (talk) 19:13, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
EllenCT, I'll see what I can do along those lines. You can still email me, right? Email me a password of your choice. I'll post here when the material is up. John M Baker (talk) 14:56, 4 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
EllenCT, what's the progress? I dislike the board to contain easily-resolvable threads for long spans of time courtesy a bunch of dubious issues. Does this satisfy your query? WBGconverse 19:01, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Winged Blades of Godric: thank you so much for finding that, and I'm sure it was the document I was looking for, but, sadly, it has data on all the charts and graphs in the paper except for the one I wanted. Blaregh! Thanks again, anyway. EllenCT (talk) 06:25, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
EllenCT, sorry to hear of that:-( Can I mark this as resolved? WBGconverse 06:26, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Taylor & Francis chapter

[edit]

Hi, I'm looking for this 6-page chapter from Taylor & Francis to create Mickey au Camp de Gurs:

  • Weiner, Robert G. (December 2010). "Chapter 39: Sequential Art Narrative and the Holocaust". In Friedman, Jonathan C. (ed.). The Routledge History of the Holocaust. London: Routledge. pp. 484–489. ISBN 978-1136870606. {{cite book}}: External link in |chapterurl= (help); Unknown parameter |chapterurl= ignored (|chapter-url= suggested) (help)

Here is the book's table of contents. I can see part of the chapter in this Google Book preview, but not all 6 pages.

The Source

[edit]

Hello everyone! I would greatly appreciate access to the following source: here. It is an article from The Source entitled "Amil All Money is Legal" on page 138. According to Google Books, it was released in 2000 as part of an issue between Issues 128-131. Apologies if this cannot be accessed, but it would be helpful for the All Money Is Legal article. Thank you in advance and have a wonderful rest of your day and/or night! Aoba47 (talk) 16:26, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Here is a paywalled link to the article at the Open Music Library: https://openmusiclibrary.org/article/807108/ An Open Music Library account is needed (which is free), plus a ProQuest account (which I don't have). —Bruce1eetalk 17:29, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Aoba47, MrLinkinPark333, and BU Rob13: I've finally got myself ProQuest access, but unfortunately all it has is the article citation, not the full text. So ProQuest won't help for this request, I'm afraid. —Bruce1eetalk 09:11, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies for all of the trouble. I was able to work out a way to access more of the limited Google Books preview by looking up certain sentences from the source so I would see more of the article. I think that I am able to see everything that I need for the article so it should be fine. Thank you for the messages! Aoba47 (talk) 15:30, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No trouble at all. I'm marking this request as resolved. If you would like it to stay open for longer in case someone does find the article, just remove the resolved tag. —Bruce1eetalk 15:41, 16 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm trying to work on the Fate/stay night visual novel and its characters, most notably the recent GA Shirou Emiya? While I think there are enough sources for the characters due to the animated adaptations, there is little about their original visual novel version which have also been explored by professor from another university while building up the articles.
